Asami and I continued to talk some more. “I see you got sucked into a shopping trip as well.” I heard Korra say to Lin. Lin just huffed. “The things we do for love.” Korra said.

Asami laughed at Korra’s comment. “You know I love you very much.” Asami told Korra then gave her a kiss. I felt a slight twinge in my heart. Korra and Asami love each other more than anything and everything they do is out of love and yes I’m jealous. I can’t help it. “We should go to lunch.” Asami said and grabbed my hand. “We should.” I agreed. “I know that’s not a badger mole stuffed animal hanging out your bag.” Korra teased. “Oh hush leave me be.” I said. “Aww that’s so cute, I need to find a polar bear dog stuffed animal.” Asami said. “You should! Asami looked at Korra. “It’ll be our baby.” Asami laughed. I gasped and looked at Lin. “No.” Lin said. “Yes, this badger mole is our baby and we have to figure out a name for her.” I told Lin. Lin sighed. “What restaurant are we eating at? I'm starving over here.” Korra told us. “Oh right umm where do you guys wanna go?” I asked. “We’re going to the noodle shop near my job.” Lin said and grabbed my hand to drag me away. “See you guys there!” I called as Lin dragged me away. Once the bags were put in the backseat we got into the car and I sat in the passenger seat.

“Thank you for taking me shopping.” I said sweetly then kissed her cheek. “You’re welcome hon.” Lin told me as she started up her car. As Lin drove she kept her hand on my thigh, sometimes she drew little circles or just rubbed my thigh. She gave me butterflies and I loved it. Every touch made my heart melt. I laughed. “Then you teach her.” Korra said. “I’m too busy.” Lin said. “I feel like she’d yell at me a lot.” I said. “Oh yeah she definitely will.” Korra said. “Did you figure out a name for your baby?” Asami asked. “No, what do you think I should name her?” I asked. “Name her noodle.” Korra suggested. “No name her tea.” Asami said. I gasped. “I got it! Her name is Detective Tofu Noodle.” I said.

“I love that.” Asami gushed. “Detective?” Lin asked. “Do you have a problem?” I asked. “I’m just confused on how your little badger mole became a detective.” Lin said. “She’s our daughter and she just wants to be like her big brother Mako.” I said. “Stop saying Mako is my son.” Lin sighed. “Ok but he’s called you mom like three times and you didn’t get upset.” Korra said. “Exactly.” I said. Lin rolled her eyes. When it came time to order I let Lin order for me. She knows what I like and I just like her taking control like this.

After our lunch double date we went home and I decided to try on the black skirt Lin picked out. I slipped it on and it fit perfectly. “Wow.” I said. I went out to the living room to show Lin. “Baby look,” I stood in front of her. “You look good.” Lin told me as she looked me up and down. “I’m gonna go try on the others.” I said as I turned around and walked back to the room. Kanto & Toph realize Lin is going blind due to genetics and they have to tell her

They felt dreadful for days, but today…today was much much worse.

Because today they had to tell her. Of course they had to tell her. Her eyes were failing, and their baby girl needed to know why it was happening so quickly.

Toph and Kanto spent the past few days processing the information, trying to come up with a game plan of how they would tell her, how they would help her, and how they would manage Lin’s impending blindness. It wouldn’t be terrible, after all, Toph knew what it was like to live a life without vision. But it was still an adjustment. An adjustment that even the Greatest Earthbender in the World, a blind woman, never wanted for her kid.

And she couldn’t stop shaking as she sat on the couch with Kanto, waiting for Katara to bring Lin home from school. She shouldered the blame of Lin’s disease, because how could it not be her fault? Toph was the blind one, not Kanto or his parents or even her parents suffered vision loss.

Just Toph.

Well, Toph, and soon, Lin.

Kanto’s warm hands wrapped around her clenched fists, and she relaxed ever so slightly.

“It’s gonna be okay,” he whispered soothingly into her ear. Toph sighed, leaning her head onto his. “We’re gonna be okay, Toph.”

“You don’t know that.”

“But it will be. You’ll teach her everything you know, and I talked with the school about resources for her…we can do this.”

She closed her eyes, letting the tears fall now. “She shouldn’t have to deal with this. I—I did this.”

“No you didn’t, Toph.” Kanto’s voice turned desperate, and his hands tightened around hers. “This isn’t on you, baby. It’s not.”

Just as she was about to open her mouth to speak, the door opened, and her heart sank.

This was it.

Katara led Lin into the living room, and once she was situated between her parents, Toph and Kanto took her hands in theirs.

“Hi Mama hi Baba.” Lin squeezed her parents’ hands, her tone indicating she was unaware of the tough conversation ahead.

“Hi baby girl,” Kanto replied. His voice sounded sweet, but Toph knew he was struggling to sound upbeat. “How was school?”

“It was fine. We got ice cream for lunch so that was fun!”

“That sounds nice, baby,” he said, kissing her temple.

“I’ll leave you guys so you can chat,” Katara interrupted before the talk began. After giving Lin’s forehead a kiss and Toph’s spare hand a squeeze, she whispered, “Talk tomorrow?”

Toph nodded. “Yeah. Thanks, Sugar Queen.”

Without another word, Katara slipped out of the Beifong house.

Together, Toph and Kanto took a deep, shaky breath, and began the hardest conversation of their lives.

“Linny,” Toph began, swallowing a lump in her throat. “Baba and I have to talk to you about something important.”

“What is it, Mama?”

“Well, you know how I see differently than y—than Baba?”

“Mhm. You see with your feet.”

Toph couldn’t help but smile at how smart her baby girl was. “That’s right, Lin. I see with my feet, because I can’t see with my eyes.”

She took another deep breath in, then out. “Well, it turns out that not being able to see with my eyes is—it’s something I can pass onto you. It’s something I was born with, and something you were born with.”

“What do you mean?” Lin asked.

“You—you know how your eyes are getting blurry, Lin?” Kanto began. “Well, you’re slowly losing sight in your eyes. Because, it’s something you were born with, like Mama.”

Toph shut her eyes as Kanto explained this to Lin, shame building up in chest.

Lin’s voice still sounded confused by the situation, and it broke Toph’s heart trying to explain this to her child. “I’m losing my eyesight?”

With a quiet, shaky sigh, Toph took Lin’s hand in hers. She had to tell it to her daughter straight. She had to face this mountain head on. “Yes, Lin. You’re losing your eyesight. You’re going blind.”

Silence filled the room, and Toph could feel Kanto’s heart break all over again. And the longer Lin was quiet, the more dread Toph was filled with. Her daughter hated her, it was plain and simple. Of course, it wasn’t the end of the world, being blind, but in Toph’s heart and mind, she failed Lin. She failed to protect her, and losing her eyesight as a kid… that was a fate much worse than being born blind. At least, it was in Toph’s mind.

“Linny?” Kanto finally asked. “What are you thinking? Do you have any questions? Do you understand what’s happening?”

“I understand.”

Another tear fell into Toph’s lap.

“Does...” Lin began, but then paused.

“Yes, baby girl?”

“Does this mean I get to be like Mama?”

Toph’s head straightened, and she sat on the couch confused. “Wh—what?”

“Will I get to be like you, Mama? I get to see like you?”

The breath that Toph had been holding left her lungs in a rush. Was Lin… okay with this? She… she didn’t hate her?

“W—well, I’ll teach you everything I know about seeing with your feet,” Toph said. “I’ll—I’ll teach you so you can be better than me.”

“Really?”

Much to her surprise, Toph found herself smiling. “Really.”

Lin wrapped her arms around Toph’s neck, and relief flooded her entire body. Everything would be okay, and Lin would be okay, and she was excited to be more like her mother.

This wasn’t what they expected for their daughter, but they could adapt. Toph and Kanto would give Lin the best life, and it didn’t matter how soon she’d lose her eyesight, they’d get through it together as a family.

And for the first time since they learned that Lin was going blind, Toph Beifong felt hopeful.

Asami shook her head. We arrived at the mall and went inside. I was looking for lingerie and whatever makes me look like an assistant. We looked around in a shop trying to find something. “What about this?” Asami asked and held up an emerald green lace teddy bodysuit.

“Does it come in green?” I asked. “No but it comes in pink.” Asami said. “I’ll take it.” I said. Asami grabbed a pink set for me and a light blue set for her. We paid for our outfits then went looking for an assistant outfit for me. My eyes widened as I had an idea. “Asami I need a tight pencil skirt. I'm gonna just wear one of Lin’s white button ups. She loses her mind when I wear one of them.” I said. Asami nodded and dragged me into a store. She found me a black pencil skirt that had a tiny slit in it then she grabbed some black stockings.

I paid for my stuff then Asami took me home. When I got home I realized it was almost Lin’s lunch time. “Oh god!” I shouted and tossed my bags on the floor then washed my hands. I don’t even know what to make! I opened the fridge and noticed there was left over noodles. I heated them up then packed up when they were done. I got everything together then rushed off to the station. I didn’t see Mako when I got there but shrugged it off and went upstairs. I knocked on the door.

“Come in.” Lin said. I went inside and closed the door behind me. “Hi honey.” I said. “Hello hon.” Lin said. “I’m sorry I’m a little late. I went out with Asami and lost track of time.” I said as I sat on the couch. “It’s ok baby.” Lin said and came to sit next to me. Lin took the lunch and I just relaxed as she ate. “Did you eat?” Lin asked. “Linny please.” I sighed out. “You need to eat.” Lin told me. “You need to come home.” I said. “ I told you I have to stay here for a while. I'll be home soon.” Lin said.

“When is soon?” I asked. “I wish I could tell you.” Lin said. “I just miss you.” I said softly. “I miss you too.” Lin said. Once she finished eating I laid my head in her lap. She ran her fingers through my hair. “What did you and Asami do?” Lin asked. “Shopping.” I said. “Of course.” Lin said. “I’m a girl, it's what I do.” I said. Lin just nodded. I closed my eyes and just relaxed into Lin’s touch.

I was slightly shaken awake. “Come on baby girl.” Lin said softly. “Five more minutes.” I whined. “No baby, you can’t stay here the whole night. Let’s go home.” Lin said. She picked me up and carried me out of her office. “Home?” I asked. “Yes baby home.” Lin said. Lin sat me in her car and buckled me up then took me home. She carried me up to our apartment. “Are these the things you bought while with Asami?” Lin asked. “Yes.” I said. Lin picked up the bags then took me into the bedroom. I was laid down but I quickly sat up. “Shower.” I said. “I’ll start your shower then I have to go back to work.” Lin said.

“No stay.” I said. “Hon I have to,” “No.” I said as I got up and gave her a hug. “Ok, ok. I’ll stay tonight but tomorrow,” I nodded. “I know, I know. Just stay with me for the night.” I said. Lin kissed my head then we took a shower. She washed my body then I washed hers. “Asami knows we fucked in her closet.” I said. “She does?” Lin asked. I nodded my head. “Well if she and Kya know then that means everyone else knows as well and as they should. Everyone needs to know you’re mine.” Lin said.

“Are the hickeys not enough for everyone to know who I belong to?” I asked. “Nope.” Lin said. I rolled my eyes. “You know it’s not enough, that's why you kept screaming my name and didn’t you say how you belonged to me while I was three fingers deep inside of you.” Lin said as she pulled me close to her. “Lin.” I said. “I’m surprised you took three fingers, do you think you can do that again for me?” Lin asked. “Oh you wanna fuck me now?” I asked. “Unless you don’t want to.” Lin said. I thought about my plan and I’m not gonna let her ruin it!

As horny as I am, I must keep my legs closed. I’m gonna make her wait. “I want us to cuddle tonight.” I said. “Ok.” Lin said and kissed my cheek. I smiled. We finished our shower together. Lin dried me off then helped me put on my nightgown. She brushed my hair then laid me down. “I can’t believe I fell asleep in your office.” I said. “You had a long day of being out with Asami.” Lin said. “I know but still. I’m surprised that you let me sleep for so long.” I said. “I didn’t want to wake you.” Lin said as she put on her tank top.

“Mhm sure.” I said. “It’s true, you were sleeping so peacefully.” Lin said. “I’ll sleep even more peacefully when you come to lay with me.” I said. “I’m coming.” Lin said as she got into the bed. I laid my head on her chest and she rubbed circles on my back.

There was a knock at our door. I got off of Lin and opened the door. “Breakfast, let's go.” Asami said. “Let me get dressed.” I said. Asami nodded and left. I closed the door then brushed my teeth. I tossed off my nightgown then looked for something to wear. As I was looking for something to wear I felt two hands cup my breast. “Lin.” I said. “What?” She asked. “Can we eat breakfast please?” I asked. “I'd rather eat you for breakfast.” Lin said. “Linny.” I whined. “Fine, fine.” Lin said. She let me go and I got dressed. We made our way into the dining room to go eat.

“Lin, I’m glad you could make it.” Su said. “Aunty Lin!” Opal shouted. Lin waved at everyone. “Chief, glad you could make it.” Mako said. Lin just nodded and we sat down together. We ate together then we went for a walk and just tried to enjoy our time together. “I’m still sorry.” Lin said and kissed my hand. “It’s ok baby. I just wish you didn’t have to hide all this from me. You can talk to me Lin, I’m your partner of sorts.” I said. “I know honey, I apologize. It’s just a lot.” Lin said. “I understand that and I’m glad you let me in. I just wish you could do that more.” I said.

Lin sighed. “I just want us to communicate better.” I said. “It’s hard for me, we didn’t communicate much growing up. Mom told us to go hug a tree for emotional support.” Lin said. “My dad told us to suck it the fuck up.” I said. “Don’t we love not having good relationships with our parents.” Lin said. “My dad also tried to sell me.” I said. Lin stopped walking. “What?” I asked. “He did what?” Lin asked. “Yeah he tried to sell me to like this abusive man with money, that's also why I moved to Republic City to get away from him.” I said.

“He can’t sell you.” Lin said. “Girl, that man doesn't care, money makes the world go round.” I said. Lin shook her head. “I feel bad because I had to leave my sister behind but it is what it is.” I said. “Is he gonna try to sell her too?” Lin asked. “Of course he is, but I know my sister she’ll fight. She’ll beat her husband. She's just as bad as me but I’m worse.” I said. “What do you mean you’re worse?” Lin asked. “Huh?” I asked. “You said you’re worse, what do you mean?” Lin asked. “Nothing. We don’t have to talk about that.” I said. “We’re gonna circle back to this.” Lin said. “Mhm sure.” I said.

Lin shook her head. “I understand if you need space after we argue or if you’re just having a shitty day and you need a minute then that’s fine. I’m ok with that, just communicate that’s what you need. Whatever you need me to do for you just talk to me.” I said. “I understand love and I will do my best to communicate better.” Lin said. “That’s all I ask for Lin. I wanna be able to give you everything you need but I can’t do that if you don’t talk to me.” I said. “You already give me everything I need.” Lin said. I kissed Lin’s cheek. “I adore you Lin Beifong.” I said.

I felt Lin grab my face and her lips pressed against mine. “Ooo!” Lin and I pulled apart then turned our heads to see our friends. “Awww Linny!” Su cooed. Lin grabbed my hand and dragged me away. I laughed. “It’s not funny.” Lin said. “It is to me.” I said.
