So, while studying for my final, I went into the Irish rabbit hole of content on YouTube. Started with Jacksepticeye, which led to me branching out to the other Irish Lads, which somehow led to Facts/the TRY Channel. From there, I started watching Graham Norton clips, but specifically the ones with Irish guests. And then I started watching Irish shows like the Late Late Show and Ireland’s version of Dragon’s Den, which led to me looking up Irish movies (there was the Jadotville movie on Netflix and this weird comedy horror one about people summoning the devil). And then I watched a documentary about the Irish military.
I’ve consumed so much Irish content these past few days (actually, could be weeks by now) that when I was talking to my sister and her boyfriend, I subconsciously attempted to do an Irish accent. Specifically, the accent that Call Me Kevin has, you know since Ireland has several different accents. I swear, I didn’t do that on purpose lol. The only explanation I can think of is that, when you’re learning a new language, you have to really immerse yourself in that language in order to pick it up. To a lesser extent, I’ve been immersing myself in so much Irish content that it’s starting to affect my brain.

What other things can you say about InRange and Forgotten Weapons that are recent
Lessee... Karl at InRange has been collabing with more people on a variety of topics, like Annette Evans specializing in women's self-defense, for example. He was a guest on Behind the Bastards for the Hiram Maxim episodes, he had a discussion video with Atun-Shei about John Brown, and he and SinistralRifleman are still working on Brutality stuff. I don't know much of anything about his personal life, and frankly do not care. If that's relevant to anyone, I think it's worth remembering that the reason Brownells dropped him and Ian parted ways with him was because he committed the crime of saying trans people are people with rights on arfcom, not because he does things you might consider cringe on his own time.
I think Ian has realized that he might've fucked up by not standing by his onetime friend, as his channel has kinda struggled for new content and he's started trying to create his own Brutality spin-offs and rip-offs. There are only so many Forgotten Weapons worth talking about, after all, and so a lot of his videos lately have been more like Modern Garbage, stuff that was "forgotten" not because it was old, but because it sucked and/or had no market niche like the Coonan and COP .357. The VHS-2/Springfield Hellion getting a new variant is just bog standard "hey guys new version of a gun" video that TFBTV handles. It'd explain part of why he's copyright striking old videos with InRange, if he can publish new videos about the same topics, that'll keep him afloat. The Royal Armouries have kinda started to eat his lunch, not only having constant access to all kinds of old and interesting firearms, but also regularly talking about them in a way relevant to a wider audience by comparing them to their video game representation. They're doing some collaboration videos now, but we'll see how long that lasts if they catch a whiff of that Leviathan Group stink on him.
Also it was a little embarrassing when he tried to fact-check Siege of Jadotville and the Chieftain made a response video that rightly pointed out that sometimes, troops just do things that don't actually make sense because they believe they make sense.

Ik I’m currently on an Irish language roll, but I keep thinking about the American man who told me I didn’t have an Irish accent and now I’m pissed off
So
1. Irish names such as Aisling, Roisín, Ciarán, Ruairí etc, are not “weird names”. They are perfectly pronounceable to us, and they’re not “weird English” they are a different language. Making videos where you try and fail to pronounce our names and laugh about it, isn’t funny it’s just prejudiced. Shut up.
2. We do not all sound like Jamie Dornan in the Siege of Jadotville. Side note king, you’re literally Northern Irish, where did that accent come from???? There are different accents across the island, mine is a Limerick accent, my mom’s is an Offaly accent, my dad’s uncles have Wexford accents etc. we’re all Irish. Leave us alone.
3. Dublin is not the only city in Ireland. Moving on.
4. We have Wifi. I’m even using it to type this out. We are not stuck in the 1700s, we have technology. Even the rural areas that do have cottages and bungalows etc, also have TVs and electricity.
5. Most importantly, we are not British. We are not part of the United Kingdom, except for Northern Ireland which was forcibly taken over by the British. Stop calling us English, and do not refer to us as Brits.
6. The Famine was a genocide. You call us stupid for relying on one crop only, I tell you that English landlords sold everything else and all the poor could do was plant potatoes and hope they wouldn’t rot. The English continued to sell our food in the middle of the Famine. The man they put in charge of Famine Relief, Charles Trevalayn, decided that if he helped us we would become lazy. So he made people build “Famine Roads”, roads that went nowhere, for a pittance when they were already half starved. The genetic effects of the Famine carried on too, studies have found that Irish people had higher rates of mental health issues for one hundred and fifty years after the Famine. We fucking remember.
7. Our language was banned. I am fortunate enough that my parents sent me to an all-Irish school and that I’m fluent, whereas they went to English speaking schools and don’t have much Irish now. But, is fearr Gaeilge briste ná Bearla cliste. The British tried to kill Irish and they did not succeed. We’re still here and we still speak.
Stereotypes about Ireland are generally wrong, and people could stand to learn a lot more about us and our history before they go around making “jokes”. You’re not funny.

Sequential Practice - Week 7: Puppet Project - Launch and Sketches
This week I was given more details on the puppet project, and my task was to create concept sketches of my ow puppet ready for building next week. We were asked to base our puppet characters on people in our environment or within our lives, and I decided to base mine on my late grandad, who was a former Irish army soldier and UN peacekeeper in the Congo during the Siege of Jadotville in 1961. I drew a couple of preliminary sketches of a ¾ view and side view of the character, deciding that I wanted my puppet to be tall and slim like my late granddad, wearing a UN peacekeeper captain uniform. My puppet was to be roughly 20cm tall. This week, I was also paired with an interior design student, who will be tasked with designing a set in scale with the puppet. We decided the set would take place in a makeshift army tent in the congo, with ammo boxes, a table, a map, etc.

Best Movies you can find on NETFLIX
Tumblr media
Yesterday, my friend texted me saying that he was struggling to find a good movie on Netflix. He always seems to choose the worst ones, and he’s the type of guy who will end up watching random episodes of Friends instead LOL.
I know how hard it is to find a movie that can help you get out of that stress from working hours. So whenever he asks me to recommend movies, I always show up faster than his gf on the text. Saying you can pick anyone from this top 5.
Here are some of the movies that are the best and should be on your weekend watch list too.
Movies
Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016): I love this movie so much. It’s just a perfect combination of funny, sweet, and serious.
Annihilation(2017): As I watched it, I liked it, but after a while, I thought about it a lot and ended up liking it more.
The Siege of Jadotville(2016): Great movie. Way better than I expected.
Beasts of No Nation (2015): This is one of those movies where I only want to watch it once, but WOW. It’s not only incredibly well performed, but it is also one of the most beautiful movies visually that I’ve ever seen.
Wheelman (2017): it was a great watch. Grillo has such a cool on-screen presence, his looks fit the character really well I feel.
