"INVISIBLE"
Gritted teeth, flake off gunmetal- flesh past tongue and a red hot barrel, same as strip, or spiral, or clamp or bag or- I should've known there was no stepping back.
No bell unrung, no sense forgotten- So I'll keep it, use it, held against me as I've always done, this gun to temple and I, the ammunition: a victim in ecstasy. "Why can't we look the other way?" "...Too far gone."- all these lines read, re-read lord please but this anything, anything but this medicine so saccharine- cut to point and straight to, like a fist reeled back too far and long after spoken: "She said stop!", Cock and fire, cut to nothing much the point of this is "Too far", this love and lust, this heart and lung as pain or god flows freely, like blood and pain your ink a ghost of injury: second to last cylinder fires, nothing under the hood- gently worn through overuse, left sputtering- straining in the aftermath.
This is the supernormal made normal, exaggerated, stared to the mirror Infatuated, but not the thing you want- What's left then? Back to the word, the single slip forever and all falling to naught, but a bite and whole world crashes down, allegory for a suicide or punishment, funny how it ends- "Feeling Funny" for so long, what's the caption say this time? Looking for something new?
Best guess is that you never sink your teeth into- this, the paranoia, instant death damnation mirrored, by face in crowd so real in room dotted by all the elders, picture perfect pictures and the colors staining red, far to the right now and for you, and people like it's back to being dead.

10 Goals for 2023
9 years of foolishly posting my annual personal goals. A look back at 2022 is here: https://at.tumblr.com/jimkleban/my-2022-in-review/muu9t9hu9fkh
Tumblr media
Themes for 2023
The world is changing quickly with polarization, evolving norms, war in Europe, inflation, tech layoffs, and a looming recession. These are also very exciting times especially with what has been made possible by advances in generative AI. This year finds me happy to pour my heart into my work and looking forward to explore more of the world.
“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” -Ferris Bueller
10 Goals for 2023
1) Crush it as Head of AI at Supernormal
A new year finds me in a new role running AI at a startup called Supernormal. Supernormal is an AI-powered meeting assistant that automatically gives you detailed notes after your meeting. The generative AI space is on fire for now, and for a product like this it's a race to win. I'm excited for this role as a career step. It's a good fit for my background and skills, the team is great, and I'm finding in really fun to work at a startup. My goal for 2023 is to hire an AI team and deliver a great product.
2) Follow the muse with Infeather.
We are born to create. What we make are expressions of ourselves and sometimes in creating there is a sense of something calling us forward. A muse, if you allow it to be. Over the last year I've been building an AI-powered reader called Infeather. By crawling twitter and other sources it finds high quality articles for people to read on followed topics. My dream is for this project is to grow it further into something people can use day-to-day. The recommendations can expand beyond linked articles to include videos, forum threads, and posts. The goal this year is to keep going, following the muse, and make the reader better and grow the number of users.
3) Live abroad with the family.
In 2019, Elizabeth and I took the girls (7 and 4) on a year of travel where we stayed in Bali and Australia. We want to do something like this again before our kids grow up. I'm not sure if the timing for traveling again is right this year given our work, health, and family commitments, but ideally we'd set up somewhere in a new country sometime this year. We would find schools for the girls, work remotely, and spend our free time exploring.
Tumblr media
4) Respark the romance with Elizabeth.
My wife Elizabeth and I have known each other for more than twenty years, and we have been married for over thirteen. It's not always easy to find good, quality time for one another given our full time jobs and parenting duties. And yet, it's the relationships that matter most in life. My goal this year is to do ten amazing things together with my partner.
5) Develop the art of long term friendships.
One of the key predictors of long term happiness through life apparently is the presence of long term relationships. It can be hard to prioritize friendship when you a busy life with family and work takes up time and energy. Yet, it pays off in the end. I think there is a real art in making friends, and maybe it's mostly a matter of making oneself available. I want this year to be one for friendships, new and old.
6) Build 3 new AI apps as experiments.
I'm intrigued by what is possible with AI and it's never been easier to wire ideas up quickly. This year I have the goal to write three new (mini) apps. The ones I have in mind at the start of the year are a spoken language practice chat bot (using Whisper) for my attempt at learning French, a personal health assistant that helps build positive habits, and an oracle/therapy bot that helps you  reflect about what is happening in your life.
Tumblr media
7) Get a couple of home improvement projects done.
Out of all of the things that I like to do, spending on home improvement is not one of them. As such, the house is in a bit of disrepair and there are a couple of things we want to make better. The goal is to land at least two of these house projects (even if it's just scheduling and coordinating contractor work) before we go abroad. This could be new upstairs bathroom fixture, a shed in backyard, and repairing the deck. I think these things can be fun and rewarding.
8) Get into the mountains.
The best part of the Pacific Northwest is probably the nearby mountain ranges with the Cascades  and the Olympics. These are wonderful places to explore and spending time in the mountains is also a great way to stay in shape, get tough. I try to have a physical goal each year, and this year I'll be working on adding strength exercises to my routine, but I think an even better goal will be to spend more substantial times in the mountains - getting out on a day trip at least twice a month.
9) Give up added sugar and fast food.
Health matters more as you grow older and I don't think you can keep bouncing back from treating your body poorly. This includes the diet. I've been blessed with a fast metabolism and I'm physically active, so I haven't had a reason to avoid eating poor food. I've done well in the past with giving up alcohol, but at times the cravings have just transferred to donuts and cheeseburgers. I feel much better when I don't eat these things. The goal this year is to give up added sugar, save for the occasional shared desert, and stop ordering fast food.
10) Break the phone addiction.
The iPhone was released in 2007 and changed the world. Like television, we both benefit and suffer from the adoption of the omnipresent computer in our pocket. The device and its apps are designed to be addictive, fueling profit, in ways television never was able to be. On the other hand, we also gain from having these tools. We own our phones and how we use them, not the opposite way around. The goal for 2023 is to change how I use mobile phone, through a mixture of behaviors, settings, and apps so I can demonstrably claim my phone serves me.
Tumblr media
Closing
2023 has energy, legs to it. I feel happy, empowered. A lot is going to change quickly, so buckle up and take the ride. Here’s to what comes.

Wearable AI Market Size, Share, Industry Report, Revenue Trends and Growth Drivers – 2029
The wearable AI (artificial intelligence) market was valued at USD 62.7 billion in 2024 and is estimated to reach USD 138.5 billion by 2029, registering a CAGR of 17.2% during the forecast period.
The growth of the wearable AI market is driven by seamless integration with smartphones and Internet of Things (IoT), growing awareness regarding health and fitness among general population and technological advancements in wearables.
Drivers: Growing awareness regarding health and fitness among general population and technological advancements in wearables
The surging interest in monitoring and managing personal health and well-being is a major driver for the wearable AI market. Growing emphasis on fitness, spurred by the rising incidence of chronic diseases and the aging population, has compelled people to seek tools to monitor and improve their health. Wearable AI devices, such as smartwatches and fitness trackers, are convenient solutions for tracking steps, heart rate, sleep quality, etc. This data empowers individuals to make informed choices about their activities, sleep patterns, and overall health. Wearable AI devices also incorporate gamification elements and social features such as rewards and challenges to engage users and motivate them to stay active and healthy.
Restraint: Limited battery life
Limited battery life is a major restraint in the growth of the wearable AI market, affecting device functionality and user experience. Despite technological advancements, many wearable devices do not offer extended battery life while maintaining optimal performance. Short battery life can disrupt users’ daily routines, requiring frequent recharging and limiting the device’s usability, especially during extended outdoor activities or travel.
Opportunities: Customization and personalization features
Customization and personalization in wearable AI devices are allowing manufacturers to cater to diverse consumer preferences and needs. With customizable features such as personalized fitness plans, adaptive interfaces, and adjustable settings, wearable AI devices can enhance user engagement and experience. For instance, Fitbit’s mobile app allows users to set personalized goals, track progress, and get tailored insights based on their activity levels, sleep patterns, and health goals. Similarly, the Apple Watch and health app offer personalized health and fitness features. Users can set activity goals, track workouts, monitor heart rate, and receive personalized coaching based on their activity history and fitness level. This customization meets individual user’s needs and fosters a deeper sense of ownership and investment in the device.
Challenge: Market saturation and intense competition
With the proliferation of wearable devices in recent years, the number of market players has surged, making it challenging for newcomers to establish a foothold. The saturation amplifies the importance of differentiation and innovation for emerging companies attempting to stand out amidst a large pool of market players. For new entrants, capturing consumer attention demands cutting-edge technology and a keen understanding of evolving user needs and preferences.

HUMAN DEVOLUTION by Michael A Cremo Audio book part 5
HUMAN DEVOLUTION by Michael A  Cremo Audio book part 5 Good evening dear audio books lovers. "If we did not evolve from apes, then where did we come from?" Human Devolution is Michael Cremo's definitive answer to this question. In his characteristic style of meticulous documentation and research, Cremo offers a fresh and scientifically based perspective on human origins, with an emphasis on state-of-the-art consciousness studies. Take a fascinating tour through incredible enigmas of time and space, ranging from Precambrian microfossils to black holes to the planets of demigods, and discover how we devolved from pure consciousness to this earthly realm. 2. Make clear the nature of the soul of man and its systemic and cosmic relationships. This will include its group relationship as a preliminary step. 3. Demonstrate the relations between the self and the sheaths which that self may use, and thus clarify thought as to the constitution of man. 4. Elucidate the problem of supernormal powers and give the rules for their safe and useful development. Through these underlying postulates runs the theme of energy, of the one informing life as a Centre of energy, pervading and uniting all within the divine flow. Man is essentially and inherently divine; and the soul, the Centre of consciousness, the result of the pervasive union of Spirit with matter, is the means whereby man evolves a consciousness of divinity and unity, redeems the gross matter of his vehicles and liberates the pure flame of life energy from the limitation of form. The soul is the vital link, therefore, between God and man. The book closes with a rousing call to the soul in all aspirants: "I close with an appeal to all who read these instructions, to rally their forces, to renew their vows of dedication to the service of humanity, to subordinate their own ideas and wishes to the group good, to take their eyes off themselves and fix them anew upon the vision, . . . Let all students make up their minds in this day of emergency and of opportunity to sacrifice all they have to the helping of humanity. . . . I call upon all of you to join the strenuous efforts of the Great Ones." Thank you for listening and your support! #HumanDevolution, #MichaelACremo, #Audiobook, #Freeaudiobook, #Bestfreeaudiolibrary, #Devolutiontheory, #Humanevolution, #Alternativeperspective, #Consciousness, #Culture, #Civilization, #Scientifictheories,

Supernormal Step Chapters 3 and 4 Reread
This post is part of a series in which I comment on each chapter of Supernormal Step by M Lee Lunsford.  Spoilers follow!
A lot happens in chapter 3!  Fiona gives us the first hints about what kind of person her father was, and the (non-)relationship she has with her mother.  She also gives us a monologue about what she knows about the history of the magic world.  Artwise Lunsford's style seems to be changing rather quickly (for the better, IMO).  We get our first look at Rascal the restaurant owner, whose name I had forgotten even though I remembered his appearance and character.  We also learn, without being told why, that Fiona doesn't drink (I suspect it is due to something her father said).
This chapter is also the first time we are told that confidence is the key to magic in the SNSverse.  Supposedly something more than confidence is needed for the most powerful magic, but that information is contradicted by what we find out in part two IIRC.  Whether this discrepancy is because the author changed their mind, or because Myrinne has more complete knowledge of how magic works than Cecilia.
And then we cut back to Jim and Van, and Jim drops the bombshell that he knew Fiona's father.  Van deduces that Jim summoned Fiona in a failed attempt to summon Jackson, but Van's deduction is seemingly contradicted by the fact that Jim's magic is red, and Fiona was pulled in by a purple portal.
Then we get to the real meat of this chapter: the time when Fiona transitions from a down-on-her-luck homeless person working a minimum wage job into a superhero.  It takes a giant laser-eyed wolf to get her into hero mode.  Oh, and there's an enigmatic appearance from Kite.
Chapter 4 gives us our first look at Britta, Elvina's "sister," and also our first real taste of Em's personality.  There's also a little bit of Hall/Fiona shipteasing which I missed my first time through the series, and I only noticed it now because the author pointed it out as an aborted storyline during the Twitch stream in 2018.  And Kite is still enigmatic.
But the real heart of chapter four is Cecilia introducing Fiona to the Nameless, shortly after Henderson offered her a job with him.  Fiona is no longer just a local super hero: her talent is sought after by both the most powerful man in the world, and the rebellion against the most powerful man in the world.  Oh, and we learn about Judgement Magic, and get another enigmatic hint about Hal and Eva's origins.
All in all, the author's storytelling and worldbuilding progressed a lot in comparison to the first two chapters

ARO CHARACTERS! GET YOUR ARO WEBCOMIC CHARACTERS HERE!
Been reading some webcomics with aro characters from this list of free aro and ace fiction and wanted to make a post about some of the ones that I happened to enjoy. This isn’t meant to be a comprehensive review of each one, just some of my impressions and notes that might be useful for folks looking for stories with aro characters. Nothing is one-size-fits-all, so please do take from this post whatever is useful to you, and leave the rest be in peace.
Notes up here will only be mild spoilers, whether the comic is complete/ongoing/ambiguously left at a stopping point, a general sense of the plot/genre, more character specifics, including how the character identifies, and some notes on other characters and the prevalence of romance in the plot. More significant further details for some of the comics (where I had trouble summarizing aspects that I found important/interesting without more significant spoilers) on the aro character/how aromanticism shows up in the comic, and the ending, if applicable, are under a cut at the end. I’ve grouped these by whether the character is the protagonist or part of the main cast (I haven’t included any comics where the aro character is tertiary/minor), and whether the word aro/aromantic is used in text - for all but one of the five, it is, and for the fifth it is as clearly stated in-text as it can be without using the word. (no ‘we only know they’re aro by wog’ comics in this particular bunch) Aro Protagonist, the word Aro/Aromantic is used in the text
SUPERNORMAL STEP
Complete!
The main character of Supernormal Step, Fiona Dae, is aromantic and asexual, and HOLY TOLEDO I LOVE HER SO MUCH. She’s a mess who’s bad with people but keeps trying and is a big music nerd and is a BRICK HOUSE and y’all, I love her a lot.
Tumblr media
The story begins with Fiona being pulled into a parallel world with magic. Shenanigans, mayhem, and adventures ensue as she gets pulled into training her own magic powers, hero-ing, politics, and more... This webcomic had a nine year run, so there’s a lot to dig into!
In terms of romance, two different characters are romantically interested in Fiona at one point or another. For the first one, the only plot point that leads to is another character getting jealous of the apparent interest in Fiona, and after that is resolved, there isn’t really further mention of it. For the second one, it’s a case where the character in question is a good friend of Fiona’s, and in reaction to finding out about her crush is the first time Fiona says she’s asexual and aromantic on panel. That friendship goes on to have more ongoing plot significance.  Personally, the way that plot point happened and the ongoing resolution not only made me feel very seen in my own fears as an aromantic person, but the resolution made me very, very happy. I flailed about it a bit over here. More deets on this under the cut.
Apart from that, there isn’t a huge amount of significant romance in the comic. There’s two past romantic relationships between other characters that each are relevant to their own plot point, but not too much beyond that (I forgot about one of them for a minute, which either goes to show that it’s not that big a deal or that I zoned out hard on that romance). Two women in the ensemble cast have a fun and casual relationship in the second part, and that’s the most significant romanticish relationship that stood out to me. In terms of sexual relationships, one of the male characters in the main ‘trio’ at the beginning is implied to hook up with women frequently early on, and later in the series shown waking up in bed with women afterwards (no nudity, but probably don’t read it in your workplace).
As a webcomic that ran for nine years, it improved a great deal over its run. I will admit the first time this was recced to me I got a few pages in to the first chapter and was so offput by the initial art style and design that I didn’t continue. Having come back to it now, I can say it was worth the read. I recommend starting by reading Encore, a redraw/rewrite of the first chapter that the creator did 6 years into the comics run, when it was moving into part 2. This gives you a nice idea of where the art and design are going to get to. There’s a recap at the end of that such that new readers are meant to be able to go directly into Part 2, I did that initially but I don’t recommend it, there’s so much that happens in the first six years of the run that it’s impossible to capture it in a relatively short recap, and i was a bit lost. More importantly, the part 1 did end up being really worth the read for me once it got going, and it has some of the Aro Content that resonated the most with me. So I’d follow Encore with the original chapter 2, and read from there, and just trust that the design/costume design and art will get better. (The design and art evolution is something the comic itself even lampshades later on.) Here’s what the author has to say about deciding where to start reading.
Start reading at Encore! ---
STARHAMMER
Ongoing!
The main character of Starhammer, Evelyn ‘Evey’ Li, is Aromantic and Asexual, specifically referring to herself as AceAro. I'm really really fond of her so far, she’s a high school student in way over her head and a bit of a mess, and she really needs a hug, imho.
Tumblr media
(Cover, featuring Evey’s best friend, Izzy Baldwin, who is very enthusiastic about superheroes)
The story takes place in a world where superpowers have been around since the 80′s, and there’s a US gov’t department managing advanced humans, including a bureau managing superheroes and tracking down supervillains. There’s a history of superheroes and other extra-normal events that is slowly revealed. Evey finds herself with the STARHAMMER, a superweapon that belonged to another hero, but can’t seem to get it to go away, or give it back, so she slowly has to learn how to use it for good. The story is told nonlinearly, with intercuts between events as they happened and Evie being interviewed by the bureau after an Incident which we have just come to in the comic’s run so far. If you like the concept of superheroes with history and bureacracy, and enjoy nonlinear storytelling, and high school shenanigans, this might be for you. I caught up with it over the course of an afternoon, ymmv, but it wasn’t too daunting of read for me to catch up, while still having plenty of story already told and world built.
Evey’s best friend knows she’s Acearo, it hasn’t yet been established who else, if anyone, she’s out to. There’s one character who has romantic interest in Evey and there are various assumptions made about their interactions - more on that under the cut. As I mentioned, the story is still ongoing, so it’s not entirely clear how everything’s going to play out. There isn’t really much other romance that I can think of - Evey’s mom and dad, mentioned other high school relationships I think, but nothing really focal. Read HERE!

Aro Secondary Character/Ensemble Cast Member, the word Aro/Aromantic is used in text.
IGNITION ZERO
Complete!
Martin Smith is aromantic and heterosexual! He is the fourth of the quartet of main characters in Ignition Zero. The protagonist, Robbie Finch, and deuteragonist, Orson Kurt, are both ace. Martin’s best friend, Neve, is, in their own words, “a genderfluid, pansexual, polyamorous Wiccan drag queen”
Tumblr media
Martin on the left, Neve on the right
It’s hard to talk about Martin too much without spoilers, but suffice it to say that I absolutely love him and his arc and his friendship with Neve so so much. He starts out as the more mysterious of the friends, but indisputably part of the group, and an important activist in his work on campus.
The story starts with Robbie Finch moving to town for college and finally meeting-irl his internet friend of four years, Orson Kurt. This brings Robbie in to the adventures of Orson and his friends Martin and Neve as they interact with the elements of the fae in their town, and the land spirit that they’ve befriended, and fight an evil spirit that might be more than meets the eye. No spoilers for the ending up here, but I found it very satisfying.
Part of the main story is Orson and Robbie realizing they like each other romantically, and getting together around the end of the story. As these things go, I found it pretty lowkey - there’s not a whole lot of pining or drama, and most of what goes on is about their friendship - but it is definitely focal, so there’s that to know. There's another background romantic relationship with tertiary characters, but it’s not particularly significant - I had forgotten about it until I checked the cast list. There’s one scene with a character posing nude for a live drawing class, so another one probably not to read in your work place. I read it over the course of an afternoon/evening, there’s a good, satisfying story and an approachable read, imho. Read HERE!
---
QUESTABLES
Complete!
Arin Longspire is an aromantic genderfluid (at the start of the comic Arin’s using he pronouns, later Arin uses she pronouns, I’ll use he pronouns for Arin here) half elf rogue in a DnD themed adventure comic.
Tumblr media
He and his partner are the first compatriots who join our main character Robin, a gay dwarven cleric/monk who’s on a quest to find a famous bard who can save her hometown. Arin is a fun character! He and his partner Rose, an ace man initially of indeterminate species due to his face-covering helmet, are basically-a-QPR, and refer to each other as boyfriends and soulmates. Tbh, that particular aspect of their relationship wasn’t exactly what I personally was looking for at this particular moment for aro stories, but maybe it’s your jam! And I do like the two of them quite a lot, I can see a lot of my own relationships with my closest friends in their affection and cuddliness, and that’s very nice to see. Their relationship shows up fairly early, and I think new readers will be able to tell pretty quickly if it’s your jam or not. The rest of Arin’s relationships through the series are friendship and found family with the rest of the adventuring party.
Romance wise, the main character, Robin, crushes on a party member who arrives later, and the two of them flirt and have various romantic moments - it doesn’t dominate the plot, but it’s definitely a recurring thing. I think there are some other relationships mentioned, but nothing that really stood out to me.
The story follows Robin and the party she accumulates on her quest! There’s humor, DnD jokes, shenanigans, and found family feels. Note, the story is complete, but it ends in a place that seems set up for a continuation/a new quest, such that I didn’t realize it wasn’t ongoing until I looked at the author’s comments, so just be aware of that! I read it in the course of an afternoon, YMMV but it found it to be a relatively quick and fun read!
Read HERE!

Aro Secondary Character/Ensemble Cast Member, the word Aro/Aromantic not used in text, but character’s aromanticism is clear in the text
TRAVELOGUE
Complete??
Emerere is an implied-to-be aro character in this soft fantasy travelogue comic. I’ll let the main character Nana introduce him:
Tumblr media
(This cap is from the second page of the comic, so I don’t consider it spoilery) Nana and Emerere, with Adi and Adi’s goat Princess, are friends and traveling companions. This is a relatively short, soft, charming ‘fantasy diary’ comic. This is about all that Emerere’s aromanticism comes up, and iirc there’s no romance in the comic. I say ‘Complete??’ because the comic hasn’t, as far as I can tell, updated in several years, but the last page isn’t an obvious ‘end’ page. The comic is delightful and charming, if you’re looking for a short, soft fantasy read, it’s worth checking out! Read HERE!
---
---
More details for Supernormal Step, Starhammer, and Ignition Zero under the cut, if you want to know more about how aromanticism shows up in each of those comics, and more details on their endings, and don’t mind more significant spoilers, click away!
SUPERNORMAL STEP
Some screencaps of Fiona talking about being Aro, and significant plotlines that relate to her being Aro, and some notes on how the story ends. Many spoilers ahoy!
From the brief plot point where another (antagonist) character becomes jealous of her love interest’s apparent interest in Fiona:
Tumblr media
Fiona ‘cool motive still (attempted) murder’ Dae After one of Fiona’s friends goes in for the kiss and then bails when she realizes Fiona isn’t interested -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Excuse me while I Cry and feel Understood in my fears
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Talking it through
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this IS a touching moment. Friendship status: Good Hugs Another instance where Fiona being AroAce comes up is a phone call with her mom, late in the series, where only her being Ace is mentioned, and she’s arguing with her mom about her mom saying that she (Fiona) is gay when her mom knows she’s ace. Yeah. Oof. But Fiona never has to ‘reconcile’ with her mom or anything in the story, and it only really comes up for those few panels
And the ending is good! [Major spoilers ahead] Fiona saves the worlds, and while things were left still in a complicated and difficult place, it was with everyone having the hope that they could fix things, and make it worth together. And by the end Fiona has grown as a person, and gone from feeling like she has to be alone to getting to a place where she works to trust her friends and found family, and values herself and them.

It ends with her in her RV, but she’s not just on the road alone anymore, (it’s implied that) she’s on her way back to where most of her found family is gathered.

STARHAMMER
How Evey being AceAro comes up:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not to be a huge stick in the mud - but I did say these were going to be my own impressions - I definitely get uncomfortable with the kind of attitude that Izzy is portrayed with here, the ‘ooh pity the poor person who wanted to date someone who’s aroace/someone who isn’t interested for any reason’ and the idea that the onus is on the person who isn’t interested romantically to clearly convey that they aren’t interested upfront, rather than on the person who is interested romantically to clearly convey that they are interested romantically, or to be comfortable with the fact that the other person might not feel the same way about the time they’re spending together. And unlike with Supernormal Step, I don’t have the later-arc panels where they talk this through, it’s an ongoing comic, they might work this specific thing out, or they might not.
But this is a story, not a didactic guide to interpersonal relationships, and this is very much in line with these characters throughout being written as people who sometimes say dumb things sometimes or the wrong thing at the wrong time - they’re meant to be people, for crying out loud, they’re high schoolers. So this is meant as just a heads up, as I’m talking about how characters being aro shows up in these comics.
Evey and Raf, later, after Raf and his friends have been assholes about Izzy and Evey decided to leave because of that.
Tumblr media
A couple other characters in this friend group mockingly refer to Evey as Raf’s ‘girlfriend’ at a couple points iirc, though that’s obviously not the case.
Also, this is how Raf shows up in the cast guide:
Tumblr media
‘Can’t take a hint’ It turns out that Raf was working for The Bad Guys, along with most of his friends, who were trying to recruit Evey. It seems like that might be the endpoint to this particular subplot, but, like I said, ongoing, unclear. But like. It seems pretty darn clear in the narrative who the asshole is here, and it’s not Evey.

IGNITION ZERO
BIG SPOILERS
so Martin’s mother is human, his father is fae, and that makes him a part of the faerie courts and immortal.  He’s known since middle school, but he hasn’t told his friends until it comes out late in the series. Neve is upset that Martin’s kept this from them, and it takes some time to work through that. Them reconciling is when Martin being aro is first discussed.
Tumblr media
Talking things through while trying on outfits I like the fact that Martin gets to make the point that not being in romantic relationships with humans as an immortal doesn’t mean he won’t be losing loved ones, because there are different kinds of love, and Neve gets that.  (Also, just to be clear, it’s never suggested that Martin being aro is ‘because’ he’s not 100% human-human, just in case that’s a concern of anyone’s)
Tumblr media
I love this moment... a lot.... extremely good and bonus!
Tumblr media
They end up in a QPR! I was so delighted to see ‘queerplatonic’ on the page!!! I’m so happy! Martin and Neve are so good!!! From this hopeful aromantic to y’all, I hope this gets these comics I have enjoyed to some new readers who also enjoy them!
