PAINS me when there’s a great sequence in looney tunes but it has a looney tunes trademarked Racism Moment in it so you can’t share it with friends without warning

YEAHHH.. it’s unfortunate but these shorts are as much a reflection of history as they are history, and unfortunately you’re gonna be pretty hard pressed not to run into some (a lot) of problems

that was a pretty big reason as to why i moved my Review Operations to Blogspot—namely because i was tired of condensing everything down to fit the convenience of everyone’s dashboards (and i think i’m overcompensating now because i can never shut up!), but also because the racism is just unavoidable and it’s really not in my place to be like “hey guys happy scrolling here’s some really heinous racial caricatures that unfortunately are a part of this review. i know you didn’t consent to seeing these but at least i said i don’t condone them so it’s okay!!!! because surely that’s what you’re paying attention to when you’re scrolling down your dashboard and reading every single piece of text rather than focusing on the huge images plastered in front of you! sowwy”

it’s history and important history to learn and be aware of, and i’ve definitely learned a lot about where certain stereotypes come from in my research.. it’s very illuminating, but at the same time yeah that’s not really what you go in to watch the shorts for if you’re watching with friends. i had a friend over once and was getting her into LT and showing her Boobs in the Woods (a cartoon as funny as its name) but my internet wasn’t allowing me to skip over That scene—that, if you’ve seen the short, you know what i’m talking about… and leaves me doubly incensed because it’s so well animated! some of my favorite Bill Melendez animation and favorite Porky animation but alas—and i was just like. Welp. sorry you had to see that Gary

but yeah 🙃 these shorts are a product of their time and that can be both a very great and illuminating thing and a very unfortunate thing!
