Reflection
Tbh I hadn't planned on participating but two days in, I figured why not - I wanted to get some writing in and had wanted to practice writing Supercorp anyway.
I thought most of them would be visuals like Day 1: summer and the text messages for Day 19: suit and Day 27: October but I guess the writer genes couldn’t help but shine through lol
Ones that had me cackling or just generally had a ton of fun writing
3: drunk (I've always loved trying to tell a story by inference; plus, I always believed that Lena would've figured out Kara's identity as Supergirl on her own dangit)
5: Orange (this was definitely not what I’d imagined at first for this prompt but once I started, I just couldn’t stop lol - I think the thing that drove me was picturing Alex's face when she realizes what happened)
7: night (in the same vein as 3, I've always loved looking at different "forms" of story - as in, where are places that a story could be told/how might we tell a story without writing a normal narrative? Once my brain went to "night shift," this whole thing just kinda came out and I had way too much fun)
19: Suit (so I was thinking about this fantastic piece of art by PapurrCat and was thinking about what Lena would do to get Kara in something similar and voila, this thing happened lol)
22: skull (I started out really unsure what to do with this prompt, but once I pictured Kara and Lena in a Hogwarts-esque situation and Kara pestering Lena while she was trying to study, I just couldn't stop. I'm still amused that there’s a font called “Rage Italic” lol, I couldn’t not use it for Lena)
27: October (tbh I was quite amazed to learn about all the different holidays/observations!)
29: bonfire (once I settled on the form for this, ideas just kept coming - I actually had to rein myself in because I hadn't put any Supercorp into it and already had over a dozen bullet points in my draft lol)
Ones that took me by surprise
9: fresh (this was part of a larger idea I already had in my head but tbh, I was shy about writing it because of the nsfw nature of it - I was glad that this exercise gave me the kick in the pants to just write it without thinking too hard about it or being too critical - and I rather like what came out of it!)
15: warmth (this one had me emotional as I was writing, actually, I didn't expect to go in this direction until it just started pouring out)
16: sparks (this one spilled out whole cloth and I was surprised that it veered towards action as I'm not very confident in my abilities to write that genre; tbh I'm tempted to flesh this out more into its own fic now)
17: cafe (this was another one that surprisingly came out whole cloth. Tbh I think I could've done better with the voicing - I very rarely write in 2nd POV as it is - but as I was rereading it just now I was like, it's not that bad? lol)
21: broken (I had fully expected to write something angsty or have a visual but this came out of left field; dialogue's not my forte, but I tried)
31: spookycorp (I was on a time crunch with this one and I struggled in figuring out my approach - I had thrown out 3 different openings for 3 completely different fics, and then as I was writing the fourth, I could suddenly see the whole thing, which became this one. I think I mentioned above somewhere that I don't really write action, and I definitely don't write horror, but it was a really nice opportunity to practice and I think it came out decent!)
Ones that I grew to love
10: ice (I've always liked the idea of a third-party observer -especially using bartenders as said observer- mostly because it offers an opportunity to take liberties with watching minute details of character interactions and reactions lol; but I like the idea of folks being inspired by the work Kara and Lena put in to reconcile and rebuild their relationship yknow?)
11: forest (I'd hoped to do a visual fic with the map but it just wasn't coming out the way I wanted, which forced me to write a fic to go along with it. The words came together surprisingly easily, especially the tone - kinda want to explore this AU more!)
14: soaring (this was another existing idea that I had where Lena learns about her magic through experimentation - in my head, she feels safe practicing because she knows Kara and the others will get her out of any unexpectedness that may happen, as is the case in this one. I also enjoyed trying to be subtle about what happened by dropping indirect hints)
20: Kara/24: Lena (another "form" that I've found amusing is the idea of seeing one's answers but not the questions - I ended up doing some planning for these ones, actually! And it was fun to reference other stuff like fics I’ve loved)
25: comfy (this one came out whole cloth and wholly unexpected, and it's probably my favorite of this whole set. Similar to 14, I wanted the situation to make itself known slowly and tried to put myself in young Lena's shoes for a bit, which, honestly, broke my heart a bit. I'm tempted to expand this by having more of an exposition and maybe tweaking the ending conversation as well. All in all, I was really happy with the tone and the emotions here, as well as the concept of "becoming the hero we needed when we were young" with regard to childhood trauma.)
The ones I had the hardest time with or wasn't super happy with were either a) I didn't have a lot of time that day (13: peace, 28: holiday), b) I was stumped with the prompt (26: acorn, 30: spell), or c) I had an idea but couldn't execute it the way I wanted to (8: rain, 12: evening, 18: secret).
That said, proud of myself for getting something out for all 31 prompts! It was motivating to see other folks in the same boat also doing their best, and it was fun to see what everyone came up with.
Overall really enjoyed doing this - thanks again to @kmsdraws for the prompt list and everyone who stopped by to check my stuff out!

Of ladybugs and dandelions
by jtl07
The memory ends as suddenly as it comes, a scalding flash across Lena’s mind.
A touch at her shoulder, soft, cautious. “You okay?”
Lena blinks, catches Kara’s concerned gaze in the mirror. The memory slips out of reach. It leaves her cold momentarily before she’s warmed again by Kara’s hands, Kara’s concern.
“I’m fine,” she breathes.

Supercorptober 2022 Day 25: Comfy
“Comfy?”
Lena takes a moment to consider the question. The room she’s in is unfamiliar, and so is the blanket she’s wrapped in, the sofa she’s sitting on, the books next to her. The woman who asked has a smile that’s as warm as Lena feels, and that’s unfamiliar too.
“Yes,” Lena says finally; she’s used to unfamiliar.
The woman’s smile somehow gets wider. She stands, blonde hair and red cape flowing gently as she turns to another woman with red hair. This woman’s smile is not as wide, and that feels comfy too. “Thank you for the books,” Lena tells her, remembering her manners.
“Did you finish them already?” There’s a little surprise in her voice and Lena feels a moment of panic. Was she not supposed to? Something must show on her face because the woman kneels down and gives her a reassuring smile. “It’s okay,” she says; it reminds Lena of the way people speak to scared kitties. “I should’ve known to bring you more.”
Lena’s not sure what she means by that so she just keeps silent.
“Alex.”
Lena lifts her head at the voice. It comes from a third woman standing across the room. She’s the first one Lena saw when the portal disappeared, before the car had crashed into her, before the woman in the cape had saved her.
Lena likes her long dark hair, but she doesn’t know how to tell her - if she’s allowed to. Of the three of them, she’s spoken the least to Lena, but her eyes are the most familiar. Lena’s not sure why.
The three of them talk for a while. Their voices are low but Lena knows they’re talking about her. She tries to remember what happened, why the portal appeared, why it brought her here, but all she remembers is the garden and following a ladybug as it went from one flower to the next, counting to each spot on its back -
“Lena?”
The red-haired woman’s name is Alex, Lena remembers now. She had told Lena her name when she gave her the books hours ago. She said they were her daughter’s. Lena wonders if Alex’s daughter knows she borrowed them, wonders if she’ll get mad like Lex does sometimes.
“We figured out how to get you back home,” Alex is saying. Lena nods; she knows better than to ask questions, especially when she’s alone. “Before we do though, there’s something we have to do.”
The women are worried, Lena realizes, feeling it heavy in the room. Alex hides it well but she can see it, hear it. Lena shakes her head and curls into the blanket. “Lena, it’ll be all right, I promise -”
“You’ve found Lex’s books on time travel, haven’t you?”
Lena’s head snaps up. “I didn’t -”
The woman with dark hair sits down beside her. She doesn’t smile but her face is soft. “It’s okay. He left them there for you to find.”
Lena doesn’t ask how she knows. But somehow, she believes it.
The woman folds her hands together and rests them on her lap. Lena looks at her differently than the others do. And her eyes are so, so familiar.
“We have to wipe your memory or else it will create a paradox.”
Over the woman’s shoulder, Lena sees the other two women glance at each other. Lena wonders if this was something she was supposed to hear. But she does remember it from Lex’s books. She nods but the woman just keeps looking at her. As if she’s waiting for Lena to say something.
“Will it hurt?” Lena finally asks.
“No,” the woman says, her dark hair shaking side to side with her head. Lena listens as she explains about one of their friends, how it will be safe and painless. She explains about how they’ll send Lena back, how she won’t remember. Lena keeps her eyes on the blanket and nods her head at all the right places. There are bunnies on the blanket. Lena realizes she won’t get to keep it.
“Will I …” Lena stops the words but the dark haired woman heard them, and now is waiting for her to finish. Her fingers clench around the blanket. She whispers: “Will I get in trouble?”
“No.” The answer is immediate. Lena doesn’t know if she can trust it.
Slowly, at the edge of her vision, she sees a hand reaching out. It hovers over her own, then rests to cover her fists. It’s the gentlest touch she’s ever felt.
“You won’t be in trouble because no one will know you were gone. And, Lena, you won’t be in trouble because you didn’t do anything wrong.”
“I must have - I didn’t mean for this to happen -” Lena’s words become choked in a sob and she tries to hold it all back, this isn’t how she’s supposed to act, she’s not supposed to cry, she’s not supposed to be scared -
It isn’t until her tears have stopped that Lena realizes she’s being held. She’s tucked under the woman’s chin and her arms feel so warm. She can hear the woman murmuring into her hair. It reminds her of a lullaby her mother used to sing her, before everything changed. Here in this woman’s arms, it feels like that time - safe, warm - what was it the woman in the cape said? Comfy.
“Do I have to go back?” she asks into the woman’s shirt.
Lena feels her pause, then take a slow, deep breath. She knows what the answer will be.
“Lena, could you look at me please?”
Lena sniffles once, then opens her eyes. Finds herself looking into those familiar eyes once more. So familiar - she gasps. More than familiar.
The woman smiles - proud, amused, relieved. “Figured out who I am, have you?” At Lena’s nod, she gives one of her own. Then her smile fades. Lena forces herself to listen.
“I can’t promise you that it will be easy. What you’ve already been through, that’s only the start, I’m afraid. But you have to believe me when I tell you that things will get better. It will. Don’t let anyone take away that hope in your heart.”
They fall into a hug again, and Lena feels the next words reverberating in her chest through her tears. “You will find the people who love you, the people you were meant to love. I promise.”
Lena holds onto the words as they separate, listens to them echo in her head as they let a man in black into the room. She keeps her eyes locked on her older self, believing, believing, believing -
Lena blinks. She’s in the garden and the sun is high and - oh, there’s a ladybug…
*
Lena’s quiet the rest of the evening, quiet as Kara flies her back to the apartment, quiet as they eat dinner, quiet as they curl up on the couch.
“You know, she barely gave me a second glance.”
Lena looks up, brow furrowed in silent question.
Kara tilts her head and gives her a lopsided smile. “She kept looking at you though. The way I’ve seen people look at me sometimes.” She takes a moment to catch Lena’s eyes. “Like a hero.”
A short breath puffs from Lena’s nose. “Kara, please. She probably just thought I looked familiar.”
“No, I don’t think that’s it.” Kara’s facing her fully now, though Lena’s eyes are trained down into her lap. It reminds Kara of Lena’s younger self, how the child had done the same thing just hours before.
“I think she saw in you the hero she wished she had,” Kara says softly. She reaches out to gently wipe away Lena’s silent tears. “You’re her hero, Lena. You saved her - and not just today. Everyday. Every day you choose the light, every day you choose love.”
Kara wraps Lena into a hug, presses a kiss and her words to her temple: “Thank you, Lena, for never giving up hope.”

Supercorptober Day 25 - Comfy
Kara has never liked the quiet, it always leads her to the darkest depths of her mind, but it doesn't seem to bother her so much when she's in Lena's arms.

Of ladybugs and dandelions
(A companion piece of sorts to day 25: comfy (I and me) from Supercorptober 2022)
---
Sunlight in her hair, in her eyes, grass tickling her skin. Her own name warm in her ears, as warm as the arms and the laughter wrapped around her -
The memory ends as suddenly as it comes, a scalding flash across Lena’s mind in the middle of getting ready for the day. She’s not sure what brought it on but the memory leaves her gasping, her mind grasping for scraps of the garden from her childhood.
She says nothing more than that, but she also says nothing when she feels Kara’s eyes on her a little more than usual as they go about their morning routine. (She wonders if this is how flowers feel, how they always know where the sun is, craving for it on the cloudiest of days.)
It occurs to her later that she’s not quite sure which garden the memory was from. The Luthors had a garden - multiple in fact, and simply called “the grounds” - but something in her knows that the memory was from somewhere deeper still. A hidden spring that hadn’t been stuffed into a box but rather buried down deep, deep enough for Lena to have thought it lost; deep enough to hide until it was safe.
