One of my (so many) current WIPs!
Saw the Joker image and immediately thought of Sotha Sil, so, after drawing him I had to draw the rest lol (I'm still figuring out Ayem and Voryn)
I'm pretty proud of how Vivec is turning out actually

How good are the elves at card games?
Will they be angry? Will they boast?
Sotha Sil goes in half-heartedly. He's not very competitive with it and doesn't try too hard. But somehow ends up winning anyway.
Vivec claims he's good and will put a 100% into winning. He'll probably win a game or two before they start to beat him. Then things get interesting. (Keyword: annoyance)
Almalexia never goes from calm to angry so quick till she plays any card game. It's one thing to win and be satisfied and another to get beaten constantly.
Voryn Dagoth on a good day will play with the tribune and Nerevar. He doesn't care if he loses or wins...he just likes watching Ayem and Vehk get angry over Sil winning.
Mannimarco is 100% competitive. If he loses he will safely assume they are cheating even if the person's hands never moved. Things will be broken.
Neloth is also super competitive but he's the table slammer of the group. He curses and gets loud when he plays. Most of the time he's pretty good though.
Divayth Fyr doesn't really get angry when he loses card games. Bad cards? Just immediately assumes it's over. He wins? Gives smug looks to his opponent.
Ondolemar was great when he played in Summerset. But here? Oh boy. No. The cards are different and he's sure that guy took a card out of his sleeve. No he's not mad he's losing.
Teldryn Sero is a god at card games. They don't know how but he's so hard to beat. Isn't very competitive but the table is tense if you're the last opponent.
Indoril Nerevar tries so hard. But if he plays with the tribune and Voryn...his eyes are watering at how terrible the game is going and Ayem and Vehk are screaming at eachother.

vivec’s feet
so let me get this out of the way before i talk about vivec's feet. there is a common belief (whether it is true or not, i have no idea - it could go either way imo) that in certain middle eastern cultures/languages, "feet" can be a euphemism for the genitals. while i would not put it past kirkbride to have meant it in this context, i am not going to evaluate it that way. i am going to approach this topic from a different metaphorical lens.
so i think that the crushing, removal, and eventual restoration of vivec's feet during the pomegranate banquet section of the lessons is a sort of metaphor for the evolution of vivec's confidence - or "footing" if you will - before, during, and after hir sexual assault.
(i should note something else also, which you might already know if you've followed me for a long time - i do not believe that the events of the pomegranate banquet are in any way literal, up to and including the identity of vivec's abuser. it was not literally molag bal. his name and title as "king of rape" were used to evoke the event that took place without saying it out loud.)
so at the beginning of sermon 12, high off delivering one of hir three lessons of ruling kings (if we can assume this happened literally at this time) in the previous sermon, vivec is feeling pretty good, pretty confident. let me quote something interesting from sermon 11, though:
"When you approach God, however, cut both of [your hands] off. God has no need of theory and he is armored head to toe in terror."
i wonder if this might be an intentional allusion to what's about to happen? of course, this quotation refers to hands, not feet, but it does also mention that "God" is "armored head to TOE." just a thought.
anyways, coming off of sermon 11, vivec seems to find ayem and seht in some kind of tryst or something? vivec then "leapt through into their likenesses to observe," which seems to me to refer to hir trying to "emphathize" with the two of them ("leapt through INTO their likenesses", in a sense momentarily BECOMING them in order to feel what they feel, see what they see). but vivec "gained no secrets that [ze] did not already know," perhaps feeling (over)confident that ze knows all there is to know about the two of them already, and "left a few of [hir] own behind to make the journey worthwhile," further indicating a kind of arrogance about hir knowledge of the two other members of the tribunal.
after this, vivec "wandered far into the ash" and "found a span of badlands to practice [hir] giant-form." the "giant-form" here is likely not literally vivec as a giant, especially since despite what ze says, vivec was not a god yet at this point. the "giant-form" likely refers to hir perspective of hirself as a "giant," someone very important and confident in their importance. vivec then "made of [hir] feet a less dense material than the divine to keep from falling waist-deep into the earth." vivec's arrogance made them take for granted hir basic confidence, which seems to be stored in the feet here, so that ze doesn't fall "waist-deep into the earth," which means to commune with the earth and its inhabitants. a "giant" SHOULD fall "waist-deep into the earth," so that they can keep a level head, so to speak; a person of great import should not lose sight of the people they lead and their problems.
(i should note here that i am in no way trying to justify what happened to vivec by saying any of this. this is the way vivec justifies it to hirself, in the way that ze writes this narrative.)
vivec's line, "How very beautiful you are, that you do not join us" might be indicative of a kind of nonchalance or "lax" reaction to "molag bal's" appearance. this is swiftly responded to by "molag bal," who "crushed the warrior-poet's feet, which were not invulnerable" - first destroying vivec's confidence - "and had legions cleave them off" - secondly completely removing it. without hir confidence, vivec "allows" what follows to happen - "fires from the Beginning Place were brought like nets to hold Vivec and [ze] let them" - because ze feels like ze deserves it.
and this disconnection of the feet - hir confidence - is followed by the disconnection of the head - hir mind, hir consciousness. it's been noted by people smarter than i that vivec's head seeming to be in different places than hir body is indicative of the kind of dissociation common among those with ptsd from traumatic events like sexual assault. the "head" can only take so much before it must go away, and leave the "body" to its own devices. and without the feet, the confidence, there is nothing to anchor the head, the "I". and we all know how important the "I" is to the metaphysics in this series.
one more note, concerning the sermon following sermon 12: this sermon, the second lesson of ruling kings, was delivered "to the Hortator when Vivec was not whole," meaning when vivec was still missing hir head and feet. what this means for the timeline of the actual pomegranate banquet, i don't know exactly. and whether or not this sermon has anything to do with it is up for debate. although i do find the line "[The ruling king] is to learn from my punishment" interesting in this light. within the context i've described here, ze seems to see hir sexual assault as a "punishment" for hir arrogance. just a thought.
anyways, during the concluding sermon of the pomegranate banquet, sermon 14, "the Prince placed the warrior-poet's feet back and filled them with the blood of Daedra," meaning that vivec regained hir confidence, hard-fought, and made of something new, instead of the old arrogance. "In this way Vivec's giant-form remained forever harmless to good earth," meaning that hir arrogance would no longer be a danger to those around hir, or to hirself. (whether or not that is true is not for me to say here.) so, at great cost, vivec's "feet," hir confidence, is restored.
anyways, yeah. that's my post about vivec's feet

Hi Mori! I was wondering if you had any headcanons around the Kamal? I’ve been thinking about them lately :+)
i feel i owe ayem for a lot of this bc of the books she's read and what she brought to light in our convos about akavir, but the gist is the kamal are a variety of nomadic cultures living in this steppey tundra north of the main mountain range on akavir. it's a HUGE area and they make their living a variety of ways, most abide to this sort of philosophy of impermanence and fluidity that has to do with their beliefs and their tower. that whole "kamal freeze in the winter and melt in the summer" from mysterious akavir we have corrupted into meaning they migrate seasonally (or every few years, which is "seasonal" for a continent subject to periodic monsoon seasons) and in doing so have this festival centered around constructing a huge tower made out of ice with magic that is inevitably fated to melt and fall apart eventually. in elder scrolls deeplore terms its like some radical anti-anuic statement that honors mortaltude and the creation of mundus and it's also a giant tower made of ice where all the old people get to tell stories and the kids play on the ice and groups who oft don't interact get to catch up and trade
the other thing was the migration, i belieeeve what it was was that when it gets very cold on akavir they have that lats hurrah with the tower and then they migrate north across the frigid sea to ATMORA. which is actually doing pretty nice in the modern day. it got better. they love atmoran wood for building things (i think some ESO armor or weapon might've even hinted at that?? they just said "elder wood") and even hang out with the atmorans sometimes :) they also herd reindeer i forgot to mention that they herd reindeer in akavir. maybe there's even a sort of temporary landbridge that connects with atmora when it gets cold and they herd right across that. i think that gives a good overview of em

The Fates are never wrong
Nerevar left the safe walls of the fortress to go watch the sunset and as they walked through the gate, the lord felt something odd.
"Who is there?"
Suddenly out of the corner of his eye, he saw a figure hang upside-down from the gate. He drew Trueflame and held it in the figure's direction with one smooth movement.
It looked like a human, but somehow it didn't. The fire of Trueflame illuminated its face. The figure grabbed the sword and held it away from itself.
"Now, now, Nerevar. That is an odd way to greet an old friend."
"Lord Sheogorath."
Nerevar immediately sheathed Trueflame.
"I follow and support your kind and I get disrespected like this?"
"Apologies. I am... on edge."
"I can see that.... I come bearing bad news, my darling."
The lord sighed, "I do not believe that I can hear worse news anymore."
Sheogorath looked straight ahead to not meet his gaze.
"You will die, Serjo Indoril Nerevar Mora."
Nerevar chuckled, "At least the death of a warrior that I can handle."
"No, Nerevar."
He looked at them in confusion.
"How do you even know that?"
"Each Era I get another future vision. Though, it is mostly a blur. I am over staying my welcome. If Azura knows I am here, she will murder me."
Nerevar still felt shaken by the news, "Is- Is there anything I can do?"
"Calm down your lover before the battle."
"Ayem?"
"No, the other one. That pretty man from House Dagoth. I doubt.... that... it will help you in the future, but it is at least a good idea. Almalexia does not need emotional support, Voryn does. Trust me, Nerevar of House Indoril. Come here."
He inched closer and got embraced by the Daedric Prince. The Daedra struggled to speak, "Know that you never did anything wrong. This is simply how it will happen. Enjoy your time with the one you love most."
Somehow the arms of the Daedric Prince felt welcoming and warm.
"We will see each other again someday. I know it."
"Thank you, Lord Sheogorath."
"No, thank you, Lord Indoril Nerevar. Make your people proud and protect them."
Nerevar felt how the hug of Sheogorath was fading and once he looked back up, they were gone. He felt a sense of urgency and made his way back. Standing in front of a door nervously, before knocking on it. He held his breath as the door opened.
"Nerevar? So early in the morning?"
In the doorway was a chimer with beautiful long, black hair, holding his red robe closed.
"Voryn..."
Nerevar couldn't get the words of the Madgod out of his head and he leaned up to kiss his High Chancellor which he could not resist.
Voryn gently held onto Nerevar, looking around, before pulling him into his room.
Vehk was tightly asleep, but they thrashed around in his sleep as they felt like zir ears were being penetrated by caterpillars.
"Vehk... I know what you will do. Do not deny it."
Ze shook awake only to find nothing in their room. That was when they yawned and immediately got back to sleeping.

Hello! I hope this isn't a bother but I was curious if you had any headcannons on Dwemeri names and naming conventions? I hope you're having a good day!
I have quite a few, actually! these are just all my onw headcanons, really:
dwemer have at least two names during their lifetimes
as children, they have a childhood name that is given to them by their parents and will be changed later as a rite of passage to adulthood
childhood names aren't considered particularly important and can be pretty much anything - often it's a diminutive form of something else, sometimes taken from a precious metal/stone or a tonal theory that's well-regarded, or just a few nonsense syllables that have tones the parents consider interesting, cute, or thought-provoking. They serve as placeholders for adult names but theyre also something children carry with them for a while, so something fun or playful that says 'you're valued' implicitly is really what people look for. what's discouraged are names which talk about values or roles as these tend to form adult chosen names and are something the child will decide for themselves later.
the other type of name a dwemer has is their adult name, or chosen name.
chosen names are serious business. they're often practical, reflecting the role a dwemer occupies in their society, or a value they consider most important and seek to emulate - and thus a dwemer needs to have strong idea of who they are, their purpose and what role they play in the community.
there is no set age or time where dwemer decides on a chosen name. this can be as soon as they turn 20 (which is when adulthood begins, emphasis on begin - you're a young adult in dwemer society until you're about 35 to 40), or they finish mandatory education, whichever is sooner. this is rare and often discouraged as you need to be fairly certain about your values, your sense of purpose & who you are when you choose a name - it's considered worse to be too hasty when making this decision than being too late. A common time dwemer choose their name is on their return from a sabbatical, i.e. a lengthy break young adult dwemer tend to take before or after further study for the purpose of further independent research, often outside of the clan. Most dwemer tend to spend at least five years in what we'd think of as higher education (though the exact method of teaching etc. differs with a lot more apprenticeships as a rule) and it is during this time that most transition to an adult chosen name.
when a dwemer wants to choose a name, they'll often speak to their teachers & clan elders/chiefs informally for ideas and advice, giving suggestions if need be. Once they've chosen their name, they need to justify this in front of a panel of teachers/clan elders/chiefs - usually the ones you've talked to - who grill you about it (it's a peer-reviewed process lol). They will not actually stop you from choosing your name after the review, but dwemer 1. love an excuse for a formal disagreement and 2. feel that part of adulthood is being confident enough in yourself and your goals and having developed enough argumentative skills to say 'no, this is actually who I am, politely fuck off' to a group of wise, well-respected elders who seek to challenge you on an issue where you know as much if not more. The whole process is about understanding the difference between respect and reverence for authority.
If things in their life change, dwemer may change names again to reflect this (the process is nowhere near as involved). This isn't frowned upon - but rather seen as fairly normal.
another blogger - Ayem - has noted that -ac (or aka) in Kagrenac and Dumac most likely signifies 'chief'. From that, I think dwemer tend to add titles as suffixes to the ends of names. It's quite possible that someone will keep the base root of their name their entire life but the suffix will change to reflect their position and expertise in their chosen profession.
A lot of this actually is based off ayem's translation of Kagrenac - king/chief of tones/music - and Dumac - king/chief of us/the dwemer. These aren't names people would have from birth and are closer to titles.
Titles as suffixes make names quite formal, so diminutives and nicknames are commonly used (a variety exist for different relationships but family and partners use them most frequently, for obvious reasons).
Like many things in dwemer society, names aren't gendered. A dwemer of any (or no) gender can use any dwemer name.

What was Ayem's pet name for Meri and vice versa?
Meri doesn’t use any for Almalexia at all as a respect thing. She still reveres Almalexia as a god and doesn’t feel it’s her place to give her pet names. They use Ayem and Meht as familiar nicknames, and Almalexia is the only one who calls Meri by her full name (Meridian).
Almalexia has a few pet names for Meri, all vaguely referencing some kind of ownership or possession lol. My star (referencing Meri being the Nerevarine. Meri doesn’t like this one but would never say so.), pet, and (my) little scrib being the main ones.

Blue, Red, or Purple?
Blue has always been my default because I was obsessed with the Fremen and their eyes at the time I played Morrowind, before I even realized Morrowind had been was partially inspired by Dune. In addition I always headcannoned that those were original Nerevar’s eyes as well. I don’t think there is specific lore on the eye colours of Chimer, just that they had golden skin a-la Ayem and half Vehk.
Purple could be similar to Karliah who had Nocturnal’s influence. Azura guides Nerevarine, so purple would fit as “chosen” by Daedric Prince.
Red is well standard Dunmer red, they do look way too pretty.
(anyways I probably stick to blue as I’m way too attached to them, its hard to let go of things you came up with 20 years ago, but its fun to sometimes shuffle them)

@profanetools tagged me in a tag game :)
describe one wip you’re planning to work on over the summer: my tesfest output has simultaneously been under my expectations and yet pretty much where i figured they'd be. i filled out what i'd like 2 do for each prompt and was quite happy with my ideas but i still have some i really really need to get a jump on... and even if its not done in time for tesfest i can always come back for em. anyway the next targets are "forgotten" about a certain emperor of tamriel's severed head and "teeth" which i had a really great sentence written about hunger and mundus but have not yet figured out how to expand it
recommend a book: the only thing ive been reading is moby dick. if you want to hear about the hidden gem ive been digging into over the summer im sorry to disappoint you. i've been reading about whales. i would not recommend it to the average person i'm doing this as part of a wider character research thing. would love to know more about the characters in the book and less about the length of a whale's skeleton if i'm being quite honest
recommend a fic: in the process of drawing @everybodyknows-everybodydies 's character kharish for artfight i dug into some writing on her and really really enjoyed this one abt mirabelle and fellow wizards... but if you dont want to read about restoration rearranging people's organs i highly recommend any fic involving kharish and colette on her blog. the greatest will-they won't-they in the history of tamriel
recommend music: firstly ive been getting a kick out of this site that lets you listen to radios of different countries in different time periods. been very handy during artfight. but as for specific songs that've been in my head lately:
The Theme from Big Wave by Tatsuro Yamashita
Stayed Away Too Long by The Littlest Man Band
Best Clockmaker on Mars by Sturgill Simpson
share a piece of advice: genuinely just writing myself a sentence for what I want to do with a piece has been an interesting and fun way of getting my writing brain in gear. you probably shouldn't wait weeks to start, admittedly. but it was fun to just put something down as a prompt to myself. got the ball rolling
tagging @everybodyknows-everybodydies bc i already did so why not <3 and @ayem can receive this in 2-3 business days, do as you please
