hey btw before you start being angry at the 10 year old sephora kids and the ipad kids, remember that we should feel bad for them. because the world has failed them. it is not these kids faults that the world is so focused on materialistic things and that their parents don't know how to talk to them. that is the fault of social media and bad parenting. i said what i said.

dazai makes atsushi take random photos and videos of him throughout the day (most of them are super dramatic and/or aesthetic) only to caption them with the most unhinged stuff when he posts them on social media

i send my friend suggestions of tourist places to see in his new country (his contract was extended, lucky him!) or messages about friend of friends i have living there that he could maybe meet for fellow americans to talk to, and his response is always that he doesnt have time. and not in that exaggerated way that people do to seem busy. but in that bone tired way i recognize from him here in LA, that i recognize in myself.
#jrnlsht#i watch the lives of my friends who have Made It on social media and its like looking through glass into another world i cant relate to#theyre so happy and confident and successful and its beautiful#you know whats a funny thing about LA#so many people on the on*line da*ting apps put *successful* on their list of requirements in the people they want to date#like theres a bar of entry and if you haven't reached a certain goal post like... blue check marks on your social media or a level of wealt#then they arent even going to want to get to know you#and its so antithetical to how i was raised i cant even comprehend#and yet i see it happening to my own relationships#in pittsburgh i had friends from literally ALL walks of life from people who made even less money than me to comfortable to fairly wealthy#here my friends are almost entirely of one professional class#and i have been observing how my hyper wealthy friends self select in who they interact with to maintain this wealthy bubble around them#i dont think it's entirely intentional but its also not not intentional if you know what i mean#anyway its one of the reasons i fucking loved the talk on saturday oh my god those two were a breath of fresh air i needed so much#these smart genius dudes built their own life and instead of constantly looking up for more and more personal gain#they paused and looked at the people still desperately trying to rise#and were like if i have gotten this far why cant i help you do it too and then they DID IT they actually started helping#i think that is the true meaning of success

can we please discourage kids from being the heros in internet drama..??? idk pitting kids against each other to try and fix situations involving incredibly serious topics when they themselves cant even fully grasp such concepts just doesnt sound very healthy. i dont think that type of peer pressure, stress, or responsibility is good for a kids development
#txt#very basic concept#the furry and art community in particular seems to have an issue#like hmmm maybe the foxiboxi situation was actually not good at all and its absolutely horrible that someone had their reputation ruined fo#because of incredibly over exaggerated alligations made by a child is not good#and with the croaket or wutever their name was “rendering process” shit was actually really bad and its incredibly lucky that the artist#being targetted (being a minor) is still making art on a different social platform and even so#being absolutely dogpiled by an entire app just because you draw the eyes to high up and they start faking screenshots of you saying the#n word and accusing you of drawing stuff theres no actual evidence of you drawing is bound to be a traumatizing experience#especially since said artist WAS A MINORRRRRRR#we need to raise the minimun age for social media#rants#i told my mom about the croaket drama one time and she was dare i say flabbergasted and horrified for me#tiktok is a genuinely harmful social platform that has somehow managed to be both the most toxic social platform while also being#simultaneously being one of the most moderative and oppressive social apps available.#saying the word ass ❌❌❌❌❌ harrasing a minor off the app for drawing the forehead too small ✅✅✅✅😊#proof phones ruined the internet#genuinely tiktok needs to be an 18+ app simply for how its used to harrass and bully people#like genuinely its such a trauma filled app#people seem to be way more focussed on the “china spy on u” and “its addictive” side of tiktok like YEA its a addivitive but just take a#mere glance at the community on there. THAT SHOULD BE THE MAIN WORRY#KIDS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO POST ON AN APP THAT GIVES THEM THE POWER TO BUILD SUCH A BIG AUDIENCE SO EASILY#THIS APP SURE AS HELL AINT SAFE FOR KIDS UNDER 13 AND STILL ISNT SAFE FOR KIDS ABOVE 13 DUDE#14 IS NOT THAT MATURE#14 IS NOT MATURE ENOUGH TO BUILD AN ONLINE AUDIENCE AND LEAD WITCHHUNTS#14 IS NOT MATURE ENOUGH TO POST ON TIKTOK

i don't want to put my uninformed foot in my mouth or get involved with the Discourse but i've been seeing the two extremes of reactions to the korean low birth rates issue (on tumblr and twitter both) and i'm just kind of like. look. i feel like "low birth rates (in many countries but especially japan and korea as part of this conversation) are more broadly the result of capitalism/a culture of overwhelming overwork that makes social relationships and having families incredibly inaccessible to young people" and "low birth rates are very much a part of the current conversation about misogyny and social expectations for women in korea especially in the context of reproduction as 'unpaid labor' for women" are statements that can both be true
#laughs awkwardly#gender#especially considering the ways patriarchal expectations and capitalism very much intersect in terms of quality of life for women#ex. women being expected to have kids / raise kids / do all the housework and cooking in a relationship#while ALSO existing in a society where women (even married women) have to work demanding jobs to deal with the high cost of living#AND women are systemically discriminated against in terms of pay / job availability / work environment and harassment#all of these things add up. these conversations are not opposing points of view. you know?#and also like. not super comfortable with how TERFs are discussed in terms of non-white cultures#TERFism / radfems as a MOVEMENT (and a cult) is very much rooted in white supremacy / ideals of womanhood#again. multiple things can be true at the same time. yes i do see (from my perspective involved in taiwanese social media)#some east asian feminists engage in transphobia in ways that approach radfem rhetoric ('women are victims of men' 'men are predators'#type generalized sentiments which you can imagine gains a lot of traction among women traumatized by patriarchy)#but movement-wise i don't think it's fair (or just in good faith) to generalize radical feminists from non-white countries#to straight up TERFs. which again. rooted in white supremacy. keep feeling like i have to remind people it doesn't make sense#for asians to be white supremacists and that not all oppression on earth stems directly from white people. you weirdos#'what are you talking about' in east asia the type of feminist statements called 'radical' are stuff like.#women shouldn't have to wear make up every time they go outside. women shouldn't be expected to do all housework.#should men pay for women on dates. debates that i think in the states we kind of take for granted as stuff settled years ago#even if some feminists might be transphobic it's not necessarily Transphobia As Core Tenets Of The Movement. does anyone get the difference#basically what i'm saying is. wow these tags got long. maybe let's not apply uniform standards of 'correct language and values'#to non-white people and attack them when as all movements they are fluid and influenced by the people living in it#TERF-style transphobia is not the predestined course for them. maybe it's more productive to have open discussions about transphobia#to work towards inclusivity and solidarity in these movements than to prescribe White Internet Morality to them#and declare that they're evil when they are still very much having conversations that need to be had. thanks i think that's all#essentially. i find that 'how dare a non-american movement not have morally pristine vocabulary priorities and membership#as determined by white leftists' to be in itself kinda a racist attitude

tighnari fans stop posting pictures of neglected/irresponsibly kept exotic pets because they remind you of your blorbo challenge
#fennec foxes are cute yes but they are also terrible pets#its bad for you and for the fox#ultimately theyre wild animals and there are things you just cant train into or out of them#and they have a very specific set of care needs including their diet and vet care that are pretty much impossible to meet#unless you can literally run a private zoo i guess#not to mention the whole having to be taken away from their parents way too early to be hand raised by humans thing#please be more skeptical about the welfare and safety of a completely undomesticated wild canine kept in someone's living room#like im no expert on this shit but its very clearly heavily questionable at least#just because you can find websites saying that fennec foxes 'aren't for everyone' doesn't mean people are informed enough about the needs o#this animal and responsible about keeping them. it is far more likely that any pet fox you see on social media is not in fact#being kept in adequate conditions#if people want the animal they will convince themselves that 'not for everyone' doesn't apply to them and overestimate themselves#you should always be skeptical about wild animals in captivity. even those kept by people who claim they've done their research#obviously don't fall for the idea that animals have to be broken out of zoos for their 'freedom' or whatever#just yknow. consider the animal beyond how cute it is. they are living creatures. not just fun internet images#also tighnari would fucking tear you a new one for this his whole job revolves around protecting wildlife from ignorant ppl and vice versa

most appealing part of the inhumans is that theyre all middle aged with back pain
#the comfort of a group of characters ostracized for their differences but still finding happiness and love and companionship and home#gorgon having chronic pain maximus having neglected mental illness bb and triton struggling to socialize after being raised outside society#medusa taking on so much responsibility that even her loved ones start to slowly neglect her needs assuming she can handle it all#i was looking at some uncanny inhumans art and now im in a mood over 50yo blackagar .#this probably applies more to me than People In General but like. the royal family as a whole r extremely comforting to me#bc they r characters that like. i can see parts of myself in that i havent ever found in other media before#like i have a bad back! and bad joints and mobility issues sometimes! and it hurts all the time!#and i know a chronically ill character isnt like. IMPOSSIBLE to find but it still means a lot to me that they bring gorgon's pain up#and how maximus' completely ignored and silenced mental health struggles really fucked him up for like his entire life#and how bb and triton being raised almost completely removed from society and only interacting with family members until they were adults#affected their socialization skills a LOT#like these are all things i can find and like. actually see myself there. its nice to not feel completely detached from everyone else#bc growing up these r things i did not see. ever. there r so many parts of me that i thought everyone experienced and. they dont!#i have no idea where im going with this its just. these inhumans r people. and i see them. and it means something to me.#inhumans

I guess one question that strikes me as very important, that I haven't seen anyone raise:
What would it look like to make an attempt at scaling down AO3?
Who would need to be persuaded, for example, to lock down AO3 to logged in users only, freeze commenting and possibly slow down account invites? Presumably that significantly damages AO3's status as a community hub without compromising its mission, and makes steps towards having a less strained budget and volunteer team. Make it very clear that they are not a social media site, they're an archive that hosts fanfiction. I genuinely do not know who would have to make this decision though. Could you do it with four board members?
In any case, some of the hypotheticals people are laying out, where the harm to volunteers and users both are so large and intractable and the organization's interest in mitigating them is so limited, would warrant attempting this or something like it right?
