Sega Rally Championship!
Since I used to play the GBA version of Sega Rally, I drew myself some of the cars from the series, including the ones from the original Sega Rally.

Motorcycle Sport
Tumblr media
Pixel  art for today based on videogame Gp Rider for Sega Game Gear. It is such portable console from Sega, with power like 8 bit console like Sega Master System , NES. Game itself – it is sport arcade racing. About motorcycle sportsman. Short – racing game about motorcycle.
And this is my drawing. Also, about motorcycle, racing. This is first time, for me to show drawing of such complex thing like motorcycle and a racer. So, it is achievement! So, little wrong curve about circling the road. But, for fast drawing – it is ok, as a demonstration. It is cool to circle the road better for next time. So, just, more time to put into it.
And, so it is racing, time attack. Speed gives score. So, while you are racing fast – you receive more scores, racing with lower speed - gives less score. This is that, like score speed is transmitting into scores. Racing about checkpoints, as you reach it – you give amount of time. So, also such a simple visual. Track and background.

hey do you have any pc car racing game recommendations
fuck I mean. my entire library probably. though honestly the most fun I have with racing games are emulated, but I feel like that should be separate.
art of rally - gorgeous rally game. tough to start with due to very tight controls, but really satisfying to learn. I've spoken lots about it here before, just look for the "#art of rally" tag. no multiplayer, in fact there's only your car on the road, but it's really really good
Horizon Chase Turbo - it's one of those SNES-style racing games where the car is (kind of) static on the screen and the road is the one moving. it can get pretty hard but I think it's worth it due to the amount of content it has. hundreds of different tracks, great music, a lot of cars that are each very different, a lot of modes, three DLC campaigns, and 4-player multiplayer in every game mode.
The Crew 2 - open world racing game with all sorts of types of vehicles. it has a GIANT map with different US states. I honestly prefer it to Forza Horizon. it runs pretty well for a game of that scale, honestly! only buy this on discount.
Circuit Superstars - top-down circuit racer. it's really fun! there's a lot of different car types that all feel very different, online works pretty well (I only played with a friend tho I cant find people online). my favorite thing about it is just doing laps on time trials to try and cut my record time. it is pretty fun.
Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed - Mario Kart clone with SEGA characters (and some cameos). I like it a lot over Mario Kart because of its tighter controls and its Mission Mode, which is where most of my playtime went towards (I especially recommend Drift and Traffic events). Online mode also works super well. (note: this game has crashes in computers with Nvidia RTX cards. please look up this specific issue to find a patch or just ask me to find it for you)
Forza Horizon 4 and 5 - open world racing games that don't run super well and have a lot of annoyances but they are The Big Ones for no small reason. impossibly huge car list, very good handling controls, and a satisfying loop. plus, in FH5 there's plenty of Fate liveries to find as I've been putting them in every car I have 💀
V-Rally 4 or any other rally game you find that looks good - V-Rally 4 in specific has a lot of annoying performance issues but fuck I mean it's pretty fun. gorgeous game, great controls (in a controller!), fun cars and rally courses. sometimes levels can honestly feel like roller coasters more than anything, as I've taught myself to just take corners automatically, without thought. it goes EXTREMELY cheap on discount (Steam is getting a big sale in a week btw) but there's other rally games out there like Dirt Rally (which I haven't played yet) that may be worth it over it. I don't know!
overall though it disappoints me to say, it's not very easy to find truly great car games on PC, at least nowadays. I do like these games, and there's some others I liked that I don't have much to say about (NFS Heat, Assetto Corsa, Pixar Cars) but I think for racing fans, unless you want Simulation stuff which I really don't, you've gotta keep old console games with you too. PS1, PS2 and PSP emulators are your friends.
also Grand Theft Auto V and Online are great car games but I do not care for their racing modes. I think they're boring at best and "oh my god I hope all of these people die" at worst.
THANK YOU for the ask I genuinely love talking about this stuff

Preview - K-Project (aka Rez) on Страна игр #6 (Strana Igr)(Russian video game magazine) (2001-03)
Translation in English:
The ways of game design are inscrutable. Some talents find a successful formula once and spend their whole life working on it, trying to make one more, albeit small, step to perfection. Some try to develop within a single genre. Some are tempted to work with more than one. There are people who never go back to ideas already thought up and implemented once. Not Tetsuya Mitzuguchi, creator of Sega Rally and Space Channel 5, and leader of United Game Artists (formerly Sega RD#9 Shibuya), the most independent, self-imposed and liberated development studio.
It is hard to say what kind of games this man likes to make, for one of the leaders of modern game design looking, by the way, too young. His games are a celebration of style over substance. And at the same time a source of very deep gameplay. Realistic cars and wild Ulala. Competent skid physics and dancing aliens. Perhaps you will not find in the entire industry such a variety of taste, style, visual solutions. Space Channel 5, for all its innovative game structure and fiery 1960s beats, is a classic in every way. The designer's new project is so unique that it's hard to call it a game in the literal sense of the word. Mitzuguchi started to talk about the new project a long time ago, just a few days after the release of Space Channel 5. Mitzuguchi started to talk about the new project a long time ago, just a few days after the release of Space Channel 5. When it became known that the second series of SC5 UGA seemingly is not going to make (which turned out to be not at all true), the interest in the person of Mitzuguzhi increased incredibly again. By the way, even after the disclosure of K-Project details, many analysts believe that the UGA leader has one or even two more secret projects in stock.
Tetsuya Mizuguchi is his own person. Many journalists agree that he is the geekiest person on the Japanese gaming scene.
K-Project is a psychedelic musical shooter that brings together the genres of musical games and ordinary shooters, which, at least in Japan, have the same level of cult status as turn-based strategy and FPS. By combining such iconic genres Mitzuguchi intends to get a result that is completely free from genre frameworks and prejudices of ordinary players. Never mind that ninety percent of modern gamers won't understand this creation and will never even hear about it, but K-Project will be a real work of art.
The essence of the gameplay is extremely simple, although it is almost impossible to figure out how it all works in K-Project. The game is a set of minimalist levels without any plot connection to each other. Each level stands out with its own graphic style. Complex labyrinths, open space, all kinds of aquariums, even a tropical forest - all this has nothing to do with the essence of the game. In general, Mitzuguchi admits that his main idea is to create a game analogue of the famous Disney cartoon project Fantasia. Hence the inconceivable graphic forms, and a strange musical design. And it's strange because you will be creating it yourself. Singing out the traditional Treasure's frame of enemies and rhythmically firing them off, you will create your own melodies, which will be in many ways superimposed on the general musical background of the game. This, they say, is where the fun of the game lurks. Tying everything together in your brain is impossible. Apparently, this is what is called "intuitive gameplay. That is, even a minute before you sit down for the game, you have no idea how to play it, but as soon as you take the joypad in your hands, everything immediately becomes clear. Such a strange thing this K-Project is. However, even with all that, it's no less strange than its creator.
Platform: Dreamcast Genre: musical shooter Publisher: Sega Developer: United Game Artists Designer: Tetsuya Mitzuguchi Number of players: 1 Online: www.sega.co.jp Release date: summer 2001

Apparently I NEVER made a "Clockboy in Video Games" post, but I do, in fact, have some screenshots from some games saved on my computer... so I did some more digging and I have a pretty decent list of games he has appeared in!
"Clockboy" is the nickname I've given to the clockface on the "it's a small world" ride facade in the Disney theme parks. All of these are based primarily around the versions seen in the non-Paris version of the ride, so I unfortunately do not have any appearances listed of the sun/moon face.
If there are any I'm missing, feel free to tell me! These are important to my big Clockboy archive that I've been working on! :-)
For clarification, the qualifications for something to appear here are...
it must be include the clock face from the "it's a small world" facade -- this is my main interest regarding the history of the facade, so some games that feature it without the clockface are not included
this goes the same for if a game includes the song, but not the clockface, as well
(Note: a lot of this is based on research rather than first-hand experience playing most of these games, so apologies if I am missing things or incorrect about some info!)
Mickey no Tokyo Disneyland Stamp Rally (1996)
This is, as far as I can tell, his first appearance in a video game. This game is a Japan-exclusive on the Sega Pico. Essentially, you go around Tokyo Disneyland and complete mini-games to earn stamps. In the background of Fantasyland, you see a very silly looking Clockboy.
Tumblr media
Ultimate Ride (2001)
The next known appearance is in the game "Ultimate Ride", which had additional versions named "Ultimate Ride Coaster Deluxe" and "Disney Coaster" that were published in 2002. All three games were Disney's answer to the Roller Coaster Tycoon and Theme Park/Sims Theme Park series. I can't find a lot of specifics on small world's role in the game, as I have not played the games yet, but the version of the facade used is the one from Disneyland in the late 80's to early 2000's.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(images submitted by @/groonklie)
Virtual Magic Kingdom (2005)
I think I played VMK for like... a week in the mid-late 2000's. My cousins were really into it, which is the only reason I loosely remembered this game's existence enough to check for some small world presence, and sure enough, there is... but in the form of a store.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, in the same vein as Toontown Rewritten, it does look like there is a fan-made VMK project trying to recreate the game in the works, which seemingly is still updated... I might check it out at some point just for higher resolution screenshots of the in-game store.
Epic Mickey (2010)
I am 90% sure this is the most well-known video game appearance of Clockboy, where he appears as the first main boss of the game. He actually has two designs in this game, depending on whether or not the player chooses to defeat him (thinner route) or save him (paint route).
This is how he appears in the boss fight:
Tumblr media
...and this is how he appears afterward if you save him.
Tumblr media
His in-game design varies from some of the released Epic Mickey concept art (sourced from here)...
Tumblr media
...which varies from his appearance in Epic Mickey: Tales of Wasteland, where he looks pretty normal (sourced from here)...
Tumblr media
(there's also this zoomed out version of the facade that kills me... where is his face?! why is it white when the facade is clearly not when they're close to it?!)
Tumblr media
...which varies from his appearance in the graphic novelization (sourced from here)...
Tumblr media
Also, there's an in-game pin you can get with him if you choose to defeat him that looks closest to his graphic novel appearance:
Tumblr media
Kinect: Disneyland Adventures (2011)
Unsurprisingly, the whole facade makes in appearance in this game, since it's pretty much just a walking sim to enjoy the park (with some mini games thrown in for good measure). I haven't played this so I don't know much about it other than it looks a little uncanny, and Clockboy is extremely reflective, for some reason.
Tumblr media
Researching this game a bit more, I learned an artist I really like and have been following for a while on Twitter (@/shoomlah) posted a thread of some really nice concept art they did for the game, which you can view here!
Disneyland Explorer (2012)
Was unsure whether or not to count this one but it is technically a game, but in this iOS app, he's essentially just a picture. When you click on him, you get some trivia and it lets you play a mini-game.
Tumblr media
(source: this video by jsland)
Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two (2012)
He makes an appearance in the "dioramas" section of the game -- I have not played Epic Mickey 2 so I am not 100% familiar with the context of these (aside from them being dioramas based on boss fights from the first game)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is also some visdev work for this portion of the game where you can get a better view of his face minus the blooming lighting:
Tumblr media
Also, in this section, the little loading symbol has the most normal looking version of his face out of all of these
Tumblr media
The Epic Mickey Wiki is a good source for some more artwork and models, for those who are interested -- I won't put all of the files here, but it's really cool to see!
(Also, as far as I can tell, the clocktower did not return in Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, but I could be wrong)
Disney Infinity 2.0 and 3.0 (2014 and 2015)
After doing some digging, I found out that he has two different appearances in the Disney Infinity series: one as the whole facade (as an outdoor set piece)...
Tumblr media
...and one as just his face (as an interior item)...
Tumblr media
It appears the method of obtaining them was by tapping a Magicband to the scanner, which is pretty cute :'-)
Disney Emoji-Blitz (2016)
There appear to be two versions of him that appeared in Emoji Blitz... I cannot for the life of me find more detailed information about them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm not even 100% sure the one of just the clockface is in the game, but it comes up if you search the right phrase on google so *shrugs*
(Here it is at it’s normal size, the one above is blown up):
Tumblr media
Disney Magic Kingdoms (2016)
this is a mobile game with the typical mobile game issues but the facade design they use for small world is SOOOO cute... very reminiscent of Hong Kong Disneyland's version of the ride:
Tumblr media
Also when the ride is like, in the process of being built (cannot remember the lore-reason it's in darkness), it looks like this:
Tumblr media
Disney Wonderful Worlds (2021)
This is another mobile game appearance... This one is a little tricky to find as the game is already defunct as of mid-2022, so the only images I can find are through YouTube videos. Disney Wonderful Worlds is a match-3 and park builder game, and you eventually unlock the ability to place the attraction down and a VERY spinny Clockboy is on the facade.
Tumblr media
(source: this video from Rawerdxd)
Anyway, I believe this covers all his appearances! I hope I’m not missing any, but feel free to let me know if I am, and what the source is so I can add to this!
Sorry if any of the images are messed up on mobile view, I’m unsure how to fix it since Tumblr is actively hostile to images lately. :’-(

Arcade game examples
classic highscore games:
Pong: Pong is a two-dimensional sports game that simulates table tennis. The player controls an in-game paddle by moving it vertically across the left or right side of the screen. Some reasons as to why pong worked well as a game and was successful was because of it being a social game, it allowed other people to interact and the rules were simple, short and sweet.
Donkey Kong: Donkey Kong worked well as an arcade game because of the revolution they created big time in the gaming industry, introducing storytelling elements, new gameplay mechanics and had multiple levels where they would gradually increase in difficulty.
pac man: Pac Man did wonders as an arcade game as it was a game which allowed multiple people to play at once instead of it being a singular game. It was a game in which was able to be appealing to both genders of male and female and was playable for younger children.
shooters/ rail shooters:
House of the dead: House of the dead was popularised due to the repopularised of zombie games and its good controls for an arcade game. It was a good light game which focused on making the shooting satisfying.
Time Crisis: Time Crisis became popular due to its unique mechanics and gameplay. The games storyline revolved a fictional international intelligence agency that assigns its best agents to deal with a major threat by a hostile organisation. One of the unique game mechanics were the ability to duck into cover to dodge attacks and reload the players weapon.
Star wars Trilogy: Star Wars Trilogy Arcade game was popular for its immersive experience where players would be able to feel like they were apart of the game inside the world of the star wars universe due to having a reactive feel when you move the joystick which mimics the lightsabre.
Racing games:
Turbo: The game received positive reviews due to its challenging and realistic gameplay. They also had 2.5D colour graphics with changing scenery and a cockpit sit-down arcade cabinet.
Power drift: In the game their technology was a lot more advanced and so they had an entire world and trick which consisted of sprites. The technology advancement allowed them to have individual sprites and a rotating background making the visuals more dynamic.
Sega rally: Sega rally became a popular arcade game due to its realistic drift control, attractive graphics and because of their complex undulating rally courses.
fighting games:
street fighter: Street fighter became a big hit and very popular due to its unique mechanics and special moves which could only be discovered from experimenting with controls and was a competitive fighting game in which others could play in too.
mortal combat: Mortal combat became one of the most popular video games due to its big catalogue of unique techniques for each fighter character in the game and their backstory.
Tekken: Tekken was one of the first games in which you could control the very first four limbs of your own character inside the game which made the game more engaging and challenging.
Brawler games:
Final fight: Final fights success was due to a lot of its fast aced kinetic fighting. The art design of the game too with its amazing soundtracks. The game included of huge sprites and fluid gameplay.
captain commando: Captain Commando was a popular arcade game due to its fun and humours storyline.
The Simpsons: The Simpsons became a popular game from their brilliant and vibrant 2D visuals of the game, with good sampled sounds and clever animations.
Interactive:
dance dance revolution: This game was a popular aracade game because of its combined rhythm, dexterity and fitness to challenge gamers to stomp on the arcade machines pressure sensitive footpads in time with the music and on screen prompts.
air hockey: Its popularity in arcades and entertainment canters in the 1970s and 1980s led to the development of other arcade games that required very quick reflexes and hand-eye coordination.
Skee ball: A pretty big reason for its popularity was because it was one of the games in which dispenses the highest amounts of tickets for the least amount of playtime. This made it to be a game in which made it a social activity where friends and family could have a great time.

Ride Star
Tumblr media
Pixel art for today based on videogame Outrun for Sega Master System. This is 8 bit videogame system, just like NES. Somewhere in the end of 80s- beginning of 90s. Or whole 90s, it is depends on your gaming experience.
Videogame in genre of racing. But not casual, where you ride to finish line. And it is a ride with the wind. This is not rally, where sport racers have challenge each other, and it is just a ride. Just for fun, and for good vibes. Good weather, good auto, good speed. And you are just riding above the horizon. Just for this feeling. So, at least, personally I understand the game series this way. I have played in Outrun 2006 Coast to Coast.
And now to my drawing. This is my pixel art. I draw it by myself. For training. This is someway clone-drawing. So we need here to ride with the wind. 8 bit direction riding for positive.
Feel yourself star for the ride. And ride with the wind. So this is idea. You don’t need to overrun opponents. Maximum you can to avoid another cars traffic. And that’s all. Turn on something positive. Rock or electronic. It is exists some positive music. And you are a star of the ride! Flying to the horizon. To overrun 8 bit horizon.
This is pixel art. For training.

Yknow, I often say “I’ve played a LOT of racing games these past few years!” but never actually bothered to check the numbers. I do literally have a list of (nearly) all games I’ve played since 2021 so let’s check that out!
- Grand Theft Auto V (car game it counts) - art of rally - Racing Lagoon (fuck, that was 2021???) - Horizon Chase Turbo - Forza Horizon 5 - The Simpsons: Road Rage - Everywhere Road Trip - Mario Kart 64 - Gran Turismo - L.A. Noire (does that count? not really that much of a car game... then again it’s a car CHASE game so...) - Lonely Mountains Downhill (does THAT count??? oh I never said it needed to be cars.) - Enduro - Choro-Q (HG4) - Cars - Forza Horizon 4 - The Pointless Car Chase - Slipstream - Ridge Racers 2 - Far Cry 5 (doesn’t count because cars really are just a transportation method more than a core mechanic imo like even when ur doing important stuff in the car its stuff youd be doing outside the car anyway. but I’m mentioning so that you all know that when you use the handbrake there’s a fucking animation for it. your guy moves their hand to the handbrake and it makes a handbrake lever noise. I don’t think even forza does that) - Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam - Test Drive Unlimited - Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero - Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift 2 - Need for Speed Heat - auto modellista - R4 Ridge Racer Type 4 - Need for Speed Underground 2 - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Hot Wheels Unleashed - F355 Challenge - Grand Theft Auto San Andreas - Street Supremacy - Assetto Corsa - Turbo Dismount (?) - Need for Speed Porsche Unleashed - Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing - Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed - Enthusia Professional Racing - Gran Turismo 2 - Absolute Drift - The Long Drive - Inertial Drift - Ridge Racer - Initial D Special Stage - OutRun 2 SP - Midnight Club 3 - Gran Turismo (PSP) - Circuit Superstars
excluding Far Cry 5, that’s 47 games. that’s not even including some stuff I played in 2020 that isn’t here. that’s not even including Gadget Racers, which for some reason wasn’t listed. what on earth is wrong with me

New Game Express - Rez on Game Players magazine Vol.16 (Video game magazine)(Hong Kong)(18/07/2001)
Translation in English:
Rez Alternative Shooting Game
The next generation of music games!
In the software release party "Playstation 2 Party" on June 27, the game's art designer Tetsuya Mizuguchi demonstrated this one and the game himself. According to him, what they want to design is a game that makes players comfortable to play, and the rules of the game are simple and easy to understand, in addition to the current shooting games are becoming less and less, it seems to be a problem of difficulty. He thought back to his previous 3D game "Star Force", which only used Wire Frame to create, but it already made him forget to play. So the idea of creating this game started.
Tetsuya Mizuguchi demonstrating Rez at PlayStation 2 party on the same day
Mizuguchi's masterpieces include SEGA Rally Championship and Channel 5
Innovative 3D shooting
Basically, in this game, just like a general three-dimensional shooting game, use the laser of the machine to shoot at the enemies that appear. But if the hitting time is in line with the requirements of the game, the background music will have subtle changes, and the screen will also have bright visual effects. These music and video effects have become the biggest features of this game.
The picture is full of psychedelic flavor
Simple operation brings a sense of fast game
The operation in the game is very simple, if you want to release the missile, you only need to press the button; Do you want to use the laser? It's not difficult at all, as long as you move the cursor to the target enemy and press LOCK ON, the laser will be released automatically when you release the key, hitting the enemy. Operation is so simple!
Hitting enemies will have different effects
A different kind of pleasure
As the game progresses, enemies will keep appearing in each level, so players must keep repelling them. For this reason, the background music and special sound and light effects in the game will continue to appear, thus combining different music and videos! And after the special arrangement of the game, the music "played" will be intoxicating modern music, Don't forget to shoot because of the music!
This is indeed part of the game screen
Create your own style of "Rez"!
For example, if you knock down several different enemies separately, or release a lightning shot after LOCK ON once, the music and sound and light effects will also be different, so different players will have different "playing" methods to pass the level . Can you create your own unique way of "playing"?
It's a pity that you can't hear music in the book, otherwise everyone can enjoy the atmosphere in the middle of the book
Machine type: PS2/DC Manufacturer: SEGA / UGA Price: undecided Capacity: DVD-ROM/GD-ROM memory: unknown Release date: Scheduled for autumn Game Type: SHT
