for halloween I introduce a mapleshade and spottedleaf au I had in my head for a while :)
basically spottedleaf dies as normal, and after she does maple finds her and sees it as another way to take revenge on thunderclan, and convinces her that Fireheart/paw whatever he was at the time let her die purposely and convinces her to take revenge on him, especially after he chooses Sandstorm as a mate. Basically spotted tries to act like his spirit guide still and still act good and not evil, but secretly convinces sandstorm that firestar loves her and not sand bc she constantly visiting him and stuff if that makes sense...and basically sand ends up breaking up with him over it
but before they broke up sand was already pregnant and had squilf and leaf eventually, and bc of what happened, his daughters never became too close to him, especially squilf, leaf kinda had to get over it since she his med cat, but squilf always held resentment. eventually spotted convinces leaf to run away with crow and that whole thing happens same as it does..
however since she knew the three had powers her and maple started secretly training them. as time went on jay realized they were being manipulated and told lion and holly, but holly was so caught up in being the best med cat she could be, she didn't believe jay and continued to train
eventually the fire thing happened and spotted actually told holly leaf was her mom and made up lies about how she hated her and hated that she was her apprentice and all that, and eventually convinced holly to kill leaf in revenge, and she tried but due to the sister psychic link thing squilf came and tried to save her, but she was too late, and in the process also ended up killing Holly in an attempt to save her sister, but in the end they both ended up dead
squilf was accused of killing them both and due to pressure from the clan firestar was forced to exile his daughter, she pleaded, attempting to fix the relationship they never got to have, and he desperately wanted to, but he couldn't and had to kick her out
meanwhile, in starclan leaf realized what spotted had been doing and tried to warn all the other starclan cats, but none believed her since spotted was such a well respected starclan warrior. the only one who seemed to listen was crookedstar, and eventually they realized together mapleshade was in on this as well
they formed a plan together to bring maples kits to her in an attempt to change her mind, and during the great battle they bring the kits out to maple while the kits tried to convince her to stop all this. maple was starting to listen to them, finally starting to find some kind of closure in her anger, when spotted saw and stepped in
she tried to convince maple not to listen to them but she wouldn't, so spotted attempted to kill the kits, which made maple angry
the two started fighting, maple almost winning and who easily could have killed her but hesitated, through all of this they had formed a close relationship despite everything, and she couldn't bring herself to hurt her, but that was her mistake, for spotted didn't hesitate and ended up killing her
she hadn't realized what she had done until it was too late, she had killed the one cat closest to her, and while she was in shock, sandstorm has been watching and realized what had been happening all along, killed spottedleaf, ending their reign once and for all

i actually wrote a small pre-relationship tallpoppy/stonefur thing from me n @exaggerated-yawning ‘s au ....i rly love tallstone and enjoy it omg so just have this drabble that i was able to pump out after i got home frm work tonight omg
He must be having a nightmare again, Tallpoppy thinks as she watches him shiver in his nest. In his waking hours, Stonefur is usually more withdrawn and quiet; it’s a stark contrast to a time before, of a tom that she remembers from Gatherings as being so full of confidence in himself and his family. Not of the arrogant kind; just a cat who knew his path in life and want he wanted for himself. Seemingly not glory or fame, not a high position (although he got that eventually) just the joy of being in his home with his family at his side.
So many cats, Tallpoppy thinks, go through their lives not realizing that sometimes that’s all they truly want; to belong, to have a shared community. She thinks of Brokenstar, who she remembers from her kitdays, who constantly shied away from ShadowClan and withdrew into himself until the resentment for Lizardstripe, and the coddling Raggedstar gave him boiled over until he couldn’t contain it. Of Tigerstar - a tom she didn’t grow up around, but knew just as well from Gatherings, proud and arrogant and so blinded by needless ambition, that he lost his Clan and family from his own doing and is now spending his days trying to recover from that blow by punishing others for what he lacks.
But Stonefur, before TigerClan, wasn’t like that. She didn’t know him well before helping rescue him from Blackfoot, but she felt as though she understood him from a distance. What you see is what you get, one of those cats.
But then again, no one is really like that; she remembers the collective shock of ShadowClan when Tigerstar told them how Stonefur and Mistyfoot were half-ThunderClan, sired by Oakheart but carried by Bluestar. The way he recalled it, amber eyes stirring with hatred and disgust - Tallpoppy thinks that part of why it bothers him so much is that the cat who mothered Stonefur is the cat who drove him from ThunderClan, and he wanted to go for the next best thing after Bluestar now that she’s gone from this world: her children.
And not just Bluestar’s, either; Tallpoppy remembers seeing two apprentice-aged cats huddled together tightly, eyes fearful and wide as they take in the ShadowClan warriors before them. RiverClan apprentices from the look of them, but there was something about their head shape, the molly’s too-thick coat-
“RiverClan doesn’t just house two half-Clan cats, but four,” Tigerstar had hissed to them, narrowing his eyes at the apprentices. “Crookedstar’s grandkits have a ThunderClan father; how embarrassing for his legacy.”
It was that moment that Tallpoppy had felt as though she had enough; her children, her kits, were taken from her. Killed by Brokenstar at three moons old. There was no funeral, no ceremony. No one gathered for a vigil to send her kittens to StarClan and wish them well on their journey. Dawncloud and Brightflower pressed against her sides, murmuring that they would be there for her through this - but that was all. Her kittens are dead, and ShadowClan had to move on. No one had tears to shed again for a dead litter; it was too common for them now, that it almost felt as though no one but her mourned them truly.
She tears her thoughts from her kittens, though; she has to, in order to get through the next day, and the day after that. And the next. It’s something that the queens of ShadowClan have learned over the past seasons.
But that idea - of killing two apprentices, just for their parentage, was something she’d rather turn a rogue than to go and perform. This wasn’t the forest she was born into anymore.
Stonefur twitches again, and Tallpoppy blinks at him softly; in the moonlight, his blue-gray fur shines brightly. The patches of missing fur from where Blackfoot attacked him are almost grown back, but some of the wounds have scarred too horribly for any fur to grow back. She looks at the one on his side, and her stomach tightens.
He’s a strong tom. He lost his home; his leader was perfectly comfortable with him being killed to suit Tigerstar’s needs. But as he stayed with the rebels in ShadowClan, with Littlecloud nursing him back to health, Tallpoppy did not think he would stay with them. Perhaps go back with his sister and her son to RiverClan, or maybe join ThunderClan.
But, just as shockingly, he began...talking to her. Well, she talked to him first, mostly; he was still too shell-shocked, too shook up to really carry on a conversation for too long. Their first conversations consisted of her reminding him that he wasn’t their prisoner, that he could go anywhere he liked - he was just here to heal, but if he didn’t want to stay, she understood that.
But after awhile, they began to talk more; it was awkward and guarded at first, due to their differences, but the walls began to drop the more they understood each other.
He’s proud and strong-willed because his father taught him to be; Oakheart was a tom of confidence and generosity. His father had to protect his brother from their Clan at a young age, and Stonefur and Mistyfoot were taught to protect each other. He has a bit of a temper that he says is from his mother; when Tallpoppy’s whiskers twitched, he explained that Graypool had quite the temper, and no one could really calm her down once she started to fire up.
Maybe it’s because his personality compliments the side of hers that is instinctively protective, that tries to look at the best in life and tries to move forward with what she has, but they did grow closer over the moon before the battle with BloodClan.
And after that, he stayed.
He didn’t explain why, exactly; he merely shrugged and said that Mistyfoot is Leopardstar’s new deputy, and she can keep the other molly and check from there. That his sister will always be his sister regardless of the Clan. But Tallpoppy mostly thinks it’s because you can’t go back to that; to a Clan who wanted you dead, and a leader who turned a blind eye to it. Mistyfoot is as badly damaged from it as he is, but Tallpoppy also knows that she wasn’t the one under Blackfoot’s claws - that was Stonefur. Every scratch, every bite, every wound opened - it was on Stonefur. She thinks that there’s a difference in that.
Tallpoppy nestles closer to him; he started to sleep next to her when the nightmares came back. Strangely, after all is said and done - with Tigerstar dead, BloodClan defeated, and ShadowClan trying to begin a new chapter again, wondering who will lead them next and if they’re ready to move forward, and how, she still has nightmares.
About her kits, mostly. But sometimes it’s about herself, too; where she’s the one that Brokenstar is taking out for battle training, while her kits watch.
Stonefur didn’t say anything that first night, merely plopped next to her and went to sleep. But his presence helped; a familiar scent of someone who is trying to get back on his own paws was nice to have.
But now it’s him who’s having the nightmare; he twitches in his sleep, eyelids fluttering. Tallpoppy frowns; she cares about him in a way that’s new for her, something that’s hard for her to put her claw on. Her kit’s father was just a fellow warrior; it wasn’t a courtship of that kind. She’s never really had relationships outside of her friends and Clanmates; but this thing, with Stonefur, it’s different. She finds herself aching for his companionship in a way that’s just different from Dawncloud or Littlecloud’s friendships; she wants them to sleep in the same nest for every night they have left together. She wants him at her side when ShadowClan decides to go to the next Gathering, and to look down (because, adorably, he is shorter than her) and see him there. To do the whole tail-twine, gaze up at the sunset thing that she’s seen so many couples do ever since she was a ‘paw.
But mostly, she’s just glad to be here with him, to know she has someone at her side through this confusing time.
She leans down and licks his ears; he doesn’t instantly relax at first, but as she moves closer to him, nosing his cheek, he slowly does, leaning into her touch.

WC design/headcannon/ect masterlist- Part A
just a list of ALL my designs for headcanons, maybe some design updates, any other comments or AU ideas i have. on main characters and characters with no plot!
These are all the cats who name starts with ‘A’, posting these in alphabetical order to not overload just one list lol
all under the cut >:3
Acorn Fur
Tumblr media
my Acorn Fur design changed slightly as she used to be more red saturated and i wanted her to not so much like my Red Claw Design
My biggest Headcanon for her is she absolutely didn’t listen to Moth Flight and ended up giving birth to two kit’s with Red claw as the father. they names are Rain Stone and Oak Stump
Acornpaw
Tumblr media
Acornpaw, ancient skyclan warrior
i like the idea of Acornpaw is a decedent of Acorn Fur and one of the last generations of her family that would remember her name
A warrior name i think would be nice for him is Acorndrop
Acorntail
Tumblr media
Acorntail, ancient windclan deputy.
i can imagine he was named the way he was being smallest in his litter, losing his tail to a rabbit trap when he’s older
acorntail stick with being deputy for awhile but i can see either he even after training an apprentice can’t keep up with the duties and once again insist that Morningcloud is made deputy. oR acorntail becoming leader as Acornstar and morningcloud or her apprentice Quickpaw being made his deputy
Adderkit
Tumblr media
Adderkit, starclan kit who used to live in windclan and died by adder bite, named for it and was avanged by tallstar
I imagine Adderkit was originally named Burrowkit born to Ashfoot and Deadfoot in their first litter with Eaglekit. Adderkit died on Windclans Journey to find a home after shadowclan chased them out.
Adderkit was very young when they died i picture their memory of their living life being EXTREMELY blurry, they know their windclan and they died by an adder. its why they renamed themself, and they barely remember who their mom and dad were.
Adderpaw
Tumblr media
Adderpaw, ancient windclan apprentice who was around to the apprentice age limit code
Adderpaw was name for what a good few other ‘adder’ and snake named kits are named for, their tail wiggling around with its patterns look like that of a skinny snake.
Adderpaw Warrior name ideas, Addergrace or Addersnag
Algernon
Tumblr media
not much to say beyond i think my design for him looks very funny lol
but my design for him is that he is leucistic
Applefrost
Tumblr media
Applefrost, kid of appledusk and reedshine
Named after her piece of shit dad, and raised on one sided stories of him she loved her dad and wanted to be like him as she got older.
She was the first victim of Mapleshade’s hauntings, picking her because she was named after the man who hurt her family and she looks a bit like him.
(applefrost isn’t normally greying on the bottom naturally, this is a side effect on spending so many years training one on one with mapleshade in the dark forest. My crookedstar design also has this) Applefrost knows the name mapleshade and was skeptic to talk to her at first, but opened up and tries to just take what advice she can get from the spirit. Even coming to sympathies with her through learning the truth of her father.
Then one day Mapleshade stopped visiting her, thought Applefrost would never know what happened, there is a reason.
Applefrost was full grown, and so kind even in the face of the warrior who killed her father. And she looked so much like him, yes he ruined her life but maybe this was the price she payed for what she did, to forever feel pain over the lose of someone who didn’t love her.
It was part that, and part..something about the way she looked at mapleshade, and something she said sent her memories flying back to her little petalkit who looked so much like her.
Mapleshade would stop visiting applefrost and move on to another generation of their family.
Applefrost would never tell her siblngs of mapleshade, but would come to disown her own father in starclan. even being friends with petalkit.
Applepaw
Tumblr media
daughter of breezepelt and heathertail
mostly in here because i needed to up date her design
she hasn’t received her warrior name yet but should be close in the books
but a name like Applebite or Appleleaf
Ashfoot
Tumblr media
Ashfoot,  windclan warrior, deputy and mother of crowfeather
i absOLUTLY love ashfoot
i picture her to be a very like ‘badass warrior mom’ she give tough love and you can’t help but totally admire her. She loves her son crowfeather, though if she is honest he tends to disappoint her with how he kinda doesn’t know how to behave
she gets followed around by herds of kits who want to be like her, and her past apprentice’s (which she has many of) call her sheriff (or mom, which is embarrassing but common and crow HATES it)
Her and Deadfoot are VERY lovey dovey, she loves her sweet husband dearly and was distraught when he died. They were best friends growing up as apprentices together and were both name ‘foot’ in sign they always walked paw and paw, being well synced in battle and in life, they were just perfect for each other. so its easy to imagine when Deadfoot died it was like she lost half of herself
Ashfoot has a very long tail, just oh so slightly shorter than talltail, her family is known for their long tail (a trait passed down through being descended of windstar) Long tails are often called a symbol of power or royality in windclan. its very diserable and only tallstar’s tail was longer than hers. Her son crowfeather, and grandson jayfeather both take after thing ten fold with tails you could trip 10 cats with. breezepelt has a longer tail than average but no were near as long as theirs and it dOES kinda make him mad.
Ashfoot also loVES nightcloud, at first when crowfeather told his mom that nightcloud was having his kit’s she was super skeptical, not of nightcloud but of their relationship. she just saw right through it for what it really was. so she mostly didn’t talk to nightcloud for the two month’s she was pregnant, as to avoid getting involved.
but when Nightcloud gives birth and all of her kits but breezepelt die and she is DISTRAUGHT. Crowfeather isn’t helping and doesn’t seem to find any words that comfort her or not make her more upset, so like a big ol man child he turns to his mom and begs her to calm down nightcloud.
and its this moment that Ashfoot find’s herself completely bonded to Nightclouds side, looking at the dark she-cat crying over her lost kittens with her single son mewling for her. Ashfoot herself has had two litters both that only had one survivor, Eaglekit’s litter (eaglekit only made it to paw before he died) and now all she has is crowfeather. Ashfoot stay’s by the queens side and comforts her new daughter in law.
Ashfoot and Nightcloud are close, even when her and crowfeather ultimately don’t work out.
Ashfur
Tumblr media
dont have much for him i guess
i hate him lol
i like him more than most other boy cats that i hate lol
he’s just a lil piss baby
iv updated his design a good bit, i thought his old design was really bleh but i havent been able to touch it up till now
i defiantly think him and brambleclaw shoulda been gay
i dont like him with squirrel, BUT if they’de been closer in age i think he and squirrel before ashfur became a fuckin crazy person they would have been better togeather than her and bramble that i don’t understand why she went back to bramble even if she didn’t get with ashfur
alsO i think the only ‘au’ i can like get into is like
Dustpelt mysteriously disappeared, presumed dead by thunderclan and never to be known what happened. Except between him and Ferncloud. id loVe a narrative of Ashfur kills dustpelt after watching the full grown warrior and mentor reefer to Ferncloud as beautiful, finding the behavior absolutely repulsive. Maybe ashfur ends up killing a few other cats who are like this and Ferncloud knows he killed dustpelt but maybe not the others. and it all ends up coming spilling out in the fire, this moment of the three and squirrel learn what he did but now he knows what they did, so their at a stale mate. but ashfur is becoming loser and more erratic in his behavior and hollyleaf kills him before he does something dangerous.

So, I had an AU idea ya'll, and it's about Crookedstar. Basically I got the idea from @canon-notcanon-warriorcats and a couple of their asks, but I'm turning it into a real AU writing blog here. So...let's get on. If you have any suggestions / ideas about it just send in an ask, I'll be answering all asks (Other than irrelevant things to my account).
Crookedpaw's pelt glittered in the morning sunlight, and he sighed, a small whistle coming from the side of his jaw that was out of place. He glanced around the camp, surprised to see his father, Shellheart, nodding to Hailstar, RiverClan's leader. He pricked his ears subtly, trying to hear their conversation, but Shellheart had finished speaking to the leader and began pacing towards Crookedpaw.
Crookedpaw flicked his ears back against his head, looking cold and distant once more. "Crookedpaw. Son," Shellheart stopped in front of his son, and Crookedpaw looked up, mock irritation glistening in his eyes. "I've just spoken to Hailstar, and I was told you-" "-I know." Crookedpaw looked away, head on his paws. He was tender putting his jaw in contact with his paws, and he had to hold back a small whine as they touched.
"You...know?" Shellheart stammered, confused. The great Tom cocked his head as he gazed at his son. "I know you spoke to Hailstar. I saw you talking to him, and I already know what it's about. It's about warriorship, isn't it? I can't be a warrior because of my jaw..." Crookedpaw's voice cracked, and he could feel hot tears forming at the edges of his eyes, but he was forced to blink them back.
Shellheart was silent. "I-I'm right, aren't I, father?" Crookedpaw asked, looking up at his father. He forced himself not to run out of camp as he saw the heartbreak forming in his father's eyes. "No, Crookedpaw..." Shellheart shook his head, and when Crookedpaw caught his gaze again, Shellheart's eyes were full of warm love for his son. "You will become a warrior, Crookedpaw. Hailstar has spoken to your mothe-excuse me. Hailstar has spoken to Rainflower, and she demands you a warrior name that is..."
Shellheart shook his head again. "She does not want for you to have a pleasant name. She demanded you have a name related to your...past." Shellfur glanced down at his moping son, and it dawned on Crookedpaw that he would achieve his dreams of becoming a full warrior, even if it was much later than his brother, Oakheart, had achieved it. "Stand up, Crookedpaw. Hailstar is ready when you are for your ceremony."
Shellheart purred, and nudged his son to his paws. Crookedpaw pressed into his father, happy to become a warrior at last. He shook out his fur, and began to groom his chest fur. He no longer had a caring mother to groom him before his ceremonies. He heard a sniff of contempt nearby, and looked up from his rapid strokes on his chest fur. He saw Rainflower, and he narrowed his eyes. Rainflower's tail flicked back and forth, irritated.
Her gaze seemed to linger on his broken jaw for a few moments, before Crookedpaw lifted his chin pridefully, uncaring of what his 'mother' now thought of him. He was becoming a warrior, despite his injury, and she could do nothing about it. Rainflower scoffed and shifted gazes to look up at Hailstar has he leapt on top of the ceremonial rock of RiverClan.
"Let all cats old enough to swim gather beneath to hear my words!" Hailstar bellowed, his voice echoing steadily until it was no longer heard. Crookedpaw padded confidently to the front of the crowd, ready to push through to recieve his warrior name. But he was stopped in the front row by Brambleberry, the RiverClan medicine cat. And the only she-cat in the Clan who really seemed to care for him like a true mother.
"Crookedpaw! I know you're becoming a warrior now-" Brambleberry purred happily, and touched noses with him. Crookedpaw looked up at her, smiling. "-but you can't go up their looking like a scrappy WindClan cat! Come here." Brambleberry licked his fur smooth on his head, and Crookedpaw groaned. "I thought I was done with dumb grooming sessions after Rainflower abandoned me."
Crookedpaw muttered, faking his ungratefulness. Brambleberry stopped grooming him with a hiss. "Don't speak that devil's name! She has no right to abandon her own son like she did, and I wouldn't be surprised if she went to the Place of No Stars." Brambleberry growled, and then began to fiercely groom Crookedpaw's fur once more.
"Y-yeah, you're right." Crookedpaw stammered, talen aback at how protective Brambleberry was of his abandonment. A few gasps came from around them, and Brambleberry glared at the two warriors who were gaping at her disrespectful words. "Shut your jaws, you two. Everyone knows it's the truth, but obviously only a medicine cat, such as I, am brave enough to speak the truth." Brambleberry spat, and the two warriors turned their gaze away uncomfortably.
"Crookedpaw. Please step forward," Hailstar's voice cut off all other murmurs, and Crookedpaw let out a small wriggle of happiness before bounding to the front of the crowd, his freshly-groomed fur springing up. He heard Brambleberry groan as she noticed his messy fur popping up all over again, and he could barely hold in a giggle. He turned to face the Clan, sitting beneath the shade of the Rock.
"Cats of RiverClan, we are here today for the ceremony of a warrior. Crookedpaw has trained hard in your noble ways, StarClan, and his namesake will be chosen specifically by a parent of his own kind. Rainflower," Hailstar glanced down at the crowd, and Crookedpaw pinpointed his mother, and his face fell. His mother was no longer one to choose nice things for him. "You have chosen the name Crookedjaw for your son, gesturing to his injury."
Crookedpaw looked up at Hailstar pleadingly, begging his leader not to give him such a horrid name. But he noticed the glistening flicker in the old Tom's eyes as he readied his words he would speak next, and Crookedpaw was somehow comforted by that gleam. "I spoke to Shellheart about the naming of Crookedpaw, and my deputy agrees with Rainflower. Crookedpaw's warrior name will associate with something from his past experiences."
Crookedpaw noticed Rainflower looking overly-confident in her choice. She caught Crookedpaw's gaze, a malicious gleam in her eye. Crookedpaw looked away, inwardly upset at his mother. "But Shellheart also agreed with me. And your name will not be the one Crookedpaw recieves. You are a brutally modest bastar-um, cat, Rainflower, and your decisions for your son are not going to be accepted in RiverClan as long as I remain leader of it,"
Hailstar let out a soft purr, and Crookedpaw looked at the priceless expression on Rainflower's face. It was a mix of shock, horrible anger, and hatred for her son, her former mate, and her leader. Rainflower let out a snarl of rejection and stormed out of the clearing angrily. A quiet snicker rose from the Clan, and Hailstar continued. "Crookedpaw will further be known as Crookedstorm, in honor of his past name, Stormkit. We welcome you as a full warrior of RiverClan, Crookedstorm."
Crookedstorm purred happily, a large smile plastered on his face. The RiverClan cats let out a cheer, and his new name rose above the cheering as the Clan began to chant his name. "Crookedstorm! Crookedstorm! Crookedstorm!" They yowled in unison, and Hailstar leapt down from the Rock, and touched noses with Crookedstorm. "You are more deserving of this status than any other cat, Crookedstorm. Don't let anyone, especially Rainflower, drag you down."
Hailstar whispered to him, before a sea of Crookedstorm's Clanmates came rushing to greet him by his new name. They all began to disperse after many congratulations and cheering, and Crookedstorm began to seek out Hailstar. He found the leader eating a small thrush in the shade of a willow tree. "Hey, Hailstar! Just out of curiosity, what were you going to call Rainflower during my ceremony?" Crookedstorm asked, already knowing the answer. He wanted to hear it directly from Hailstar, though.
"A bastard," Hailstar didnt hesitate even a moment with his response. Crookedstorm let out a purr. "I suppose a leader can only speak the truth. And you and I both know it's true." Crookedstorm nodded, and settled beside his leader. "Do you mind sharing?" He asked Hailstar. "With the son of a bastard?" Hailstar asked, and Crookedstorm blinked, a bit hurt. "Of course I would." Hailstar grinned, and Crookedstorm gratefully took a bite, the warmth of the prey, and of his Clanmates, warming him from ear to tail.

Wind and Fire AU: Fire and Ice - Chapter Three
Read on Ao3
WindClan burst into the large clearing of Fourtrees. Firepaw suddenly realized how long it had been since he had stepped paw into the enormous clearing. Seeing the four great oaks towering in each of the corners, as well as the large boulder that the leaders sat on in the center of it, made him all the more excited and happy at being able to leave the camp again.
Glancing around the clearing, as well as making out the scents the best he could, he realized that ThunderClan and RiverClan were already there. Many groups of cats were spread throughout the wide space, talking and gossiping about StarClan knows what. He saw Bluestar and Crookedstar perched atop the Great Rock, while their respective deputies and medicine cats sat around the base of the rock.
Firepaw was so caught up in taking in the sights of Fourtrees that he jumped slightly as he heard Whitepaw's voice from so close to him. "Wow! It's so big!"
"Told you," Onepaw replied. He glanced around the clearing for a moment before adding, "Looks like ShadowClan isn't here yet, so we have some time for ourselves before the Gathering starts."
"I'm gonna go find some other cats to talk to! It's gonna be so much fun! Who wants to come with me?"
After some momentary silence, Webpaw shrugged, glancing around the crowd. “I’ll go. I don’t have much else to do. Usually, before the Gathering begins, we try to find some apprentices from the other Clans to meet.”
Whitepaw nodded, a glimmer of excitement in her eyes. “Well then, let's go! There are so many cats to meet.” She turned to Onepaw and Firepaw. “What about you two?”
Firepaw laughed slightly, glancing nervously out at the crowd. “There’s someone I want to meet with.”
Onepaw shrugged, adding, “Figured I’d tag along with Firepaw.”
Whitepaw nodded. “Well, you two have fun! I sure will!” She giggled enthusiastically, and without any more hesitance, dragged Webpaw out into the crowd of cats.
“So, I’m guessing you want to speak with Greypaw?” Onepaw inquired once the two other WindClan apprentices vanished.
Firepaw nodded slightly, looking around at the loud, bustling group of cats. “Yeah, but I figured I’ll just check around to see if there are any other cats I know first.” He paused. “Although, yeah, eventually I do wanna check up on him.” An image of Greypaw during the ShadowClan raid flashed in his mind, and he frowned slightly.
Onepaw chuckled slightly. “Well, I suppose we should check out the ThunderClan crowd. We don’t really know anyone in RiverClan.”
Firepaw hummed in agreement, padding off towards the scents of ThunderClan, with Onepaw not far behind.
The two spent a bit of time checking around. They could recognize quite a few faces, (to both of their surprise) but none did they know well enough to consider an acquaintance.
That is, till Onepaw nudged Firepaw, pointing his tail towards a pair of ThunderClan apprentices. “Hey, remember them?”
Firepaw squinted, before recognizing the two faces. “Sandpaw and Dustpaw.” He nodded, remembering seeing the two ThunderClan apprentices during the battle with ShadowClan. “We could go speak with them.”
Onepaw padded over to the two, and Firepaw followed his friend. Sandpaw noticed their approach first, and she looked at the two with a flash of recognition before begrudgingly welcoming them. When Dustpaw noticed them, he seemed put off by their friendliness, but welcomed them as well.
“How have you two been doing?” Onepaw asked, sitting down in front of the two, with Firepaw following suit not long after.
“Fine,” Sandpaw replied curtly.
“Well, er,” Onepaw muttered, a bit awkwardly, “how has ThunderClan been since the ordeal with Brokenstar?”
“We have been faring well.” This time it was Dustpaw who replied. “Not too many cats were injured, anyway.”
"What about your Clan?" Sandpaw added curiously. "You guys were affected the most by Brokenstar and his allies."
Firepaw thought for a moment. “We’ve been… well,” he began to continue. “Well, a few cats died when we were forced out- Tallstar will probably mention them during his speaking time in the Gathering- but we’ve been repairing the camp ever since we got back. Leaf-bare is always tough, of course.”
“How would you know that?” Sandpaw suddenly said, a hint of something aggressive in her tone.
“W-what?” Firepaw stammered, confused at the molly’s reaction.
“You’re a kittypet. Or, at least, were, yes?” she said, a hint of accusation in her tone.
“Why does that matter?” Onepaw shot back before Firepaw could say anything in his defense.
Firepaw could see some sort of tenseness incoming, so he gently touched Onepaw’s shoulder with his tail, before turning back to Sandpaw. “Yes, I was a kittypet. I joined WindClan when I was six or seven moons. Why?”
“Meaning you don’t know a thing about how difficult leaf-bare can be,” she said without missing a beat.
Firepaw made sure to reply before Onepaw could snap back. “You’re right. I had no struggle with leaf-bare during my time in Twolegplace. But I do know how difficult it can be- I was stuck in a tunnel with the rest of WindClan for the majority of this one.”
Dustpaw was the one to speak this time. “It’s difficult for all Clans to survive in these times.”
“And cats shouldn’t be bringing things up that don’t matter as if they’re important,” Onepaw muttered.
“Calm yourself, rabbit-chaser. We’re just making conversation.” Dustpaw sniffed.
“Hey, hey. Come on,” Firepaw attempted to calm down the situation. “It’s good to see you two again. We should just continue being peaceful, right?”
“Right.” Sandpaw nodded.
“Right…” Onepaw muttered with a slight hesitance.
Firepaw sighed in relief, and found himself unsure where to continue with the conversation. “So- er- did Greypaw come to the Gathering?” he blurted, before immediately regretting his words.
“Why?” Sandpaw inquired, suspicion lining her voice.
“I just… want to check up on how he’s doing…” Firepaw mumbled.
“Well, he did come. I last saw him over there.” She pointed her tail at another throng of cats.
Firepaw nodded. “Thank you. I’m gonna go look for him. Onepaw…?”
“I’ll stay here. I might join you later, though,” the brown tom said slowly.
“Right.” He nodded in farewell to the three, before heading towards where Sandpaw had directed she had last seen Greypaw.
It took him a few moments to spot his friend. When he did, he saw that Greypaw was sitting alone towards the edge of the large clearing, grooming himself.  After glancing around, Firepaw approached the grey tom.
It took a bit for Greypaw to notice Firepaw approaching, but when he did, he blinked in surprise, lifting his head up from grooming himself.
Firepaw smiled slightly at him. “Mind if I sit here?”
“Of course not.” Greypaw nodded at the spot before him.
Firepaw took his place in front of Greypaw. “How have you been?”
Firepaw could remember how distraught Greypaw had been last time they spoke to one another, crouching near Silverpaw, unmoving and refusing to speak. It was a stark difference to how he looked now. Still, though- it was unnerving that Greypaw was just sitting alone, rather than the usual of enthusiastically chatting with his Clanmates.
“I’ve been okay.” There was a certain hesitation before Greypaw responded. “You?”
Firepaw wasn’t quite sure how to respond- of course, he had said he was fine when speaking with Sandpaw and Dustpaw, as he didn’t know the two well, but now that he was with someone who he trusted and considered a friend, he found himself pausing.
Upon noticing Firepaw’s lack of response, Greypaw smiled somewhat. “Right. Yeah. Leaf-bare has been difficult.”
Firepaw nodded in agreement. “It used to be so easy in Twolegplace,” he realized, remembering Sandpaw’s spiteful words.
“Must be different from what you went through in the last moon, huh?” Greypaw chuckled, although there wasn’t much humor in the noise.
Firepaw nodded, but before he could think of something to say, he saw a cat approaching in the corner of his eye.
When he craned his head to see who it was, he realized it was Onepaw. Greypaw nodded in greeting, while Firepaw muttered a quick “hello”.
However, by the time Onepaw settled, and appeared as though he was about to speak, there was a loud noise from one of the entrances to the Gathering. ShadowClan cats swarmed into the clearing, with Nightpelt in the lead.
The Clan looked significantly different from the last time Firepaw had seen them. Most cats seemed less thin, their coats just a bit fuller, their eyes just a bit brighter.
Nightpelt wasted no time in heading for the leader’s rock. His head was held high, and he showed little hesitance when he took his place beside Crookedstar.
It seemed that the other leaders were impatient in waiting for the Gathering to start from there. Almost as soon as Nightpelt took his place, Bluestar stepped up and let out a yowl to catch the attention of the gossiping cats below.
The bellow immediately forced the crowds into silence. Tentative ears waited for Bluestar to tell her announcements.
“ThunderClan has been faring well during the last moon. Prey has been difficult to find, but that is expected during leaf-bare. Nonetheless, we thank StarClan for the gifts we have been given. There isn’t anything else worth mentioning.” The large molly dipped her head, stepping back to let another leader take her place.
After a few glances among the four cats, Tallstar stepped in front of the three.
The cats of the Gathering seemed to quiet even more, curious and eager to hear what was going on with WindClan; after all, they had vanished for so long so suddenly.
“I am sure many cats here are curious to hear where WindClan has been during these past few moons. It’s a complicated story, one that I will not go into detail about, but we were driven out of our territory by a patrol sent by Brokenstar.” He didn’t bother pausing, as he didn’t want to give the cats below a chance to interrupt him yet. “We were forced to travel far, far away, and had to stay in a damp, flooded tunnel for an unfortunate amount of time. Thankfully, the ThunderClan apprentice Greypaw came to find us. We were able to come back to our territory.
“Things have been well enough since then- we have been working to repair our camp, and leaf-bare is especially difficult. However, there were losses. Spiderdapple and Willowspot died in the battle in which we were being forced from our territory, Eaglekit died during a flood in our temporary tunnel camp, and two of Morningflower’s kits died during kitting. Each were a great loss to our Clan.”
Tallstar finally went quiet. The entire clearing was shocked into silence for a good few seconds, before there were numerous loud shouts and yells. Many cats were furious over the violations of the warrior code, others were horrified by the amount of deaths in so short a time.
It took multiple attempts from Tallstar to try to quiet the Clans, and when he finally succeeded, he finished off his report.
“All of WindClan, as well as I’m sure many others in other Clans, will grieve over the loss of these innocent cats. But alas, now that we are back, we hope to return to ordinary Clan life.”
Tallstar stepped back, and thankfully, this time there wasn’t an immediate reaction of bellows and angry shouts from the Clan cats. Crookedstar quickly took the place of where Tallstar had stood.
“It has been difficult for RiverClan in the past moon, but we have been alright. There hasn’t been too much freezing over the river, thankfully. However, I am unhappy to report that one of our apprentices, as well as my daughter, Silverpaw, was killed in a battle. Me and my Clan are still grieving over her loss.”
There was a brief silence among the Clan cats, confusion and sadness settling over the groups. However, this reflection was short-lived, as Nightpelt wasted no time in stepping up.
“I am sure you were unhappy to hear about Brokenstar’s decision to drive out WindClan. However, he has been driven out by the loyal cats of my Clan, along with his allies. I have taken his place as the leader of ShadowClan. I have yet to take the trip to the Moonstone, however, my name has changed from Nightpelt to Nightstar.”
Firepaw felt a brief flash of confusion at his words- after all, he had been told that StarClan was the one to give that name. However, his feelings of confusion were quickly forgotten as he heard a low growl.
He glanced over, surprised to see Greypaw glaring up at Nightpelt- or Nightstar.
Firepaw had no time to ask what was wrong before his friend stood up and began speaking.
Or, perhaps, spitting was a better word.
“How dare you?” His howl echoed around the clearing, and was met with silence. “Oh, ‘your loyal followers’? I’m sorry, your memory must be failing you! From what I remember, the majority of your cats either fought for Brokenstar, or stood by, watching and doing nothing like cowards! Do you forget about Onepaw and Firepaw, the entire ThunderClan patrol, for StarClan’s sake, Silverpaw? She gave her life to get that wretch out of the Clans, and she’s being rewarded with what? What?” He genuinely paused, even if it seemed to be a rhetorical question. No one answered.
“She gets to be brushed over, forgotten, and given no credit. Was RiverClan even told how she died, or could you not even push away that small of an amount of your fragile pride? Or are you so fox-hearted to completely forget about how a young apprentice threw away her life for your Clan?
“And then you have the audacity to call yourself ‘Nightstar’! There is only one group of cats that can give you such a name; StarClan. It isn’t something self-given! By StarClan, you don’t even have nine lives! Oh, and what is your excuse? You had half a whole moon to take the short trip to the Moonstone! Were you so busy with repairing your Clan that not a single night could be spared? Or did you- did you find it unnecessary to- to-”
Greypaw’s flow of speaking was interrupted, and he shook his head, growling. “You disgust me, Nightpelt.”
And with that, the grey apprentice stormed off, shoving through the crowd to the outskirts of the clearing to where Firepaw couldn’t see him.
Firepaw found himself shocked into silence. He knew that Greypaw was upset by Silverpaw’s death, but he wasn’t aware it was still to the point where he’d belittle a Clan leader in front of a Gathering.
The other cats in the clearing were similarly silent.
Firepaw felt a strong urge to follow his hurt friend- Greypaw was clearly very upset, and Firepaw could only hope he’d be okay.
However, he wasn’t able to do this.
Bluestar’s voice echoed around the clearing. “I think it is best we end the Gathering. We all are finished sharing information.”
The other leaders agreed, and just like that, the cats below were set in motion, preparing to leave.
Still, Firepaw couldn’t help but desperately hope Greypaw was okay.

Is It Ashfur?
SPOILERS FOR THE SILENT THAW PREVIEW AND SQUIRRELFLIGHT’S HOPE BELOW
Also, it’s hella long. Sorry about that
So, is Ashfur possessing Bramblestar? That’s the most common theory, though a lot of us don’t like it. A new character would be refreshing as the villain if a bit confusing as to why they have a grudge against the clans.
[Again, spoilers for Squirrelflight’s Hope]
Near the end of the book, Squirrelflight and Leafpool arrive in Starclan and are greeted by Larksong, who died of poisoning (a mouse ate a plant that made it poisonous to cats) and his son Flickerkit (who was named in Starclan, Flickerkit’s name was the key to getting Sparkpelt to believe that Squirrelflight was in Starclan for a period of time).
After reuniting with loved ones, Firestar takes Leafpool and Squirrelflight to see Tallstar, Bluestar, Crookedstar, Yellowfang, Littlecloud, and Moth Flight to be judged before Starclan. An important thing to note here is that Squirrelflight and Leafpool are the ONLY CATS known to be able to argue their place in Starclan.
All these cats were ones that the two knew at some point in their lives, and I believe that Moth Flight was there because Leafpool specifically broke her code.
The point here though is that cats like Hollyleaf, Ashfur, Appledusk, Ravenwing, Yellowfang, Bluestar, and others didn’t have to prove their case to be allowed in, despite their crimes.
(Their ‘crimes’ listed here)
Hollyleaf- Broke the code, killed a clanmate, abandoned her clan Ashfur- Attempted to kill his leader and four of his clanmates Appledusk- Took a mate outside of his clan, didn’t help kits cross the river, therefore, letting them drown. Ravenwing- The catalyst to Mapleshade’s breakdown, if he kept quiet the kits would be alive, indirectly broke the code. Yellowfang- Took a mate as a medicine cat, didn’t help her son down the right path which led to more suffering. Bluestar- Took a mate outside her clan, almost ignored one of Starclan’s prophecies for her kits, took her kits to Riverclan in the dead of Leaf-bare which lead to Mosskit’s death, ignored Goosefeather’s warnings about Tigerkit, didn’t acknowledge the signs that he was a traitor, eventually declared war on Starclan (Yes, I know that this was because of her depression and paranoia, I’ll get to it soon).
Obviously, I don’t believe that Blue, Holly, Yellow, or (begrudgingly) Raven deserved the Dark Forest, Hollyleaf was protecting her family, Bluestar was dealt a ROUGH life, Yellowfang more than made up for her crimes, and Ravenwing was doing his job.
But Starclan was hard on Squirrel and Leaf, to the point that I holey agreed with Squirrelflight’s sentiments during that whole segment.
But where should Starclan be drawing the line?
Blue, Holly, and Yellowfang ALL held remorse for their actions. Ashfur didn’t, and I doubt Appledusk did either. Ashfur knowingly tried to get Firestar killed, we don’t really know if him sending Birchpaw to warn Brambleclaw was an act of cowardice for what he did, or if it was part of the plan to get Brambleclaw to the scene so it could be pinned on him.
Ashfur tried to kill the three, one who was his former apprentice, another a loyal warrior, and a blind MEDICINE CAT APPRENTICE. He knew what he was doing, he had a motive and a clear mind. He let them live because he believed that by revealing this secret, he could uproot Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw’s ENTIRE RELATIONSHIP, therefore causing more damage
(Tbh, I like to think that if the three hadn’t found out about Leafpool’s side and Ashfur went forward with it, Squirrelflight would have admitted to adopting them as kits, but because they needed a mother, which she wanted to be. She then would have told Brambleclaw that she was afraid she may never be able to have kits so she adopted without telling him. THEY WERE STILL THE THREE’S PARENTS DAMMIT)
Appledusk was an asshole, moving on.
I’d like to compare Ashfur and Mapleshade for a moment, their situations seem rather similar.
Both- Fell in love, only for it to end badly
Ashfur was replaced by Brambleclaw (Same clan relationships) Mapleshade was replaced by Reedshine (Different clans)
Both- Felt cheated by the ones they loved Mapleshade- Actually had kits with this mate Ashfur-  Didn’t have any kits
Mapleshade- Wanted to have a life with Appledusk after being banished with her kits Ashfur- Attempted to make Brambleclaw look bad to win Squirrelflight back
Both- Wanted revenge when they were wronged by their clanmate(s)
Mapleshade followed through Ashfur was not able to (Whether out of cowardice or being thwarted, I am unsure)
Really, the only difference between them was that Mapleshade was able to get her revenge when Ashfur couldn’t.
BUT
Mental Illnesses are canon in warriors
Bluestar- Depression, anxiety, paranoia, dementia Graypool- Dementia Ravenpaw- General anxiety Goosefeather- Delusions Sol- Sociopath (as confirmed by Vicky on her facebook page) Hollyleaf- OCD (Personal opinion, she was obsessed with the warrior code to the point that she actually scared Jaypaw at one point)
And those are just the ones that I know of.
Mapleshade also suffered from delusions after the traumatic death of her kits, she believed that she was actually seeing and hearing her kits telling her to get revenge so that they could be at peace in starclan. And considering that warriors DO believe in ghosts and the afterlife, this is an entirely plausible assumption.
Now, in Starclan we know that cats are judged before they actually wake up in Starclan or the Dark Forest, which means that if we can assume that these cats have human-level intelligence, they also have some sort of trial system. Which also means that they have set-precedents.
Mapleshade going to the Dark Forest should have set the precedent that any cat who breaks the code and takes a mate outside of his or her clan (and kills other cats) should go to the Dark Forest as well.
Bluestar went to Starclan, despite taking Oakheart as a mate and indirectly killing her own kit by taking her into unsafe conditions during Leafbare.
Silverstream went to Starclan, despite taking Graystripe as her mate and died in the process. Her death doesn’t necessarily absolve her of her ‘crime’, but she went to Starclan anyway.
It probably looks like I’m grasping at straws here, but that’s the point I’m trying to make. Starclan drew the line too soon, and as such became more understanding when warriors sought mates outside of their clans.
Mapleshade was Starclan’s first mistake, though she did kill three cats (A medicine cat, a clanmate, and her former mate), she was not sound of mind when she did so. She believed she was acting on the whims of her dead kits so that they could rest in peace.
She may not have deserved Starclan, but she didn’t deserve the Dark Forest either. I remember seeing an AU where Mapleshade recovered her sanity after she died and was told that the only way she could join Starclan was to help a living cat find their way. She tries to do this in the AU but Appledusk undermines her, and she eventually considers embracing the Dark Forest’s values.
The only thing I would change about that AU is that I would make Mapleshade a ghost, stuck on the living plane until she completed her duty (and maybe she’s even granted access to the living plane whenever she wants so that she can keep helping her clanmates).
Ashfur was Starclan’s second mistake. He knew exactly what he was doing when he helped Hawkfrost lay the trap for Firestar, blocking the three from crossing the burning branch was a CHOICE, even fighting Lionpaw/blaze like an enemy warrior with the intent to HARM was a choice. Being blinded by rage is not the same as having delusions.
Maybe Starclan allowed him to join their ranks was because they were afraid that he’d be another Mapleshade, that he’d help recruit for the Dark Forest. But Ashfur’s sentence would have been justified, more so than Mapleshade (in my opinion).
We know that Jayfeather disapproves of Ashfur in Starclan, but what about Hollyleaf? Well apparently, she doesn’t care.
Squirrelfight’s reaction to seeing Ashfur was immediate hostility, though Ashfur didn’t speak to her, merely dipped his head and looked at Hollyleaf. Hollyleaf simply blinks at him, and Squirrelflight nods curtly.
When Squirrelflight comments on Ashfur being in Starclan rather than the Dark Forest, Hollyleaf says “I guess, but he’s apologized. I think he’s changed.”
Direct quote from page 339 of Squirrelflight’s Hope
Squirrelflight nodded curtly at Ashfur. She wasn’t sure she could be as forgiving as Hollyleaf. After all, Ashfur had threatened to destroy the happiness she’d found with Bramblestar and almost succeeded.
Another thing that’s interesting about Starclan is that things seem to matter less, the problems a cat had with others in the living world are trivial when they’re dead, Hollyleaf states when asked again about if living with Ashfur is strange “Not really, after a while, things that happened in the forest seems less important.”
So that’s how Hollyleaf feels, at peace with everything. Even Sandstorm says that there’s less to fight over, but is that how everyone feels in Starclan?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just to be clear, I am neither for nor against Ashfur Being Good. I hated how his character seemed to flip around just for the sake of romance drama between Squirrel and Bramble. I wish he had a better character arc, I wish that certain things from previous books had actually affected him continued into future books rather than being forgotten.
That being said, everything I have pulled up on him has been based on what he HAS done and what the Erin’s turned him into.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So, my theory here is that Ashfur is kind of at peace in Starclan. He doesn’t react badly to seeing Squirrelflight and Leafpool because he’s dead, they’re probably dying, and the Dark Forest battle isn’t something he wants to repeat.
But then Squirrelflight was able to return to the lake as a ghost by submerging herself in Starclan’s Moonpool.
How do we know that Ashfur wasn’t watching her? What if this gave him the idea to return to the lake? He could have initially gone just to see his clanmates, but seeing Bramblestar and Squirrelflight reconcile may have returned his anger, enough to make him want revenge.
Another thing to add here is what do we know about ghosts? Needletail and the others weren’t able to move on to starclan without help, they were trapped in the living plane as ghosts. We don’t know if Starclan cats CAN return to the living plane at will, or if the Dark Forest battle was the exception.
The timeline that we have puts Tigerheartstar’s kits as still apprentices, who we know were made warriors prior to Bristlepaw and her siblings, and it’s not yet Leafbare in Squirrelflight’s Hope. This gives us a window of time that Ashfur may have used to return to the lake as a ghost.
Ashfur has the motive and the means, his spirit likes on so there’s no confusing explanation for a supposedly double dead cat possessing Bramblestar.
And most importantly? Squirrelflight’s Hope tells us that even though many cats were forgiven for breaking the code, part of Starclan doesn’t accept that. They ARE angry that the code is being disregarded, Littlecloud even says, “What’s the point in having rules if cats can break them whenever they like?”
Squirrelflight notices how Moth Flight seems to be determined to keep Leafpool out of Starclan.
I can’t think of anything else to add, so here’s the summary of this theory
Ashfur has the means and the motives, Starclan is angered by all of the code breakers, and Ashfur has is known for taking advantage of situations for his own gain.
It could still be an ancient Starclan cat, fed up with the codebreakers, maybe even Moth Flight herself.
(Lost Stars, Bramblestar says to Squirrelflight, “You would make excuses for them, you’ve always had a soft spot for weak cats.” This could be Ashfur, or Moth Flight who was her judge in Starclan.)
Anywho, that’s all I’ve got. Lemme know what you guys think!
