Young Lucia learns a harsh lesson about the world in Windhelm
Based off my alternate telling of the main storyline of Skyrim, where the Dragonborn is none other than the little orphan girl from Whiterun. I’ve had this story stewing in my mind for several years now and I think I might be close to actually writing it. The main premise is that Lucia is unable to adventure on her own (considering her age and lack of survival experience), so a small group forms with the goal of protecting her and saving the world. It’s entirely just because I want to write about my favorite followers and have them interact lol, and I thought that the idea of a Dragonborn that wasn’t fully capable of handling their destiny alone was neat (not to mention my love for found family tropes). I found this audio on TikTok and I found it to be rather fitting of one of the scenes in my mind.
Would you be interested in reading it?

I made this short comic for my friend, muldezgron, earlier this year with the intention of coloring it, but I never did! Anyhoo, this is a scene from his AMAZING fanfic “Ingenious Gentlemen and the Persistence of Memory”. If you want a plot heavy, lore rich, absolute banger of a story that will make you absolutely fall in love with Cadwell, I can’t recommend it enough. It’s one of those fics that I know I’ll be re-reading for years to come.

A Cure (for Boredom)
Tumblr media
"He’d hear their voice as he worked, making a half-hearted comment of how they were bored of this, their jokes easing his frustration of yet another complication. Her feet swinging a bit as she sat upon a nearby desk, her gray-blue eyes glued to his hands as he worked on the cure." - Fennorian in Chapter 2
"He never shooed her away when he was working on the cure, despite how annoying it must’ve been to have her taking up half the table space while she lounged there." - Eilíse in Chapter 6

Finally, it is finished! I do have a version with just simple shading, but I apparently couldn't stop there lol

Just a quick note to everyone who followed me for my Skyrim fic idea: I haven’t forgotten about it, don’t worry!! Although I haven’t been able to sit down and type much for it yet, I have been planning for arcs and character developments and recording ideas that I plan to implement. School is just kicking my ass right now and adding work on top of it, I don’t have much time for additional writing at the moment. If you have any questions though, I’d be more than happy to answer them to the best of my ability!

WIP Wednesday
(an hour before it's not Wednesday anymore...)
Thanks so much to @throughtrialbyfire and @ladytanithia for the tags! And anyone else who might have tagged me that I missed.
I tag @kookaburra1701 @gilgamish @saltymaplesyrup and @banjotea
Here's an excerpt from the upcoming chapter of Liminal Bridges (hoping to post next week at some point). It's hinting at some big old spoilers, just as a heads up. But fun spoilers for anyone who's kept up with the story so far.
Liminal Bridges - Chapter Fifteen
...
“What’s that?” Brelyna asked, pointing across the room. “It looks like there’s light coming from inside that tomb.”
Talvas squinted through the dimness in the direction she pointed. “Stay here,” he said, then crept over to the sarcophagus out of which the draugr had emerged, taking care to step over the fallen corpses.
There appeared to be a seam around the inside of the back wall. He cautiously felt around the edge, then gave the wall a firm push. The stone gave beneath the pressure, sliding backwards and sinking sideways into a groove. As the door slowly disappeared into the wall, it revealed a passageway illuminated by torches. He heard Brelyna gasp behind him.
“Do you think someone has been here recently?” she asked.
Talvas pressed his lips into a thin line, brow drawn tight. “I don’t know.” He stepped through the doorway and inspected one of the sconces. “These flames look magical. Like the ever-flame in our ancestral tombs. Maybe the Nords used something similar.”
“Well, which way do we go now?”
Talvas stared down the tunnel, the flow of the air almost seeming to pull him forward. There was a distant whisper in his mind, chanting in rhythm to his heartbeat, like an ancient drum. Under any other circumstance, he might have found this disturbing, but for whatever reason he felt stirrings of… something else. Divine guidance? It felt ridiculous to put it in those terms, yet he could think of no other way to describe the feeling.
“Something’s telling me to go this way.”
He felt Brelyna step up beside him, and he turned to look at her. Her smile was nervous but excited, her cheeks dimpling. Once more Talvas was struck by just how beautiful he found her to be. “Let’s go this way, then,” she said.
The tunnel was narrower and more organic than any they’d been through yet, as if part of a natural cave system. Talvas led the way. Their footsteps echoed mutedly off the rough walls, the smell of earth and mineral pungent. The strange tug in Talvas’s gut seemed to pull him forward, like a fish on a line, all the while the strange whispers grew louder in his head.
“Do you hear that?” he finally asked, turning to look at Brelyna.
She stopped short, her expression turning nervous. “Hear what?”
“It’s like…” Talvas wrinkled his nose. “Chanting.”
Brelyna stopped, turning her head to one side, then the other. “I don’t… hear anything. Do you think maybe you’re hearing your own heartbeat?” “Maybe,” Talvas agreed, his pulse quickening. He most certainly was not hearing his own heartbeat. It sounded like voices.

THE VESTIGE - DRAGONBORN
Many believe, the Dragonborn found out about their heritage after battling a dragon to save Whiterun.
In fact everyone believed it. They assumed their talent with magic and ancient languages was from growing up in the academic sphere.
Both assumptions were completely and utterly wrong. The Dragonborn found out about their heritage and power granted to them by Akatosh, long before the 4th Era.
They found out about their heritage long before Alduin returned, before the Oblivion Crisis, and before the Tribunal Temple fell.
They found out long ago, when they went by a different moniker. A different title for a different age.
The Dragonborn's first title was The Vestige.
Almost a thousand years ago, when the Three Banners War waged. The Vestige discovered who they were in Elsweyr.
When they accompanied Abnur Tharn on a quest to stop the war, only to release Dragons who had been locked away.
No, no one knew of this. It was a secret they kept dear. Few alive knew of the truth, and even then 'alive' was a loose term.
Were dremora ever really alive?
So when Cultists came to attack them, claiming they were the 'false dragonborn' they felt an anger that hadn't surfaced for a very long time. Perhaps not since Mannimarco dared to sacrifice their soul.
After all the trials and tribulations they had been through, someone wants to claim they were a false dragonborn?
They made their way to Solsthiem, a lonely island they had not been to for a few hundred years. Looking for answers, and not giving up until they found some. They did indeed find answers, their face morphing into a smirk when they realized another Daedric Prince was impeding their way, that would simply not do.
Hermaeus Mora was surprised and extremely alarmed when he felt and saw The Vestige enter his realm. He wanted to assume it was a coincidence, but the second the Thu'um left their throat, Herma Mora second guessed himself for the very first time.
Miraak was surprised to run into another Dragonborn, even more surprised to find out they were far older than they looked. He also appreciated escaping Apocrypha with their aid in one piece.

Snippet: The Ice-Blooded Queen of Skyrim
OC: Mingyue Caerhan
For WIP Wednesday, heheheh I just love Ulfric
Jarl Balgruuf shook his head in disapproval, the mere idea of letting his most trusted and closest soldier, a girl he had grown to love like his own daughter, go on yet another journey halfway across the province involving the Divine or the ongoing Civil War was utterly horrifying to him. He'd almost lost it when she flew off as a scrawny teen to fight Alduin, and he'd be damned if he'd let her go off to get involved in the war so soon after her return.
"I am not asking for your approval..." Mingyue mumbled, her shoulders sinking inwards as Balgruuf's steely gaze bore into her. "I-Im going through with this."
"You are too young, Snowdrop." The Jarl sighed, brows furrowed in a mix of concern and exasperation. They've had this conversation countless times before, yet the girl still insisted on diving into trouble. "Too young, and too important."
"You did not say anything when I joined the companions..."
"That was very different, I could have my men look after you." The Jarl leaned forward in his throne. "I've regretted ever letting you out of the castle after what happened in Helgen..." He shook his head. "Are gowns and shoes not enough for you? Jewels and luxury not enough to keep you away from- from danger?!"
Mingyue sunk further into herself. "I defeated the world-eater... I promise I'll be careful."
"I know you are a capable girl, snowdrop. But you have to understand, Ulfric and that imperial general are more dangerous than the dragons. They are scheming, merciless. They would not hesitate to hold you in their claws and use you." He sighed. "You are a bright and beautiful elf, the Imperials would sell you to the Thalmor, and Ulfric... Merciful Mara... I cannot begin to think what he would do to you..." Another sigh escaped his lips as he looked down at the svelted elf kneeled before him. Oh she was so fragile, so lithe in her expression, but she was her own person. She was the dragonborn, and as much as he wished to keep her safe he understood it was in her nature. "But you are right... You are an adult woman now."
Mingyue's face softened, and a small smirk appeared on her lips.
"But please, Dragonborn, promise me something."
He closed his eyes, then ran a hand over his platinum beard.
"Promise me you will stay far away from the Stormcloaks. Far away from Ulfric."

Magicka HC Things I Think About and Use in my Skyrim Fic
Here are a few things about magic, the use of, and the perception of I've been thinking about and using in my fic. These are mostly headcanon and not completely lore or game based, I suppose, for the record. Feel free to borrow any/all of it (:
Some people are more talented with magic than others, but it's a skill all people can choose to study and build upon. It can seem more difficult for some, or come much more easily to others -- just like certain skills in real life.
Similarly, some people will choose not to put in the effort if it doesn't come easily to them. Cultural things can also prevent someone from taking the steps to learn magic.
Mages tend to be able to sense powerful magic in other individuals and creatures. The more powerful a person or creature is, the louder the magic might sound in their head. Many are skilled at detecting this in others, while others who might lack the focus or attention, might never notice this sensation, even if they too are a mage.
Magicka Drain / low Magicka is something most mages can feel approaching before it fully occurs. When it hits, the mage may feel run down and experience symptoms like headache (most common), weakness, blurry vision and become more prone to general irritability. Mages tend to be constantly aware of their stores of Magicka and keep potions on hand to combat this.
Even gifted mages can be stronger in certain schools of magic and weaker in others. It tends to be very rare that an individual becomes a master of all spells in all schools.
Some mages might know spells somewhat innately -- or have learned the needed words accidentally just from listening to other mages or happening upon them in other kinds of texts.
Some mages are born with much more Magicka than others. This is fairly obvious and well known for some of the races on Nirn in comparison to others, but it could have things to do with their birthsign and other conditions that aren't outwardly obvious. Most mages can improve their stores of Magicka with dedicated practice of their craft.
Quiet Casting, Dual Casting and other advanced spell techniques can be learned with practice at the cost of more Magicka. Many mages will go their whole lives without being able to understand and implement these techniques, but just like with magic in general -- some casters can pick these things up much more easily.
Prolonged, consistent exposure to certain types of poisons (Ravage Magicka, Damage Magicka) can prevent Magicka from regenerating for long periods of time. These are slow to leave the body once built up, even with Restoration and other types of healing techniques and as such are effective ways to imprison necromancers or mages using other outlawed spells.
Some people can pick up new magic much more quickly than others. This does not necessarily mean they are more powerful than others, though this is often the case, as they can and likely will read/study at a faster pace than other mages.
Magic can be learned by repetition of specific words which direct Magicka in certain ways. Most people study tomes to find the shape of these words and spells, but those who are gifted to understand more quickly can simply be told the words to learn a spell. Not everyone has the focus needed to learn a spell by sound alone.
Once learned, the spell doesn't need to be spoken aloud in most situations -- instead, the intent is held in the mind and achieves the same result.
Sometimes it takes a long time and a lot of practice for a spell to work as intended -- for most mages, even if they learn the words to a spell quickly, they need to put in the focus required to truly learn the spell. Otherwise quirky things might happen.
Spells can backfire. We see this in certain College of Winterhold quests, but it's much more common -- and not all backfired spells are quite as catastrophically dangerous. Most mages will learn basic safety and proper casting techniques early on in their training. Naturally gifted mages who have no formal training might find this out the hard way.
Some mages won't use their power for battling or even for healing. A lot of them may never fight at all and instead will choose to become scholars. Advancement in spellwork and the understanding of magic and Magicka is usually due to their diligence and their research.
Spells in the illusion school like Calm, Courage, etc can/might work on stronger individuals than intended depending on two things -- skill/strength of the caster and the individual's willingness to set aside resistance. Calm and spells in its line can be used to ease anxiety or panic as easily as they can be used to pacify the furious, provided the individual to have the spell cast upon them does not actively resist the magic.
Ward spells, under certain conditions, can block some (but not all) physical damage as well as magical damage. However, considering they need a constant feed of Magicka, this is unwise to sustain in battle. Ward spells may also shatter if a blow from a weapon (especially an enchanted weapon) or spell is too powerful and the caster's Magicka stores are too low.
Certain spells are illegal by the 4th Era in Tamriel and are no longer actively taught -- but the materials to do so still exist, likely in the Arcanaeum, for the enterprising mage. There are parties who write to the Emperor often to try and reinstate useful magic like Levitation and Water Walking, but have not yet been successful.
Life-Prolonging magic is not well understood. It's a difficult skill that borders on Necromancy. It's known that Telvanni sorcerers are particularly adept at this magic and hold their secrets close to their chests -- but one does not need to be of House Telvanni to begin their studies in these kinds of spells.
Enchantment magic is a way to keep spellwork more permanent. Some of these enchantments function similarly to blessings from the Gods -- in that they affect, more or less, the luck of the wearer (ie: a circlet of archery may not give the wearer better eyesight to aim with, but instead would increase the odds that they'll not miss their shot.) Some enchantments provide tangible changes -- such as allowing for elemental damage or elemental resistance.
~*~
This list is not exhaustive or comprehensive! I might add more at another time, if I think of anything else, but I can't right now lol Feel free to add your own HCs about Magicka in the TES universe!

cw: spicy snippet from chapter 11
“how did this?????”
He leaned away from them and closed his eyes, his jaw twitching. They laughed again.
“Did you forget that you can heal me with magic?”
“No,” he defended, “I just- Well, I didn’t… I-“
“Forgot,” they finished for him, barely able to hold back their grin, “Didn’t remember. You forgot.”
Fenn huffed and glared down at them as he clarified, “I was distracted.” Their grin grew into a smirk.
“turn into this!!!”
She regarded him carefully, still catching her breath. Surely her pupils were as wide as his, her face similarly flushed, hair a mess and lips swollen. When he licked his lips, she was caught off guard by the pulse of pure desire that shot through her.
“We don’t need to,” Eilíse whispered back, “We tried it once and can leave it at that.” He shook his head.
“I want more,” Fennorian breathed, voice bordering on begging, “Gods, Elle, I want everything.”
p.s. it gets “worse” 😶
