New Norfolk and Gardiner! And Harriet Walter as Maggie Pole, she was great as Margaret Beaufort in The Spanish Princess.
When I first read the description under Henry's image, I thought they were trying to do something clever by combining VIII and villian. But they weren't aha.

i don't really feel like i have any insights lately, like none of this actually matters. it doesn't, really.
and what's more, existing here as myself has just become uncomfortable. between the near-constant refrain that h/ilary m/antel was the greatest woman who ever lived, and reblogs of l/ochiels on my dash....i've come to feel that transgender ppl are regarded an afterthought in this community at best, a nuisance at worst. there's no happiness or warmth or inspiration here, anymore. i'll be locking this all up again, for the forseeable future.

in my heart linda has like 2935938 minutes of screen time every season, she's just so satisfying to watch for me, need to put her in a jar and shake her around a little, etc
#i love how caustic and judgemental she is hdhdh and how much of that is sheer self-protection#the actress is so enjoyable too i need to see her in something else#ik she played jane seymour in wolf hall lol but i hardly remember a thing from that show (i prefer the book definitely)

I saw your post on how much you hate the reign (XD) and wanted to ask what is a show you feel intensely about and why? 👀
Thank you for the ask!
I’ll be honest, I kinda play up my hatred for shows like Bridgerton and Reign because in reality I know they’re fantasy and not supposed to be historical (my only real gripe with them is that they use real historical figures but eh, that’s more of a nitpick though I do have some legitimate criticisms for bridgerton but I won’t get into those)
I suppose if there’s anything that I intensely dislike, it’s not really one particular show but a whole genre, I think I’ve mentioned it before, it’s those series’s that claim to be telling the real stories of women from history but miss the mark entirely and make them a caricature of an empowering woman (not to use a bit of a meme word here but I think the word ‘girlbossify’ is very appropriate here)
This is particularly noticeable with Tudor dramas (like any adaptation of Philippa Gregory’s works like The Spanish Princess, The White Queen, The White Princess, The Other Boleyn Girl, etc. which are already bad for this I’d like to mention, the recent channel 5 Anne Boleyn miniseries, the recent(ish) Mary, Queen of Scots movie, and a few more I’m probably missing) but I have seen it with other time periods as well
I could talk at length about how reducing an actual human woman to a caricature is not the win for feminism directors think it is, but why would I do that when I can aptly summarise my issue with a quote from one of my favourite history youtubers The Laughing Cavalier where he described one of these characters as ‘Joan of Arc on steroids’ 🙃

The only minor bad thing about Wolf Hall s2 is that my man Thomas More isn't getting a Wolsey like flashback. What Cromwell needs is clearly another burden as he goes through what's left of his life.

Is it me or do I notice a chunk of Wolf Hall fans tend to not like Anne Boleyn. I think a lot of it has to do with how she was portrayed in both the show and the books...
I like her, a lot...but i notice a lot of people don't.
#i have a meta somewhere i wanna write#about how anne in wolfhall was explitictly written to be unlikable#and yes i know i spelled explicitly wrong i am on a time crunch#but she was written that way in contrast to jane seymour being written 'good' per se#very different#noble and innocent#and i kinda don't like that#whereas in the tudors#both anne and jane were on equal ground when it came to the way the narrative treated them and they were rivals#albeit for a short time#this is more me saying i don't like when anne is made out to be more evil and jane is made out to be more sweet#and in general i thnk it does a great disservice to both women#because jane is very much a player too#but back to it#wolf hall fans at least imo dont like her#and tha tkinda hurt my feelings T-T#wolf hall#anne boleyn#i also liked the complexity in she and thomas's relationship#and how idk unlike the fans at least in the show#he kinda felt bad for her T-T
