KP Quick'n'Dirty, Prompts, Week #5, ***Partnership with SongkranFest***
Tumblr media
KP Quick'n'Dirty is teaming up with @songkranfest! This week, let's celebrate Thai culture, specifically Songkran, the Thai New Year. Your quest, should you choose to accept it, is to create KinnPorsche quick'n'dirties related to Songkran.
Make something quick'n'dirty (keep it short, keep it rough).
@ message this blog to get reblogged.
Say "remix" next to the @ mention or in tags if you welcome others to create something inspired by your piece!
*** DOUBLE UP THE REBLOGS! *** Also tag your qnd with #SongkranFest2024 or @ mention songkranfest to get reblogged.
Prompts - Your Pick
You can use one prompt, multiple prompts, or any other inspiration. These do not have to be used together. (You can also find more SongkranFest prompts.)
Text 1: Cleaning/cleansing in any sense of the word.
Text 2: Home (family); for instance, a story around returning home, finding a new home, or the meaning of home.
The reason behind these text prompts is that home, family, and water are key elements of the Songkran festival. The festival includes rituals around cleansing, particularly with younger family members showing respect to their elders by pouring scented water over their hands. LEARN MORE

Use this video for inspiration AND to learn about Songkran!

Hiii! Can I be really dumb for a second and ask for a summary of current events in Thai BL Land? 👀 I look away for one second and there’s a partnership with BounPrem and/or WabiSabi and GMMTV? And GMMTV 2024 Part 2 was announced? And maybe more stuff I missed? I am so confused, please help me. I honestly don’t know where to find info on these things. Again, sorry for just dumping this ask on you instead of figuring it out myself. Thank you so much!
(On a completely unrelated side note: I was considering watching Ploy’s Yearbook too, but GMMTV straight shows have bored me before. So, is it worth watching in your opinion, are you enjoying it?)
Honestly? You got most of it! The GMMTV/WabiSabi merger happened on Monday—and Boun’s already been spotted on the set of Peaceful Property, which is wild. And then today, GMMTV finally announced that their Part 2 event will be held next Tuesday. Jimmy and Sea have both confirmed that they won’t have a show in Part 2, but I haven’t been following the news closely enough to know if anyone else in the BL world was excluded. First and Khaotung are going to be there and that's all that matters.
Today in particular was just a one thing after another. I woke up to news about GMMTV Part 2, then James Supamongkon essentially came out on a live stream, and then the new Idol Factory GL released a super spicy teaser. I was an hour late to work 🙈
Plus, this weekend was Songkran—Thai New Year—so everyone’s been extra active on social media. We got months of drought and then everything happened all at once.
As for Ploy’s Yearbook, so far it’s about on par with GMMTV’s usual het stuff. I’m enjoying it, but that’s mostly because the girls are pretty and I’m really, really gay. My one major qualm is that it’s following the same format The Jungle did where instead of telling an entire cohesive story, it seems like each individual couple is going to get a 2-3 episode arc. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first couple, but the others seem more interesting.
Would I recommend it? Not really. It’s fine, but nothing special. I’m having fun ogling the attractive people and that’s basically the extent of it. But I’ll let you know if that changes.

13. April 2019

Aber was solls.

Throughout history, the dates that count as the "new year" have changed a couple of times due to regime changes and political decisions within Thailand. Today, the official new year is on January 1st, like the rest of the world. The 1st of January is called ปีใหม่ (“pi mai”), ปี is “year,” and ใหม่ is “new.”
Alongside this is Songkran-สงกรานต์. Songkran is considered the Thai New Year that takes place in mid-April. The date of Songkran used to be calculated each year by a royal astrologer, but now, for practical reasons, it is officially on April 13–15 every year. Taking place during a long weekend, Songkran is the time of year when people emphasize the importance of honoring their ancestors and taking a break to go home and spend time with their families. Offices and shops close to accommodate the holiday and travel plans, which can be the whole weekend or extend to the entire week.
Like many Thai traditions, Songkran has a lot of Brahmanism influence and many aspects that involve Buddhism. Buddhism is the most prominent religion in Thailand, with more than 90% of Thai people being Buddhist. Therefore, many significant acts during Songkran symbolize cleansing, unity, and good fortune for the upcoming new year. Bathing Buddha images and making merits with family members is traditionally done, and other fun activities, such as water fights, feasting, games, and folk dance, are also part of the celebration (UNESCO, TheNationThailand).
Currently, to boost tourism in Thailand, the Thai government has extended Songkran celebrations in various ways. Places such as Silom Road and Khao San Road are spotlighted as destinations to attract international travel, all while encompassing the usual Thai traditions of water fights, street food, and music (SindhornMidtown). Many places and institutions have begun their countdown to Songkran!

Here, at SongkranFest, we will be counting down the days to Songkran by sharing information about Songkran! This information will help our participants become more knowledgeable about the Thai New Year, as well as help them center Thai culture in their fanworks.

A gentleman from Sacramento, California, 43 years old, wanted to come to Thailand for Songkran, and then some further exploration. But, with all the changes announced by the government, the restrictions imposed recently for Songkran celebrations, and the hotels still advertising for 14 day quarantines, he’s found it a complete minefield. His main complaint – people ‘on the ground’ don’t appear to know about the April 1 changes to quarantine requirements. Here’s a screen shot from the Royal Thai Embassy in Austria. Other embassies have also updated their information but the changes, mostly, haven’t filtered down to quarantine-registered hotels in Thailand. “I just find it odd that we are less than five days from the first and no official documentation has been pushed out to hotel owners.” Here is his full message to The Thaiger… This link is to official policy changes from the Royal Thai consulate. Can you please investigate why the changes are not being implemented into the local quarantine hotels who are still selling 15 day packages when it clearly states as of April 1 that this is the new policy. I am not sure what official word they are waiting for or why it has not been documented to the hotel owners but I am very curious as to why it is listed as official government policy from the Royal Thai consulate? There seems to be a complete failure of information being filtered down to the standard SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) booklet given to the ASQ hotel managers. I am currently checked into ALQ in Pattaya and my hotel manager refuses to implement any changes to the ALQ until “official word” has been given. I feel the updated policy changes listed from the Royal Thai embassy should be more than sufficient to implement change. Who is the official source of the info? Is it the Thai health ministry? Or is it provincial managers or officials? Who is the man? Bottomline, it’s more complicated to get into Thailand than it was pre-Covid. But many people are travelling here and going through the paperwork, and you can too. But it may pay to be patient during this period of transition and re-opening. https://www.instagram.com/p/CM5i-SiB1o1/?igshid=kr747zwn8ts0
