Hector lands on the final platform with a grunt and looks towards Balthazar and the woman caged in front of him.
The woman is pale as a ghost, even to her hair and her eyes. Her face is heavily scarred and her clothes ragged and torn. She glances at Hector with disinterest, but her gaze, and her ire, is primarily reserved for Balthazar, who is standing before her with a look of casual cruelty.
"Balthazar," the woman snaps. "Come to add more bars to my cage. Or perhaps to lead this would-be Justiciar's blade directly to my heart?"
She gestures, indicating Hector, and he flinches away from the assertion. Shadowheart is the one here to become a Justiciar; to be considered the petitioner himself is anathema. (And indeed, out of the corner of his eye, he can see Shadowheart surging forward to claim her rightful reward - but he puts an arm out across her chest, blocking her. They cannot speak yet; there is more to be heard.)
The woman's eyes flash back to Balthazar, and she lunges in his direction against the edge of the sigil holding her - and pale green spectral hands grasp at her, pulling her back, holding her still.
"I invite you," she snarls. "Heap more sins upon your head. My retribution will be all the sweeter for them."
Balthazar smiles coolly, unfazed by her impotent rage. "All this time," he murmurs, "and you still fail to appreciate the gifts I bestowed on you, Aylin. Sad, to see a thing of beauty not recognize its own worth." He circles the edge of the sigil, eyeing her like a particularly fascinating caged beast. "But General Thorm... *he* appreciates you. And he wants you close at hand, so I am here to whisk you back to him."
The Nightsong - Aylin? - struggles against her bonds, and the snarl on her face turns sardonic. "Ketheric. I welcome the sight of him, after these hundred years - he whose immortality I supply with my very soul."
Hector goes very still. His eyes flick sideways to Shadowheart and he sees that she has registered the meaning of these words as well. There is so much more at work here than the Justiciar trial, something that ties to the heart of everything they are struggling against.
This woman cannot be allowed to return to Thorm - at any cost.
Balthazar's smile loses some of its cool humor. "*General* Thorm," he repeats icily. "I'm sure you'll be on your best behavior for him, but just in case, I've taken some precautions."
He turns casually to Hector, seemingly unaware of the monk's distaste for the entire situation. "Keep back. It will take quite some concentration to secure Aylin for her little journey."
Hector draws a slow breath, trying to calm the racing of his mind enough to think, to decide on a plan. "Wait," he says, stalling for time. "The Nightsong is a person?"
Balthazar laughs.
"Person? Please. You insult her. You insult *me*. Aylin is so much more than that. She is an aasimar, bound to a soulcage of my creation and lending her immortal strength to General Thorm. Her power, his will, and my genius - an unsurpassable feat."
Hector feels a chill go through him. An aasimar - one touched by celestial blood, beyond human - trapped in this place for the century that Thorm has been immortal, mocked by this blasphemous cruelty for decades...
"Ramblings most unsane," Aylin sneers, uncowed even after such torment. "Poor Balthazar, for maggots ate his brain long ago."
"Hold your tongue, Aylin," Balthazar snaps coldly. "Or I'll take it away from you again." He turns to look at Hector, and the veneer of calm authority begins to slip in favor of irritation. "And you - no more questions. No more interference."
Hector flicks his eyes to his companions; all of them have shoulders set, eyes narrowed. He knows they all see the truth of the situation as clearly as he does. This can't be allowed to happen. And there is no way Balthazar will be dissuaded from his plans with anything other than violence.
Subtly he shifts his weight onto the balls of his feet, into the steady central stance ready to leap in any direction. Hidden by his crossed arms, his hands clench into fists.
"If she's the reason Ketheric Thorm is invulnerable," he says, voice steady and hard as steel, "you're not taking her. Leave, or you're a dead man."
Balthazar turns slowly towards him, and any pretense of pleasantry vanishes from him. His eyes are black coal flared with embers.
"Dead man," he murmurs. "You haven't been paying attention, have you? Perhaps I'll revive your carcass and add you to my retinue. Then you'll have all the time in the world to think on your mistakes!"
With astonishing speed for his bulk, he darts backwards, flaring with necromantic magic, and all around them, the strewn forms of the dead begin to rise.
Oh boy.

Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII
My Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII (#ad) is Level 90 and Crystal Level 90. His 15cp, 35cp, Ex, LD, and BT are fully MLB. His Ex is at Ex+ 3/3 or Purple. His Burst weapon has been upgraded to BT+ 3/3 or Green.
Seph’s currently equipped with a Level 5 of 5 Greatsword Ultima Weapon. His High Armor’s been upgraded to Blue. His Summon Boards, Character Enhancement Boards, and Force Enhancements have been completed. He has his Bloom Stone.
Sephi has 3 Attack 108 with Max Brave 330 Artifacts and 3 Attack 108 with One-Winged Angel Boost★★ (Raises INT BRV, MAX BRV, ATK, DEF by 5% if HP is MAX at start of last wave) Artifacts.
Sephiroth is equipped with the following real A Spheres:
Edgar Roni Figaro’s (from Final Fantasy VI) Debuff Power
Increases BRV damage dealt by 10% while an enemy is debuffed
Cloud Strife’s (from Final Fantasy VII) Critical Power
Raises BRV damage dealt with critical hits by 10%
Vayne Carudas Solidor’s (from Final Fantasy XII) Broken Power
When attacking target afflicted with Break:
• Increases BRV damage dealt by 10%
I talk more about this in other posts, but I’ve been using Sephiroth for Lufenia (level 200) and Lufenia+ (level 250) quests basically ever since I got his LD and BT even back when he wasn’t that good at all. I’d like to keep using him even for Shinryu quests.

Oath Within my Вrеаst (Intersecting Wills) Shinryu Quest
Also known as Oath Within my Вrеаst Pt. 14 SHINRYU. This fight has 1 wave with 2 enemies, the Soulcages. They have 85 million HP each. They have moves that buff themselves and debuff their opponents. In this quest, only lightning and non-elemental attacks are unresisted.
Once the force gauge of the enemies reaches 100%, they will trigger Shockwave+. This deals AoE BRV + HP damage that’s guaranteed to hit. The enemies will then give themselves multiple buffs.
The enemies will also enter 6 turns of force time with the following effects: the Soulcages will now be able to deal +50% HP damage.
Once the enemies drop down to the 79%, 39%, and 19% HP percentage thresholds, they will trigger “the fire started". This will cause them to gain +50% BRV and HP damage resistance. They’ll also gain a 4 million BRV damage shield and a 4 million HP damage shield.
To dispel the above effects, break either the BRV or HP damage shield. The fire aura will trigger even inside a summon or during a char’s BT phase.
At the 69%, 29%, and 9% HP percentage thresholds, the enemies will trigger Leaf Swirl if they’re not on fire. This will cause them to deal AoE BRV + HP damage and give themselves a +50% attack up buff.
If the enemies are on fire, then they’ll trigger Fire Blades instead. This will cause them to deal AoE HP damage that’s 90% of a char’s current HP. The duration of all the buffs of all chars will also go down by 6 turns. The enemies will then get a +50% evasion up buff.
This will not trigger while inside a summon or during a char’s BT mode but it will happen immediately afterwards.
For this fight, my team was Jack Garland from Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origin, Sephiroth, and Sherlotta from from Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time with The Brothers as my summon.
My Calls were Raijin’s from Final Fantasy VIII, Seymour Guado’s from Final Fantasy X, and Lunafreya Nox Fleuret’s from Final Fantasy XV.
Raijin’s LD Call afflicts all enemies with a debuff that nullifies all HP damage and debuffs for 2 turns. Lunafreya’s LD Call will enable its user to get 3 turns in a row. Her regular Call heals the party.
Seymour’s Calls inflicts enemies with multiple debuffs. His LD Call can also delay all enemies by 2 turns as well as dispel the buffs of all the enemies.
Have Jack Garland’s 15cp, 35cp, Ex, LD, BT, and FR fully MLB. His Ex has been Purpled. His Burst has been Greened. He has his High Armor and it’s been Blued.
Jack has his Bloom Stone. He has triple real Spheres and triple perfect Artifacts. All of his Summon Boards, Character Enhancement Boards, and Force Enhancements have been completed.
Garland is boosted for this fight. For now, I’ve decided to equip him with my Level 5 of 5 Greatsword Ultima Weapon since he’s gonna be my main DPS for this quest.
Have Sherlotta’s 15cp, 35cp, Ex, LD, BT, and FR fully MLB. Her Ex weapon has been Purpled. Her Burst weapon has been Greened. Her High Armor has been Blued.
Sherlotta has her Bloom Stone. She has triple perfect Artifacts and triple real Spheres.
All of her Summon Boards, Character Enhancement Boards, and Force Enhancements have been completed.
Sherlotta is a really good support, buffer, and healer. She has a few instant turn rate moves which buff the party and make the force gauge charge faster. Currently have her equipped with my Level 5 of 5 Special or Unique-type Ultima Weapon.
When the fight started, had Sherlotta spam one of her instant turn rate moves until her Ex ability got charged. Then I used her Ex ability. This also has instant turn rate. By now my force gauge was at around 50% or thereabouts.
Had Sherlotta use Raijin’s LD Call then I switched her out for the friend support Selphie Tilmitt from Final Fantasy VIII that I borrowed.
Selphie is also a support, healer, and buffer. She doesn’t have her own Burst weapon and/or Force weapon yet.
Borrowed a Selphie friend because of her LD. Selphie’s LD afflicts enemies with a debuff that allows all chars to initiate launches each turn. This debuff will also battery the party for these launches.
Selphie also has instant turn rate moves that buff and battery the party and quickly charge the force gauge. Proceeded to spam those moves 4 times. Then, on Selphie’s 5th and last turn, I used her LD to debuff the enemies and launch them.
By now my force gauge was nearing 100%. When Sherlotta returned, had her finish fully charging my force gauge. Once my force gauge was fully charged, had Sherlotta use her Additional Ability then her BT+ finisher.
Had Sephiroth use Seymour’s regular Call. Decided to save Seymour’s LD Call for later in case I need to get rid of the buffs of the enemies.
Normally, I’ll also have Sephiroth activate his Burst+ finisher too. One of its effects is setting the brave of all enemies to 1 for 4 turns. So my chars can just keep on breaking and delaying them.
But I couldn’t do that this time because Seph’s BT+ effect conflicts with Jack’s negative brave gimmick. Garland deals more damage if the enemies are broken. He’s also capable of having them go into negative brave.
For now, I’ve been able to keep the enemies from moving thanks to using Selphie’s LD earlier (this also delays all enemies by 2 turns). The enemies also naturally got out of break so was able to just break them again to delay them.
On Jack’s turn, had him use his Additional Ability and his BT+ finisher already. On his next turn, had him use Lunafreya’s LD Call. Then I activated his Force ability.
Normally, I’d wait until I had exactly 7 turns of force time left before going into a char’s BT+ mode but this time decided to just activate Jack’s Burst+ phase right away.
Have 10 turns of force time left. The HP damage bonus was at 125%. The enemies were down to 82% and 88% HP.
The conditions for increasing the HP damage bonus of Garland’s FR are as follows:
+20% when party member selects melee attack on party member’s own turn
+20% when enemy afflicted with Break present on party member’s own turn
+30% when enemy with less than 0 BRV present on party member’s own turn
Jack was able to deal a lot of damage during his force time and Burst+ phase. He would have been able to deal more if I’d gone into his Burst+ mode a bit later though.
The shields of the enemies were also annoying but at least Jack was able to break through them.
By the time Jack was about to cast Soul of Chaos, his finishing Burst+ move, have 4 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 540%. The enemies were down to 56% and 35% HP.
Right after Jack’s Burst+ phase ended, the enemies used Leaf Swirl. This dealt 0 HP damage thanks to the debuff from Raijin’s LD Call.
When it was Jack’s turn again, summoned The Brothers already. Still have 2 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 618%. The enemies were now down to 34% and 16% HP.
IIRC, had Jack use Zantetsuken, his LD ability. This brought the enemies down to 25% and 10% HP.
It was now Sephiroth’s turn. Have 1 turn of force time left. The HP damage bonus was at 693%.
Had Sephi use Black Materia, his Ex ability. This finished off the Soulcage with 10% HP. The remaining Soulcage dropped down to 16% HP.
It was Sephiroth’s turn again. IIRC, just had him use either Octaslash or Scintilla. On Sherlotta’s turn, had her use Chuck Staff. Then on Jack’s turn, had him use his Ex ability.
The Soulcage currently has his shield up so by the time my summon was about to end, he was only down to 15% HP. It was Sephiroth’s turn again.
Thankfully, his attack was finally enough to pierce through the enemy’s shields so when my summon ended, the Soulcage only used Leaf Swirl and not Fire Blades.
On Sherlotta’s turn, had her spam the rest of her instant turn rate moves to get my force gauge back to 100%.
On Jack’s turn, had him activate his FR again. By now the remaining boss was down to 10% HP.
Before that, the Soulcage got to move a few times since I no longer have a way to delay him. Heck, he got to move again right after I used Jack’s FR since it was his turn already.
The Soulcage didn’t deal any HP damage but by now the debuff from Raijin’s LD was gone.
Jack’s FR ability took the enemy down to 3% HP. On Sephiroth’s turn, I was reminded that I had yet to use Seymour’s LD Call so I used it now to delay the last boss.
Since the fight was ending already, decided to just go ahead and use Sephiroth’s BT+ finisher. Have 9 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 175%.
Sephiroth’s Heaven’s Light, his BT+ finisher, left the Soulcage with 1% HP. Argh! How annoying!
Maybe if I’d used one of his skills instead, he would have been able to finish off the enemy already since he would have been able to launch him thanks to the debuff from Selphie’s LD.
It was now Sherlotta’s turn. Have 8 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 248%.
IIRC, had Sherlotta use Chuck Staff. This attack + the launch that followed was more than enough to finish off the remaining Soulcage, ending the battle on turn 13.
Got the score and all the other mission requirements. This team did really well. And this fight wasn’t that bad since I was able to avoid the Fire Blades. The shields were really annoying though.
Oath Within my Вrеаst (Intersecting Wills) Shinryu Quest with Beatrix
There’s a time-limited mission that wants us to clear the Oath Within my Вrеаst Shinryu quest with Beatrix from Final Fantasy IX in our party and without using a friend support.
Have Beatrix’s 15cp, 35cp, Ex, and LD fully MLB. Her Ex has been Purpled or upgraded to Ex+ 3/3. Also have her FR, and she’s currently equipped with it, but it hasn’t been limit broken at all.
Beatrix has her High Armor and it’s been Realized to 0/3. She has her Bloom Stone. She has triple perfect Artifacts and triple RF Spheres.
All of Beatrix’s Summon Boards have been completed. Unlocked parts of her Character Enhancement Boards, particularly the tiles that would give me her LD Call and LD extension passive.
Beatrix is a support who can deal pretty good damage. She provides decent enough party-wide buffs and auras. She can heal. She can dispel the buffs of enemies. She can also provide some protection against the attacks of enemies.
For this fight, my team was Beatrix, Sherlotta, and Jack Garland with The Brothers as my summon. My Calls were Lunafreya’s, Seymour’s, and Raijin’s.
Brought a friend support Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII but have no intention of bringing her into battle. Just borrowed her because she has max Force Enhancements.
Not sure if having a friend with max Force Enhancements will help make my force gauge charge faster even if they aren’t brought into battle but thought I’d give it a try anyway just in case. LOL.
Anyway, made use of Sherlotta’s skills to quickly get my force gauge to 100%. IIRC, the bosses did get to move a few times but they didn’t really do anything all that dangerous.
Having the protection and defenses from Beatrix plus the debuff from Raijin’s LD Call helped to keep my chars safe.
Once my force gauge was fully charged to 100%, had Sherlotta use her BT+ finisher and her Additional Ability. Also had Beatrix and Jack use their Additional Abilities.
Had Jack use Lunafreya’s LD Call then I activated his FR and his BT+ finisher before going straight into his Burst+ phase.
By the time Jack was about to cast Soul of Chaos, the enemies were down to 45% and 27% HP. Their force gauge was at 48.0%. Have 3 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 665%.
Right after Jack’s Burst+ phase ended, the enemies used Leaf Swirl multiple times.
Every time they did that, Beatrix countered and dealt damage. She also dispelled their buffs.
Have 2 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was currently at 740% so Beatrix’s counters dealt a lot of damage.
She was able to deal so much damage that the HP of the enemies were now down to 28% and 11% HP. They went on fire again which caused them to trigger Fire Blades.
As a result, my chars lost most of their buffs. Eff! That was really annoying. At least the fight was ending already but now I have to re-apply everyone’s buffs all over again.
Anyway, on Sherlotta’s turn, had her summon The Brothers already. Have 1 turn of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 762%.
Unfortunately, thanks to the BRV and HP damage shield of the enemies, the on-entry attack of The Brothers did no damage. So the enemies were still at 28% and 11% HP.
At least I was soon able to break through those shields. When it was Sherlotta’s turn again, had her spam the rest of her moves to get my force gauge back to 100% again.
Then, on Jack’s turn, had him activate his Force ability again. Soon, one of the enemies croaked it already.
A few turns later, the remaining enemy was down to 4% HP. Have 8 turns of force time left and the HP damage bonus was at 200%. The force gauge of the enemies was at 77.4%.
It was Jack’s turn again. His attack was more than enough to finish off the last boss already, ending the battle on turn 16.
Got the score and all the other mission requirements. Beatrix did pretty well here, all things considered. The Fire Blades of the enemies was annoying but at least I was able to get through this. Jack and Sherlotta did very well as always.
Conclusion
