Finally got a chance to check out the stunning Modern Velvets show at @artinstitutechi ! This panel by Mathevon and Bouchard (1860/80) is an example of silk and cotton twill weave with supplementary cut pile warps. Mostly I want to rub my face all over it but don't worry, I know better. I think this band is destined to be my *learning* and *experimenting* band. Take the X at the top and the X at the bottom of this picture. I definitely like the top one better (and one friend of mine already chimed in who likes the bottom one more). This one has a story! I took my first 3-day intensive from @abbysyarns in April 2017. I measured out this warp on day three, fully intending to remember what to do and weave it at home. I watch this technique AGAIN, really closely, at my *fourth* intensive in August 2019. Still hadn't tried to weave it. Now, July 2020, I realized it's been my "BUT I HAVE FEAR" technique and it was time to face it. Wouldn't you know when I measured the warp in 2017, I made "nine pairs." Are there ANY 9-PAIR SAMPLE PHOTOS in my books? Of course not. 5-pairs, 7-pairs, 11-pairs, 13-pairs, 15-pairs. No 9s. Time to make some extrapolating guesses. Also, wait how do I weave this?
