junghwan is the best character in Reply 1988
I’ve seen some people say he’s dull and boring, and i wonder if we actually saw the same show or not because it’s clear to me that he’s the one person who cares the most about all the people he loves. When his dad feels under-appreciated, he goes out of his way to reciprocate his silliness and make him happy. He studies hard for his mother, not to mention, plans a wedding for her when he finds out his parents never had a wedding. Even though everyone else refer to his brother as a no-good dumb grown man, inferior to junghwan in every way, he never thinks of his brother like that and instead, always wants to make him happy- to the point that all the dreams he had for what he wants to be when he grows up are what his brother wishes he could be but cannot because of his illness. He’s the one who immediately hit the bullies when they said “are you bragging that you don’t have a dad?” to sunwoo, when he’d silently followed all their orders before. He’s the only one who puts up with dong-ryong’s constant chatter and adventures without ever stopping him. I don’t even need to get into all the things he does for doeksun. My boy junghwan, the “i waited for an hour every morning to go to school with you. at night i couldn't sleep at all worrying about you until you got home. i thought of nothing but you. just you. when i ran into you on the bus, when we went to the concert together, when you gifted me a shirt for my birthday... i was so happy that i thought i was going crazy. i wanted to see you more than a dozen times a day. i was happy just to see you.” junghwan. But most of all, he truly loved and cared about Taek, sacrificing and burying his own feelings for Taek’s, going out of his way to avoid doeksun because he could never hurt taek like that. Junghwan is a character who loved deeply and with his entire heart. He’s quiet, considerate and sure, grumbling. But the grumbling definitely comes from his mother. He’s grown up seeing his mother express her love for his father through annoyed yelling, grumbling, and scolding. That’s the only way he knows how to show that he cares and loves.
IN CONCLUSION, nobody better come for my boy and say he didn’t deserve Doeksun or whatever and that he was boring. He deserved the entire world and was the best of all the characters in the show. Thank you for coming to my tedtalk.

do u guys know a series/movie/manga/literally any media except books that have a ship (preferably canon) that have the same dynamic like deoksun and junghwan from reply 1988??
Llike the deadpan ‘tsundere’ and the sunshine one but the deadpan one is the one who likes sunshine person first and more. Tbh it could be a hetero ship or a sapphic ship

Dear Kim Jung-Hwan,
Frown on the face and warmth in heart you made everyone fall in love with you. You are the Best Character I've ever seen- so considerate and full of love for his family and friends, you had hard time expressing it but it never hindered your actions.
Remember when you were playing soccer at school and the seniors were asking Sun-woo to take his father's pendent off- you were irritated at Sun-woo for not taking it off and wearing it later but when the seniors forgot the line with Sun-woo you did not hesitate in punching the bully right across his face, your face got some bruises too but you shrugged it off and went home.
Other time when you saw Dong-Ryong being escorted by the goons and you bravely started following them, calculating how to take them down however ended up getting your money and shoes taken. Sorry for the loss but the friendship shone.
If I recollect correctly you were irritated with all the hype Deok-seon and the families were creating about Deok-Seon being the picket girl but you were silently rooting for her too. You did not jump like others when Deok-Seon was on TV- the smile you had told us everything.
The way you did that really embarrassing greetings, that your father loved, hesitantly though but you did it because you couldn't see your dad sad.
The time you performed in the talent show because Deok-seon's friends ended up breaking their bones- and oh boy you nailed the entire routine.
That day when you saw your mom wasn't feeling herself and Dong-Ryong made you realise the reason and you went around the house with a calm smile screaming for your mother's help when Jung-Bong (YOU) burnt his hand while making ramen, when your father (YOU) broke the coals and when you couldn't find your boxers and then you smiled watching your mother smile. The time you scribbled in your mother's passport so that she wouldn't be embarrassed or the time you organised your parents's surprise wedding or the many other times you did things for your Hyung (elder brother) and joined the Air Force to complete your hyung's dream.
All the times you stayed up late, patiently waiting for Deok-seon to return home, asked the driver to wait only 10 seconds so that Deok-seon could board it, travelled all the distance because she asked you to meet her at McDonalds, protected her from the turbulent bus ride, protected her from the dean during the field trip, got her those pink gloves she wanted even though you weren't her secret Santa, safe guarded the pink shirt she gifted you- I hope that Pink shirt is somewhere in a box- kept in the corner of your house, collecting dust.
I'm sorry it couldn't work out with Deok-seon maybe it was all the red lights or maybe it was the delay in gathering the courage to tell her your feelings. I'm sorry she couldn't notice all the goofy smiles you gave her, all the small gestures you did for her. I'm sorry you had to turn your first love confession into a joke and leave your fiancé ring on the table at that restaurant but I wish you're with someone now who noticed all your small gestures and heard your unspoken words. I hope you have a happy and loving family of your own. I hope you've a regular life and smile constantly now and have regular meet up with your childhood friends. I hope now when you open your wallet you look at a picture of you and your wife smiling widely at each other. I hope you are happy and warm.
I'm sorry- life is cruel for those who have hard time expressing their feelings or are misunderstood to be cold because they don't constantly express but also Thank you, Jungpal because of you I'll pay more attentions at small gestures, I'll try to hear more intently to the few words spoken so that I won't miss my Jung-hwan.
I also promise to be more considerate for others feelings and be always there for my family and friends.
Thank You Jung-hwan for being a part of my life. Thank you for making me appreciate memories more.
Thank you for making me realise that expressing doesn't only mean words.
Thank You ♥️

“Fate doesn’t find you on your own will
That is why another name for fate is timing
My first love has always been grabbed by that beggar-like timing- that damned timing.
But then fate and timing are not coincidences that find you. They are miraculous moments made by desperate decisions. Giving up and making a decision without hesitation is timing. The bad one was not the traffic light; not timing but it was my countless hesitations.”

Lovestagram? #RyuVersion
Before reading this:
WARNING! LONG-POST AHEAD
This is only an opinion, and this may not be true. If you want to believe it, go ahead, if not, never mind :)
Click ‘Keep Reading’ to see the content
*insert Jungbong’s famous line*:  ENJOY!
So, it’s now everyone’s knowledge that uri Yeolri is real. Yup, it’s not a dream guys, it’s reality. I know, it’s very shocking at first, but as usual Dispatch gave us the leads and who can ever fight Dispatch when it comes to a dating rumor, right?
Alright, so getting into a little bit of a background information first: Lovestagram (love instagram) is a term used to describe ‘flirting’ or ‘hinting’ a relationship between a celebrity and another, but the nature of this activity is usually very discreet.
So why am I talking about lovestagram? Well, because it might seem that several of Junyeol’s posts have much deeper meaning that it looks. Let’s get into it.
Let’s go by Dispatch’s info that Yeolri got together at the end of 2016. If we look at Junyeol’s instagram feed, suspicious posts could begin At the end of August 2016. Let’s just go into it now, alright?
1. 31 August 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 그래. 니 마음 다 알아
Translation: Alright. I understand all your feelings.
Hm... I understand all of your feelings. Could this be the first hint from Junyeol about Hyeri’s feelings towards him?
2. 05 September 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 혼자가 아니야. 늘 둘이야.  너는 여기 나는 거기.
Translation: You’re not alone. It has always been us two. You’re here and I’m there.
Alright, isn’t this like some kind of a sign? Okay maybe they’re not together yet on this very date, but it might seem like he is reassuring her that he will always be there for her, you know.. through hard times
Also, anyone recognizes this from their Dispatch date pictures? similar, huh?
3. 12 September 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 좋다. 좋아. 좋음.
Translation: Nice. Good. Great.
Yes, nice good great. All range of vocabularies are out to describe his feelings. This, imo, is a very strong sign of Yeolri getting together, it’s a nice, good and great day, indeed.
Also, Lee Chung Ah - Junyeol’s co-star in Lucky Romance and fellow Cjes artist commented on this very post, saying “좋으지 ;-)” Trans: It’s good, indeed ;-). So guys, what do you think that means? You can make a guess.
4. 24 September 2016
A post shared by 류준열 (@ryusdb) on Sep 24, 2016 at 3:05am PDT
Caption: 널 만나러 갈 시간.
Translation: The way to meeting you.
Alright. So, “The way to meeting you” it is then. The caption is pretty clear, is it telling you that he is on the way to meet her somewhere?
5. 25 September 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 오늘 그렇듯, 언젠간 만납니다. 무엇이든, 우리가 꿈꾸는 것을.
Translation: Just like today, we will meet someday. Everything, the things we are dreaming about.
To be honest, 25 September is Junyeol’s birthday and it’s definitely the day of his fan-meeting.  Also, the caption written here is what’s also written on the tumblers given as souvenirs to his fans. But... could it also be a message directed towards this certain someone? Hm...
6. 29 September 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 수많은 사람들중에 우리가 만난, 우리가 사랑한 이유는 우리라서.
Translation: Among the many people we’ve met, the reason that we are loving (each other) is because it’s us.
Yeah, exactly ‘we’. Uhm,... really? what do you think about this? A little bit of story: Junyeol first met Hyeri during R88′s full cast script-reading. Junyeol who saw Hyeri’s face on the advertisement before going to see her, had his hearbeat dugeun dugeun like crazy. Who know they would become lovers?
7. 30 September 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 화려한 것보단 소중한 것을 주고 싶다.
Translation: Rather than something grand, I want to give something precious.
Is he planning to give something to her? Whatever it is, it must’ve been precious indeed. As we know, he is a very thoughtful person, isn’t he? :)
8. 2 October 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 타세요. 멀리 가려면 같이 가야하니까
Translation: Hop on. Because if we’re going to go far, we need to go together.
Yes, as a celebrity, dating another celebrity is definitely not easy, especially if you haven’t gone public yet. You have to cover yourselves in thick dawn jackets, wear mask, and basically cover almost every inch of ur body. Staying strong is key.
9. 4 October 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 시작은 달라도 우리의 끝은 같잖아.
Translation: Despite the different start, we end up at the same place.
Right, like what’s been written previously. Junyeol was still a nugu when he first met Hyeri. Hyeri was an advertising queen whom he’d seen so many times before, but now? They’re standing together, as a couple, going towards the future together.
10. 7 October 2016 (DELETED POST)
Tumblr media
Caption: 는 없어. 미안해. 이렇게 돼버려서
Translation: There is no way out*. Sorry. It ended up like this.
Wait there, this post was deleted? Yeah... Apparently. The reason? well I don’t know.. but if this was meant for the girl, it means, there’s no way out from my heart, right? hehehe XD
11. THE TVN10 AWARDS POST. 11 October 2016
Tumblr media
Caption:  🙏
Well yeah, I’m not sure what that adorable emoticon means, but it tells me that he’s blessed and thankful to have been given the award TOGETHER with his love. Am I right?
12. 17 November 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 괜찮아. 이제 우리만의 방식으로 날아오르자. 괜찮아.
Translation: It’s okay. Now let’s fly with our own way. It’s okay.
Alright. Maybe both of them are in the emotional stage now, who knows, right? But as we know he is staying positive and is trying to cheer her up by implying that he’s always gonna be there, she’s not alone.
13. 27 November 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 잊지 않고 마음에 되새기다.
Translation: I remember it in my mind without forgetting.
Junyeol, ah... what is it that you’’ll always remember? hehehe
14. 15 December 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: '진심은 통한다' 라는 말을 좋아했었다. 지금은 믿고 있다.
Translation: I liked the saying “I feel sincere.” But now, I believe in it.
Hm... isn’t this really so obvious? Sincerity is usually tied with feelings. But what kind of sincerity is he talking about? Well, you all can guess.
Anyway, he said he likeD the saying, and now he believeS in it. You see? Junyeol hasn’t been in a relationship for quite some time according to his past interviews. He may not have experienced such sincerity for a woman before, but now he knows how it must feel. <3
15. 30 December 2016
Tumblr media
Caption: 우리는 진짜야.
Translation: We are real
Guys, seriously?.... There. He said it.
16. 1 January 2017 (New Year’s Post)
Tumblr media
Caption: 새해가 되었다고 새로운 날이 아니다. 우리가 사랑하는 순간부터 새로운 날이다. 언제라도, 우리는 새로운 날을 만날수 있다.
Translation: It is not a new day that it is a new year. It is a new day from the moment we love. Anytime, we can meet a new day.
Yes, he’s basically saying that every day that passed counts as the day they love each other. HOW SWEET T.T
17. 15 January 2017
A post shared by 류준열 (@ryusdb) on Jan 15, 2017 at 8:31am PST
Caption: 로미오, 당신이 성을 바꾸지 않는다면 우린 만날 수 없어요. 그러니 내가 바꾸겠어요.
Translation: Romeo, if you do not change your name, we could not be together. Or else, I will change mine.
Know what, guys? This is an actual dialogue from Romeo & Juliet. How romantic is Junyeol, fml. And by the way (this is top secret, but oh well, it’s for u guys)... There was a rumor that said yeolri went out on this day and have a planetarium date. Hence the light video (representing the stars) and the caption.
18. 15 January 2017. Y’ALL KNOW WHAT THIS IS.
Tumblr media
No Caption.
Indeed. No caption. You know why? well the post IS a fact that it’s for R88 anniversary. BUT he chose to upload a picture where only junghwan and deoksun a.k.a he and hyeri are in. What do you guys think about this? Well, for me... it’s to show how thankful he is for the drama - for letting him meet Hyeri.
19. 24 January 2017
Tumblr media
Caption: love, love is a verb. 넘어서면 널 붙잡을 수 있을텐데.
Translation: Love, love is a verb. I could get hold of you if I crossed over.
I think this caption is pretty self-explanatory. and obvious.
20. 9 February 2017
Tumblr media
Caption: 기념하고 싶은 날.
Translation: Feels like a day to celebrate
A day to celebrate what? HEHEHE
FROM THIS POINT ON, JUNYEOL DID NOT REALLY POST ANYTHING LOVESTAGRAM-IE. BUT.
Girl’s day had their comeback around March. Hyeri posted her bits of her comeback teaser (a video). Guess what... ryu liked that video 5 days after she posted it. Can you imagine
Hyeri: Oppa, why didn’t you like my comeback teaser post?
Junyeol: Do I really have to like it?
Hyeri: Of course! Aren’t you going to show support to your girlfriend?
Junyeol: Arasseo
21. 20 May 2017
Tumblr media
Caption: Love.
Yup. love. with period. It seems like this couple has interest in cosmic things. Like stars, moon, and things like that. The caption is sweet, short, and very obvious already.
22. 17 July 2017
Tumblr media
Caption: 나의 마음을 다 태웠어. 그래서 나의 마음이야.
Translation: I’ve burned my heart. That’s why it’s my heart.
I’m not sure what this caption means, but we all can tell it’s about his heart and how he wants to give all the affection to hyeri. Am I right or just bluffing here?
23. 17 July 2017
Tumblr media
Caption: 나의 창에 너의 달
Translation: I’m the window and you’re the moon
Btw this was posted on the same day as the previous one. As you can tell from the caption... It’s definitely talking about Hyeri who’s the object of beauty in the darkness of the universe. The window can only stare at the moon that’s shining so bright.
THIS IS GONNA BE THE END OF THE POST FOR NOW.
There are actually so many other posts that carry really deep messages, you can go check it out on ryu’s instagram and hit SEE TRANSLATION button if you wanna know the rough meaning. I hope you guys have enjoyed reading this. I’m sorry if I’ve gone overboard with the analysis. Do leave a comment to share your thoughts about this!

recently i’ve been watching reply 1988 and one thing i realised is, even though i loved Taek, he really was just an obstacle to what could have been a great love story between Junghwan and Dukseon. i love their dynamics way more than Taek and Dukseon. i feel so very sorry for Junghwan who i feel literally let Dukseon from in between his fingers. sigh.
this is the worst case of second lead syndrome i have ever had.
but gotta accept what we have to. loving the show but not the ending..

Tingkat kebaperan w sama second lead ye. Dari yang paling ringan dulu.
1. Gong Myung. Ini dia di Drinking Solo. Gak ngerti deh kenapa bisa baper hahaha. Kekeuh banget dia disitu perannya. 😂
2. Chil Bong. Reply 1994 ye. Ini kzl sih. Ntar kalo w crita, w spoiler. Pokoknya ku suka dia di film ini.
3. Jung Hwan. JANGAN TANYA TINGKAT KEBAPERAN W SAMA INI ORAAANG.. Sampe sekarang kalo liat fotonya Reply 1988 cuma dia yang w liat. W baperin. Gimane sih. Timingnya itu lho.. Pas telat terus. Padahal dia lakik abis. Baik abis. Kray.
Babang Jung Hwan.. Ai pada yu. 💕

So I just finished Reply 1988. At first, I was on board #TeamJunghwan all the time. But then I just realized maybe junghwan/deoksun interactions seems more real and adorable bc their chemistry and feelings are real, not just some acts (i mean, the actors are now irl couple). If I try to put that aside and try to see it in a more realistic way, choi taek rlly deserves her tbh and now I board #TeamTaek too HAHA. As a girl myself, I'd hate to see someone that hesitate so many times, until it's too late. I say shy yet brave guy is lovable (not to mention CT's so indeed cute haha). The only downside is that the fact instead of being relieved from the middle child burden, DS once again needs to babysit and put other's need in front of hers, trying her best to be the caretaker. But CT manages to fulfill DS love languages, which I'd say qtime-words-gifts (idk tho lol just assumptions)
But I still really need a happier ending for junghwan. Maybe match her with a girl that's brave enough to "signal" her love for him? Or maybe just give us a little cameo of Junghwan and his love of his life in the next reply series :")
Nevertheless, it's a really good drama!!! I have no regret finishing it and I'll definitely rewatch it again!

Who are your favourite protagonists and why?
Hmm honestly anyone protagonist from my top 10 dramas because they’re all such fantastic people.
Bae Doona as Detective Han Yeo Jin in Secret Forest
Tumblr media
It was fairly obvious she’d make it on my list because she was just amazing. She’s 100% my favourite FL and for good reason. Whenever she rolled her eyes or gave those lousy police officers death glares I felt warm inside. Also the way her brain worked was just hilarious, sometimes she’d do something and i’d be so confused. When the synopsis has ‘eccentric female lead’ Yeojin is exactly who i think of.
Lee Yooyoung as Shin Jae Yi in Tunnel
Tumblr media
I don’t know what it was about this particular character that spoke to me, but she was spectacular. Compare to the male leads she barely spoke or expressed much emotion, but then after that one scene near the end (I think we know) she suddenly broke and you could see how much she was trying to keep it together throughout. A similar thing could be said about Lieutenant Kim who flipped the hell out when he found the man who killed his mother and he just went wild…so powerful.
Kim Seonho as Ko Ji Seok in Catch the Ghost
Tumblr media
this photo gave me butterflies send help
Best believe he’s on the list because he completely captured my heart. His range of emotions and expressions is insane, he’s such a compassionate soul but also sensitive and I love him for it. He’s constantly questioning his actions and is always there to support others. Jiseok is the best lead of 2019 and I’m not taking this back ever.
Ryu Junyeol as Kim Jung Hwan in Reply 1988
Tumblr media
He’s a protagonist in my teary eyes ok. I think I just love the really quiet characters who suddenly show they’re human too near the end. We all know why Junghwan has a special place in my heart as one of the cutest characters ever. #TeamJunghwan (forever)
Jung Kyungho as Han Tae Joo in Life on Mars
Tumblr media
In all honesty i’ve just added Tae Joo because he was really going through it lmao. Every day he just looked exhausted but he somehow powered through it all. He really looked broken a few episodes in and every episode he really showed that he was going through turmoil, which subsequently made me cry like a baby. The first time he smiled i smiled so hard.
Jang Nara as Ma Jin Joo in Go Back Couple
Tumblr media
Speaking of characters that made me cry like a baby, Jinjoo was one of the characters that stabbed me right in the heart. Not really a spoiler, but when she first saw her mum and broke down in tears…i felt that. Then her letter to her too? I was practically drained of emotions because of her. She really took full advantage of her trip back to the past and just seeing her feel young again with her school friends was beautiful. It was clear that she had lost her identity after becoming a mother and the experience brought the colour back into her cheeks (without getting rid of the kids like a certain other drama…*cough* familiar wife *cough*)

A quick encapsulation of my thoughts on some of the shows I’ve watched. Some in this list I provided a lengthier discussion, but in here it’s going to be brief. Watch out for spoilers. In no particular order. Also will get updated as I watch more dramas!
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (Korean)
One of my absolute faves. Beautiful OTP chemistry with just the right amount of sweetness and angst. I LOVE the soundtrack, too; not too dramatic and not too grating in the ears. I’ve rewatched this show countless times. 9.5/10.
Descendants of the Sun (Korean)
Probably the funniest drama I’ve watched so far. Lead boy is attractive as hell; lead girl irked me for a good while before I gradually warmed up to her. Story though is not that memorable. 8/10.
Goblin: the Great and Lonely Guardian (Korean)
Funny show with a great cast, although it can get a bit dragging what with all the repeated flashbacks and dramatic stares. I love the themes of the show, and also its soundtrack is probably the best I’ve heard in a drama. I had a soft spot for some of the characters (e.g. Deok hwa), although I didn’t feel the main romance at all (Goblin and Grim Reaper had more chemistry tbh). 8/10
It’s Okay, That’s Love (Korean)
Another favorite of mine. Soundtrack is amazing, and story is just brilliant. It has its own problems, of course, but they’re easily overshadowed by the more beautiful aspects of this show. 9.5/10
Suspicious Partner (Korean)
This is one of those dramas that was okay, but could’ve been better. Some conflicts (like the “your father is my parents’ killer” conflict) were for me unnecessary and should’ve been dropped. But the soundtrack was wonderful and some of the characters were memorable in their own right. 7.5/10
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon (Korean)
An alright show with an alright story, characters, etc. And I’m saying ‘alright’ because it didn’t really stood out much for me; I developed neither strong affection for it nor aversion. That’s good in some ways, I guess. 6.5/10
My Love from Another Star (Korean)
Some characters are great and are akin really to a breath of fresh air in the drama world. And while the premise is good, this show permanently irked me because of one thing: lead girl’s non-participation to the main plot. It involved her, but she wasn’t even aware of it. Nor did she have any active role aside from fawning over the lead guy mid to final part of the season. I know it was eventually explained but ugh, I still think it’s a great disservice to lead girl’s character. 7/10
Mischievous Princess (Chinese)
Guilty pleasure show of mine. I explained in my long review that this show is one of extremes—extremely bad and extremely good aspects. Costume, some of the lines, kung fu, and other aspects are way off. But the solid story and the memorable characters (Emperor!!!! Oh my goodness!) more than make up for it. This may not fit everyone’s palette, but damn did it fit mine. 8.5/10
Healer (Korean)
Watched it because of the rave reviews and while it didn’t disappoint, at the same time it didn’t really secure a solid affection from me. I like lead girl and the third lead, but Healer himself I didn’t warm up to right until the end. It has that political main plot which I like though. 7.5/10
Reply: 1988 (Korean)
Better believe the good reviews about it because it’s all true: this drama is a gem and is a must-watch. Only a few drama ever made me care about each and every character, and this is one of those. I only have a few teeny weeny complaints of course (like the ending and its treatment of my fave character), but overall, it’s all good. 9.5/10 (and before you ask, I am #TeamJungHwan.)
Crash Landing on You (Korean)
Didn’t live up to its hype, or at least not for me. It has a more coherent storyline and a better soundtrack than Descendants of the Sun, but the latter always made me laugh so there’s that. The main romance (and the main characters) kind of...bore me, and I easily found the side characters more interesting (esp the con man and the rat).  6.5/10
Fight for My Way (Korean)
I genuinely enjoyed this show. The leads were good and though I disagreed and was kinda annoyed with Ae-ra (lead girl) by the end of the show, overall I feel like the show really delivered a believable set of characters and story (funnily enough, I enjoyed the leads as friends rather than as a couple. Also, I would have preferred if the second couple never got back together? I don’t know). I like the fact that all characters have their own roles in the story and that no characters were there just for comedy. 8/10
SKY Castle (Korean)
All I can say is that this show deserves ALL the hype and praise it received. The story, characters, and acting from all the artists were just gripping and mind-blowing, and I was really on the edge of my seat with every episode. Needless to say, many tears were shed. 9.5/10
Signal (Korean)
The show was of course excellently written and almost-flawlessly executed, but it occasionally suffers from the overuse of prolonged eye stares and from some dragging scenes here and there (esp the “love story” scenes between the team leader and the missing cop--nope, not interested). Objectively, the show really is a gem, but it somehow didn’t pull at my heartstrings. 8.5/10
Love in the Moonlight (Korean)
Despite its flaws (’cause I tend to nitpick), I enjoyed this show quite a bit. Story is a little unpolished but is overall riveting and engaging. Lead couple also had chemistry (but really, lead girl cries every damn episode). 8.5/10
It’s Okay to Not be Okay (Korean)
It had a really solid start but it kinda lost steam in the middle and up until the end. Some of the characters were well-played (e.g. the lead trio) but others...were not that well-acted (e.g. the patients in the hospital). Also, if you’re looking for a good drama about mental health, this is not it. (The better choice is It’s Okay, That’s Love tbh.) 8/10
Dr. Romantic (Season 1) (Korean)
This drama is an absolute banger. Great story with twists that’ll make you hang on the edge of your seat, plus compelling characters with growth. In the end, I couldn’t be more proud of every single one of them. Also, the operation scenes were so awesome to behold. There were a few loose ends though, but those didn’t bother me as much. 9.5/10
Dr. Romantic (Season 2) (Korean)
As much as I loved Season 1, I extremely disliked Season 2. It lost the perfect balance of melodrama and medical life-saving that Season 1 had, and instead tipped the scale by a lot more towards melodrama. I didn’t feel any of the romances nor did I feel cast chemistry especially among the new characters. There were some good scenes of course, but not enough to save this season unfortunately. 6.5/10
Flower of Evil (Korean)
Absolutely wonderful kdrama up until the ending (because fuck that ending, sorry). Characters were phenomenal, and the story--while having a few jumps in logic--is overall masterfully-made. But I really have to dock points because of that ending. 9.4/10.
Chicago Typewriter (Korean)
Would you believe that it took me more than a year to actually finish this show? That’s how much (or how little) interest I had for this show, sorry. Story was okay, even touching at some points. But the characters were a bit lackluster and the pacing was uneven. The only up-side is really the music. 6.5/10.
Hyena (Korean)
Quite an enjoyable drama overall. Story is quite good, but the show particularly shines with lead girl, who maintained that charisma all throughout. I had more uneven feelings with lead boy though; I rooted for him at the start, and then got annoyed with his character, and eventually he was okay again. 8/10
Prison Playbook (Korean)
A masterpiece of a drama (as expected from PD Shin). Story is good, but the characters are phenomenal--never one-sided, always layered and nuanced (exc probably for one character). All in all, I think this is a pretty good drama to introduce to non-K-Drama watchers. I enjoyed this drama thoroughly. 9.5/10
Beyond Evil (Korean)
Another thriller must-watch. The tempo was kind of slow at the beginning, and the first few episodes are actually confusing as hell, but by the middle and end of the show, every single thing was just *chef’s kiss*. This show is probably not for everyone, but it damn did it went straight into my fave list. 9.5/10.
Vincenzo (Korean)
This show honestly surprised me. They were able to nicely blend in some of the more darker themes with humor. It takes time to get used to the ridiculousness of some elements, but overall this was a fun, fun show. I really wish they removed the romance element though as it was unnecessary. 9.0/10
Squid Game (Korean)
Such an enjoyable series that doesn’t miss on anything. Every episode is a treat, except probably the last episode (which is widely considered as the weakest). The show is probably the most “rated” kdrama I’ve watched as well. 9.0/10
The Light in Your Eyes (Korean)
I liked the themes, and I understand that the show is one that is supposed to make you think (which I appreciate). Show is overall excellently made but I guess I just wasn’t attached to it that much. 7.0/10
D.P. (Korean)
Good show with lots of twists and heart-wrenching moments. There were moments during the last episode that made me scratch my head, but that did not lessen my enjoyment of the whole show. 8.0/10
Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha (Korean)
Overall a light and relaxing show to watch, although a few episodes (especially when the lead girl and the lead boy got together) were waaaay too sweet for me. I literally had to pause and watch some horror games just to balance the saccharine overdose. 8.5/10.
Stranger (Season 1) (Korean)
The pacing was a bit slow (actually slower than Beyond Evil) but the overall story, acting and characters are superb. There were loose ends here and there, but these do not take away how excellently made this show is. 9.0/10.
