Giving Back and Kickin' Butt
I was lucky enough to be asked to be on the board at the Southdale YMCA. I never had thought I was worthy to serve in this capacity, but I am gonna give it my best shot.
The "Y" is much more than a swim and gym. They never turn anyone away if they can't pay, and they have countless scholarships available so kids and adults alike can participate in the many programs they offer at our local branch.
Last year, my Edina Rotary friend Ann Platt who was the Chair of the Y board, asked me to put together a group of musicians and do a concert as a fundraiser. I figured I could do that, since I have done that with my company Peterson Music and Events for a while.
The band I had last year was killin! We featured Larry Bragg, former lead signer with Tower of Power; Patty Peterson, voted best singer 7 times by the MN Music Awards (and my "seee ster") and Nicholas David, semi-finalist on The Voice in 2013.
It went so well that they have asked me to do it again this year,
Sunday Feb 8th at the Ice House in Mpls.
This year I am joined by my long time friend, the lead singer and bassist for the Classic Rock group Chicago, Jason Sheff,
The Voice Semifinalist in 2014 Kat Perkins,
and my nephew Jason Peterson DeLaire who plays keyboards and sax with superstar Michael Bolton.
Another cool thing is that I get to rehearse at Minneapolis Media Institute, where I am the Program Chair for Audio and Recording Arts. All my students will get to come and visit while we work out the kinks before the show.
I am honored to lend a hand to such a worthy cause. If you're in the Twin Cities area, I'd love to see you! Details below
