she understood it, she did. she was there to see how all that loss wounded dimitri. how it hurt. reaching over byleth took his hand in hers, raising it to her lips as she pressed a kiss along the back of it. “nothing is going to happen to me,” she said, her sea green eyes on his face, before she moved closer to him. her arms wrapped around, her cheek to his chest as she listened to the steady beat of his heart under his chest.

“we’re going to grow old together,” she said, “we’re going to live the rest of our lives together. and nothing is going to happen. not in this battle, not the next. and once this war is finally over, we will live those days in peace. and you will never worry, not for a second about anything happening to me. because our lives will be so boring we might have to sneak out and fight bandits just to break the routine.”

“ It was something spectacular, that’s for sure! ” Freaky always had explosive ways of entering a room, usually with a bolt of lightning.           the upcoming battle between the houses was rapidly approaching and the black eagles still hadn’t found the perfect strategy yet. thankfully, she was able to put aside her disdain for nobles just this once to try and see what information she could coax out of the blue lions’ leader. she spotted dimitri sitting at the table in the mess hall, dedue nowhere to be found, giving her the opportunity to slide across from him with batted eyelashes.

silence hung in the space between the couch where she sat and the chair where he did. you could hear the ticking of the clock on the wall and a quick glance told her they’d been sitting this way for fifteen minutes and still had forty-five to go.  she wonders, briefly, if this is how his appointments with her parents went -- no, there was certainly more noise than this.
