absolutely lost my mind when I saw ur coco, I wasn't expecting to see you draw wha :'D I havent started reading it yet myself but a friend talks to me about it and I had the great honour to meet shirahama sensei at a live drawing and autograph session at a con in my country, the vibes around the series and its creator are just so good huhu idk I just wanted to scream about wha (despite not having read yet before LOL) the art style is so mind blowing and seeing the charas drawn in your style is like the most unexpected but delightful crossover 😂😂 looking forward to seeing more wha stuff from u!!!!
You met Shirahama-sensei...!!! That's amazing, wow, you are the luckiest!! I hope to be able to meet her sometime and thank her for her lovely work :')
I hope whenever you start reading the series you enjoy it as much as I did! You can scream about witch hat atelier to me anytime, I actually don't have anyone to ramble about it with because none of my friends have read it (YET! i'll win this battle) so I appreciate people screaming about wha in my direction heh 🧡
AND IT'S SUCH A BIG COMPLIMENT THAT YOU LIKE SEEING THE CHARACTERS IN MY STYLE I just hope I'm making them some justice! You'll get more drawings of witch hat atelier from me, that I can assure you!! :)

Did you read the spin off wha manga about olruggio and qifrey cooking for (their dauthers) their students? It's just so cute. They are really a family and the qifrey x olruggio is so strong XD
Hey Anon! Ah, no actually I haven't, because I never take the time to check about whether or not it's "canon" in Shirahama-sensei's opinion, even though I hear it's indeed pretty cute. :))
I'm bound to read it at some point, I think! I just need to find some motivation to read pure slice of life (not my fave genre in fantasy settings).
Thanks for passing by, have a good day, Anon!

Question: Can we tag Shirahama-sensei in our art?
A: You should not directly tag or @ Shirahama in your art. However, you can use the official WHA tags (’Δ帽子’ and/or ‘witchhatatelier’), and of course make sure to use ‘orufreyweek2023′ ! Thank you for your question!

BSD Light Novel: STORM BRINGER Afterword
Afterword by Asagiri Kafka
*Does not contain any spoilers regarding the actual events in the novel
Please do NOT repost this translation anywhere.
Tumblr media
Hi, it's been a while. This is Asagiri Kafka.
Have you been doing well?
How was the seventh novel written under Beans Bunko, "Bungo Stray Dogs: STORM BRINGER"?
As compared to the previous six, this novel is the longest, most laborious, and the one written in a lot of different places all the while groaning as I think about the this and the that, and all the possibilities that could happen.
To those who have all the novels with you, try lining this up on your bookshelf. It's so thick, the width is unreal. Up to now, the longest one was "55 Minutes" but even so, the afterword in that book starts from page 308. What's up with you now, Asagiri?
If I may add, this novel is set as the continuation of the novel "Dazai, Chuuya, 15 years old" which was released about a year and a half ago. That one is the prequel, and this is the sequel. The mystery behind the Arahabaki and Verlaine incident in Fifteen has now been unraveled in this book. Don't tell me someone actually charged in here without having read the prequel? I am hoping there isn't. If you did, then I'm sorry. After all, you might be mad and say that "It's not clear at all!" "Of course, we wouldn't know that!" "Using 'Dazai, Chuuya, 16 years old' as the title would have been kinder of you, you know?" And yes, you are indeed right, I don't have any excuses at all. (The good thing about speaking here in the afterword is that no matter how mad people get and I apologize, physical punches will never come my way).
So basically what I want to say is that, together with the prequel this story is a veeery long one.
But the reason why this novel became this long can be explained in a few words.
Do you remember? In the afterword of "Dazai, Chuuya, 15 years old", I wrote that I am hoping to squeeze in enough information in the sequel so that I can finally say that “The Double Black past arc is now complete!”
Yes.
That's it.
There was too much than I imagined.
The immensity of Chuuya's character. Being able to write a character this deep and feel the greatest pleasure of having people read it is one thing, but at the same time I was also worried, wondering if it was okay to publish something this big... but in the end, we're here, and it has been released.
But even if this much has been written now, stories that have not been told yet still remain. How Chuuya would continue to fight from now on, how he would become an Executive. What sort of feelings Chuuya held when Dazai left the Mafia, and how he would grow from there.
But for the time being, I would like to leave that destiny of Chuuya to the power of your imagination. What lies ahead of his path, for now, would remain a secret, but I can only tell you one thing that's for sure — that road is not a smooth and easy one.
For the publication of this novel, I have been blessed with support from a lot of people. To my partner, Harukawa Sango-sensei, who has always adorned the novels with their ever-beautiful and perfect artworks.
To Shirahama-sama, the editor who has always been patient and forgiving with the schedule and proofreading of my work. The publication and sales team, the bookstores, and to everyone else I am indebted to. Thank you very much.
Let's meet again in the next novel.

Your post about witch hat atelier is what finally decided me to read it and I can't thank you enough! I've only read one chapter yet but the art is so lovely, it's almost reminding me a bit of Chris Riddell's haha so it's very comfy and nostalgic
ah, i’m so glad!!! i think i can see what u mean abt chris riddell, his art is also very confident and line-heavy for textures and form building...the art is really incredibly lovely, i cannot at all believe that kamome shirahama makes it so fast...there’s like two volumes a year! to create something at that level of detail and to make so much of it so fast, (AND AS FAR AS I CAN TELL SHE WORKS TRADITIONALLY TOO...I HAVE BIG ADMIRATION!!!)
like it’s not even just the characters who have beautiful detailed designs, but the objects and scenery they interact with...i hope she is having fun at least! how intense...here im gonna share some of my favorite bits in the manga w/o context, all are from very early on in the manga, and don't really contain anything more plot relevant than what i've already chattered about on my blog
(reminder for folks who havent read manga in a while: read from right to left!)

brief pause just to. admire this one especially ^^^ its REALLY difficult to get somebody to read a page going UPWARDS when our gaze wants to go down, so that shirahama-sensei is able to draw the eye upwards so fluidly toward that little figure [upward + leftward direction of clothes and arm as well as the border in rightmost panel leads to the upward and leftward gaze of the character, which we instinctively follow to the tiny figure floating in the high left corner] is REALLY impressive...its not a move that any comics teacher would recommend but she pulls it off incredibly well for being, essentially, Comics Rulebreaking!!!

her artwork is SO GOOD...sometimes she posts inking timelapses on her insta or twitter. wonderful...absolutely obsessed w/ her artwork it inspires me to be more careful and intentional with my own
