a character fainting in the middle of being lectured by their captain for something they did wrong, both worrying them and explaining why they'd made the mistake in the first place, is soooooo good

No but someone shivering in a room that's actually pretty warm and their friend/date/crush noticing, frowning, then putting a hand on their forehead without a word has just moved into my head lately and I hope it stays forever.

I’ve been thinking a lot about people being sick at formal events where they’re all dressed up
Imagine someone dizzy and feverish struggling to keep their balance in heels. Someone who painstakingly applied makeup for it to only be gradually smeared and sweated off throughout the evening.
While people are mingling, everywhere they turn there is someone offering another glass of champagne, or an hors d’œuvre, and despite not being hungry or their stomach feeling a little uneasy, they’re too polite to decline. They keep drinking and eating, feeling worse as the night goes on, and all of this is before what is likely an elaborate and rich gourmet banquet.
Everyone is uptight and showing the best sides of themselves so there is no room to display their discomfort, there is no chance to escape smalltalk that is so mind numbing each word seems to add weight to their body which is feeling increasingly like it is made of lead.
By the time they excuse themselves, sure that they’re going to be sick, they’re too dizzy and unsteady to make their way to the bathroom quickly enough, particularly if they’re wearing heels. They end up throwing up on themselves, maybe getting it in their hair, and in their feverish state this is what really sets them off. They’re upset, inconsolable, tears beginning to fall because “this thing is dry clean only” whether it be a dress or a suit, and in their mild delirium this becomes their main misdirected concern.
I don’t know what it is about it, but that is what I’m vibing with rn

ughh thinking about one of my favorite emeto tropes 😭😭
tw for emeto… obviously
a sickee at a large gathering. maybe it’s a dinner with higher ups and coworkers, a night out with friends, high school reunion? doesn’t matter
they’ve been feeling off all day. a stomach that’s not quite nauseous but definitely feeling off. unnaturally shaky, sweating despite having chills. all the fun stuff
it’s an event they’ve been looking forward to for a while, so they just brush it off. maybe it’s nerves? maybe they just need something to eat? they are sure it will go away.
cut to the event, and they’re feeling even worse by the minute. their stomach is churning, their vision is foggy, and everything feels so wrong. they force down food, too heavy for their queasy belly, and even a few drinks. obviously these just make things more turbulent.
does someone find them and whisk them away? a friend? their boss? an old flame? their crush? are they taken away from the crowd and doted on? or do they get violently ill in front of everyone, leading to embarrassment.
(personally i’m a big sucker for the comfort aspect, but either is good!!!)

thinking abt,,,,,,,,Whumpee who has been very sick for days and days now, weak and wrapped up in blankets on the couch, doing pretty much nothing but nap and have food and take nice baths and cuddle with Caretaker, sometimes watch a show or a movie, but they really don't have the energy for anything else. and sure, they're being well taken care of, and they're comfortable and safe, but they're really sad because they miss doing their favorite activities...their hands are too shaky to do crafts/art that they like or to play their favorite board games, they're too weak to go for a walk/play sports or outside games/go hang at the library or cafe or museum, maybe they can't even enjoy reading/writing/video games/anything because looking at a screen or reading words makes their headache flare up too much. likewise with their favorite music. and they're just so frustrated and sad..........
bonus: Caretaker trying to find a way to help them do their thing. maybe Whumpee has the mental energy for a board game but physically is too shaky and weak, so when Caretaker finds out how sad they are, they offer to just move pieces/play cards/etc for them. maybe they can't go outside but Caretaker sets up a cozy nook in the backyard/on the balcony (porch swing???????????? sick Whumpee snuggled up on porch swing with pillows and blankets and everything?????????????) so they can be taken care of but also have some fresh air and enjoy the outdoors. they get a headache from reading but if Caretaker reads to them slowly and quietly it makes them feel better. or Caretaker just talking to them about their creative projects that they're excited about that have been put on hold, asking them what their next big art piece is going to be of and letting them describe it in enthusiastic, sniffly detail for as long as they want, or asking them about their progress on that cardigan theyre knitting, or talking out plot things theyre figuring out in their writing. mmmmmm
they'd still be a little sad and frustrated and disappointed that they're too weak to do what they want to do but at least Caretaker is doing their best to give them something to make them happy :')))))

Because disastrously sick men wearing suits is one of my favorite things, and stranger caretakers is another one of my favorite things, have this scenario:
Character A is attending a meeting for a department on a different floor of the building he works in. It’s a sizable company, so it’s not possible to know everyone. Once the meeting is over/breaks for lunch, A stops in one of the bathrooms to take a piss, wash his hands, freshen up a bit. The bathroom is silent and A is positive he’s the only one there as he relieves himself and then washes his hands and messes with his hair in the mirror.
Then there’s an absolutely ear-splitting retch, the kind that sounds like it’s been pulled right out of the pit of your guts and grates your throat in a way that’s sure to make it sore later. A freezes, staring at himself in the mirror for a minute as he tries to decide what to do.
Then there’s a second equally-rough retch, a heavy splattering of liquid against liquid, and a very sick-sounding belch. A turns around to find that the farthest stall door is shut, and when he steps closer he can see the soles of dress shoes and the ankles of gray slacks of whoever’s kneeling on the floor.
“Are you...alright?” A asks hesitantly. He has no idea who it is that’s hurling--it could be anyone from the meeting he was just in, or it could be someone from elsewhere on the floor or the building.
There’s a burp and a short splash in response, and then Character B clears his throat. “Fine. Got it handled.”
The terse tone of his voice is ruined by how hoarse and thready it is, underscored by panting breaths and a grating gag. A doesn’t recognize the voice. He’s hovering near the stall, not quite sure if he should say anything else, when there’s the sound of B blowing his nose and the toilet flushing, and then the door swings open and they come face to face with one another.
A and B both recognize each other just from seeing one another around the building during work, but they don’t know each other’s names. A can’t help wincing, because B looks terrible. There’s a ring of sweat around the collar of his dress shirt, and his tie and jacket are both askew. His face is ashen pale, covered in a clammy sheen, and his eyes are the glossy bright of a fever. He’s glaring at A like his life depends on it, but it’s undermined by his visible trembling.
“Can I help you?” B asks with a voice that sounds totally wrecked by stomach acid.
A feels his ears go red, but his voice gets caught for a minute, taken aback by B’s surly attitude. “You sound rough. I just wanted to make sure you weren’t going to keel over.”
“I don’t know you,” B says shortly, heading for the sinks and washing his hands as if nothing’s happened. “The concern is appreciated, but not necessary.”
A can’t help but scoff at that. B somehow has gotten even paler, holding onto the sides of the sink with both hands and bowing his head.
“You must be fun to work with if you have this much of a stick up your ass even when sick,” A comments. “I was just trying-”
A cuts himself off with a yelp, because B’s knees seem to buckle. A grabs him under the shoulders, but B’s head lolls and to A’s utter horror and dismay, he passes out completely and his dead weight nearly topples them both to the floor.
B’s out for less than a minute, coming around with a groan, head rolling against A’s shoulder. He bats A’s hands away, and they scowl at each other.
Does A drive B home himself, after finding out from his boss where he lives? Does he take B back to his own office, or to A’s to rest a little? Does B give up the attitude for long enough to let A be helpful?
I do also like thinking about this scenario in a scat or both ends scenario, but I’m not sure what the climate is on that so decided to just do the emeto for now XDD
(PS. If you write something using this, tag me not even for credit but just because I’d be dying to read it XD.)

No Time To Rest
When a sick character at work mumbles "think I need to go lie down for a minute," almost under their breath, their face pale and their breath coming too short as their migraine starts to build, unsuccessfully trying to sneak away from the main group to get their health situation under control away from watchful eyes...
But this is the wrong time to sneak off. Everyone needs to talk to them about something, and no one can wait until later or put it in an email. Question after question and request after request gets shot at them, each one increasing the dull pounding in their brain.
Finally, the sick character resorts to faking a bathroom break, then tucking themselves into a supply closet or hiding under a desk in an unused office, trying to find a spot where the light won't hit against the back of their eyelids, fumbling with the timer on their phone, hoping to get a precious 10 or 15 minutes alone with their eyes closed before returning to the insanity.
Their friend or their co-worker finds them there an hour later, collapsed in a muddled heap on the floor, their face sweaty and red and their temperature sky high, moaning weakly when they try to move them.
"You look terrible - you could have said something if you were feeling this badly! Shh, don't, no, don't try to talk yet. Let's just get you someplace a little more comfortable first, shall we?"

Imagine, if you will, Gameshow hurt/comfort™
After months of submitting video auditions, Character A finally is accepted to be on one of their favorite game shows. They tell their whole family when they'll be on, choose the perfect outfit, and even perfect their "TV smile." 😁 Everything's going perfectly. Until it isn't.
On the morning they're scheduled to be on the game show, Character A wakes up feeling like they're in the jaws of death itself.
But they can't just skip the show- they've been dreaming of being on it since they were a kid! So they drag themself out of bed, get ready, and head to the studio where the show is held.
Somehow, everything is even worse when they actually are on TV. The spotlights are hot and blindingly bright, the music and live audience is blaring, and Character A is pretty sure people can see them sweating through their TV screens. During commercial breaks, Character A huddles backstage to cough or get a drink of water in an attempt to keep their voice in good condition (it doesn't work). The host of the show seems confused and a little concerned that Character A isn't at all like in their audition videos, where they were peppy, enthusiastic, and dare they say, charming.
Towards the end of the show, the host finally manages to escape their hair and makeup crew to check on Character A, who is in tears and on the verge of collapsing. The host, understandably alarmed, goes to the show's producers and insists that they end the show early so that Character A can go home or possibly to a doctor.
Hours later, Character A wakes up in their own home, having been taken by the show's paramedics to a nearby urgent care and then to their house with a bag of meds and some supplies.
A few days later, the show's host calls Character A personally to check on them and make sure they're okay, and invites them to come back on the show for the next season as their personal guest.

a character who doesn't know they're about to pass out becaue they've never done it before. rather than saying "I feel faint" or something, they say "I feel a little weird." they only sit because another character points out that they look pale and tells them to sit or lie down.

this isn’t related to any of ur events going on i just had a thought i wanted to share. i’m meshing hunger and sickfic stuff but-
a college student who’s really struggling to pay back their loans and debt while also trying to provide for themselves, having only maruchan ramen for one too many meals. they feel awfully sick after finishing their dinner, but they force themselves to swallow it all because they just know they need to feed themselves, even if the food isn’t good.
they start to feel sick- really sick, and their roommate notices, coming over and trying to help them calm them and their body down.
to no avail, though. after ten minutes of trying to keep the rising acid away from their mouth they stumble to the bathroom to vomit up those damn cup noodles, their roommate holding back their hair and offering comfort.
they feel awful in the moment, their body wanting some kind of food that will give them the nutrients they need and deserve, but they’re just too broke.
and their roommate just tries to sadly comfort them while they cry.
Please I love this scenario SO MUCH??? I already love it when characters get so hungry they start to feel nauseous, but this is just even more golden.
They're hungry, they're tired, they're stressed, they're overworked, and as if all of that isn't bad enough already, now they're feeling sick on top of everything. They're just crying on the bathroom floor, everything so overwhelming.
Aaaaaaa I love this so much

if I talked about this before, I don’t care I’m talking about it again
someone gently reaching out to feel someone’s forehead for a fever, eliciting a sharp gasp from both the sick person and the caretaker alike.
“holy shit, you’re burning up” they exclaim in concern, while the sickie is likely swatting away their hand, which feels frigid against their searing skin.
“are you sure you don’t just have hypothermia? your hand is freezing” it’s a weak attempt at humour, but the fever has delirium beginning to creep in and there’s an unmistakable trace of sincerity in the sickie’s voice as they make this remark
of course, the hand of the caretaker is a normal temperature, but the contrast between it and the burning fever is jarring and even painful to the poor, sick, person, who doesn’t seem to fully grasp the severity of their own condition

Imagine a sickie who's *so* busy at their fast paced job that they don't register how sick they are. They get their first lull in work and the nausea hits them like a truck and their stomach only gives them a few seconds as a warning, so they throw up in their hands as they're rushing to the bathroom

Thatcher caretaker is so dear to me. Like. Adam caretaker is great because you can make him go through a character arc, but Thatcher caretaker is so endearing because he lives off of cigarette smoke and french fries but I’d like to think he’s eerily good at taking care of people. He’s so soggy and wet and pathetic but he’s also a dad. Bonus points of its joint Thatcher and Adam caretaking w/ sickee Jonah. Resident white man teaches resident white boy how to be a good person when the guy he’s trying to pretend he doesn’t care about gets sick…

Can't stop thinking about a 1800s scenario where there's a big ball and everyone is dressed up in fancy suits and dresses. A is feeling under the weather, but is being forced to attend by their family. When B, a bachelor everyone is swooning over, asks A to dance, A's siblings pushes them forward to accept against A's objection.
They start dancing, and A apologizes for being slow/clumsy, but doesn't explain that they're not feeling well. When they sneeze two or three times to the side, doing their very best to avoid spraying their partner while dancing, B frowns and quips something like "I'm starting to believe that flush on your cheeks is not caused by my presence." B guides A towards the side while everyone keeps dancing, and offers them their handkerchief, then places their loose hand on A's cheek to check for a fever.
They tsk when they feel how warm A is, and insist that they go back to bed to rest.
