Happy Birthday, Jouno - Suegiku
Decided to post my first oneshot here, and it's to celebrate Jouno's birthday before it ends in my time zone <3 happy birthday to the special boy
Despite barely being conscious, the day seemed normal to Jouno. He was in the same calm, serene environment that he was usually greeted with in the mornings.
The same feeling of comforter keeping him warm, the same pillow for him to rest his head on... And of course, the same feeling of Tecchou's arms around his waist, and the sound of his soft and consistent breathing; the sounds that would lull him to sleep on restless nights.
"Hey, are you awake?" His lover gently squeezed his hips, burying his face in the nape of his neck. At this, Jouno sighed and attempted to roll onto his stomach, pretending to be annoyed; as was usual.
"Let me rest, asshole." The man groaned, before yawning quietly into his hand. "What time is it, anyway? Surely we have at least 10 more minutes..."
Upon hearing this, Tecchou sat up just enough to get a glance at the alarm clock on his bedside table, which read 6:34 AM.
"It's almost like you have a clock in your brain, Jouno. It's impressive." The brunette placed his head back on his pillow, his grip on his lover tightening as he pulled him closer. "You don't mind if I get up now, do you? There's something I want to do for you."
Now curious, Jouno shifted so that he was now facing the man. "And what is that? I'll be able to hear you, so there's no way you can surprise me." Despite his sour words, he couldn't hide the small smile that was tugging at his lips as he spoke.
"At least let me try to." Tecchou then placed a soft kiss on his lover's cheek, before sitting up and placing the rest of the sheets on the man beside him. "You rest here. You've been working so hard lately, so you deserve it."
"Alright, alright. Do what you have to do, just don't almost blow up the stove like last time." Jouno could no longer hold back his smile once the realization that he had been kissed began to set in, and the sight of this caused Tecchou's cheeks to heat up.
"I won't, I promise."
In actuality, Tecchou had set everything up the night prior while his lover was asleep, making sure that everything was meticulously set up and absolutely perfect. He had called upon his coworkers for assistance, too, ensuring Jouno's happiness and enjoyment the following morning.
As the man stepped out of the bedroom and carefully shut the door, he noticed the various wrapped boxes were stacked on the table of his apartment, alongside a vase that held various flowers; flowers such as calla lilies, forget-me-nots, and lilies of the valley. Just a few days ago, he had decided to put Tachihara's flower knowledge to good use, and picked out the ones that he figured Jouno would appreciate the most.
As Tecchou began pulling various strawberry items out of the fridge, he began pondering on how Jouno would react to this. It didn't seem that he noticed anything special about today, and didn't express any signs of knowing what he was up to this morning, after all.
Continuing to place items on the countertop, the brunette sighed softly.
Jouno had been working so hard lately that he hadn't been keeping track of the days. He probably didn't even know it was September, given that he spent a majority of his time filling out paperwork and apprehending criminals for months at this point. He had barely any leisure time, and was placing a lot more responsibility on his shoulders. Naturally, Tecchou couldn't help but wonder if there was an underlying reason for that.
The vampire incident clearly left an effect on their organization, hell, even the whole military; but his gut couldn't help but tell him the same thing:
"Something is wrong with Jouno. It can't just be the idea of the vampire incident. It's more personal than that, it has to be."
The man caught himself holding his breath, standing still until the cool air from the fridge sent a chill down his spine, interrupting his thoughts.
He had to make today special for him, no matter what.
After taking a brief look at the scene once everything was set out, Tecchou slowly opened the bedroom door once more and peered inside, immediately noticing the peaceful expression on Jouno's face. He seemed content now that he had been talked into proper rest and self care, and the sight was enough to make the man smile with happiness.
Now that he was seeing this, he almost didn't want to disturb his lover at all and just let him sleep to his heart's content. However, these thoughts soon subsided as Jouno sighed.
"Were you going to tell me what you were up to, or are you just going to stare at me?"
"Ah, sorry." With that, Tecchou walked to his bedside and carefully tucked some of his lover's hair behind his ear, placing yet another kiss on his forehead.
"Come on, I have everything ready for you. You'll love it, I promise."
"Is that why I smell strawberries out there? Did you finally manage to make something that a reasonable person would eat?" Despite his harsh words, the man quickly returned the kiss, sitting up and placing his feet on the ground.
"No, Teruko helped me out." The man carefully guided Jouno out into the kitchen.
"I should have expected that. What is this about, anyways?"
As soon as he said this, it seemed that everything hit Jouno at once and he received a tight hug from behind.
"We're taking the day off to do whatever you want. Happy birthday, Jouno."
After receiving those words, Jouno couldn’t help but smile and return the hug and place a soft kiss on Tecchou’s lips.
“Thank you.”
