fic snippet (intended to be part of a much longer pre-season 3 fic, but i think i’m very funny and clever so i’m sharing this now):

“Any requests, princess?”

Jaskier has been a persona non grata in Cintra all of Ciri’s life (she’s identified at least two reasons why by now) so she’s not familiar with his work.

“Play a love song, but a sad one.” It would suit the sort of mood she was in.

“Oh, I have the perfect song for that. It’s about a man and a siren. Geralt hates it,” Jaskier said with a smile.

“Because that’s not what happened.”

“And what did happen, my dear Witcher?”

“Firstly, she’s a mermaid, not a siren. And they’re happily married.”

“Oh ho ho! That, I sincerely doubt. People who wed that quickly and without even bothering to learn each other's languages rarely are. And people scoff when I say you’re the romantic of the two of us.”

Geralt’s mouth bowed into something dangerously close to a pout.

“Just play the song, bard,” Yennefer snipped. And Jaskier looked at her, all soft like he was totally certain she didn’t mean it, and Yennefer smiled apologetically for a single moment before she dropped her gaze.

3. What inspired [insert fic]?

I actually put some of that info into the notes at the beginning of the fic. XD I read kyele’s “lest ye be judged” one-shot which was the first fic I can remember that went with the whole “R ichelieu isn’t dead, he’s been abducted!” plot and decided I needed to play with that idea (particularly the idea of Treville realising he can’t trust his musketeers post-s2 as much as he might have previously, and certainly not where Richelieu’s life is concerned).

I started writing a couple of scenes of Richelieu all downtrodden in his cell, put it aside for a while, and then read be_cum’s “no peace to the sword” which has all this wonderful Inferno intertext which is simply amazing for trevilieu fic, so I decided I’d steal- uuh, be inspired by that as well, since I read the Commedia a while back (albeit in German with lots of explanatory footnotes XD) and really enjoyed it, and so that’s where all the references to hell and purgatory in The Circle of Traitors came from (and the title, of course).

11. What’s a fanfic idea you haven’t done yet? 

Oh boy. I have so many notes for fics that I haven’t even started yet. You know I want to write at least … *counts* …. five more Trevilieu fics, but those at least already have some paragraphs written. (I can’t believe I still haven’t gotten around to write that “how they met” fic).

As for fics that aren’t even that far along, that’d be pretty much everything that isn’t musketeers.

I’ve had this idea in my head for a while for a Witcher/Geralt saga fic (book canon) about Dandelion getting into trouble in a Sängerkrieg type of situation and tying that madness to the Loreley myth. So basically the premise of this fic would be: world class singer, in order to cheat at a minstrel constest that escalated into a life-or-death situation very fast, goes to find an alluring, deadly river spirit whose songs are spells (so a typical Witcher road trip situation but using the the local folklore I’m familiar with), but I haven’t even really gotten into the planning stages for that one yet. It’s just a nice idea.
