i literally cannot escape the clutches of the spain spanish accent. this is thee third time someone has told me it sounds like i studied in spain

Listen I know Spain has its problems (sociopolitically in particular as a concern to me) but goddamn if I don’t have the best time on every stay. Was thinking about this earlier in the week, have I ever had a bad day in Spain? Even one minute where I wasn’t enjoying myself? And I couldn’t recall a thing 😭

#might fuck around and add to my already odd accent/terminology mix of ceceo (the lisp) yeísmo and blend of Mexican and spanish phrases #the dropped s which is a feature of (among other places) Andalucía #I mean I won’t because as a non native speaker I should enunciate as clearly as possible #but what if……….#spanish speakers around the world already look at me funny because my pronunciation is ok but then ceceo is so distinct #and they quickly find out I know like 15 words total #but listen those 15 words…..I say them really fluently lol #me hearing myself tell the cab driver voy al parque Federico Garcia Lorca: damn that speed 👏

question for anyone who is either learning portuguese or knows it. are verb conjugations the same as in spanish but just with an m instead of an n???

like for comer instead of comen is it comem is it gonna be this easy or am i gonna be tricked fifteen lessons down the line

was talking to a friend about how i was in speech therapy as a kid and how i still can't really pronounce my s's and r's properly and she went oh. so you have a sorta lisp? and it absolutely floored me

#never in my life did i consider i have an actual speech impediment but I GUESS I DO? i mean i don't think its a LISP lisp but yknow #and i was talking to my mom about how it's worse in spanish to the point where i just cant say certain words #so she tried to get me to say relacionado and i simply Could Not do it. like at all. and she was like yeah you have an impediment #like OKAY. took 17 years to realize that i guess #interesting to think about.#now it all makes sense lol

though, ok, now i’m wondering: would some people’s speech sound disorders/speech impediments be less apparent if they were in an area with a different accent or different language?

#like i know abt the myth of ‘ceceo’ being due to a spanish king having a lisp #(ceceo literally just means lisp but i’m referring to the thing where several spanish accents pronounce ‘c’ and ‘z’ sounds as ‘th’)#(which is a bit of an oversimplification but whatever)#like in spanish and other languages with the trilled R is not being able to do the trilled R considered a speech impediment?#(though in a lot of cases i’ve found that native english speakers who can’t trill their r’s just don’t know how to do it right #and can sort of do it once told the right way to do it bc they’re trying to base it off the tongue placement of the english r)

How do I manage to say so much and so little at the same time

#when i speak in person i feel like my vocabulary skills are that of a young child who reads a lot #like i say things but i dont quite know what they mean or my point gets lost along the way #and online im so... i know theres a word for it but i cant remember it. i put way too many words in my sentences. so much filler.#i feel like im getting worse at English as i learn Spanish which makes sense except that I'm nowhere near conversation level in Spanish #and I'm always slurring my words and saying stuff incorrectly... either with a random southern twang or a little bit of lisp #i cant say Rs anymore in some contexts. Library of Wuina.#bothers me a lot but i sound insane complaining to others about it lol!
