My best friend loves to drink milk! Is there a specific milk that's best for him to drink? Is there a documentary or a website with more information?

no milk is good to drink unless it’s raw milk. it’s because the milk we are fed is:

1) from cows that have been injected with bovine growth hormone to make them grow big

2) homogenized

3) pasteurized

BGH is bio active in humans and not destroyed in the stomach. When milk naturally separated into the water and cream, the BGH goes in the water. homogenization is the process of mixing the cream and water layers to make it palatable. Therefore, cream and cream derivatives (which are not mixed with the water) are healthier because the hormone-laden water is not mixed, so you are spared the hormones.

Pasteurization is the process of heating the milk to kill bacteria. this also effectively kills (denatures) the proteins required for calcium transport to the bones. Without these proteins, the calcium is not bioavailable and does not deposit where it should whcih is the bones. instead it is misplaced anywhere in an attempt to get rid of it. the most common place it will go is your heart and arteries.

Therefore no milk is safe or even healthy to drink since it’s homogenized and pasteurized. there are no benefits to drinking milk since the nutrients can’t even be used by your body. only heavy cream and butter are “safer”

my family is fucking addicted to macgyvering and it's becoming a problem. every time something in this house breaks, instead of doing the sensible thing of replacing it or calling someone qualified to fix it, we all group around the offending object with a manic look in our eyes and everyone gets a try at fixing it while being cheered on or ridiculed by the rest.

it's a beautiful bonding activity, but the "creative" fixes have turned our house into a quasihaunted escape room like contraption where everything works, but only in the wonkiest of ways. you need a huge block of iron to turn on the stove. the oven only works if a specific clock is plugged in. the bread machine has a huge wood block just stapled to it that has become foundational to its function. sometimes when you use the toaster the doorbell rings. and that's just the kitchen.

it's all fun and games until you have guests over and you have to lay out the rules of the house like it's a fucking board game. welcome to the beautiful guest room. don't pull out the couch yourself you need a screwdriver for that, and that metal rod makes the lamp work so don't move it. it also made me a terrifying roommate in college, because it makes me think i can fix anything with enough hubris and a drill. you want to call the landlord about a leaky faucet? as if. one time my dad made me install a new power socket because we ran our of extension cords

#this post was inspired by me using a screwdriver to take the broiler off the wall because the warm water stopped working #while my dad went well there is only cables in there. who are we if we dont find our ways around some cables #damn right!!!!

One of many pieces of information rarely discussed that has stuck with me in studying the Holocaust in a literacy class is that people who survived the death camps often did not survive starvation. It is very difficult for a severely malnourished body to recover from starvation. A severely malnourished body will struggle to process food at all, and many people die in the process of “refeeding.” This is called refeeding syndrome for this reason. Reintroducing food can and often is fatal without careful, medical guidance.

Starvation is one of the most common and effective forms of genocide. What makes it effective is that past a certain point, even if aid has been delivered, it is not enough to save someone from death by starvation. What also makes it effective is that withholding food is viewed as a passive consequence of political turmoil rather than an intentional act of violence among a people. You will see more people die from starvation in genocides across history because it is an effective way to kill many people without the use of state resources.

The starvation of Gaza is intentional. The United States and Israel may gesture that they are delivering or allowing aid into Gaza, but in reality they are active participants in the starvation of Gaza by destroying medical infrastructure, limiting the amount of aid “allowed” in, and blocking aid trucks from entering. Throwing food into Gaza by airdrop at this point in the genocide will not be enough without medical infrastructure to refeed a severely malnourished population. Many will die anyways. Many have already.
