Daryl Dixon • She/Her Pronouns • There’s only one person on Daryl’s good side and it’s not even his brother. So when certain decisions led to leaving Merle chained to a roof, you were the one to talk to the youngest Dixon • ANGST/SFW/NSFW - Unprotected Sex / Groping / Grinding • TW: Canon Violence

She’s heard it all
Y/N I could use a favor?
Got a second Y/N?
Mind talking to them, Y/N?
Sweetheart, can I pick your ear about something?
It all falls around the same thing. Asking the Dixon Brothers for anything…mainly for help acquiring food within the woods that the sickos haven’t taken for themselves. But they did everything she asked. Some thought it was because Merle would do anything and everything for her attention even if she doesn’t give him an ounce of anything.
But it’s really Daryl. Y/N is the only one that the youngest Dixon brother tolerates and some, more like Glenn alone, believes the Dixon likes her personally.
“Y/N…we need yea for something” Dale didn’t mean to disturb the girl when she was in the middle of another batch of squirrels she was skinning to prepare for the stew.
“Dale. This must be serious” Y/N half jokes as she wipes her knife off with her rag. “You’re usually not the one to ask me for help”
“Right well, you know the drill” Dale frowns removing his bucket hat and squeezing it out of nervous habit. “This isn’t gonna go well”
“If it’s anything like Daryl and Shane fighting over a little dispute about hunting grounds, I think I can handle—-“
“Lori’s husband came back with the Atlanta group, but they left Merle behind hand cuffed to roof” Dale stated without hesitating or letting Y/N process as she drops everything to go check on Lori for another personal matter that almost everybody knows about before thinking of the words to tell Daryl when he returns from his hunting trip.
When Y/N made herself known to the man that left the eldest Dixon behind as she felt a sense of warmth with the family reunion. But she knew that was going to be cut extremely short if Daryl gets his hands on him.
“You’re the Rick guy?”
“You must be Y/N, the resident Dixon whi—-“
“If you call me that stupid fucking shit that Shane came up with, I will hit you in front of your son” Y/N frowns watching Rick zip his lips to let her get to it. “What’s your plan here?”
“I don’t think I get what you mean” Rick laughs slightly only to immediately stop when it wasn’t getting anywhere with Y/N. “Are you talking about getting Merle back? I think we can do a bit of justice without the racist son of a bitch”
“Oh believe me, I agree wholeheartedly with that. But he’s not your family. I think you can agree that if it were you that got left behind, that you would want someone to come and find you” Y/N watches his expression fall making her cross her arms and stand her ground. “Right. You understand that completely and no one came to bring you back”
“Now that’s uncalled for, Y/N” Shane interrupts only for Y/N to take her leave on that note, picking up her axe from beside the put out fire pit.
“Sit with it, Shane. Call me when you have a plan, I have to try and keep his ass from being killed by the man who’s brother you left on that roof” as Y/N leaves the group to follow a familiar hunting ground to find the archer, Rick was left thinking about what she said.
No one came back for him.
The next day came around and the woods were quiet until they weren’t…
“Stupid fucking shit” Daryl curses under his breath over another deer being eaten by another walker.
As he knelt down to get a look at the damage to see if he could take any of the meat back, he heard a shift in the woods. The archer quickly rose to his feet aiming his crossbow and when the figure didn’t make themselves known, he fired.
Daryl instantly tensed when Y/N made herself known with an annoyed expression at him and the arrow in the tree beside her head.
“The fuck is wrong with you?!”
“I should be askin’ yea the same thing!” Daryl scoffs taking the arrow from her hand once she pulled it out. “I could’ve killed yea”
“Yeah well you’d do me a favor” The one thing he hated about her was her joking about death. “You gotta head back”
“Yeah?” Daryl scoffs putting his arrow away. “Ran out of food?”
“No, I’ve given them my squirrels to make a stew out of. But this is more of a matter regarding your idiotic brother”
Why did you give them the food I caught for—-“Wait. Merle? Is he back?”
“Daryl no he—-“ Daryl brushes past Y/N causing her to quickly deflate and follow him back to the campsite.
“Swear, yea think I don’t know they get yeah to talk to me about my idiot brother”
“I mean would you rather have Shane talk to you about Merle? Now Daryl come on. I gotta tell yea—-“ Y/N stops herself when he rose his hand indicating he heard something.
Daryl gave her a quick sign that it was another deer and then Y/N decided to take a second to put the Merle conversation on the back burner.
“They never make it this far up the mountain” Dale frowns staring at the walker that Jim had finished off once the group addressed the children’s screaming.
“They are running out of food in the city” Jim states stepping away from the carcass and the undead beside it.
Before any of them thought of walking back, that’s when the bushes started to rustle some more. Shane instantly readied his shotgun aiming toward the sound until he lowered it along with the others doing the same with their weapons of choice when their resident hunter popped out with the “Dixon whisperer” following behind him.
“Son of a bitch” Daryl scoffs bringing himself over to the deer. “That’s my deer…look at it. All gnawed on by this—“ he quickly kicked the walker out of anger. “Filthy, disease-bearing, motherless proxy bastard!”
“Daryl, come on” Y/N elbowed him when she brought herself close, giving Rick a certain look to watch his words.
“Think we can—-“
“Don’t even finish that sentence, Dar. It’s not safe” She pushes him carefully away from the tainted meat as Shane couldn’t agree more but when his voice spoke up, both gave him an annoyed look.
Then it was time.
“Merle!” Daryl calls out brushing passed everyone as both Shane and Rick gave Y/N a confused look.
“What?! You think I can instantly get through to the guy? It’s a conversation not a “oh by the way” type shit like you pigs are used to” Y/N scoffs shoving Shane to catch up to Daryl.
“MERLE! GET YOUR UGLY ASS OUT HERE” Daryl shouts once more, surprised slightly that his idiot brother didn’t instantly come. “I got us some squirrel! Gotta help Y/N skin’em for the stew!”
“Daryl, hold up. I need to talk to you” Shane caught up pushing Y/N aside as that lead her to give Lori a glare on the matter given she knows her hatred for the man. Not that she fully expresses it given what she’s walked on in the woods.
Daryl slowed his movement turning around to the pig watching him hesitate before getting to it.
“There’s been an incident in Atlanta…about Merle”
The tension grew in the space making the archer give his only close friend there a blank expression that she wasn’t giving him any answer from hers.
“He dead?”
“We’re not sure” And that caused the emotions to rise.
“He either is or he ain’t!” Daryl rose his voice watching the unfamiliar man bring himself over.
“No easy way to say this so I’ll just say it—-“
“Who are you?”
“Rick Grimes—-“
“Rick Grimes” Daryl mocks watching Y/N get closer to the situation. “You’ve got something you want to tell me?”
“Your brother was a danger to us all” Okay… “So I handcuffed him on a roof, hooked him to a piece of metal. He’s still there” Rick states watching Daryl’s rage grow on his face as he takes a step back scoffing slightly with a hint of a chuckle.
“Hold on, let me process this—-“ Daryl laughs with the venom in his tone of voice. “You saying you handcuffed my brother to a roof and YOU LEFT HIM THERE?!”
The silent “yeah” that came out of Rick made Y/N wince ahead of time for what was about to happen next. Even if Daryl didn’t land a punch on either ex-cops. It wasn’t until Shane started to get Daryl into a chokehold that she brought herself over clawing at him to let go.
“Nah he’s gotta calm down before I—-“ And without another thought, Y/N punched Shane square in the jaw to let go of Daryl. She quickly caught his knife under her foot to swipe it away from him trying to get a shot on the new comer. “You crazy son of a bitch!” He barked at her as Y/N quickly stood in front of Daryl blocking him from either of the two.
“Chokeholds illegal asshole” Y/N barked back getting up in his face to have him stand back and away from Dixon. “Seriously. You fucking morons”
“You clearly didn’t prepare—-“
“Oh and you fucking did?” Y/N scoffs at Rick bringing herself to Daryl. “You need to let me fucking tell you next time so this wouldn’t happen. Can’t have them being fucking entitled dicks to the only motherfucker that understands me! Jesus.”
The tension only grew within the group as Daryl couldn’t calm the pounding in his chest when she said such.
“He listens. Rick’s gonna go and get him” Lori was quick to add crossing her arms as she wasn’t exactly happy about the situation. “He’ll listen to about anybody but his wife.”
Daryl waited for the group to disperse before bringing himself over to Y/N, taking her by the arm and dragging her slightly to his tent.
“You’re hurting me—-“ Y/N frowns as Daryl lets go quickly giving her a stern look before taking her hand into his to check the bruising from punching Shane. “It’s nothing.”
“Okay—-Sure” Daryl scoffs. “Yea ain’t coming”
“Seriously? How the fuck—-“
“YOU JUST AINT” He snaps a bit too close to her face resulting in a flinch coming from her as Y/N puffed up. “I don’t trust that Grimes guy and I ain’t letting yea near him after the fucking stunt he pulled with Merle”
“I can handle myself, Daryl.”
“Yeah. No shit. But you don’t have’ta” Daryl frowns feeling her presence grow closer to his person as he towered her slightly. “You didn’t have to stand up for me”
“Little too late for that. I just…wanted yea to know what happened from someone who gives a damn.” Y/N took a step back keeping her attention on him as the look in his expression seemed to want more and that drew the pounding in her chest to get louder. “Well find Merle, and whether you like it or not. I’m coming with”
I can’t lose you. Daryl frowns followed by a nod deciding not to argue further with the woman.
But nothing went their way since returning back to Atlanta, even when returning back to the quarry empty handed…
After taking out the herd that swept through the quarry camp, Daryl didn’t hesitate to shove T-Dog out of the way of getting to Y/N. She strayed from the group when returning to take out a few walkers by Carol and her daughter, he didn’t see her until the dust settled and wasn’t about to lose his mind all over again.
“You bit?!”
“No! Are you?” Y/N went to check his person as Daryl tugged her aside from everyone else back to their secluded corner. “Daryl please just answer—-“ she was instantly cut off by his lips smashing into hers, making her drop her axe to bring her hands onto either side of his face. In her mind the timing could’ve been better but neither of them was going to interrupt the moment. “Dar—-“ she breathed when their lips parted a moment.
“Ain’t bit.” He quickly responds with while returning his lips to hers as he drops his crossbow to his side bringing his hands to her hips gripping them.
Y/N tugged back a bit receiving a concerned look from Daryl until she brought her hands to his belt and he got the idea. He helped her get the belt off that led her to work at the buttons while he slipped her shirt off quickly bringing his hands back to her hips tugging her jeans down steadying her to finish removing them. Daryl brought his lips to hers once more before moving to her cheek down to her neck and then her collarbone working his way down while helping her descend along with him.
“Can’t—-“ He exhaled suddenly making Y/N stop her actions until he pressed his forehead against hers. “Can’t lose yea” he sighs feeling her arms snake around his neck while he positioned himself in between her legs towering her on the dirt.
“I’m right here, Dixon” She returned her lips quickly to his as he feverishly kissed her while bringing his hands below the belt to remove her panties along with pushing his pants and boxers further for his cock to spring out.
While Y/N found purchase on the back of his shirt, Daryl started to push his length in inch by inch listening to her gasps as she dug her nails into the fabric bringing her legs around his lower back. He didn’t move right away and waited for her to adjust once he was fully sheathed.
“Y/N—-“
“Please” Her voice shook with anticipation wanting him to move but there was more to it as she brushes her face against his feeling his lips graze her features. “Please tell me it ain’t just me”
“It ain’t just you, sunshine” He exhales, starting to move thrusting inside of her warmth listening to her quiet sounds wishing he could drive them out but didn’t want anyone to interrupt them.
As he picked up the pace, Daryl felt her tighten around him drawing a low growl to escape his lips feeling her bring themselves to his shoulder and bite down when she felt the cord begin to snap.
“Let go for me, sunshine” Daryl begged bringing his lips back onto hers listening to her hum while bucking her hips against his as he moans into her mouth at the feeling of her unraveling. “Fuck—“ he pulls out quickly before he could climax inside of her.
The archer carefully lays on top of her feeling her death grip on his shirt weaken and flatten her hands against his torso. Slowly bringing one of her hands to run through his hair as they both panted softly remaining in the other’s embrace.
“Y/N…”
“Hm?”
“I can’t lose yea” Daryl frowns feeling her tighten around him for reassurance.
“You’re stuck with me, Daryl” She laughs softly feeling him shift to rise above her to look at her as she couldn’t help the littlest head tilt wondering more of what’s going on in that mind of his. “What is it?”
“Guess this uh…explains a lot of what I’ve been feelin’ lately” He laughs slightly with her joining.
“Truly, and uhm. I hope this…isn’t the only time and—“
“You’re mine, sunshine. We’re something”
“We’re something” Y/N smiles catching a glimpse of his smile before he started to clean themselves up.
It took them long enough.

Why Regular Tree Maintenance is Essential for Property Owners
If you're a property owner, you probably already have a long to-do list to keep your investment in tip-top shape. From fixing leaky faucets to mowing the lawn, there's always something demanding your attention. But have you ever considered the importance of regular tree maintenance? Trees can often be overlooked, but they play a vital role in the overall health and aesthetics of your property, as the number 1 tree maintenance company in Atlanta will confirm. In this blog post, we're going to explore why regular tree maintenance is essential for property owners.
The Beauty of Trees
Let's start with the obvious – trees are beautiful. They add an element of natural charm to your property that no man-made structure can replicate. Here's why you should care about maintaining that beauty:
Curb Appeal: Well-maintained trees can significantly boost your property's curb appeal. Imagine a potential buyer or visitor being greeted by a lush, green canopy instead of overgrown branches and dead leaves.
Visual Delight: Trees offer a sense of tranquility and visual delight. They change with the seasons, providing a dynamic and ever-evolving backdrop for your property.
Shade and Comfort: Trees provide shade, making your outdoor spaces more comfortable in hot weather. A well-placed tree can turn your backyard into an oasis for relaxation and gatherings.
Safety First
Beyond aesthetics, safety is a paramount concern when it comes to trees. Ignoring tree maintenance can lead to various hazards:
Branches Overhanging Structures: Overhanging branches can pose a risk to your property. In a storm, they might break and damage your home, vehicles, or other structures.
Falling Limbs: Weak or dead branches can fall unexpectedly, endangering anyone beneath them. Regular maintenance helps identify and remove these potential hazards.
Root Damage: Tree roots can infiltrate your plumbing and foundation, causing costly repairs. Regular inspections can catch root-related issues early.
Protecting Your Investment
Your property is a significant investment, and trees are a part of that investment. Regular tree maintenance can safeguard your financial interests in several ways:
Increased Property Value: Well-maintained trees can increase your property's value. They are considered an asset that potential buyers appreciate.
Prevent Costly Repairs: Proactive tree care can prevent costly damage. Addressing issues early is much more cost-effective than dealing with the aftermath of a fallen tree.
Insurance Benefits: Some insurance policies might not cover damage caused by trees that were clearly neglected. Regular maintenance ensures you're covered.
Environmental Responsibility
Trees are not just beneficial for your property; they also have a positive impact on the environment:
Air Quality: Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, improving the air quality around your property. This is good for you and your neighbors.
Wildlife Habitat: Trees provide a habitat for birds, squirrels, and other wildlife. Maintaining them ensures a thriving ecosystem in your backyard.
Soil Health: Tree roots help prevent soil erosion and maintain soil health. They also filter pollutants before they reach the groundwater.
A Tree Maintenance Checklist - Seasonal Inspections
Spring: Check for new growth and inspect branches for any damage caused by winter weather.
Summer: Keep an eye out for signs of disease or insect infestations. Prune as necessary to promote healthy growth.
Fall: Remove dead leaves and prune any dead or dying branches before winter arrives.
Winter: Continue monitoring for signs of damage, especially after storms. Remove snow and ice buildup to prevent breakage.
Pruning
Regularly prune to maintain the shape and health of your trees.
Remove dead or diseased branches promptly.
Thin out crowded branches to improve air circulation and reduce the risk of disease.
Be mindful of the timing; different trees require pruning at specific times of the year.
Mulching
Apply a layer of mulch around the base of your trees to conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
Make sure not to pile mulch against the tree trunk, as this can cause rot.
Watering
Adequate watering is crucial, especially during dry spells.
Deep, infrequent watering is better than frequent shallow watering.
Hiring a Professional
While some tree maintenance tasks can be handled by property owners, it's often best to hire a professional arborist for the job. Here's why:
Expertise: Arborists have the knowledge and training to assess tree health accurately.
Safety: Tree care can be hazardous. Professionals have the necessary equipment and safety measures in place.
Proper Pruning: Pruning trees requires skill to avoid damaging the tree. Arborists know how to do this correctly.
Disease Diagnosis: Identifying and treating tree diseases is a specialized skill that arborists excel at.
Conclusion
Regular tree maintenance is not just a nice-to-have for property owners; it's a must-have!

High Hopes

Chapter 4
Tumblr media
The weirdest thing is that a few months ago, Dove wouldn’t think that listening to kids running and playing would sound as sweet as it did.
A small chuckle escaped her as she sat on the steps leading into Dale’s RV. The horrified look on Glenn’s face as he stopped mid-greeting was just as amusing.
“Well. Good morning to you too, sunshine,” Dove squinted as she stood up and moved to stand next to him.
“When did they start tearing it apart,” Glenn frowned as he folded his arms in front of his chest.
Dove shrugged her shoulders, “’Bout a half an hour ago, I suppose.” She ran a hand through her dark hair as she turned her head slightly. Rick was finally awake again. Dove raised a hand to shield her eyes from the sun as she greeted the newcomer. “Mornin’, Rick!”
“Go on! Tear it apart, you vultures.” Glenn scowled and shook his head. Dove couldn’t keep herself from letting out a snort of laughter.
“Generators need every drop of fuel they can get,” Dale stated matter-of-factly as he walked past them.
“He has a fair point. I’d rather have a shower than a fancy car,” Dove mumbled quietly.
“I thought I’d get to drive it another few days,” Glenn sighed.
Dove turned her head slightly as Rick responded, “Maybe we’ll get to steal another one someday.”
This new way of living sure was a hell of a thing when you had a sheriff encouraging grand theft auto.
Dove placed a comforting hand on Glenn’s shoulder, “Maybe an even nicer one! One that’s not going to send an alarm running for miles next time too.” Glenn just let out an annoyed sigh.
Glenn seemed to be resigned to the fact that his car was being torn apart by Jim. Dove patted his shoulder again as she watched him step forward to converse with the other man. Knowing him, he was still probably trying to talk about what a cool car it was to anyone who would listen.
A revving engine caught the attention of a few members of the camp as Shane pulled up. He announced, “Make sure to boil the water before use.”
Carol made her way over to Dove. “Too bad about Glenn’s car, huh?”
The response caught in Dove’s throat as a shrill scream erupted from the woods close by, followed by another voice screaming “Mom!!”
A panicked look was exchanged between the sisters for a moment and then they were both off. Carol screamed for Sophia and the relief was obvious on Dove’s face as the little girl broke through the trees with Carl hot on her heels.
Tiny arms wrapped themselves around her waist as Dove knelt quickly to survey her niece for any marks. “Are you alright, Soph? Nothing bit you?” Sophia shook her head quickly, only able to muster up a panicked whimper. Carol finally broke through the trees behind her and let out a relieved cry as Sophia released her aunt with a cry of, “Mommy!!”
Dove glanced around quickly before she pointed back towards camp. “Take them back now! I’m just gonna make sure everything’s alright!” Carol nodded her head and scooped Sophia up.
Lori, however, eyed her warily for a moment before the brunette disappeared into the tree line again.
As she broke through the trees she held back a hysterical laugh. They were just stood around the damn thing, beating it with sticks. So much for being evolved past a caveman brain.
Amy let out a disgusted groan as the walkers head was finally chopped off.
Dale muttered, “That’s the first one we’ve had out here.”
Jim replied, “They must be running out of food in the city.”
Dove looked over at Amy and Andrea. Both of the sisters were just looking on like a couple of deer in the headlights and she couldn’t blame them. She felt a little nauseous herself.
Branches snapped in the woods and all conversation stopped. Andrea put a protective arm around Amy and Dove took a slow step forward towards the men. Curiosity was a bitch of a thing, but she wanted to see what exactly was going to happen.
Her heart leapt into her throat and plummeted back to her stomach as Daryl Dixon came into view. Her eyes locked with Jim’s in a moment of panic before she quickly looked down at her feet. Honestly, she would rather have a walker run out of the woods right now than have to face the inevitable.
Daryl looked pissed already. Definitely a good sign for them. “That was my deer. Look at it! All gnawed on by this filthy, disease ridden, motherless, proxy bastard!”
Dale shook his head in disgust, “Now come on, son. That’s not helping anyone.”
Daryl’s temper flared up again as he stepped quickly over the walker, headed right for Dale. Dove took a quick step closer to Rick as she eyed the officer, trying to communicate that this was not a good sign. “What do you know about it, old man? Why don’t you take that stupid hat and go back to ‘on golden pond’?”
A surprised laugh, which was able to be quickly covered up as a cough escaped Dove’s lips. Glenn elbowed her slightly in the side and narrowed his eyes once he had her attention. The woman merely shrugged as she turned her attention back to the dead animal. Her stomach did begin to rumble at the thought of venison, or anything other than squirrels for that matter. A sigh left her lips as Shane stated, “I wouldn’t risk that.”
Daryl’s focus drifted to her, almost asking for another opinion. Dove shrugged her shoulders before she slipped her hands into her back pockets, “As good as it sounds, it’s too risky. We got kids to think about and what if they eat tainted meat? Get sick?”
Daryl sighed and shook his head, “Damn shame. I got a few squirrels though. ‘Bout a dozen or so. That’ll have to do.” The calmness in the air broke as the walker head at her feet started snapping its jaw again. Dove let out a startled shriek and stumbled back into Glenn as Daryl shot an arrow into it’s brain. “Gotta be the brain. Don’t ya’ know nothin?”
The focus of the group shifted again as Daryl stalked off towards camp. Dale looked startled, “I don’t see this going well.”
Shane removed the hat from his head as the group started to walk, Dove started to take longer strides to keep up with the two officers. She heard Shane mention Daryl’s name and spoke up.
“I think you guys really need to think about doing this,” Dove spoke, concern in her voice. “I think you oughta try and break it to him as gently as possible. People like him tend to react violently, plus he seems pretty hyped up from losing that deer.”
The two men kept moving, but Rick glanced over his shoulder at her. “What’d you do before this?”
“I was a therapist. Getting ready to work on my PhD. Why?”
She didn’t miss the look the two men exchanged and fell back a step. Glenn flinched as he heard Daryl yell for Merle. “This is gonna be a shit show,” Glenn sighed.
Dove shook her head as Shane stopped Daryl in his tracks. “Poor guy. I got money on Dixon, though. He’s a scrapper.” She whispered so only Glenn could hear. Glenn let out a nervous chuckle as the two of them came to a stop next to the Jeep.
“There was a problem in Atlanta.” Seriously, Dove thought, he’s going to drag it out like this? What a mess.
“He dead?” Dove gripped Glenn’s wrist a little tighter than she meant to as she took a step closer to him.
“We’re not sure.”
“He either is or he ain’t!” Dove couldn’t really blame him for being so angry. She could only imagine how mad she would be if it were Carol on that roof. She would probably be trying to kick the ass of anyone she could find.
“No easy way to say this, so I’ll just say it,” Rick stated as he finally took a step forward. What a time to play good cop, bad cop.
Rick introduced himself, only to be met with, “Rick Grimes, you got somethin’ you wanna tell me?”
“Your brother was a danger to us all. So I handcuffed him on a roof, hooked him to a piece of metal,” Rick finished. Damn, she had to admire how he got right to the point about it. “He’s still there.”
Daryl started pacing like a caged animal. “Hold on. Let me process this. You’re saying you handcuffed my brother to a roof and you left him there?” Daryl shouted. Dove could feel her pulse quickening as a million and one ways that she was trained to de-escalate someone this angry ran through her head. None of them seemed to make any sense right now under the heat from the burning Atlanta sun.
The next few seconds were a blur. Daryl yelled, Dove let out a startled yelp as the squirrels flew towards her, she stepped back closer to Glenn, and just like that, Daryl was on the ground. T-Dog stepped forward, shouting something about a knife. Dove took a few slow steps forward, eyes wide as saucers as she watched Shane bring him down in a chokehold after a few swings of a knife.
“Chokeholds illegal,” Daryl managed to choke out.
Shane sounded too comfortable with it for Dove’s liking. “Yeah, well, file a complaint.” Dove argued with herself internally as she watched Daryl keep struggling to be let go.
Rick knelt in front of the other two men, clearly trying to calm the situation down. “I’d like to have a calm discussion on this topic.”
Dove scowled as she squatted down between the two officers. “Not to tell you how to do your job, but it’s awful hard to have a calm discussion with a man whose air supply is being cut off,” she finished through gritted teeth.
Rick glanced at her and nodded before he turned back to Daryl, “You think we can manage that?”
The two officers nodded at each other and Dove stood up quickly as Daryl finally got released. She watched for a moment, still in shock about what just happened, when she saw Daryl still trying to catch his breath as he pointed at Shane. Dove turned quickly and placed a hand on Shane’s arm. “Just back up, man. Rick’s got it. You don’t need to be bad cop right now,” she pushed him back gently before she walked past the other two men, joining Lori by the steps to the RV.
“You good,” the other woman asked, her eyes not leaving the scene in front of her.
“Yeah just adrenaline rush. I’m fine,” Dove nodded as she brushed her hair out of her eyes. She turned her head slightly and met Carol’s worried gaze through the window of the RV. Dove held her hand up and nodded her head.
“It’s not Rick’s fault,” T-Dog interjected and suddenly the focus was on him. “I had the key. I dropped it.”
Daryl snapped again, “You couldn’t pick it up?”
“Well, I dropped it in a drain.” Dove couldn’t help but roll her eyes at this. This just sounded worse and worse the more they tried to explain it to him. At least no one was dead yet.
Her heart sank as she folded her arms in front of her chest, her focus shifted with everyone else’s as the men moved slowly around camp. She knew that Daryl and his brother were close but, shit. She didn’t expect to see him cry for even a second. One of her hands flew up to cover her mouth as she looked down at her feet.
She wasn’t surprised when Daryl shouted. “Hell with all y’all. Just tell me where he is so’s I can go get em.”
What truly shocked her was Lori. The older woman spoke up from her spot by the door at this. “He’ll show you. Won’t you?” She almost insisted with just her words as she locked eyes with her husband.
Dove was torn between following Lori back into the RV or following after Rick as the conflict came to a close. She, instead, chose to check on Carol and Sophia. Her steps were quiet as she walked up the steps to the RV. Dove slid into the seat at the table opposite of her family and reached a hand out to stroke Sophia’s arm. “Hey, bug. You were real brave out there today,” Dove spoke softly as Sophia lifted her head from her mother’s arms.
Sophia sniffled and rubbed her eyes before she looked between the two sisters. “I was really scared,” the young girl whispered.
Dove smiled a little and nodded her head. “I was too, bug. But you did the right thing by runnin like that. Hell, I don’t think either of us knew you could run that fast!” Carol chuckled softly at this as she stroked the young girl’s hair.
“She’s right, Sophia. You kept yourself safe. That was the right thing to do.” Carol kissed the top of her daughter’s forehead before she whispered for her to do something that sounded a lot like ‘go check on Carl’.
Dove drummed her fingers on the table as her thoughts raced through her head. Carol’s voice finally pulled her out of her own head. “You want to go with them, don’t you.” Carol stated in a hushed voice.
Dove’s eyes shot up. Her hazel eyes widened a little bit as she felt color rush to her cheeks. “I…I was thinking about it.”
Carol clicked her tongue and shook her head. “I don’t want my sister out there dyin’ for someone like Merle Dixon.” Her voice didn’t raise above a whisper, though she didn’t sound pleased at all.
Dove rolled her eyes at this. “That’s not what I was thinking of!”
“Then what were you…”
Dove cut her older sister off as she reached out and took her hand, “What if that was me up there, huh? Or you? Would you want me to just leave you up there like that to die?” Dove hissed. “It’s the right thing to do, Carol. Merle or not, it’s the right thing to do.”
Carol’s eyes widened slightly as she took in her sister’s words and nodded her head slowly. “If that’s what you want to do, I can’t stop you. But I just want you to be careful. I don’t want to be explaining to Sophia why her aunt isn’t around anymore.”
A small smirk graced Dove’s face as she squeezed Carol’s hand gently. “Oh please. I’m always careful.”
It was Carol’s turn to roll her eyes as Dove rose from her seat, kissed her older sister on the top of her head, and descended the stairs out of the RV.
Dove looked around camp before spotting Daryl by the fire. She took a long deep breath in through her nose and out through her mouth before trudging forward. “Hey, you alright?” Dumb question.
“What kinda stupid question is that,” Daryl snapped at her.
Dove raised both her hands in front of her, a tired expression on her face. “Right. Guess I deserved that, it was pretty fucking stupid huh.”
Daryl just stared at her for a moment. He had the type of eyes that made her uneasy sometimes; eyes that could stare right into your soul if you’d let them. “What do you want?”
Dove let out a heavy sigh as she watched Carol approach her laundry station out of the corner of her eye. She stood up a little straighter and crossed her arms in front of her chest. “I wanna go with you and Rick. Try to bring back Merle. I figure the more people, the better. Plus, y’all might need someone to balance out all the testosterone in that car.”
Daryl stared at her again for a few seconds before scoffing at her. “Don’t need no one else out there, especially not you. Can you even shoot a gun?”
Dove grinded her teeth together as she nodded her head slowly. “Well, excuse me. I may not know how to shoot a gun but I am just as capable as Andrea and Jacqui and they go out into the city all the time! Give me a blunt object and I can take out any walker just as good as a gun, I bet.” Her hands were shaking as she unfolded her arms and shoved her hands in her pockets.
“Alright.” Daryl turned his attention from her.
Dove’s jaw almost dropped in shock as she stood still. “Excuse me?”
Daryl turned back to face her, eyes narrowed slightly. “You heard me, girl. You’re grown, you wanna go? Can’t stop ya. Just don’t expect to get your ass saved.”
“Oh don’t worry, I won’t,” a serene smile was on Dove’s face now.
Shane would definitely have to learn to hold his tongue if they were going to bring Merle back as he called Merle a “douchebag”.
Daryl pointed at the man, “Hey, you better watch what you say!”
Shane nodded his head all sincerely before uttering, “No no. Douchebag’s what I meant.”
Dove rolled her eyes and brought the palms of her hands up to rub her eyes, “Dear god what did I do to deserve this.”
Lori spoke up from her seat by what would be that night’s fire. “So what? You and Daryl, that’s your big plan?”
Carol eyed Dove for a moment before the group’s attention shifted to Glenn. “Oh come on!”
Rick spoke, “You know the way. You’ve been there before. In and out, no problem! You said so yourself.” He was right. Glenn wasn’t shy about telling everyone in the group how well he knew the city and he had dug his own grace.
“That’s just great. Now you’re gonna risk three men?” Shane scoffed.
T-Dog spoke up next, “Four.”
Daryl scoffed, “My day just gets better and better, don’t it?”
Dove rolled her eyes, “Might as well get this out of the way now and make it five.”
Dale glanced between them all and nodded his head. “That’s five.”
Shane shook his head and began to pace a little bit. “You’re putting every single one of us at risk. Just know that, Rick. C’mon. You saw that walker! It was here. It was in camp,” Shane lectured. “They come back, we need every able body we’ve got. We need em to protect camp.”
Rick nodded his head, “Sounds to me like what you need is more guns.”
Dove’s head was spinning. Sophia shuffled her feet as Dove walked over to them. She knelt in front of the girl, taking her hands in her as the others talked about the guns. “Now you listen to me, alright? I’m gonna be just fine! I promise. I always am. But I need you to promise me something too okay?”
Sophia nodded her head and listened intently. “I need you to look out for your mama until I get back, okay? Just make sure everything’s alright. Hold down the fort for me. Promise?” She released Sophia’s hands and held a pinky out to her.
Sophia locked her pinky with her aunt’s before she wrapped her arms around her neck in a hug. “Be safe.”
Dove kissed her niece on the forehead before standing up and brushing off her knees. “Be safe, Carol.” Dove hugged her sister tightly before she turned to see what was going on.
Dove lifted herself into the back of the van, her eyes were beginning to glaze over from boredom as she waited before she almost leapt out of her skin at the sound of a horn honking. From the driver’s seat, Glenn let out a startled shout as Daryl stepped on the horn again. “C’mon let’s go!”
Dove rubbed her temples and muttered to herself before placing a hand on the crowbar that she’d managed to sweet talk out of Jim. She would definitely have to make sure that she made it back now.
The young woman blew a kiss to her family as the door to the back of the van was slammed shut and they pulled away.
~
It was oddly silent on the way to the city. Dove positioned herself so she could see out the front windshield. “This is the first time I’ve left camp in the past two months.” She whispered to Glenn and Rick.
Rick turned his head, a sympathetic look on his face. “You might not want to look until we get there, then. Might be a bit of a shock. Trust me on that one.”
Dove took in the man’s words for a moment before she turned and faced the back of the van again.
Daryl finally spoke up for the first time since they started on the road. “He best be alright.”
T-Dog sighed. “The only thing that’s getting through that door is us. He’s fine.”
The van finally lurched to a stop and Glenn called back, “We walk from here.”
Dove groaned as she pulled herself to her feet and hopped out of the back of the van. “Oh shit, I’m getting old.” She mumbled to T-Dog as he hopped down next to her.
T-Dog shook his head at her. “You’re getting old? Just wait ‘til you hit 30.”
Dove laughed quietly as she took off down the train tracks after the rest of the group.
Rick paused as they stepped through a space in the gate that led from the tracks to the road. “Merle first or guns?”
Daryl snapped. “Merle! We ain’t even havin this conversation.”
Dove shook her head and motioned towards Daryl with her free hand, the other still tightly gripping the crowbar. “I’m with him on this. I mean a human life or ammo?”
Rick stared at both of them, clearly trying to keep his cool “We are having this conversation. You know the geography, it’s your call.” He turned to Glenn as the group began to walk.
“Merle’s closest. The guns would mean doubling back.” Glenn stated and Dove wasn’t sure if he was lying or not, but she was grateful for that nonetheless.
Her hazel eyes seemed to take in everything that had happened to Atlanta as they walked through the city. The city she had worked in and know so well was practically gone in a matter of weeks. It made her chest feel tight to see everything, but she knew she couldn’t stop moving.
She stepped lightly into the department store behind T-Dog and in front of Glenn as she went. She stopped, crowbar raised as a walker made it’s way through the aisles of the store. Daryl didn’t waste any time shooting the thing through the head.
Glenn moved forward and directed them to a staircase. It was a lot farther up than it looked, or maybe she was out of shape, but the steps were seeming to take their toll on her as they worked their way towards the roof.
The men reached the last landing as Dove rounded the corner just a few steps behind them. She took the last few steps slowly as she watched Daryl kick the door open after the chain was finally cut.
Something was wrong. Something was very, very wrong. She observed as she ran up the last few steps out onto the roof with the others. Merles Dixon was not a quiet man and he surely would’ve reacted to a door being kicked the fuck open.
Daryl’s screams for his brother turned into screams of panic. Dove’s heart dropped as she stepped out onto the roof behind Glenn and she saw it. A hand flew up to cover her mouth as she fought back the urge to vomit. Merle’s hand laid there on the ground next to a bloody hacksaw but Merle Dixon the man was gone.

Chapter 6
Tumblr media
It was the day after they had lost Beth. Gloria had made sure not to let Maggie see her sister in that state as they buried her. After her funeral, Rick, Tyreese, Glenn, and Michonne had gone off with Noah to his old neighborhood. They wanted to see if there was anything worth scavenging, and Noah needed to try and find his family. They agreed as they knew Beth would have wanted to go with him.
Now, the others who hadn’t gone with Rick and Noah stayed behind to watch the area they had planned to camp for the night. Daryl was sitting on watch and Sasha as well but on the other side of the camp. Gloria was going around to make sure everyone was doing alright, given the circumstances. She had made her rounds with everyone except Daryl and Maggie. She walks up to Daryl with a water bottle and reaches out to him, offering him a water bottle.
“‘M okay.” he says, looking away from her.
“No, you’re not. Take it, Daryl.” Gloria insists.
“‘M fine!” he snaps, then he walks away from her without even glancing at her.
Gloria sighs as she watches him walk away from her. She knew he was hurting from their loss so she didn’t hold it against him for using that kind of tone with her. She knew how he was and he needed time and space to be alone. Gloria doesn’t chase after him and makes her way to the centre of their camp where Maggie was seated, her back leaning on the side of a car, tears staining her face. Gloria carefully sits down close to her and offers her the water bottle, part of her expecting Maggie to snap at her like Daryl did.
Deep down, Gloria felt that possibly Daryl and Maggie both resented her and hated her for not being able to get Beth out of Grady Memorial. They depended on her to get her out safely and she had let them both down. She let everyone down. She couldn’t even do anything when Dawn shot Beth. She’d reached them too late and Beth was already gone. This was all her fault.
“Thank you...” Maggie whispers softly, but she hadn’t taken the bottle.
Gloria furrows her brows in confusion. Maggie stayed in her place, not looking at Gloria but it seems that she felt her confusion as Maggie took a deep breath.
“Thank you for trying... trying to protect me... trying to get Beth out...” Maggie says, her voice thick and full of emotion.
Gloria looks down and bites her lip to keep from crying, “I’m sorry...”
Maggie only shook her head at her words, “you did your absolute best...”
“But it wasn’t enough...” Gloria whispers, barely audible.
Maggie reaches out and puts her hand on Gloria’s, making her look at her sister-in-law. She gives Gloria a tearful smile as if to let her know that it was going to be alright. Gloria forces a smile back at her, wanting to reassure her as well. The two sit in silence for a while until they hear the rumble of a vehicle in the distance then a car door opening and slamming shut in a matter of seconds.
“Gloria! Gloria!” Glenn shouts, his voice in a panic.
She gets up at her brother’s call and rushes over to him, worry pumping through her veins. By the sound of Glenn’s voice, she knew that something must have gone wrong on their run to Noah’s old neighborhood so she grabs the bag of medical supplies before heading over.
“What is it? What’s wrong?” Gloria asks once she meets up with Glenn.
Glenn doesn’t answer her in words, instead he looks back towards the car they had taken for their run and Gloria follows his line of sight. Rick, Noah, and Michonne were carrying an unconscious Tyreese out of the car, his left arm was cut off from just below his elbow. Gloria curses under her breath as she rushes past Glenn to get to him.
“He got bit, we had to amputate... he’s lost a lot of blood,” Rick tells Gloria once he sees her.
She nods at the information and kneels down beside him, examining his wound once the man is on the ground. Gloria sees that they had tried to stop the bleeding as best they could with the resources they had. She removes the bedsheets and towels wrapping the stump where his hand used to be and to her dismay, she sees that it was still bleeding out. Gloria puts her middle and index finger on Tyreese’s neck to check for a pulse.
“It’s weak, but there’s still a pulse, once I stop the bleeding we’re going to need to do a blood transfusion right away,” Gloria says, pulling out gauze from the medical supply bag, “does anyone but Sasha know Tyreese’s blood type? Or does anyone have negative O blood?”
She looks up at Rick as she presses the layers of gauze hard on Tyreese’s wound. She sees him look around at anyone who might have an answer but then he shakes his head at her when he doesn’t get one.
“Glenn, ask Sasha what Tyreese’s blood type is but don’t let her come here, she can’t see this.” Gloria tells Glenn and he nods, following his sister’s instruction right away.
After a while, the bleeding seems to have stopped but Gloria becomes frantic as she sees that Tyreese’s breathing had stopped as well. Rick seems to have noticed this as well as he frowns and feels the man’s neck for a pulse.
“Tyreese? Tyreese, stay with us!” he shouts.
“No... no no no...” Gloria sits up on her knees, “we’re not losing another one...’
She begins to perform CPR on Tyreese. The atmosphere is tense and frantic as the others watch on. Gloria hears Glenn calling out something in the background but doesn’t pay attention, she doesn’t stop even when she hears her name being called. They couldn’t lose another one, not like this. Sasha had already lost Bob to a bite, she couldn’t lose Tyreese too.
Gloria didn’t even notice that Rick had moved from his spot by Tyreese’s side until a hand that was not his grabs hers, stopping her from continuing. She looks up to see Sasha looking down at her brother’s lifeless body. The look on her face broke Gloria’s heart and she lets out a shaky sigh.
“He’s gone..” Sasha whispers, looking at Tyreese’s face as she pulls out her knife.
“You don’t have to...” Gloria says softly.
“I do...” is all Sasha says before she pushes the blade into his temple to prevent him from turning.
Grief looms over the group as they have lost yet another one from their group. After burying Tyreese and putting him to rest, they decided to follow Eugene’s words and continue towards Washington for a chance to survive and find refuge. The group knew that there was no cure or anything to bring the world back to how it used to be, apparently Eugene lied about that. However, he was still certain that there was a place for them there. Without many other choices, Rick decided that that was where they would head.
As days turned to weeks, the group gave up on their cars as their fuel ran completely dry. Their sources of food and water also became scarce, Daryl had been having trouble hunting anything in the dry conditions everything was in. It appeared that it hadn’t rained for weeks on end. Now the group’s main source of food were the acorns Gloria was able to dig up. She made it her mission to keep the group as well fed as possible since she seemed to be having better luck than Daryl when it came to food at the moment. He still hadn’t spoken to her ever since he brushed her off the day Tyreese died.
Gloria was having an internal struggle with herself. She wanted to help the group as much as possible since she feels like she failed them all. First being unable to get Beth out of Grady Memorial, and then being unable to save Tyreese. She hated herself and she felt completely useless. Her inner demons told her that Maggie, Sasha, and Daryl hated her as well for letting them down. Gloria didn’t want to talk to them about it, she didn’t want to make it all about her and how she was feeling. She didn’t want to be selfish that way, if they hated her and they felt better hating her then she would take it, even if it killed her inside.
“Leave me alone.” Daryl says as Gloria tries again to get him to drink some water.
“I’m not leaving you alone until you take at least a sip,” she persists, urging him to take the bottle, “when’s the last time you had any water, huh? You can’t keep going on like this!”
“I said leave me alone!” Daryl snaps, hitting the bottle away from him.
Gloria gasps as Daryl had hit the bottle a little too hard, causing it to fall out of her hands. She misses the regret that flashed in his eyes as she looks at the bottle. He sighs deeply then storms away from her. Gloria bites her lip, trying not to cry as she picks up the bottle. She walks back over to the group and sees Glenn looking at her worriedly. She gives him a tight smile as she throws him the bottle then signs to him that she’s going out to scavenge for food again. Without waiting for him to respond, Gloria turns around and escapes into the woods.
She’d been out in the woods for at least an hour now. She had actually managed to dig up quite a few acorns despite the dryness in the dirt, at least she was able to provide them all something.
Gloria was now making her way back to the camp, still looking out for any potential squirrel-dug holes. She’d been so immersed in looking on the ground that she hadn’t noticed anything behind her until she heard the crunch of dried leaves. Gloria turns around and gasps, stumbling back as a walker snarls at her. It reaches out to her, grabbing her right arm while she pulls a dagger out from her belt. Before she was able to kill it though, she falls back as she trips on a rock. The walker falls with her as its grip on her is tight. Gloria lets out a cry of pain as she feels something sharp cut into her left forearm from her fall.
“Gloria!” she hears her brother’s voice call as he rushes towards her.
Glenn quickly pulls out his knife and sinks it into the back of the walker’s head, roughly pulling it off his sister. He carefully grabs her arm and pulls her to stand up. Gloria picks up her dagger that she dropped when she fell, placing it back in its sheath.
“Are you okay? Are you bit?” Glenn asks, his eyes full of worry.
“No, just cut myself on some sharp rocks or something,” Gloria says as she examines her now bloody left forearm, “what are you doing out here?”
“Looking for you, you’ve been gone for a while,” Glenn says then frowns at the sight of her injury, “are you okay?”
Gloria tightens her jaw at his question then nods to let him know that she was physically fine, “yeah...”
“Let’s get you back to camp and fix up that cut,” Glenn says, then he turns around to start heading back to the camp.
The mention of the camp and remembering what happened with Daryl earlier threw her off. She couldn’t even go out to the woods on her own anymore without anything happening to her. Gloria hated that she had become so weak and useless, constantly needing people to save her. Her emotions were getting too overwhelming as she remembers how she sees everyone looking at her, or rather how her mind made her think they were all looking at her.
“Glenn...” Gloria calls out in a soft voice, making him glance back at her, “I’m... I’m not okay...”
“Hey...” Glenn walks back up to Gloria and carefully wraps his arms around her as she begins to cry, “it’s okay... let it out.”
Gloria clings to Glenn as she weeps, all of her emotions that had built up from the last few weeks catching up with her. Glenn’s hand cradles her head, his other stroking her back soothingly.
“They hate me...” she whimpers, “they all hate me...”
“What are you talking about? No, they don’t,” Glenn tells her, his voice still soft.
“Yes they do! You don’t see how they look at me... I’m a useless, shit doctor who can’t do anything right... I couldn’t help Beth and I couldn’t save Tyreese... I let them all down...” she sobs, her body shaking.
“Gloria, look at me,” Glenn says, pulling away from her and his hands are on her shoulders, making her look at him, “you’re not useless, and they don’t hate you. Trust me, they don’t. You know that I can’t lie to you.”
“You can’t lie, period...” Gloria sniffles and looks down, “I... I thought about just leaving...”
Glenn frowns at her, “what?”
“I didn’t think anyone needed me or wanted me around...” Gloria says, embarrassed and ashamed at her own confession.
“You really don’t see how important you are to the group, do you?” Glenn sighs, “listen, you and Rick are the only ones holding this group together. If it weren’t for you and your weird knowledge of squirrels, we'd all be starving. This group needs you, I need you.”
Gloria looks up at Glenn, “really?” she says in a small voice.
“Really.” Glenn smiles at her reassuringly, “are you ready to go back to the camp? I can bring you your kit if you aren’t.”
Gloria shakes her head then wipes her tears away with her good hand, “I’m good.”
“You sure?” Glenn asks.
“Yeah, plus I want to see the worry and regret on Daryl’s face when he sees I’m hurt,” Gloria says as she starts walking back to the camp with Glenn, she was only half joking as she wanted to put up a strong front for Glenn.
Glenn chuckles at that, “don’t be too hard on him.”
Gloria hums in agreement, knowing that Daryl was going through a lot. It still hurt her that he was shutting her out and snapping at her whenever she was trying to help. When the siblings got back to the camp, they saw that the others had gathered wood for the campfire that was to be lit when it got dark enough. Gloria grabs the bag of medical supplies and sits on a part of the road that wasn’t too far from the group. She noticed that Daryl was sat by Carol, neither of them saying anything to one another.
She takes her focus to her injury, she grimaces at the look of it. There was a gash on her forearm, thankfully it wasn’t too deep. Gloria guessed that she fell on a broken bottle as she began to take out small bits of green glass from her skin surrounding the wound. After removing the fragments, Gloria gets a swab of alcohol and gently dabs it on her wounds, hissing at the sting from the alcohol. On the plus side, the wound wasn’t bad enough to need stitches.
“That looks painful,” Carol says once she made her way over to Gloria, sitting down beside her, “here, let me help.”
Gloria isn’t able to say anything before Carol reaches over and carefully takes her hand, letting it rest in her lap as she gets a bandage from the medical supply bag. Gloria smiles at Carol as she helps her bandage up her wound, appreciating the care she was receiving from her friend.
“You know,” Carol starts, “Daryl’s sorry for how he treated you earlier.”
Gloria nods and looks down, she was slightly embarrassed that the others saw what had happened, “I know, can’t help but be a little upset by it though...”
“I’m not saying you shouldn’t be upset by it, but you know Daryl and how he is. Just like you, he’s going through a lot. Beth’s death... it took a toll on him.” Carol points out, “give him some time, he’ll come back to you.”
“Thanks,” Gloria says, smiling at Carol after she had finished bandaging her forearm.
Carol smiles back at her and pats her shoulder. Gloria then remembers that she hadn’t given the others her collection of acorns yet. She passes them to Carol who helps her take them to the campfire for roasting. Gloria looks around the camp and her eyes catch Daryl’s for a split second as he turns away from her once she looks his way. She sighs but then she notices that he was chewing on a twig. Suddenly, a thought pops in her head and she jumps up and goes over to Glenn.
“Glenn, give me an empty bottle,” Gloria tells him.
Glenn furrows his brows at her but gives her one anyway and no one is able to stop her from running off into the woods again. She looks around at the trees then walks up to one, pulling a dagger from her belt and wedges the blade into the bark. She pries the outer bark off the tree then proceeds to dig into the centre of the tree until a thin liquid begins to ooze out. Gloria then takes the bottle Glenn had given her and tries to get as much of the liquid inside as possible.
“Why’d you run off like that?” Glenn asks her once he finds her in the woods, he approaches her, “what are you doing?”
“Gathering tree sap,” Gloria says simply, “it’ll really help with our water situation, it’s healthy and apparently very nutritious.”
“Where’d you learn that?” Glenn says with a smile as he crosses his arms, he felt proud that his sister was able to snap back to her normal self so quickly.
“You remember the little girl I took care of at the hospital? The one with all the nature books?” Gloria asks, “she taught me that, said that it would be useful if I ever went camping but for some reason had no water.”
“She must be prepared for the outbreak,” Glenn chuckles, he walks up to her, “need any help?”
“I got it, you go back first, I’ll head back right after I get at least half a bottle,” Gloria tells him.
Glenn nods, trusting her word, he goes back to the camp. Gloria waits for the bottle to fill up as much as possible before the sun goes down then takes the bottle away from the tree, screwing the lid on then heads back to the group. Rick looks at Gloria expectedly and she assumes that Glenn had told him about the sap. She gives him the bottle and he smiles at her, thanking her silently before she heads back to where she had put her things by Glenn. As the sap was getting passed around, Gloria started to finally feel a little more useful than she had. Maybe she was wrong about how the group saw her.

Next Chapter
As I warned earlier, a rather depressing chapter with the loss of Tyreese, then Daryl just pushing everyone away, and Gloria having a breakdown. I’m pretty sure I gave you all a heart attack when Gloria fell with the walker on top of her and she feels a sharp pain xD if I did, I’m sorry!! I have reasons for it , I swear! Also, sorry for not having any good Daryl Gloria moments (can I come up with a ship name? Gloryl? Daria? Haha) but that will change soon!!!
Please let me know what you thought of this chapter, even if you hated how depressing it was, I’d love to hear it from you ^^
And as always, I would really appreciate any comments left for me! I’ll be replying to any comments in a new post because this is a sideblog!

Your Daryl Adventure 1
Daryl Dixon x Reader
Last Sunday I said I wanted to do a fic a bit more interactive in which after each chapter I you some options and you choose which one you want voting in the comments, and I’ll write the one with more votes.
The first option was how did you want to start, and the option with more votes was: Start meeting the Dixons before getting to the Atlanta camp.
This chapter is longer than the nexts probably because I wanted to introduce the story, and also with less choices variety, hopefully there’ll be more in the chapters to come.
Here we go:
*
As you looked around, the woods seemed the same everywhere, and you were sure you didn’t know where you were, or how to go somewhere…not that you had any idea of where to go, nothing seemed safe. You imagined that, in a way, it was good that the end of humanity had found you during holidays in a rural house in the countryside, considering the chaos you had seen in cities through the tv, until they stopped emitting.
Still, someone at the house had gotten ill and before anyone could do anything, he’d died, and then…then it turned into a monster, killing other people, eating them, you couldn’t think of it again, while others turned into monsters too. Some people had tried to run away, but you thought you were the only one who had managed to do so, running through the woods. You had found a stick of wood that you had used to hit a couple of the monsters, pushing them away from you, and then you had run as fast as you could and hid in the woods.
You had been there for a couple of days alone, you didn’t dare to go back to the house, neither where you sure you knew in which direction you should walk to go back. You were tired, you hadn’t dared to sleep much in case the monsters found you, you were thirsty, but hadn’t found any water, and hungry, but you didn’t dare to take any mushroom or berry, afraid of it being poisonous…but you were so hungry, you were tempted to try anyway.
You didn’t know what to do, you couldn’t stay alone in the woods forever, if the monsters didn’t find you, you’d starve to death anyway…but you didn’t know what to do.
You’d stopped to rest and you didn’t mean to, but you were so tired, that you ended up falling asleep, sitting down against a tree. You woke up with a start, and you were lucky to do so, on time to find yourself surrounded by monsters. You wanted to run away, but they were too close. You grabbed your wood stick and hit one of them with it, pushing it away from you, but when you tried to run you couldn’t dodge another, that grabbed you, making you drop the wood stick as you struggled and screamed, but finally you managed to shove it away.
When you tried to grab the wood stick again, though, another monster grabbed you, this time stronger, and you couldn’t push it away as it relentlessly tried to bit you, until suddenly, it stopped, falling dead on top of you and pushing you down with it.
You pushed it away from you, reaching for the stick of wood, and realized that the monster had an arrow in its head. Another was reaching for you and so you pushed it, and when you looked up you saw a man bashing a crossbow into the monsters’ skull, before dropping it and taking a knife from his belt, sinking it into the head of the other two remaining monsters while you looked at him dumbfounded.
You had found another person…or rather, another person had found you, and he killed monsters as if it were his everyday business…maybe you had gotten lucky…he seemed a bit dangerous, though.
“You bitten?” The man barked at you when he finished with the monsters.
“What?” You were still a bit in shock. “No…no, I don’t think I am…thank you, you saved my life.”
“It’s gotta be the head, you know nothing?” he scoffed, waving his knife towards the monsters.
“I…” You chewed in your lip and shrugged. “I suppose I don’t. I don’t even know where I am” The man just stared at you, and you didn’t know what to do or say. “I’m Y/N.” You introduced yourself, but the man still didn’t say anything, and he began to pick up the arrows that he’d shot. “Are you alone too?”
“No, with my brother,” he explained while he cleaned the arrows with a rag he took from his back pocket. “I was hunting when I saw you.”
“Well, I’m thankful you saw me…”
The man looked at you again, and his deep stare made you nervous. Then, he removed his bag and handed you a canteen. “Water.”
“Thank you,” you drank greedily, you didn’t want to drink all his water, but you were so thirsty you couldn’t help it, even if it hurt your empty belly.
“You hungry?” The man asked you, and you bit your lip but finally nodded, and the man took out from his back a package. He opened it and passed you some dried meat, and you couldn’t help the way in which you devoured it, which made him hand you the whole package as he saw you were starving.
“Thank you, really, thanks.”
He looked at you in silence for a moment that felt eternal to you, and you still didn’t know what to do or say. “You can come with me and my brother, if you wanna.”
“Really?” You asked and he just nodded. You thought about it, but there was no much to consider. The man had saved your life, but he seemed kind of dangerous, and to go with a man that you didn’t know had always been dangerous, not only a man but two…but you were alone, with no food or water, and surrounded by monsters, it wasn’t like you had many choices. “Okay, okay, thank you.”
The man just nodded. “Come on.”
You rushed onto your feet, taking the wood stick and following the man as he began walking. “What’s your name.”
“Daryl.”
“Well, thank you for everything, Daryl.”
You followed Daryl into a small camp with two tents and a campfire. There was a man there, who you guessed was Daryl’s brother, and if Daryl had seemed a bit dangerous, this other man did look more than a bit dangerous, and you began to feel apprehensive at having come with Daryl. The man got onto his feet when he saw you, looking you up and down.
“What’s that.”
“Y/N, she was attacked,” Daryl explained without looking at you nor at his brother. “She’s alone, told her to come with us.”
“Oh, so baby brother played hero and got himself a woman?” Daryl’s brother wiggled his eyebrows at him, and you didn’t know what to say, standing there awkwardly, looking at the brothers, and Daryl just scoffed. “And how are you going to repay the kindness?” The man looked at you.
“What?” You stammered.
“Yes, baby brother rescued you, and now it seems we’re taking you in, feeding you…how are you gonna pay for it?”
“I…I don’t have nothing…” You began to fidget.
“I wouldn’t say you have nothing.” The man looked at you up and down, arching his eyebrows and you, and you felt anxious when you realized what he meant. This had been a bad idea, you shouldn’t have gone with two men you didn’t know.
“I don’t…I…I’m leaving…” You weren’t sure they’d just follow you and take you with them, though, you had gotten yourself into a mess.
“Wait.” Daryl reached out for you and you flinched away, looking at him with scared eyes. “Just shut your mouth for once!” He glared at his brother before looking at you. “He doesn’t mean shit.” You looked at him, unconvinced and still scared. “He won’t hurt you, I won’t either.” You didn’t know what to do, but you had to admit that, no matter how Daryl looked at first glance, he seemed genuine saying so. “Right, Merle?” He looked at his brother again, and Merle shrugged and nodded, though you were unsettled by his smile…but still, Daryl really seemed to mean it, and your other choice was to going back to starve and run from monsters alone. “Okay?” Daryl looked at you again and you nodded.
Daryl walked towards the opposite side from where his brother was sat down and he sat down on the ground, gesturing at you to sat on a log beside him, and you did, feeling very awkward and out of place, and still nervous.
“So, let me get it straight, you saved her and she hasn’t to thank you in any way?” Merle began, and you thought Daryl seemed as awkward as you. “And she’s gonna stay here, eating from our food, with our protection, without paying for it? That’s it?”
“That’s it,” Daryl muttered.
“Doesn’t seem that fair to me,” Merle said, and Daryl just shrugged, but you felt uneasy.
“I’m sure I can contribute with something…”
“You can, but you didn’t seem very on board with it.” Merle chuckled.
“Just shut up and let her be, she doesn’t have to do shit!” Daryl snapped.
“Look at that, he rescues a girl and get’s all important in his head.” Merle laughed. “Alright, alright, all yours.” Daryl didn’t say anything else, and Merle just looked at you both before speaking again. “You came empty-handed, there was no game today?” He said mockingly and you were confused before realizing he was speaking to Daryl.
“Didn’t have time before I found her.”
“Oh, so she won’t only eat our dinner for free, we don’t have dinner thanks to her.”
“We still have squirrel stew left,” Daryl said, glaring at his brother while you fidgeted, looking anywhere but at them, and Merle didn’t say anything, just hummed, but when you looked at him, he had that unsettling smile on his face again.
Hours passed in which you just stayed there in silence, nor knowing what to do with yourself, and you watched Daryl making arrows in silence, not seeming talkative…everything was so strange, and uncomfortable, you didn’t know how the make conversation, and you didn’t want to talk to Merle…you had found people, but it didn’t seem you were going to become friends…
When the sun was going down, your stomach growled embarrassingly loud, and your cheeks blushed a deep red. Merle chuckled and Daryl looked at you.
“I should have fed you sooner.”
“No, no, it’s okay.” You chewed on your lip, embarrassed.
“I’m gonna heat the stew.”
“Wait, brother, we got a woman here now and she ain’t paying for shit, but at least she can do the cooking,” Merle said, looking at you with half a smile.
On one side, you wanted to snap, but on the other, you were alive thanks to Daryl, he and his brother had taken you in and were going to feed you, without asking for anything…well, at least Daryl wasn’t asking for anything. So yes, you could cook.
“Okay, it’s the least I can do.” You shrugged, but you only looked at Daryl, not at Merle, Daryl was who you were thankful to. “You saved my life after all, killing those monsters, giving me water and feeding me, and taking me here.”
Daryl just shrugged, seeming awkward, and he looked away from you even when passing you a canteen with stew, that you heated on the campfire. It was good, and you drank the last bit of your bowl and then some more that Daryl poured you, you were so hungry you couldn’t care of Merle laughing at you at how eagerly you eat.
“You can sleep in my tent,” Daryl told you once it was dark, and you felt apprehensive again, wondering if maybe he might expect something from you after all, but somehow Daryl didn’t strike you like that. “I’m fine outside, weather is good.” Oh…
“You already did so much for me, I can’t kick you out of your tent.”
“You can come share mine,” Merle winked at you, and sure, you felt bad for kicking Daryl out, but you felt a bit safer inside a tent than outside, even though you knew it wouldn’t protect you from walkers…or from Merle.
“I’ll stay in Daryl’s…thank you, thank you so much.” Daryl just shrugged without looking at you, and he got up and went to his tent, getting it ready, and taking a blanket to make himself some sort of sleeping bag. “You…you’ll stay right outside the tent....yeah?” You asked, feeling silly and weak, but you couldn’t help yourself, you thought you would felt safer if he did. Daryl looked at you and you chewed on your lip, fighting the urge to look away, and then he nodded.
“Alright…I’m going to sleep…goodnight, and thanks for all.” You said, getting into the tent, smiling a bit when you went to zip it and saw Daryl placing his blanket right the outside of the tent.
*
The next morning, when the sun wasn’t up yet, you woke up startled when you felt something in the tent…had a walker gotten in? Had it killed Daryl? Was it going to kill you? Was it Merle?
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” Daryl’s voice made you feel a tiny bit better. “I needed to take something, I’m going out, didn’t mean to wake you, I’m gonna go hunting.”
“Oh…okay…how long will you be away?”
“Until I’ve hunted enough.” Daryl made to leave the tent, but you reached out for him, though he flinched before you could touch him.
“Wait.”
On one hand, you didn’t feel like staying at the camp without Daryl, only with Merle, not with the way he looked at you, with that smile, even if Daryl said he wouldn’t do shit…but on the other, you didn’t want to go with Daryl and be a nuisance, you didn’t know anything about hunting, and you didn’t want to ruin his hunt, besides, you couldn’t fight the monsters like him, and you didn’t want him maybe having to protect you and save your ass again while he had a task in hand…not to mention you could easily end up being eaten by monsters, maybe even turn Daryl into monster’s food too…
What should you do….
*
First things to choose!
A) Go hunting with Daryl, but you can’t fight and there might be walkers around.
C) Stay at the camp, hopefully safe from walkers, but with Merle there.
The voting closes on Sunday 24 of May.
Also, if you’re up to it, tell me what you thought of this.

Father Daughter Duo Ch.2
Chapter 1 Chapter 3  Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6
Tumblr media
Chapter Title: Traveling. Pairing: Eventual Daryl x Oc. Setting: Before the Prison, still not into the story line of the tv show. Word Count: 2,375. Warnings: attempted rape in this chapter and rape in a future chapter along with other messed up situations. You have been warned. Note: Also another crap/builder chapter.
I had always been attached to my dad. Even though I never went hunting with him or even participated in target practice. I was always around him, always there to hand him tools when he needed them or hold the flashlight as he worked on his truck, Old Red, that he tried his best to keep in good condition even though we never seemed to have enough money to buy the parts that he needed. I was always quiet and always did what I was asked. He was a hard, stern, and short tempered man, but he had his small ways of showing how much he cared. When my mother died and the world pretty much came to an end it only made his fuse that much shorter.
So when we figured out that the place in Atlanta that was supposed to be safe was a danger zone we set out together in search of living people. We found some in an old nursing home. Most of them were Mexican and were always speaking Spanish, but they welcomed us when they figured out that we weren't there to take their weapons and medical supplies. The fact that we had raided a small sporting goods store helped, because they needed all the protection they could get. We stayed there for quite a while and had I started to come out of my shy shell. I was getting to know the people. Surprisingly Dad had too, even though he had always been a bit racist.
Guillermo, the leader of the group, and I had became friends and he had even started teaching me how to speak Spanish when ever we had the time. My dad kept telling me that I needed to be learning how to defend myself and not useless stuff like learning a different language, but at that time I felt safe enough not to bother with gun lessons.
"Usted es un hombre guapo" Guillermo told me to say it so I tried to mimic his perfect accent. I guess I got it right because he flashed his perfect teeth at me in a big smile. "You're not so bad looking yourself." I blushed and looked at myself. I was nothing special. My dishwater brown hair was a mess of waves, there were a few zits on my face, and I had lost a little weight over the past two weeks, but I was still what I liked to call full figured even thought I was a little bigger than that.
I looked up at Guillermo feeling the heat on my cheeks as he put his hand on my face. The nice warmth of his skin against mine didn't last long though, because we heard my dad clear his throat from the door way of the storage room we were working in. His eyes were hard as he grabbed me by the arm and gently pulled me out into the hallway.
"Ya can't trust guys around ya like that baby girl. Yer twenty years old ya should know that men are gonna try to take advantage of ya." I shocked myself when I rolled my eyes at him. "I don't think he's that kind of guy, but still, don't be alone with him from now on ok?"
"Yeah, ok." He was about to walk away. "Hey Dad?" he turned around and looked at me with the usual hard expression he wore on his face now days. "Wanna teach me how to use this thing?" I held up the gun and he nodded. We were walking down the hallway when we heard everyone screaming. The nursing home had somehow been over run. There is no doubt that I would have died that day if it wasn't for my dad. My back was against the wall, literally, and a walker was at my front as I screamed and struggled to hold it off of me. Dad swooped in, shot the walker with his shot gun and shoved me to the back door of the building. We ran and jumped into Old Red and left the city for good. Soon we were driving through a little town that I wasn't familiar with and neither of us had spoken since we left the massacre of the old group. "Hey Dad," I broke the silence and he hummed at me letting me know he was listening. "Thanks for saving me back there."
"Yer my daughter, I'll always save ya." I was quiet again for a while.
"Hey Dad," he hummed again. "I love ya."
"I love ya too Bay." After that he started explaining everything about the guns as we drove. He taught me what bullet went with what gun and how to load and clean all of them. Though, he told me not to try cleaning the gun unless he was there to help me, because it was a bit complicated.
It took us a month of traveling to find the next group and I knew the second we were easily welcomed into the creepy church that we wouldn't be staying there for long. To say the people that inhabited the place were over religious would be an understatement. They were dead set on repopulating the earth. All the females of "eligible age", which from what I could tell was 14 years old, were pregnant and all of the men were pigs. The leader of the group insisted that I wear the same drab pastel colored home sewn dresses of all the other women and that I give my gun and knife to my father. I did as I was asked because these were, after all, living people.
It was our second week there and I was sleeping on a twin sized cot in a spare room of the church when I felt my covers move. A hand covered my mouth stifling my scream as a guy slipped into my bed. "Shush." The man who whispered to me flipped me over onto my back. The face of Matt, one of the younger men in the group who was with a woman who was seven months pregnant with his baby, was above my face. I struggled to get away from him, but he got on top of me and held me down. "Time to have some fun." He never took his hand off of my mouth. I was hitting him and pushing at him with my free hand but it was pointless. "Don't act like you don't want me. I see the way you look at me." He removed his hand from my mouth only to replace it with his mouth and force his tongue onto mine. He tasted disgusting, but the revolting taste was soon replaced by the coppery one of blood because I caught his tongue between my teeth and bit down as hard as I could. He screamed and slapped me and I took the opportunity to scream my head off in hopes that my dad would hear me.
The next thing I knew Matt was being pulled up off of me. The sickening crunch of a bone being broken mixed together with a scream and a thud as Matt hit the nearby brick wall. Dad grabbed my hand and pulled me up out of the bed then stuffed all my things into my bag and tossed it to me. We made a quick stop by his room where we grabbed all of his things and he shoved a gun into my hand. "We're getting' out of here. These people are batshit crazy. I ain't havin' some kid tryin' nock up my Bailey bug." He hadn't called me that in a long time. We snuck out of the church through the back door then once again hopped into Old Red and were on the road again.
A week later we were scavenging through a store miles away from Atlanta when we heard the bell above the door ring followed by heavy footsteps that could only belong to men. Dad pulled me down behind the cash register. I looked at him waiting to know what we were supposed to do. He looked at me with the same light blue eyes that were on my face and held his finger over his mouth. "That little red head's a nice piece of ass. What are we going to do with her when we're done?" I heard a cheerful male voice ask.
"What we did with all the rest, kill her." Another man who replied sounded completely disinterested in the question. I looked at Dad with wide eyes. I knew what the men were talking about and I was afraid that my fate would be the same if we didn't make it out of this. He held his hand out palm down and made a motion like he was bouncing a ball, 'stay calm'. I took a quiet and slow deep breath before I nodded. He looked at the gun in my hands, which I had gotten good at shooting over the days of traveling and scavenging, and raised his eyebrows. 'Are you good on ammo?' I nodded my head again and he looked around the cash register quickly taking a peek at the men then continued our silent conversation. I was supposed to shoot the man on the left and he was supposed to shoot the man on the right. He held up three fingers and began counting down. As soon as the last finger went down we popped up from behind the register and shot them both. Dad landed a shot straight to a severely plump mans forehead and my bullet hit a man with a bald head and dark goatee in the shoulder.
We hightailed it back to the truck dodging bullets from other men we didn't know were outside. It was a miracle that we got out of there unharmed. After that we stuck to scavenging random houses in rural areas. This was fine with me, because Dad being the kind to think ahead, gathered things like seeds, tools, and what ever guns and ammo he might find. I, on the other hand, gathered things like clothing, blankets and cooking supplies. I even managed to find some knitting needles and a good supply of yarn. I liked to crochet, knit and almost every thing crafty like that. Before the world went to heck I had started up my own little business selling stuff made out of duct tape. Like flower pens, purses, clutches and wallets. Everyone always thought these were useless skills that were only good for lazy antisocial people. Well, they were wrong.
Anyway, we had been staying in an abandoned farm house out in the woods for a while, because the walker population here seemed minimal and we were tired of sleeping in Old Red. I was sitting by one of the widows watching for my father when he came walking up the rotting porch steps with his newly found compound bow and two squirrels in hand. I wrinkled my nose as I walked out on the porch and he told me to be thankful for what food I got. "I am thankful, I just like rabbit better." He laughed.
"That's my girl." He smiled at me and squeezed my shoulder approvingly. "The only wild animal your mother would eat was deer." I looked at the floor missing my mom and neither of us said anything after that. Dad just skinned and cleaned the squirrel then I cooked it on the gas stove that was in the house. We had just finished eating the bland meat when Dad broke the silence. "I saw a prison when I was huntin' earlier. The place was swarming with walkers, just roaming around, trapped in the fences. I would say I felt sorry for them, but they were all inmates." I thought about what he was saying wondering how the prisoners would have gotten infected if they were all kept in cells.
The little farm house was fine, but we were running out of places to scavenge and gas for the truck was getting scarce. We were constantly having to run from the dead as well as the living. Him mentioning the fences gave me an idea. "Hey Dad." He looked up from the knife he was sharpening. "What if we could kill all of the eaters in the prison and live there from now on?"
"Are you serious?" he had his eyebrows raised at me and a joking look on his face.
"Yeah from the way you talk just camping in the yard would be better protection than staying here. If those fences can hold in that many walkers it could hold them out too, right?" he seemed to think about it for a while.
"We will check it out in the morning. Right now you just go get some sleep. I'll stay and watch out for another one of those herds." I did as he said and went into the bedroom and went to sleep.
Dad woke me up around two in the morning, judging from the battery powered clock on the night stand, for me to take watch. The night went by fast in the anticipation of seeing the prison that Dad was talking about. He came out of the house at sunrise and he started putting all the stuff in the truck. "Dad what are you doin'? I thought we were goin' to the prison." I had been anticipating a hike, not a drive.
"We are. I think I know how to get there without cutting' through the woods. If I do find it we can hide the truck there and we wont have to leave it at this house and hike to it every time we need to go somewhere." I didn't say anything back. I just put my gun on the dash and got in the truck.
We drove for a good while and I was starting to wonder if Dad had gotten us lost. I was about to ask him about it when the prison came into sight. I stared open mouthed at it and I heard Dad chuckle from the driver's seat. "Ya still want to live here?" I couldn't speak.
