i could see how they would kill off tom. there’s been some things which could suggest it [the story of mog, who wanted to sleep forever, and so she did. maybe it was just a red herring nod towards what happened to kendall and actually is connected to tom, because of the sleep issues, and that early review said the whole deal with tom’s sleep issues is important]. and people have been guessing throughout the whole season that one of the siblings would die, it would definitely be something a little more... shocking/surprising i guess? i know we’re coming up with theories right now, but it is right before episode 9. no one has suspected it would be tom until the past few days.
having said that i would rather they didn’t do that. we’ve only just started to see tom actually stand up for himself and consider himself worth something, worth fighting to stay alive. we’ve seen him not crumble under guilt and shame and to something he normally would. we’ve seen him open up a little, we’ve seen that sincere side of him blossom, underneath the comedy. it would be kind of a shame to throw that away, at least that’s what i think.

Sometimes I'm happy that every time something horrific comes out about a metal band, it's never one of my faves.
Then I remember that most of my faves have like 5 fans including the singer's grandma, and that I probably wouldn't know if they were terrible people because no one would write about it and for the most part I don't know them personally.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Trent’s return at the start of the episode, because his ending struck me as a definitive one. Were you also surprised to have a bigger role this season? I found out that Trent would be featuring more in season three in between seasons one and two. You see, I had a really interesting thing happen with this role. After I finished my very first scene in the first season, I was walking through the car park and Jason stopped me and said, “Hey, it’s really good to have you onboard. I love what you’re doing with Trent.” And we had a three-minute conversation that changed the course of my career and Trent’s life.
Well, now I have to hear about this conversation. I said to him that I felt the reason Trent was the way he was has to do with his father. He had a dad who really wanted him to be a manly man and be sporty, but Trent wasn’t that guy. So he hit the library and donned intellect as his shield and armor. Jason was looking at me sort of mystified, and he said, “Hey, I’m going to tell you something. This whole show is about bad dads.” And I said, “Really?” And he said, “Yeah. The reason Ted is the way he is is because his father committed suicide and he decided to embrace life and adopt that positive attitude.” And I was like, “Oh, wow. Well, this is really resonating with Trent as well.” And then I said, “I think he’s bored of sports journalism. There’s more in there. He’s not living the life he wants to live.” Jason just nodded and went, “Okay, yeah, great.” And that was it. It sparked something that was maybe already in Jason and it certainly fanned the flames for what’s going to happen in season three.
There’s a moment in the season-one episode “Trent Crimm: The Independent” when Trent is tasked with basically eviscerating Ted in the press. Of course, that’s not what happens at all because he realizes he’s dealing with somebody quite special and unique. During that scene in the Indian restaurant, Ted says something that blows Trent’s heart open: “It’s not about the winning and losing, it’s about these boys becoming the best versions of themselves both on and off the pitch, and it ain’t always easy, especially if they’ve had a tough childhood.” That spoke directly to me with Trent’s backstory. As a boy, he’d always wanted to hear something like that. He’s now looking at this extraordinary father figure, which really does change Trent’s perspective and sends him on a journey in the background.

"#love every time we made dave a question and he went all fanficcy #this one and the post-survival one" hello i have a BURNING need to know..... which post-survival question did he answer?
Hi! Sorry for the month-long delay in answering this! I don’t usually get asks on this account so I kept forgetting and say I’d answer as soon as I got to check Dave’s Q&As again, which I kept not being able to check. Anywho, the question I was referring to here was made by Liv on the Q&A session that took place on the 25th of June. You can find the complete recording and transcripts here (along with other fantastic fan-curated resources if you’re new to the fandom.)
Q: If the expedition had been rescued around, say, episode 8/9, and made it home, how do you think the various relationships that developed on screen would have fared back in ““civilization””? Would the intimacies some of these men formed between them persist? I’m also curious to know if you think any of them would resign from the Navy, be it for whatever reason: ethical, practical, physical, to explore other parts of themselves, etc.
I’m gonna try to be as brief as possible because Dave gave a very long response (find the non-abridged version in the link provided above), but this was the meat of it:
Crozier and Blanky would talk endlessly about quitting the Navy but only Crozier would. This doesn’t mean that Blanky would do this comfortably, as he’d already have survived two naval expeditions that turned out badly, so maybe he’d join a whaling ship, even if that would also have gotten under his skin.
He doesn’t think any of the surviving Lieutenants would have come back anywhere close to the poles, but he does think that most of them would have succumbed to the calling of fame and glory, i.e. wanting to return to the sea now that they had been named Commanders or Captains of their own vessels.
He’s not sure if Fitzjames would have been brave enough to stay aside of the Navy, even if during those three months he learnt a lot more about himself that what keeping the same persona for thirty years had brought him. He thinks Fitzjames would have written a “hell of a memoir” as well as a “hell of a military career, and that he would have stayed friends with Crozier, even if some of the things that happened in the Arctic would never have been mentioned again.
Goodsir would return to visit Silna “as often as possible.” Not for romantic reasons, but because there’d have been “a friendship there”. (also, taking into account he is making up all these scenarios after 8 or 9 the tuunbaq would have lived.)
“I think Bridgens and Peglar [smiles] would have worked like dogs to be able to afford some goddamn privacy where they could be together for the rest of their lives. [laughs]”
Pilkington and Des Voeux would have stayed friends.
“Little and Hodgson would be in one another’s lives.” They’d help each other patch themselves up after what happened because they’d both be in denial about everything that went down, helping create “a more palatable story about themselves”.
Sophia would feel like she’d have to choose between Lady Jane and Crozier and would chose the former, especially after the loss of her uncle.
Jopson would have stayed close to Crozier, they’d stay best friends for the rest of their lives.
Golding would commit suicide at some point, he was not equipped to deal with everything that happened and much less to go on living carrying it with him.
David Young’s ring would have been delivered to his sister. (with one of the crystal diamonds having fallen off during the journey.)
Mr Diggle would have been fine and stayed friend with some of the AB’s and midshipmen, but not with anyone else further up the hierarchy.
Collins would have lived a very quiet life, as most of what troubled him was PTSD.
Hartnell would have had a family and lived a quiet life. He’d have stayed close to Manson and from time to time he might have met with Crozier.
Hickey would have ended up in prison if he managed not to ger executed. If Tozer and him had ended up in the same prison they would have avoided each other for years, until they realized they were the one’s more suited for each other’s rest and protection. It’s tricky for Dave to say if they’d have become lovers because he is unsure about Tozer, but it’s prison so HE’LL LET US DECIDE. [ten seconds later he changed his mind] Tozer would have turned to Hickey for that kind of comfort and ended up murdering him, while Hickey convinced himself that he was the one letting himself be murdered. (This is already a very long ask, if you want more details on Hickey’s Vermont sex-cult, ping me and I’ll expand on it, because it was an answer from a different day and I don’t currently have it at hand.)
Gibson wouldn’t have wanted nothing to do with anyone. He might have found some new expedition or a house where he could work in as a domestic servant, but he wouldn’t have told anyone.
Hope this helped!

The Old Therebefore
(Yandere Wriothesley songfic)
connected to my Yandere Neuvillette & Wriothesley series- Yandere Neuvillette & Wriothesly’s darling thoughts, Nothing You Can Take From Me Was Worth Keeping , I’m Bad But Then Your No Prize Either , post story headcannons, Pankration ring rules, Heartbreaking comparisons, Wriothesley’s darling escaping, Encountering his escaped darling, Wriothesley getting hurt by his darling, Neuvillette’s darling escaping, The Birth of the End
TW- This does have hinted at topics of suicidal thoughts towards the end so read with caution
Tumblr media
You're headed for heaven, the sweet old hereafter
And I've got one foot in the door
Everyone knows of the Duke of Meropides’s darling, but next to no one actually knows her. The last time anyone saw her was a number of years ago when she just returned to Fontaine, when she was playing in a traveling band. After a small show in the Court of Fontaine they were arrested on the grounds of entering the city without proper documentation, but that was the last time  anyone saw her. Well that is until a number of months later where she was seen at the Duke’s side when he was going to a meeting with the Iudex of Fontaine and there she was, at his side, and with child.
But before I can fly up, I've loose ends to tie up
Right here, in the old there-before
Gossip spread through Fontaine like wildfire, but none of it was true.  One of them knew what happened to her before all that, long before all that. No one knew how a number of years ago how she was arrested under charges that seemed to be kept from the public eyes. No one knew about her private trial, no there was no jury, only her, the Iudex, her defense, and the Oratrice Mecanique d'Analyse Cardinale. No one knows how she was found guilty of a crime she didn’t commit. No one knows how her friend broke her out of the containment facility before she was transferred to the fortress. No one knows about all those months on the run she spent before they were caught. No one knows about the years she spent in captivity in the fortress, kept away from all the world. No one knows that she ran agin, but inevitably had her wings clipped again.
And I'll be along when I've finished my song
When I've shut down the band
When I've played out my hand
When I've paid all my debts
What people know is what is printed in the papers, a beautiful couple who had only been spotted, no actual formal public appearances. The rumors spread about how the Duke’s darling hated public appearances, wanting a break after her music career (if you could call it that). Then there was also the talk of where they live because certainly she would not live at the fortress when with child.
When I have no regrets
Right here, in the old there-before
When nothing is left anymore
Well that much was true, she did not live at the fortress, anymore. A number of months in her pregnancy she was moved to the countryside of Fontaine, in a small cottage. Then by the time she gave birth to their baby girl, Wriothesley would never leave her side. That’s why he had the meeting with Iudex, to help prepare for time off for his child’s birth.
And I'll catch you up
When I've emptied my cup
When I've worn-out my friends
When I've burned out both ends
In those first few weeks he spent at home, with his darling and daughter, helping make sure his daughter is healthy and darling is recovered from the birth. After those first few weeks or months, he returns to work at the fortress during the days. His darling, since she still had a baby to look after was still tied down, she would not be able to escape with their daughter. She was so cut off from the outside world despite not being trapped under the sea level.
When I've cried all my tears
When I've conquered my fears
Right here, in the old there-before
When nothing is left anymore
Years passed and their baby grew into a little girl, no older than six or seven. The darling watched as her freedom and life slipped by. Sure she was not bound by locked iron doors and metal chains, but now she was bound by child and wedding band. Now the only semblance of freedom she had were the days Wriothesley took them to the city, her daughter saw these as fun family days but the darling was only able to see it as the world that was take from her, but a world that praised the relationship she was in. So now she would much rather spend her days back at the cottage, because then she could lay down in the grass with peace and quiet, no little comments from conversations of people they passed, no clicking of cameras of reporters who spotted them. She was able to be alone with her thoughts, and that’s was as much freedom she got.
And I'll bring the news
When I've danced off my shoes
When my body's closed down
It was the best when her daughter was napping, put into bed. This was her time to be, she could go outside, sitting in the field of grass that acted as her prison, and just be. She used to play music for an audience, now she only sung for herself. Sometimes she like to sing, but sometimes she hated it, both for the same reason, it reminds her of the life she had and lost.
When I've tallied the score
And I'm flat on the floor
Right here, in the old there-before
When nothing is left anymore
But then this moment of peace was almost always ruined by a reminder of her captivity, normally this would be her daughter waking up from her nap and coming outside to listen to her mother sing. But every once and awhile this would be ruined by a muscular hand coming to brush the hair out of her face and a kiss to her cheek, a reminder that her captor still exists.
When I'm pure like a dove
When I've learned how to love
He would call her songbird sometimes, especially in front of their daughter to get silly reactions out of her. But underneath the smile the darling forced, she hated it all, the attention from the jailbird. Sometimes she wished that when she laid down in the grass and closed her eyes that she wouldn’t wake up again.
Right here, in the old there-before
When nothing is left anymore

Question for Javert Fans
Tumblr media
Do you think it’s likely that part of the reason Javert committed suicide was because he felt guilty about the students at the barricade dying when he could have put a stop to it, or at least helped to?
I think this is one of many reasons besides the disruption of his single minded world view, his likely lifelong battle with depression and anxiety stemming from his childhood and perhaps some deeper personal regret that he hadn’t had much of a life outside of his career as a man of the law and justice.
While I think (I haven’t got to this point in the book yet so this is an assumption of sorts) he thought the students where idiots for putting themselves in that position and wasting their lives he probably had a rush of negative emotions on seeing them dead and started wrestling with his conscience over it. Then Valjean’s final act of mercy in saving Marius pushed his sanity to its final breaking point.
I know I’m reading very deep into this and I can’t help it. Like a dog with a bone I chew on this part of Javert’s story for a while then I stash it away in my mind until I find it again when I’m not looking for it then I chew on it a bit more.

No current drama with that ML (especially ML not being a fictional person but Qin Shi Huang himself) would ever pass censorship now.
But, more to the point, what I love about this drama is, forget the term "red flag" beloved by the kids nowadays - this man is shown a bona fide ambitious, capable, magnetic monster. No coy flag terms needed. He's totally fit to be a period ruler, but as a romantic choice, oh boy! (His troops also murder FL's grandpa on their conquering rampage, but he's not personally involved, so that is the least of his problems.)
Between that first ep, the historical QSH and the fact that this is a prequel of sorts to Legend of Qin, which follows FL's son and where QSH is the villain (!), everything about this screams "this is a not a man who will mellow and reform due to the love of a good woman." But the drama is so brilliant because it uses the viewers' own yearning for a proper romance narrative, their experience with the default narratives being "ruthless man reforms for love" and the fact that not only does the OTP have great chemistry, but that ZBB, who as ML gives the best performance of his career imo, does portray the ML as someone who is impossibly magnetic and impossibly intense and utterly, completely in love with Dilraba's FL, to lead on the viewers to go "but what if...maybe...maybe?!" Only to then slap you with that infamous ending. (One of my favorite, most logical tragic endings of all time.)
God, this drama is SO GOOD!
youtube
ETA: I always thought that ending was both a perfect punishment and a perfect test. Because she knew, KNEW, he would kill her if she came at him with a weapon. But the thing he has to live with is not just the knowledge she merely used him to commit suicide by cop because she flipped the dagger at the last moment making it clear she never planned to hurt him, but the knowledge that it was also a test by her, wasn't it? If he loved her enough to be willing to risk being hurt/killed by her, to trust her, she'd be alive, he'd be unhurt, and I think this would have given them another chance - she'd have known he loved her above himself even when it looked like her love turned to hate, and I think this really would have enabled them to be happy in the future. But, as she knew he would, he failed that test. And he has to live not just with the knowledge that he killed the woman he loved and who never intended to harm him, but with the knowledge that he took his future of happiness away himself.

Some Hazbin Hotel death symbolism theories/headcanons
So yeah this is gonna be darker since the show literally revolves around characters in hell
Tw for drugs, suicide, murder, cannibalism, mentions of racism & and idk what to call it like in-character cultural insensitivity (if anyone knows how to tag that better lmk) , and various forms of abuse under the read more
Also I know these will probably get disproven within like 5 minutes once the show comes out, but I think they'd still be cool for an AU or something!
Vaggie: I'm gonna start out with a potentially controversial theory here: Her death X eye could be more symbolic than literal, with her choosing to "turn a blind eye" to something in life that eventually lead to her committing suicide out of guilt, and her moth features symbolizing her having been focused on a certain goal or priority to a selfish or harmful degree in life like a "moth to a flame". Putting these together, maybe she allowed something to happen either to someone directly or in such a way that they ended up being harmed/killed in the pursuit of a goal or belief and once she realized the scope of her actions she committed suicide. Maybe once she's in hell she's all but forced into a career of a bodyguard for the ruling families of hell as some kind of ironic punishment (though in her particular case it ends up working out well for her since she and Charlie fall in love)
Since her moth features are much less pronounced than Valentino, perhaps it serves as a reflection of how she realized the harm her selfish focus caused before she died.
Speaking of him, Valentino's highly pronounced moth features could suggest that his selfish focuses were much worse and more self-serving than Vaggie's were (unsurprising given his character) and his addictive smoke powers could mean he died in a fire (my theory is he went into a club that he ran during a fire to retrieve a stache of money and drugs he had hidden inside and perished due to smoke inhalation (meaning he 1 has no visible death x, 2 has a death x on his chest that we haven't seen yet, or 3 his death x shows up sometimes in the red smoke he breathes).
I wrote a fanfiction about a headcanon for Sir Pentious's backstory But the main takeaways from it are I think that he worked with poisons, became paralyzed prior to his death by them, his drug addicted son killed him in a fit of withdrawls with a shattered vial of snake venom, his death X is on his chest where he was stabbed and is hidden by a large fake eye that he wears over it. The other eyes across his body are because he became paranoid after becoming paralyzed. He knows his son went to hell along with him so he's continually searching for him, but doesn't realize that his daughter did as well several years later.
With Niffty, I theorize that her mother died when she was relatively young and she was expected by her male relatives to take up the duties of a housewife and surrender any degree of ambition she may have held about school or a career (even those that fell within the limitations of the time period). Her one hope was that if she was able to get married she'd at least be able to have some degree of freedom from her abusive controlling relatives. Given as many housewives commonly used stimulants that would be considered dangerous and illegal today to increase their productivity and lessen their desires to eat, it's hardly a stretch to think that Niffty would have tried (or been pressured into trying) them as well. It's my belief that she died due to a heart condition that was made much worse by taking the stimulants and her death X is over her heart (and this is why she has speed related abilities). Her large cyclopic eye could be symbolic of her feeling like she constantly needed to be vigilant while still being aware that there were things she wasn't getting to see in life Perhaps her small size is due to her being younger when she died (roughly 18 to 20) and that her death name is taken from the brand of the stimulants.
With Cherri Bomb her cyclopic eye that is functional despite the X may be because she, like Vaggie, chose to allow people to be harmed when she had the power to stop it, but her connection to it was less direct than Vaggie's was (perhaps she created weaponry for an extremist organization, but she didn't realize civilians would be harmed). Within this theory, she may have died sabotaging the organization, perhaps blowing up a bomb within their headquarters o unsuccessfully attempting to dismantle one on the civilian site (with her cause of death being the shrapnel impaling her). She is not ashamed of her death X, and chooses to wear clothing that implies its location.
I headcanon Vox as having been a corrupt journalist in life, overlooked due to a severe stutter in childhood and left with something to prove, he was willing to write false (but convincing) news reports for people about their competitors (ranging from small-scale businesses to political candidates) and come up with convincing doctored photographs. He wanted to quit the lifestyle and settle down with a lady he had convinced to be his fiance (she didn't really love him, but she had a daughter to care for and he genuinely cared for the both of them), so he accepted "one last job" that he believed would leave him with enough to live comfortably in anonymity. The job ended up being a set-up by someone he had previously wronged or their friends/family and was drugged, beaten, and left for dead in an alley. In his final moments he weakly tried to call attention to himself but was unable to get anyone to notice him due to a display window full of new televisions drawing a crowd and drowning out his pleas for their notice.
He has no visible death X due to dying of internal bleeding, but he still bears marks of his death with his eyes always appearing mismatched from three red lines that frequently appear in the lower left corner serve as his marker no matter how often he changes his features. Deeply saddened he was unable to be a father to his fiancee's daughter back in life, he views Velvet as an adoptive daughter. He waited hopefully for many years to see either of them again and his both relived and distraught that they seem to avoided hell.
With Alastor I'm like 99.99% certain this is already fully incorrect, but fuck it this is a headcanon post (also this one is long bc unlike Sir P I didn't get around to writing out the fic before now: Conceived through wealthy white man's abuse of a cook he employed who was of mixed race, meaning her abuser was fully unpunished for his crimes. Though unmarried and in poor health, she kept Alastor, viewing him as proof and hoping he would one day deliver vengeance upon the people who wronged her. He grew up in the care of his ailing mother who, sadly viewed him more as her poised dagger than as her son, and his grandmother who loved him dearly, but lived primarily in her own memories and passed away by the time he was 10 years old. Before she died would tell him lengthy stories about the family he'd never gotten a chance to meet and he would listen, enraptured by the rich tapestries of lineage she described, with his favorite stories being the ones about the Native American man who had been in love with her father's mother, and, she suspected, was well more than just a friend of the family. She didn't know much about the man, but that only served to fuel Alastor's imagination.
Though he hated the man who had given it to him, his lighter skin brought him advantages that were not typical to those in his situation, the most prominent being that he was able gain employment at a rather prominent local radio station in the next town over, and, given time, talent, poor studio lighting, and a false last name, work his way onto the airwaves. He put up with a lot during those long years, forcing himself to stay silent and keep a smiling face through his bosses & colleagues flippant racism, promising himself that it would be worth it one day and that hey'd be "singing a different tune" once he'd worked his way up to the top. He was right, but not in any of the ways he ever expected to be.
Short version, he was found out and fired (despite a degree of public outcry, as his program was quite popular) and he found himself unemployed and, one night, drinking alone. His mother had passed away of a violent seizure a month ago to the day and he was drowning his shames of failure in both his career and of her (she'd had her high expectations of him clear from the moment he was born).
Another man came into the bar, small, tan, scruffy, limping, with some tattoos visible. He hobbled over to the bar stool next to Alastor and with evident glee recognized his voice from the radio and with a bit more effusive praise dolled out between the pours of liquor they became the fastest of friends. When the bar shut its doors, well why didn't they continue their lively chat in Alastor's kitchen? Neither of them had anyone waiting for them at home or much business to attend to in the morning. So that was precisely what they did.
Though he tried his best, Alastor could not seem to pronounce the young man's name. It sounded to him almost like the gecker of a fox (though he blamed this on the copias amounts of bourbon swimming in his brain), and after his third slurred attempt the young man waived his apologies away and said to call him Shilo.
Shilo proved to be a very good listener that evening and, as it happened, in the coming weeks. Most would have balked at the rantings and declarations of vengeance of a total stanger, but not him. He followed each word earnestly, soaking everything in until he was finally ready to make his move.
It was truly such a shame Alastor knew so little about his lineage and about his great grandfather's culture, perhaps he wouldn't have so readily accepted Shilo's claims that he could be granted power, vengeance, and justice through a "dark magic ritual". Maybe if his mother had seen him as someone to love instead of something made to avenge her he would have been harder to talk him into performing 7 so-called "rituals" of murder and cannibalism. Who's to say? End the end the decisions were his own.
He chose people adjacent to his mother's abuser (Shilo was clear on this point, that he mustn't yet strike his target directly, that the ritual was about "absorbing the lights in his life to let you see beyond and leave him blind in the dark". Alastor took down
His uncle (his father's brother) first (a horrid man who, in Alastor's defence, reached for his pistol solely in response to his approaching him)
The house's head butler who had turned out Alastor's mother for "causing trouble",
His own half-brother (he took more pleasure in this than he cares to admit even now, knowing so little and so much separated their respective fates)
His half-brother's fiancee, as she became a convenient next victim
His father's bank broker
His father's chauffeur (for suspecting and confronting him).
And finally, the cook who replaced his mother. That's where things went wrong.
Shilo instructed Alastor to take the body of the victim into the woods once night had fallen, and he complied as he had each time before, but this time as he ate he became overwrought with the guilt of what he'd done, to murder someone fully innocent, whose position was nearly identical to his own mother's all of those years ago.
Shilo was furious when Alastor began to plead to back out of the ritual, insisting that he could well have his vengeance for it all, that once he slit his throat with the so-called ceremonial blade of bone he would awake a spirit of vengence, brimming with all of the power of his ancestors. He tried to press said blade into Alastor's bloody and shaking hands, but he swatted it away as waves of bile doubled him over and he purged most of his night's kill from his stomach.
Alastor watched Shilo's easygoing facade melting away along with his human form, morphing into a snarling canine with a mouth of sharp fangs that dribbled bloody foam. Interwoven between the creature's rage filled huffs and undercurrent of a fox's chitter slipped the words "Oh, Al. You really shouldn't have done that."
He ran for hours through the forest. Shilo, or whatever called itself that anyhow, kept pace at his heels, sometimes overtaking him and ripping away a fresh chunk of flesh or snapping a bone with its massive jaws before falling back to keep the chase going.
Horrifically bloodied and mutilated but somehow still moving he eventually managed to attract the attention of some hunters, who seemingly managed to scare off his pursuer with a few warning shots. Needless to say, Alastor collapsed the moment the beast was no longer on his heels.
One could argue that they meant well, doing what they did. He was very plainly in agony, with his neck and limbs lolling grotesquely, and they really could do virtually nothing to care for him. He wouldn't even let them touch him to try and staunch the bleeding (though for pain or delirium they couldn't tell), doing his best to strike out with a broken appendage or, when one of them tried to at least stabilize his neck with a folded coat, bit down on his would-be-healer's arm and kept locked on until he lost the strength to continue.
He regained a bit of sense for those last few seconds. He saw that horrible beast's wicked eyes and gleaming teeth lurking in the edges of the firelight and he saw one of the hunters kneeling beside him and promising it would be quick and everything would be over in just a moment as he readied his handgun.

Also I am always, always, always on team "the dsmp should be critiqued just like you'd critique a tv show or any other media you love." They may not be sitting on a bunch of writing credits or university courses for writing, but they still engaged with it with the intent to make a job of it. They made money off doing this little RP and gained a following and influence that furthered their careers. Sometimes that happens with things you do for fun.
But I also am trying to sympathize that Tommy started telling a story that was probably out of his depth to tell at 16 for a massive audience. I knew (and know!) several teens who have shown via fanfiction and so on they can handle that pressure, but it's still tough, especially when I think Tommy is the type of writer who tells cool plot beats with the idea of what would be a fun scene or two and not of the long term implications until he's stuck with them.
I will always, always, always think back to that moment during one of Tommy's Exile streams where Wilbur, after he finished RPing for the day, flat out asked Tommy what was the goal of Exile and what story he was trying to push with it.
And Tommy seemed, for a moment, a little confused about why Wilbur was asking. I remember going "oh no" at the time and wondering how far they'd take it.
It's complicated. Exile was a great arc and meant a lot to so many people. The behavior of the server owner aside, it also probably the worst thing that could have happened to that server.
Everything afterwards became painted with the shadows of Exile -- even more than the story that involved one of the main players begging for someone to assist him in committing suicide. Mainly because no one on the server, including the players involved with it, were prepared for the lingering impact the story would have. Mainly because it involved the two biggest cc's on the server. Mainly because it dragged every CC, including many that were definitely not equipped to talk about it, into a storyline they didn't even really want to be in. And every single player, the moment they signed on, was judged by fandom for how they reacted to the story.
But they released it from the box and that's on them for not knowing how to put it back or unpack it fully. The amount of times the story suffered, or fandom argued and questionable messages were pushed to the front of all discussions, because the cc's involved just had zero sense of the gravity of it all is definitely something worthy of critique.

Reposting my fiansissel design so she appears on the new tags.
More info on her bellow the cut!
Sissel had always lived with her widowed father. Her mother died when she was still an infant from a decease, but she is always wearing her late mother’s scarf in her memory.
Sissel was a child when she first met Yomiel. They both attended the same school and she always felt bad for him, seeing how he was always so lonely and was always being bullied by other kids in school, so one day she defended him from the bullies who were tormenting him and introduced herself. Since Yomiel never had any friends, they quickly became very close friends and they spend the majority of their childhood together. But then she had to move to another country after her father got transferred for his job and they were forced to separate. She gave Yomiel her late mother’s red scarf as a way for him to remember her until she returns and Yomiel promised her he would give her the scarf back when they see each other again. (You can read the fanfic here! )
She came back years later, when she met Yomiel again, now as a teenager. Their friendship still remained strong, but it soon turned into something more as puberty hit them both and they started to see each other as more than just friends. Sissel started to find Yomiel’s clumsiness and awkwardness near her really cute and she finds his intelligence to be very attractive. She is really impressed at his great skills with computers and she often teases him about it. She also became quite popular in high school, attracting the eyes of many boys, but she only has eyes for her best friend, Yomiel. She often defended Yomiel whenever a bully mistreated him and she suports Yomiel with his family issues and is always there for him whenever he is feeling depressed about his family, serving as an emotional support for him.
Sissel knew of his troubles with his family and often tried to help him out. Even her father would help him sometimes, since Yomiel and his mother had finantial difficulties from time to time. The bullying he suffers in school didn’t help him with his mental health either.
Her friendship with Yomiel soon blossoms into a teenage love and they start to date as soon as they graduate from High School. She pursues a career as an art teacher while Yomiel studies to become a Systems Engineer.
In their adulthood, Yomiel asks her hand in marriage and she accepts, but her father gets really ill and dies shortly after, leaving Sissel in a state of deep depression, since she was very close to her father, leaving only Yomiel to comfort her.
In the bad timeline (the one in which Yomiel dies after being struck by the Temsik meteorite) she can’t stand to live in a world without the man she loved ever since she was a child and being in a state of depression after her father’s death and now Yomiel’s, she can’t bear it anymore and commits suicide to join her beloved in the afterlife, without knowing of Yomiel’s undead status.
In the good timeline (averted fate) she is upset to learn about Yomiel’s arrest, but she still waits for him because he is the man she always loved ever since she was a child, even going as far as to break ties with the rest of her family for disapproving their union (since Yomiel became a “criminal” for taking a little girl hostage, her family now hates Yomiel and disaprooves of their union)
But she’s still really vulnerable because Yomiel just got arrested, almost lost his life in a terrible accident and she’s still trying to deal with the loss of her father. But luckly, that’s when Alma kicks in. Alma tries to comfort Sissel when they met in the hospital and Jowd encourages his wife to get close to Sissel and comfort her in any way she can, since Jowd now knows of Sissel’s suicide thanks to Yomiel and he’s afraid of what might happen to Sissel if she’s left unsupervised. So Sissel and Alma become really close friends during the time Yomiel is in prison, since Alma is always there to show Sissel her support, knowing how much the woman is distressed about everything that’s going on in her life right now.
So, Sissel in general is a really caring and loving woman who loves too much. Her love for her father was so great that when she lost him, she only had Yomiel as a support and when she lost that support too in a short time period, she became so desperate that she didn’t see an alternative and chose to end her life and rejoin her beloved in the afterlife. She relies on people close to her for support and she loses that support, she is in complete despair. But luckly both Alma and Jowd supported her when Yomiel was in prison and helped her along. She also waited for Yomiel, just like when they were children and Yomiel kept his promisse to wait for her. Her love for him is that strong, though I still believe that if she knew the truth about that night, it could still stain their relationship a lot, since she knew him from childhood and never would expect him to do the things he did. (And that’s why I prefer her to never find out about it in the first place. Let her live in sweet oblivion!) ‘Cause like, I can’t really imagine a good outcome if she knew. She would probably refuse to accept it and well, when she is in the bottom of despair, we know what happens to her life so… yeah, I prefer her not knowing.
Since it is stated in canon that she killed herself for him, I always assumed that, for her to be in this kind of despair (and also for Yomiel to name his cat after her and be so desperate over her death) that their love started when they were both really young and has lasted for most of their lives. And also that she was already suffering from a previous trauma (like her father’s sudden passing) because for a person to think about suicide as their only option, they must be REALLY desperate and with no one to support her… You saw what happened.
