Aether Eyes — Alien Default Replacements and Contacts (Face Paint)
Thank you so much to everyone who provided feedback while I worked on these eyes! In the end I arrived at something I'm pretty happy with. The swirl texture is inspired by coronal mass ejections and stellar magnetic fields.
It's available in 2 versions: Aether-Star has cute little stars for catchlights, whereas Aether-Chor uses the same catchlights as my Petrichor Eyes. Only install one version in your game at a time!
Details:
Default replacement files require the "Get To Work" Expansion to work
Brand New Hand Painted Texture
Includes custom swatch thumbnails
No Specular
For Infant-Elder, All Genders
Should be tagged identically to EA eyes for genetics
Contacts Version: — Base Game Compatible (BGC) — Located in the Face Paint category — Includes both catchlight textures — Also includes a red swatch not found in the default replacements — Custom thumbnail — Disabled for random
[Downloads, unedited in-game swatch examples, and more info under the cut.]
Downloads:
NOTICE: Choose only one Default file for your game! Either the Aether-Star OR the Aether-Chor version. Having both packages in your mods folder will cause them to conflict and not work properly.
Aether-Star Swatches:

With cute little star catchlights, inspired by a suggestion from @arsenicandtealeaves!
Aether-Chor Swatches:
Tumblr media
With regular catchlights matching the ones used in my Petrichor Eyes.
- DOWNLOAD: SimFileShare (ad-free) | Alt: GD, DB -
Here’s a 100% resolution example of the base texture:

Let me know if you spot any issues, and tag me if you use them in your game! I'd love to see. 🥰
(Many thanks to @miikocc for the bokeh textures used in the main preview image. <3)

✨ dancing lights and prestidigitation ✨ fantine meets the faerie dragons!
Tumblr media
we found a secret house (just like in The Phantom of the Opera!) with a secret garden (just like in The Secret Garden!) and fantine met some new fae friends and started a dance party! (just like in... pretty much every musical tbh)
fantine has a running bit of comparing everything to musical theatre — even calling all architectural details "set design", all items "props", and all fashion "costumes" — bc that's faer point of reference for everything, having grown up in a commune dedicated specifically to musical theatre (and spying, but that's lore for another post)
image description in alt text and under the cut!
this illustration was first posted on ko-fi! thank you to my ko-fi supporters, the minamahal: all my love to ate emily, ate rachel, and jo. you can leave a tip or become a recurring supporter at ko-fi.com/henriediosa.
id: a digital illustration in a bright, sketchy style, of fantine in a garden casting sparkles into the air while two baby faerie dragons swirl above faer. the picture is drawn from above, looking down. the garden has a stone floor and rows of long wooden planter boxes. fantine is a fairy with brown hair up in pigtails, wearing a red half-cape and a green dress. faer arms are outstretched and fae is smiling wide. the faerie dragons are bright red with little white spikes down their spines and butterfly wings in yellow and orange. their dancing lights are warm, soft circles of bokeh, while fantine's sparkles are shaped like four-pointed stars and are cyan, magenta, and yellow. id ends.

Temper, part 2 (FFXIV Write: Day 3)
continuation and last instalment of Xavery crafting their new scythe! It gets a name!! finally!!
“Oy! Don’ look so worried, kid! I’m here with ya, plus yous seem to have a knack for this sort o’ thing,” Grenoldt assured.
Xavery sighed. “Yeah, we’re in this together. I don’t really have a ‘knack’, per se, but I do have goldsmithing experience.”
Grenoldt's eyes widened and his eyebrows shot up his forehead. “Well, why didn’ ya say so sooner, kid?! Now I know I can teach ya more advanced techniques!”
“I just didn’t think to bring it up, heh. It’d be cool to mix other metals in to create finer details. I have a few embellishment ideas in mind, actually!,” Xavery responded.
This piqued the armourer’s curiosity further. He thought his young honorary apprentice to be a novice in the world of metalworking, but this thought couldn’t be further from the truth. Grenoldt paused a moment to study the Viera then shuffled about his workshop, clearing investigating for… something. He stepped over, under and through hammers, aprons, metal prongs, pliers and tongs. His hands milled about through metal storage drawers, shelves and cabinets. Finally, he settled on a bin in a back corner of his workshop.
“Did you… find what you were looking for, Sir?,” Xavery asked with a light chuckle. “Y’know… you could’ve just asked me to help ya.”
Grenoldt was squatting by the box and rose as they spoke. “All good. What I was lookin’ for is right here!” He walked back over to them, now holding a pale baby blue ingot.
“Um… what is it, Sir? I don’t think I’ve ever seen this kind of metal before. I mean, if I have, I’ve never seen it refined like this.”
Grenoldt immediately burst into a smile and laughed. “Ha! Now I actually get to teach ya somethin’, kid! This here is a Prismatic Ingot. It makes yer metal shine an’ glow. Only bring ‘er out fer the mos’ special o’ projects. Yours is definitely one o’ those. Here.” He handed them the ingot.
Xavery delicately accepted the ingot. Their eyes grew wide and their jaw dropped. He had heard of Prismatic ore and ingots before, but had never met an opportunity to use the mineral before.
It’s base colour seemed to be the lightest baby blue mortal eyes could register, tinged with the faintest grey overtone. When exposed to light, the ingot seemed to become the embodiment of said light—it swirled with a soft series of bokeh circles in every colour imaginable. When Xavery turned it over in their hands, they saw a faint pale blue glow emanate from its smooth surface. His fingers caressed the faces of the refined material, mapping its crystalline surface. The ingot itself felt sturdy but, with enough pressure, began to dimple.
“Ah, I see ye’ve figured out a fault in Prismstone,” noted Grenoldt.
Xavery nodded. “Yeah. Other than aesthetics, why would we use this? I’d worry about it being much too malleable.”
“Ye gotta temper it. It’s what brings out the glow and strengthens it,” he explained.
“Right, that makes sense…,” Xavery trailed off before continuing, “how do we get it to glow, though?”
Grenoldt smirked. He had been testing the young goldsmith to see if he’d ask this question. “Glad ye asked! While temperin’, ye gotta infuse it with aether. Makes it glow. Also what makes yer weapon special.”
Xavery nodded and smiled excitedly—a moment too soon, however.
“What’s wrong, kid?,” Grenoldt asked.
“Um… it’s just…,” Xavery trailed off once more.
Grenoldt rolled his eyes. “I ain’t gonna chop off yer head, haha! Just spit ‘er out.”
The Viera pursed his lips, then spoke a moment later. “My aether is corrupt and breaking.”
Grenoldt cocked an eyebrow, sending it skyrocketing to his absent hairline. He’d never worked with anyone in Xavery’s situation, nor did he know how to treat such a diagnosis. The armorer decided to use his existing wisdom and knowledge to formulate a plan.
Grenoldt crossed his arms and smiled. “I mean, aether’s aether, right? I don’ see the difference between yours an’ anyone else’s. Yous got funky healin’ magic you can imbue in yer scythe too, then, I guess.”
Xavery’s somber demeanor was quickly relieved by this statement. They’d never thought of imbuing their scythe with their positive healing magic before! Even if this plan didn’t end up working, it was worth testing.
“Alright. Let’s do it!,” Xavery exclaimed.
The pair smiled and nodded at each other before covering their faces with their welding masks. Grenoldt set to work on tempering the existing scythe head; he used two pairs of long, metal tongs to insert the blade into a furnace, slowly rotating it once flames began to kiss it. A few moments later, he removed it and began to hammer the edge to flatten it—this would ensure a sharp blade. While the scythe head sat on a large, nearby anvil, he placed a High Mythrite and Platinum ingot in a metal canister. Grenoldt lifted the canister using one the pairs of metal tongs and placed that in a furnace, as well.
Once the metals had sufficiently melted and began to bubble, he removed the canister. The master armorer delicately poured the contents into the custom scythe head mould he had crafted for Xavery. He quickly used his tongs to lift the scythe head and dip both flat faces into the melted metal. This would strengthen the blade and offer a metallic, versus crystalline, finish. He used the same process to craft the planned additional pieces that would adorn the scythe head. The Bluespirit was a necessary base, however, as it would conduct aether more easily, thus allowing a more seamless rehoming experience for Xavery’s voidsent.
While Grenoldt worked on finishing the overall construction of the scythe head, Xavery worked on crafting finer details using molds Grenoldt had available. They focused on filigree that would fit the aesthetic of the finished product—he was excited to finally use his goldsmithing skills on the First! As Grenoldt finished up, they moved over to their honorary mentor.
“I’d like the glow to be on the edges. Can we make that happen?,” they asked him.
“Oy! ‘Course, kid! Let’s just heat ‘er up some more, then yous can pour,” Grenoldt said just before gesturing to the inner edge of the scythe head mold, “yer Prismstone stuff right ‘ere!”
Xavery’s smile threatened to escape their welding mask. “Gotcha! Let’s do it!”
Grenoldt set to work on heating up the main piece as Xavery heated up the Prismatic Ingot. Once they were both finished, Xavery delicately poured their canister’s contents into the mold in the prescribed locations; Grenoldt, immediately repeated his previous steps. As Grenoldt was dipping the blade back into the mold, Xavery hovered his hand over the process and focussed on transferring his aether and healing magic into the blade. Once both parties finished, Xavery spoke up.
“M–May I?,” they asked him, gesturing to the tongs he was holding.
“Of course, kid!,” Grenoldt exclaimed, “Here ya go!”
Xavery nodded and accepted the metal tongs. They collected their scythe head using the tools and walked towards a large water basin Grenoldt had in his workshop. As this was transpiring, Grenoldt worked quickly to finish his previous work on the staff portion of the scythe.
The pair reconvened, poured metal in the appropriate places to ensure every piece was secured.
“So, whaddya think?,” Grenoldt asked.
Xavery lifted their welding mask and held their new scythe, jaw firmly on the floor. It wasn’t glowing just yet, however.
“Try sheathin’ an’ unsheathin’,” explained Grenoldt, “I’ve heard thas’ how it works.”
The honorary apprentice did as instructed. Sure enough, the scythe folded into itself and then released as expected, now emanating a beautiful, soft, pale blue glow.
“It’s… perfect.”
“All you, kid. I was jus’ here to help.”
“Thank you, Grenoldt. I can’t… I can’t say that enough,” Xavery chuckled.
“Ah, don’ mention ‘er. I ‘preciate it, though. Say, what’re yous gonna name ‘er?”
Xavery paused a moment before being struck with inspiration. “The Sickle of the Round.”
Grenoldt was sufficiently perplexed. “Ha! I dun’ know why yous would pick a name like that, but if it works for ye, it works for me.”
Xavery doffed his apron and gloves as he spoke. “There’s someone back on The Source I had to… had a… hm…”
“Squabble?”
“Yeah, let’s go with that.” He strapped the scythe to his back and stood in the exit doorway. “It was a pretty big deal for me. This scythe represents the city that ‘squabble’ took place in—monotone and devoid of colour, yet strong and always shining.”
“Thas a lovely sentiment. Yer a good kid, Xavery. Stay good.”
Xavery nodded, gave a two-finger salute and left with his new scythe in tow.

Beautiful Bokeh Swirls! Canon RF 135mm F1.8 L IS USM First Impressions
Beautiful Bokeh Swirls! Canon RF 135mm F1.8 L IS USM First Impressions – There wasn't anything that prepared me for seeing the Canon RF 135mm f1.8 L IS USM. Honestly, it's big. Not only that, but Canon has really outdone themselves here and innovated. It's providing smooth, circular bokeh that looks gorgeous. Additionally, they're packing image stabilization into this lens too. What's more, it focuses to just over two feet away and will cost around what Sony's does. We got to play with it at the Canon offices. Take a look! (Read More...) ≠ promoted by #NewCanonInfo
