Who doesn't love a good Shuttlebay?
Almost always bigger on the inside, they fit whatever the plot needs💕
Tumblr media
Here's where it all started, the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 from the OG Star Trek series.
Tumblr media
Here's the 1701-A from Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Insanely enough, the set was originally the palace from Coming to America. This is the only time a full size shuttlebay has been a practical set.
Tumblr media
The Next Gen Enterprise-D had an enormous main shuttlebay designed. Enormous and majestic and WAY too expensive to depict, so we only ever saw little secondary bays in the neck of the ship like this one. The set was also used as every cargo bay ever needed.
Tumblr media
U.S.S. Defiant NX-74205
This shuttlebay is extra magical, since it didn't exist until it was suddenly needed for an episode. As you can see, it went from a having a protruding tractor beam emitter to a recessed set of doors in the space of a few episodes.
Tumblr media
U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656
This shuttlebay never looked the same twice and changed size to fit whatever was needed at the time. Here it barely fits the Delta Flyer but at other times it holds the Delta Flyer and other ships with room to spare and somehow one time Neelix's ship (not shuttle, ship!) was revealed to just be sitting in storage since the pilot episode
Tumblr media
U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 (AOS)
The Kelvin Timeline movie Enterprise featured the King of shuttlebays. Requiring a massive size cheat to fit inside (this Enterprise is supposed to be 725 meters long, but to fit the shuttlebay it needs to be 1200 meters), it features more than a dozen shuttles in racks along the walls. Tons of high up walkways for crew to fall from and enourmous support beams that are seemingly designed to make landing as hazardous as possible
Tumblr media
The U.S.S. Discovery NCC-1031 has an enourmous shuttlebay, and the doors get jammed open after the first season so we always get to see inside.
Tumblr media
U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 (SNW)
Nice and roomy, but not roomy enough for the hundred or so drones they launched at the end of Discovery season 2

Voyager Shuttlebay blueprint
The archive had a scan of the Voyager Shuttlebay, but it was small, grainy and the numbers were not very distinct.
Using photos of the blueprint, I've annotated the scan:

To ensure it was distinct from the grey background, numbers are in orange, and text is in green.

As a lower decker, Ensign Eaurp Guz doesn't have a lot of space for a model railroad. Arguably she could fit like a shelf layout precariously above her tub-bunk, but that's where she keeps some of her model spaceships. So instead, she builds larger scale model engines and runs them on the holodeck. Here's a roughly G gauge model of a Slopspit & Southern Class 80 "Easy"-type 2-6-0 steam engine with decorative smoke baffles. Like most of her models it's built with function in mind, so it's live steam.
Guz's model rockets and spacecrafts are either run in the holodeck, or in certain conditions on shoreleave or staged out of the shuttlebay on actual spaceflights. For example, the Orion Nuclear Pulse Rocket from Guzcomic was planned to make a round trip between Douglas Station and the planet's moon, DbII before it went and exploded itself, and the lunar lander she'd built for the Apollo 11 anniversary was going to actually land on the Moon.
When she can fully recover her models, she keeps them in storage and rotates them in the display above her tub-bunk.
Guz also has plans for a proper model railroad which would replicate a colliery circa 2350 with a late example of a revenue-earning steam locomotive in approximately HO-ish gauge, but it would require having her own quarters.
She's also kicking around plans to make a 1:4800 scale layout which would fit on a microscope slide.

The second half of a recent starship design commission, the Illustrious-class carrier, a behemoth of a ship with far too many shuttlebays and a twin-bridge layout inspired by Star Wars' Venator-class, with one bridge for ship command and the other for air-wing command.

fic: a battuta
It’s deep into gamma; he hardly saw a soul on his trek up from the shuttlebay. Jim must have forgotten to order the lights off when he headed to bed.
In which Leonard comes home. Teen, ~5k words.
As always, spoilers for palimpsest. Please please please read that first!

ENT Rewatch Starlog, 18 March, 2024: Episode 3.16 “Doctor’s Orders”
Phlox and Porthos walk through an apparently empty NX-01, stopping to visit Captain Archer who lies asleep with a device on his forehead.
Tumblr media
Flash back to a few days before and there is an area of spatial anomaly brought on by the spheres between them and Azati Prime. It would add a lot of time to go around, and if they go through damage the human minds. Phlox suggests that he would not be affected. He’ll put all the human crew into a mental stasis while Enterprise crosses the area of space.
At first, Phlox is having a fine time, getting caught up on writing to friends, playing with Porthos, occasionally feeding his pets in the nude. But while watching a film, he hears something moving.
Tumblr media
Tracking it through the ship he ends up in the shuttlebay, and indeed finds T’Pol—also not sedated—who doesn’t know what he’s hearing. The incidents get worse, and Phlox sees Xindi insectoids on board. T’Pol finds nothing, and suspects Phlox is having some sort of breakdown, possibly based on loneliness considering how social Denobulans are. He insists on checking the ship with a phase pistol, and upon almost blasting Porthos, begins to realize that maybe she is correct. He scans and finds that in fact there is a non-lethal, but potentially hallucinogenic effect in his brain.
He prepares to put himself under and leave T’Pol in charge since they will be through the region of space in six hours, but she begins to panic, also suffering from the anomaly. Worse, the area has expanded faster than anticipated, and though Tucker said they shouldn’t, the ship will have to warp to escape. Phlox and T’Pol bumble through with her seemingly useless.
Tumblr media
They do escape however, and once free, Phlox’s mind is restored. He wakes up Archer, and before going on to the crew escorts T’Pol to her quarters. There he finds the Vulcan sedated; the T’Pol he has been talking to has also been a hallucination.
Tumblr media
A fun episode that makes you feel like it’s falling into the helpless T’Pol trope, but is saved in the reveal that she couldn’t help because she isn’t real.  It does turn out to be a nice exploration of Phlox’s character and a good way to do a bottle show while still getting the overall arc to move along. I do wonder though is Phlox hallucinates almost shooting Porthos; the Beagle forgives him pretty quickly.
Nice callbacks as well to the earlier episode “Dear Doctor” with Phlox’s friend Dr. Lucas getting a letter. We’ll of course get to meet the good doctor in Season 4 during the Augments story arc.
Also a fun line when Phlox suspects he’s hearing things because the week prior, Trip showed him “The Exorcist.”
Next Voyage: Archer has to determine whether all his eggs go in one basket after Enterprise finds a Xindi Insectoid “Hatchery.”

The finished commission of the main shuttle-bay on a Jamestown-class carrier starship, completed for Endeavour Gaming.
Tumblr media
The shuttlebay has two wings of Valkyrie fighters ready to launch at a moments notice, which are ferried from two hanger decks by moving platforms.
Tumblr media
There are also four Danube-class Runabouts which can be moved to ancillery flight decks through the large doors that seperate the bays. Supporting them is a heavier-duty 'Argo'-type shuttle, able to ferry larger cargo loads or vehicle support to a planetary surface.
Tumblr media
Connecting the hanger decks is a walk-way above the 'Argo'-type shuttle's landing zone, and the rear cargo-holding area, which allows crew to oversee the shuttle-bay, and cross the space easily.
Tumblr media
Finally, at the rear of the bay, the main doors into the ship's saucer section; usually the first thing visitors or new crew will see on disembarking their shuttles. Displayed across the wall are the different patches for the ship, including the MACO division, the original Yorktown-badge before the ship was refitted, the refit badge, and the fleet badge to which the ship belongs.
Tumblr media
I'm very pleased with how the enviroment turned out, obviously taking a lot of design cues from Star Trek Online and shuttlebays seen in Lower Decks aboard the U.S.S. Cerritos.

"Sitting close with their knees touching" for J/7 please!!
Hello anon!
The shuttle shook, Tom doing everything he could to keep them steady. But it was a losing battle. The asteroid belt was taking shots at the little shuttle.
In the back, Kathryn was strapped onto a bench, Seven of Nine sitting securely next to her. After a particularly bouncing jolt, they had slid together, their knees and hips touching.
It took all of Kathryn's will power to not reach out to grab Seven's hand. Or leg, knee, any part of her body. But that wouldn't be appropriate. Even if they had finally told the crew about their relationship...it wasn't appropriate. They were working.
In the front of the shuttle, Tom called out that they would be entering the atmosphere of the small planet they were conducting a first contact for. Kathryn let out a soft sigh, grateful this bumpy trip was almost over.
And then she felt long slender fingers slide onto her knee. Seven's mechanic inlaid hand squeezed her knee affectionately and then withdrew. Kathryn blinked in surprise, but Seven didn't even look in her direction.
However, across the narrow walkway of the shuttlebay, Chakotay and B'Elanna looked far too amused.

The Galaxy project - new release
Tumblr media
Full pdf booklet and individual images of pages:
This is the latest update of my project to reverse engineer blueprints of the studio sets of Star Trek TNG.
This version took a lot time to get out as it was a complete redo from scratch to replace all of the outdated previous version.
Current version: 2023/10/07 - Standard Doors - Turbolift Doors - Future Imperfect Doors - Panels - Straight Arch corridor section - K-Arch - Hathaway Warp Core and warp conduits - Button panels (long and small) - Small capsule Labels - Alcove Console (used in med lab, science lab and many other off-ship locations) - Shuttlebay (series 1& 2) - Shuttlebay (series 3-7) - Holodeck and arch (now including arch panels and Control PADD) - Cargo Bay (cargo lifter and cargo transporter) - Jefferies Junction
Note: there was a format change part way through the project to make things easier for me, so some of the pages are still in the old portrait format. These will be updated to the new format in later editions.
These plans have been produced for non-commercial fan creations / productions. It is not this plan's intention to encourage any commercial activity regarding the Star Trek properties. Star Trek is copyright Paramount Global
