Aber die Firma Clearview AI verfügt über 3 Milliarden Fotos. Die meisten stammen von Facebook, wo die Menschen unbekümmert ihre Bilder posten, obwohl in den AGBs "deutlich" steht, dass man mit dem Hochladen alle seine Rechte an dem Bild auf Facebook überträgt.

Nun darum schert sich Clearview auch nicht, denn einen Teil seiner riesigen Bildersammlung hat sich Clearview durch das sogenannte Screen Scraping , das Abfotografieren von Bildschirminhalten, verschafft. Das hat auch keine Folgen, denn ein namhafter Anteilseigner von Clearview ist gleichzeitig im Aufsichtsrat bei Facebook.

Obwohl nach Berichten über die riesige Bildersammlung bei Clearview in der New York Times und dem daraus resultierende Medienecho in de r US-Politik beispielsweise der US-Senator der Demokratischen Partei Ron Wyden forderte, dass amerikanische Staatsbürger wissen müssten, ob ihre Fotos heimlich in Datenbanken landen – nutzen kanadische und amerikanische Behörden die Datenbank bereits für ihre Zwecke.

Verschiedene Polizeibehörden sind von der hohen Trefferrate überzeugt, denn Clearview verspricht inzwischen eine Treffergenauigkeit von bis zu 98,6 Prozent und einer Trefferhäufigkeit von 30 bis 60 Prozent, die sich aber mittlerweile auf bis zu 80 Prozent verbessert haben soll.
