Happy Gladiator 11th Anniversary @seyaryminamoto
Glad that I had the chance to make this story part of my life almost 11 years long and hopefully longer. I was a teenager back then, now I am nearing my thirties.
This moment is one of my favorites and one of the one's that is stuck in my mind, because I think about it often. Seeing the whole scene would have been so amazing, but I'm not advanced enough in my drawing abilities.
So, I have my third Sokkla hands sketch and fourth Gladiator-based sketch. I have a colored version, but this one was better. This being said, art is not easy. This is not comparable with professional fanarts of course and miles away from flawless, but I wanted to share it anyway.
He seemed to notice her mind had drifted just now, and he placed a hand on hers, squeezing it a little and bringing her back to reality with that.
"Get some rest, alright?" he said, smiling kindly again before standing up.
Azula didn't know what made her reach out for his hand right then. Sokka froze when he felt her grip on his wrist, and he turned to look at her, surprised. A mild blush tinged her cheeks, and she refused to meet his gaze.
"J-just… it's not really like… like we've never done this before," she muttered, weakly. "There's no need for you to sleep on the floor downstairs. You could just…"
Sokka's eyes widened, his heart drumming in his chest upon that proposal. Soon enough, a smile spread over his features. He slid his wrist out of her grip, but only to clasp her hand with his.
"You sure?" he asked. "You don't think your uncle might peek here in the middle of the night…?"
"He sleeps like a rock, you've seen that yourself," Azula muttered, releasing his hand before dropping on the bed, curling with her back towards him so she wouldn't face him anymore. "Do as you wish… but you can stay here, if you want to."
Sokka lowered his head, his smile widening. For Azula to allow him to share the bed with her, despite their latest conflicts, was a bigger relief than he expected to get. She still wanted to be with him, it seemed… and as much as she was right to say he was an idiot, he wasn't stupid to the point of refusing her offer.

Sokkla Digital Oil Painting: The Slate (Inspired by Seyary Minamoto’s “Gladiator”)
Ahhh, so long time no see. My life has been a bit chaotic as of late, and this painting took me way longer than it should have, but it’s finally finished!
Conveniently, me finishing this lined up pretty closely to Seyary posting her 300th chapter of Gladiator!! So this is to celebrate that, even if it was on accident! 🤣
This artwork is based on Chapter 90 of Seyary Minamoto’s “Gladiator”, and it is a depiction of one of my favorite fights. I’m pretty sure Sokka is supposed to be using Wolf’s Bane in this scene, but... oops 🤷♂️ I’m too lazy to fix it now haha.
I was so nervous about painting the fire here, but I really liked how it turned out! I ended up just mixing the colors together in a chaotic manner, then going over it with the pallet knife. And then I used the airbrush tool to add the glow.
There really wasn’t anything too complicated here. The perspective took me a while to get right, but this was mostly a pretty relaxing one (despite the very not relaxing moment it depicts haha!).
Again, congratulations to @seyaryminamoto on posting 300 chapters of Gladiator!! What an outstanding accomplishment! She is such a dedicated and kind person; words cannot describe how lucky I feel to be able to read such an outstanding story from such an incredible writer 😊
Sadly, I cannot promise that I will be more active in the near future. But I will promise that I will keep making art! Just maybe at a slow pace 😔 I also need to catch up on my Gladiator reading! I’m getting far behind ahhhhhhh

first off, i wanna start off my mentioning how embarrassing it was for you to block me seeing as a block button is meant to make sure you don’t have to interact with a page and it can’t interact with you. you used it so you could spew a)grossly skewed facts and b) pretend to take the high road. i remember very clearly what i said last time, which was that you were the only one to acknowledge that sometimes racist themes are used in sokkla fics. i also very clearly remember you justifying all explicit sokkla work by saying that a) LOK shows Sokka as an adult, and it’s implied that Sokka and Suki slept together in book 3 of atla. i’m not going down that rabbit hole again, but i never exempted you from anything, i just thanked you for not condoning racism the way some people in the fandom have. i’m not pretending to take the high road, you contrived that i was taking it. how the sokkla fandom is conceived is not for you to worry about. if you want to worry about it, be my guest. but you have no right to ask me to alter my content to help with that mission. not with the amount of SA, sexual slavery, and justified misogyny and imperialism content riddling this community. yes, i can see that you’ve been watching my content through alternative accounts because i blocked you as well so don’t even start. i already learned with my last run in with some of the biggest people in the sokkla fandom that they’re not people i want to associate with and that’s okay. and i never called you the Sokkla Queen or suggested that you were trying to be. but yeah, you dont decide what is bad for the community and what’s not. i get along better with pages solely interested in azula, and i still post my sokkla work on ao3 and it does numbers so i’m really not worried about how you or anyone feels about me and who interacts with me.
tldr; find something better to do than pretend to be unbothered and ignore content you don’t agree with like this fandom has suggested i do several times.

By the way, I just realized this as I rewatched ATLA and the live-action. Zuko was stated to be trained by Piandao how to wield the dual swords, which is one of the four major weapons in China. And in the live-action Azula was shown to be practicing archery, in some cultures, archery was one of the appropriate hobbies done by women because of how little they move and such. I suppose it adds on to how they were treated in the royal court, sorry if it's incoherent. Half-asleep and the screen is becoming a bit blurry

I haven't seen the Live Action series since...well quite frankly, I haven't heard a lot of good things about them (particularly since I've heard mixed things about them supposedly deifying Zuko again). It's on the to-do list, but I wanted the heat to die down a little before giving it a shot.

Anyways, I think it's a bit of both. Archery would be considered something up Azula's alley in terms of activities. It's considered feminine by a lot of Asian cultures, but still gets her involved in some art of combat and martial prowess. By the same token, it is considered to be one of the Six Arts as you said in Ancient China. So it could be possible that Ozai is grooming Azula that way to be his heir. Personally, I had a headcanon that archery was supposed to be a way in-universe for Azula to practice the precision and peace of mind needed to achieve lightning bending without it turning dangerous. I mean Zuko got hurt when he tried bending lightning, so we know it can be harmful when improperly handled, so it's not too much of an imagination.
With that said, I am leaning towards the former interpretation. For starters, the Fire Nation is a very militaristic and imperialistic country during the war. Indeed, the only music we see comes from Iroh and he's considered to be a bit of an outcast. The only bit of music we see being performed by the populace as a whole appears to be the anthem in "The Headband", which is basically just one big declaration of loyalty to the Fire Lord. As for the other Four Arts, we don't see them being performed, even during our time with Zuko in the Capital. Chances are if some version of them appeared in-universe, I doubt the Fire Nation would've given them much stock unless they could somehow rework that for military use.
And since Azula was conditioned so much into military life that she legitimately has trouble socializing with other people her age, I sincerely doubt she would've pursued those arts on her own unless they provided some kind of martial benefit.
We do know that the Fire Nation IS pretty gender stratified though. In this post made by the wonderful seyaryminamoto, we do know that men hold more positions of power. With the only women of nobility having little power to speak of like Ursa or Michi. Azula is the exception, but the point still stands that the Fire Nation does adhere to a lot of gender roles. In that regard, I think Zuko training with Piandao while Azula practices archery could be part of this gender stratification in action. Particularly since Ozai is apparently pitting Azula and Zuko against each other, to the point where he seems more pleased with Zuko's hunt for the Avatar than what Azula achieves.
Also, building off of that, if the Fire Nation practices the Six Arts, we should've seen Zuko practice archery by this logic. After all if Ozai pitted them against each other to determine the better heir, wouldn't it make sense for Zuko to pursue them as well as Azula?

This initially was only about the umbrella scene, "Azula and Ren: first help" but then I checked which chapter it was in and ended up rereading the horrible dispute. Ch.250

ok imagine like- Hakoda is the enemy general, right? And his son… is Sokka. And let’s pretend he’s supposed to marry Princess Yue, which would make sense because tribe relations and they’re both the children of the tribes’ respective leaders. And Azula’s not having this shit so she rides her dragon into battle and bam look at that Sokkla arrives. As for the dragon I guess it could be Xin Long @seyaryminamoto but also idk how Xin Long exists outside of the Gladiator universe so eh

What's your favorite Sokkla fic? Personally I like Samsara and P a i n t but I don't see people talk about them often.
Anon, do you have any idea how hard this question is to answer 😭. I've read idk how many Sokkla fics at this point, so it's really hard for me to say which one is my favorite. I've read both of those fics you mentioned and I like them a lot. A few of my favorites would have to be Gladiator and pretty much every Sokkla fic written by @seyaryminamoto, Taming the Wolf , The Return and Into the Fire by Tubendo, the Smoke Demons saga series by MadameZuki, She's Something by @yeahsokkla, and last but not least, The Light That Left Your Eyes by @libbysatton25. I especially love that one because of this one part in either chapter 13 or 14 where Azula just calls out everyone on their shit and I loved it🤣.

3. When Hakoda meets Azula and Hotaru for the first time…: Hakoda joins Sokka for the battle where Azula and Sokka meet again but is in a different place when they do battle. Once the battle ends and the dusts settle. Hakoda watches Hotaru because we all know Sokkla is horny.
4. When Ozai and Ursa see each other …: This is hard. I think that Ursa would be one of if not the final nail in the coffin for Ozai to truly realize he’s beyond saving. This would take place closer to the final chapters.
5. I think Ozai's future looks like...: It’s very hard to say. For the short term, I see him beating himself up for the awful choices he made before making even more after Sokka's return.
6. When Azula finally visits the south pole, I hope/wish/think …: The villagers calling her Jing and she being confused.
7. First things Azula and Sokka will do after their reunion: Hug, cry, apologize, visit Hotaru, find a private place…

SOME NICE WORDS TO OUR DEAR AUTHOR SEYARYMINAMOTO:
I won't lie. I used to think fan fiction was only something bad and cringe inducing (Mine definitely are) but then I was introduced to your work(s) on an Artcraawl post. I thought, "why not? It has three million words, hard work had to be put into it." Six hours later I realized it was past midnight and I had classes the next morning and I had a long ways to go to catch up. For the next few weeks of January/February in 2022, I was addicted. Friends thought I was crazy because every time they looked at me, my face was glued to my phone. The glee I felt when I realized that new chapters were being posted was amazing. And then the impatience of having to wait two weeks for the next update was devastating. But then I saw that you had more works for me to read and read I did. Safe to say that you changed my view of fan fiction, Avatar, Azula and Sokka, and writing. You opened many new doors for me that I refused to even have to key made for. Your dedication, hard work, and awesome writing skills amaze me. I'm happy to be one of many readers you have even though I'm a bit late to the party. If the story continues for another ten years (That number is insane BTW, that's a decade!!), then count me in! I will still wait for every update and my heart will be moved by your beautiful writing. Thank you for all the work you put into this and for how you have influenced me for good. Truly, thank you.

He smiled to himself, closing his eyes as his hand tightened around the necklace, pulling it towards his heart.
"I'm coming back for you, Azula," he said, gently, with as good as a whisper, speaking to himself, as though trusting she would hear him regardless of the distance between them. "Just wait a little longer… alright? I'll get there, no matter what, so give me some time… and wait for me. I'm coming back for you. - Gladiator
I feel like this is the quote for part 3. It definetely is one that'll stuck in my mind. Both of them carrying the other's necklace is something I really like. It's something I always wanted to happen, for Sokka especially to always carry a posession of her with himself.
Also, this scene is powerful. It gives hope and pushes everything forward. So that the lovers will finally meet again.
While reading these lines I immidiately imagined Sokka in this scene. So I started drawing it, and thought Azula with his necklace has to be in the same frame. I love that no matter what, the first thing Sokka wants, the thing he wants to most is going back to Azula. And I'm very pleased with this version of Sokka!!
"Well, then… off we go," he said, raising the necklace: for a fleeting moment, he allowed himself to think he should leave it here, safe and sound… but a slow smile spread upon his face as he realized he wanted her to have it, to wear it, as soon as possible. And she would, once they'd defeated Ozai… once the world was on the right course once more.
Thus, once again, Sokka fastened the necklace delicately over his glove, concealing the pendant underneath his armguard. Feeling protected by guaranteeing Azula would stay close to him this way, Sokka closed his eyes and stepped forward, through the curtain that hung on his bedroom's archway…

Sokkla Secret Santa for Seyary Minamoto! (Inspired by “Gladiator” and “Yakuza AU”)
Here are the two artworks I made for @seyaryminamoto for this years Sokkla Secret Santa event. This is my first time doing this event so I hope it turned out well 😊 I was originally going to do 3 artworks because I finished the first one quickly, but the second one kicked my ass and literally took me a month to do 😂 I had a good laugh when I drew Seyary as my gift recipient, considering I’ve already made a habit of making art for her, this way I didn’t have to worry about not having ideas 😂
Okay, so the first artwork is based off the painting scene from Chapter 194 of Seyary’s Sokkla masterpiece: Gladiator. The whole Return to Shu Jing Arc is one of my favorites, and this scene always stood out to me. I took a much different approach to the landscape compared to the Shu Jing waterfall we see in the show, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. I used the Aponwao falls in Venezuela as a reference for the waterfall on the right, thought it would be a cool little easter egg for those who know Seyary 😊
The first painting is definitely a little more in my comfort zone, but I’m happy with the result regardless. Especially the clouds, I love clouds 😂 Out of all the ones I’ve done, I think it has that “oil painting feel” the most, Artrage is known for having realistic oil physics, so I’ve been trying to take more advantage of that than before.
Ah, so the second painting. I love this one and I also hate it because it was insanely difficult for me (it has 170 layers 😭 which was probably unnecessary but whatever). Just the sketch for the perspective took me a whole day to figure out too. It is from Seyary’s Yakuza AU that she wrote during Sokkla Saturdays last year. It’s one of my favorite AUs and I was really excited to paint something from it!
I really wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone for this one, so I tried to come up with a much more dynamic composition. Once I had the idea of the motorcycle headlight backlighting Azula, I knew I had to paint it. I really struggle with painting people as well, so painting Sokka and Azula in more complex positions proved to be quite challenging.
I originally tried to make them have more complicated expressions, but it was nightmare fuel, so I have expunged those versions from existence.
I did take some liberties here too. Sokka’s crashed motorcycle wasn’t so close to him in the actual story, and it certainly wasn’t raining either, but both aspects made the painting feel so much more alive, I couldn’t bring myself to leave them out.
Anyways, I hope everything turned out well! And I hope everyone has had a great holiday and will have a great New Year!!❤️❤️❤️

The Azula fandom, at least on tumblr, isn’t that diverse. A large majority of you guys are white and/or straight, some of you are also men too but okay.
I would say that, other than myself, the most prominent people in the community are ultranos(not white, not straight), eshusplayground(not white, not straight--lesbian black jewish), lightdancer1(disabled, straight, not male if I remember correctly, which I might not), and wingsfreedom(not American; I don't know more than that). I suppose you could also throw in bellatrixobsessed1(asexual, woman if I remember correctly) and seyaryminamoto(woman, Venezuelan). Prodogg is a person of color, nemesisazura is female and Ukrainian. Hello-nichya-here is female and Brazilian. likeabxrdinflight is queer, asexual, and a woman, if I remember correctly(but she hardly interacts with the fandom anymore). In terms of identity, that's all I know. I legitimately don't know of anyone else who I'm certain is straight, white, and male.
