????? new ep was lowkey sexist. they pulled a huge double standard with how they treated meghan, calling her stupid/dumb, not even treating her as a person but more an accessory of the prince…and then the prince got a redemption arc. come on like that was pretty nasty no…and this is coming from someone who loves kyle focused eps. first ep of the season wasnt too bad tho. lets hope for more of that

i get ur perspective but honestly ive never thought to view south park thru a sexism lense or to try to condemn them for it. its satire of female and male celebrities is equally scathing, the men are depicted as similarly vapid and irritating. i don't think sp's history of mocking women is particularly targeted and nasty. as i said in my other post (which you sent me an additional anon about so i kno u read it), sp is about exaggerating things, not always accurately, to make a point. and sometimes that means portraying capable and normal women as, what, mid-00s MTV-type party girls? and sure, that's one of the many features of sp that's technically 'problematic', and the reason so many ppl have 'sp fans dni' on their blogs - but we're here, aren't we, watching this bastard show and trying to juggle watching it critically and enjoying the stupidity?

i dunno, im neutral towards meghan & harry, if anything i respect them, but i very rarely have actual firm opinions on the shit matt & trey choose to make fun of, and this was a situation where it was just their usual shitting all over their celebs of choice who i personally have very little opinion on, and i thought that what they were trying to say in the episode was good. sp's only ever been abt making an individual or group represent something, and then using it all as a way to bitch about a genre of prevalent stupidity. that's what this ep did. was it at the expense of a woc? yeah, and usually that'd be immediately condemnable, but matt and trey have pretty firmly made it clear they're in the "we can find stupidity ANYWHERE" libertarian boat. i have enough respect for them as satire-oriented comedy writers to believe that they're sufficiently capable of lacking bias or prejudice in who they mock, for the most part at least, and that's why i can't condemn them for it specifically. though i know that's very subjective, as im aware that lots of people don't think satire is clever and it's just thinly veiled bigotry. but i'd assume the majority of sp fans who actually care about the satirical plots would be attuned to where matt & trey are coming from.

im disliking the way im seeing south park fans on tumblr perceive episodes lately. people forget that it's a satirical show, and it goes so thoroughly over their heads. but ig thats what happens when smth develops a tumblr-type fanbase, and in this case it's at the expense of critical readings of a sometimes rather insightful show. but i digress. i rlly did think the first ep was terrible. this one at least had smth to say.

(update, as of 3/3: the most recent ep came out the other day and it was a tad boring but very much, again, fairly well-done satire. i didnt even check how ppl reacted to it tho, im not rlly caring lately tbh)

Ah. A newcomer.

So here’s the thing, babe - I’ve already answered this same question before (though I can’t find the stupid ask for the life of me) and thus I’ve already explained my reasoning as to why it’s Emmett and not Mr. Single Star on my Collar Confederate that is the die-hard fan of the Country Queen. But because this is the LAST time I want to have to say this, I’ll go ahead and reiterate myself.

For reference to anyone reading this, Anon is referring to my current blog title (”emmett’s a dolly stan”).

I gotta lot of things to say about this so bear with me, it's gonna be a whole - actually, scratch that, multiple bullet lists. We’ll start with Emmett.

First thing’s first, I made this moodboard

... and I made this post to go with it as a way to explain my reasoning.

As you can see from the post above and Emmett’s wiki, ya boy is from Gatlinburg, Tennessee! Good ole country boy who was just making a living to take care of his family!! Gotta love him. As you can also see from my post linked above, I mentioned that Dollyworld, Dolly Parton’s theme park that she had built to create jobs in that area, is located in Gatlinburg!!

Now, we know that Dollyworld wasn’t around in the ‘20s when Emmett was still human and living in the area, but (and yes, it is mentioned that he technically ~never looked back~ but that doesn’t matter because this is a headcanon) if you read the post above (how many times am I gonna repeat that phrase lol) I lay out why I think he would still have a soft spot for his hometown and, specifically, the music icon popular of that region, who is also from Tennessee herself!!

Other points worth mentioning: He’s from the back country, and because I think he’s a country boy, he would just enjoy some actually good country music. Srsly, how can one not like her music anyway???????

So to finish off this little bullet list.... Anon, do you not think Tennessee is in the South???? It is Or were you not aware of his Tennessean roots??? Not saying that to be mean, but ya know. Worth asking.

Now, onto Jasper.

As we have previously established, Jasper ain’t the only Southern gentleman in the Cullen Clan.

Here is where I delve into canon (or at least, what ik from canon). We know from his anecdote that he relayed to Bella in Eclipse about the newborn army he trained that once he got turned, he was really out of it in terms of keeping up with the human world. His world was just violence and pain and conquering until he left and met Alice. From what I interpreted, Jasper still hasn’t really kept up with human affairs. I mean, okay yeah, it says in the Guide that he has a degree in history, so he went to college and knows some things (which is really fucking ironic when you think about how he was so proud of being a major in the Confed army but anyways), but he seems to just check out when it come to like... pop culture, you know? Idk about y’all, but to me, he doesn’t really seem like someone who would care about all the different kinds of music out there, so it seems like a stretch to me that he would zoom in on Mrs. Parton. Maybe he does keep up, I haven’t really read Midnight Sun so maybe I’m wrong, but to me, it just doesn’t seem like he’d be into a particular artist. That may be because I just write him off as some boring and racist character so I don’t give enough shits to breathe any life into him fanon-wise, but hey, if y’all are into that, I ain’t stopping you.

I think the reason that ppl tend to get confused about this is that Jasper had the opportunity to relegate his backstory for plot driven reasons, and Emmett didn’t. Jasper talking about his human life really cemented in the minds of readers that he is From The South, but if Emmett somehow got to talk about anything beyond getting mauled by a grizzly (another mistake on smeyer’s part - grizzlies are out West, not in Appalachia), I think readers would also associate him as being from the rural South too. But because his backstory is only really recounted in his wiki and The Guide, it’s not the most well-known aspect of his identity.

I feel like the majority of ppl that assume Jasper would be the one to like Dolly, and also just country music in general, is because they’re operating on the assumption that being from the South = good enough reasoning for a character to like country music, which can be kind of reductive but hey. And because fandom only thinks it’s Jasper who’s Southern and they skip over Emmett and Alice (I will give credit where credit is due - I know there was someone on here who made a country music playlist based off of those three’s Southern origins, but I can’t remember who it was unfortunately), he tends to get assigned those headcanons. Ig he does retain that Texan style a bit so it wouldn’t be a huge stretch if he liked country but anyways.

TLDR; To be blunt, it just makes more sense to me that the Tennessean whose hometown is literally where Dolly has her business would be a plausible Dolly Parton stan, not the aloof Texan who’d probably have some kind of vampiric seizure if he discovered that she supports BLM.

Not to mention that I’m not the only one who thinks this.

i feel like this was almost inevitable but idk where else to talk about resident evil village so i’m just going to rant about it here!!! i have,,,, a lot of thoughts on this game after being so excited for it for so long

obviously, massive spoilers if you haven’t finished the game. i feel like i have thoughts on pretty much everything so please please please stay clear of this post if you’re trying to stay blind

otherwise, let me just rant about this game for a bit - mainly the story and characters - because i have Thoughts™

(also i feel like it goes without saying but this will be probably be quite long, so. strap in, ig)

okay SO. the whole intro was pretty interesting - even though we’d seen bits of it in trailers, it was still pretty unnerving and felt like it came out of nowhere. but the first thing that really stood out was the first village section with the hordes of lycans; i didn’t expect this game to start freaking me out so quickly but JESUS my blood pressure went up fast.

there’s so many of them coming at you at once, and not only have you just lost half your damn hand, you’re not really used to the gunplay at that point AND you don’t have that many weapons at your disposal. so it’s basically just “hey we’re throwing you into this ring of death, good luck surviving!” which... now that i think about it, that really sums up the whole game lol

but for the most part, the early parts of the game are what we saw in the demos, so there’s nothing too new - it was nice getting to see the scene with all four lords and mother miranda, though. i wasn’t sure how the whole chase scene with the lycans would work - i thought heisenberg’s area was going to be some sort of mine, and that the chase would take place there - but it didn’t, and it was interesting regardless of it being so short.

but the castle. THE CASTLE.

i would be lying through my teeth if i said i wasn’t excited for dimitrescu like everybody else; i’m firmly in the camp of people who both meme about how attractive she is, and then also the people who legitimately find her attractive, soooo i kinda had high expectations going in?

and sure, the castle section is only part of the game, but if there’s anything that makes me nervous most, it’s stalker enemies. resi 2 remake was actually pretty tough for me to get through because of how anxiety-inducing mr x was, and even though i don’t feel like she was as present as mr x was, lady d was still great! there were a good few times where you could hear her walking around and you just knew she was searching for you, which was really damn cool.

also, i know capcom had a lot of hype to live up to with lady dimitrescu, but goddamn they did such a great job with her. she’s so imposing but badass and just... really damn cool? like i honestly found myself being excited for her to show up rather than being scared. i just think she’s neat! I MEAN LOOK AT HER.

(also yes i know the whole internet has talked about how attractive she is, but can we just. appreciate that for a second???? she’s gorgeous and yall can’t tell me otherwise. like. bro ik the pronunciation is wrong but the way she says dimitrescu made me GASP i love this powerful vampire woman)

if anything, though, i... actually felt really bad that her story ended up the way it did. i mean, think about it: you break into her house, kill the three people she’s grown to consider her daughters, rob her shit, and then kill her? she technically goes through the same kind of parental grief that ethan does, in a way, which is a really interesting parallel. grief seems to be a theme that capcom really pushed for this game, and it works.

also, her boss fight design is badass. she’s literally a dragon, how is that not incredible

so the castle was great, where could the game go from here? oh, i don’t know, how about gOOD OLD FASIONED FUCKING TRAUMA.

jesus christ the dollhouse GOT TO ME.

i’m pretty used to horror in general; i love horror games, movies, books, you name it. i’ve gone to horror movies where people have ran out because of fear all while i’ve sat there giggling the whole time. but the dollhouse? that dollhouse is FUCKED. i can’t remember the last time i watched someone play through a horror game and was so... on edge the whole time. the fact that they keep you waiting for so long with nothing happening just... makes the atmosphere incredibly uncomfortable, and then when shit does start going down, it goes down fast. in other words, jesus fucking christ that baby will haunt my nightmares until the end of time

basically capcom managed to make the n*zi baby joke from south park: the stick of truth legitimately terrifying, and i was glad to see donna die. moving on.

moreau’s section is the one i... actually don’t have as many thoughts on. it’s cool, sure, and the whole idea of him turning into a fish when he hits water is neat - it’s definitely a good callback to re4 - but idk, it didn’t really scare me that much. i can see it scaring those with a fear of water or the ocean, for sure, but eh. i thought the designs were cool, but i kinda tuned out a little here.

heisenberg, though, was anything but. the entire time leading up to village’s release, this guy has fascinated me for some reason. i don’t know if it’s because he’s the most normal-looking of the four lords, or the fact that he has telekinesis, or his amazing voice acting (seriously i know some people have shit on his VA but oh my god i adore it) or what, but this guy stood out to me from day one. i even went into the game expecting him not to die tbh. but no, he does, and his fight is pretty damn cool all things considered. only in a resident evil game could you have a mech fight and have it not feel out of place lol

also this line ^^^ legitimately made me laugh so hard i almost choked on my water. THE FACT HE TURNS AROUND AND APOLOGISES SO MEEKLY its fucking hilarious to me

but anyway.

similar to alcina, though, i was left with one big question about heisenberg - what did mother miranda do to him to get him to join her impromptu familly? he said himself to ethan that he didn’t want to join, so what did miranda do that didn’t give him a choice? did he have a family at some point? is he grieving too? what did miranda take from him? i can only hope this gets answered in the dlc, because it’s by far one of my biggest questions surrounding all of this. i may very well have missed it somewhere, and at least we know he has his telekinesis abilities thanks to miranda, but it’s a question that’ll definitely be on my mind going forward.

at this point, though, the story REALLY gets insane. it’s really nice how village decided to just continue on straight from what 7 did, and i’m very glad that everyone’s theories about chris being a werewolf were wrong - it’s a really nice spanner to throw in the works. if anything, the whole revelation of mother miranda disguising herself as mia the whole time since rose’s birth was really cool, and ethan being Mold™ the entire time was pretty neat too - it made a lot of things both in 7 and village make more sense.

what i’m still digesting, though, is the ending.

...man, capcom, you put poor ethan through all of that and then you have the balls to actually kill him? i mean shit, you made us think he was dead for a whole 20 minutes but then nope! he’s alive! but then nope! he’s dead again! i did see someone point out that at least ethan got to go out on his own terms, but dammit i would’ve at least liked for him to get to see mia one last time. i think it would’ve softened the blow a little more. but i guess that ties into the whole grief theming this game has going for it, and like i said, i probably just need some more time to digest it.

i don’t dislike the ending, it’s just a very big culture shock - it’s definitely a ballsy move, and i really respect capcom for going all out the way they did. they really held back on nothing in terms of this game’s story and i absolutely love it. it was so, so worth the wait in that regard.

and tbh that’s kinda how i feel about the whole game in general; it was super super good, very much worth the wait, and i absolutely cannot wait to see where resident evil goes from here. i have a gut feeling this’ll end up being one of my absolute favourites in the series, which i know is very high praise, but i really do love it that much. i wasn’t disappointed with much in this game, if anything at all. it’s just a super fucking good video game man idk what else to say at this point

Partners in Crime

There is something that I have realized after learning more about Pentatonix once I joined the fandom. They are all skilled singers who are all capable of singing as solo artists without any trouble. In comparison to most vocal groups who cannot perform individually. Even though this is technically true, there is a little something else. A certain two are best as a duo than solo. I’m sure you can guess who I mean. And if not......Scott and Mitch, people.

Strictly talking about their working relationship (can anyone get what I am referencing here?) they just work best together. I mean we already know they can sing, oh I mean SANG, but there’s an issue when they try to do things alone. Let’s break it down, shall we? Let’s start with Señor Noodle!

Our lovely blond eyebrow denied baritone is a beast on the mic. And is just BURSTING with creativity. I mean that overgrown child came up with the name Pentatonix of all things and it is clever and relates to music. As well as creating one of the most popular parts of the 2012-2015 tours, chair girls. It is such a Scott idea, isn’t it (another reference)? Yet here in lies the problem with him. He is SO creative but doesn’t know how to progress. He is all over the place (ex. the only TWO videos on SF where Scott is by himself, he literally has no idea what to do and jumps from topic to topic or just does something random and uninspired). Let’s go back in time for this break down.

For those who don’t know, Scott actually has TWO YouTube channels. One is Scott Hoying and the other (that we know) is scotthoying. The former is his first channel that he started when he was a freshman in high school. He barely uploaded on the page in the three years he used it. And the content was a little....uneven (?). There were music clips yet then there are videos where he is just goofing around. There was no set use for the channel. He abandoned it in 2010 (or more like forgot the password, I mean it is Scott we’re talking about). Then he created the one we are more familiar with. This was firmly dedicated to music. Even so, he didn’t have a format. He just uploaded covers and didn’t cement the kind of artist he wanted to be. This of course can be contributed to the fact that he was dealing with school at the time when he uploaded a bunch of covers. And then Pentatonix happened. Yet what about Vine?

He joined the site in March of 2013. Now it is apparent that he used it to boost interest in the band but also had a penchant for posting comedy content. This juxtaposition is jarring. He would go from making singing videos to posting random comedy bits in six seconds. For someone who is trying to make a brand, this uncertainty from viewers on what he was focusing on is difficult to follow. It seemed the only two common things that he had a constant focus on overall was his love of music and Mitch. (I may or may not have counted how many Vines that had Mitch in them or involved Mitch in some way, 47% of Scott’s Vines had Mitch in them). From there we can talk about Mitch’s end of this.

Our lovely unreal queen (of basically everything) is not just a singer but a force of nature. Sorry Scott but you are second best to her. Now Mitch kind of has the exact OPPOSITE deal compared to her other half. She doesn’t really put herself out there in terms of ideas or such. Now let’s get back in the time machine so I can explain better. Trust me I love this woman. But we need a few details before I get pitchforked. Back growing up, Mitch was insecure and uncomfortable singing. In the videos that we have of Mitch from high school (since any earlier seem to not exist anywhere, save for that stage performance where he was the water god) he basically regurgitated material and was also EXTREMELY low key about it and was never posted by himself. It was always by either a competition circuit or a friend. It was like Mitch was afraid of the reactions of others. Let’s continue onto Mitch’s Youtube.

Yeah, what Youtube? 1 video doesn’t not a channel make. Girl legit only uploaded ONE in November 2013 and nothing ever again. Mitch even addressed this in the 3 Year Channelversary episode saying that having a separate channel by himself would never work because he would never have the ideas or urge to upload regularly. The channel is just used to like videos every few weeks. Mitch didn’t have anything to showcase what she could do without the others. The closest we have to it is little IG/Snapchat videos of a few seconds. But nothing full out. The thing that Mitch suffers from is a lack of drive (or ambition if you will). Okay to the music careers!

So Scott is obviously someone in the R&B/Soul wheelhouse. Yet he doesn’t know how to stay on track to save his life (driving and getting sidetracked by a dog park, people). I honestly wonder if he has ADD. And I know it is not good to diagnose someone without expertise. Yet based off the way he acts, I’d say there is a real chance for it. I mean it is like his brain moves faster than his mouth (no filter) and he just can’t stay on topic. Based on this I don’t know how well he would do trying to get into that market as a solo artist. Being part giraffe with blond hair and blue eyes and a complexion to rival the bloodsuckers on Vampire Diaries, he sticks out with the demographic that kind of music leans to (African Americans). There are some individuals that are adverse to anyone trying to make it in that genre that isn’t African American, as well. He would be at a disadvantage or not taken seriously. Also he doesn’t know how to control himself and would be just a spastic noodle in interviews by himself. To contrast that cooked pasta is Mitch’s side of things.

She is into more of the EDM/Techno scene. And the otherworldly voice helps to create quite a unique sound. Yet, as I said, she lacks any drive to do anything. There is no effort to do anything. I am not trying to come for Mitchy. Again no fiery torches, please. She has great ideas and tastes but never implements them. They are just thoughts. Never anything set in motion. I attribute this to Mitch’s fear of rejection and thirst for approval. On the surface Mitch appears an unaffected individual, but we know is actually quite sensitive and bottles up pain. To go out and create something that represents him is a scary thing. Especially since Mitch’s anxiety at times has caused things to go south (almost leaving the Sing Off because it was so bad or not taking the boat in Hawaii the other day with the gang). Due to these matters Mitch cannot sustain a solo career. The music would be a back and forth of it ever coming out and Mitch would have trouble in interviews and red carpets all the time without someone there. Finally to what you all have been reading for.

With all these things, Scott and Mitch work to make up for the other’s failings. Mitch is the one that grounds Scott and keeps him focused and inspired. And Scott is the one to encourage Mitch and express how gifted his other half is and how much the public deserves to hear such beauty. Scott has the ideas to create while Mitch has the vocals and little tricks to basically do any crazy idea Scott comes up with. The two of them are able to combine what they love most about music to create material that they can both be proud of. It is the same for whatever endeavor they pursue. Together they are stronger. They are a team. Partners in crime.
