About Afropop Afropop Worldwide is the Peabody award-winning public radio program and multimedia platform dedicated to music from Africa and the African diaspora. Hosted by one of Africa’s best-loved broadcast personalities, Georges Collinet, and produced by Sean Barlow, the radio show is distributed by PRX to over 100 stations in the U.S., as well as stations in Europe and Africa. In 1988, Afropop was launched by NPR as a weekly series. It was the first of its kind and, almost 30 years later, the program has expanded its vision to include the music and cultures that encompass the entire African diaspora. The program is still the standard for both the curious and the connoisseur, and takes listeners to dynamic music capitals such as Dakar, Senegal; Johannesburg, South Africa; Cairo, Egypt; Havana, Cuba; Salvador de Bahia, Brazil; New York and Paris. Listeners meet the leading stars as well as emerging artists. Live concert recordings of world-class artists such as Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Cesaria Evora, Gilberto Gil, Baaba Maal, Kanda Bongo Man and others are featured on the program. Our vision is to increase the profile of African and African diaspora music worldwide, and to see that benefits from this increased profile go back to artists, music industry professionals, and the countries that produce the music. The Afropop database of interviews, features, photos, CD reviews and artist profiles is central to our strategy, as it harnesses the power of what we have done, and allows us to integrate past work with new research to support new projects.

Hip Hop Around the World: Trends in Latest Music
Hip hop, a genre born in the Bronx, New York, has grown into a global cultural phenomenon. It's no longer confined to its birthplace; it has transcended borders and resonated with people from diverse backgrounds worldwide. In this article, we'll explore the latest trends in hip hop music from around the world, showcasing how the genre has evolved and adapted to different cultures and musical influences.
1. Global Collaborations
One of the most prominent trends in the latest hip hop music is the rise of international collaborations. Artists from different countries are coming together to create tracks that blend their unique styles and cultural influences. These collaborations not only introduce fans to new sounds but also promote cross-cultural exchange.
For example, the collaboration between American rapper Travis Scott and British rapper Stormzy on "Franchise" combined their distinct styles, creating a track that resonated with fans on both sides of the Atlantic.
2. Language Diversity
Language diversity in hip hop has become more pronounced. While English remains the dominant language in the genre, artists from non-English-speaking countries often rap in their native tongues. This linguistic diversity not only celebrates cultural heritage but also helps local hip hop scenes flourish.
Korean hip hop, or K-hip hop, has gained global recognition with artists like BTS and BLACKPINK, who incorporate both Korean and English lyrics into their tracks, reaching a broad international audience.
3. Genre Fusion
Hip hop has always been open to genre fusion, and this trend continues to thrive globally. Artists are blending hip hop with local and regional musical styles to create unique sounds. Reggaeton-infused hip hop is a prime example, with artists like Bad Bunny seamlessly merging reggaeton rhythms with rap verses.
In Nigeria, Afrobeat and hip hop are blending to create a new subgenre known as Afro hip hop. Artists like Burna Boy and Wizkid are at the forefront of this fusion, producing music that combines African rhythms with rap elements.
4. Lyrical Content
The lyrical content in hip hop varies widely from region to region. While American hip hop often addresses issues like racial inequality and social justice, hip hop from other parts of the world may tackle different themes specific to their regions.
For example, South African hip hop often delves into post-apartheid issues and life in urban townships, providing a unique perspective on social challenges.
5. Cultural References
Hip hop is rich in cultural references, and these references vary depending on the artist's background and influences. International hip hop often includes references to local culture, history, and folklore, providing listeners with a glimpse into the artist's world.
French hip hop, for instance, often references French literature, art, and history, adding depth to its lyrical content.
6. Online Platforms and Global Reach
The advent of streaming platforms and social media has allowed hip hop artists from around the world to reach global audiences more easily. Platforms like SoundCloud, YouTube, and Spotify have democratized music distribution, enabling artists to gain international recognition without the need for major record labels.
Artists like Russ, who initially gained fame through SoundCloud, have showcased the power of online platforms in propelling international hip hop careers.
7. Regional Scenes
In addition to global trends, each region has its own hip hop scene with its unique subcultures and styles. For example, the UK grime scene has its distinct sound and fashion, while the French hip hop scene is known for its poetic lyricism.
These regional scenes contribute to the diversity and richness of hip hop as a global genre.
Conclusion
Hip hop has become a universal language, connecting people from different backgrounds and cultures. The latest trends in hip hop music reflect the genre's adaptability and its ability to absorb influences from around the world. From international collaborations to genre fusion and language diversity, hip hop continues to evolve and expand its horizons, making it one of the most dynamic and influential music genres globally. As artists from different regions continue to push boundaries and experiment with new sounds, the future of hip hop promises even more exciting and diverse music to explore.

Gold IRA Companies
Best Iras Problems versus gold customers have remained to increase as many individuals are searching for means to obtain much needed money and also are perhaps taking less time to consider choices as well as making hasty decisions on which gold purchasing firm to work with. Not all the financier's guide the people regarding the Preciousmetal IRA monetary investment in the most suitable means. They inform the consumers precisely what all kinds of rare-earth element financial investment choices are treated as Individual Retirement Account. Although Newcrest Mining Limited was established in New york city, it is now among the biggest gold mining business out of Australia. The business's mines are concentrated in Australia, with supplementary procedures in Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and the Cream Color Coastline. Addwest Minerals reopened the mine in 1995 and also laid out a 2.6 million ton gold resources at an average ore quality of 0.355 decide Au. In 1998, the mine closed because of depressed gold rates after producing 88,000 ounces of gold. The company now reports that it has 524,000 tons of reserves at an ordinary grade of 0.23 opt Au. Addwest (Mohave Desert Minerals) resumed the mine in 2007 as well as put its initial gold bar in 2010. In the same way that the household home need to not be considered as a financial investment, gold is not really an investment per se, instead it is a type of 'conserving for a wet day' or of economic insurance coverage. It is to be taken property of or kept with a safe 3rd party and also should not actually be traded like shares and stocks. One does not trade an insurance coverage and thus as a form of financial insurance, physical gold must not be traded. Zimbabwe-Shona minstrel Thomas Mapfumo (2) concentrated on the genre of political tracks (chimurenga songs) that remained in vogue throughout the civil war. Replacing electric guitar (Jonah Sithole) and also drums for the mbira thumb piano and hosho rattlers, Mapfumo developed his very own individual crossbreed of African and also western music on cds such as Gwindingwi Rine Shumba (1980 ), while Chimurenga for Justice (1986) opted for a mellower noises and introduced a weak fusion of reggae, heart and rock. The world's largest gold ETF - SPDR Gold Depend On (GLD) - saw three successive weeks of internet inflow in May. This recommends that more customers are returning to the bullion market after months of marketing. The variety of GLD shares outstanding boosted 5.0 million last week, after climbing 3.7 and also 2.5 million in the prior two weeks respectively. Gold rates as well as the number of impressive GLD shares have shown a strong positive correlation in the past (chart below). Consequently, a sped up speed of registration to the ETF may be considered as a favorable signal for costs. Exchange Profession Funds (ETFs) are cousins of shared funds. They represent baskets of stock that are dealt like supplies. Generally, there is an one day hold-up after a sell order is placed on a shared fund; ETF sell orders are executed promptly during hrs. Throughout a market accident this distinction could be significant. There are other advantages. Except for brokerage fees for trading ETFs, there are none of the upkeep charges connected with mutual funds. Also, there are no loads penalties associated with opening a shared fund account. As a rock canine as well as prospector, keep in mind that several of the greatest geologists in the history of Wyoming walked over lands consisting of numerous gems and also did not see any gems - most were concentrated on other aspects of geology. The only geologists I'm aware of who saw any kind of gems in Wyoming over the past 4 to 5 years were Dr. David Love, Dr. Mac McCallum as well as Dr. George Snyder. Every one of the thousands of other geologists to stroll the containers and varieties in Wyoming missed all kinds of treasures as well as gold. Based on my experience, only a really little part of Wyoming has actually been prospected for gems (possibly 5 to 10%) while the rest of the state is large open for prospecting (if the damned bureaucrats will leave you alone). In addition to the gold-bearing shear areas (lodes), cupriferous veins with Au and also Ag values are found at a number of places in the belt. Since of the lack of tonnage, these blood vessels have little economic worth. They are hardly ever greater than 2 feet broad as well as pinch and swell over brief ranges along strike. However, one Cu-Ag stockwork discovered along the northwestern flank of the belt might be of passion. The degree of the stockwork is unknown since it exists under dirt in a large aspen grove. Get hold of examples of the mineralized rock produced 3.23 % Cu, 3.2 ppm Ag, and 0.16 ppm Au (Hausel, 1991). Can housewives as well as stay-at-home mamas obtain Roth or Typical Individual Retirement Accounts? Here are some typical misconceptions regarding opening a Spousal IRA. There are additionally brokerages with reduced minimal financial investment IRAs that can help get you started. Gold is pointed out frequently in the Old Testament, starting with Genesis 2:11 (at Havilah ), the tale of the golden calf, as well as several components of the holy place consisting of the Menorah and also the gold altar. In the New Testimony, it is included with the gifts of the magi in the very first chapters of Matthew. Guide of Revelation 21:21 defines the city of New Jerusalem as having streets "made from pure gold, clear as crystal". Exploitation of gold in the south-east corner of the Black Sea is claimed to date from the time of Midas, and also this gold was very important in the facility of what is probably the world's earliest coinage in Lydia around 610 BC. 83 The tale of the golden fleece dating from eighth century BCE may describe the use of fleeces to trap gold dirt from placer down payments in the ancient world. From the 5th or 6th century BC, the Chu (state) distributed the Ying Yuan, one kind of square gold coin. Best Rollover IRA Accounts 1. Physical Coins - Gold as financial investment purposes has actually been around for countless years, and so started the minting of coins. Coins have the benefit of being tiny, portable, and also they hold a tremendous quantity of wealth in a little dimension. These treasures can be purchased from lots of dealerships online or at your regional coin supplier. That may or might not be the case, relying on just how intelligently you have invested throughout the years. So, many people maintain both a Roth and also a standard IRA. It is in some cases recommended that the conventional account be surrendered right into a Roth, to ensure that you can have the tax obligation advantages of both. It is allowed under the IRS regulations, but the majority of brokers and also banks bill roll-over charges. I have actually constantly wished to buy realty, however prior to I had a self guided IRA, my trustee would just "sneer at" as well as or else prevent my rate of interest. Now I have the ability to hold property assets, which have actually always been one of the safest possessions to have. With the existing problem of our economic climate, I can really feel safe recognizing that my investments in property are risk-free and also not in danger of being shed with the following financial institution or investment home collapse. The disagreement is frequently made that holding gold in a mutual funds is the very best means. While it can be very easy to acquire silver and gold in this manner, it is not the least expensive. When you buy in a fund, the investor goes to the grace of the fund supervisor and also has no control over their charges or expenditures inside the fund. The goal is preservation of concept as well as keeping prices down, this is not the case with a gold common fund. Rare-earth element anomalies are also reported in black shales and phosphorites of the Phosphoria Development (Permian) in the Overthrust Belt of western Wyoming. These rocks host anomalous Ag, Au, Cr, Cu, v, and zn (Love, 1984). The U.S. Bureau of Mines as well as the UNITED STATE Geological Study record rocks from the Phosphoria Development to have high silver values (as long as 2,600 ppm) and anomalous gold (0.2 ppm) (Allsman and others, 1949; Love, 1984). Precious Metals IRA Reviews Precious Metals IRA Rollover Twitter also recognized 13,512 more automatic Russian-linked accounts that tweeted election-related material during the period, bringing that total amount to 50,258. In the company's post, it additionally reported better safety strategies found 60 percent extra questionable accounts last month than it did in October 2017. They're improving at observing automatic task, Twitter claims: Near-instant respond to tweets, too-regular Tweet timing and coordinated engagement are all red flags. In 1895, a prospector called John Gleeson prospected near Blue-green as well as located copper and also opened the Copper Belle mine. Other mines were established as well as the brand-new mining camp was called Gleeson Mines in this district operated till copper rates decreased leading to mine closures in the 1930s (Hausel, 2019 ). You'll additionally want to ensure that target-date funds get on your broker's list of funds. These are investments that become more conservative as the time frame (the date of retired life) methods, which is a good suggestion since you don't want a great deal of volatility near or during retired life. Robert Shiller, the 2013 Nobel Laureate economist, writing in the New York Times, declares the globe has actually never experienced an occasion like the Covid-19 pandemic. The devices of Analytical evaluation and also artificial intelligence, powerful as they are, can't appropriately assess what the globe is experiencing." When asked if the market is affordable today, Shiller responds, It's not as highly-priced as it was just months back." He frets that the marketplace may reproduce the experience of the Great Depression. From 1929 to 1932, the S&P 500 shed three-quarters of its worth and did not return to the exact same degree till 7 years later. PVD is a more technically sophisticated procedure than gold plating approaches. A gold haze is put on a base metal item, through a vacuum procedure or ion bombardment. (Seems crazy, ideal?) A layer of titanium nitride adds sturdiness to the gold layer. This is commonly liked for watches, which frequently flex as well as rub against the wrist, because the result can use an extra long lasting gold color than gold plate. Gold IRA Companies

The Kissing Booth 2: The Kissing Booth 2 is a 2020 American teen romantic comedy film directed by Vince Marcello, from a screenplay by Marcello and Jay Arnold. The film is a direct sequel to the 2018 film The Kissing Booth. Based on the novel The Kissing Booth 2: Going the Distance by Beth Reekles, the film stars Joey King, Joel Courtney and Jacob Elordi with a guest appearance by South African upcoming actor Zac Kruger.
The film was released on July 24, 2020, by Netflix. It received negative reviews from critics, although critics called it an improvement over its predecessor.
Handlung: The film starts with Elle narrating her time with Noah before he leaves for Harvard. Her senior year starts with her classmates gossiping how she and Noah will eventually break up, making her fear as Noah has befriended an attractive girl named Chloe as she checks his Instagram. Elle and Lee are planning the kissing booth again for the Charity Fair, while Lee is trying to convince Elle to have Marco Peña, the attractive new transfer student to be one of the kissers. Elle beats Marco on the dancing game forcing him to participate in the booth. Noah suggests Elle apply to Harvard, which clashes with her plans to study at Berkeley University with Lee (where their moms met and became friends). Elle does it without telling Lee.
Elle visits Noah in Boston, meeting his new friends and Chloe, making her more insecure. She finds an earring below Noah’s bed making her angry and confronting Noah, who assures her nothing has happened between him and Chloe and asking her to trust him. Elle talks with her father about college tuition and learns money is a problem, and is willing to participate with Lee on a dance competition with a cash reward for the first place. Lee has an accident on one of their practice sessions (later revealed to be fake) and proposes Marco to become her dance partner, which she isn’t too happy to accept but eventually does. As Marco and Elle start passing time together they grow closer, and an attraction between them initiates.
Unbeknownst to Elle, Lee’s relationship with Rachel is having problems, as Elle is going everywhere with them and not letting them have their time as a couple. After leaving Rachel waiting at the movies she asks Lee to talk with Elle, promising he will but never does. The Halloween Dance arrives, and Lee forgets to tell Rachel that they changed costumes (Rachel was a marshmallow while Lee and Elle were going to be crackers making a smore) upsetting her even more. Elle shares a dance with Marco, almost kissing him but stops when listening to the OMG girls gossiping about her.
The day of the competition Lee finds on his car trunk Elle’s applications to Harvard, angering him. Elle and Marco excel at their performance and she kisses him at the end of their dance, not knowing Noah was on the crowd causing him to walk away. Elle wants to go after him in the moment her and Marco are announced the winners. Thanksgiving dinner happens at the Flynn’s residence, where Noah arrives with Chloe, upsetting Elle who is confronted by Lee for not telling him about her application to Harvard and Rachel being upset with her as well. During the dinner, Rachel discovers Lee never spoke with Elle and breaks up with him leaving. Elle tries to convince Rachel to reconcile with Lee but is unsuccessful. She also gives back the earring to Chloe, who confirms it belongs to her. She reveals that one night she slept in Noah’s room when he was out and left it there.
The day of the carnival arrives, and both Lee and Rachel reconcile after being blindfolded and kissing each other at the kissing booth. Elle is also blindfolded and is approached by Marco, who wants to talk with her about their feelings. Elle admits to Marco there is an attraction between them, but tells him she loves Noah and goes looking for him at the airport. Chloe tells her that he went to look for her, Elle finds him in the shelter park where they kiss and confess their feelings for each other.
At Graduation, Lee shares with Elle that he was accepted at Berkeley and asks if she received a response which she answers she was waitlisted at both Berkeley and Harvard. When Elle opens both envelopes in her room it turns out she was accepted in both universities, which will force her to make a decision: go to Harvard with Noah or Berkeley with Lee.

Film is a work of art in the form of a series of live images that are rotated to produce an illusion of moving images that are presented as a form of entertainment. The illusion of a series of images produces continuous motion in the form of video. The film is often referred to as a movie or moving picture. Film is a modern and popular art form created for business and entertainment purposes. Film making has now become a popular industry throughout the world, where feature films are always awaited by cinemas. Films are made in two main ways. The first is through shooting and recording techniques through film cameras. This method is done by photographing images or objects. The second uses traditional animation techniques. This method is done through computer graphic animation or CGI techniques. Both can also be combined with other techniques and visual effects. Filming usually takes a relatively long time. It also requires a job desk each, starting from the director, producer, editor, wardrobe, visual effects and others. Definition and Definition of Film / Movie While the players who play a role in the film are referred to as actors (men) or actresses (women). There is also the term extras that are used as supporting characters with few roles in the film. This is different from the main actors who have bigger and more roles. Being an actor and an actress must be demanded to have good acting talent, which is in accordance with the theme of the film he is starring in. In certain scenes, the actor’s role can be replaced by a stuntman or a stuntman. The existence of a stuntman is important to replace the actors doing scenes that are difficult and extreme, which are usually found in action action films. Films can also be used to convey certain messages from the filmmaker. Some industries also use film to convey and represent their symbols and culture. Filmmaking is also a form of expression, thoughts, ideas, concepts, feelings and moods of a human being visualized in film. The film itself is mostly a fiction, although some are based on fact true stories or based on a true story. There are also documentaries with original and real pictures, or biographical films that tell the story of a character. There are many other popular genre films, ranging from action films, horror films, comedy films, romantic films, fantasy films, thriller films, drama films, science fiction films, crime films, documentaries and others. That’s a little information about the definition of film or movie. The information was quoted from various sources and references. Hope it can be useful. ❍❍❍ TV FILM ❍❍❍ The first television shows were experimental, sporadic broadcasts viewable only within a very short range from the broadcast tower starting in the 1930s. Televised events such as the 1936 Summer Olympics in Germany, the 19340 coronation of King George VI in the UK, and David Sarnoff’s famous introduction at the 1939 New York World’s Fair in the US spurred a growth in the medium, but World War II put a halt to development until after the war. The 19440 World MOVIE inspired many Americans to buy their first television set and then in 1948, the popular radio show Texaco Star Theater made the move and became the first weekly televised variety show, earning host Milton Berle the name “”Mr Television”” and demonstrating that the medium was a stable, modern form of entertainment which could attract advertisers. The first national live television broadcast in the US took place on September 4, 1951 when President Harry Truman’s speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference in San Francisco was transmitted over AT&T’s transcontinental cable and microwave radio relay system to broadcast stations in local markets. The first national color broadcast (the 1954 Tournament of Roses Parade) in the US occurred on January 1, 1954. During the following ten years most network broadcasts, and nearly all local programming, continued to be in black-and-white. A color transition was announced for the fall of 1965, during which over half of all network prime-time programming would be broadcast in color. The first all-color prime-time season came just one year later. In 19402, the last holdout among daytime network shows converted to color, resulting in the first completely all-color network season. ❍❍❍ formats and genres ❍❍❍ See also: List of genres § Film and television formats and genres Television shows are more varied than most other forms of media due to the wide variety of formats and genres that can be presented. A show may be fictional (as in comedies and dramas), or non-fictional (as in documentary, news, and reality television). It may be topical (as in the case of a local newscast and some made-for-television films), or historical (as in the case of many documentaries and fictional MOVIE). They could be primarily instructional or educational, or entertaining as is the case in situation comedy and game shows.[citation needed] A drama program usually features a set of actors playing characters in a historical or contemporary setting. The program follows their lives and adventures. Before the 1980s, shows (except for soap opera-type serials) typically remained static without story arcs, and the main characters and premise changed little.[citation needed] If some change happened to the characters’ lives during the episode, it was usually undone by the end. Because of this, the episodes could be broadcast in any order.[citation needed] Since the 1980s, many MOVIE feature progressive change in the plot, the characters, or both. For instance, Hill Street Blues and St. Elsewhere were two of the first American prime time drama television MOVIE to have this kind of dramatic structure,[4][better source needed] while the later MOVIE Babylon 5 further exemplifies such structure in that it had a predetermined story running over its intendevd five-season run.[citvatio””&n needed] In 2007, it was reported that television was growing into a larger component of major media companies’ revenues than film.[5] Some also noted the increase in quality of some television programs. In 2007, Academy-Award-winning film director Steven Soderbergh, commenting on ambiguity and complexity of character and narrative, stated: “”I think those qualities are now being seen on television and that people who want to see stories that have those kinds of qualities are watching television. ❍❍❍ Thanks for everything and have fun watching❍❍❍ Find all the movies that you can stream online, including those that were screened this week. An Unbiased Internet?
My extended family recently watched Green Book, the 2018 film starring Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen. The film tells the true story of Don Shirley, an African American pianist, and his white driver/bodyguard Frank Vallelonga, as they travel through the Deep South for Shirley’s musical tour, using The Negro Motorist Green Book to safely guide their journey. In the first few pages of Distributed Blackness, André Brock references “the Green Book as an example of distributed Blackness - an informational artifact linking Black information seekers to Black cultural resources across a network” (p. 3), referring to the actual Green Book, not the film. After watching this film and reading Brock’s book, I have spent some time reflecting on how I have never had to navigate a system that was not built for and by people like me. A privilege of being white and female. This reflection has prompted me to take a more active and critical stance on how online spaces contribute to oppression and inequality.
Built-in bias.
“Race has never been fairly considered as a contributor to [internet] culture. Whiteness is rarely understood as an element of internet culture(s) even though the vast majority of creators, coders, engineers, venture capitalists, and designers are white or white-adjacents” (Brock, 2020, p. 124).
Today’s internet relies on algorithms for just about everything. These algorithms are created by humans (primarily white and male, see quote above), and are trained using data sets - which humans also create.
Yaël Eisenstat, ex-CIA officer and former head of election integrity for Facebook from June to November 2018, says that “No matter how trained or skilled you may be, it is 100 percent human to rely on cognitive bias to make decisions.”
Eisenstat claims that technology cannot be truly unbiased, and “the tech industry needs to actually invest in real cognitive bias training and empower true experts to address these issues.”
Brock (2020) reinforces Eisenstat’s ideology in Chapter 3. Brock argues that Black Twitter would have remained undiscovered if it were not for 1) the untimely death of Michael Jackson and 2) the 2009 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards. During the program, Black Twitter users cheered and communicated about performances and Black cultural topics began to trend - which caused confusion by non-Black users. Sadly, this is not a surprising fact. Brock posits the following:
“The appearance of these Black cultural topics as informational trends was met with confusion—if not outright revulsion—by non-Black Twitter users. From these Twitter reactions, it is possible to see the hitherto unexplored role of antiblackness in Twitter practice, Western technoculture, and cyberculture.” (Brock, 2020, ch. 3)
Considering that it took a death to bring Black cultural topics to the table and that the raising of these topics garnered a negative reaction - even in 2009, makes me ponder the similarities of reactions related to social injustice issues that have been in existence for decades.
Black-owned businesses in a biased system.
Several weeks ago, after reading Hindman’s The Internet Trap, I realized that “you cannot build a business today without standing on another company’s (digital) shoulders”.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, Black-owned businesses have suffered the most, declining by twice the rate of white-owned businesses. In a recent video, “Why Black-Owned Businesses Don’t Survive”, CNBC explores the historical systems of oppression that put Black entrepreneurs at a significant disadvantage compared to whites and other minority groups. And, it appears that this oppression is carried into the online business realm as well. In July 2020, Google launched the option for businesses to add a Black-owned business attribute to their Google Business profile. This attribute badge was focused on highlighting black-owned businesses within local and map searches. Then, at the start of Black History Month 2021,  Google announced a new search feature to make it easier for users to find and support Black-owned businesses in Google’s shopping tab.   Unfortunately, I’m afraid this was a PR move by Google that really isn’t functional in the marketplace. After testing the feature, I found it is unlikely for a Black-owned business to appear in the shopping tab. I recreated the same search for “planter stands” demonstrated on the Google Small Business Blog, which brought up results for products from big-box stores like World Market, Walmart, Home Depot, IKEA, Wayfair and Target. Taking this experiment a step further, I searched for “planter stands black owned business”.
As you can see from the screenshots below, this search yielded similar, large retailer results, with no products from Black-owned businesses represented on the first page.
Tumblr media
Note: this search was  conducted in “incognito” mode in Google Chrome and should not be influenced by my personal search history.
These results reinforce Hindman’s (2018) argument that a centralized internet stifles the ability of entrepreneurs (especially BIPOC entrepreneurs) to succeed. Perhaps Google will continue to refine this new search feature, as it is only a little over one month old. However, I can’t help but wonder if the former Blackbird “Black Search” would have produced better results for planter stands search.

Museum of Diversity
SPPARC reveals design of immersive virtual Museum
London-based architecture practice SPPARC has designed a virtual museum for cultural not-for-profit organisation, the Museum of Diversity.
Launched Friday October 1st, the Museum of Diversity aims to celebrate the diversity of cultural heritage originating from Africa through immersive virtual reality exhibitions and talks. The new online experience is the first stage in the Museum of Diversity’s wider plan to realise a bricks and mortar location by 2025, also designed by SPPARC.
SPPARC’s concept for the virtual space draws on themes of sustainability, nature, community and connectedness. The museum interiors feature honeycomb forms, a tessellating shape chosen for its structural strength in numbers.
A central rising amphitheatre marks the heart of the museums’ main entrance hall where virtual visitors can meet or move throughout the space to eight standing coloured gallery portals, leading to exhibitions and talks on learning, culture, music, sports, arts, humanities, migration, and innovators.
SPPARC’s brief was to design a zero-carbon museum and transportable roving exhibition ‘pods’. The pods will be manufactured in early 2022 to be distributed to schools and throughout urban public spaces to promote the Museum’s programme.
The digital exhibition hall and pop up exhibition pods have been designed as early iterations of the future physical museum. SPPARC is working closely with the Museum of Diversity to source and inspect possible locations in London, and will continue to advise and design more virtual galleries for the expanding programme of events.
The Museum of Diversity launches at the beginning of Black History Month, with two free exhibitions including the Croydon Murals: Mayor of London Bridging History and the Museum of Diversity Digital Concept.
Trevor Morriss, Principal at SPPARC says: “To be a part of such an innovative, inclusive and community-focused project is a wonderful thing. As a studio, SPPARC always looks at the local history and culture of our projects’ sites, but our approach to the Museum of Diversity was more about drawing on the rich and varied histories of African communities and creating a space for them to be celebrated centre-stage.”
Troy Richards, Chairman and CEO Museum of Diversity said: “Our key partner SPPARC has prepared the design for the Museum of Diversity building, without them, we could not have visualised this concept. The concept and resulting virtual space is a reflection of the studio’s long-held interest in culture and people, and shows their commitment to making accessible cities and places for all. We look forward to continuing to work with them on the development of our future spaces.”

Istanbul: Kadiköy
I raced out of work on Friday afternoon to get myself to Frankfurt airport for my flight to Istanbul. I'd managed to get four consecutive days off and I wanted to cross another country off my bucket list! My flight had several screaming children and a flight crew that looked like they'd never sold so many meals before, they were running back and forth frantically distributing sandwiches and passing the card machine between each other. I arrived in Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen airport at around 9pm and tried to find my way to the Hampton I'd be staying in for tonight. I was told to take a "yellow car" aka a taxi, and it would be 10-15 lira. The driver sped us down the motorway at breakneck speed and within five minutes he was ushering me out of the passenger seat. I checked in and spent the evening talking to Jo on the phone and eventually fell asleep in the early hours of the morning. I woke up excited to start my day despite not having slept very much. Downstairs I had my breakfast in the near empty restaurant; I chose wedges and sausages with Turkish bread and halva and some cereal. I lounged around getting ready slowly for the next few hours until check out time when I left and caught the bus to my next hotel. The bus was totally full and I think I was lucky to slip inside the doors at the last second! I presented the driver with a 5 lira bill like I knew what I was doing and when he questioned me I showed him my slip of paper with the destination and stop name written down. Later I saw other passengers casually passing 5 lira bills to the driver so I was convinced that I'd seemed local for at least a few seconds! The ride took about an hour and I had to stand the entire time, but at last I arrived at my next Hilton where I was promptly checked in to my executive room on the 16th floor. The window was very dirty but the views were pretty nice from up that high! The receptionist Songul insisted I have a welcome cup of Turkish coffee in the lobby before I headed out in the early afternoon to Kadiköy. The metro system was a lot faster and easier than the bus but it was just as crowded, thankfully the ride was only 20 minutes this time. Around the train there were signs directing people not to stretch out their legs and belongings across multiple seats and to be courteous and let other people move around so they can get off. As soon as I stepped out of the metro station it was chaos all around me. The square was bustling with people, vendors shouting out loudly what they're selling, rows and rows of flags fluttering around presumably for the Eid al-Fitr holiday. I felt a little bit uneasy with my backpack on as it was so crowded it felt like walking around in a fair or a music festival or something else with hordes of people. I decided to leave the port area and walk up into the neighbourhood of Kadiköy. My first landmark was the bull statue in the freedom square which was always surrounded by people taking photos with it, or people crossing the street as it was in the centre of three main crossings. I had a fresh pineapple juice from a street stand and walked uphill past rows of cafes, street art murals and sculptures. I took a short coffee break at Walter's Coffee Roasters where I enjoyed an iced chai latte and watched all of the Breaking Bad fans flock inside to take selfies in the replica yellow jumpsuits worn by the characters in the TV show. I browsed a few shops in this area but they were so crowded it was difficult to have a good look, there seemed to be the same stray dog problem here as in Greece and huge dogs with thick matted fur lay about the streets throughout the city. I found my way to the central fish market and bought a snack bag of Turkish delight for 5 lira. Next door I bought some baklava to keep my energy up for more street wandering. I stumbled upon a huge police gathering on a side street that I awkwardly walked right through as they stood taking selfies in their riot gear in front of about 6 large reinforced buses lined up down the street. I chose a conveniently positioned place for dinner where I could enjoy a Tombik chicken pita and watch the swarm of riot-ready police as they watched over a protest supporting laborers that marched its way down the street and around the corner. I later read online that although it had appeared peaceful the reports were that police had "attacked" and arrested several protesters. I wandered back to the main waterfront area which was lively with performers and large audiences sitting together to watch the sunset listening to the music. The boys selling bottles of water were still shouting and now other guys selling mussels filled with rice had also set up stands near the point of disembarkment from the ferries. I walked around to the other side where the Kadiköy Inciburnu Feneri provided great views across the Bosphorus river, I sat on some of the rocks to watch the sunset and eat my last baklava treats. On the way back to my hotel I had to take another very crowded train back to Yenisahra standing near some ladies speaking Afrikaans which took me a long time to figure out! It sounded German but not, also Dutch but without the throaty G so once they said some things in English to quote others I could pick their South African accent. This is one of the many games I like to play while I'm doing the wandering solo traveler thing - guessing people's languages! At the Yenisahra station I rode the escalator up into torrential stormy rain and had to run to the bridge for shelter with several others all huddled there. I waited for ten minutes or so for the rain to ease into drizzle then made the dash back to the hotel. I quickly checked out the executive lounge before it closed and then crossed the huge overbridge to get to the outlet mall to see what they had over there. It was mostly more high class fashion shops so I didn't stay for very long!

Career(edit)
Even Closer(edit)
Goapele returned to Oakland after her time at Berklee College of Music, where she concentrated on writing and recording songs. In 2001, she self-released her debut album, Closer, which sold 5,000 copies.(16) At the same time, she was building a devoted audience through her popular live performances in the San Francisco Bay Area. 'Closer' peaked at No. 63 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.(17)
In 2002 she reworked Closer, adding five new songs. With the help of her family, she formed her own independent label, Skyblaze Recordings, to oversee her musical career. She released her first nationally distributed album, Even Closer, featuring the single 'Closer,' through Hieroglyphics Imperium Recordings. 'Closer' was also featured on the soundtrack of the 2003 movie Honey. In 2004, Columbia/SME Records picked up Skyblaze Recordings for worldwide distribution and rereleased the album with additional tracks. She co-wrote and co-produced the entire album, which is a mixture of neo-soul, trip hop, lieder, and jazz. She also toured North America with the band Spearhead. In 2004, Even Closer peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard Charts for Top Independent Albums.(18)
Change It All(edit)

She also appeared on The Orlando Jones Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, ABC View from The Bay and FOX Good Day Atlanta. Her first three releases have garnered praise from the likes of magazines such as Rolling Stone, Nylon, Interview, Marie Claire, Billboard, Essence, and Vibe. She has appeared on the covers of local Bay Area publications San Francisco Magazine, Diablo Magazine, East Bay Express, SF Bay Guardian, Mugshot Magazine, and City Flight,(20) She was named the number-5 artist to watch in the July 2003 issue of Rolling Stone magazine, made the countdown on MTV’s Top 10 Artists to Watch, and collaborated with ALDO Shoes’ advertisement campaign in its fight against HIV/AIDS, which featured artists such as Avril Lavigne, Ludacris, Dave Navarro, Charlize Theron, Pink, Eve, Rosario Dawson, Eva Mendes, Bow Wow, Ziggy Marley, and Kelly Rowland.
Break of Dawn(edit)
On July 10, 2009, Skyblaze Recordings leaked the single 'Milk & Honey' (produced by Bedrock), the first single from her third studio album of the same title.(21) However, in August 2011, she announced that the album would be titled Break of Dawn. The album is being recorded at the Zoo, home of Goapele's Oakland-based Skylight Studios and will feature production from Drumma Boy,(22) Bedrock, Kanye West, Dan Electric, Mike Tiger, Bobby Ozuna (Raphael Saadiq, John Mayer, Erykah Badu), Malay (John Legend, Mary J. Victory(edit)
In celebration of the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa Goapele released the single 'Victory' featuring South African emcee Hip Hop Pantsula, a prelude to her upcoming musical project Victory, which was released in Winter 2010(citation needed) and feature an array of artists from the African continent as well as throughout the Diaspora.(24) The leading track was recorded in English, Setswana, and Xhosa and tries to draw attention to the need for education and resources to combat Africa's most crucial dilemmas. The album will also encompass philanthropy, political and social activism. Proceeds from the project will go to ANSA (Artists for a New South Africa) a non-profit organization working to combat HIV/AIDS, assist children orphaned by the disease, advance human and civil right, educate and empower youth and build bonds between the U.S. and South Africa through Arts & Culture.(25)

The following statement was issued by the Center regarding the award:
We are proud to name internationally acclaimed, Oakland-based (singer-songwriter) Goapele the first recipient of this award. But as successful as she is, Goapele remains deeply rooted in her home community and in the struggle for human rights. We first saw her sing at rallies and demonstrations when both she and Ella Baker Center were just starting out. Today, she is still here with us, side by side, looking forward to a better day for all of our people.
The Ella Baker Center for Human Rights is a non-profit strategy and action center. The stated aim of the center is to work for justice, opportunity, and peace in urban America.

Lyrics to Change It All
Verse 1: They're closing all the schools down Some teachers work for free now And libraries won't be found Cause there's not enough Can you see a change in your town Small close it's ??? I'm trying to sort it out What we're giving up Chorus: Basically There are people left out From living Comfortably can we figure it out I've been waiting Restlessly for the words to a song That would Change it all Change it all Change it all Verse 2: I never found a 9 to 5 That was worth it from my soul Til I I pursued what brought joy in my life And there's something for us all And I still think it is my right And it's the last and one of few To get the luxery for learning Something I could use Chorus: Basically There are people left out From living Comfortably can we figure it out I've been waiting Restlessly for the words to a song That could Change it all Change it all (If the words could change it all) Change it all (Change it all) Bridge: So many laws are changing They say it's the price for war We send over at least ? billions It's hard to believe that years ago people died to fight But history feels so far away History feels so far away We're not fighting for our lives anymore You're not fighting for my life anymore It's hard to know what's really worth fighting for Or is it killing and dying on the streets Chorus: Ohhh Basically There are people left out From living Comfortably can we figure it out I've been waiting Restlessly for the words to a song That could Change it all Chorus 2: Oh! Basically There's enough for us all So Why can't we somehow figure it out I've been waiting Restlessly for the words to a song That could Change it all Change it all (If the words could change it all) Change it all Change it all Change it all If a song could change it all What if we could change it all (Thanks to Quita for these lyrics)

Fresh Artist Fridays: EshayReal
Ishmael Molelekoa is determined to support music and art for all. The rapper-turned-activist from South Africa has a passion for the arts and has made it his mission to make them accessible to everyone in his community. He recently dropped two singles, “Kasiology” and “This Is For My People”, which will support the Midvaal Arts Institute in Johannesburg. This is his message:
My name is Ishmael Molelekoa A.K.A EshayReal. I am situated in Meyerton, south of Johannesburg. After matriculating I further continued my studies and enrolled at Damelin College to study Sound Engineering. During the course I got to learn the qualities of perfecting a song, from the beginning to the end my vocabulary for melodic rhythms has grown from just loving and producing Hip-Hop to eventually creating World music. In 2005 I formulated two groups, StageeToryTape and HoleFraxion; both groups showed the importance of being a performer and what qualities should be instilled to entertain our fans/supporters with good content through our music.
It only made sense that after both groups never achieved enough commercial recognition, that I continue a solo career and take all my creative and technical expertise and redefine the concept of being an independent artist. In 2011 I founded the Midvaal Arts Institution which gave me the opportunity to fundraise over R1 million and create over 1500 job opportunities. The community arts centre has amazing programmes and services such as Awareness Campaigns, Feeding Schemes, Advice and Referral, Business Administration and Internships. All my achievements were accompanied by several awards and that gave the reassurance that I have the passion and commitment to serve my community.
But in 2020 when Covid-19 pandemic came into our lives, our donors and sponsors could not afford to support our initiatives and this is why EshayReal came to the rescue. EshayReal has got plans to save the organization, and that’s through his music and other creative ventures. I have been throughout the years (2007-2020) recording solo tracks that have challenged my creative thinking and producing process, which I have to admit it was quite fun to tease the creative genius in me. This year EshayReal in partnership with African Intelligence Solutions (Pty) Ltd and have partnered up to take the challenge of saving the Midvaal Arts Institution with EshayReal’s amazing sounds which range from Hip-Hop, Rock, Dance, R&B, Gospel, Techno and Reggae.
Technology, Music and Business have now become an important tool for creatives throughout the world to seriously take up the challenge of how we as artists can benefit with Social Media and Digital Online distribution companies. Never before has an artist had so much opportunity to have his music heard throughout the world, and that’s what motivates me to continue to produce great songs. I have also decided to implement a profit taking strategy that will ensure 15% of my sales-downloads and streaming income will be donated to Midvaal Arts Institution to continue our journey of assisting those less privilege, not just in my community but the whole world at large. Thank you for taking the time to read through my musical journey and I am grateful for any exposure that can help make the EshayReal’s brand become a well deserving community SUPERSTAR success story. God Bless the ARTS!

Morgan Freeman (born June 1, 1937) is an American actor, producer and narrator. Freeman won an Academy Award in 2005 for Best Supporting Actor with Million Dollar Baby (2004), and he has received Oscar nominations for his performances in Street Smart (1987), Driving Miss Daisy (1989), The Shawshank Redemption (1994) and Invictus (2009). He has also won a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Freeman has appeared in many other box office hits, including Glory (1989), Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), Seven (1995), Deep Impact (1998), The Sum of All Fears (2002), Bruce Almighty (2003), The Dark Knight Trilogy (2005–2012), The Lego Movie (2014), and Lucy (2014). He rose to fame as part of the cast of the 1970s children's program The Electric Company. Morgan Freeman is ranked as the 4th highest box office star with over $4.316 billion total box office gross, an average of $74.4 million per film.
Early life and education
Morgan Freeman was born on June 1, 1937 in Memphis, Tennessee. He is the son of Mayme Edna (née Revere; 1912–2000), a teacher, and Morgan Porterfield Freeman, a barber who died on April 27, 1961, from cirrhosis. He has three older siblings. According to a DNA analysis, some of his ancestors were from Niger. Freeman was sent as an infant to his paternal grandmother in Charleston, Mississippi. He moved frequently during his childhood, living in Greenwood, Mississippi; Gary, Indiana; and finally Chicago, Illinois. When Freeman was 16 years old, he almost died of pneumonia.
Freeman made his acting debut at age nine, playing the lead role in a school play. He then attended Broad Street High School, a building which serves today as Threadgill Elementary School, in Greenwood, Mississippi. At age 12, he won a statewide drama competition, and while still at Broad Street High School, he performed in a radio show based in Nashville, Tennessee. In 1955, he graduated from Broad Street, but turned down a partial drama scholarship from Jackson State University, opting instead to enlist in the United States Air Force and served as an Automatic Tracking Radar Repairman, rising to the rank of Airman 1st Class. Freeman's service portrait appears in his character's funeral scene in The Bucket List.
After four years in the military, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he took acting lessons at the Pasadena Playhouse and dancing lessons in San Francisco in the early 1960s and worked as a transcript clerk at Los Angeles City College. During this period, Freeman also lived in New York City, working as a dancer at the 1964 World's Fair, and in San Francisco, where he was a member of the Opera Ring musical theater group. He acted in a touring company version of The Royal Hunt of the Sun, and also appeared as an extra in the 1965 film The Pawnbroker. Freeman made his off-Broadway debut in 1967, opposite Viveca Lindfors in The Nigger Lovers (about the Freedom Riders during the American Civil Rights Movement), before debuting on Broadway in 1968's all-black version of Hello, Dolly! which also starred Pearl Bailey and Cab Calloway.
He continued to be involved in theater work and received the Obie Award in 1980 for the title role in Coriolanus. In 1984, he received his second Obie Award for his role as the preacher in The Gospel at Colonus. Freeman also won a Drama Desk Award and a Clarence Derwent Award for his role as a wino in The Mighty Gents. He received his third Obie Award for his role as a chauffeur for a Jewish widow in Driving Miss Daisy, which was adapted for the screen in 1989.
Career
Acting career
Although his first credited film appearance was in 1971's Who Says I Can't Ride a Rainbow?, Freeman first became known in the American media through roles on the soap opera Another World and the PBS kids' show The Electric Company (notably as Easy Reader, Mel Mounds the DJ, and Vincent the Vegetable Vampire[clip]).
During his tenure with The Electric Company, "(i)t was a very unhappy period in his life," according to Joan Ganz Cooney. Freeman himself admitted in an interview that he never thinks about his tenure with the show at all. Since then, Freeman has considered his Street Smart (1987) character Fast Black, rather than any of the characters he played in The Electric Company, to be his breakthrough role.
Beginning in the mid-1980s, Freeman began playing prominent supporting roles in many feature films, earning him a reputation for depicting wise, fatherly characters. As he gained fame, he went on to bigger roles in films such as the chauffeur Hoke in Driving Miss Daisy, and Sergeant Major Rawlins in Glory (both in 1989). In 1994, he portrayed Red, the redeemed convict in the acclaimed The Shawshank Redemption. In the same year he was a member of the jury at the 44th Berlin International Film Festival.
He also starred in such films as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Unforgiven, Seven, and Deep Impact. In 1997, Freeman, together with Lori McCreary, founded the film production company Revelations Entertainment, and the two co-head its sister online film distribution company ClickStar. Freeman also hosts the channel Our Space on ClickStar, with specially crafted film clips in which he shares his love for the sciences, especially space exploration and aeronautics.
After three previous nominations—a supporting actor nomination for Street Smart, and leading actor nominations for Driving Miss Daisy and The Shawshank Redemption—he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Million Dollar Baby at the 77th Academy Awards. Freeman is recognized for his distinctive voice, making him a frequent choice for narration. In 2005 alone, he provided narration for two films, War of the Worlds and the Academy Award-winning documentary film March of the Penguins.
Freeman appeared as God in the hit film Bruce Almighty and its sequel, Evan Almighty, as well as Lucius Fox in the critical and commercial success Batman Begins and its sequels, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. He starred in Rob Reiner's 2007 film The Bucket List, opposite Jack Nicholson. He teamed with Christopher Walken and William H. Macy for the comedy The Maiden Heist, which was released direct to video due to financial problems with the distribution company. In 2008, Freeman returned to Broadway to co-star with Frances McDormand and Peter Gallagher for a limited engagement of Clifford Odets's play, The Country Girl, directed by Mike Nichols.
He had wanted to do a film based on Nelson Mandela for some time. At first he tried to get Mandela's autobiography Long Walk to Freedom adapted into a finished script, but it was not finalized. In 2007, he purchased the film rights to a book by John Carlin, Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation. Clint Eastwood directed the Nelson Mandela bio-pic titled Invictus, starring Freeman as Mandela and Matt Damon as rugby team captain Francois Pienaar.
In 2010, Freeman co-starred alongside Bruce Willis in Red. In 2013, Freeman appeared in the action-thriller Olympus Has Fallen, the science fiction drama Oblivion, and the comedy Last Vegas. In 2014, he co-starred in the action film Lucy.
In 2015, Freeman played the Chief Justice of the United States in the season two premiere of Madam Secretary (Freeman is also one of the series' executive producers).
Other work
Freeman made his directorial debut in 1993 with Bopha! for Paramount Pictures.
In July 2009, Freeman was one of the presenters at the 46664 Concert celebrating Nelson Mandela's birthday at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Freeman was the first American to record a par on Legend Golf & Safari Resort's Extreme 19th hole.
Effective January 4, 2010, Freeman replaced Walter Cronkite as the voiceover introduction to the CBS Evening News featuring Katie Couric as news anchor. CBS cited the need for consistency in introductions for regular news broadcasts and special reports as the basis for the change. As of 2010, Freeman is the host and narrator of the Discovery Channel television show, focused on physics outreach, Through the Wormhole.
He was featured on the opening track to B.o.B's second album Strange Clouds. The track "Bombs Away" features a prologue and epilogue (which leads into a musical outro) spoken by Freeman. In 2011, Freeman was featured with John Lithgow in the Broadway debut of Dustin Lance Black's play, 8, a staged reenactment of Perry v. Brown, the federal trial that overturned California's Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriage. Freeman played Attorney David Boies. The production was held at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre in New York City to raise money for the American Foundation for Equal Rights.
In 2015 Freeman directed "The Show Must Go On," the season two premiere of Madam Secretary.
Personal life
Family
From his early life, Freeman has two extramarital children; one of them is Alfonso Freeman.
Freeman was married to Jeanette Adair Bradshaw from October 22, 1967, until November 18, 1979.
He married Myrna Colley-Lee on June 16, 1984. The couple separated in December 2007. Freeman's attorney and business partner Bill Luckett announced in August 2008 that Freeman and his wife were in divorce proceedings. On September 15, 2010, their divorce was finalized in Mississippi.
Freeman and Colley-Lee adopted Freeman's stepgranddaughter from his first marriage, E'dena Hines, and raised her together. On August 16, 2015, 33-year-old Hines was murdered in New York City.
In 2008, the TV series African American Lives 2 revealed that some of Freeman's great-great-grandparents were slaves who migrated from North Carolina to Mississippi. Freeman discovered that his Caucasian maternal great-great-grandfather had lived with, and was buried beside, Freeman's African-American great-great-grandmother (in the segregated South, the two could not marry legally at the time). A DNA test on the series stated that he is descended in part from the Songhai and Tuareg peoples of Niger.
Religious views
In a 2012 interview with TheWrap, Freeman was asked if he considered himself atheist or agnostic. He replied, "It's a hard question because as I said at the start, I think we invented God. So if I believe in God, and I do, it's because I think I'm God." Freeman later said that his experience working on The Story of God with Morgan Freeman did not change his views on religion.
Properties
Freeman lives in Charleston, Mississippi, and New York City. He owns and operates Ground Zero, a blues club in Clarksdale, Mississippi. He formerly co-owned Madidi, a fine dining restaurant, also in Clarksdale.
Flying
At age 65, Freeman earned a private pilot's license. He owns or has owned at least three private aircraft, including a Cessna Citation 501 jet and a Cessna 414 twin-engine prop. In 2007 he purchased an Emivest SJ30 long-range private jet and took delivery in December 2009. He is certified to fly all of them.
Car accident
Freeman was injured in an automobile accident near Ruleville, Mississippi, on the night of August 3, 2008. The vehicle in which he was traveling, a 1997 Nissan Maxima, left the highway and flipped over several times. He and a female passenger, Demaris Meyer, were rescued from the vehicle using the "Jaws of Life". Freeman was taken via medical helicopter to The Regional Medical Center (The Med) hospital in Memphis. Police ruled out alcohol as a factor in the crash. Freeman was coherent following the crash, as he joked with a photographer about taking his picture at the scene. His left shoulder, arm, and elbow were broken in the crash, and he had surgery on August 5, 2008. Doctors operated for four hours to repair nerve damage in his shoulder and arm. On CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight he stated that he is left handed but cannot move the fingers of his left hand. He wears a compression glove to protect against blood pooling due to non-movement. His publicist announced he was expected to make a full recovery. Meyer, his passenger, sued him for negligence, claiming that he was drinking the night of the accident. Subsequently, the suit was settled.
Beekeeping
After becoming concerned with the decline of honeybees, Freeman decided to turn his 124-acre ranch into a sanctuary for them in July 2014, starting with 26 bee hives.
Activism
Charitable work
In 2004, Freeman and others formed the Grenada Relief Fund to aid people affected by Hurricane Ivan on the island of Grenada. The fund has since become PLANIT NOW, an organization that seeks to provide preparedness resources for people living in areas afflicted by hurricanes and severe storms. Freeman has worked on narrating small clips for global organizations, such as One Earth, whose goals include raising awareness of environmental issues. He has narrated the clip "Why Are We Here," which can be viewed on One Earth's website. Freeman has donated money to the Mississippi Horse Park in Starkville, Mississippi. The park is part of Mississippi State University and Freeman has several horses that he takes there.
Politics
Freeman endorsed Barack Obama's candidacy for the 2008 presidential election, although he stated that he would not join Obama's campaign. He narrates for The Hall of Presidents with Barack Obama, who has been added to the exhibit. The Hall of Presidents re-opened on July 4, 2009, at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida. Freeman joined President Bill Clinton, USA Bid Committee Chairman Sunil Gulati, and USMNT midfielder Landon Donovan on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, in Zurich for the U.S. bid committee's final presentation to FIFA for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. On day 4 of the 2016 Democratic National Convention, Morgan Freeman provided the voiceover for the video introduction of Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
Comments on racism
Freeman has publicly criticized the celebration of Black History Month and does not participate in any related events, saying, "I don't want a black history month. Black history is American history." He says the only way to end racism is to stop talking about it, and he notes that there is no "white history month." Freeman once said in an interview with 60 Minutes's Mike Wallace, "I am going to stop calling you a white man and I'm going to ask you to stop calling me a black man." Freeman supported the defeated proposal to change the Mississippi state flag, which contains the Confederate battle flag. Freeman sparked controversy in 2011 when, on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight, he accused the Tea Party movement of racism.
In reaction to the death of Freddie Gray and the 2015 Baltimore protests, Freeman said he was "absolutely" supportive of the protesters. "That unrest [in Baltimore] has nothing to do with terrorism at all, except the terrorism we suffer from the police. [...] Because of the technology—everybody has a smartphone—now we can see what the police are doing. We can show the world, Look, this is what happened in that situation. So why are so many people dying in police custody? And why are they all black? And why are all the police killing them white? What is that? The police have always said, 'I feared for my safety.' Well, now we know. OK. You feared for your safety while a guy was running away from you, right?"
Filmography
Awards and honors
On October 28, 2006, Freeman was honored at the first Mississippi's Best Awards in Jackson, Mississippi, with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his works on and off the big screen. He received an honorary degree of Doctor of Arts and Letters from Delta State University during the school's commencement exercises on May 13, 2006. In 2013, Boston University presented him with an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. On November 12, 2014, he was bestowed the honour of Freedom of the City by the City of London.

Heterogeneity 2/2
As a first-generation college student, I have long sought to find objective, academic explanations for my brainless interests; in sum, K-POP, but Make it Deep. However, the fast-track fleeting nature of K-pop makes it a difficult subject of academic inquiry. As soon as a study is published, the concept has changed: fans have moved on, and artists have either survived the cut or been left behind. Earlier in the semester, we examined Lisa Lowe’s conceptualization of heterogeneity as “the existence of differences and differential relationships within a bounded category”. The simultaneously fluid and bounded nature of Asian-American identities exemplifies the complexity of heterogeneity, and the impossibility of even trying to confine it to a clarifying definition. Although K-pop as an unfolding phenomenon, and as culture in constant motion / making / and remaking, cannot be pinned down to ever yield a timely, satisfying academic study, it is still worth inquiring how K-pop interacts with the processes of racialization and cultural production. Why do I, as a Vietnamese-American woman, try so hard and yet find it so easy to identify with the Korean, Japanese, Thai, and Chinese women of K-pop? What unspoken affinity explains my ability to see myself more clearly from their visibility?
The Material Contradictions of K-Pop
K-Pop is expensive. Budgets are not spared in the recruitment, training, creation and distribution of the industry’s releases. Yet, despite the size and grandeur of K-pop performances, most of its artists are poor. Because Youtube (an American online video-streaming platform owned by Google) is the main distributive platform for popular music, ease of consumer access is traded off with little to no profits from the royalties earned by international artists. The profits that are made go mostly to management, and there is little degree of personal, financial, and artistic freedom. Though highly influential in terms of culture, the five billion dollar industry of K-pop does not hold significant economic power internally. Exclusively economic models for K-pop as a global export do not account for the dimensions of the music and the identification that fans hold for the artists. Viewing K-pop consumption through the lens of heterogeneity may help to alleviate the pressures of looking for an overly rational explanation to a cultural phenomenon that has gone global.
Despite the heavy appropriation of African American culture, there are no black people in the role of idols in K-pop, and Black K-pop fans are often met with large-scale backlash when speaking out against idols’ repeated behavior of cultural misappropriation
Mass Coordination of Fandoms - Potential and Abuse Racism within Fandoms
BLACKPINK often releases their songs originally in Korean and then re-releases them in Japanese. Japan’s imperial history in Korea is implicit in the fact that the support of Japanese fans play such a large role in the economic success of K-pop that most groups must learn the language in order to successfully tour and perform for Japanese-speaking audiences.
With K-pop’s global exportation and rising popularity, members are expected to speak English, and their popularity in America is over-represented as the measure of success (BLACKPINK solidified their reputation in the global music industry by performing at Coachella).
Line Distribution in BLACKPINK’s first pre-dom. English song
Idols are prohibited from speaking on controversial topics in order to appeal to the maximum number of fans, but fans are increasingly holding them to a degree of political responsive-ness and responsibility
Youth-led, pro-democracy protests in Thailand
"The student-led protest movement is demonstrably horizontal, not easy to extinguish from the top. So the protesters will likely continue with their pent-up frustration at Thailand's outdated political system that has led the country towards economic stagnation"
The K-pop industry actively recruits its trainees from outside of South Korea in order to secure a fanbase from that country, economically capitalizing on consumer’s ethnic identifications with group members.
As a Southeast Asian woman in the K-pop industry, BLACKPINK’s Lalisa Manoban’s ethnic identity as a Thai woman is made hypervisible through its heavy marketing to Thai fans, yet is simultaneously denigrated within Korea. In this way, idols groups’ ethnic diversity is flattened in order to make them appear more cohesive and palatable to specific audiences.
The sexual and romantic availability is crucial to the marketing of fans’ identification with, and desire to access these members, but idols are strictly forbidden from actually living out these relationships.
Because most K-pop fans are female-identifying, male K-pop groups fare better economically, and are held to a much more lenient standard with regards to their behavior.
Tumblr media
In a journal article titled “Mass Media Technologies and Popular Music Genres: K-pop and Youtube”(2013), Lee and Oh offer a sociological thesis on the Korean popular music industry. Following a brief introduction on the history of K-pop in America and the Youtube revolution, they explore the business structure of a rising digital economy, with Youtube serving as the platform for a global marketplace and K-pop being one of the exported commodities. With a distinct focus on the entrepreneurial dimensions of the music industry, the authors build off the gatekeeper theory by Hirsch (1971) and the demand-side perspective of technological evolution by Funk (2007), in order to bring into this analysis the role of distributional technologies (p.40). Looking at the combined influence of these three factors, they proceed to argue that Youtube’s success, as well as the relationship between “media technologies and the birth of new music genres is epiphenomenal rather than causal”(p.39). Lee and Oh contrast K-pop to its Asian counterparts in China and Japan, arguing that the K-pop industry is characterized by a unique value chain based off of a “broadcasting model” (p.45). The article provides a close study on the bilateral influence of music digitization and creativity in the particular case of K-pop as a global music genre. The argument that Youtube, as a new global marketplace, is “characterized by a new ecology of supply and distribution networks” (p.38) is effectively advanced by their venture capitalist-broadcasting model, which illustrates the cycle of production beginning at MNEs, moving to artists/writers/producers, placed onto Youtube and/or Facebook, and finally, reaching fans (MNE customers) (p.45). The concept Globalization-Localization-Globalization concept, applied to the manufacturing of “artistic and music creativity” as an international business model utilized by SM Entertainment and parallel to Toyotism; emphasizes the processes of Localization as the necessary trajectory for K-pop if it is to effectively outsource creativity in the long run.

When M. Bernie Edmonds was growing up in South Central Los Angeles, he began seeing ads for Art Instruction, Inc. on the backs of matchbooks. Art contests that called for people to “Draw Winky” captured his imagination.
“I caught the art fever from then on,” he said. “I also got in trouble at school for doodling and not completing my class assignments.”
Tumblr media

Edmonds graduated from Cal State Dominguez Hills with a Bachelor of Science in public administration. But he also maintained his interest in art, taking courses while in college and from private coaches. He began studying pottery and sculpting, and went to Italy in 2006 to study line drawing.
“I love all art mediums,” said Edmonds, who added that he was raised to believe that he could do anything that he put his mind and hands to do.
Edmonds moved to Riverside 35 years ago. He developed the artistic persona BerniE. and began seeking to grow his client list beyond close friends and family.
With his business acumen and artistic talent, he began being represented by galleries throughout the country. His work has been seen on numerous TV shows and has been collected by several celebrities. The most surprising thing is the enormous range of mediums that this work encompasses, including residential and commercial design. It has even recently begun to include music and film.
Some of Edmonds’ favorite moments have been the personal interactions he has had with collectors.
“I recall the look on Coretta Scott King’s face and the tears in her eyes when she was presented with the crystal sculpture that I was commissioned to create for her,” he said.
Another one of those moments came during the unveiling of the Booker T. Washington sculpture Edmonds was commissioned to create by the Black Voice News and Foundation.

“Booker T. Washington’s granddaughter leaned over and whispered in my ear that I captured his facial pose with great accuracy, as he often held his head a certain way,” he said. “We chuckled.”
Edmonds has recently turned his attention to raising awareness of and providing services for African Americans suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. He explained that according to the Alzheimer’s Association, the prevalence of the disease among older African Americans is substantially higher than in non-Hispanic Caucasians. Edmonds has created a song and video, “I Care,” as well as a series of paintings he has collected into a book. A portion of all sales is being donated to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Edmonds has also recently developed “Brands Opening” in response to businesses needing to rebuild and reshape from the pandemic.
“There is a disproportionate amount of minority artists and independent business owners whose equitable share of the business market will not be enough to allow them to get back to business,” he said. “The business community at large needs to recognize that there is value in diversity across the spectrum of all professions, including fine art, music and film.”
Edmonds recommends that young artists spend time searching for information online on how to get their artwork viewed by curators and gallery owners in consideration for consignments, shows and exhibitions.

“In addition, reach out and establish contact with your favorite artists,” he said. “Join art groups. They generally sponsor shows and exhibit as frequently as monthly, which gives artists a greater chance of being featured. Most importantly, establish a strong trust and working relationship with your clients, gallery owners, curators and the art community in general. These are the ways that I went about gaining reputation and notoriety amongst clients and collectors.”
