Sunday in the Park with George “Move On” Le Chatelet Production 2013 Dot: Sophie-Louise Dann George: Julian Ovenden Watch the song here. I admit, I’m not a huge fan of this musical, but this number brought me to TEARS. First off, HER performance is spectacular. The emotions and her roaring voice insisting him to move past this artistic block and trust in what he knows. I also admit I don’t know much about these actors (but that will change ASAP) and hearing George sung with an operatic-like tone... it works here. He’s matching her passion and power. His reactions to her pleas (these GIFs) are heart-wrenching.

Wicked today was just absolutely everything!!

Lucie Jones as elphaba was so amazing you can tell she loves the role! Can’t wait to see her in April to see how she’s improved!

Helen Woolf as Glinda was beautiful! Saw her in the UK tour a few years back and was really impressed

Loved Ryan Reid as Fiyero lovely voice!

Sophie Louise Dann as Mme Morrible a highlight for me

And Gary Wilmot made the wizards scenes a lot less boring which I’m grateful for 😭

We got to see U/S Grace Chapman on for nessarose and she was wonderful really powerful voice and acting!

Shoutout to the flying monkeys they’re unbelievable to watch!!

For the 2022-23 cast’s second show I was blown away

And for £29.50 sitting in the 4th row the seats were fantastic, only slight issue was the massive speaker was just metres from us so the music could be quite overpowering

Thoughts on the new Wicked London cast?

Ok... so...

I am super surprised how white this cast was.... I really thought we were going to get a POC Elphaba and POC Morrible this cast change, but anyway...

I'm super excited that Amy Webb and Charli Baptie are continuing as standby's because I think they are both phenomenal!! I'm also super excited for Nicola Espallardo who will be covering Elphaba! Our 3rd ASIAN ELPHABA (Outside of Asia)!!!! WOOOHOOO!!!! Cannot wait for her to go on!!! I also love how all Boq's are now POC.

Simeon Truby as Dr. Dillamond [Continuing]: Really have no opinion.

Carina Gillespie as Nessarose (Glinda u/s) [Continuing]: I am SUPER surprised she stayed on. I really thought she would leave to spend more time with her family. (Especially considering she's been calling out quite a bit lately)

Nicholas McLean as Boq [Continuing]: No opinion on him either.

Sophie-Louise Dann as Madame Morrible [New]: To reiterate, I was really expecting a POC Morrible, so this surprised me... I'm sure Sophie-Louise will be a wonderful Morrible, but she wouldn't be my first choice.

Gary Wilmot as The Wizard [New]: I heard fantastic things about him in Anything Goes so I'm sure he'll be just as brilliant here.

Helen Woolf as Glinda [Returning]: I am surprised she returned this quickly from maternity leave. But I think she's a lovely Glinda, so I'm not complaining.

L*cie Jones as Elphaba [New]: While I am super excited that this is for the first fresh blood Elphaba in over a decade (Last fresh blood was Louise Dearman, although if you don't count her for playing Glinda then the last one was Rachel Tucker). Just like with Morrible, I was really expecting a POC Elphaba. I have to be quite honest though... Casting Lucie is a really safe choice. I mean she is such an uninspired choice... They could have gone with Emma Kingston, Charlotte Wakefield, Christina Modestou, Renée Lamb or someone exciting. I have nothing against Lucie, but she's a very safe choice. She has a pretty voice, but she sounds like every other 20/30 something woman belter these days. I think she'll deliver a good Elphaba, but it will be a safe Elphaba. She won't push the status quo as to what Elphaba could be, if that makes sense.

Best of 2019 Countdown #3 :: Ian McKellen’s cameo as ~Hugo Victor~ on the barricade in the Les Mis tour. [ 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | 10 | 11 | 12 | 13 | 14 | 15 ]

Sir Ian McKellen enjoyed a performance of the Les Miserables tour in August, during the show’s run in Newcastle, and later that evening, he more than enjoyed drinks and a singsong for the ages in the pub with several cast members. He then jumped on the opportunity to cameo with the show during the following day’s matinee, appearing as ‘Hugo Victor’ (his chosen character name) during Act II, and blending in wonderfully before, during, and after, showing the cast and crew a tremendous amount of love backstage. This two-day event crossed the streams of my two personal major fandoms, so was thrilling on several levels, and of course presented some moments and photographs to absolutely cherish.

Nehal, Allison, Justin, and Christia were probably my favorites, but the entire cast is so talented, it’s difficult to choose any as standouts. A very nice capture overall. There are a couple quick dropouts in act one, but no major blackouts. There is one head that can be seen occasionally, but it only blocks a small portion of the stage and only affects the action for about 20-30 seconds of the entire show. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent as usual. Includes curtain call and playbill scans. It’s refreshing to see different faces in the lead roles, and both Nathaniel and Earl carry the show well. Nathaniel’s vocals are powerful and he has a great rapport with Caissie and Samantha. A lovely capture overall with no obstruction. Look Down is mostly blacked out and there are a couple quick dropouts during The Bishop scene and Lovely Ladies, but the show is otherwise fully intact. There is also some washout in high contrast wide shots. It’s filmed in 16:9, with a mix of wides, mediums, and close-ups. The sound is excellent. Includes curtain call and playbill scans. He first understudied in 1999, when JOJ was the principal, which may explain the similarity. About half of the Chain Gang song missing and filming starts in earnest during Valjean on parole. Other parts missed because of ushers include several random one-second cover-ups, part of the wedding and about half of Finale. Heads in the way sometimes block the action on the lower right of the stage, but they are shot around well. Vantage point provides some interesting views such as of Fantine during Lovely Ladies. Wonderful performances from the entire cast but especially then soon-to-be-Elphaba Kerry Ellis.
