Saw Dune: part 2 yesterday, and it made me remember these character/costume designs I did for the three main houses (and a guild navigator!) a few years ago… the stark, minimalist aesthetic of Villeneuve’s version grew on me over time, but I always pictured the Duneiverse looking a bit more… fanciful, as you can gather from these designs!

To people watching dune parts 1 and 2 I need you to you understand one thing
The spacing guild, you see them so quick in Dune 1 but they are the people walking with the documents guy to transfer arrakis to Leto, they have the weird bubble face helmet things.
Now the spacing guild has guild navigators that get you through space and traversing the galaxies
But here’s the thing, they are so exposed to spice that they sort of live in orange clouds of spice in giant tanks.
in the book they basically say
“Nah the spacing guild is so extreme about there privacy if you try to see the navigators you could fuck up our relationship for freighting and shipping things so don’t be doing that”
Because when I tell you you aren’t ready for what a spacing guild navigator looks like…thank you Denis for not making an attempt to show what a guild navigator looks like and just giving us the sort of space port portal. Because
Drum roll please. This is what a spacing guild navigator looks like
A once human so warped by the amount of spice they have to consume to become a navigator that they are just, fucked beyond repair. Like. Basically this form is how they made them look for the 1984 version. And in the books it’s more think weird humanoid fish things.
THESE ARE THE NAVIGATORS! These are what makes it so you can travel space.
The live in the spice gas, and consume so much of it, they are mutated. And they wanted this, the guild members who strive to be navigators, want to become mutated humanoid fish worm things.
I just I needed others to know what I learned.

Some notebooks I made, my first time using punch binding. I'm so proud of how the turned out!
The one on top is decorated with the Spacing Guild logo from Dune.

I imagine Denis Villeneuve is saving the Spacing Guild for Dune Messiah where they play a more active role in the plot. Can also see him combining them with the Bene Tleilax to save time on explaining all the different factions and avoid confusion with the Bene Gesserit.
