Last night @northstar.fit I worked on upping the weight of my mace swings. I did 2 sets of 60 swings with alternating grips to balance it out. Working on getting up to my 44lb steel mace from @white_lion_athletics. Not sure if you can see but in the second picture with my hand on the handle of the mace you my fing red fo not reach very well - I am missing the tips of my index and middle finger on my right hand so doing heavier mace work or anything that requires grip can be a challenge. Did my workout in my Flying Guillotine kung fu shoes and then did my Chen Taiji 42 Fajing set and my entire Jiang Style Bagua form with a warm up of four palm structures. Then taught class. My current collection all courtesy of @white_lion_athletics . Been doing the time at home thing so I decided to bite the bullet with the big bad 44lber on the right. The other two are both 12lbers. I have to say while the mechanics of swinging a big mace are the same as a small one, it is a completely different feeling and way, way harder. Today is the second day I managed 2 sets of 10 swings each direction doing 10/2s. It’s been rough and I have to admit there was some fear at first swinging such a heavy mace over my head. It turned into a great learning moment feeling how my ego mind had snuck in and quietly set up around the idea of swinging the heavy mace. Such an indirect and unexpected place to discover a little nugget of fear. Today I crushed a much more solid set of swings and challenged myself with a grip that was almost at the bottom of the long handle. A handle that’s hard to hold onto because it’s thicker than the smaller maces and, missing thw fingertips of two fingers in my right hand makes alternating my grip very challenging!
