Wanna hear about: Untitled Pre-Suicide Mission fic (Mass Effect, Shepard x Kaidan) pleeaaasssseee <3 <3
So basically, Shepard is gonna call Kaidan before going through the Omega Relay because she figures he deserves a heads-up this time if she's about to die. Really emotional, but not necessarily all angst.
Sitting down at her desk, she pulls up her mail, glancing at her inbox, her eyes drawn to the message entitled About Horizon that she can’t bring herself to mark as read despite having read it so much that she could almost certainly quote it word for word.
...
Shepard opens the tab to compose a new message then stops, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. If Kaidan were about to die, she wouldn’t want to hear about it in a simple message.
“EDI,” she calls out.
“Yes, Shepard?” the AI responds.
“Hypothetically speaking, if I were to ask you to open a video link to someone, without knowing where exactly in the galaxy they are… is that something you could do?”
The AI is quiet for a moment, and Shepard begins to worry there’s something wrong. Then EDI speaks. “If you are referring to Staff Commander Alenko, I have already located him.”
Shepard pauses. “Has Joker ever told you you’re too smart for your own good?” she asks, burying her head in her hands.
“Multiple times,” EDI replies, “though typically in less pleasant ways.”

Reaching her hands out, her biotics catched hold of the debris easily. She’d done enough of this in the last few months for her body to know what she wanted. Wisps of power curled around the wreckage and with a quick movement of her hands, she yanked the offending piece of metal from the ground and into the air, throwing it with as much force as she could muster.

This is so Vistri and Astarion starting to fall in love. Maybe Act II, before they confess that this is something real. It's there, and it makes them happy, and they don't know what to do with it.

After the Cazador fight, like right after killing him. The time between that and the graveyard scene. They have their lives back, but both of them are also super triggered. (Vistri killed her abuser pre-canon, and Dark Urge Vistri has a slightly different version of that.) They're both just reeling, hopeful, and ragged. It's a brand new world.
C - "Come As You Are" by Nirvana [Spotify] [YouTube]
Accepting each other for who they are, as well as accepting themselves. They don't have to be perfect, they can just be Vistri and Astarion. This is a good thing, but it's also got a very deep pain attached to it for both of them. They're afraid of it, but it's also welcoming because they're there to accept and celebrate everything they learn about each other.

Their initial meeting. When Astarion tackles Vistri and holds his dagger at her throat, and she finally feels something other than numb. They don't trust each other because they recognize how similar they are right away. It's unsettling. They're drawn to each other and despise each other because of it. Flirting is knives. Their charms and witticisms are a subtextual war.

Act III, post-Cazador. Y'all know what this one is. Completely involved, devoted, passionate, rough lovemaking after they decide to live their lives again. Indulgently in love.

After sleeping together that first time. It was "just fun" but they feel a euphoria they're not used to feeling. They have no idea they're falling in love.
S - "Sanctuary" by K.ZIA [Spotify] [YouTube]
Vistri and Astarion finding safety in non-sexual intimacy together after a lifetime of hypersexuality as a trauma response. Just laying together, holding hands, and talking for hours. Not needing to do or be anything. Not needing to perform to be worthy. Loved and adored exactly as they are without giving anything.

Post-canon. Astarion and Vistri ruling over the 7,000 vampire spawn in the Underdark. Happy, thriving, fabulous.

Must You? Mass Effect - Gianna Parasini x Kaidan Alenko
God, it was so much easier to do this kind of thing when she was alone. Had anyone walked in on her, she could just dive for cover under a desk, behind a cabinet, in a ventilation shaft. Quick, safe, easy. But, with two of them involved, it more than doubled the risk of getting caught, and that was tying her stomach up in knots.
2. Neverending Winter Nights Dragon Age - OC x Nathaniel Howe
He rose and took a step back from the bed before reaching out to help her to her feet. When she followed, he stood before her, removing each piece of her armor until only the lightweight tunic and leggings worn beneath remained. But he also noticed as he focused on the armor that her hands were not idle. They moved to her braid, easily and quickly loosening the tie. He half-considered asking her to stop when they started to unweave the braid, for he liked how it looked on her, but he noticed she removed a few small metallic items from it, items that stopped him cold as realization dawned.
Caltrops!
“Maker’s breath!” he rasped, attempting to recover his breath even as his eyes widened in surprise. It didn’t take much to understand they both could have been injured had they not been removed. “Why?”
Slender shoulders shrugged as she finished loosening the rest of her hair. It fell into a long, heavy, thick curtain around her shoulders only ending at her waist. “In my line of work,” she explained, her voice nonchalant, “I do what I need to in order to survive.”
3. Home Mass Effect - Kristofer Shepard x Kaidan Alenko
Kris half-turns toward him, and it’s like the sun breaks through the clouds to shine directly in Kaidan’s face; Kristofer’s smile is so bright and brilliant, such a contrast to what Kaidan has come to expect over the years they’ve known one another. Not to suggest that Kris is never happy, by any means, but this is taking it to a whole new and completely unexpected level.
4. Brain Freeze Mass Effect - Aubrey (Shepard) (clone) x Kaidan Alenko
Aubrey frowned.
“It’s a popsicle,” Kaidan told him. “Haven’t you ever had one?”
Aubrey tilted his head to examine the bright blue tube he held more closely. “No?” Cautiously, he brought it close to his nose and sniffed. Whatever a ‘popsicle’ was, it was cold and made his nose twitch. “What’s a popsicle?”
5. Bait & Switch Mass Effect/Mass Effect Andromeda - Reyes Vidal x Kaidan Alenko
“I don’t necessarily expect trouble,” Reyes explained, “but I also know better than to arrive at a rival’s base unprepared or unarmed.”
Alenko eyed him quietly, then lifted his hand. As he made a fist, a sheen of bluish-white energy skimmed over his skin, wrapping around his fingers as he closed them. “I’m never unarmed.”
It was impressive, charming even, in an odd sort of way. Reyes had never been up close to a biotic like this before, though he’d heard others talk about it. “Good. Because there is always the chance they’ll take our weapons from us when we arrive.”
6. La Vie En Rose Mass Effect Francesca Shepard x Kaidan Alenko
“What happens next?” She lifted her head to look at him. He could see she was still in discomfort, but her expression seemed a bit easier than earlier.
Sighing, Kaidan told her what he knew. “My parents are supposed to meet me when we arrive. Take me home.” Keep me under house arrest? He shrugged. “After that, I don’t know.”
He saw her draw her lip in between her teeth, biting down on it as she considered this. “What if ….” Was that fear he saw in her eyes? “What if we don’t have a home to go to?”
7. Give Me Peace Mass Effect Female Shepard x Kaidan Alenko
“Kaidan,” she gasped, their faces near enough he could hear her soft grunt, “I -”
“Don’t!” he hissed back, struggling to find an advantage somewhere. “You don’t get to call me that - only she did. I don’t know who you are, but you aren’t HER!”
“I AM!” she returned, meeting and matching his every move. Time was slowing down a bit, she had a chance, if only he would listen. “Kaidan - I am her … but I’m not."
8. Lonely Sunday Morning Mass Effect Michaela Shepard x Kaidan Alenko
It's then she notices her last chance, her one saving grace. Lying on the coffee table and flipped onto its face is her music datapad. She crosses the room in three strides and grabs it as well as the earbuds and returns to bed. A simple touch of her finger to the pad starts the playback. Something soothing and gentle, she hopes. Something that will transition her failure into sleep so she can get proper sleep to deal with whatever the reapers or Cerberus throw at her next. You win some, you lose some, she recalls her father saying once so many years ago. With a sigh, she thinks, Yeah, Pop, but today we lost an important one … one that might just keep us from winning the whole thing ….
She desperately hopes she is wrong on that count.
Lying back, her eyes close and she sighs heavily as the first soft strains of piano filter in. It isn’t any song she is familiar with, but it has a nice sound to it … and then a deep, powerful, rich voice starts to croon. Resonate.
9. Shepard in Sherwood Mass Effect Female Shepard x Kaidan Alenko
“Shepard, you’re going to an awful lot of trouble just for a movie,” Kaidan observed. But, he snuggled down next to her.
Shepard shook her head as the intro started. “Not at all,” she countered. “This movie is sooooooooo worth it! Now … HUSH!”
The opening strains of music was actually a strumming sound which confused Kaidan for a moment. Most movies began with huge orchestral pieces. And then the animation appeared on the screen … and a …
Kaidan frowned. “Is that a chicken?”
10. Run Away With Me Mass Effect Michael Shepard & OC
He really shouldn’t be making promises, especially important ones – powerful ones – but to hell with it. She needs hope right now… and maybe he does too. Leaning his back against the wall, she moves to lie her head on his lap, curling against him like a contented cat. What better proof that looks can be deceiving? Gently, he combs his fingers through her curls. “You know, you can go with me when I leave.”
Joelle huffs softly, but does not pull away. “Alliance is your dream, Johnny, not mine.”
“You could do a short enlistment. Go to school, study afterward, become whatever you want.” He waits a minute. Then two. When still she says nothing, he adds, “Can’t be any worse than here, can it?”
Looks like the randomizer came up with some good ones (I have far too many (148) to just pick ten!)!

WIP word search game
A little late but I have a hard time choosing snippets for this kind of thing. But thank you @ljandersen for the tag it’s been a while since I played one of these games.

My words: Touch, Break, Hand
Each snippet is from the “I’d Give You the Stars” series with Rose Shepard.
Touch: The energy of their biotics sends an electrifying tingle over their lips as they touch.
Break: His chest begins to ache as he feels his heart breaking inside, he clutches the chain to his chest right next to his heart as he begins sobbing. He curls himself over her body, holding her as close as he can while his tears fall onto her helmet.
Hand: He pauses as he cups her face in his hand. Her soft green eyes link with his. Then with a gentle stroke of her cheek with his thumb, Kaidan leans in to gently kiss her soft lips, before pulling back to rest his forehead against hers and whisper, “I’d give you the stars if I could Rose.” They rest like that for a moment before leaning back to stare at the endless expanse of stars above them.

I've had two Mass Effect Shenko fics on the backburner for a while now. They're gonna be really emotional and I don't have the spoons to do that rn, unfortunately. They both center around Mass Effect 2, one around Horizon and one pre-Suicide Mission.

Not that I'm aware of. I think this was more of a 'I like this name' decision for my mom.
2. When was the last time you cried?
In the last week definitely. This lady has not been sleeping well.
3. Do you have kids?
Yes, a 3 yo and a 2 yo.
4. Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Depends on the situation and what you consider a lot, I guess. Not usually in my day to day interactions, but online with my friends, yes.

6. What's your eye color?
Hazel-green.
7. Scary movies or happy endings?
I like scary movies, but I prefer getting happy endings in my fiction. Nothing wrong with people being happy.
8. Any special talents?
Not sure if cooking would be considered a special talent, but I'm really good at it.

New York, USA
10. What are your hobbies?
Reading, writing, playing video games, obsessing over fictional characters, baking, playing with the kids and dogs.

Yes, three of them! Two dogs: Duncan who is a shepard/boxer mix and Bella who was supposed to be a cavapoo, but I'm pretty sure she's a maltese/poodle. Also a kitty named Muffin (who is 16 this year!)

Never got into sports. I only participated when it was required in school, but never actually liked it.

English, I always got the best teachers and they were always so supportive of my writing. Also Art. I have always loved art. I haven't done in a long time though.

He was struggling to pick a lane. Oh God, she was right there. Just like the last time, he was losing control.

“You didn’t answer it.”
“I couldn’t.”

A few steps later, he kissed her when no one was looking. It felt like hell to tear himself away from her and continue walking. They walked and talked in a shared daydream, detached from the reality around them, and a need broiled between them that was left unspoken.

Garrus, the largest of them, was curled up and leaning against Tali, who was the smallest and in the middle. Liara was snug in the bench's corner up against the wall, taking up more space than the other two with her legs spread out.
Shepard patted Kasumi on the shoulder, “Mind if I go join them?”
“Of course! I’ll be good up here alone.” She looked up at Shepard and winked, “I’m sure you’re exhausted.”

Kaidan clutched his datapad, holding it in front of him. Shepard put her fingers on her keyboard.
Maybe it was just a message away.
They each took a deep sigh. The same few seconds in the universe passed.
