The lightest ‘boop’ on the nose.
Nya and Aric stepped up for this, along with @shimmer-like-agirl‘s smuggler Shawnni… since she is Nya’s bestie ;D Have some post-Father’s Day Feels ^,^
“Wow.”
Nya chuckled to herself at Aric’s quiet exclamation. He gazed in awe at the swaddled kits in arms, his eyes darting to one then the other quickly as if he didn’t want to miss a movement. “You okay Big Guy?”
It seemed to take a minute for the question to sink in before he looked up, “Yeah I’m… I’m…” Sighing deeply, he looked back down at the kits. “Wow.”
Nya laughed harder. “Glad you’re happy. A lil’ late to exchange them.”
His eyes flew to hers looking aghast and his arms tightened around the babes before he laughed lightly. “Not on your life.” His features softened with concern as he took in her bed-ridden form. “What about you? How you feeling Hot Shot?”
“Been better,” she replied lightly as she attempted to stretch and winced.
“Hey now, don’t rush,” he admonished. “I got these two, why don’t you take a nap?”
“It’d take a crowbar to pry them from you I think,” she teased and he shook his head.
“Nah, I could give them up if I had to.”
Just then Nya’s keen ears caught wind of a commotion outside her door, along with familiar voice - one that had her grinning widely. “You’re about to get your chance to prove that. Company’s here.”
“Alright, where’s Red at?”
Shawnni’s voice carried down the hall and Aric shook his head. “So much for restful recovery,” he muttered as he rose carefully and gently handed the kits to Nya then kissed her forehead. “Want me to get rid of her?”
“Bite your tongue,” she retorted.
“Figures.” Letting out another sigh he softly booped each kit on the nose then headed to the door and opened it. “Over here Shawnni.”
“There ya are Fuzzy. Hold up a tick, I ain’t movin’ as fast as I like.”
After a few moments a flurry of balloons bobbed through the door, followed by a very pregnant Shawnni. “Corso’s busy showing off Lani to all the nurses but I ain’t in no shape to be standin’ around.” Her blue eyes flashed with ire as she put her hand on her hip and huffed, “And here I thought we’d be roomies. Jus’ couldn’t wait, could ya?”
“Blame these two,” Nya laughed. “They’re the ones who couldn’t wait.”
Any trace of irritation faded while Shawnni handed the battalion of balloons to Aric and waddled over to Nya’s bed. “Oh my stars,” she sighed. “What are their names?”
“Tileel and Essa.”
“They’re perfect,” she stated, then as she glanced over at Aric she chuckled, “Looks like Red’s genes were working overtime.” She wasn’t wrong, both kits shared the bright orange swath that streaked across their mama’s forehead and light charcoal stripes.
“Just wait, those are definitely my girls,” Aric proudly assured her.
As if on cue Essa opened her eyes, focusing the amber jewels on Shawnni before yawning and closing them again. The soft coo that escaped the smuggler made Nya laugh and she offered up one of the babies. “Since you’re a pro at this…”
Shawnni scooped up the kit, snuggling it expertly to her chest then rubbing her cheek on the top of its head. “Never gets old,” she sighed before she winked at Nya. “You did good Red.”
There was a shift as Aric gingerly perched near the foot of her bed, avoiding sitting on her feet. He beamed as he rubbed her legs and his gaze fell to the twins, “Yes. Yes, she did.”

So this post prompted me to look up videos of Timothy Omundson singing, which led to a conversation with @shimmer-like-agirl about Aric Jorgan and Corso Riggs doing drunken karaoke, and well, the whole thing just snowballed from there, leading to this. By the way, I don’t know why Garth Brook’s ‘Friends in Low Places’ fit this so well, I just ran with it. ENJOY! >~,^
Oh kriff…
Even that simple two-word thought sent a spike of pain through Aric’s skull. He came to face down in his bed and tried to raise his arm, then groaned loudly at the ache in his joints. Turning over was an ordeal that didn’t improve the situation, in fact it sent his stomach spinning like some fiendish top.
Having flipped onto his back, he wiggled his limbs checking for injuries. Thankfully everything seemed intact, just sore from…  wait, sore from what? Squinting at the ceiling he tried to gather his thoughts. He didn’t remember much, just heading to the cantina with Nya, meeting up with Shawnni and Riggs and, oh kriff.
Groaning again, he managed to lift his hand to his face with a grimace and started rubbing his temple. Shawnni had gotten ‘something special’ during their last run and she’d smuggled some into the cantina in flasks for them to try. He hadn’t thought much of it until the room started whirling pleasantly and then, white out.
He kept picking his brain, trying to grasp onto bits and pieces of the evening, but all he could remember was the correct method of dismantling his rifle. Suddenly the door whooshed open and Nya’s silhouette filled the doorway.
“No light,” he croaked and she giggled.
“Good morning to you too Sunshine. Still haven’t recovered?”
“Recovered from what exactly?”
She sounded close to laughter as she carefully sat on the bed next to him. Gentle fingers stroked his forehead and she leaned over to kiss his cheek. “Aw, poor baby. Brought some hydration tablets and water. Also got some anodyne capsules, figured an injection stim might be a bit much.”
Water sounded heavenly and he sat up the best he could to take a drink. Nya assisted him, though he could see her smirking while her eyes gleamed with humor.
“All right,” he said after he’d washed down two pellets. “Fill me in.”
“Maybe I’d better show you,” she chuckled and pulled out a data-pad.
The image on the screen revealed the interior of a cantina, the one they’d visited last night to be exact. It scanned the patrons, all seeming in high spirits, before spinning around and focusing on Shawnni’s face. She was grinning from ear-to-ear, giggling wildly as she put her finger to her lips.
“Shh, shh, shh,” she slurred. “Y'all ain’t gonna wanna miss this.”
He chuckled himself for a moment. Shawnni’s accent got thicker the more drunk she was, right now she sounded like she’d whizzed past bombed and dove headfirst into annihilated. The camera spun again as the crowd started hooting and it focused on the edge of the stage. Aric saw himself with Riggs latched onto his hands, trying to drag him onto the platform. Meanwhile Nya was behind him, pushing with all she had.
“Oh no,” he moaned, covering his eyes with his hand.
“Oh yes,” chortled Nya. “No use in that.” She tugged his fingers from his face, her smirk widening. “Trust me, you’ll want to watch.”
Peering back at the data-pad he saw himself on the stage, a broad smile filling his face as it looked like he protested to a very wobbly Nya.
“How did you guys get me up there?” he asked
“Threatened to pull the waistband of your drawers up over your head. Now shush, the show’s about to start.”
Morbid curiosity finally got the better of him and he settled back to watch the scene unfold. On stage Riggs was lifting his arms, getting the audience hyped up. Aric winced as Shawnni’s hooting drowned out the rest of the patrons.
“Take it off!!” she shrieked.
“Later, but jus’ for you,” Riggs hollered back, laughing as he pointed at the wielder of the holo-cam.
Behind Riggs Aric could still see himself and Nya, but now she’d reached up and was tracing his ear as she spoke to him. That patented move almost always guaranteed she’d get her way and it looked like it’d worked again as he shrugged and nodded. She patted his chest and pulled him into a hard kiss before sauntering off.
Riggs grabbed a nearby microphone, tapping it a couple of times before asking, “We set?” He then grabbed another and handed it to Aric as the music started.
The camera shook for a moment as if jostled and Shawnni’s voice whispered, “Careful Red.”
“Sorry, sorry. You’re getting all this, right?”
“Every bit. I’d kiss a bantha ‘fore I missed this.”
When the ladies quieted he could hear the music, a slow heartfelt melody. Soon Riggs joined in.
“Blame it all on my roots. I showed up in boots, and ruined your black-tie affair.”
Aric started chuckling again, that sounded like Riggs and then some.
“The last one to know, the last one to show. I was the last one you thought you’d see there.
And I saw the surprise and fear in his eyes, when I took his glass of champagne.”
Riggs turned and motioned for Aric to move forward, pointing at the close-by monitor with a grin.
“And I toasted you. Said Honey, we may be through. But you’ll never hear me complain.”
Aric shook his head, his traitorous brain cursing him with a  brief memory of what happened next and he would’ve covered his eyes if Nya didn’t keep a tight grip on his hand, looking exceptionally smug. Holo Aric stepped up as Riggs threw an arm around his shoulder and the pair belted out.
“‘Cause I got friends in low places. Where the whiskey drowns and the beer chases my blues away.
And I’ll be okay.
I’m not big on social graces. Think I’ll slip on down to the oasis.
Oh I’ve got friends, in low places.”
“I think that’s enough,” he said and tried stopping the video, but Nya snatched the data-pad from him.
“Oh no you don’t,” she grinned evilly. “Not done yet.”
That didn’t bode well. Nya held the data-pad so that he could see it - while keeping it just out of his reach - and turned it up while they launched into the next verse. It looked like he’d really gotten into the spirit of things, swaying with Riggs as they sang. A few patrons held up lights, waving them back and forth. What began as a low murmur grew louder and he realized people were starting to sing along. By the time they reached the chorus it sounded like the whole cantina had joined in.
“Pssst, hold this Red.”
The whisper was followed by some light shaking of the holo-cam as it changed hands and both ladies started giggling. A pale scrap of fabric sailed through the air, landing at Riggs’s feet, and when he reached down to scoop it up he turned bright scarlet. Aric squinted closer and thought he caught a glimpse of lace between Riggs’s tanned fingers.
“Bloody hell, were those…?”
“Shawnni’s underwear. Dunno if I’ve ever seen Riggs that red.”
Curiosity struck him again and he tilted his head at Nya. “Did you throw yours?”
“I might have,” she cooed, grazing her fingers under his chin. “If I’d been wearing any.”
Ohhh. He wasn’t sure if it was the hydration tablets or the idea of his commando going commando but his headache seemed to vanish. Tugging her closer he watched as he and Riggs finished up, getting a massive round of applause from the crowd.
“You guys were definitely a hit,” said Nya and he nodded.
“Looks like. Glad you and Devane enjoyed yourselves.” Rolling his shoulder he groaned quietly at the residual twinging. “Remind me to wring her neck though. Whatever that stuff was it’s got me feeling like I went and wrestled a gundark.”
“No gundark Big Guy, that was me.”
“You?” Nya’s smug smile turned sultry and his memory blessed him with some much more pleasant images from the evening, more specifically what happened when they’d gotten back to the Spitfire.
“Well I figured one good performance deserved another,” she teased.
“No holos of that I imagine?” he chuckled and she shook her head.
“No, but if you’re having trouble remembering maybe I can jog your memory.” Setting the holo-pad on the stand by their bed she started sliding her hands over his chest, still smiling. “And if you do as good as you did last night, I’ll play back the applause.”

Stars and Garters
Got caught up in a vision of my Nya and @shimmer-like-agirl‘s Shawnni in an American Old West AU and... well let’s just say I don’t think a locomotive could’ve hit me much harder. Not sure where it’s going, but it was fun to start >~,^<
Nya had to fight hard to keep the smile off of her face. Despite the fact that the raven-haired woman pacing in front of her desk looked mad enough to eat a live snake and spit out a belt there was something about her that Nya found amusing.
Maybe it was how Miss Devane flounced furiously in her scarlet dress, or maybe it was the accent that got thicker the madder she got. But most of Nya’s amusement was probably from watching the emotions flit like clouds across the sky over the face of the man who accompanied her. They varied from anger, to concern, to something only a few shades of deeper than puppy-love.
"Slimy, no-good, stars-forsaken varmint!” she hissed as she stalked across the small room that passed for Nya's office. "When I get my hands on him, I'll, I'll." She glared at her companion, "Dammit Corso, what the hell c'n we do ta him?"
"String him up?" the dread-locked man suggested earnestly, and she threw her hands up in exasperation.
"Nah, too good fer him. Need somethin' slow, painful." The rage on her face faded and was replaced by an evil smile, "What we need is some honey, and a nest of fever wasps..."
"Ma'am," Nya tried breaking in and the woman glanced over like she was seeing the Cathar Ranger for the first time.
"Oh glory, don't call me that. Makes me feel like some ol' biddy."
"Miss Devane then," Nya said, brushing a lock of her auburn mane back from her face. "This would go better if you'd explain what was going on. You said someone stole your cantina?"
"Yes!!" she exclaimed, her skirt whirling as she spun and started another pass. "That rotten, lyin'...grrr!" She stopped suddenly and stomped her booted heel. "Yer the law. You gotta do somethin'!"
"Ma', er, Miss Devane, we're Rangers. We conduct investigations, apprehend wanted felons..."
"THAT'S why I need you," she stated emphatically. "Investigate and apprehend my cantina back."
Nya hid her chuckle by shaking her head, then tilted back to exchange a look with her broad-shouldered partner before addressing the woman again. "Don't quite work like that. Why don't you start from the beginning?"
Miss Devane let out a sigh longer than a breeze blowing across the prairie. "Fine. We got a message from our bootlegger…”
“Shawnni…” The warning in Corso’s voice was clear, as was the meaningful nod he aimed at Nya and the burly Cathar standing behind her. The woman caught herself and started again.
“We got a message ‘bout a fresh shipment for my place. Gotta keep the customers happy, ya know.” She winked at Nya and Nya heard a low grumble behind her.
“Anyway, by the time we figured out we’d been euchered and got back, that weasel Skavak was saying the Pearly Gates weren’t mine no more.” For a split second her face threatened to crumble and Nya could see how injured she was at the loss.
Her heart suddenly went out to this fiery woman who was hiding her hurt behind a wall of righteous fury. Even Corso stepped forward, his hand raising to comfort her. But the flash of raw emotion was gone as quick as it came and Miss Devane started pacing again. “He showed me the deed to the building, said he’d won it fair and square. Dunno how that was possible when I had the only copy hidden away. But sure as shootin’, there it was.”
“Did you take it up with the local law enforcement?” Lieutenant Jorgan finally spoke up and Miss Devane rounded on him.
“I tried! Damn Sheriff Tavus tried tellin’ me the whole thing was legit.”
“Tavus!?” Now it was Nya’s turn to hiss and she heard a low growl from Jorgan. To her surprise Miss Devane nodded with approval.
"Sounds like yer familiar with him."
"Familiar with his work," muttered Jorgan. "Let's just say you wouldn't be the first business owner he's intimidated with that shiny badge of his."
"He was one of ours," explained Nya. "Highly decorated, exemplary record. Then one day he up and leaves saying something ‘bout being sick of protecting the wrong people. Problem was his departure coincided with a shipment of firearms that disappeared. Feels like there's a connection but could never prove anything."
"So what if y'all could catch him involved in some shady dealings?" A sly smile curved Miss Devane's full mouth.
"Something tells me you're well acquainted with 'shady dealings'," said Jorgan and the woman just shrugged.
"Dunno who yer thinkin' of. I don’t run no shake shack and anyone on my payroll is well taken' care of. Ain't that right Farmboy?"
She winked again, this time at the dreadlocked man standing close to her, and Nya watched his cheeks flush bright red. "Best boss I ever had," he stated, fixing his brown eyes on Miss Devane and looking as smitten as a kitten. She laughed lightly and sashayed over to Nya.
“Sound like we could help each other. Whatcha say Red?”
“That’s Captain Lanz to you,” growled Jorgan. “Only the best of the best get to be Rangers, and she’s earned a lot better title than ‘Red’.”
“S’okay Jorgan,” said Nya as she stood from her chair and stretched. “Miss Devane has been through the mill, figure we c’n grant her some clemency. ‘Sides she’s got a point, we might be able to help each other.”
Nya brushed the ever-present trail dust from her dungarees and out of habit adjusted her holster before heading over to the woman. It didn’t escape her that Corso’s hand went to his own holster as her hand did, and she made a mental note not to underestimate Miss Devane’s companion. There was a subtle ‘click’ behind her as well and she knew from experience her partner had readied the rifle beside his leg.
Turning slightly, she waved her hand to signal ‘stand down’, then she finished walking to Miss Devane. “We help you get your place back, you help us bust Tavus?”
“Sounds like a deal Red.” For the first time since entering the Ranger’s office the woman looked relaxed and smiled welcomingly at Nya as she extended her hand. “Put ‘er there.”
Relief flashed in the woman’s blue eyes as they met Nya’s - just a lil’ darker than her own ice-blue, noted Nya - and she shook the Ranger’s hand firmly. “When do we vamoose?”
Nya traded another look with her partner. “You should lay-low while Jorgan and I will mouse around. See what information we c’n stir up.”
Miss Devane’s eyes flashed again, but this time the anger was taking over the relief. “Hold up. If you think I’m fixin’ to sit while that four-flushin’, deadbeat manhandles my baby, you woke up the wrong passenger.”
“Now don’t pitch a fit Shawnni.” Corso stepped closer to the seething woman and took her hand gently. “These good folks have agreed to help, and I believe ‘em.”
The soft voice and touch seemed to take the wind from her sails as she settled down a bit. She adjusted her skirts with a sniff and pursed her mouth at Nya. “We have a ranch on the outskirts of Ordsville. Gonna head there and wait to hear from you.” Arching one raven’s-wing brow she looked skeptically at the pair of Cathar. “I don’t wait well.”
“We’ll keep that in mind,” Nya assured her.
With that Miss Devane sashayed out of the office in a swirl of scarlet. Corso stayed just long enough to give Nya a cordial hat-tilt, then bounded after her like a puppy after its master.
The sudden silence boomed through the office and Nya finally gave in to her amusement, chuckling quietly as she perched on the edge of her desk.
“Blazes, that woman has a mouth on her,” said Aric as he walked around the desk to join her, and she shrugged.
“Mostly bluster. Can’t blame her though. Losing a livelihood could make anyone mad as a wet hen.” Nya smiled slyly at her partner. “Sounds like we’re gonna get Tavus finally, though heaven knows how he’s involved with this.”
“Never could figure that man out. Gonna contact Chief Garza?”
“Not yet, let’s make sure this pans out.”
Aric shook his head, “Not sure ‘bout that Nya. Dealing with that woman is one thing, but not telling the Chief…”
Sliding from her desk she sauntered to Aric and ran her hands up his chest to his shoulders. His words cut off when her eyes caught his, just before she captured his mouth with hers. He jolted in surprise, then murmured softly, draping his arms around her waist. It was only after dragging the kiss out long enough to make sure he’d been thoroughly distracted that Nya backed away, meeting his dazed grin with a smirk.
“One day that ain’t gonna work,” he warned her while still smiling.
“Don’t think I’ll quit trying,” she chuckled.
“Please don’t,” he insisted as leaned his forehead to hers, and sighed. “Alright, if we’re gonna do this we should hit the trail. Should make Ordsville by nightfall.”
“Sounds good to me.” She craned up, pressing one more quick kiss to his lips. “Let’s ride Big Guy.”

Shawnni, Jaycen and Essa get this one
Essahad never seen her Aunt Shawnni looking so angry. Sure, she’d beenirritated before with herand Lani’s escapades, but this time the bright blue eyes that usuallyheld an indulgent glow were fierce and snapping.
“Youtwo coulda been seriously hurt,” she lectured. “What were youthinkin’?”
“Wasn’tEss’s fault,” Jayce spoke up and moved closer to her, protectively. “It was myidea to take out the speeder.”
“Jayce, don’t!” she hissed and Shawnni’s gaze swiveled between the pair.
“Don’twhat,” she asked and Essa let out a sigh.
“Hedon’t have to lie for me. I wanted to take the speeder out,Jayce tried to stop me.”
“Hedid, huh?”
Shawnnilooked over at her son who was fidgeting under the intense stare, then folded her arms and looked at Essa. “Young lady, you realizeI’m responsible for you while your folks….” The dark-haired womangrimaced, putting her hands on her hips and shaking her head. “Dagblast it! Now you got me soundin’ like an adult. Stars I hate that.”
Shelet out another sigh and stepped closer to the younglings, hereyebrows raising when Jayce moved even closer to Essa and took theCathar’s hand. “You tried to stop her Jayce?” she asked and hestarted blushing.
“YesMa'am.”
“Sowhy didn’t you come get me?”
“'Cause….”His eyes fell to his toes and he mumbled something.
“Sayagain?”
“'CauseI hoped…” he started again. “'Cause I wanted to make sure…”
“Youwere makin’ sure she wouldn’t get hurt,” Shawnni finished for himand his eyes darted to Essa. She squeezed his hand and his brown eyesflickered into her amber ones.
“YesMa'am.”
Shawnnishook her head again, covering her face with one hand and Essathought her shoulders were quivering with laughter. When sheuncovered her face her expression was still stern, but her blue eyes danced with humor. “Now I don’t wanna hear ‘bout you doin’something like this again,” she said, then muttered, “But Iprobably will.”
Stridingto the pair she surprised them both by pulling them into a hug andruffling their hair. “Jus’ try to keep my worrying to a minimum, deal?”
“Deal!”the pair exclaimed, hugging her back.

Aric *grumble*: I can’t believe this.
Nya: What? That we’re dressed to the nines, playing dejarik in the middle of the Taris swamp?
Aric: Nope. I can’t believe you haven’t used your Savrip to take out her Houjix. Didn’t I teach you better than that Hotshot?

"why is there glitter everywhere?"
*rubs hands together* Ok, so it was kinda obvious where this was going, and that Shawnni was involved….
“What the KRIFF!?!”
Nya sat up on the Spitfire’s couch at Aric’s low bellow, wondering why her vision was obscured by a rainbow of steamers. After two clumsy tries, she managed to push most of the bright ribbons from her face and blinked bleary eyes at the scowling Cathar.
“Wasss… gah!” Her breath tasted rancid and she smacked her lips, looking around for something to drink. Half-empty glasses littered the table along with a large platter covered with scraps of cake. She managed a small smile as she remembered the automatically correct masterpiece and snatched up a bite to soothe her abused taste-buds. Aric still looked appalled, his gaze surveying the mess and the sprawled bodies passed out on make-shift pallets.
“What’s going on here? Who are these people?” He stepped closer and grimaced as his boot made a squelching sound. “I don’t know how many regulations you broke, and why is there glitter everywhere?”
“Great stars Fuzzy!! You always this loud in the morning?” Shawnni’s voice emerged from under a lump of coats on the other couch, muffled but miffed. “We were jus’ showin’ Red a good time for her birthday.”
“Her birthday?” Surprise replaced his irritation and he looked at Nya as if seeking confirmation. “That’s not until next week though, right?”
“Shawnni and some friends decided I should celebrate early.” She got up and winced as she stretched aching muscles. A shake of her mane sent a flurry of glitter to the floor, sparkling brightly against the dull durasteel and Aric sighed heavily, shaking his head.
“Just clear everyone out of here. I’ll make sure it gets cleaned up.”
“Whoa, did I hear that right?” This time Shawnni sat up, making a show of cleaning her ears. “Fuzzybutt’s actually being civil.”
“I’m allowed to be nice from time to time,” he grumbled, then drew his hand down his face. “I’ll go back to my bunk for the next thirty, then get this place taken care of.” He patted Nya on the shoulder gave her a wry smile. “Think of it as part of your birthday gift.”
With a brisk spin he headed back to the crew quarters and there was a soft ‘whoosh’ as the door shut.
Nya traded a disbelieving look with Shawnni, then started rousing anyone still dozing. “That went better than expected,” she muttered to the smuggler as they picked up some of the more damning evidence and shooed people off the ship.
“Got me there,” Shawnni agreed. “Who’da thought Fuzzy wouldn’t pitch a bitch fit.” Suddenly she froze and she smiled evilly, “Think we should tell him ‘bout the strippers?”
“Oh stars no,” Nya laughed. “He finds out about them and I might not make it to my next birthday.”

New Nexu Friends
Last night Nya adopted these beauties, a mama Nexu and her cub(in-game that’s the Nathema Beast and the Experimental Nexu). It looks like she rescued them from some lab, after tearing whoever ran the place a new one. They still need names(taking suggestions for that ;D), but are already very protective of their new mistress.
Nya’s pal Shawnni( @shimmer-like-agirl ) is still questioning the wisdom of having such a large, toothy companion whose eyes glow like headlights, but she couldn’t dispute how devoted they are to Nya.
Guess Nya has a gift for charming big, angry-looking things >~,^<

Two for the Show...
Finally wrote up how my Cathar cutie Nya and @shimmer-like-agirl‘s sassy smuggler Shawnni met and became friends. Takes place before the girls and their fellas cemented their romances, and based on the ‘Fall of the Locust’ heroic on Taris where the girls really did meet and team up for the first time. Settle in, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride >~,^<
Nya knew Jorgan wasn't happy - that was par for the course - but he was going to start driving her crazy if he didn't stop tapping impatiently on his rifle. “They're helping us whether you like it or not Jorgan,” she informed him.
“Civilians. We're being assisted by civilians.”
He acted like Nya had told him to go lick a bantha's behind, the way he spat out the word, and she was tempted to if he didn't lose the attitude. “From what the captain tells me they're used to this kinda thing. In fact Devane said the last job she had...”
“Job?” Disgust was replaced by shock, “Don't tell me you hired mercs.”
“They're mercs, but I didn't hire them.” Didn't need to, Nya thought, Governor Saresh had already taken care of that.
Turns out the local Governor was so desperate to retrieve her missing security agent that she'd asked for assistance from anybody; now the standard extraction mission was open to any laser-brain with a blaster. So when Nya was in the cantina and overheard the smuggler mention 'the Locust', her instincts insisted she suggest teaming up. The sooner they got the agent out of there, the less civilians would be tempted to jump in half-cocked.
“This one might be a challenge, even for us. And better to have freelancers,” she assured him. “The less officers involved, the less chance of people finding out what happened with Tavus.”
“Still don't like it Blaze.”
“Not asking you to like it Jorgan,” she grumbled. “Just follow orders.”
“But asking civilians for help? Either they're going to get shot or get us shot.”
Nya puffed an exasperated breath upwards, raking her claws through her auburn mane. “You know, Dorne would probably be just fine with this. I can comm her to help. Meanwhile Spitfire's latrine could always use a good scrubbing.”
“Dorne?” He looked appalled, but she had a feeling it had more to do with the threat of latrine duty than the suggestion that she pull their new squad-mate for this task.
“Sure. I don't think she'd argue with me this much.”
He folded his arms and sighed. “In that case I'd better accompany you for this mission. I'm more familiar with your... tactics.”
“Ya know, the way you two bicker you sound like some ol' married couple.”
The playful words had the quarreling Cathar whipping around and Nya's rebuttal died on her lips when she saw a raven-haired woman closely followed by a taller man with tied-back dreadlocks. She could feel disapproval radiating from Aric, with a flowing red trench-coat and superior expression the smuggler looked the very embodiment of devil-may-care.
“Glad to see you could join the party Devane,” she said as she walked forward to shake the woman's hand.
“Glad to be invited,” the woman replied, “And didn't I tell ya to call me Shawnni?”
“Didn't I say be here twenty minutes ago?” Nya teased and both ladies laughed.
“Well I would've if Corso could'a picked a blaster sooner. Think he settled on Sgt. Boom-Boom.”
“Sgt. Boom-Boom? Seriously?” Nya clasped one hand over her mouth to muffle her laughter, while Shawnni's companion gave her an irritated look.
“Yup, he's got the all the muscle we need.” He patted the hefty looking blaster proudly, “Now this here is R-406 Heavy Sonic Disrupter. All original 'cept for a couple'a my own modifications.”
Nya caught Shawnni rolling her eyes and wondered how many times the captain had heard all about Sgt. Boom-Boom. Then the man looked down at the cannon in Nya's arms and whistled appreciatively. “Say now, she's a beaut. That one of the GT series?”
“You know your gear,” she replied, impressed that he recognized it. “GT-27, with a custom crystal.”
“Don't that affect the suspension field?”
“Had it reinforced, alusteel instead of trimantium.” She grinned as she stroked the cannon's stock. “I call her Big Mama.”
He let out another whistle and returned her grin. “Damn Captain, think I'm gonna like this one.” Thrusting out his hand he took hers and shook vigorously, “Sorry 'bout my lack of manners Ma'am, we ain't been properly introduced. Corso Riggs, pleasure to meet you.”
“Likewise Riggs. First-Lieutenant Lanz,” She nodded at the reluctant Cathar behind her, “Speaking of manners, come meet our new partners Jorgan.”
“Temporary partners,” he muttered then stepped forward. “Sergeant Jorgan, Havoc Squad.” He gave Shawnni and Riggs a level look as he stood beside Nya. “Just so you know, I don't approve of civilians on missions like these. In my experience they tend to be more underfoot than useful.”
Corso bristled at the blunt words, but Shawnni just raised an eyebrow at the broad-shouldered Cathar. “Appreciate your candor Sergeant, but sounds like Red here is callin' the shots.” A slow smirk curved her full mouth, “'Course, there's always latrine duty if you don't wanna come.”
Nya heard Aric growl quietly and glided between him and the smuggler. “Save it people. There's better targets than each other, right?” She laid a warning hand on Aric's chestplate, “Right, Jorgan?”
He let out a small huff and nodded. Meanwhile it didn't escape Nya that Corso had stepped close to Shawnni.
“You know Captain, you don't need to go pickin' fights with the angriest lookin' thing you see.”
“Aww, no worries Farmboy. I got a feeling Red keeps him in line.” The brunette gave him a sultry smile, “'Sides, I betcha you could take him.”
To Nya's surprise Corso ducked his head and his cheeks flushed. “'Preciate the vote of confidence, but I'd rather not have to.”
“Fair enough,” she said lightly, then straightened her coat. “Well, that agent ain't gonna rescue herself. Whatcha say we get a move on?”
“I have a bad feeling about this,” grumbled Aric as they headed to the speeders and Nya patted his arm.
“Don't worry Jorgan. We've got this.”
____________________________________________
Getting to the compound wasn't too rough, Shawnni had enlisted some sort of stealth generator to skulk past the Locust's camp with Corso while Nya and Aric relied on their more mundane trooper training. Turned out the real fight was in the compound. The twisting tunnels were crawling with scavengers, and the Locust had prepared his men with turret blasters and a small brigade's worth of arms. Nya was thankful again that she'd enlisted the extra help as they powered through, and reminded herself that she'd owed Aric a big, fat 'I told you so'.
“On your right Devane,” Nya hollered as another scavenger rushed the smuggler.
The woman lashed out a blaster, firing in rapid succession, but the cutthroat's armor deflected the shots. She held her ground as he hurtled towards her and Nya was tempted to shoot the attacker. Suddenly Shawnni's boot flew forward, catching the scavenger square in the groin.
A groan from Aric vibrated Nya's earpiece as the assailant keeled over and Shawnni popped two quick shots into his skull. “And I thought your tactics were unconventional,” he muttered and Nya chuckled.
“See, I'm not that bad to deal with after all.” Ducking beneath the rounds, she dove behind the small energy shield Shawnni had created while Aric stayed back, protected by a stack of crates. “Alright, buddy moving. Cover me Jorgan.”
“Dammit Blaze there has to be a dozen of them.”
“So kill 'em for me Jorgan,” Nya chuckled again. “What are you good for?”
She heard another low grumble, but one, two, then three scavengers fell, picked off by Aric's rifle. The diversion allowed Nya to pull free a cryo grenade and lob it at the remaining cutthroats. It sent a spray of supercooled chemicals over the scavengers, freezing them in place, and she looked at Shawnni who gave her a quick grin.
“Gotcha one better,” she said, then tossed a grenade of her own. It detonated almost as soon as it touched ground, sending out a concussive wave that shattered the iced scavengers.
“Nice touch,” said Nya. “Any chance I can get a few of those?”
“We'll negotiate a trade when we wrap this up,” replied Shawnni, then she looked around. “Now where the blazes is...?”
A rowdy whoop filled the air and Nya raised her head in time to see Corso barreling up to one of the turrets. “Your man's gonna get himself killed,” she chuckled and Shawnni shook her head.
“Not if I can help it.”
The smuggler sprang up, unloading her blasters on the same turret, but the shielding seemed too resilient. Nya swung Big Mama free, shouting “Duck!”.
As soon as Shawnni yanked Corso to the ground Nya unleashed several plasma rounds into the turret. The base exploded in a hail of shrapnel as it collapsed on itself, the scavenger manning it hanging limp in his seat. With the sounds of battle silenced she turned around to check if there were any more scavengers. It seemed like they'd cleared the way, for now.
“You two okay?” she asked, slinging Big Mama back over her shoulder as the couple stood and brushed the dirt from their clothes.
“Now why'd ya have to go and do that?” Shawnni pouted at the Cathar, “Me and Farmboy had it.”
“It almost had you,” Nya gave her a toothy grin. “But next time I'll let you prove me wrong.”
“Good,” said Shawnni, then she pointed behind Nya. “Look out!”
A heavy hand landed on Nya's shoulder and she spun away, raising her blaster, then sighed when she saw Jorgan scowling at Shawnni. “Trying to get me shot Devane,” he grumbled while the smuggler smirked at him.
“Sorry, just in the habit of shooting anything that looks big and scary, and you...”
Her words were cut off as Corso placed his hand tactfully over her mouth and chuckled, “Sorry Jorgan.”
Aric acknowledged the apology with a shrug, then examined Nya with a critical eye. “Good show out there, Hotshot,” he murmured. “You holding up?”
“Nothing Havoc can't handle Big Guy. Looks like we've cleared a path, let's keep moving.”
“Roger Hotshot, just watch your step.”
Nya slipped her blaster back in its holster and readied Big Mama in case there were more surprises up ahead. She lifted her chin at Shawnni who nodded, but looked over at the larger Cathar curiously. Stepping forward, Nya noticed Corso took point with her, but oddly enough Shawnni fell in step with Aric.
“Got a soft spot for Red?” The smuggler asked, then snickered, “Or is that a hard spot.”
“It's not... I'm not...” he muttered, then let out a frustrated noise. “She's my CO, I'm supposed to watch her back.”
“Maybe,” she allowed. “But I'm wondering if it's 'cause you like the view.” Nya heard another groan from Aric and shook her head.
She quickened her pace and Corso sped up too, swiveling Sgt. Boom-Boom from side to side expertly. “What branch?” she asked quietly and he looked confused for a minute, then shrugged.
“Peace Brigade.”
Nya nodded, familiar with the civilian armed force. “Ever think of joining the real military?”
“Not for me Ma'am,” he quirked a quick smile at her, “Done enough fighting for others.”
“So what do you fight for now?”
His tanned cheeks flushed bright pink and when he shot an involuntary glance back Nya knew what fueled his battles. She smiled gently, pressing her finger to her mouth and he smiled back gratefully. Suddenly the sound of voices had Nya's ears perking up.
“Look lively people,” she murmured just loud enough to resonate through her mouthpiece.
Her movements grew more deliberate and Corso slowed to match her. Leaning in he whispered, “Don't hear nothin'.”
“'Cause you don't have these,” she chuckled, tracing the edge of her larger, pointed ear and he chuckled back.
“Got me there.”
The murmurs grew louder and Nya moved to the wall, sidling along it until she could peek around the corner. She was surprised to see a computer terminal filling one wall, guarded by a massive Trandoshan, and several cells nearby sealed off by force-fields. “Betcha that terminal controls the fields,” she whispered to Corso. “Just gotta get past big scaly.”
“Leave it ta me,” he replied, and before she could stop him he ran out from behind the corner yelling, “Hey Ugly!” The large lizard turned and started shooting at Corso, who hooted and dove behind a pile of sandbags. Popping up for an instant, he fired rapidly until Sgt. Boom-Boom made a loud 'CLICK!' and went silent.
Misfire! thought Nya, and she dashed from behind her cover into view of the Trandoshan. Letting out a shrill whistle, she drew its attention then ducked back, listening to blasts strike the wall close to her.
As soon as they paused she peeked out again, and saw the Trandoshan swinging its blaster from the sand-bags to her corner as if unsure where to concentrate its fire. Approaching bootsteps had her glancing back, then sighing when she saw it was just Shawnni and Aric catching up.
“Cover me!” she barked.
Sprinting out, she kept her blaster trained on the Trandoshan, laying down a suppressive fire. Her sudden aggressiveness had it focusing on her, but two quick tuck-and-rolls had her almost at its feet, closed enough to hear rifle rounds ricocheting off of its heavy armor. A sharp bounce up and she was able to knock the blaster from its claw with a kick, then it jerked back, a hole appearing between its eyes.
“We got 'em!” Shawnni shouted as the Trandoshan crumpled to the ground and Aric huffed.
“I got him,” the Cathar corrected. “That's my round in his brain.”
The smuggler gave him a cross look, seeming ready to deliver a stinging barb, but a groan from Corso had her mouth snapping shut as she rushed to him. “You alright Farmboy?”
“Eh, he winged me is all,” Corso groaned again as he lifted himself and Shawnni's hands fluttered over his shoulder where blood seeped from between his armor plates.
“This should help.”
Nya snatched a kolto pack from her belt and was about to administer it when Shawnni's rich blue eyes met hers, filled with concern. She handed over the pack letting the smuggler administer the cool green gel, and relief flashed across the smuggler's face as she teased him, “Can't be leavin' me yet Farmboy. Ain't caught that varmint Skavak.”
“Don't you worry Captain. I ain't goin' nowhere.”
While Shawnni tended to Corso Nya walked to the terminal. It didn't take long to find the sequence that disabled the force-field, which dropped with a loud hum. The source of the voices she'd heard earlier became clear when she spotted people occupying the bunk-beds in the cell. Still wary, she headed into the cell, then recognized Amillie from the holos preparing her for the mission as blue female twi'lek stood to greet her.
“You aren't a guard,” she said in Huttese, then looked past Nya to the body of the Trandoshan and nodded. “I wasn't sure my message got out... this is perfect. We have to finish the mission. We have to capture the Locust alive.”
Alive?! That was news to Nya. “Republic Specforce, ma'am. Slow down and start over.”
“We came here to capture the Locust – probably the galaxy's biggest scavenger. He uses a legion of droids to strip whole planets clean.” She started pacing, her lekku shaking in agitation. “Stopping the scumbag is important, but the real goal is to get control of those droids. 'Advanced' doesn't even start to describe them. The Republic could repurpose those droids for something useful – maybe even use them to help here on Taris. But only if we can convince the Locust to hand over control.”
“What's your plan for making that happen?” asked Shawnni and Amillie smiled.
“Judging by the explosions, you've made sure the Locust won't be leaving us – all we have to do is find him.”
Artillery boomed down the corridors and Amillie darted to a large conex just outside of the cell, glancing around the the corner. Nya and Shawnni exchanged a look, acknowledging that their presence hadn't gone unnoticed. “Guess we found him,” Shawnni muttered, and Nya nodded in agreement as Amillie ran back.
“Blast! All right, new plan: we make a diversion, you go for the Locust. He won't go down easy, but if anyone can take him, it's you.”
Leaving Nya no time to object Amillie signaled for her men to follow her and they ran to the other side of the conex, sliding through a gap between it and the wall. Shawnni drew her blasters looking all business as she gave Corso a solid nod.
“Stay with Amillie,” she ordered. “Who knows what kinda hornet's nest they're gonna pull down on themselves.”
He appeared reluctant, but nodded back before following the twi'lek. Aric tilted his head at Corso then glanced at Nya and she nodded as well. “Go, cover them. They may need help.”
“I should go with you,” he objected as he took a step towards her, but she held up her hand.
“They don't have any weapons, I do. 'Sides I'm trained for this, right.” She gave him a reassuring smile, but he still didn't seem convinced. “Look, civilians first. Once they're clear come back me up.”
“I should... just...” Disapproval still furrowed his brow, but instead of protesting further he groaned and he rubbed his hand down his face. “Just watch yourself, alright Hotshot?”
“Always do Big Guy.”
With time of the essence she sprinted to Shawnni who raised her eyebrows at the Cathar, and as Nya neared the metal container, she could feel the smuggler's eyes bearing down on her.
“You and Sergeant Grumpy, something there?”
Nya glanced back, tempted to fob off the smuggler. But her gut told her that'd only make the woman more persistent so she shrugged, “Ancient history.”
She wasn't sure what the smuggler saw, but something resembling sympathy flashed in the dark blue eyes. Still, she didn't push the issue, simply shrugging back as they both crept to the edge of the conex. Weapons at the ready, Nya heard Shawnni grumble, “Man's an idiot.”
She half-turned, her lip twitching as she peered at the woman, “I know that, but what makes you say it?”
“Anyone can see you're a catch Red,” Shawnni chuckled and Nya chuckled back.
“You too Devane.” They shared a smile before the stomping of boots drew their attention back to the corridor, then the grins vanished as if wiped clean.
Nya kept her breathing slow and steady, closing her eyes and listening. A whole squad of them, she thought, listening to the rustling bodies and thudding steps. No jostling, spread out for maximum coverage, these guys were pros. The steps grew closer, slower, more careful, the scavengers no doubt aware that something was amiss.
Suddenly there was loud scurrying and clapping. “Hey! We're over here, you junk-eating sons of slugs!” shouted Amillie. There were more rapid footsteps, this time moving away from Nya and Shawnni's position, and the ladies emerged from around the corner ready to fight.
A few guards remained behind, along with a towering Gen'dai and Nya rushed in, firing on them. Her shots rebounded off their heavier armor, but heavier armor meant less maneuverability, so she concentrated on diving between the men, yanking or pushing them off-balance. In the confusion their return fire was erratic, at times grazing each other.
Shouts and shots bounced off the stone walls, adding to the chaos, and Nya smiled as she managed to shove one guard into another, letting them knock themselves to the ground. Shawnni jumped into the fray, picking up on Nya's tactics with lightning speed. The smuggler definitely knew her way around a fight, her strikes short and to the point, her shots fast but methodical.
The Gen'dai stood back, watching his men getting attacked, but Nya wasn't surprised that he let his men take the brunt of the assault. Raising her blaster she aimed at him, and one of the guards lifted his rifle, thwacking her hand. The sudden throb in her wrist had her eyes watering as her weapon skittered across the floor, but she whirled around, anger fueling her movement as she rammed her other fist into the bridge of his nose, dropping him like a rock.
“Duck Red!” Shawnni called out and Nya crouched as something whooshed over her head. Staying low she slashed out with her claws, shredding the pants and shin of the guard who'd swung at her. His howl of pain rang through the air but he didn't fall, and when Nya looked up he was pointing his blaster at her.
“Ah don't think so!” The enthusiastic cry came only a split-second before a blur of armor and dread-locks crashed into the guard flattening him; back-up had arrived. Apparently Corso's injury didn't hinder him too much as he body-checked another guard who'd taken aim at Shawnni, and the smuggler graced him with a quick smile.
“Taking the shot!” The low bellow had Nya freezing in place as a rifle round pierced the throat of a nearby guard, and he collapsed in a heap.
Nya dove for her blaster, scooping it up and surveyed the scene as she stood. The guards were decimated while the Locust seemed amused, appraising the bodies scattered across the floor. Corso had moved over to Shawnni, staying close as the smuggler sauntered up to the Gen'dai.
“You know how you get a picture of someone in your head,” she quipped. “Never matches up when you meet them, does it?”
A low growl came from the tall alien as he raised his blaster, but it fell suddenly and he bellowed in pain. Grasping his side, Nya could see blood dripping down his armor and heard the familiar steps of Aric striding up beside her, his rifle trained on the Locust. “Target neutralized,” he stated, no small measure of pride in his voice.
“No, I do not die here,” the Locust's gravely voice rasped. “Not like this.”
“We're here to arrest, not execute,” Amillie spoke up. “And if you're willing to cooperate, we can offer a lot more than just a jail cell. The Republic wants to put your droids to work developing settlements, instead of tearing them down. Make it happen, and you'll get full profit sharing and a reduced sentence.”
Profit sharing? Reduced sentence? The whole thing sounded too bureaucratic to Nya. Her eyes wandered to Shawnni, noting the smuggler looked as skeptical as she felt. It seemed like a sinking situation, especially when the Locust glared at Amillie, his amber eyes gleaming balefully.
“This 'offer' is gilded chains. I am the Locust.”
Amillie looked back at her men, then Nya. There was a desperation in the twi'lek's eyes, and Nya sighed in resignation, knowing how she could help.
She turned her thoughts inward, looking for a part of herself she seldom sought out, a part she usually denied she had. Once she found it she concentrated on it, then sent out a silent call directed at the Locust. His gaze turned to her, the amber depths uncertain then glazing slightly as she mentally nudged him. “You could become a powerful and respected ally of the Republic, instead of a hated pirate,” she said, trying to sound as compelling as possible.
“Besides, we can protect you from the relatives of the people you enslaved,” said Amillie and he finally nodded.
“Fine. Shall be your 'ally'. But to get my men under control... much time. Fighting may take long to stop.” His words were stilted, then he shook his head and his eyes cleared as they narrowed at Nya. “You were worthy opponents. I fail, but remain strong.”
“Whatever floats your speeder,” snarked Shawnni. He shot her a quick scowl, then allowed himself to be led off by Amillie's men.
“Taris is saved. A galaxy-wide threat ended for good. None of it would have been possible with out you,” said Amillie, as she approached Nya and Shawnni. “I'll make sure the bounty on the Locust gets sent your way – plus a little extra from me and my team. We owe you our lives.”
The twi'lek let out a huge sigh, relief pouring from her, “Now, it's time we escorted our new 'ally' back to civilization. Thanks again – take care.”
As Amillie walked off, Corso clasped Shawnni by the shoulder and gave her a friendly shake. “Hear that Captain, we ended another 'galaxy-wide threat'.”
“Keep this up and we might have to raise our rates,” she chortled.
“So this is a regular thing for you two?” Aric's voice dripped sarcasm and Shawnni snorted.
“Nah, just in the habit of being in the wrong place at the right time... hey Red, you okay?”
Nya picked through the debris of the battle, shaking her head at the waste of life, and cradling her injured wrist to her chest. With her adrenaline waning she ready to find a med-droid and a stiff drink. “Yeah, Devane,” she grimaced, hearing the pain in her voice and cleared her throat. “Yeah, I'm fine.”
“Stubborn does not equal fine,” grumbled Aric. He strode to her, reaching out expectantly, and with a sigh she placed her wrist in his waiting hand. His thumb gently palpated the swollen area, and she bit back a hiss of pain as he clucked his tongue. “Not broken, but definitely took a beating,” he murmured, then gave her a teasing smile. “Didn't I say something about watching yourself?”
“I watched it get hit,” she chuckled weakly and he shook his head.
“If that were true, you'd have avoided it better.”
Out of habit he pulled loose a plate on her upper arm, injecting a pain stim, and she glanced at Shawnni. The smuggler's eyes flashed with glee and Nya shot her a withering look.
“So,” Shawnni sauntered over to the Cathar pair and draped her arm over Nya's shoulder. “Dunno 'bout you guys but after a job like that we usually catch a drink at the closest cantina. Whatcha say Red? Maybe even treat me and Farmboy to a round since we were so helpful?”
Despite the pain in her wrist and the disparaging eyeroll from Aric, Nya found herself nodding at Shawnni, “Sounds alright Devane.” She gave Aric a pointed look, “Hey, admit it. They were helpful, weren't they?”
“Fine, they were helpful,” he conceded. “Still think you should visit the med-bay before gallivanting off...”
“Oh lighten up Fuzzy, let the woman unwind,” chided Shawnni as she led Nya away with a wink. The larger Cathar's eyes widened and he groaned, then turned to Corso who gave him a empathetic shrug and smile.
“So Red, you know any cantinas 'round here that aren't total testicle festivals?”
“Gotcha covered Devane,” Nya laughed. “Lil' spot I found with strong drinks and constant huttball coverage.”
“Hutball? Never was a fan,” snorted Shawnni and Nya shook her head.
“Sacrilege, anyone can enjoy huttball. Just need some cold drinks, hot grub, and the ability to yell obscenities at a holo.”
“That I can do.”
The ladies chuckled together, strolling through the corridors, and Shawnni gave Nya an affectionate jostle. “Ya know Red, smooth as this went, think we should do it again sometime.”
Nya bumped her back with a smile. “You read my mind Devane.”

Just a drabble about karaoke night with Nya and @shimmer-like-agirl‘s Shawnni, plus their fellas. Nya would totally have a blast with Meghan Trainor’s ‘Me Too’ >^,^<
“So whatcha got planned Jorgan?”
Aric paid his cover charge to the hefty cyborg bouncer manning the cantina's door, then looked at Corso with a snort of derision. “Thought this was a casual night. A few drinks, relaxing.”
The gleam of amusement in the other man's eyes didn't bode well, especially when he shook his head with a laugh. “Shoot, son, you don't know? We're stretchin' the pipes tonight.”
“Singing?”
“Yup, every now an' then Shawnni get the urge to belt out a few in front of an audience.” He clasped Aric's shoulder and shrugged. “Looks like she roped Nya in too.”
Couldn't say he was much for singing, but neither was Nya, he thought as they picked they're way through the crowd.
“I thank Gods every day, that I woke up feeling this way...”
Aric jerked, not knowing what surprised him more; the familiar lyrics or the voice singing them. Glancing at the small stage only confirmed his suspicion. Nya was up there, grinning from ear to ear as she sang a song he'd heard playing from her quarters frequently.
“If I were you I'd wanna be me too, I'd wanna be me too, I'd wanna be me too...”
Shawnni was easy to spot at a front table, whooping and clapping for the sexy Cathar. She half-turned as if sensing them and smiled wide when she saw Corso. “Get over here fellas.”
Aric shook his head, noting the slight glaze in her eyes and several shot glasses littering the table, but Corso just sailed over and leaned in for a thorough kiss.
“Miss anything?” he asked and she pouted heavily.
“Someone done sung our song already, but I found a back-up.” She turned to Aric with a broad smirk, “Ol' Red's really tearing it up, got herself some fans.”
He picked up one of the glasses and winced as he sniffed the dregs in the bottom. “What have you been drinking?”
“Oh, somethin' called 'Huttslayers'. Sweet, but guaranteed to knock you on your ass.”
That would explain it, the stuff in their glasses smelled like it had enough octane to fuel the Spitfire. Not that you could tell by watching Nya strutting across the stage. She moved with feline grace and confidence... and looked like she was loving every minute.
“I walk in like a dime piece. I go straight to VIP. I never pay for my drinks, my entourage behind me...”
She pointed at Shawnni who started hooting again and she wasn't the only one. Several guys were jostling each other at the front of the stage, eyes glued to Nya. He couldn't blame them, her lithe form flowed across the stage like she owned it. He barely noticed when Corso handed him an ale, draining half the bottle in one swig as he watched her.
“I thank Gods every day, that I woke up feeling this way. I can't help lovin' myself, and I don't need nobody else.”
Now some of the crowd was joining in and Nya was bopping around the stage gracefully. Her pale blue top fluttered around her shoulders - something shimmery he hadn't seen before - and the lights lit up her mane like flames.
“Real star, ain't she?” Shawnni teased and he nodded silently, then polished off his ale and headed for the stage.
“If I was you I'd wanna be me too, I'd wanna be me too, I'd wanna be me too...”
With the crowd he couldn't make it to the front, but thought he caught her eye when she flashed a grin in his direction. The song died down but the audience was still wound up, applause ringing loudly through the room. The group of guys beckoned for her to join them as soon as the music stopped, and she gave them a small wave then headed off stage and back towards the table.
“Hey Hotshot!” he called out and her head snapped up, her grin widening as he strode to her.
“Hey Big Guy, what...?”
His mouth flew to hers, seeking her lips as his hands swooped around her waist. She murmured inquisitively, then threw herself into his embrace and he could taste the burn of alcohol as her tongue glided across his. There were several soft groans from the group of admirers and she giggled softly against his mouth.
“So what was that all about?” she purred when he finally backed away and they drifted to the table to sit down.
“An apology. Sorry Corso and I were running late.”
“Riiiight,” she chuckled. “Nothing at all to do with wantin' folks to know I've got someone?”
“Well...”
Her astute observation had him glancing down in chagrin, but he felt her finger under his jaw as she raised his face to smile into his eyes, smoothing a soft kiss to his lips.
“Hey, hey, hey,” Shawnni laughed as she reached over and gently slugged Nya. “Thought you 'don't need nobody else'?”
“Don't,” Nya retorted, “But wanting someone is totally different.”

So since Nya and @shimmer-like-agirl’s Shawnni are besties, it makes sense for their offspring to be practically siblings…
—————————–
‘It’s not fair, she can’t go,’ Essa thought sullenly as she ran into the barn and startled a flock of peepers into flight. Artie -  her akk dog pup - followed closely at her heels, even as she dove into a pile of straw. He snuffled at her and she hugged him tightly, nestling deeper into the heap. “Sorry Artie,” she apologized to her pup. “I know you were havin’ fun, but I just couldn’t stand around smilin’ when stars know when we’ll see Tilly again.”
The Cathar kit still remembered the look on her Mama’s face when Tilly started showing off her abilities, lifting toys and spinning them playfully. Mama’d pat Tilly’s head, saying how proud she was, how special such skills are. There was pride in their Mama’s eyes - that was for sure - but sadness too, like she was losing something. Essa didn’t recognize it at first, not until it hit her that her twin sister would be going away to hone skills she had no hope of understanding.
The last straw was at the farewell party, watching Auntie Shawnni and Papa try to cheer up Mama. “First Kirrin, now our daughter?” she’d said, sounding close to tears.
Papa had instantly wrapped his arms around her. “It’s okay Hotshot. She’s in good hands. Kirrin will take care of her.”
Essa had never seen her mother look so sad, even Auntie Shawnni couldn’t coax a smile from her.  It was too much and Essa had to go find someplace quiet. The barn on the Devane-Riggs homestead seemed perfect.
The pile of straw was scratchy but the smell comforted Essa. She could hear the shuffling of a nerf in the nearby stall and watched dust motes twist in the beam of sunlight peeking through a window. Closing her eyes, her mind drifted until it felt like she’d left her body and was floating above herself. She could see a pale green nimbus around the slowly moving nerf, and brighter orange around Artie that snapped with frenetic energy.
“Oop, think I spotted her.”
And just like that her peace was shattered by Lani’s boisterous voice and she sank back into her body. She briefly wondered if she could burrow further into the bedding but it was too late. Lani’s face popped in her line of sight, her smile only slightly tempered by the gleam of concern in her eyes.
“Now whatcha doin’ hidin’ in here?” The dark-tanned girl plopped in the straw next to her, making Artie scramble to Essa’s other side. “Don'tcha wanna see Tilly off?”
“No,” said Essa flatly and she hugged Artie again. “Don’t see why you throw a party when someone’s leaving. Almos’ like you’re happy they’re going away.”
“Ain’t like that at all.”
Jayce’s soothing voice only preceded him by a few seconds before he flopped on her other side. His hand found hers right away and out of habit she leaned into him with Artie snuggling into the groove between their bodies.
“It’s for the best Ess. This way she can learn control.” Lani sounded downright practical, but that wasn’t too surprising. The older girl was the self-proclaimed ringleader when they all got together, but her normally bossy nature was currently subdued as she gently stroked back Essa’s short auburn mane.
“And she’ll be with your uncle,” Jayce reminded her, leaning his head against her shoulder.
“It’s the only way Mama would let her go,” Essa chuckled bitterly. “Don’t mean she’s happy ‘bout it.”
At least Mama had lectured Uncle Kirrin thoroughly, using threats that Essa didn’t quite understand, but made her giggle nonetheless. But thinking about her Uncle and Mama just reminded her of why she was hiding in the first place.
A sob clogged her throat and she tried smothering it, but her observant friends still heard and a flurry of arms surrounded her. They hugged in the near-silence of the barn and she stopped trying to hide the soft sounds of her crying. She didn’t how long they stayed there, just that eventually she started feeling less miserable. Lani backed off a little but Jayce remained close, his arms even tightening a bit.
“We’ll all miss Tilly, but you still got us,” stated Lani as she reached over and patted Artie. “We’re almos’ like sibs.”
“Pretty darn close,” admitted Essa and she giggled weakly, thinking about some of the adventures - or trouble as her Papa had called it - she’d gotten into with Lani and Jayce.
“So buck up! There’s a table of goodies out there, waitin’ to be demolished.”
At the word ‘goodie’ Artie jumped from the pile of straw and scampered in excited circles. Lani joined him, hopping up and egging on the green and yellow reptomammal. Jayce stood more slowly, as if reluctant to get up, then reached out a hand to help her.
“It’ll be okay Ess.” He smiled as he plucked pieces of straw from her mane. “Jus’ remember we’re here for ya.”
“Better believe that,” exclaimed Lani. “Now lets get some grub before Kit eats it all. Heard Mama say we might go swimmin’ later.”
“That sounds great,” said Essa. “Brought my new suit.”
“Bet Jayce can’t wait to see that, right Jayce?” teased Lani, and under his dark tan Essa could see the boy’s cheeks turning red.
“Who me? Dunno what you mean,” he said, then raised his head. “Oh! Think I hear Mama callin’.”
He strode off quickly with Artie trotting behind him, and Lani threw her arm over Essa’s shoulders to lead her back. “You really doin’ better then?” she asked and Essa gave her a small nod. “Good. Like Jayce said, we’re here for ya, always.”
“Here for you too,” promised Essa.

5.hands on the other person’s back, fingertips pressing under their top, drawing gentle circles against that small strip of bare skin that make them break the kiss with a gasp - your choice! (Small strip of fur works too)
Thanks for the prompt! Pulling out a new couple for this one… @shimmer-like-agirl and I have been match-making with Nya and Aric’s daughter Essa and Shawnni and Corso’s boy Jaycen ~,^
Her jaw going slack in shock, Essa could only stare at Jaycen as he dropped his bombshell during their walk around his family’s homestead.
“You’re a kriffin’ idiot!” she snapped when her power of speech returned, and she shoved his chest.
She wasn’t surprised that her old friend didn’t budge, but at least he looked sheepish, his cheeks darkening as he ran his hand over his newly-trimmed dreadlocks. “Damn Ess, didn’t know you’d act like this.”
“How am I supposed to act?” She shoved him again, then stomped her foot, sniffing as she crossed her arms. “I didn’t think you were really gonna join up.”
“I’v been thinkin’ ‘bout it a long time,” he rubbed his hand over his head again. “Jus’… please don’t be mad. Bad enough Ma’s not takin’ it good.”
“I bet she’s not,” Essa huffed, raking her claws through her own short auburn mane. She couldn’t picture Jaycen’s free-wheeling smuggler mom liking the idea of him joining the Republic Army. In fact she was willing to bet there’d been a helluva row at the Devane-Riggs homestead when Jaycen told her. “So why you goin’?”
“Jus’ something I gotta do. Gotta learn ta make my way in the world,” he chuckled, “Didn’t think I’d be stickin’ around forever, didja?”
“Well, nooo,” she knew she was pouting but couldn’t help it. “But we, I mean, you, me and Lani, we’re a team.”
He laughed lightly and took her pale fuzzy hand in his darker tanned one. “You and Lani are a team, I jus’ show up when y’all get in too deep.”
“Exactly! Who’s gonna be there for us?”
“You c’n take care of yourselves.” His dark eyes sparkled as his fingers stroked hers. “Keep actin’ all huffy and I’m gonna think you care or somethin’.”
“’Course I care, we’ve only known each other our whole lives. If you’re not around…” That was a thought she wasn’t prepared for, Jaycen not being around. The idea had her stomach twisting in knots and she stepped in closer, sliding her arms around his waist. “Dammit, I’ll miss you.”
“Aww, I’ll miss you too Ess.” His arms wrapped around her tightly and they rocked together quietly. She snuggled her cheek into his chest and heard his breath catch, but neither of them spoke for awhile.
“So when ya leaving?” she finally mumbled and his chest rose as he sighed.
“’Nother month or so. Da’s gonna have a going-away party, jus’ figured you should know before then.”
“’Preciate that,” she muttered.
His fingers moved up under her jaw, raising it so he could smile into her amber eyes. “You really a gonna miss me?”
“Well yeah, I…” Unsure of what else she should say she rose to her tiptoes, pressing her mouth to his.
His breath hitched again and he stiffened, but then he started pressing back, his mouth going soft and warm against hers. Her arms loosened from his waist, drifting up to drape around his neck as their mouths opened, deepening the kiss. His broad sure hands smoothed up and down her back, catching the hem of her shirt and stroking the silky fur just above the waistband of her pants.
Blunt fingernails dug into the base of her spine, tracing small circles and tilting her hips to his, making her gasp softly at the unexpected heat surging through her. She pulled back from the kiss, looking up into the gleaming brown eyes.
“Wow,” he chuckled breathlessly, “Didn’t know ya felt like that.”
“Don’t think I did either ‘til just now,” she chuckled back, then rose up again and gave him a peck on the lips. “’Bout you?”
“Oh Essa,” he tugged her back to his chest, resting against his heartbeat. “Been feeling warm and fuzzy for you for awhile. Jus’…” He let her lean back and swept his fingers down her cheek. “Jus’ didn’t want to assume you felt the same.”
“Great kriffin’ timing.” She screwed up her face at him and he chuckled again.
“Hey, ‘least we got some time to figure things out ‘fore I go.”
“Yeah, you got a point,” she conceded. Taking his hand in hers, she tugged him along to continue their leisurely pace.“A month can last a long time. Let’s make the most of it.”

Note
number 20 for the fictional kiss prompts :)
Thank you so much for the prompt!
20) top of head kisses - Used Nya and Aric for this one and went a lil’ domestic. Also borrowed a few of @shimmer-like-agirl‘s charrie, thanks Hun!
“You sure this is how to do this Papa? It don’t look right?”
Aris didn’t know whether to chuckle or groan as his daughter squinted jeweled amber eyes at the blaster he was teaching her to disassemble. “Been doing this since long before you were born Essie. I’m pretty sure I know what I’m doing.”
“But Aunt Shawnni’s blaster don’t look like this.”
That explained it, he thought, both the attitude and the vernacular. Essa doted on her notorious aunt, to the point of adopting her habits and way of speaking. And it seemed the smuggler had taken the kit under her wing along with her own brood.
Well, almost all of her brood, he chuckled to himself, Shawnni and Corso’s boy Jaycen loved peppering him with questions about the Army when he wasn’t chasing after Essie and his big sister Leillani. The boy seemed smart and resourceful - not surprising considering his mother - might have a bright future in the military if his folks let him join up.
“Papa, are you even listenin’?” Essa was giving him a mutinous look, but when he opened his mouth to scold her a sweet, warm scent hit his nose from behind his chair.
Instinctively he leaned back and gentle fingers stroked his ears as Nya placed a loving kiss on top of his head. Her hands moved down, massaging the sides of his neck then his shoulders, all while a rich purr vibrated from her chest.
“Hey Hotshot,” he murmured, leaning his head back for another kiss and gas flame eye shone brilliantly above him as she bent down to oblige him.
“Eww, yuck!” Essa exclaimed, making a gagging noise and Nya chuckled at his lips before facing their daughter.
“I heard you sassing your father young lady,” she admonished. “What do you say?”
“Sorry Papa,” Essa pouted, seeming less than apologetic, but he shrugged off the attitude.
“Why don’t you clean this up? Lesson’s done for the day.”
The young Cathar whooped, gathering up the blaster bits and tools, then tore out of the room like a rancor was after her while Nya laughed softly.
“Should I talk to Devane about her rubbing off on our daughter?” she asked, and he turned to pull her into the seat with him, giving her a wink.
“Later, first let’s talk about you rubbing on me.”
