I've been doomscrolling through so many dteam blogs these past few days trying to see how everyone's reactions and can I just say how much i resonate with you and your anons 😭. Especially with "I'm angry at them, I'm mad at them, I'm disappointed that they still haven't learned and they're still stupid fucking men who can't get a fucking hint and ALSO I wish I we can sit down and talk to them more sincerely because we want them to be better and believe they can be and they ARE😭

anonieeee im glad this resonated with you i think a lot of people on twitter are only seeing the bad side of it all and a lot of people on tumblr are quick to dismiss the bad side when actually it's all very nuanced. i wasn't watching cate's stream from the beginning but i feel like a lot of the stuff she mentioned Needed to be heard and i really really hope they both watch the vod

what other characters are involved in the story that do not have refs?

hiro hideki. a time traveler from 100 years ago. generally wise and gives good advice, he's attentive and quick to notice change. he’s also incredibly good at noticing small details of a person or place, like how someone’s face changes when they smile. his memories are all over the place, sadly. all he knows is that he arrived at sodor heavily injured exactly 5 years ago out of nowhere and lived in solidute inside the forest until thomas met him.

after retrieving his lost memories and realizing what had happened to him (and eventually, his old hometown and loved ones), he went back to japan and stayed in kotohira for 3 months to process the weight of his situation. his arc (hero of the rails) serves as a turning point in the story, making thomas and percy start to have differing opinions on their adventure, and generally turn the tone of casa tidmouth from light and comedic to darker and cosmically horrific.

scott ficus gresley, gordon's only remaining brother. he's the driver of the flying scotsman (boy, what a coincidence) and is frequently on tour. he's friendly and proud, and he likes to tease gordon by calling him "gordie" or "little brother". however, there's this insecurity inside of him regarding the fear that he'll never be able to put whatever remained of the gresleys back together. sometimes he thinks that gordon is annoyed at him. overall, he and his brother have a generally good - if not a rivalry on one side - relationship.

rebecca nassif, a young newcomer that came to sodor to support her family (they initially had no idea). appears in act 2 when shit starts to hit the fan. gordon took her under his wing as an express driver trainee, and she looks up to him immensely (though she sometimes wishes he wouldn't overwork and be too hard on himself). she became a prominent character in act 2 after.... several important characters went missing out of the blue.

much to thomas and gordon's dismay, she was unaware of the mysteries and occurrences sodor has to offer. they hope that rebecca won't lose her spark someday.

nia wanjala, also a newbie. she appears in act 2 when things starts to get concerning. she and rebecca became friends over the fact that they are the newest recruits in the north western railway and the ones with the least experience. unlike her friend, however, she quickly catches on to the realization that sodor isn't as quirky or happy as she initially thought with how her senior coworkers kept talking about memorable drivers that went missing. she now rocks back and forth between striving for what she considers is safe and what she considers is beneficial to everyone around her.

there are many more characters, but for now these are the more important supporting cast.

I can’t decide if it would be better if Night Terror came about due to Nia losing Brainy or if it was something else and Brainy is forced to constantly clash with Night Terror, desperately trying each time to get through to the Nia he loves.

I also think it would be interesting if due to never being able to sleep properly, Night Terror gets worse and worse as time goes on. There’s an inciting incident that makes her a villain, but as she goes longer without sleep she becomes more unstable and difficult to reason with, and the result is a villain who may not have started out totally insane but has slowly descended into genuine madness as her former friends try and fail to rescue the person they knew.

Ngl my first thought was also what if this was because Nia lost Brainy! 😅

That being said, I think the potential for angst is all the more interesting if Nia's descent into true evil was for something unrelated so that Brainy was still in the picture and the two could clash in the way you described! I'm such a sucker for one half of a ship fighting desperately to get the other to see reason and bring them back from the dark. (There's a reason I'm in love with that tiny dark timeline scene from the 100th episode!)

And okay, yes, I am now totally obsessed with your idea that Nia's state worsens over time so that she falls further and further out of reach from her friends. Although she thinks she's perfectly fine and stronger than ever before without needing to sleep, anyone else with eyes can see just how it's affecting her both mentally and physically until she really does enter a truly unhinged and unstable state.

Maybe at first we see her using this newfound ability of entering people's unconscious states to feed off their most pleasant dreams to fill the emptiness that has nestled inside of her, but this takes a nefarious turn when the result of doing this means taking that happiness from other people permanently and turning them into husks of their former selves. By then, Nia has become addicted to it, to that brief hit of joy that she can't get from anything else, and Night Terror is born from that. She slips further and further away from her friends until no one can make her see reason. Instead, she lets the power of the dreams of thousands upon thousands of unconscious minds fuel her until she becomes unrecognisable as the hero she used to be.

POV: You’re a merchant ship captain and you’re making your crew stay in a relatively small seaside town for just a bit too long (FOR BUSINESS REASONS, DEFINITELY NOT BECAUSE you’ve met a rather attractive sea monster who has just started warming up to you) and you swear the odd girl who’s always too bundled up for the summer heat keeps staring at you whenever you walk past… and are you losing your mind or are her eyes glowing?

Or: Midori has noticed that unlike her crew, who walk around town and chat up locals, Kuvira spends all her free time running off to secluded caves and beaches and the abandoned pier, and she knows exactly what (or who) the reason behind that is since she spent all of her childhood doing the exact same thing

Some design and story notes, because I love talking about this AU~

Like in SotRl, starting from age 4 Midori grew up in Haya’s ‘care’, and while I don’t think she beat her, Midori still ended up with insane self esteem issues, mostly stemming from her being half-mermaid. Haya knew about her brother’s infatuation with the sea serpent and chose to ignore it, which she managed rather successfully right up until one of the products of said infatuation was dropped off at her door. She has no idea Suiren exists though, even as a young child Midori decided keeping her sister a secret would be safer for both of them

She’s human passing enough, but inherited plenty of things from her mother – scales along her shoulders, sides and thighs (though they’re green instead of blue), sharper teeth, ears that morph into fins at the ends, glowing eyes and fully functional gills. The siren song, however, passed her over. Haya, of course, made her hide all of it, along with making her internalise that she’s a freak, a half fish monster who will never fit in with human society, but spirits help her if she refuses to try to conform

The clothes she wears serve no purpose but to hide her differences. As a child she was much more drawn to more open and lighter clothing, shorts and tank tops and the like, but Haya didn’t care. The long skirt and sleeves conceal her scales, long enough that she can safely roll up her sleeves while she works or that gusts of wind won’t ruffle her skirt too high. The scarf goes over top of the already high collar to make extra sure no one will see her gills – she has gotten used to it over the years, but at first the pressure on her gills made her feel like she was constantly choking. Her hair is styled in a certain way that keeps her ears from view, and she was taught not to smile so her fangs wouldn’t be as visible

Mermaid eyes don’t always glow, it’s actually an evolutionary intimidation tactic that can’t really be controlled, and Midori isn’t even aware she’s doing it. With her eye colour it’s easy to write off as tricks of the light, which everyone who notices it always does… apart from Kuvira

Midori and Suiren haven’t talked in a while, both thinking it’d be better for the other this way, and Midori’s current goal is remain as integrated with humans as possible. It’s often hard for her to see the point, she’s too socially awkward to make friends and it’s not like she will ever have a husband or wife, not with her defects. The people in town like her just fine, she’s nice and hardworking, but she knows she will never truly fit in. As a child she used to beg Suiren to let her leave humans behind and take her into the ocean, but they both knew it wasn’t possible. Midori can breathe underwater just fine, but her lack of a tail will make her even more of an outcast among merpeople than she is among humans, and even though her swimming is better than the average person’s, she won’t ever be fast enough to survive the dangers of the ocean. That’s how Midori lives, born into two worlds but never being enough, never truly belonging to any of them, so she can do nothing else but go about her day doing her chores, consciously stop herself from gazing wistfully at the ocean, and keep an eye on that ship captain that seems to have taken a keen interest in her sister.

Oh, and I was messing around with the light pen so here’s a version that highlights exactly what Midori is desperately trying to hide:

The coat itself is a big indicator that this is most likely time lord victorious era ten due to him wearing 8th doctor traveling coat ie the coat before we see 8 again in the 50th with a leather jacket

We've seen Donna's fashion sense and Ten's fashion sense... the only one that wears plaid outfits is Clara Oswald... and currently, Dhawan!Master.
