20. Any plans to work on original fiction this year?
Vague ones. The chief problem there besides the fact I tend to feel way more strongly about my fic plans is that I have one idea where the story and characters seem to flow out naturally… and it's the one I'm most worried is trite and inane, lol.
OTOH, my current list of fic first drafts to be written is uncommonly short, so who knows?

General opinion/How much I care about them: eosd is absolutely overexposed but that doesn't have to affect how much I genuinely like the sdm crew, and Remilia 🧛♀️! its a little funny how the og (well og windows) final boss has somewhat faded into the shadow these days, but then again you kinda cant predict who will suddenly become relevant in canon anymore
Either way, I like Remilia! the devil who insists on playing up her castlevania aesthetic to outsiders whenever possible. Despite general fandom playing her up as a spoiled sort, I do believe in her dignity as head of the household at least to the extent that she cares about her entire makeshift family dearly and has long since carved a proper place for them all in gensokyo...
A ship I love: There's really only two big Remilia ships for me, and those are with Patchouli, her oldest and dearest friend, or Sakuya, her devoted human maid. what I like about remipatchy is a lot to do with the implied history and closeness they have, but that's not as easy to just get into on the spot, so i'll instead talk about remisaku.
They're really funny, and bizarrely sweet in ways thats quite unlike any other ship. A lot of it has to do with Sakuya in particular being the most youkai-like being in the whole mansion despite being the only human. The imagery of the dark vampire mistress and her loyal servant is something that they both enjoy playing up and only get more into it whenever the other starts encouraging it. And yet its definitely Remilia who probably has trouble sometimes keeping up with Sakuya...
also remisaku is also a staple for that melancholic ageless creature x mortal human relationship, ever since Sakuya said that thing about wanting to live as a human... Many fans of gone into depth in it in many different stories over the decades, because its a good cliche!
i know technically you can do that kind of story with just about any human x nonhuman, but in my opinion there are only two touhou ships that genuinely warrant and fit with it. One is mokou/keine, because being unable to die is obviously mokou's entire deal (while the other immortal characters explore other facets that come with living forever), and the other is remisaku, even if only because of one iconic line of dialogue, and because they came first 😛
A non-romantic relationship that I love: I think the only people Remlia would trust to take care of Flandre (as in both caring for her and also being capable of doing so) outside of sdm (so basically sakuya, patchouli and meiling) are Reimu and Marisa. while i don't think Reimu's ever actively offering to do so, Marisa's frequent visits to the sdm probably makes as a sorta surrogate big sister to Flandre, which maybe annoys Remilia to some extent especially when Flandre jokes(?) about only having one sister who is also blonde, but i think she's pretty happy about it otherwise n_n
although of speaking of blonde people visiting Flandre and acting as a surrogate something! I really love to imagine what madness is going through Remilia's head when it comes to Okina, this sage who basically abducted her little sister who is not supposed to casually go ouside and take her on as some weird protoge
The NOTP: i mean aside from the obvious 'dont ship with her sister', i guess i dont have any feelings for remilia/reimu. I know Remilia was basically the first of Reimu's enemies turned recurring visitors, but there's also been so many more exciting examples since (which uh even include Sakuya!)
My biggest headcanon about them: you know, it is also funny how koumakan doesnt entiiirely gel with touhou's worldbuilding since then. like what role do they even serve in gensokyo? how are they maintaining their wealth? I know they were already rich when they arrived, but its been a long time since, andthey're gonna run out of trinkets or old hierlooms to sell eventually, right? Though I guess if the sdm crew want to claim the entirety of misty lake belongs to them, uuuuh whos gonna care enough to stop them? Yeah that's my headcanon, Remilia and her crew have claimed everywhere within like a hundred square feet of land of their mansion as their private property.
An idea for a fanfiction I would like to write/read about them: gosh i think any kind of fun or interesting story involving remilia or sdm i can think of, I've probably already seen it somewhere! that's the power of eosd popularity!! Not that a good idea can't be done more than once but it means im not exactly left wanting 😄
Something that makes me think of them: i kinda cant think anything this moment and trying to force it would probably be really unnatural, but i will say Remilia is the only member of the aristocracy i would respect. probably.

akyuu shinmyoumaru fic?
that’s the one in the folder “gays so tiny you need a microscope to see them.” (because they’re basically the two tiniest characters who aren’t fairies.) I had a few different setups for it that I experimented with. In one, Shinmyoumaru showed up at Akyuu’s house to demand that she write the whole history of the inchlings so it was never lost again. In another, Shinmyoumaru was getting pressured by her parents to get married, so she proposed to the only human noble she could think of, Akyuu. In yet another, the inchlings had a tradition where anybody from the nobility had to kill a big powerful monster before they could prove that they were an adult, and Shinmyoumaru showed up at Akyuu’s house and asked to be pointed to an appropriate monster to slay.
Either way, the plot would eventually point them toward a violent youkai causing problems in the human village. They would hunt it down while bonding over the fact that they were both nobility and a bit frustrated by their relative powerlessness compared to most of Gensokyo.

How do you interpret the events of Dolls in Pseudo Paradise's story?
The eight honest men are a group of thieves who tried to run away to the countryside.
One of them, the most cowardly, couldn’t stand it and ran; they got lost and somehow lost their humanity. After a failed suicide, they realise they’re not human, and turn on the other honest men. They kill the most curious, most beautiful, and youngest, and then fake the kidnapping of themselves and the remainder.
They’re the ones who say a “mysterious pierrot” attacked them, and convince the others (except the wisest) to escape. The attempt succeeds because they want it to, and they double back to kill the wisest, who realised the pierrot was one of their number.
Thinking their escape was successful, the others don’t think to question each other. They slip a “love potion” to the most mature, which is probably some kind of drug since they didn’t wake up after taking it. The most wary cottoned on to the pierrot too late, and is killed. The earliest riser realises too late that the most cowardly, the only other survivor, had to be the killer.
The most cowardly briefly regains their senses/their humanity and rationalises it as the work of the earliest riser; they then attempt to kill themselves again and their youkai side takes over completely. They’re the “beautiful blonde girl” mentioned by the shrine maiden; I naturally take the two to be Jacketko and Labelko respectively.
As a less directly plot-related aside, the youngest complains about not being able to smoke opium; while the honest men are thieves, there’s nothing to suggest this is illegal or frowned upon, it’s just part of the party. The turn of the 20th century saw a massive uptick in opposition to opium, so I’d say this gives us “the 19th century at the latest” for timescale.
If you take the mention of “the exit to paradise” as meaning the Hakurei Barrier exists, this means it’s almost certainly in the immediate post-Barrier era, and the shrine maiden/Labelko would probably be the shrine maiden who saw the barrier erected.
(Also, it’s interesting that the English translation insists on using “pierrot” translated verbatim, when it’s really just Japanese for “clown”. They used a French loanword because the English loanword was ambiguous.)

My Baby's First Big Epic Cataclysmic Fanfic which I worked on for the better part of a decade. It's kinda a shame since I wrote a lot of it and still like parts of it, but I just can't see myself finding either the motivation or energy to even finish the rough draft.

Iku
How I feel about this character
I think she’s pretty neat! One of the coolest-looking both in design and the way she moves. I used to not think much of her beyond what was already there in swr, but a certain mimic’s stories made me appreciate all sorts of ideas with her.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
I don’t have any serious ones, or even jokey ones I think about often... I’ll make up for it by going extra in the next section though.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Most obvious one is Tenshi. I like that initial development from them barely considering each other past the most basic formalities, to them getting to know each other a little better for the first time after Tenshi’s self-caused incident. They’re not exactly buddy-buddy, but Iku comes to admire certain traits of Tenshi and maybe feeling proud of how she changes thanks to her time on Earth, and Tenshi comes to consider Iku to be maybe the one and only thing from Heaven that is worthwhile, and the only person from heaven who cares about her as a person rather than what she’s supposed to do as a celestial.
Next obvious one, there’s no way she and Tenshi didn’t both begrudgingly became friends with Suika whom I like to think spent a year-long vacation in heaven. Iku may not have ever had any problems or animosity towards her daily lifestyle as a messenger, but Suika just throwing it into disarray every now and then was appreciable in it’s own right. I like the thought of them sharing a drink on evenings, Iku talking about her work or the people she knows, Suika laughing at her face, and somehow it’s always a nice time. Also Iku secretly thinks it’s extremely entertaining every time someone is tasked to drive Suika out of heaven and Suika effortlessly beats them up.
My unpopular opinion about this character
I think literally everything I just wrote above about her dynamic with Tenshi counts as an unpopular opinion? Usually it’s either she’s entirely subservient, or she just 100% doesn’t care for her, neither of which are that interesting to me.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I just need her smugly telling people about the weather, and then taunting them about how disasters might befall them just to freak them out.
Medicine
How I feel about this character
I surprise myself with how much I like her. Maybe nostalgia is a part of it because pofv was my first touhou game, and when she first shows up in that stage of purple flowers and her theme song kicks... it leaves an appropriately ominous impression! I like her a lot for real though. Her backstory kinda sets up her as a dark figure, and she certainly can be what with backstory and passion for poison, but she’s just as capable of being goofy with her dreams of doll liberation.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Skipping romances. Though honestly, I think she would probably have roughly the same kind of relationship with just most other character, since her narrow-mindedness groups anyone and everyone as “my fellow dolls” and “not a doll”. One fun exception would be her looking at Alice’s dolls, and assigning herself as the one to check whether or not Alice is treating them properly. (Alice puts up with it because she likes the chance to examine a living doll like Medicine).
Another would be her being friends with Yuuka. This is somewhat popular in fanworks and with me even though I never came up with the ‘why’. I just like the thought of Medicine respecting the way Yuuka cares for flowers and in turn finds her pleasant company. Yuuka likewise respects Medicine and humours (maybe even believes in!?) her goals of doll emancipation.
My unpopular opinion about this character
I think she can actually pretty cool, and even other youkai are scared to go near her (mostly after they meet her once, tick her off, and get hit with all the diseases)!
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I think she should come to Miyoi’s bar and demand dolls allowed to be served drinks. Miyoi agrees only because she’s afraid Medicine will infect everything with poison, but Medicine’s actually too civil to even think of doing that.

How I feel about this character
Is it weird to say I feel a sense of melancholy every time I see a picture of her? It must be because all those moody scenery fanarts of her surrounding by leaves has left a strong impression on me... Anyway, I like her and Minoriko a bunch! I’m sure like most people, I consider her the more introspective and spiritual (funny thing to say about a god, I realise) of the two.
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Okay while I was coming up with ships like on the spot here, and I realise I’d rather just cover any relationshps in general of hers I might like in the next section. Some of them can be constituted as romantic if I ever just wanted to tick the ‘is this a romance’ checkbox on a whim.
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Shizuha doesn’t strike me as someone who goes out of her way to interact with people, instead being content with whoever comes to her. One of those I think would be HIna, whose aura of misfortune is something Shizuha is totally indifferent to, and so they hang out without a care.
I bought Ushahori’s video about the Aki sisters chatting it up with the Watatsuki sisters, and thanks to that I’m pretty fond of the latter stopping by to visit whenever they drop by Gensokyo.
My unpopular opinion about this character
I have no idea if this is unpopular, but I just assume that it’s a very common story beat to have Shizuha’s angst over the inevitable passing of autumn and her jealously towards Minoriko’s popularity with humans into both outright despair over her being and resentment towards her sister respectively. I don’t have anything against either those takes, but my default interpretation of Shizuha has her mostly melancholic yet peacefully content and even happy about the passing of autumn. I also think she and Minoriko are basically two peas in a pod and never have any serious disagreements, always having each other’s back no matter the situation.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
In the canon that is real life, I want to eat a sweet potato from her sister’s stand.

BROTP: Kyouko, fluffy animal friends :x - This isn't particularly canon-supported as Nazrin only appears at Myouren when she's summoned by Shou, but if Shou & Nazrin got as close as I'd like to think they do, then she'd probably be around alot more often.
OTP: Shou, but of course. As anyone that follows me will know I adore the "household"-type scenarios involving Shou and Nazrin. The two characters having pre-existing story helps dramatically, and the fact that Nazrin was originally assigned not only to serve Shou but also *to keep an eye on her* makes for some lovely suspicious-to-best-friends stories. Their colour schemes and character design are also very complimentary, and they have some excellent fanart that cements my love for the pairing.
