Welcome to my casting for the very serious, extremely scholarly, entirely unfounded, never once requested: Himbo-fication of the America Revolution TV Series that HBO should make asap.
Now, I think we’d all acknowledge there are some founding fathers we just can’t redeem or prettify, I’ve got opinions on them too, and their wives as well and much more, but for our current cause: I present what one might call: Founding Lads. Not all of them. Just the ones I’ve got weirdly settled opinions on. If anyone wants the whole script for this endeavor, it’s been rotting under my bed for seven years. By the time I get it produced these young actors will all be dead, but that’s that and not pertinent to the art of historical Himbo-fication

Now for this last one, I have neither a compelling argument nor a graphic, I simply ask you to imagine this amount of sass playing whichever favorite headache of George Washington’s staff that you prefer. My vote goes to Tallmadge.

Does anyone else ever think about this drawing of Charles Lee done by Tadeusz Kościuszko? I think about it a lot. I want to know what he was going for. Clearly this isn't meant to be flattering...but like, why is he in a giant boot? For context, the guy could draw. The illustration below is one he did while in art school in Paris. I have so many questions.

The Hall of Honor at the Polish Pavilion during the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Techniques dans la Vie Moderne (International Exposition of Art and Technology in Modern Life) held in 1937 in Paris. The Hall was designed by Stanisław Brukalski and Bohdan Pniewski. The statues depict Bolesław Chrobry, Władysław Jagiełło, Nicolaus Copernicus, Tadeusz Kościuszko, Adam Mickiewicz, Fryderyk Chopin and Józef Piłsudski. The motto above reads Są ludzie i są prace ludzkie tak silne i tak potężne, że śmierć przezwyciężają, że żyją i obcują między nami (There are people and there are human labours so mighty and so potent, that they conquer death, that they live and commune among us), words spoken by Józef Piłsudski at the reburial of Juliusz Słowacki, a great Polish poet.

Konstytucja 3 Maja by Jan Matejko (1891)
Happy birthday to the Polish Constitution of 3 May 1791, aka "if you're going to innovate democracy, go big or go home".
(Spoiler: they couldn't go home, since the 'go big' part was so naughty that mom, dad and dad put 'home' on the top shelf until the Polish people had sat in the corner for a while* and thought about what they'd done.)

Books about Napoleonic era (and Polish history) - 3
Good day, dear all, and let me share with you some books I've read recently.
And because today is the birthday of Tadeusz Kościuszko I'll start with a biography of him The Peasant Prince, by the American historian Alex Storozynski:

2. One more position about the Polish history, in English, I'd like to recommend you is Richard Butterwick's The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, 1733–1795: Light and Flame, dedicated to the reigns of Polish-Lithuanian two last kings, Augustus III Wettin and Stanisław August Poniatowski:

From the topic of Polish history let's switch to the French one.
3. One more addition to my collection of Talleyrand's biographies was this one, written by Robin Harris:

4-5. Then, there were two books about Napoleon's private life, by Octave Aubry and Sigrid-Maria Größing:

6-7. A study on the topic of French revolutionary and imperial generals, by Georges Six, and George Nafziger's Imperial Bayonets. (These were books with lots of military details, so I can't say I've enjoyed them thoroughly, rather not belonging to their target audience))

8. And this is a book I really liked, The anatomy of Glory by Henry Lachouque! And though its subtitle (Napoleon and his Guards) kinda states the book will be focused on the Imperial Guards, in fact its topics turned out much more wider, including information on Napoleon himself, France and even some details of the usual life of that times:

9. The book majority of you have already read, The Iron Marshal, a biography of Louis Nicolas Davout by John Gallaher:

10-11. And the last but not the least - two books on Murat. The first is a book by the French historian Jean Tulard and the second is an impressive work of Sarah Hammel @joachimnapoleon.

Thanks a lot, Sarah, for letting as see Joachim Murat through his letters, from his own point of view!
