was on twitter (oops) and theres a ton of people going apeshit over kanaya in the upd8 (hs:bc upd8) right obviously and i saw one (1) post about "still hating hs2. jade would not fucking do this" and like. huff.

fosmf if youre there and youve read the hsbc update tell me your thoughts on this. im so curious

in MY opinion, i really like jade in postcanon in general. OBVIOUSLY, the stuff with davekat SUCKS + IS WEIRD + outb of character (i doubt jade would cross boundaries in such a weird way? like a girl can take a hint esp for the people she loves.) but in the update it goes over jade and why she did what she did and like a cute little summary of the yiffy situation. i never really hated yiffy? and i hate yiffy even less with the update. narration + backstory with reasoning did its job.

SUMMARY, AS I SEE IT: jade was dating around mortals but came to the conclusion that they dont want HER, they want to say they dated the GOD OF SPACE. they wanted clout and she hated it. and i dont know. i think she went a little crazy cus of it. she was like I am truly alone in this world. Im cursed to be alone. Im doomed because of my aspect. How can i fix this. solution: HAVE A BABY. and it needs to be one of her god friends. she cant have a baby with a random mortal. john and dave are boys; they cant bear children. she cant have a baby with roxy or jane because she doesnt know them well. that leaves: rose lalonde so jade has a baby with rose lalonde and keeps it a secret. she talks to jane, and this is fine because its largely professional, and she makes sure yiffany (the baby) doesnt become a celebrity. yiffy is normal. yiffy is a normal kid and she has a normal life. jade needs her to have a normal life. jade needs to feel that connection with normality that she never had, jade needs to make sure yiffy doesnt go through the same damn thing she did. and she keeps it a secret. she bonded with rose. if kanaya finds out, thatll tear all three of them apart. jade craves the company. jade craves friendship and closeness. but of course, shes a space player and shes doomed. so they find out. and yiffy gets on the news. and everything is torn

ANYWAY: i think thats so cool. i think thats a great explanation. i think jade WOULD do that is the thing. its a logical train of thought and she makes some stupid mistakes and bad decisions but overall its rational. if i was in her situation i would probably do the same thing. yiffany longstocking is like jade harleys' my love mine all mine by mitski you get me. jade harley yearns for the closeness and having a baby can fill that. what other option did she have? she was crazy

if you are genuine want to know the real answer is that, tbh, I never drawn any davekat in my entire life.,,,, and the only homestuck art Ive ever drawn was karkat but that was like around 2012 so........ yeah

lucy killie and nova are of the homestuck generation. a young killie took a lot of gender presentation from dave and a young nova projected a lot onto dirk. lucy was a little obsessed with aradia and shipped her with vriska in secret. karina's scrunkly is karkat. hanne doesn't give a shit

damien and 02, if they haven't already read it, have it near the top of their list. damien loves all the trolls but especially equius and nepeta. 02 was one of those readers that picked up on davekat early on but expected nothing from it until suddenly getting vindicated way later.

01 has no knowledge of homestuck and if someone were to tell her about it lucy would shoot them with a gun. bellatrix has read the entire thing and has little to say about it. violet has doc scratch on her kin grid but if you ask her about homestuck she'll stare at you with a smile and zero other response.

Also bisexual Rose and bisexual Kanaya are better than Davekat and make me happy. Bisexual erasure makes me mad.

Part of that is because her genki girl personality soon fades by the time her Dream Self dies and upon entering the game. And she acted more angry than ever. Not because of the fact she had KARKAT as her troll guide and prior to the trolls deciding to help the Beta Kids, the trolls constantly bother her, much to her annoyance. Did they forget how uncomfortable she felt when she saw Eridan speaking with her and how she says how he tries to flirt with her a lot? And people think she is bad for WANTING TO MEET WITH HER FRIENDS AFTER BEING SO DAMN LONELY ON AN ISLAND!!! They forget this girl was raised only by Bec, a DOG. Her being seen as a bitch by the fandom amplified when she got MIND CONTROLLED by Her Imperious Condesce to become Grimbark Jade. They think all the evil actions she did like trying to kill Wayward Vagabond, was on her own, not by the FRIGGING ALIEN HITLER QUEEN WHO HAD SO MANY POWERS THAT WAS PUPPETIERING HER!!!

People who think it was Jade was willing to do bad things under The Condesce's control is stupid. They are even STUPIDER if they think Dave thinks Jade is evil for trying to do this when it's clear she is not herself anymore. But hey, people have been mind controlled before and nobody blames Vriska. Tavros being crippled? It's not Vriska's fault, IT IS TAVRO'S FAULT FOR JUMPING OFF A CLIFF!!! Terezi blinding herself? IT IS TEREZI'S FAULT FOR LOOKING UP AT THE SUN!!! Bec Noir's existence? IT'S JOHN'S FAULT FOR FALLING ASLEEP, NOT VRISKA WHO MADE HIM EXIST IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! The worst of it comes in Epilogues where she wants to have kids and sexually harass Karkat. In this day and age, having kids or a family is bad. Especially when you were a lonely girl living on an island for so damn long, away from people, including the friends she has been wanting to meet for years. Then when Homestuck 2 comes it, she and Rose had a secret child behind Kanaya's back. If it's not Rose's fault for cheating, then people will blame Jade on asking Rose to help her make a kid. The nu-fandom hates Jade. Andrew Hussie hates Jade. WhatPumpkin hates Jade. And now in Beyond Canon, James Roach and HICU hate Jade if they shafted her from getting character development again. Funny thing is, some of the girls in the fandom had once projected themselves as Jade. Part of it is the silly quirky girl personality and wanting to ship themselves with Dave. The same was applied to Nepeta for Karkat. But now, it's considered a bad thing to think of yourself as any of the two girls. They are ashamed for being quirky girls (while still liking quirky girls in other modern media). They now insert themselves as either Karkat or Dave for Davekat. Bisexual Rose and bisexual Kanaya are better than Davekat. Don't be afraid to ship them with guys. Stop bi erasure!

clawed my way through (some of) the epilogues and hs^2 again for dirkjake crumbs and i think there is a Genuine place for ultimate jake to fit into canon (or at the very least, lord jake english) since meat timeline jake never actually shows up visually in hs^2 and his final appearance in that timeline (minus a phone call or something w/ roxy? or was it kanaya fuck) is giving ult. dirk his spaceship and then proclaiming his undying love while desperately trying to get dirk to let him join him, to which dirk responds that he’ll “never let [jake] break [his] heart again” (ch39). agony.

two interesting things about the end of his arc in meat actually: for one thing, it’s kinda implied that along with giving dirk a spaceship, he also gave dave/karkat/roxy/kanaya/etc a spaceship to chase after him, so he’s at least taken some action to try to stop him. again though, we never see him after that point so like. the idea that he could just hope himself into becoming an ultimate self in the background is actually kind of a possibility?? like while the others try to chase dirk down, jake is figuring out how to brute force himself into ascension as a backup plan. second thing, dirk is very snarky in the narration about the fact that this dramatic goodbye he’s giving jake is the last time he’ll ever get to see him (jake see dirk, i mean) but ult. dirk also seems to lack power against alt. calliope when they fight over the narrative so jake ascending would actually pose a serious threat and might be able to override that, assuming dirk’s power over the narrative extends that far in the first place (thinking about that post talking about how narration is also a reflection of characters’ thoughts…)

candy timeline jake is also pretty interesting since he very notably starts being advised by BGD to be a kind of spy on the inside against jane’s. whole thing in that timeline. i actually completely cannot remember what jane does in the meat timeline, i think also some presidency bullshit, right?? that’s what the davekat thing was about??? but anyway BGD sounds pretty normal in all his dialogue, or normal for BGD at least, and is aware of both the game over timeline and ult. dirk’s bullshit enough to make fun of it so. idk maybe i’m just misunderstanding how ultimate selves work, but the fact that BGD wasn’t really “integrated” into ult. dirk feels significant to me, especially considering the fact that we can see caliborn/LE’s influence on ult. dirk so much (his narration in ch39 gives AR too, frankly, like the epilogues are obvs way more openly horny than hs proper but AR was always kinda like that too, especially about jake). hs^2 also ends super abruptly with some lore shit i skimmed half heartedly between calliope, roxy, and john again talking about his initial decision between candy and meat. that whole conversation pretty deliberately frames the decision between meat and candy as being parallel to terezi’s coin flip about whether or not to kill vriska, and roxycallie even tell john straight up that he needs to get vriska again to fix the story, perhaps assuming that’ll work again since it did when he was retconning the timeline? but imo, though maybe i’m biased cause i didn’t really review what vriska does post-canon again, it seems more fitting to me that jake would be the one to fix the bullshit timelines, considering 1. dirk is the one going bananas out of his fucking mind w/ control of the narrative, 2. thematically, pumpkins are the most logical, healthy alternative to meat and candy, fitting since caliborn explicitly aligns dirk and jake’s color scheme with them in the smut-drawing conversation and since (in the same breath) he establishes that he hates them and prefers meat/candy. but that’s getting into sherlock secret final episode levels of conspiracy, and i’m not sure i’m ready for that one

Well, as I'm writing a story idea just now, I thought, "Oh, wouldn't it be funny if I made this random story into Homestuck fanfiction?" And because I'm a little... you know... I rolled with it.
