Book One- The Enemy by: SillySnowden11 M | COMPLETE This is such a good read! The villages are at war with one another and commanders ST end up having a tentative alliance. Slow burn romance.
New Blood by: JFalcon COMPLETE Very long multi-chapter fic that includes many other characters, but it has ShikaTema as the main relationship throughout and is very well written.
This took me so long to make, but honestly I've always wanted to have a list of all my favorite ShikaTema fics all in one place. Hope this makes it easier to enjoy all of these amazing works! Thank you to all the writers who have made my days better throughout the years!

Really great things about ShikaTema(+Dai) I wish people talked about more often:
Shikamaru and Temari are a great match because Shikamaru is probably the only person outside of Temari’s brothers who can bring out her soft side and help her get more in tune with her emotions and get away with it. For her part, Temari’s more proactive and blunt nature means she can challenge him and keep him on his toes, as well as call him out on his bullshit and/or snap some sense back into him when necessary.
Temari’s more intense methods contrasts with Shikamaru’s laid back demeanor, but Shikamaru’s more emotional tendencies help break through Temari’s cold facade. They balance each other out.
Temari and Shikamaru are each other’s intellectual equals. ‘Nuff said.
It’s canon that Temari, being a princess, is of higher status than Shikamaru. This is apparently of a certain degree of concern to the Nara clan elder, but Shikamaru and Shikadai embrace Temari’s awesomeness and have no qualms about it at all.
Also canon, Shikamaru staying unbothered when Suna accused him of being an upstart by marrying Temari. Dude knows his wife is better than him and he likes it.
Both Temari and Shikamaru seem to be doting parents who are very involved with Shikadai’s upbringing, encouraging him before his Chunin exam match and later being the only set of parents to loudly cheer their child on. ShikaTema are also seen having an in-depth discussion on Shikadai’s progress. As a result, they’re intimately aware of Shikadai’s strengths and weaknesses (Shikamaru when he on more than one occasion puts faith in their son to do the right thing, and Temari when she recognizes Shikadai’s cautious procrastinating tendencies), and work to nurture them accordingly.
Shikamaru and Temari not only train Shikadai in their respective signature techniques, but Temari also works with Shikamaru to improve upon the Nara clan’s original Shadow Possession jutsu to create a brand new variation. So when Shikadai performs it, he’s showing off the fruits of his parents’ combined efforts. If that’s not teamwork, I don’t know what is.
Despite running a country, Shikamaru makes an effort to spend time with his family, as he seems to be very close with Temari and Shikadai. On the flipside, Temari doesn’t let married life stop her from going on missions, kicking ass, and attending important events as an important figure in Suna (something that causes the aforementioned Nara clan elder’s inferiority complex).
That look of utter vindication on Temari’s face when Shikadai tells her and Shikamaru that he’s only been focusing on Shadow Possession and holding back on Wind Release before because he didn’t want Shikamaru to lose face and feel bad (Mom’s technique is cooler and the Nara men know it). Followed immediately by Shikadai taking pride in both his parents’ techniques? This is what dreams are made of.
Shikamaru and Temari inappropriately giggling behind the Nara clan elder’s back like proud parents when Shikadai decides against going into politics, then immediately putting on identical proper poker faces when the elder whirs on them is absolutely precious.
Literally every single one of these bullet points is canon and this is why the ShikaTema dynamic and the ShikaTemaDai family will always be my favorite
