Tommy and rain😌
Like a gloomy rainy inside day with him would be nice I think
i'm so sorry this took forever but omg i love this prompt so much it's so adorable- also this is my first time writing for tommy so i apologise if it's not quite right (but there's barely dialogue anyway)
rainy days | tommyinnit x fem!reader | 630~ words
Tumblr media
From the moment you woke up, you could feel the damp in your bones. Living in England, a rainy day was common, but you were still getting used to it. Unlike your loving boyfriend, who definitely wasn’t snoring in the bed beside you, England wasn’t your native territory. Originally, you were from America. You’d had your fair share of rainy days, but not as often or as windy as the ones in England – Brighton especially.
The rest of the room was cold, but the bedsheets and Tommy’s sleeping body were providing a comfortable heat that was nearly lulling you back to sleep.
You would end up staying this way for a little while longer, until Tom’s phone rang and Toby was on the other line, asking him a favour about one of their stream plans for later in the week. It was when he got up to head to the computer that you decided to get both your days started with breakfast and tea, which you were setting up on the coffee table instead of the table itself when Tom entered the room.
“How’s it sound we have a quiet day?” He asked, coming to wrap his arms around you as you stood all the way up.
You leaned into his body, soaking up his warmth. “Sounds perfect, actually. Wanna watch something on the tv?”
“Sure, love. Is it okay if we watch some of Schlatt’s new videos before we watch movies or something like that?”
Quickly, you agreed before pulling apart and sitting down. Tom put the videos on and queued a few others up before you both dug in.
Breakfast was delicious, and you were proud of yourself for your steadily improving cooking skills. The rain continuously battered the window on the other side of the living room, providing a nice ambience for the otherwise chaotic video. You took yours and Tommy’s plate from the table and brought them to the kitchen, making more tea for the both of you while you were there.
After handing Tom his mug, you sank into the couch next to him, curling up into his side and grabbing the blanket that was draped across the back of the couch to cover you both up with.
For a while, you sat and watched videos, until moving onto a rotating selection of movies – one you wanted to watch, then one Tom wanted to watch, and so on until things got boring. You put a nice ambient video from YouTube on the TV, still curled into Tom’s side while he scrolled through his social media platforms and you grabbed the book you’d been recently reading from the coffee table.
Days like these were peaceful, relaxing types of days. The apartment was mostly dark, since only a warm lighted lamp and the glow of the TV provided light. The dark clouds overhead added a beautiful atmosphere, and you wished that days like these could last forever.
Tom had his phone on silent, and your book was beginning to get interesting. There were no distractions, just you and Tom, enjoying each other in silence – aside from him occasionally showing you something interesting or funny that he thought you would like (and you usually did like what he showed you).
Most days spent like these, including today, you and Tom normally end up taking an absurdly good and slightly too long nap. At some point, with the lull of the music and the soft, warm lights, you fell asleep with your book on the floor, Tom’s phone slipping from his hands, as you splayed out as best as you could on the couch – with your head on Tom’s chest, his arm around your waist, the blanket tangled up in your legs, intertwined with his as the rain continued to pour well into the evening.

Hello! Today marks the release of a new musical project I've been working on for the past month or so: Sleep Buddy! Ambient music to help you focus or just get some sleep.
Available now on Spotify and Apple Music!
You can read more about where the project came from below:
After dropping out of college, joining a band, moving in with the band, watching the band fall apart, and then subsequently finding myself with an increasing amount of pent-up musically creative energy, I decided I wanted to make something of my own.
I was also about five years deep into a stint of severe insomnia — from my first year of high school onward I generally only slept about an hour or two each night. After my friends would fall asleep and there was nobody left awake to play games with or text or talk to on the phone, I'd spend the quietest hours of my evenings teaching myself how to produce music.
The blend of these two issues manifested itself into a love of producing and listening to ambient music, and I set out with the goal of creating an album that would help me fall asleep each night. It was freeing to break away from the verse-chorus song structure I'd become so acclimated to, allowing myself to let long droning synths reverberate for hours into the night or searching for field recordings of windy plains or rainy farmhouses to see how I could incorporate the sounds of nature into my compositions. I'd write a song, load it onto my iPod, hop into my car, and cruise around empty New Jersey streets to hear how it worked as a soundtrack for the drive. In the span of about three weeks, I'd finished and released my first solo album under the artist name Boqeh: Halcyon.
Halcyon saw the beginning of a new habit: Almost every single day I'd open up my laptop and throw some nice sounding synths and chords together and let them loop endlessly while I worked on other tasks. Usually these project files would get deleted at the end of the day, but every once in a while they'd be saved and fleshed out into a full track for a hypothetical future album release. My next few ambient albums as Boqeh all followed that same songwriting process, but I eventually got more into the habit of deleting files than saving them. Slowly but surely, I stopped releasing music altogether as my career and other creative endeavors took center stage in my life.
Although I grew into the habit of deleting my daily project files, I never kicked the habit of starting a new one almost every morning. In 2018 while discussing the rise of ten-hour relaxation YouTube videos and 24/7 lofi hip-hop beats streams with a friend, I wondered aloud why I wasn't using the huge volume of music I was creating and disposing of daily to do something similar.
It's taken ten years since the release of Halcyon for me to feel confident enough to make it happen, but I'm finally done erasing the work I create.
Enter Sleep Buddy.
youtube
Sleep Buddy is both a new project and revitalization of the intention behind Halcyon — albums of carefully crafted and original ambient music with the goal of helping listeners fall asleep or relax while working on other tasks. Today marks the release of the first album: Intro.
Intro is a thesis statement. Available as a ten hour YouTube video (of course), on Bandcamp, or through your favorite streaming service like Apple Music or Spotify, it contains just under two hours of original ambient music covering a wide variety of ideas I plan on drilling further into for future releases. Almost the entirety of the album was written and produced over three weeks in January of this year, and in the time it has taken to distribute Intro to music platforms, I have already finished a followup for release sometime next month. If all goes well, expect a new Sleep Buddy release monthly in 2023.
In the meantime I hope you'll give this first album a listen, and if you do I hope it helps you relax.
You deserve it.

Favorite Final Fantasy Music (FFXI - Chains of Promathia)
We at the second expansion babyyyyyy!!! This is like, the end of the first arc of FFXI in a way, finishing up the story from the base game and Rise of the Zilart. Huge on story, lots of good characters, and maybe only a little confusing! I think this part of the soundtrack excels at the ambient or chill vibes, but there are some battle themes I do really like.
5. Gates of Paradise - The Garden of Ru'Hmet Like I said: this expansion is all about chill/ambient vibes. This is the song that plays in the final dungeon, very similar to Tu'Lia (it's the same architecture). The harp and the dissonance sounds like you're going through a maze (which fits cause this dungeon is absolutely a maze). The song is a lot of the same for a good while, until eventually the pan flute comes in, giving the song a windy, yet still empty vibe, then you bring in the aliens. And by that I mean a very strange synth noise that I absolutely love and it gives me more motivation to keep going through this very large dungeon.
4. Faded Memories - Promyvion This song might not seem like much, but neither does the area it plays in, and it fits perfectly. Promyvion is a void realm (in XI they call it Emptiness) that is basically the pinnacle of what is eating at the world. The creatures are strange, bug like soul things (if you've played XIV you'll see the model on the moon), and the landscape is incomplete white plains. I love the looping backing track making you feel dizzy, the deep synth bass, and the main melody feeling familiar, but sorrowful.
3. The Celestial Capital - Al'Taieu My favorite zone! Al'Taieu is super cool. The zone has you walking on this flat, teal lake; strange pink architecture with a giant orange portal in the sky. The creatures are extremely alien, with a mix of some looking strangely concrete, others glowing rainbow neon. (and then another one being so hard that it takes several cheating methods to kill and keeps getting buffed to avoid this) The song drones on, with a very fun synthy melody. The entire thing is alien, and I absolutely love it. The zone and the song work together perfectly in tandem; the zone is made for the song, and the song is made for the zone.
2. A New Horizon - Tavnazian Archipelago We're getting away from the strange and alien, and going towards something more grounded, yet still calm. I love the main wind instrument (I don't think it's a flute but it might be), as well as the sort of percussion (again not sure what instrument it is but it kinda fulfills that role) hitting in pairs of eighth notes, giving the song that beat that it needs without being too much. When the song rises more, bringing in the harp behind the main wind melody; it sounds beautiful. it sounds hopeful, it sounds free. This song really makes a strong impression, being the first new zone you enter in the expansion.
1. Onslaught Finally! A battle theme! This is the battle theme that plays when you're in a party, and with that big trill in the start, this feels like a war song. The horns feel triumphant, and then you get them into the main melody (which is so fun to listen to), hitting some high notes and taking sorts of steps down. I also love the flute repeating, spiraling downwards. The snare, tambourine (FFXI loves the fucking tambourine and I am here for it), and the timpani make perfect percussion to keep up that sort of battle vibe the song started with. Love this song.
Honorable mentions go to: Conflict: March of the Hero, Turmoil, Depths of the Soul, The Forgotten City - Tavnazian Stronghold, and each "Ode" piece.

Infinite River — Prequel (Birdman)
Tumblr media
Prequel by Infinite River
The phrase “there must be something in the water” describes an inexplicable concentration of likeminded individuals in a geographic region. In the case of the Detroit River, unfortunately that “something” is pollution. Yet there is a bounty of beauty that flows from this toxic tributary. The sonic rivulets run deep and wide. From Motown, proto-punk and techno to space rock, noise and garage, Detroit’s musical legacy is cast in rust-flecked steel, reverberating in time with the echoes of the Motor City’s now-dormant assembly lines. The Detroit River is filled with artistic splendor.
Infinite River is bathed in Detroit’s decades-long sonic glow. The band comprises stalwart members of three separate long-tenured scenes but maintains a sound that lies somewhere at the center of them all, like a mystical eye within a pyramid. The three musicians – Warren Defever (His Name is Alive), Gretchen Gonzales Davidson (Slumber Party, Universal Indians) and Joey Mazzola (Detroit Cobras, Sponge) – want to engage in a delightful sort of psyops. They’re out to hypnotize with sound, and Prequel is their first salvo of soothing tone.
Infinite River arose from the stir-craziness of lockdown. The three friends jammed out their frustrations with two guitars over a powdery mountain of drone that Defever crafted with synths and tanpura. They enlisted a fourth compatriot – drummer Steven Nistor – to round out their sound with a steady pulse and washes of cymbals. His efforts complete the picture: a dreamy photograph in muted colors that portrays a scene of blissful contemplation. Prequel’s six unnamed sections flow into each other effortlessly. Davidson and Mazzola improvise unhurriedly, their guitars entwined in delicate waves of gossamer. Imagine Windy & Carl’s Consciousness blended into Mountains’ Choral, but with melody and pulse as the primary motivator.
Prequel finds the members of Infinite River acting as a unit without a leader. They’re a small herd moving in unison, and they cover a considerable amount of territory. Psychedelia, ambient, and folk are all touchstones that bear influence on their oeuvre. To complete the picture, each member brings their own personality to the party, adding a uniquely intoxicating element to spike the brew. Defever distills his avant-pop instincts to create fog banks of drone. Davidson and Mazzola strip guitar noise down into its component parts and layer them with melody. Nistor leverages his session drummer instincts to add creative percussion elements that move with the overall direction of the music.
The name of this album leads us to believe that there’s more to come from Infinite River, which is encouraging. Their brand of drift is especially soothing and sublime; given the seemingly endless crises going on these days, we could use an injection of serenity in our lives. Infinite River is the perfect prescription for the current zeitgeist.

A Cottage Witch and her Dragon 15
(You can read the rest of this story here on A03)
Spring in Rodgate had come, and Granny Thomas wanted to go to the beach. She left little pamphlets about the lakes within a day's travel from the city all over her cottage where Serenity could see. When this didn't elicit a response, she started complaining about the heat and mentioning how nice it would be to go swimming. Finally, after a week of this, she waited for a day she knew Serenity wasn't busy, and knocked on Serenity's door, determined to have her way.
"Granny! You-" Serenity cut off whatever she was going to say. "What are you wearing?"
"It's a sun hat, dear," Granny replied with an absolutely predatory grin.
"It's ridiculous!" Serenity said, too shocked to be polite.
The hat in question was, in fact, ridiculous. It was wider than Granny's shoulders, and it was an eye searing color of magenta. The brim was decorated with a garish gold and magenta ribbon that hurt Serenity's eyes to look at.
"Never mind that, dear." Granny went to wave her hand in her usual dismissive way but a gust of wind threatened to knock the positively enormous hat right off her head, so she grabbed it instinctively. "Goodness, it's windy today. Serenity, I'm here to kidnap you!"
Serenity blinked. "What?"
Granny smiled her most mischievous grin and said brightly "We're going to the beach!"
"But Granny-"
"No buts!" Granny said sternly, before breaking out in another wicked grin. "Look!" he showed Serenity a basket she had strung over one arm. "I have everything we need! I got us some nice towels, and some bottles of water, and some sandwiches! We'll take the streetcar to the edge of the city, then hop on a carriage to Diamond Lake! Look! I got you a hat too!"
Granny rummaged around in the basket and pulled out a mercifully plain looking black sun hat that had much more reasonable dimensions than her own extremely dramatic head wear.
"I thought you might need one for when you're tending your stall at the market, and this one seemed your style so I bought it!"
Serenity took the hat in her hands. "Thank you, Granny. It does get rather warm out there. And summer is just around the corner. I..." Serenity looked for an excuse to stay home and failed to find one. "Okay," she sighed, defeated. She never could argue with Granny when she wanted something. "Let me see if Dragon wants to come."
Granny stepped inside while Serenity went to wake up Dragon. "You should make ambient cooling shawls," Granny suggested. "Cotton wicks away heat. You could enhance those properties!"
"Funny you say that," Serenity called from the bedroom, where, judging from the sound, she was rummaging through drawers in search of something. "I actually have a prototype!"
Dragon, who had been asleep on Serenity's bed, opened his eyes at the noise and, upon seeing Granny in the living room, jumped out of bed with a squeak and ran to greet her.
"Hello, Dragon! What do you think about going to the beach? It's a place full of water! With sand and fish! We can get wet and play!"
Dragon wiggled with excitement, eyes wide, and looked to Serenity for approval.
"I can't say no to that face," Serenity replied. "Let's go to the lake!"
"Excellent!" Granny said brightly. "Quick, follow me!"
Granny walked at a leisurely pace that Dragon could match without being carried. Soon enough, they made it to the neighborhood streetcar stop and climbed aboard. There were a few stares as Dragon politely hopped up onto a chair and curled up, getting comfy. The city entrance closest to Diamond Lake was three transfers away. Rodgate was the largest city in a day's carriage ride in every direction. The magic-fueled streetcar was an excellent free resource for those who needed to get around the city, but it wasn't very efficient for going long distances.
Finally, they arrived at the edge of the city. There were carriages going to all sorts of nearby destinations, including small towns and several lakes. Granny bargained with a carriage driver, and after waiting half an hour for a few more passengers, they set off towards the lake!
Serenity was glad for her new prototype shawl. It was a particularly warm spring day. Summer was just around the corner and this year was threatening to be a hot one. But despite being in a stuffy carriage, she felt cool and comfortable.
"Granny, I have to make you one of these," she commented. "It's not as big a difference as the warming wool shawls, but it's so refreshing."
"Once you have figured out a fair price, I'll buy one from you," Granny replied, patting her arm.
"If you insist, Granny."
Dragon sat next to Serenity, staring out the window excitedly. His tail whipped back and forth when he saw something particularly interesting. Occasionally he would get excited about something and tug on Serenity's shawl to get her attention and show her. Things Dragon considered noteworthy included a chicken farm, a fast horse careening by, and a statue in one of the small towns they passed through. Serenity could feel his excitement building. It was cute. She made a mental note to take him exploring the city more often.
After an hour's carriage ride, they arrived at Diamond Lake. The air was cooler here, and the lake was surrounded by trees that provided shade. The edge of the lake was sandy, and there was a platform a ways into the lake that had a slide on it. There were children playing on the slide, people playing in the water together, and a group of young people playing with a ball on the soft sand. Further out on the water, there were fishermen on small boats. A shack next to the dock advertised boat rentals by the hour and fresh fish by the pound.
Dragon took one look at the water and rushed in, splashing the entire way. He let out an excited squeak, looking back at Serenity and Granny on the shore.
"It's cold, isn't it?" Serenity said.
"Don't splash other people," Granny scolded. "You behave yourself, you rascal."
Dragon blew a raspberry at her and used his tail to make a small splash in Granny's direction.
"Brat," was all Granny said in reply.
Dragon moved a little ways further into the water, to where it came up to his shoulders, and happily turned in a circle, clearly excited by the splashing and cool water. He splashed in a circle, looked back at Serenity and Granny, let out an excited crow, then repeated the entire process several times. Serenity could feel overwhelming excitement coming from him.
"That monster," Granny let out a laugh. "I'm glad he's excited."
"Shall we lay out our towels?" Serenity asked.
"Yes, where would you like to sit?"
Serenity selected a spot on the shore under the shade of some trees, near the young people playing ball but out of their way. Granny set out their towels and they sat down in the shade.
"I should have brought lemonade," Granny said. "I didn't think of that."
"Lemons are out of season, though," Serenity reminded her. "Lemonade at this time would cost a fortune."
"That's true. But today is a special day! I'm out on the water with my two favorite... well I suppose Dragon isn't a person, but close enough."
"He's like a cross between a toddler and a cat," Serenity laughed.
"He'll grow up to be more like a person but... a bit feral," Granny told her, laughing. "When a spirit enters a familiar egg, they grow in power and intelligence, but you can't magic away someone's instincts."
"Sometimes he tries to form thoughts into words to me. It's sort of like a buzzing in the back of my head right now. I'm not ready for him to grow up! I never would have guessed how much my life would change because of him. I'm not changing careers, but life is so different with a constant companion. And sometimes he shows such maturity and kindness to others, and then he goes right back to being a mischievous little monster."
Granny laughed. "Children are like that. They constantly surprise you. And they're constantly learning and growing. Especially when they're younger. And their motor skills get better by leaps and bounds. I've noticed he uses his paws for things more nowadays. He can almost grasp a teacup like a person now. His thumbs get closer to ours every day, it seems. I didn't expect that."
"I have no idea what to expect and yet he still surprises me constantly," Serenity agreed.
Suddenly a ball landed on the sand near them, interrupting their conversation. A handsome young man came over to retrieve it.
"Sorry ladies," he said with a charming smile. "Would you like to join us, pretty lady?" He directed the question at Serenity, who tensed up.
Granny looked at Serenity and a look of understanding passed between them.
"It's been a while since anyone called me a pretty lady," Granny said, giving him her own charming smile.
"Well then the people around you are blind, my lady."
"Flatterer! Why don't you come over and talk to us," Granny winked at him.
"Granny!" Serenity was mortified.
The young man, who was only wearing a pair of shorts, came over to them, grinning at Granny.
"I can't call a pretty lady like you 'Granny.' What's your name, beautiful?"
Serenity resisted the urge to throw herself into the lake.
"I'm Melody," Granny smiled. "How about you?"
"I'm Nick!" The young man sat down on the sand near them, smiling in a more friendly, less flirtatious way.
"This is Serenity," Granny informed him. "And that's Dragon. He's with us." She pointed out Dragon, who had discovered doggy paddling and was making his way out to the platform with the slide.
"Dragon?" Nick looked impressed.
"He's my familiar," Serenity explained, more at ease with the flirting out of the way.
"You're a witch? That's so cool! What kind of witchcraft do you do?"
"I'm a cottage witch. I make knitted and crocheted items with magic worked into them. And I sell teas with a little magic in them to boost the herbs I use," Serenity explained.
"Serenity made that shawl she's wearing," Granny added. "It's got an enchantment to make it cooler, to help combat the heat."
"Oh, that is awesome!" Nick said enthusiastically. "Can I feel it?"
"Sure!" Serenity removed the shawl from around her shoulders and handed it to him.
Nick promptly put it on, then struck a pose, preening like a peacock. "How do I look?"
"Very handsome," Granny laughed.
"That's really interesting." Nick handed the shawl back to Serenity. "It really does cool you off! What other kinds of things do you make?"
"Well, my fireproof oven mitts are very popular," Serenity replied. "And I make rags that will always absorb more water no matter how wet they get."
"That's genius!" Nick exclaimed.
Their attention was suddenly taken away by a loud howl, and then a large splash. Dragon had made it to the slide. His head burst out of the water and he climbed back onto the platform, jumping up and down and crowing excitedly in Serenity and Granny's direction.
"Is it fun?" Granny hollered at him.
Dragon jumped up and down and wiggled excitedly in reply, sending Serenity and Granny a feeling from across the water that could only be translated into exclamation points.
"Your dragon seems excited," Nick said.
"He's never been swimming before," Serenity explained. "He's still a baby. Mentally he's sort of like a toddler, only with paws instead of hands."
"He doesn't need thumbs to cause trouble," Granny chuckled. "He's downright mischievous!"
"I didn't know familiars were like that," Nick said, clearly interested. "I don't know any witches very well. There's a witch in our town but she tends to keep to herself."
"Familiars are as intelligent as people, but they also have the instincts of whatever species they are," Granny explained. "I had a familiar too, once upon a time. But he lives with my daughter now."
"You're a witch too?" Nick was clearly impressed.
"I'm retired, but yes. I was a weather witch. I would do things like go up in the sky and redirect lightning during storms, to protect the city from fires. Or I would work with a team during dry times to keep things wet and growing. I come from a farm town, you see. Making sure things have enough water is important out there."
"Going up during a lightning storm sounds dangerous!"
Serenity hadn't ever heard Granny talk at length about her time as a witch, so she was interested in Granny's explanation as well.
"It was," Granny said in that tone old people sometimes use when talking about the past. The tone that seemed to say 'it was a long time ago, but that was just life back then.' "But it's important to prevent fires during dry spells. I did get hit once." She hiked up her skirt a little bit to reveal a scar on her leg, a gnarled, branching silver scar that covered her calf and disappeared behind the rest of her skirt. "I fell right out of the sky. If my partner hadn't slowed down my fall, I would have died."
"You never told me that, Granny!" Serenity felt a clenching ache in her chest. The thought of Granny falling out of the sky almost broke Serenity's heart.
"It was a long time ago," Granny said. "I walked with a cane for a few months afterwards. And the nerves were never the same in that leg. But in the end it healed up nicely. It does feel... odd... during thunderstorms, though. Almost as if the scars remember being lightning."
"That's intense," Nick said solemnly.
"Yes, well, enough about us! What do you do, Nick?"
"I'm a student at Rodgate University. We're on spring break right now," he waved a hand to indicate the group of young people he had abandoned in favor of their company. "I'm studying biology! I want to work with scientists trying to conserve endangered species in their native habitats."
"That's admirable!" Granny remarked, smiling. "So you're a future scientist! That's a good profession for a young man."
"I hope so," Nick said, embarrassed. "I used to roam the woods around my town a lot. And I ended up reading a lot of books about local wildlife. There's a type of magical creature in our area, a fox that can blend into it's surroundings using magic. Ever since I was little, I thought they were fascinating. I could usually only find evidence they left behind, but I got to see one in person, once. It was clearly intelligent. It knew I had been leaving food for it during the winter. It met me where I had been leaving food, revealed itself to me, nodded, and I got this feeling in my mind of... gratitude, I think. It changed me as a person. I realized I wanted to take care of the amazing animals in the world, magic and mundane alike."
"That's a wonderful story," Granny told him.
Suddenly, a gust of wind came from behind them, blowing Granny's ridiculous hat right off her head and into the lake.
"Drat! My hat!"
"I'll get it for you!" Nick said cheerfully. "Such a remarkable hat must be protected at all costs."
Serenity snickered while Nick ran after the hat, which was rapidly floating away.
"He's a nice young man," Granny remarked to Serenity.
"Yes," Serenity agreed. "He is in that stage of life where everything is exciting. When you finally become an adult and you're exploring the world in a new way. It's fun to watch."
Nick came back victorious, sopping wet up to his chest, holding Granny's now soaked hat in one hand. "I got it!"
"Thank you, dear," Granny said, taking the hat from him. "Darn, it's wet. Serenity, girl, will you help me dry it out?"
"Sure, Granny." Serenity took the hat in her hands and concentrated on it. She slowly extended her magical senses around her. She could feel the relationship between everything around her. The lake, the trees, the people, everything showed up to her as energy. She concentrated on the water on the hat, then, with a mental flick, she extracted the water from the hat. The water stayed in a little ball, hanging in the air for a moment, before she let go of the magic and it fell into the sand.
Nick was wide eyed in front of them. "That was so cool!"
"It's simple for someone like Serenity," Granny said proudly. "I'm a little old to be using up energy on a wet hat, but Serenity is young and full of energy."
"How old are you," Nick directed the question to Serenity.
"Don't you know it's rude to ask a lady's age," Granny scolded, smiling to show she didn't really mean it.
Nick looked a little sheepish.
"It's okay, Granny. I'm 24."
"Oh nice! I'm 19!"
Someone from the group of young people yelled Nick's name, waving for him to come back.
"Well, it was nice meeting you ladies," Nick said. "It's time for us to go get lunch. We're staying at an inn nearby! Maybe I'll see you again!"
"If you ever visit Valley Commons, Serenity has a stall at the market Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays," Granny informed him.
"If I'm ever around, I'll say hi!" Nick said before running after his friends.
Granny and Serenity sat in comfortable silence, watching Dragon, who was having the time of his life with the slide on the lake.
"I'm glad we came out today," Serenity said finally. "Thank you, Granny."
"Thank you for coming with me!"
"Dragon won't ever forget today."
Granny watched Dragon go down the slide, yelling the entire way. "He's a good little guy. I'm glad I got to show him something special. Our life is so mundane. And that's nice. But little ones like some novelty in life."
"Next time, we should bring Liz and Lucy," Serenity said, thinking out loud.
"That would be nice," Granny patted her arm. "I wanted to have a special day just with you two, but next time, let's come in a group!"
"I would love that, Granny."
"Oh, Serenity," Granny changed the subject. "I want to buy some fish while we're here. Could I wrap it in your shawl so it stays cold?"
"Sure, Granny. Hmm. That gives me ideas for new products."
Granny grinned at her. "That's our Serenity, always making new innovations."
"I do my best."
The two of them lapsed into another familiar and comfortable silence. After a while, Dragon came back to them and curled up on Serenity's towel, clearly exhausted from all the fun.
"Well, he looks tuckered out," Granny said. "Shall we eat our sandwiches and start to head home?"
"Sure, let's eat, grab some fish, and head back."
They did just that. Dragon slept the entire carriage ride back, exhausted from his exciting new experiences. He draped himself around Serenity's neck as they got onto the streetcar, and rode the entire way back home that way. They arrived home in early evening, parting ways at Serenity's door, with Granny promising to make a nice fish dish to share for dinner tomorrow. Thinking back on the day, Serenity went to bed with a smile on her face.

Cities: Skylines II Review Cons: - A lot of reading. - There is an ad on and off option. - The controls are fine but they do take a while to get used to, I mean there is a lot going on and menus usually require button press combos etc. - It's all very daunting at first. - The game doesn't offer any pre-built scenarios. - No mod support. - Had text overlap a few times. - At times the character models looked Blocky and ugly. - Performance is a bit up and down especially when dealing with big cities. - No multiplayer modes. (more a FYI) - I still to this day have a few issues with the mechanics and the ins and outs of how some things work mostly because I feel the game doesn't explain or do a good job of helping you learn. Finalized and Edited Narrative with Camera Angles
The camera moves slowly, showing a glimpse of a perfect blue sky, quite serene and calm. As the camera pans, capturing the expanse of the calm horizon with still clouds, the scene seems almost too real, too tranquil to be true. Sounds of nature could be heard in the distance, setting an ambient and peaceful mood.
Yet, as the camera gets closer, we see a figure of a girl, her back turned to us. She turns around and looks up a bit, covering her eyes for a moment from the sun rays, tinted with a slight yellow hue, it radiates a slight magical glow and a feeling of warmth and peace but at the same time seems unusually bright.
These bright sun rays illuminate a side of the empty wall, further making it seem like she's outdoors with the slight shadow casting beneath her as she moves. But soon, the sun rays fades away.
The camera moves to a side shot and the girl starts to paint. The camera moves again to a medium shot from behind as she paints nimble and fluid brushstrokes in a shade of blue, giving a bit of life to the empty wall.
Moving closer, to an over the shoulder shot, she paints calmly and the camera slowly shifts to a wide shot showing her standing on a step ladder and as if someone is recording her every movement from afar as well.
The camera shifts to a side shot, showing her holding a white paint palette. A closeup pov shot reveals that it's splattered with various tones of blue paint and a noticeable gold branding label called "Artist's Pal"
An extreme close up shot of the paintbrush gliding across the wall, shows the intricate brush strokes adding more artistic detail to this empty wall, the camera carefully taking in all the slow movements in a way that's very calming.
The camera shifts again, as she paints in a peaceful motion. She tries to fix her hair away from her face and amidst this calm moment, a gasp escapes her lips. The tranquil moment shatters as the paintbrush slips from her hand, and we hear a soft splash - as if the brush fell into water.
The sound of the splash resonates for a second, rippling through the serene atmosphere. The screen goes black and suddenly, a scene of a destructive storm fills the screen for about two seconds like a flashback, the weather dark and windy with sounds of rain echoing all over as the strong waves of the ocean splashes around in contrast to the calm scene before. A bolt of lightning echoes loudly in the distance and the camera cuts.
Abruptly, the dream like state ends and the scene changes. The terrifying sounds of the storm and lightning echoes in Truman's mind for a second and he rubs his eyes. Letting out a sigh, he stares at his reflection in the mirror and starts to talk to himself.

Yon Cool Crystal Fountain 34 minute EP . This composition is named after a verse from the folk song Wild Mountain Thyme.
I will build my love a bower
By yon cool (clear) crystal fountain
And round it I will pile
All the flowers o’ the mountain.
Track list
Yccf
Knives of Cold
O god of weather
The wind carried your scent, I catch it in my mouth. It becomes my breath. I take it with me south.
Winterlude
Oval
In mist
Yon Cool Crystal Fountain
Track breakdown:
YCCF
This introduces the ep with the central themes and elements that carry through the composition. It has the breathy/windy vocoder alongside processed field recordings and sounds made to emulate alternate versions of natural sounds. In this case the ‘fountain’ sounds being not like that of a recording of a fountain but still provoking thoughts of springing water and fluid motions. I matched the speed of the beat to a water fountain which is why it doesn’t follow a bpm but rises and falls.
KNIVES OF COLD
Currently this track has many different edits. It is the one I have worked on the most and the longest and it has been quite ‘sticky’ working out the structure to flow at the right pace. It became a piece of ambient noise music, with church bells, dripping water, icy synth parts, vocals, banjo, electronic drums patterns and samplesof hyming voices. I wanted this to be a piece of fantasy. Describing a setting upon a mountain top, with sounds of swords and movement like battles from far being sonically carried through the wind.
At its core this track is a honouring of winter. It meditated over these words from the novel ‘matrix’ by Lauren Groff
The wind blows knives of cold
The wind blows knives of cold
The world is coated in a fine shining ice a
Thumb thick
And in reference to the distant battles I introduce this with:
I hear a distant drum a sound not rise or fall.
Knives and swords and blades and arrow heads.
This track is also influenced by the myth of The Big Grey Man of Ben McDui and a book on this myth I found in the archives at Aberdeen City Library.
Ghostly Music and Voices.
‘If sweetest sounds can win thine ear
Those sounds, I’ll strive to catch;
Thy voice I’ll steal to woo thysel
The voice that none can match'
The Grey Man of Ben McDui is a spectral myth with stories of a ghostly figure amid misty hills. Knives of Cold is an uptempo track at 130 bpm, translating wind's rhythm into auditory gusts, mirroring the ghosts ascent and whispers. This myth has been debunked attributing it to altitude-induced delirium, I find the fabrication of a ghost by different sources to be intruiging. Each source sites an otherworldly singing or hyming from the mountain.
O GOD OF WEATHER
In this track I wanted to harness ambient noise to simulate a beckoning of a mythical weather deity. Within this composition, the symphony of natural sounds—whispering winds, distant thunder, and synth bagpipes—converges to evoke the very essence of nature's might.
THE WIND CARRIES YOUR SCENT, I CATCH IT IN MY MOUTH IT BECOMES MY BREATH
The vocals for this track was recorded on a cliff top in Cove. I go to this site to collect field recordings and create compositions as the winds are strong and the landscape is beautiful. Whilst recording the vocals the winds sang in unison and became an ‘equal player’ in the recording.
The wind/vocals were recorded on vocoder with recordings of breath layered underneath. The vocoder patch has been edited to have wavering band levels in LFO with the volume of the input increasing and decreasing the bands. Whilst recording I manually edit the mix volumes between hearing the input source (vocals) and the filtered synth vocoder sounds.
I use gathered samples from acoustic percussion and metallic clanging edited and processed to create sensations of height and vertigo. I wanted the percussion to capture the delicate architecture of a cliff top.
This track has more of a minimal composition and focuses on emulating a sense of landscape and gravity.
Winterlude
This 2 minute long track is a short study of feeling chills in the wind and rain.
OVAL
Oval has the most through structure as it is a ‘marching’ track. I use samples of bag pipes, drums and the sound of old doors closing and opening, field recordings and theres is a recording of Gaelic chanting that follows through the piece.
IN MIST
‘In Mist’ came from high winds at Cove cliff tops. I recorded these winds through a zoom h4n however found that the internal microphone of my OP1 field synth captured the gravity of the winds scale and its rising and falling nature. I layered these wind recordings alongside a recording of myself whistling into the microphone and used high pass and low pass filtering to produce further movement. I then used an arpeggio sequencer I had altered with a flute like synth preset. I continued to change the metering of the sequencer from ¼ to 1/8, 1/8th and 1/16. This melodic part is very much influenced by Phillip Glass’s ‘Metamorphosis’, I find that this piece of music evokes the greatest feeling of rising, like being carried by the wind. 'In Mist’ began and was completed in one sitting on the coastal path between St Fitticks park in Torry and Cove Bay.
Overall
I wanted each individual track to communicate well in the wider composition whilst adding something different. I work across varying bpms, scales and genre influences. I thought a lot about sound design and utilising the stereo field, in balance with walls of noise to emulate great mountain scales and gusts of wind. There are elements of narrative and nods to folklore however it is important to me that the listener takes what they find from my compositions without their intentions being strongly eluded to. This album also involves minimal and maximal structures, In the process of completing each piece I often had to remove rather than add things to or from the final mix.
Although, when it comes to mixing and mastering I feel my abilities falter the album, I do feel that I succeed in creating what I set out to do with this work.
I experimented with embracing the tempo of a fountain's dance or encapsulating the essence of mountaintops and cliff tops. Site specific works captured the essence of the place and moment in reality but also fused with fantasy of ethereal voices merging with modern sonic landscapes.

Sleep Buddy
Tumblr media
In the span of about three weeks, I'd finished and released my first solo album under the artist name Boqeh: Halcyon.
youtube
Head to sleepbuddy.online for more. <3
