ceo's son!mingi is prickly and grumpy and doesn't want anything to do with you, because he wants to marry someone he meets and falls in love with naturally; instead, the choice is taken away from him and suddenly you're his fiance?

he tries to act petty and childish, like that time you bring him lunch to his office - some handmade rice balls - and he just huffs that he doesn't like sesame seeds before dismissing you, even though he adds sesame seeds to everything. except you manage to surprise him every single time, including when, about half an hour later, he hears a soft knock on his door and you walk in again with the rice balls. "i picked out all the sesame seeds for you," you tell him sincerely, a little hesitantly, like you are a child showing your parents a drawing you made at school. how can he possibly pretend to stay snappy? even the sharpest knife dulls.

and so it becomes routine. you bring him lunch when you can and he shares bites with you. he's hardly ever grumpy anymore (when he is, it's because he is missing a certain somebody who is too busy to bring him food). mingi notices you haven't added sesame seeds ever since that day, or on the rare, rare occasion that you do, he watches adoringly as you pick them out one by one with your chopsticks. he thinks that if this isn't true love, then he doesn't know what is.

mingi spends the rest of his life pretending that he doesn't like sesame seeds and eating handfuls of them behind your back so he doesn't get sesame seed withdrawal symptoms. the end.

One more set of chapters until the heist. I’m beyond excited for it, but there is just a tad more set up to do. I can’t help thinking what I’m going to do with my free time after this is published even though there is still plenty of work to do to get it out the door. Maybe another book. Maybe I’ll just sleep. Maybe I’ll finally finish refinishing the front door...

The workstation is empty. Whoever dropped off the convertible for repair came to pick it up about a half hour ago, so all that's left is a sparse tool cabinet. Elia stands in the middle of the space, arms crossed in front of her chest. Otto stares on from his own workstation — probably. She can feel his eyes on her back, an odd pressure between her shoulder blades and a tingling along her neck.

He's pitying her. Or it's all in her mind, but she dismisses that thought with a shake of her head.

Duffie's workstation — rather, no one's now — is suffocating: how barren it is, how quiet. She did this; she drove them away. Her crossed arms tighten, constricting around her chest and digging into her ribs.

On top of the cabinet, a sliver of afternoon light pierces the clouds and glints off the mirror-like, metal shaft of a screw driver. Her heart freezes at the image; her breath hangs in her throat, burning. The polished, gold surface of her pocket mirror flits through her mind. It's close. Just through the door to her office and nestled among papers in the top drawer of her desk.

Biannual rewatch of the Collapse DLC. I get the distinct impression that the writers didn't. Quite understand Faith and defaulted to stock abused cult princess tropes. Obviously every Herald is a lot more volatile and vulnerable around Joseph than they are around the Deputy but Faith I think winds up reading much more. Hapless and naive. What was interesting about Faith in FC5 to me is she always seemed like she was a little more aware of her circumstances than she wanted to admit to herself. More than that she was a talented manipulator and extremely lucid, even holding Joseph at arm's length to avoid jeopardizing her own power/repeating the mistakes which got her predecessors killed. I think there could have been something interesting done if it had dove a little more into Joseph's cognitive dissonance on the subject, on his mental insistence that she remains his sweet innocent (dependent) Faith its clear that she's playing his own game back at him, telling him what he needs to hear to ensure her own survival
