Games like Mass Effect, if they have romancable NPCs that are not part of the “Main Cast”, who’s romance arcs are shorter, should just have those romance optoins be a “Bonus” one you can do without sacrificing a main-love interest option.

A Poly-option.

What I am saying is, I should have been allowed to Romance Samantha AND Liara during ME3.

Gonna be a shorter one (edit: turns out not by much lol) than usual today bc this ship’s a bit simpler than most of the others, but nonetheless:

Shaynor time baby!

Alright, before I get into why I’m here I just wanna head off any questions at the pass: I have nothing against Liara. I just like Sam better.

Alright, so! Most of the relationships I’ve been looking at this month have things that set them apart in some super unique way that I focus on. While they have plenty of excellent qualities to their dynamic, the reason I want to highlight Shepard and Traynor is actually how heartrendingly mundane their relationship is.

I am by absolutely no means using “mundane” to mean their relationship is boring, make no mistake. They’re adorable, these two, and have some of the best chemistry I’ve ever seen in a video game romance outside of games like life is strange, where character interaction gets literally all of the focus it possibly can, as opposed to here where it’s part of a much larger whole. What I mean by mundane is that their love is just a normal, quiet, happy background plot in the larger story of ME3.

So many romances in so many different types of media get dragged through some very serious fire before they get a happy ending, if they even get one at all. Even just in the trilogy here, you got the possibility for Shep to be in a romance with Kaiden or Ashley and having to repair that in ME3 after everything that went down in ME2. Or perhaps the tumultuous ups and downs of Shep and Liara’s romance, all under the knowledge that Liara will, inevitably, outlive Shepard by many centuries.

Shep and Traynor’s dynamic is casual, flirty, full of humor, and consistently supportive and caring. Their relationship plays out in the background, a nice respite from the blows being thrown by every new turn in the main plot. They go from strangers, to flirting, to dating, to being deeply in love, much like many real people do, and they built a strong, enviable relationship despite incredible adversity.

The thing that makes me love them so much, beyond their chemistry and care for each other, is that they get to just be happy together. There is plenty of conflict elsewhere, plenty of other people and problems to deal with. Their relationship is something that gives them a respite from it all, gives them strength in knowing they have each other. It’s a wonderful, heartwarming thing to see in a world where we so often just twist the knife on romantic relationships for cheap drama.

I used to do this thing on Twitter where I would make a thread of videos on my YouTube channel that are one view away from a round number.

BlueSky doesn't make doing it easy, and Twitter likes to hide promotional tweets, so I'm going to try doing this here. Wish me luck.

Though not as a thread, obviously, just one post.

Anyway...

First up, from Season 2, it's the episode on the movie The Beach Girls. Spoiler Alert: This movie SUUUUUUUCKS.

Next, from Season 3, we have Blood of Dracula's Castle, which, if I remember right, contain possibly the lamest Dracula in cinema history. Pretty sure Donald Trump could whoop this guy's ass.

After that we have another Season 3 three movie, the least vampirey movie in a DVD set titled The Vampire Collection, and also a confusing mess, The Witches Mountain. Or The Witch's Mountain, no one seems to be in agreement on which. Er, pun not originally intended.

We move on to Season 4, and Season 4's best movie, the directorial debut of Dolph Lundgren, The Killing Machine (a.k.a. Icarus).

We jump past Season 5 into Season 6 with a movie that was never going to be good good, but couldn't even manage to be bad good. It was, in fact, boring. Santa Jaws, everyone.

"[mshep/fshep] is the only TRUE shepard" incorrect. there are thousands of true shepards, because everyone's shepard is different, and the devs have confirmed a thousand times over that there is no one "canon" shepard. there's a million different reasons somebody might prefer one shepard or the other, and both flavors are equally valid. just because YOU prefer fshep doesn't mean everyone else agrees, and same for mshep. just use the damn gender-neutral pronouns like we agreed to OVER TEN YEARS AGO. electric chair.

Shepard. She absolutely treasures Samantha, and is amazed that she found someone who can see her in all her humanity and stay. And she feels guilty because she knows the toll her calling as a soldier puts on Sam. So she tends to go overboard on gift-giving occasions—not so much in expense or quantity, but in trying to find exactly the right thing.

who suggests new things in bed

Absolutely Sam. Her sense of curiosity isn’t limited to science lol.

who gets jealous easiest

Also Sam. She’s relentless and competitive, and dating a woman who draws a lot of attention. However, she tends to be fierce, bared teeth and grinning, rather than insecure about it.

who is the best cook

It’s a tie, they’re both terrible. Their kitchen is spotless and their trashcan full of takeout containers.
