300th Chapter Celebration Weekend
Tumblr media
All readers!!
We prepared a new fun event for Gladiator.
17th - 18th June
After 10 years we officially reach the 300th chapter. This event is not only to celebrate the 300th chapter, but also for appreciating and revisiting the second part of the story. The other two events from the past took place before part 2 even ended.
Below (under the cut) are different kind of questions. Most of them are part 2 focused.
If you want to partake in this event, all you have to do is answering the questions, choose and guess. The last part contains a guessing game and a quiz, which is new. This event is more expanded than the previous ones.
Feel free to reach my askbox or message me if you do have any questions. I will be posting my answers early that day or even one day prior. You can take a look if it might help you with ideas.
CHANGE: The correct answers of the quiz will be posted on Sunday before the event ends!
Doesn’t matter if you have a Tumblr account or not. Everybody can participate. You can post it on your blogs or submit it to me here. I will post it then.
Another change:
A friend just brought to my attention that tumblr does not allow people without an account to send asks or submissions anymore. I didn’t know that.
If anyone wants to take part, feel free to send your entries to my fanfiction account if you have an account there, I am also Kigozula there.
My account on FF. Net
If I had known this new policy I would have thought about something else... sorry guys. If you see this after this weekend, you can still send your entries ;)
Don’t forget to tag us @kigozula & @seyaryminamoto and use the tags #sokkla & #gladiator300thchapter (and any more you feel like). We can find the posts and try to reblog everyone’s entries.
We wish you fun and hope for many participants!
Important note: I am making something nice here. I talked with Seyary before starting this event. I made it for her, for readers to have a chance to share their favorite stuff and because I love Gladiator. Nobody has to take part. Please be respectful, careful and have fun! =) As mentioned above (askbox/pm), if there are questions.

Happy 300th Chapter to Seyary!
Here's my response for @kigozula's celebration of @seyaryminamoto's masterpiece, Gladiator! Thank you both your amazing work!
FAVORITE…:
OC: Rui Shi
2. Guard: Fei Li
3. Gladiator: Not counting the Blue Wolf, The Millennium Dragon
4. Sponsor: Ty Lee
5. Pair/Couple (besides Sokkla): This is hard… Ty Lee and Haru or Song and Rui Shi
6. Friendship: Song and Sokka
7. Villain/Antagonist/Opponent: The dread that exists for Azula and Sokka about being caught… for a more “true” villain/opponent it would be Rhone
8. Suitor for Azula: Huan because this man is worse at giving gifts than I am
9. Place (any houses/island/cities…): Ember Island or Shu Jing or both.
10. Event (weddings/festivals…): Azula’s and Sokka’s wedding with Xin Long as the officiant
FAVORITE TOP THREE…:
Sokkla Kisses in Part 2 when they become finally a couple: Hmmm…. I think the best one for me was the kiss(es) in the Library’s planetarium. There's too many to accurately rank and all are worth remembering now that Arc 3 is in full swing. I miss the Sokkal kisses.
2. Sokkla Love Making: The hot springs date at Shu Jing, the palanquin quicky, and the… every one? There’s too many to list. Like the kisses, I think most readers miss the love between Sokka and Azula.
THIS OR THAT:
Part 2, or Part 3 (so far): Part 2 for the happy feels
2. Zuki Family or Mai Jian Family: Zuki family
3. Festivals Arc or Anniversary Arc: Have I mentioned these are hard? Anniversary is my favorite for the sole fact that Xin Long officiated a wedding
4. Captain Rui Shi or Captain Fei Li: Captain Rui Shi
5. Ozai or Zhao: Ozai
6. Gladiator Brawl, Sponsor Race, Pairs Tournament or Scavenger Hunt: Gladiator Brawl for the awesome final but Sponsor Race for the feels
7. Xin Long or Appa: Close but Xin Long
8. Azula’s Squad or Sokka’s Squad: Choosing sucks but Sokka’s. I think Azula’s Squad is still forming at the moment.
9. Ty Lee or Mai: Ty Lee
10. Shoji or Kino: Shoji
11. Ruon Jian or Haru: Haru because I think Ruon Jian did not have enough “screen time” to really move into my heart
OTHERS:
A Place you would like to visit or live: I want to visit Ember Island or Shu Jing or Sokka’s house, or the dragon cave or the… Throw a dart at the map.
2. If you could give Part 2 a title it would be: “The Bonds that Drive Us” because, yes, the bond between Sokka and Azula are the key driving force of the plot and the story, but other bonds, those of friendship and/or romance between the many characters, give the story more depth and pushes the story forward.
3. Something you look forward to: Ozai’s reaction to Sokka living and fighting against him
4. Best Arc(s) in Part 3 (so far): Story telling
5. Favorite Sokkla Artwork from Part 2: Sokka and Azula in the planetarium
GUESSING TIME:
Future Ships you think will happen: Here me out… Yue and Anorak
2. Azula and Zhao will divorce when/because of …: Zhao dying to Sokka. Or dying to something/someone else. I don’t see him living to see the final chapters of the story.
3. When Hakoda meets Azula and Hotaru for the first time…: Hakoda joins Sokka for the battle where Azula and Sokka meet again but is in a different place when they do battle. Once the battle ends and the dusts settle. Hakoda watches Hotaru because we all know Sokkla is horny.
4. When Ozai and Ursa see each other …: This is hard. I think that Ursa would be one of if not the final nail in the coffin for Ozai to truly realize he’s beyond saving. This would take place closer to the final chapters.
5. I think Ozai's future looks like...: It’s very hard to say. For the short term, I see him beating himself up for the awful choices he made before making even more after Sokka's return.
6. When Azula finally visits the south pole, I hope/wish/think …: The villagers calling her Jing and she being confused.
7. First things Azula and Sokka will do after their reunion: Hug, cry, apologize, visit Hotaru, find a private place…
QUIZ: (The correct answers can be found in my post on June 16th)
Name of the first Gladiator Sokka fought against? Spawn of the Volcano... Chan's gladiator. That's his name now.
2. How many years are Azula and Sokka a couple now? 3 to 4 years now. Maybe even five but that seems wrong. Once the 3rd Part started, for some reason I thought they were together for 5 years.
3. Which character found out about Azula and Sokka’s secret relationship first? Song
4. Which character felt something might be going on/will be going on between Sokka and Azula from the beginning? Ty Lee
5. What’s the name of Ozai’s first love? I sadly don’t remember but I’m willing to bet my left kidney that it was himself. Please don’t take my kidney because I know I’m wrong.
6. What was the first Gladiator event Azula and Sokka took part in? Scavenger Hunt
7. How often did the Blue Wolf fight in the Slate? Twice in six months? Nine months?
8. Who would have almost been the potential future prince? Chan
9. How old was Aang when he was forced to freeze himself and Appa? 18, I think.
SOME NICE WORDS TO OUR DEAR AUTHOR SEYARYMINAMOTO:
I won't lie. I used to think fan fiction was only something bad and cringe inducing (Mine definitely are) but then I was introduced to your work(s) on an Artcraawl post. I thought, "why not? It has three million words, hard work had to be put into it." Six hours later I realized it was past midnight and I had classes the next morning and I had a long ways to go to catch up. For the next few weeks of January/February in 2022, I was addicted. Friends thought I was crazy because every time they looked at me, my face was glued to my phone. The glee I felt when I realized that new chapters were being posted was amazing. And then the impatience of having to wait two weeks for the next update was devastating. But then I saw that you had more works for me to read and read I did. Safe to say that you changed my view of fan fiction, Avatar, Azula and Sokka, and writing. You opened many new doors for me that I refused to even have to key made for. Your dedication, hard work, and awesome writing skills amaze me. I'm happy to be one of many readers you have even though I'm a bit late to the party. If the story continues for another ten years (That number is insane BTW, that's a decade!!), then count me in! I will still wait for every update and my heart will be moved by your beautiful writing. Thank you for all the work you put into this and for how you have influenced me for good. Truly, thank you.
Here's for 300 more!
For the record, @kigozula, why on earth did you make the questions so hard to answer? This was supposed to be fun yet here I am trying to decide which Sokkla smut scene was my favorite. Do you know how hard that is? Shame on you 🤭

Gladiator 300th chapter event
Thanks to @kigozula for organizing this event, and @seyaryminamoto for making this event possible.
Preface: LONG, this is my first time using tumblr and even participating in any event like this at all, so I'm not sure what the standard conventions are for length. Given that, I just wrote what I truly thought, even if it's rather cumbersome. But given that we've all read Gladiator, and one of us even wrote it, I assume breadth of text isn't too much of a barrier.
I guess I'll stick with the format that @wingsfreedom stuck with for their event, speaking about Gladiator as a whole before answering the event questions.
What makes you stick with the story so far? Well truthfully I haven't stuck with the story very long at all, I only started reading Gladiator in the last week and a half of April, right before my final exams for the semester. I started and was up to date just before chapter 295, and even left a comment under a guest account outlining similar sentiments under chapter 295(on AO3).
As for what Gladiator does to encapsulate me, well Azula is far any away my favourite character in canon, and hate reading tweets on twitter from people who said that Azula didn't deserve redemption had lead someone to mention Gladiator, and here I am. Everything feels so natural, right from the start. Each character introduction feels in line with their canon counter part, and each subsequent character development feels perfectly believable, both emotionally and logically. One of my biggest dislikes about fiction is when the plot is moved forward by people making objectively bad decisions, whether they are illogical or incongruent with their emotional state and needs. It is a further annoyance if everything just accidentally works out. Gladiator in contrast has a very natural plot development, pushed forward by dynamic and grounded characters. The politics of the world are plainly seen, and systemic issues are given the attention they deserve. As much as some people like to divorce politics from fiction, I think that notion is laughable, especially for a story like ATLA. Seyary(? not sure how to address the author) does an excellent job weaving systemic issues into the story. An unlikely point of introspection for me came from reading this story. As Sokka and Azula's love blossomed, the way it is described was so moving, to the point of tears at certain moments of the story. This lead me to realize that most of my romantic relationships were truly meaningless and marred by fear, and as much as I had said I didn't want a true relationship, and was content with a friends with benefits situation, it was my fear of being vulnerable that made me seek those fleeting things. I know this is quite a bit to unload on what is supposed to be a positive event, but I'd imagine these are the kind of feelings and thoughts that good fiction consistently evokes.
OC
There are many excellent OC's in Gladiator, a true testament of Seyary's writing skill to not just flesh out existing characters but give life to new ones. Of these Rui Shi is my personal favourite. I liked seeing his stern outlook, morph into a stern facade over time, as it pertains to Sokka and Azula's relationship. I liked seeing his interpersonal walls come down, allowing him to truly connect with others.
Guard
Well logically this one has to be Rui Shi as well, but that isn't the spirit of the question, so I will choose from the remaining guards. Of these 9(10 including Bao, but he isn't afforded the same opportunities in the story ) they all shine in the moments they're given. I'd have to choose Fei Li, I love the contrast between his demeanor and his role as an Royal guard, and later captain of the third squad. I love his leading role in the speculation about our favourite couple's love life. Some of the chapters that made the finale of part 2 bearable were the little moments between the guards, Sokka and Azula.
Gladiator
Once again forgoing the obvious answer of our main characters, I'd have to say Renzhi, the Millenium Dragon is my favourite. I like the fact that since the leagues inception the second best gladiator was an honourable man. I liked his interactions with Anou, showing he had his friends best intentions and truly cared for him and their bond. I like that he didn't hold anything against Sokka. And this might be a bit greedy, but I look forward to his reappearance in the story.
Sponsor
It doesn't need to be said that this spot truly belongs to Azula, but in her absence Kori takes her place. Her story with Sneers is meant to mirror Azula's story with Sokka, and her devastation at Azula's wedding must have shattered her heart, for two reasons; seeing her friend in terrible pain, and knowing that something similar, although not nearly as bad could await her if the world found out about her relationship with Sneers.
Pair/Couple (besides Sokkla)
Ty lee and Haru have a very beautiful story. Their initially asymmetrical relationship(not by any of their wants but by their lack of communication) was driven by blind lust, but only after truly being vulnerable with each other could their relationship reach new heights. Given my introspective words above, it's no wonder their story is my favourite.
Friendship
Azula, Mai and Ty lee have a sad outcome in canon, but there is one moment of true comradery, the beach. When everyone shares their stories, even Azula has a brief moment of vulnerability before snuffing it out by uttering that line we know all too well "my own mother thought I was a monster". Well thankfully Gladiator is chalk full of this comradery between the three fire nation girls, and I love every second of it.
Villain/Antagonist/Opponent
Ozai, I love what you've done with him. In canon we are shown that Zuko and Azula are morphed by much abuse, and that guides their minds towards some objectively bad actions. Implicitly we are shown that the same abuse must have affected Ozai, Iroh and Azulon and so on. Seyary has fleshed out this abuse that Ozai suffered, but not in a way that absolves him in any capacity from his actions, one that merely tells us what guided him down this dark path. I love the like father like son over emotional way of dealing with things shared between Zuko and Ozai, even if Ozai would never admit it.
Suitor for Azula
Anou has a very interesting arc, what that ends with him becoming an ally to Azula and overcoming his personal demons, with the help of an at the time foe in Azula and his friend Renzhi.
Place (any houses/island/cities…)
I'd say the southern water tribe, even if most the story is devoid of it. It is where our journey starts at a very low point. Sokka spends every waking moment thinking of home, thinking of killing Azula before she returns into his life. Once their relationship blooms he ponders returning, but with Azula at his side. And our story hits a incredibly sad low, with their separation, but narratively I know one day they will return, with the world put forward on a new path towards genuine justice. This is what I'm most looking forward to, and if Whaletail Island is any indication, it will be amazing. This is all without mentioning any of the Southern Water Tribe chapters, and Zuko and Suki's arrival, which are among my favourite chapters.
Event (weddings/festivals…)
My favourite "event" was Jing and Wentai's wedding Firelight Town. Seeing them be able to be themselves in public, with no holding back, seeing the raw emotions emanating off of and onto each other, I'm sure it must've been nearly as fun to write it as it was to read.
Favourite Top 3
Part 2 kisses:
1.) Their wedding kiss when getting married as Jing and Wentai in Firelight Town
2.) Their kisses shared in the morning before Sokka, Azula, Katara, Zuko, Kino and Aang go shopping on Whaletale Island in the cover of darkness.
3.) This kiss when Sokka woke up after being saved by Azula from bleeding out.
Sokkla love making
1.) Consummating their marriage in Firelight Town.
2.) Just after Azula told Sokka that she loves him, sober and directly, at the Northern Air Temple.
3.) Just after Azula proudly declares in front of an audiance of Sokka, Zuko, Katara, Aang and Kino that she loves Sokka in an impassioned speech.
This or That
Part 2, or Part 3 (so far) Part 2 was an incredible read, but it was always marred by the knowledge that eventually, narratively, everything had to come crashing down, that Sokka and Azula would lose everything they had worked for. Part 3 didn't start in the most optimistic of ways, but knowing that things can only get better, that everyone in the gaang, and everyone of Azula's real family in the Fire Nation have boundless hope for what is to come is an equalizer. Given that part 3 is limited to so far, part 2 is my favourite.
Zuki Family or Mai Jian Family
Zuko and Suki's family and general development in the Southern Water Tribe was an incredible development, and nearly took the place my answer to the earlier prompt of favourite couple (besides Sokkla).
Festivals Arc or Anniversary Arc
I'm not sure which festivals arc is being referred to, so I'll put all 3 in order. The first Festivals arc was the best of the 3, the best parts being when Azula accepts that it is love she feels for Sokka, just before bending gold fire for the first time, second only to their first of many sexcapades.
Second place is the next Festivals arc, Sokka's Rui Shi disguise and their dangerous consequences, the homeless people pleading with the firelord for help, sent by the white lotus, the mourning of those important to Sokka and Azula, their indirect bending. So many seemingly little moments and interactions that were a joy to read.
Third place is the Anniversary Arc. It was a fun read, especially when Azula was made aware of Mai and Ty lee's interrogation of her and Sokka's sex life, but I don't think it holds a candle to either of the Fesitval arcs.
Captain Rui Shi or Captain Fei Li
Captain Rui Shi, this should be simple enough to explain. Even when Fei Li was captain, Rui Shi was the de facto leader.
Ozai or Zhao
Ozai. I've already explained my thoughts about Ozai above under the favourite villain prompt. I don't think Zhao can hold a candle to Ozai as a villain, given his courtesy of Sokka and Azula's relationship, and his courtesy of Azula during the early days of their marriage, before the knowledge of her pregnancy infected his mind. I also have a sneaking suspicion that as part 3 progresses, he might not be so much of a villain.
Gladiator Brawl, Sponsor Race, Pairs Tournament or Scavenger Hunt
Sponsor Race was the best. The Brawl was good, either the pairs tournaments were also good, especially the one with Haru and Ty Lee, but the race was amazing. Finally seeing Azula and Sokka fight side by side again, having them triumph against Toph and Iroh, and especially their ventures into the cave of two lovers, their emotional distraught upon reading Oma and Shu's stories. It was amazing, start to finish.
Xin Long or Appa
I think Xin Long has this handily, by the simple fact that there is a literal mind connection between Xin Long and Azula, so they know, quite literally, everything about one another.
Azula’s Squad or Sokka’s Squad
Sokka's squad. While I laughed delightfully upon niece Wen's introduction, and was rather pleased at Azula finally finding a new companion in Rei, Sokka's squad has the Avatar, the twice banished (got to be a record) prince of the Fire Nation, Zuko, Ursa, the only one who had ever been able to somewhat tame Ozai, and of course the Blue Wolf himself. If there was ever a group that Ozai would hate to be together, that was it.
Ty Lee or Mai
Genuinely don't know, I spent a great amount of time considering this. I love Ty lee's story, especially with Haru, but I also love Mai, her family and her uncanny ability to read Azula better than anyone, except for Sokka. This seems a rather diplomatic answer, and I hate seeing such answers, but even my gut says that I don't have an answer, so I guess it's a tie.
Shoji or Kino
Shoji clears, but I suspect that over the course of part 3 Kino will have many, many parts to shine.
Ruon Jian or Haru
Haru, I love his arc where he finds his mother, and truly develops a connection with Ty Lee. Ruon Jian has never been given a chance to shine that brightly.
Other
A Place you would like to visit or live
Fire nation capital Calderra, I quite enjoy city life and its luxuries, and I already live in the imperial core in real life. I wouldn't visit either of the poles, I already deal with a harsh enough winter where I live.
If you could give Part 2 a title it would be
I'm a big sucker for humour so "Coming Together" works quite nicely for me.
Something you look forward to
There's about a hundred little things introduced over the hundreds of chapters that I'm just waiting to be reintroduced during arc 3, the guards, the dragons hidden in the mountain, other gladiators joining Sokka's cause (especially Anou and Renzhi), far too many to list. The thing I'm most looking forward to is Sokka and Azula's reunion, and Azula meeting Katara on far better terms, and Azula discovering who Kuzon truly is.
Best Arc(s) in Part 3 (so far)
They've all been amazing, even if painful at times. The best have been storytelling/wedding, Under Attack/Child of Two Worlds, and Family reunion/Strengthening Bonds. I save my judgement of Taking Omashu as the arc isn't fully out, but if Under Attack is any indication, I have full faith that it will be amazing.
Favorite Sokkla Artwork from Part 2
I only made a tumblr the day of writing this post, the 17th of June and haven't really looked at your tumblr at all beyond to see previews of upcoming chapters. I've never been one for the visual arts, so I don't really have an answer.
Guessing Time
Future Ships you think will happen
I think Katara and Aang is practically a forgone confusion, given their development. I think either one of them will become injured, and Sokka or Azula will tell them to not waste time, because you never know how much you have left with the ones you love. This answer isn't in the spirit of the question, but I don't really have any thoughtful speculation, only guesses, I'm not too fond of.
Azula and Zhao will divorce when/because of …
I don't know if they will divorce, maybe it will be once or if Azula escapes the Fire Nation and she becomes publicly an enemy(?) I don't think it would be particularly wise for Ozai to declare her an enemy, but if Azula escapes with her friends Song and Rei, and keeps Mai and Ty lee's families safe, whether by escaping with them or through other means, it'd hard to not see Ozai react with unrelenting fury that clouds his judgement. If you combine this with the fact that maybe he becomes aware of Sokka's status being alive at the same time, he might truly do something so stupid.
When Hakoda meets Azula and Hotaru for the first time …
Well if he meets Azula, she will probably not want to face him and the rest of the tribe she wronged alone because she feel like she might never be able to atone for her sins, so she'll be with Sokka. I expect a lot of crying, lines similar to the ones said on Whaletail Island about how she might never forgive someone who forcefully took Sokka from her, and Hakoda will break his stoicism upon this declaration, upon seeing Sokka again will be moved to tears. Another scneario is if she escapes to the Southern Water tribe from the Fire Nation without Sokka, which will still be met with the same tears and probably same declarations, just this time without Sokka. She will probably feel really welcome down there.
When Ozai and Ursa see each other …
Ozai will have what humanity he shoves away come back in full force, but Ursa will reject his words and tell him what she really thinks. Ozai will be furious, I think more furious than we've seen yet.
I think Ozai's future looks like... Eventually he will either be killed, or have his bending taken away like in canon. I like to think if he dies that it will be by the space sword, maybe in conjunction with Wolf's Bane. If his bending is taken away, I have faith in Seyary's writing that Aangs gain of this power will be done better than in canon, and a childish part of me wants Ozai to see Azula and Sokka hugging and kissing after becoming powerless.
When Azula finally visits the south pole, I hope/wish/think …
I've already laid my thoughts out when Hakoda meets Azula and Hotaru for the first time. With the rest of the tribe I expect similar greetings, but without the rest of the tribe reciprocating said tears.
First things Azula and Sokka will do after their reunion
If their first spiritual meeting is any indication, it will be to hug and kiss, saying each others name between sobs and tears.
Quiz
Name of the first Gladiator Sokka fought against?
Spawn of the Volcano
How many years are Azula and Sokka a couple now?
I think it's been 6 years since they first met in the south pole, 4 years since they met again in Hui Yi, and if we take them having sex as fully saying no matter what they need each other and to become a couple it's been somewhere between 2 years and 9 months and 3 years.
Which character found out about Azula and Sokka’s secret relationship first? Depends on how you define relationship and found out. Certainly Mai and Ty lee knew that they would fall in love pretty much instantly, Rui Shi thought something happened in the forest, especially when Azula said "Due to something I will not explain to you, I left to face the Rhinos by myself" he must've assumed something happened with Sokka. Toph definitely knew Sokka loved Azula, and knew by the time they were in Ba Sing Se together that Azula loved Sokka. Rui Shi saw them kiss on Shu Jing, song was the first to find out they'd had sex. So this question has many answers.
Which character felt something might be going on/will be going on between Sokka and Azula from the beginning? Mai and Ty lee.
What’s the name of Ozai’s first love? Ursa.(??) This feels too easy, like a gimme so maybe his first love was his father Azulon, maybe the power that Seethus gave him, seeing Azula the prodigious bender at birth? I'm confused but the answer must be Ursa, because those other 3 clearly aren't love, and if what he felt for Ursa wasn't love it was certainly closer.
What was the first Gladiator event Azula and Sokka took part in? Scavenger Hunt.
How often did the Blue Wolf fight in the Slate?
He fought twice, against the Millennium Dragon and the Queen of Pain.
Who would have almost been the potential future prince? I'm not sure what that means, maybe governor Kuon? He was rather close to having his gladiator defeat Sokka due to Sokka's leg cramping. Maybe you mean Anou, Renzhi was also close to defeating Sokka in the brawl, but I doubt Ozai would let Anou marry into the Royal family.
How old was Aang when he was forced to freeze himself and Appa? He was the same age as Azula at the start of the story, so 19.
SOME NICE WORDS TO OUR DEAR AUTHOR SEYARYMINAMOTO:
Seldom am I invested this much in anything in my life, not the gym, my studies, athletics, friends. For the last month and a bit this story has consumed my past time, most of the time I'm rereading my favourite chapters, thinking, theory crafting of what's to come. Truly you've brought every character to life in incredible ways, even minor characters that make one or two appearances like Longshot, members of the Blue den like Pirrin, Yang, people like Mei Xun and Sae. You've no doubt captivated my mind with your writing, and certainly I'm no the only one. I hope that writing this story has been as much of a joy as it has been to read it. Part of me wishes that I could time travel, just for the sake of going two years in the future to finish reading this story as soon as possible, or that you had started writing this story two years prior, and quite frankly I'm not sure which one is more selfish.

Gladiator 300th Chapter Celebration
Here are my answers and I have to admit, I realized how hard it was to answer some of them xD
FAVORITE…
1.OC: It has always been Rui Shi. But in general, I do like so many OC's. Tiang is one of them as well. As I say often, Seyary is the Queen of the best OC's!!
2. Guard: Since I chose Rui Shi as my favorite OC, I choose Fei Li here. Funny and cute
3. Gladiator: The Millenium Dragon is a nice person. The Blind Bandit maybe? Or wait, Haru? Honestly I don't really have a favorite Gladiator other than the Blue Wolf come to think of it
4. Sponsor: I'm going with Zhao
5. Pair/Couple (besides Sokkla): Songshi<3 These two are the cutest
6. Friendship: Azula and her childhood friends Mai and Ty Lee. I miss their friendship these days... Azula and Rui Shi, Azula-Sokka-Rui Shi-Song
7. Villain/Antagonist/Opponent: Yes he is evil, but Rhone brought action
8. Suitor for Azula: Kuan and Hahn. Here too, I liked the action it brought. And I enjoyed it how Hahn ended up. As for the characters I like as suitors Zhao and Chan. I believe Chan will be a good character in the future(?)
"Oh?" said Ozai. "And what sort of gift is that?"
"Why, no other than him, of course," said Kuan, pointing at the man he had brought with him.
"Why, your first engagement present to me is a man?" asked Azula, raising her eyebrows. "Your ideas for courting are quite unconventional, Governor Kuan." Chapter 69
Had to drop this here, since I am re-reading this arc currently. One of the funniest scenes xD
9. Place (any houses/island/cities…): Fire Nation Capital (the Palace, Sokka and Azula's house/garden, Ty Lee's, Ember Island, Shu Jing
10. Event (weddings/festivals…): Not sure but Azula‘s birthday and the Gladiator Fight afterwards. And the second Fire Nation Festival with the catastrophic ending
FAVORITE TOP THREE…:
Sokkla Kisses in Part 2 when they become finally a couple: I really like making things difficult don’t I? I might be missing some but at the moment: Their rejoining after the second Fire Nation Festivals, on the ship when Sokka rushed in Azula‘s room while Ty Lee is still in there, Shu Jing domestic life, aaannddd I think on the ship when Azula accidentally spills out the word love and is „angry“ afterwards, Oh and when she hurts her wrinkle and Sokka tends to it and kisses her *_*
Sokkla Love Making: The whole Festivals Arc, random moments, Northern Air Temple, Anniversary
THIS OR THAT:
1.Part 2, or Part 3 (so far): I really have no answer to this. Been reading since nine years, my absolute favorite arcs and moments aren't much more in one part than the other. So, I have to answer it this way ;) in no particular order:
Introduction arc Attack of the White Lotus arc Ember Island arc The Notorious Stingray arc Azula’s Birthday arc Fire Nation Festivals arc Giving in arc Northern Air Temple arc Kinslayer arc Toph finds out arc Fire Nation Festivals #2 arc  Sokka and Azula’s anniversary arc Gladiator Brawl arc Return to Shu Jing arc The Spirit Library arc Fire Lord for a Week arc Wedding arc
2. Zuki Family or Mai Jian Family: I'm honestly impressed by both. I never thought Zuko would be such a good family man. Mai Jian is a dream. I guess at the end Mai Jian outweighs Zuki even if juuuust little
3. Festivals Arc or Anniversary Arc: Again I guess I like making things difficult xD. Both are bomb... Again there is only the littlest difference and my choice goes with Festivals...
4. Captain Rui Shi or Captain Fei Li: Captain Rui Shi forever
5. Ozai or Zhao: Zhao. He made a 180 degree turn out of nothing these days. But I still like this man in part 2 as well as the beginning of part 3. He treated both Azula and Sokka well in my opinion. Before the whole pregnancy reveal, he's been a good man to his wife Azula. Zhao is one of the best characters in the whole story!!
Ozai... well, even if he our Diva Lord is a likable character, (I mean part 1 and part 2 were very funny with him), and even if I don't truly hate him as a character, I can never see him the way I did after all the things he did to my baby Azula
6. Gladiator Brawl, Sponsor Race, Pairs Tournament or Scavenger Hunt: All are very good. My final decision is Gladiator Brawl
7. Xin Long or Appa: I ike Appa. But Xin Long wins here!!
8. Azula’s Squad or Sokka’s Squad: I'm gonna go with Rui Shi's future Squad(?) xD
9. Ty Lee or Mai: Ty Lee I like more in part 1. Mai is always good. This woman and her sudden comments are humorous. Their absence is very noticeable
10. Shoji or Kino: Shoojiiiiii
11. Ruon Jian or Haru: We didn't see much of Ruon Jian, but I still like him. I like Haru more still. He was very funny around Azula at the beginning xD
OTHERS:
1.A Place you would like to visit or live: The Capital I would want to live in. And visiting, I would like to see every place. Esepcially Ember Island
2. If you could give Part 2 a title it would be: "A BOND UNBREAKABLE"
3. Something you look forward to: Chan. Rui Shi and the guards. *coughs* chapter 327/329. Azula visiting the South Pole. Reuniting and being happy together again forever*-*. Azula giving birth to more children with Sokka by her side
4. Favorite Sokkla Artwork from Part 2:
These two babies right here*-*:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GUESSING TIME:
Future Ships you think will happen: I thought about Reirei at then beginning (Rei and Renkai) but then I found out about the age difference. Honestly, I don't think there is going to be a big surprise
Azula and Zhao will divorce when/because of … I think Zhao might commit betrayal and lose the royal family's trust (the Spirit Oasis)
When Hakoda meets Azula and Hotaru for the first time …: One of the things I am very much looking forward to. Admiration on both sides and happiness. Maybe some tears?
When Ozai and Ursa see each other …: .................................................................................................................................................... Angry Ursa.... I think she will play a major role in Ozai's future downfall, emotionally(?). Everything aside, I would support some moments of affection and longing from both sides =D. Urzai is a good ship... HAD the potential of being one of the best...
I think Ozai's future looks like...: Since things can change in this story, I don't really have an opinion on that that I can be sure of. All I can say is: I think he will stay alive...
When Azula finally visits the South Pole, I hope/wish/think …: Igloo Sokkla. Fun family times. *wantstocry*. Admiration of the whole tribe for Azula, their new family member
First things Azula and Sokka will do after their reunion:
Be happy, cry, take in each other's scent, cuddle together with their baby daughter, then sharing their miserable journey with each other, Sokka finding out about the letters and her tears and trying to keep his anger in check and never ever letting her go for the rest of his life, no matter what happens.
@seyaryminamoto , congratulations on the release of the 300th chapter! As always, I feel happy-sad and can't believe Gladiator is a journey we've been on for a decade. You already know how much I love this story;). Your hard work and love for writing and making these beautiful artworks amaze me. I appreciate you giving me the opportunity to host events for your masterpiece and I feel valued with your trust! Thank you! I've already started re-reading my favorite arcs. They give me joy!
I'll be posting the correct answers to the quiz on sunday evening.

What do you think are the most popular OOC/fanon characterizations for Azula the fandom falsely embraced as canon?
Oh, well, that’s not hard to narrow down:
Violence-happy Azula: very popular, often seen everywhere, regardless of ships. As much as Azula isn’t a pacifist, clear as day, she’s also not the kind of person who inflicts physical damage on people for fun. There’s no end to the fics and stories and headcanons where people rely on making her physically threatening, whether because she’s a villain or because she’s in a turbulent love affair that starts really badly. I’ve used up a lot of my patience braving with stories where she behaves like this, trying to just accept that’s the writer’s interpretation, but frankly, it’s like Sozin’s Comet Azula but 24/7, displayed as if this were her “normal” state. Which it isn’t, no matter what a lot of people like to pretend.
Megalomaniac Azula: so very prominent in the comics, which has led to fanon going crazy about how Azula is out for the throne and for a crown. This isn’t necessarily terrible, some writers use this to give her development when she stops wanting the throne and the crown because she finds new motivations… but as much as Azula had ambitions in the show, she was never so power-hungry that her lust for power would supercede everything else. She chose returning to the Fire Nation over staying as Earth Queen, chose bringing Zuko back home even if he would regain his position as his father’s heir, despite that could harm her position as Ozai’s favorite. Also, she was never shown in the show claiming the throne was going to be hers or saying she begrudged Zuko because he was the rightful heir. So yes, fine, want to portray her interested in the throne? At least do the courtesy of making her MORE than just a power-hungry princess hellbent on taking over the world, and I’ll be fine with it.
Redeemed-soft-boiled Azula: not too prominent, but still happens, despite a lot of people denounce it and not everyone would consider this “canon”, but still so bad that I had to bring it up. I’ve never written an Azula redemption per se, I’ve written her as post-redemption or, in Gladiator, I’ve developed her in a very particular way that just isn’t the canon redemption she’s likely to get. But whenever I do that, I try my hardest to show that Azula doesn’t need to stop being Azula to become a better person. But not a lot of people seem to agree, and those people are the ones who created this category. To sum it up, this third example is “good Azula”, which is better defined as “clean slate Azula”, which really just means “let’s erase her personality and pretend that’s what redemption should be about, rather than showing how Azula learns to correct her mistakes and wrong behaviors from the past without relinquishing who she is”. And those people make post-redemption stories for Azula that… well… tend to result in something like this:
Tumblr media
… yeah. Let’s NOT talk about HIBY, shall we? That thing on its own is a brilliant example of what NOT to do with Azula.
I think those three are the main problems I’ve seen with Azula. I guess a way to sum things up is that people will simplify her character in three different but very specific ways: for the first example, “violent/dangerous=evil and creepy”, for the second example “power-hungry=evil until she lets go of her ambitions which is all her redemption is about”, and for the third one “redeemed/good= brain dead Azula”.
So that’s that :’D

Seeing as you've already given your opinion on who are the most overrated characters of atla, who do you think are the most underrated?
Heh, well…
I wasn’t sure whether to feature Sokka as #1 or #2 but alas, I love him so he gets #1. He’s terribly underrated and it angers me. There was a time when my blog wasn’t an exclusively Sokkla blog with a few things on the side, I used to reblog general Avatar things (yes, that was A LONG time ago xD), and yet every single time I saw “Team Avatar” posts without Sokka I would literally scroll past them as if they didn’t exist. Because ffs, I don’t care if he’s not a bender, if the other four are the perfect symbolization of the four elements in harmony, HE’S PART OF TEAM AVATAR TOO!… so yes. Sokka. The guy who gets simplified, as I recently said, as “he was sexist and now he’s not” by posts of 100K notes, or even shrugged off by some people as “the funny one”, even gets hated by some people with terrible taste who think he’s useless just because he can’t bend. Yep, those who hate him because of this aren’t even worth talking to, in my experience. Clear as day they can’t see the true worth of anything even if it’s right in front of their eyes.Alas, Sokka, the boy who grew up into a man by putting other people’s needs ahead of his own, who stood his moral code even in the worst circumstances (such as shown in Jet), who opened his mind to new experiences and became a remarkable warrior because of this. He’s humble, but his heart is stronger than that of any other character in the franchise. He has seen so much tragedy and such darkness weighs inside him, but he doesn’t allow those tragedies to shape him. His strength is seriously admirable.… And I’d dare say half the fandom, if not more, just think he’s the funny guy. He’s the definition of an underrated character.
Ironically, I think Aang is very underrated. Yes, he’s not my favorite character either, but the strength this boy showed in the face of his many tragedies, and the evolution from fleeing from his problems to being able to face his responsibilities was pretty great. Also, Aang, unlike some other characters, usually faced consequences when he did something wrong.Perhaps the only exception I can think for that is his emo phase during Book 2, which is justified plenty, but the show doesn’t try to make you think he’s being nice. It’s shown that he’s very affected by the loss of his bison, but his treatment of his friends isn’t sweetened. The others show a lot of strength and understanding, knowing Aang can’t be his usual self when this is weighing on him. It was a bad time for everyone, yet I feel it was handled well enough as something that was hurting Aang really badly, one last straw for him after he had undergone so much pain already.Other than that specific part of the show, Aang often was forced to grow and change whenever he made mistakes, and had to face many uncomfortable truths about his past lives and the world he lived in. He showed a lot of integrity and human qualities and never degenerated into a tropey shonen anime protagonist, for instance. So while I’m not a huge Aang fan, I figured the rest of the fandom would appreciate him more. No doubt he has his fans, but a ton of the hate he gets is undeserved and often hypocritical, not to mention it’s mostly done to simplify his character when he was pretty great, as a character and hero, as he was.
Ahahahahaaa… Ozai! Yes, I don’t blame most people for underestimating and despising Ozai: let’s be fair, this man was supposed to be the final boss and he was built from the start to be the kind of villain people hated. He wasn’t meant to be relatable or nice or emotional or anything of the sort, even if a handful of people did grow to like him. But the show clearly wanted him to be a bad guy, THE bad guy, and he played his part well enough. But the thing that bugs me with Ozai is: for one thing, so many people underestimate his bending skills. No lie, we only saw him fighting in Sozin’s Comet, but even so, the kind of mad skills he showed there were off the charts. The legion of people claiming Iroh is stronger than Ozai and that he would’ve handed his ass to him is honestly laughable, considering that IROH HIMSELF SAYS HE DOESN’T KNOW THAT HE CAN GO UP AGAINST HIS BROTHER. Ozai is the strongest firebender in ATLA, PERIOD. He did things no other firebenders were shown doing. He was supposed to be that powerful BECAUSE he’s the final boss. Yes, the fight between him and Aang falls short compared to the Last Agni Kai because the emotional investment and conflict isn’t as strong here as it was over there, but for people to actually claim Ozai was weak at all? That he wasn’t that big a deal? Excuse you, but that’s just spite talking. I love Azula with all my heart, and even I can see she still wasn’t on the same power level scale as her father during the finale. And that’s fact. (I think she has the potential to surpass him, yes, but she hadn’t done it by the time of the finale). And then there’s the other reason why Ozai is underrated: yes, he wasn’t developed, he wasn’t explored, he fell flat many times. But honest to gods, it’s not that hard to draw the parallels between him and Zuko when you consider: 1. Ozai was designed to look like an older version of Zuko 2. Ozai is stated to have traveled looking for the Avatar, just like Zuko 3. Ozai gets passed over by his father and punished beyond proportion for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Seriously, can we not see these parallels, right there? And that’s without getting into the similarity of Zuko and Ozai’s personalities, because both of them seemed to feel entitled to the throne that, originally, wasn’t supposed to be theirs (as a reminder, if we go by what the Wikia says, Zuko is 11 when Lu Ten dies, which means he spent 11 years of his life without being a Crown Prince or expecting to take the throne because, by all logic, it should have been Lu Ten’s... yet he slides into the “that throne will be mine” mentality within a few years). Both of them are brash, hot-headed and impulsive. Both of them have bad tempers, both of them spent years trying to please fathers who could never be pleased at all.Point being? OZAI IS A MIRROR FOR ZUKO. OZAI IS “BAD ENDING ZUKO”. OZAI IS WHAT ZUKO COULD HAVE BEEN IF AANG NEVER SHOWED UP, IF IROH WASN’T AROUND TO GUIDE HIM. And that, my friends, adds a fuckton of complexity to Ozai that the majority of the fandom is happy to overlook. Hate him all you want, he’s supposed to be hated. But this guy is waaaaay more than what meets the eye if you only stop for ten minutes to ponder his character, his possible motivations and his relationships. It’s especially clear that he’s very much complex when you factor in the resemblance with Zuko.
And this time I guess I’ll cut it short at 3 because I can’t think of anyone else who’s underrated or even criticized relentlessly without much basis. While there’s some people who undermine characters like Suki, she also has a fairly big and solid group of fans who are very much devoted to bringing up her character and who will always begrudge Bryke for not revealing anything about her future, so she’s not THAT underrated...?
Welp, I feel the fandom is a little more balanced with the rest of the characters, there’s enough love and hate to go for everyone. So I guess I’ll keep it as a top 3 this time, if you don’t mind, Anon.

Anon-Nemesis - I dislike how some revile S1 Sokka as sexist. True, the tribes have their flaws in that area, but Sokka was, what? an isolated, inexperienced 13, 14 year old at the time, just past the good old "Girls are ikky." age into the "I like girls." age. And once he saw the wider world, he learned better. If he were 20 and spouting that "Girls can't fight" crap, then sure, benign sexism, but not 13. I know tumblr is feminist central and I'll get lynched for this opinion, but, whatever.
Welp, he was 15 according to some sources, 16 according to others. At any rate, I do understand how you feel because it’s rather frustrating that a lot of people wave Sokka’s discarding of his learned sexist tendencies as the main point of his character development… when it literally took him four episodes to do that. I mean, is it that to these people Sokka didn’t grow at all in the rest of the show? Did they not see the way he changed regarding everything else…?
Anyways, I actually lectured my brother-in-law about this xD he said Sokka’s development was “going from sexist to SJW” and I’m sure you can imagine how that triggered one of the trademark Seyary long rants. I think he learned better now (?)
Still, I always got the feeling that Sokka’s scoffing at girls in those first episodes was on great measure done to annoy his sister. The things he tells her in episode 1 are actually very much aimed towards pissing her off (something that  another character we love was shown doing to her sibling too…), so I think that also had a great deal to do with why he spouted those things at the Kyoshi Warriors when he first met them. He’s been downplaying girls to taunt his sister forever, and girls got the better of him? So he tries to prove they weren’t all that, and then gets his ass handed over to him… and with just that, he learns better. That fast. That simple. From there on, he taunts his sister with other things.
And that is all. That’s it. His respect for women increases and evolves through the show, yes, but I admit I get tired of seeing people bring him up as merely “the sexist who learned better”. Sokka is especially bitter in Book 1, for reasons that are revealed and exposed in time, and as he evolves he leaves more of that bitterness behind because he’s playing his part in the war and helping save the world. He faces tragedies that no other member in Team Avatar did (who else saw their love interest die?), and he makes sacrifices for his friends whenever he has to.
In short, Sokka is much more than just some sexist who got over it. And yes, you’re right to say that he learned better that easily because not only was he isolated, but he was also young enough that his behavior could be corrected.

Who do you think are the most useless characters in LoK?
Ha, damn, you guys really do love making me a controversial blogger!
As with all controversial questions, this goes under a Read More
There’s different kinds of uselessness at play here, if you ask me. Most characters are skilled at one thing or another, so your typical definition of uselessness doesn’t work. Useless, though, as in “provided nothing to the plot”, is something that certainly happened in LOK. And useless as in “could have been amazing and was a huge disappointment”  is even more prominent than the previous one.
So, shall we split this question in those three sections?
Useless #1: no skills to speak of, too much screen time was wasted on them:
Wu: I actually considered having him in the third category instead, but why lie? His character only had potential because of his position in the world. When you weigh his character and his development for themselves, without focusing on his role, you realize he’s absolutely irksome and unnecessary as a character. When even Bryke asked themselves how on earth did they keep the badgermole singing scene, which is, LITERALLY, the only useful thing Wu ever did, you come to the conclusion that in order to make Wu a good character, his entire concept had to be utterly different from what it was. Ergo, yes, he earned this spot fair and square.
Unalaq: oh yes he had skills, skills to bend spirits, which was probably the biggest disservice to spirits ever done in the entire saga. Unalaq was a waste of time, and, as the entirety of Book 2 is a spit in the face of everything Avatar, it’s safe to say this entire franchise would have been better off without him. Heck, people in general seem to forget he even exists and I’m glad they do. He’s just that useless.
Useless #2: provided nothing to the plot, caused the show to drag on pointlessly:
The entire Su Beifong branch of the Beifong family: I’m not even going to apologize for being as blunt as I am about my distaste of Su Beifong and everything about her. The drama she provided the show with was seriously a waste of time. Imagine how many things could have been developed better if all of the Su Beifong family drama from both seasons 3 and 4 hadn’t happened? Her very existence was simply… so unnecessary? After two seasons, bringing in another daughter of Toph’s as they did was utterly pointless. Nobody ever made a reference to her before, zero insinuation of her very existence, let alone of the existence of her family. Why were they necessary at all? Well, they weren’t. They derailed the show and half of the FINAL SEASON was wasted on trying to unravel their ridiculous drama. Excuse me, but I would have rather had Kuvira being an independent agent, not in love with Bataar, so all the pointless melodrama could be scrapped altogether. Maybe that way Korrasami would have had enough screentime to develop properly.
Varrick in seasons 2 and 3: I will give him a pass in season 4 as that’s the only one where he did SOMETHING. But honest to gods Varrick was painful to watch for me in seasons 2 and 3. I wasn’t amused by him in the slightest. The whole matter of the civil war between tribes got shoved under such a huge rug that I literally don’t remember anything about it. Or about the Movers. And if him making a magnetic suit would have come in handy eventually, his appearance in season 3 might have served SOME purpose, but no. So yes, he goes in this list. He absolutely earned his spot.
Zaheer: oh yes, a lot of people loved/feared/revered this asshole, and indeed, perhaps he fits in the “wasted potential” category just fine. But frankly, I couldn’t bring myself to put him there. Truth be told, Zaheer was a pain in the ass for me. His character felt flat and irritating, a mere attempt to make an “intellectual” villain that backfired entirely because his literacy didn’t make him more interesting in the slightest, he legit came off as an edgy communist teenager in the body of an adult, playing at being wise while knowingly sending the world to shit. There was a story behind everything he did, yes he had motivations, yes, he had skills… and yet you have no idea how the blazes he came into acquiring those motivations and skills. He saved P’li from enslavement? Is slavery a problem in the Avatarverse now? If slavery has been happening, why hasn’t it been developed more as a seriously bad issue in the Avatar world? Well, screw that, turns out the only function for “he saved P’li” is so he looks cool and noble. Same as his interest in Air Nomad culture and knowledge, that just makes him cool! Also, ironically, his attachment to his goal of killing Korra should have kept him from flying because AMBITIONS ARE ALSO ATTACHMENTS. Basically, Zaheer is an improvement on Unalaq and yet still a failure of a character in a thousand ways where Unalaq failed, too. He wasn’t believable for me at all: in the end he was only around to play at being Korra’s worst foil. Both Amon and Kuvira get believable motivations and their villainy goes beyond playing Final Boss for Korra. This is not the case with Zaheer. Everything about him seems to revolve around Korra.
Useless #3: absolutely wasted potential, deserved better than what they got:
Bumi: I am still SO PISSED regarding how horribly this show mishandled Bumi. His first appearance was so promising, showing a character who outright looked crazy…! And suddenly turns out he’s dorky, not crazy, and his quirks are simply stupid-funny, which is what his character was all about until he becomes a rookie airbender. Did they seriously introduce a character to us as COMMANDER BUMI… just to make him a laughingstock? Just to make him funny? What military skills did he have? How did he make it so far in life when all we know of him is that he can play the flute? Someone, please, explain. And his story regarding feeling inferior for not being an airbender, just for him to end up being an airbender all the same in the next season? I HATED IT. Waste of screentime, right there. No development needed, let’s just forcibly kill his insecurities by making him an insta-airbender. Ugh.
Asami: this is even painful. We’re talking about a girl who had ten thousand skills and could do all sorts of jobs, with insanely high quality training in combat… and what did she do for this show? Provided the money for the Fire Ferrets in season 1, then the air crafts needed for every other season, and became a love interest. The majority of the stuff she did with her skills are off-screen. We HEAR about Asami, we seldom see her in action and she is CONSTANTLY, CONSISTENTLY, removed from important events in every season. She literally gets written out of Book 2′s finale as a whole. In Book 1 she faced her dad, wasn’t involved in the final, main conflict. In Book 3 she couldn’t do anything to help with Zaheer in the final fight. In Book 4 she got written out of the fight too after her dad becomes a martyr. How. Just. How?? This character HAD potential. It got squandered and thrown to waste because the biggest bigots when it came to bending and non-bendng were the show’s writers.
Bolin: this guy had a completely incoherent arc and development, mainly because his character had no clear motivations and no obvious interests throughout the entire story. No doubt, he wanted to make something of himself, but it isn’t until Book 4 where he finally channels his motivation into something productive. Otherwise, he was only ever following Korra around. Adding to this that most his presence in the first seasons was about turning him into a laughingstock, with only a handful of serious moments, and that his love life was even more messed up than his character arc, and he’s just one big pile of wasted potential.
P’li: I am singling out P’li specifically, despite Ghazan and Ming-hua also should be included here. But P’li is the one that bugs me the most because she could have provided countless answers regarding combustion bending if only the show had included her as something other than Zaheer’s explosive girlfriend. The fact remains that I was mainly interested in her character because of the expansion of lore she could offer, and in the end she provided nothing new for us. It’s beyond disappointing. As for Ming-hua and Ghazan, yes, they were underused and their storylines cheapened too. All three of them are exponents of wasted potential.
Kya II: she was cool, could’ve been a much more complex character, and yet I think she must have had less screentime than Zuko? I don’t even know, but the point is, she was around only for a couple of seasons, wasn’t particularly prominent in either one, got ZERO lines in book 4... she’s an immediate candidate for this category.
Iroh II: basically the same as above. It’s kind of sad because he was the leader of armed forces that achieved nothing at any point in the show? I’ve never seen a show that brings up armies and warfare as much as LOK did while also never allowing full-blown armed conflict to unfold. I mean, I’m not asking for Helm’s Deep, but every single time Iroh brought out his troops he was either wiped out or left to watch things unfold from the sidelines. Honestly, he was around to cater to Zuko fans and nothing more, while having the potential to BE much more. Fans used this character a thousand times more than the show ever did.
Desna and Eska: not a lot of people liked them, but the fact remained that they had potential, especially after turning against their father and becoming leaders of their tribe at such young age. The conflict Desna showed when it came to Unalaq was actually pretty nice, and for me to say such a thing about ANYTHING in Book 2 is a shocker. And yet they practically did nothing else in the other seasons, aside from a creepy joke that sounded like incest was being hinted at. Neat-o.
Senna: it’s actually embarrassing that the show did next to nothing with Korra’s MOTHER. I have no doubts she had potential, honest to gods. It’s disappointing to no end that all we know about her, by watching the show, is that she’s someone’s wife and someone’s mom. She’s cute and adorable and just... there. Cool. What a waste.
I suppose there are more characters worth sorting in here, but if I keep going I won’t get to any other asks. So here you go :’D

If you had to choose one, what would be your favorite sokkla fanfic? For me, barring Gladiator, I'd have to pick Keith B. Real's Mountains of Madness series.
God, that’s a seriously difficult question. So many good ones, after all…
Keith B. Real deserves all the credit for his genius work on his Madness series. Like, damn, I’m still overjoyed we have such a high quality story in our little corner of our fandom, I haven’t seen anything like it in any other ships (and I daresay, I question other people would be able to weave Lovecraftian lore into such a high quality crossover even if they tried…). So yes, that makes me very happy.
I realized I was a terrible fool to forget Thingsareswinging’s stories on my fic rec list because I only looked through my fanfiction.net lists, and I usually read his stories on AO3. Fool that I am. But Thingsareswinging wrote Gentleman of Weapons, which yes, may not be full-blown Sokkla yet… but it’s still one of the greatest ATLA fics I ever read, hands down. Seriously, it’s just that good.
Bonfire Heart destroyed me emotionally, for sure. Madame Atomic Bomb is a brilliant writer, that’s a fact, but what she did in Bonfire Heart really drove me crazy (as the tags I left on every reblog should have shown xD). She built the relationship really well, and just… *happy sigh* *clutches heart* *cries* what a rollercoaster of feels that was.
p a i n t is amazing too, mystery and complexities beyond measure, with a slow but intense development of Sokka and Azula’s relationship. I really enjoyed it a lot the first time I read it, the second time I think I enjoyed it even more xD
Absolutely shouldn’t forget about Imprisoned, which I direly need to re-read. That story was really good, I just loved the way Sokkla developed there. One of those capture fics that really stands out amongst the rest.
And what’s worse is I know there’s more who deserve to be in this list, so many more… but as you can see, I can’t even pick an actual favorite :’D all these fics are 100% worth reading, in my experience. If you still haven’t checked out some of them, you should do it ASAP!

Have you ever thought of drawing sokkla gender swapped? I'd like to know how you imagine they would look like.
I did draw this and I KNOW it’s somewhere but I don’t know where??? @fanwright once brought it up and I might have shown him the sketch… but damn I can’t find the sketchbook because I have so many of them and no idea of when or where I drew it :’D
If I find it, I’ll reblog this and let you know!

You probably may already know this, but Kallen implied in the episode "The Stolen Mask" that if she was chosen to kiss whichever student found Arthur, that it would be her first kiss. Which not only brings more meaning to when she slapped Lelouch for trying to have her "console him, but it also means that Lelouch's last kiss was Kallen's first and the fact that he "didn't react" probably broke her heart even more so than we all thought. Just a little bit of brain candy for you to chew on.
Oh, do I know this, Anon…
I kept cheering on whenever they were about to kiss in R2 because “YES GIVE HIM YOUR FIRST, KALLEN!” and, um, it just never happened.
And alas, eventually I was watching the RAWs for the fateful, evil episode where it finally did. The RAWs, aka, as soon as it had been uploaded online. I had seen no spoilers. I had no idea what to expect.
I was trying to watch it at my aunt’s house. The internet wasn’t working on one of the computers, so my cousin was like “No biggy, watch it on my laptop!” and she sat there to watch it with me.
I was screaming internally the whole time because they were interacting again, THEY WERE! And I didn’t understand a lot of what they were saying, mostly the jist of it, of course noticed how Lelouch had shut down completely when Kallen started talking so I was a little sad about that…
… and then she kissed him.
… I have no idea how I kept the hysterical screaming bottled up so my cousin wouldn’t ship me off to an asylum.
Seriously, I had no warning, no idea it could even happen! I had as good as assumed it wouldn’t, AND THEN IT DID! And holy cow my heart soared and broke in the span of what, ten seconds? Fifteen?
And indeed, that was her first kiss, and YES, it was his last, and it’s awful and it’s sad, and it makes me want to sob all over again. God, reliving the Kalulu heartbreak is painful…

Do you think they will make gay couples in the next ATLA comics to make them consistenced with LoK comics? I don't mind that, but I wouldn't prefer if they decided to pair Azula with a girl, either with one in her group or -in worst cases- Ty Lee. I wouldn't like if the writers used her as shipping fodder to sell the new unhomophobic Fire Nation idea or make Ozai a terrible father because he never allowed Azula to date girls if they ever decided to make her to talk her past with him.
I can’t say I know, though ATLA has never even tried to delve into these matters before. Either ATLA will remain removed from these topics, or Bryke will indeed have the new writer address that too. But I don’t know, really, if they’ll use Azula this way. I don’t know.
Personally, I hope they won’t do that with Azula, because I dread the writer might commit an oversimplification of the matter of same-sex relationships + oversimplification of Azula’s character. It’s not only because of the shipping fodder, but the fact that Azula was born and raised in the apparently homophobic Fire Nation, and she was 100% supportive of that regime. This fact alone would make her potential transition into a more diverse Fire Nation kind of difficult.
We don’t even know if they’re going to make a point to show Zuko is being an accepting Fire Lord or not, if he will change the law and decriminalize these relationships, but whatever, my point is… unlike Zuko, who started defying his forefathers’ ideals, Azula hasn’t. If Azula were gay, which I don’t think she is, she’d have repressed her sexuality to the extreme, and helping her accept herself should probably be the subject of an entire comic, rather than something waved in suddenly just to please a group of her fans.
It’s funny because before the LOK comics said anything about sexuality in the Avatarverse, people could headcanon things much more freely than they can now. I frankly cannot understand how so many people interpreted the explanations on how homosexuality was CRIMINALIZED in the Fire Nation as proof that their same-sex Fire Nation ships were now 100% valid when… it was actually the entire opposite? Especially when it comes to Azula. She believed in her father, believed in his teachings, heck, the comics have her discarding him as a person, and yet still spouting the crap he hammered into her head about controlling everyone through fear. Someone who lived by Ozai’s beliefs as faithfully as Azula did wasn’t likely to rebel against him during the show, especially when it came to something that was criminalized. So saying Azula was engaged in a same-sex relationship during the show is now either mischaracterizing her/ignorant of the new canon regarding sexuality in the Fire Nation as established by LOK.
If someone wants to make a fic where she falls for any girl, and that makes her start questioning her father, fine by me! You go ahead! But saying this revelation makes every femslash Azula ship canon? People who say this are either joking, or they just have no grasp on Azula’s character whatsoever.
New comics would have to put in proper efforts to make Azula gay, and this time there’s no excuse not to do it. Korrasami is already canon, they’ve already established this franchise can and will portray same-sex relationships: ergo, there’s NO excuse to shoehorn Azula being gay with zero exposure or zero development, especially when making her gay could serve as a breaking point that would make her understand the wrong of her learned beliefs and distance herself from the Hundred Year War Fire Nation for good.
Personally, I don’t think she’s gay, but I know a ton of people do. So yes, I as well dread that they might write her as gay in the next comics just for fanservice purposes, and it’s not only because I never saw her like that. My main concern is that that sort of “revelation” would be the perfect gateway for a particular group of femslash shippers, who already have made a fair share of insulting posts attacking ships like mine, to feel extra entitled to attack anyone who ever dared ship Azula with a guy. Frankly, if Azula gets a canonical female love interest, I’d choose to see her as bisexual and still consider my ship perfectly valid. But for those groups of fans who have openly trashed straight Azula ships just because they’re straight, anything will be fair ground to “destroy the competition”. This would be just what they’d love to hear so they can start filling the tags of certain ships with hate, or the ask boxes of those shippers…
So for the sake of peace in Azula’s corner of the fandom, most of all, I’d rather they remain completely vague about Azula, her love interests and her sexuality. Even as it is now, things have gotten vicious-ish enough between different factions, hell, there’s even been some nasty fights within the same ship before… so I’d rather they don’t decide to cater to some people on these regards just for sales or whatever could be the motivation for ATLA’s comics.

how many chapter's in total will Gladiator have?
… This question is kind of banned and forbidden and can never be asked.
Because I legit can’t answer it.
I seriously don’t know.
You’ll have to wait until I’m done with it and then we’ll see how many chapters there will be :’D

Know some good Sokkla. Honestly, I do not like Sokka in the show or comics, but I am willing to give this pairing a try. I just haven't found any stories worth reading past the first 2 chapters. Either Azula is way too OOC or Sokka is...OR the plot line is just blah...
Well, I have made a few recommendation lists in the past few days, you can see them here and here. If any of the plotlines interest you, you can give those a try :)
As for OOC problems… it really depends on what’s your concept of the characters. But from where I see it… if you don’t like Sokka as a character, IC Sokkla fics might just turn you off further from the ship? xD
Alright, alright, being serious now. I don’t know why you dislike Sokka, but if you’re looking for IC Sokkla content you probably should look for stories where they’re around their canon ages. One big tendency with Sokkla (that I have joined in with, won’t lie) is aging the characters a little bit because, as it is in the show, it’s not easy to get Sokkla together. They have to be a little more mature, time can smooth over some of the wounds left over from the war, so if they’re older they’ll be in better circumstances to start a relationship, if given the right development.
I’ve written a fair share of fics, and I really tried to stay solid with characterization in the first ones. So, if you want to give The Reason a shot, feel free. It’s not my best story, I won’t deny that, but I did try to capture the feel of the characters post-ATLA and some people claimed I succeeded. Hopefully you’ll think so too, but I can’t be sure you’ll love it, so… good luck trying this one, I guess.
Curiously, another one that I THINK is mostly IC is It Had To Be You, a modern AU I wrote with the prompts of meeting online + high school AU. If modern AUs are not your thing, you can pass on it, but I tried to capture the feeling of the whole cast as teenagers, even having Team Avatar as one group of friends while Azula, Mai and Ty Lee were another one. But again, maybe you’re not after modern AUs so if you’re not interested, that’s okay. Though the banter Sokka and Azula had in this one was a lot of fun for me to write, I really look back fondly on this one.
I probably should refrain from suggesting Gladiator because while some people have said the characters are so very IC, there’s others who think the entire opposite of that. I think that, because I aged up Azula, I write her differently there (not to mention I gave her entirely new motivations), so I doubt you’ll want to give that a shot. But also, if you’re only testing the waters with Sokkla, it’s a pretty bad idea to tell you to read the longest fic of the fandom. If you eventually decide Sokkla is worth your time, Gladiator is a huge undertaking where I’ve worked my hardest to develop both of them believably after their first encounter is, uh… life-changing in a pretty negative way. So, if you would be interested in reading a huge Sokkla fic with a lot of Azula development, you can try Gladiator.
The Madness series by Keith B. Real is, I think, as IC as can be with Sokka and Azula under the circumstances they’re in. They’re literally fighting for survival the whole time, only working together because they have no choice, so if your problem with some Sokkla stories is that they force romance from the get-go, this saga absolutely doesn’t do that. It’s dark, but it’s pretty cool, so if you want to give it a shot, here’s the first installment. And here’s the second.
I also recommend the stories by Sokkaweekly, in general he wrote a very balanced characterization when it came to Sokkla (… can’t say I checked out everything else he wrote because I mostly stick to my ship, but I suspect it was good). So that’s another writer I suggest for good characterization.
If nothing in those lists I linked above, or the suggestions in this ask, seems good enough for you… well, thanks for trying anyways. Not everyone will love the same ships, but I am glad you kept an open mind about this one and tried to give it a chance.

Why do you hate the sun sets in the east post? it's really good.
Ugh… there’s a few reasons.
First off, I never wrote it with the intent of seeing it become as big as it got. I was amused by the initial responses, mainly because they were from the same people I always mess around with, and it was all done in good fun.
Suddenly it gets traction when someone points out that in one episode, the characters state outright that the sun sets in the west. Next thing I know, a fair number of the reblogs are mocking the initial post and all the discussion with the trademark “y’all are so stupid” Tumblr mentality, as if that reblog had actually destroyed the main post… which it didn’t. If anything, the reblog proved that the sunset scene was wrong in terms of worldbuilding because the ATLA crew had meant for their world to resemble ours in terms of sunsets and whatnot. Ergo, Zuko and Mai’s scene wasn’t thought through, that’s a fact.
So when those reblogs started, it really began to grind my gears because it’s just the typical mob-ish mentality you always see in Tumblr. Sure, it was funny, the reblog with that scene from Avatar Day was amusing at the start too, but it got old fast when people were that dismissive and even insulting regarding the main discussions, and the people involved in the discussions at times. It really was irksome for me.
Second, that’s probably my most popular post. I already developed mixed feelings about it, had grown to associate it with Tumblr saying we’re all stupid because we dared have a silly long-post discussion that got crazier and more complicated with each new addition, so it gets even worse when you consider that nothing else I’ve posted has garnered this much attention. I’m a content creator. I work hard on art and fics that won’t breach 100 notes except for a few exceptions (or maybe just one exception, tbh).
And yet I made a post of a single line, merely to poke fun at some mistakes in the show, and it gets blown out of proportion into a 2K notes post, of which the majority of the notes seemed to be as I explained above. Do you see how it would be a source of frustration for me?
Thirdly, it really clogs my activity feed when people start reblogging it again, and the actual useful notes from people and followers that do matter to me end up buried under the piles of “sun sets in the east” notes. So it annoys me that, of all the posts that could get popular, the one that did is this one. If I was getting 2K notes on a fic, on fanart, and people were saying useful things, great! But I’m getting 2K notes on this post? Really?
Basically, I can’t associate it with anything good anymore. Glad some people still find it funny, but it lost its spark for me a while ago.
