Notes on Sims 4 For Rent:
*This list is incomplete and a matter of my observations while trying to complete the good landlord aspiration.
Rent is paid every Wednesday morning at 5am except the first Wednesday after you bought the place or move in. Not sure if this applies every time you move in new tenants.
If you want to complete the good landlord aspiration, begin with 1 or 2 star rated units. Maintenance events spawn in low star rated units, but not in high star rated units in my limited experience.
Fines often fail, but they seem to fail more often when delivered in person. Slide it under the tenants door or mail it for better (?) results.
Piles of trash generated from repairing things in the shared space of a residential rental will always spawn in the played unit. Ick.
Generous sims will autonomously give away 250 simoleans at a time when you're not looking!
In the shared spaces of residential rental lots I've watched neighbors use: the painting easel (and the player can sell those paintings for profit, hot tip!), the game table, laundry washer and dryer (I placed the hamper in the same room as the washer and dryer as I am a lazy simmer), the pool, the crafting table, the telescope, gardening planters (they even plant on their own? One tenant gave me a whole bunch of Cottage Living mushrooms in the planter boxes), the grill, the pizza cooker, radios, and the mixology bar (maybe, I didn't witness it, but there were a number of spoiled drinks sitting on it for some reason and my sim didn't make them.)
Maintenance events send you TO the tenants unit. These events include a Trash Overload, Water Leak, and I've heard of a cursed book, but I haven't encountered it yet.
Emergency events appear to happen in YOUR unit or the shared space and include things like exploded appliances and hauntings.
You can trigger a tenant revolt by blaming the tenants. For what? It doesn't specify, but you can blame them!
I've heard you can trigger things like charity drives and pet adoption drives by complimenting the tenant (wrong word, its an option under the RENTAL tab), but I can't prove it from my own game play.
Last-
Apparently they did something odd with the new kettle and pressure cooker appliances. Even if you don't use them, the appliance itself thinks it is decaying over time. Have you encountered your sim doing the "Eww, stinky" animation and your space is clean? Probably that new kettle you bought. I ran smack into it. NateTheLoser has a mod out to make it better.

Was curious how many of the Sims 4 bugs on this list I've encountered… it's a lot
Part One because I guess this is too many bugs even for tumblr hahaha
Jumpy Animations/Sims teleport - since a long time ago but worse now Routing/Sit down issue on several interactions - love to watch my sims wander around like ants looking for somewhere to sit with a chair right in front of them. especially love when I tell me sim to go play a game at the card table in the same room, and instead they go outside, walk around the entire house, come back in and then sit at the table. guess they just felt like a walk first lol Music from other modes Plays During Live Mode - yup and usually overlapping. fix with restart but it often happens in CAS where you lose all your stuff if you quit… Lag for menu to show up when clicking on objects - especially the fridge/oven!!!! Sims keep moving after paused Sims do DU homework under laptops - not just DU tho I get this for anything that can be done at a table, including eating, and sometimes it's not even a portable laptop but a computer Sim won't accept queued commands/ Sims don't do actions - this was supposedly "console" but as a non-console player I know it happens to the rest of us too. also to most of us Lots with manipulated terrain look realistic/strange in world view - idk if this is a bug, i think probably that's just how it appears. but it is weird Fishing Identification for active Sim with no fishing skill - I think this one has been around since base game. Sims 4 really wants everyone to love fishing. I'll be like. mourning the death of Sim Grandpa. And all of a sudden 6-year-old Sim Grandson will "identify the Perch!" Multiple daily calls for sim to switch careers - CONSTANTLY. EVEN WITH PHONE ON SILENT MODE! Excessive use of Cross Stitch Basket - yep. I get it the worst with cross stitch, but I find it annoying that other hobbies which cost money like knitting and painting are autonomous as well. Either there should be a "practice" object which is the default and is free or this stuff shouldn't be autonomous. Food too tbh… I have tried playing rags to riches before, and one reason I gave up was just this - it was so hard to keep control of finances because sims have no concept of saving pennies lol Railings Clipping Through Walls - hate this so ugly Multi-story columns misaligned Foundation becomes see-through Sim Gets Fear of the Dark After Being Cured - all the fears and wants sucked. they're boring, curing then is boring, they have little impact except just ruining your sims day, and YEAH, they come back after being cured!! best to turn it off just like neighborhood stories Constantly dirty surroundings moodlet from Pressure Cooker and Kettle - I'm not 100% sure I've got this one, I will check the next time I play. However I've had multiple issues with these objects: sims constantly cooking with them when their queue is empty, and constant fires originating with them. Lately my sims was complaining her kitchen was dirty but I could not find anything dirty. She's a Neat sim, but even after having her clean everything, and then going into build mode and moving stuff to look for plates that might have gotten stuck under objects and are hard to see, the room still registered as dirty. I'm thinking it was the pressure cooker or kettle, or maybe even pizza oven which she also has Upgraded beds give two contradictory moodlets - yup spend hours upgrading your bed and the sims like "what a bad sleep!" Sims on home lot don't take care of needs when active sims away - yeah two sims in my house recently almost starved bc of this NPCs take food ordered by active Sim - yup! again ruining my rages to riches haha No evolve option (ready to evolve) - yes and yes I've checked that the plants are in season. Also having major issues with other gardening things especially on community lots Very High Household Bills While On Vacation Campfire causes too many fires - really frustrating for me bc I use the campfire a lot. I absolutely love camping gameplay but between constant fires and thunderstorms where you're 100% guaranteed to get electrocuted (9_9) it really sucks

A detailed guide to cook an elaborate Tamil Vegetarian Menu
How to cook a Tamil Vegetarian Menu in 2 hours – includes entire step by step process of the meal I cooked and an alternate menu plan. The meal is naturally gluten free and vegan if you avoid the raita and use of ghee.
My publisher (now, also a friend) was coming over for dinner last night. I asked her if she would prefer a small plates kinda dinner, which is my jam these days, or a traditional Tamil vegetarian meal. She opted for the latter.
I love showcasing my  cuisine for anyone who is half interested. So I carefully worked out a menu featuring some favourites and a couple of new creations. Here’s the menu I cooked for 4 people.
Tamil Vegetarian Menu
Rice / Millets
Onion Sambar (with freshly ground masala)
Tomato Pineapple Rasam
Curry leaf powder (Karuveppala podi)
Bottle gourd chutney (Dudhi thogayal)
Potato curry (Urulai Podimaas)
Instant green mango pickle
Carrot Cucumber Yogurt (Thayir Pachidi)
Banana Chips
This Tamil Vegetarian menu is easy to prep ahead for, with fairly basic ingredients. It showcases the cuisine well with a variety of dishes, using different vegetables, flavours and techniques. I haven’t included a dessert here due to a shortage of time and also because we had got some Theobroma brownies 🙂 But any payasam (Tamil style kheer) would be a good fit in this menu.
The thogayal, podi and pickle can also be made on the previous day, even though the instant mango pickle just takes two minutes in the microwave.
I also pressure cook the tomato-pineapple mix and the potatoes a few hours ahead so that it can cool completely before handling and pureeing. I hate to burn my hands while removing the peels of tomatoes and potatoes.
While I did not cook everything at one go, this entire meal can be put together with around 2 hours of work, as long as you use a pressure cooker.
Entire list of ingredients for cooking this Tamil Vegetarian Menu
serves 4
PANTRY
1 cup rice
1 cup foxtail millet
3/4 cup tur dal
vegetable oil
coconut oil
ghee
11-12 dried red chillies
2 tbsp coriander seeds
2-3 tsp fenugreek seeds
2-3 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp black pepper corns
3 tsp cumin seeds
3-4 tsp powdered jaggery
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/3 cup urad dal
2 tbsp chana dal
1 tsp tur dal
salt
VEGETABLES
5 medium potatoes
20-25 sprigs curry leaves
3-4 green chillies
1” piece ginger
4 large onions
4 large tomatoes
200 grams pineapple
1 small bottle gourd
1 green mango
1 medium carrot
1 medium cucumber
1 small bunch coriander leaves
1 lemon
DAIRY +OTHERS
1.5 cups yogurt
1/3 cup grated fresh coconut (chutney + potato curry)
3 tbsp desiccated coconut (sambar)
Watch some of these videos to help you with the cooking:
How to make curry leaf powder
How to make arachuvitta sambar (sambar with freshly ground spices)
How to make Potato Podimaas
Batch Processing
Batch processing the tasks is the fastest way to cook any elaborate menu. I have batched up all the pressure cooking, masala preparation, vegetable prep and final tadka steps together. This makes a lot more sense can cooking recipe after recipe, which takes way longer time.
PRESSURE COOKING
 3/4 cup toor dal + 2 cups water + 1/2 tsp turmeric
4 large tomatoes + 1 cup pineapple chunks + 1 cup water
 3 – 5 medium potatoes
Rice and millets are best cooked just before serving –go to the last step.
TAMARIND
Soak 2 tbsp tamarind flakes in 1 cup boiling hot water for 30 minutes. Extract all the pulp and discard the tamarind flakes after squeezing well. You can also use 2 tsp ready tamarind paste, but the flavour from using freshly extracted puree makes it worth it.
VEGETABLE PREP
Potato curry: Peel and grate or crumble the boiled potatoes.
Raita: Peel the veg. Grate carrot and finely dice the cucumber for raita.
Pickle: Chop one green mango into juliennes or small cubes.
Chutney: Peel and thinly slice a tender bottle gourd (small size~200 grams). Saute this in 1 tsp oil for 5-6 minutes until almost tender.
Sambar: Peel 4 large onions. Cut into half and then into thick slices. In a pan, heat 2-3 tsp oil, fry 1 tsp mustard seeds, 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds and add the chopped onion to this. Saute on medium-low flame, keep covered and cook for 10-15 minutes until onion is softened. Do not try to cut time on this step as the sambar flavour depends entirely on how well the onions are cooked. To this, add the tamarind extract and bring to a simmer.
MASALAS  / MIXER / BLENDER
Sambar: 4-5 dried red chillies, 2 tbsp coriander seeds, 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds, 1 tbsp chana dal, 3 tbsp desiccated or fresh grated coconut – all dry roasted until aromatic (7-8 minutes on medium flame). Grind to a fine powder. Mix this in 1/2 cup water and add it to the pan with the onions and tamarind puree.
Podi: Dry roast washed and dried curry leaves until they turn crisp ~Around 5-7 minutes on medium flame. Remove and cool. Dry roast 3 dried red chillies and 1/4 cup urad dal until dal is golden brown. Grind all of it together to a coarse powder along with some salt. Store in airtight container.
Rasam podi: Dry roast 1 tsp tur dal, 1.5 tsp cumin seeds and 1/2 tsp black pepper corns until the dal turns golden brown. Remove, cool and grind to a fine powder.
Rasam: Remove peels from cooked tomatoes and discard. Grind the cooked tomato-pineapple mix into a fine puree. Pass through a sieve. Mix in the prepared rasam powder, salt and 1-2 tsp powdered jaggery and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
Thogayal / chutney: In 1/2 tsp oil, fry 3 dried red chillies, 2 flakes tamarind, 2-3 tsp urad dal until dal is golden brown. Grind this along with sautéed bottle gourd and 1/4 cup grated coconut + salt to a coarse paste. Thogayal is ready.
FINAL STEPS
Sambar: add the cooked dal to the onion-tamarind-sambar paste mix in the pan. Bring to a simmer, adding some water to thin down if required. Check for salt and adjust. Heat 2 tsp oil in pan. Fry curry leaves, mustard seeds and a pinch of asafoetida and transfer to the pan. Keep covered until ready to serve.
Rasam: heat 1 tsp ghee. Fry 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, few curry leaves and transfer to the rasam. Garnish with finely chopped coriander.
Potato curry: Heat 1 tbsp coconut oil. Fry 2-3 finely chopped green chillies, curry leaves, 1 tsp grated ginger, 1 tsp urad dal, 1 tsp chana dal until the dal turns golden brown. Add grated potatoes, salt, juice of 1 lemon, 2-3 tbsp grated coconut and finely chopped coriander. Toss gently to combine it all together.
Pickle: in a microwave safe bowl, mix chopped green mango, 2 tsp pickle masala (you get this in supermarkets), 2 tsp powdered jaggery and microwave for a total of 3 minutes. Give the pickle a stir after every 1 minute mark so that it cooks evenly and is coated with the sweet-spice mix.
Raita: Mix cucumber and carrot in 1.5 cups whisked yogurt with salt. Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan. Fry 1/4 tsp mustard seeds, curry leaves and 1 tsp urad dal until dal is golden brown. Transfer over raita. Garnish with finely chopped cucumber.
RICE AND MILLETS
Lastly, cook the rice and millets. Wash the grains separately, combine with twice the water and cook for 5-6 minutes on sim after the first whistle. Serve hot with all the above sides.
Serve papads or store bought banana chips with the meal.
Another Tamil Vegetarian menu which can be prepared similarly
Some more tips when you cook an elaborate meal:
Use the pressure cooker as much as possible
Keep a big bowl to collect all the peels and vegetable waste which can be discarded in the bin at one go.
Clean as you go, returning bottles and ingredients back to the place, so that the final clean up job becomes easier.
Try and use the same pan for the tasks, one after the other. For example, I use the same small pan to prepare tadka for each of the dishes.
When using the mixer, grind all the dry mixes first, so you can wipe it with a kitchen paper and move on to the next task. Reserve the wet grinding for the last, as you can see in my task detailing above.
Prepare tadka / garnishing of all dishes at the end just before serving.

Pearl Millet Recipes | Savoury Pearl Millet Porridge | Bajra Khichdi
This pearl millet recipe needs overnight prep in terms of soaking. That apart, this gluten free grain combined with mung dal and vegetables, makes a wholesome healthy meal. It is also an excellent recipe for diabetics.
Want to add more whole grains in your diet for their excellent health benefits?
This is one grain (high fibre, high protein, gluten free) that you must consider adding to your pantry.
Read on to find out how to use it in your day to day cooking and the best way to cook it.
Pearl Millet in Indian languages
Tamil – Kambu
Hindi / Bengali / Odia / Punjabi – Bajra
Kannada – Sajje
Gujarati / Marathi – Bajri
Telugu – Sajja
Pearl Millet or whole bajra is an excellent whole grain to stock up in the kitchen. A lot of cooks get discouraged by the very long cooking time, labelling it difficult to cook.
It is best to soak any whole grain before proceeding to cook with it. This applies to pearl millet too.
Soaking reduces the anti-nutrient ‘phytic acid’ that is present in the outer cover of the grains. Soaking, sprouting or fermenting are the three techniques that must be used with whole grains to ensure that maximum nutrients are absorbed by the body.
Eating Pearl Millet – for Diabetics and Weight Loss
Pearl Millet is an excellent grain for diabetics due to its high fibre content. The carbohydrates get converted into glucose and released into the blood stream in a more gradual manner, preventing any spikes in blood sugar.
The fibre also gives a sense of fullness for a longer period after a meal with a relatively smaller portion of food making it a very good option for those attempting to lose weight.
How to cook pearl millet or bajra
A tough grain like pearl millet does good with a long soaking time – a minimum of 12 hours.
Drain the water and pressure cook with 3-4 times the water for at least 15-20 mins (after full pressure / whistle).
Cooker larger quantities at one time and refrigerate to use in other recipes to save on time and effort.
Pearl millet flour / bajra atta is used in some cuisines in India to prepare flatbreads – Gujarat / Rajasthan mainly, because of the arid climate that favours growth of this millet. Bajra is traditionally eaten in the winters because it is seen as a ‘warming food’ and not advocated for the summer diet.
I feel that the grain offers much more flavour and satiety than the flour, not to mention the nutritional benefits you get from eating the whole grain.

One Pot Meal
Pearl millet (bajra) khichdi recipe prepared with moong dal and vegetables is almost like a risotto in texture. You cannot overcook pearl millet as it retains its texture very well, despite cooking for a long time. Do not mistake the chewy texture for uncooked/improperly cooked millet. When adding vegetables to the khichdi, cut into large chunks because of the overall increased cooking time.
Once you have soaked the millets for 12 hours, this makes an easy weeknight dinner. The khichdi cooks in the pressure cooker while you go about other chores. A plate of hot khichdi with your favourite accompaniments makes a comforting meal like no other on a nippy evening.

Equipment / Ingredients needed to make Bajra Khichdi
Print Recipe
Bajra Khichdi | Pearl Millet Porridge Yum
Instructions
To prepare the pearl millet khichdi / bajra khichdi, soak the millet for at least 12 hours in water. This step is mandatory.
Wash moong dal. Drain and keep aside. Drain water from the millet just before preparing the khichdi.
Heat ghee in a pressure pan (~3-5 Litre capacity). Fry cumin seeds, garlic, chillies and vegetables for a minute.
Add the drained millet and moong dal along with all the dried spices and salt.
Mix 4.5 cups water into this and bring to a boil.
Lock the cooker lid with the pressure weight plugged in.
After 3 whistles, reduce flame to sim and cook for 15-20 minutes. Because of this long cooking on slow flame, it is important to add more than adequate water to the khichdi otherwise it will burn and stick to the bottom of the cooker. Beginner cooks can also transfer the entire mix with the water into another vessel that fits inside the cooker. Keep 1.5 inches of water in the bottom of the cooker. Mix in 4 cups water to the millet-dal-veg mix in the vessel and cook similarly, or possibly for 5 minutes longer on sim (20 mins after 3 whistles).
Once the pressure subsides, open cooker and stir in the finely chopped spinach into the khichdi. Keep covered for 5-10 minutes so the spinach cooks in the residual heat.
You will know that the pearl millet is cooked on tasting or if the grains have broken open.
Serve this hot along with roasted papads and sliced cucumber. Pickles and yogurt optional.
Recipe Notes
Prepare the same khichdi using any other whole grain like foxtail millet, brown rice or quinoa.
Use any seasonal vegetables like beans, sweet potatoes, green peas, pumpkin and a mix of any seasonal green leafy vegetables.
