I enjoyed Secret Crush on You all the way through. Most BL series are largely improbable, for many reasons, (mostly reality reasons), but this was a sweet fairy-tale-like story, with some added realities (bullying, shaming), that are there to help young viewers with the harsher realities of life.
I just loved the sweet, “happily ever after” tone of the final episodes. I love the BL world—where kids (and adults) can be gay, lesbian, non-binary, or transgender and very few people even bat an eye, where parents are fully accepting, and where classmates don’t bully, or even think it’s odd, in any way.

Turtles Catches Up With Old GMMTV: Secret Crush On You (SCOY) Edition
[What’s going on here? After joining Tumblr and discovering Thai BLs through KinnPorsche in 2022, I began watching GMMTV’s new offerings -- and realized that I had a lot of history to catch up on, to appreciate the more recent works that I was delving into. From tropes to BL frameworks, what we’re watching now hails from somewhere, and I’m learning about Thai BL's history through what I’m calling the Old GMMTV Challenge (OGMMTVC). Starting with recommendations from @absolutebl on their post regarding how GMMTV is correcting for its mistakes with its shows today, I’ve made an expansive list to get me through a condensed history of essential/classic/significant Thai BLs produced by GMMTV and many other BL studios. My watchlist, pasted below, lists what I’ve watched and what’s upcoming, along with the reviews I’ve written so far. Today, I offer my thoughts on the importance of Saint Suppapong's and Cheewin Thanamin's Secret Crush on You in the annals of Thai BL history.]
I offer a very hearty THANK YOU to my dear friends @lurkingshan and @bengiyo for reviewing this draft before publication!
Well! A VERY belated happy new year from the OGMMTVC shores! I have allowed myself a lengthy onboarding back to the pattern of watching older Thai BLs due to many life circumstances around the 2023 holidays.
But I do still stay on my grind: while I was slowly watching and re-watching SCOY over the last month, I've added two current shows to the list, which I'll explain about later, and I've also taken up reading an incredibly important book to this project, Dr. Thomas Baudinette's ethnographic study, Boys Love Media in Thailand, which is giving me tremendous insight and history into the development of the Thai BL genre from direct reporting in Asia. In other words, the OGMMTVC project is still cooking along -- I'll plan to post about the book when my current watchlist is at a pause, while current shows on the list are airing.
All that being said, I'm here today to report on my watch of 2022's Secret Crush on You. Here's a little outline to keep me organized:
1) A quick reminder of how SCOY got on the OGMMTVC list, 2) A thematic hit list of why SCOY belongs on the list, and why it's so important for the history of Thai BL, and 3) A few personal takes on the show.
SCOY got on the OGMMTVC list way back in May 2023, in the comments of my glowing review of the second season of Make It Right, suggested by @absolutebl Sensei themself. SCOY is directed by Cheewin Thanamin, who had co-directed MIR and MIR2 along with New Siwaj. (He is also, famously AND infamously, the director of the recent shows Playboyy and Middleman's Love, as well as many other shows, including YYY, Why R U, and more.)
At the time of my watch of MIR2, I reveled in the fabulous endings of TeeFuse and FrameBook, the holistically loving and embracing relationships of those two couples, who were fearlessly and openly queer and committed to each other; and I compared those endings to that of another fabulous Cheewin show, 2023's Bed Friend, which also ended glowingly, after a hell of a traumatic journey, for the dear mains, KingUea.
SCOY, from a growth perspective, fits between the high school world of MIR and the working adult world of Bed Friend, showcasing Toh, the stalker-shy university junior outcast; Nuea, the popular, athletic, and gorgeous university senior, and their respective groups of friends, who, to a tee, end up with each other. In the comments of my MIR2 review, @absolutebl wrote,
"...there is a case to be made that Cheewin is having a conversation with us[,] the culmination of which is actually SCOY. It feels like everything in his career was leading to that show[.]"
I believe this is absolutely right. While the public commentary on SCOY was that the first few episodes would be hard to digest -- for me, it took until episode *9* to feel comfortable enough to ride the SCOY train -- the amount of internal and external-to-BL themes that SCOY carries within it marks it as an incredibly important show for the annals of Thai BL history.
I also want to note that, after SCOY, Cheewin's War of Y also airs in 2022, as a macro commentary on the BL industry. Without having seen War of Y yet -- I think it makes sense, and is quite fitting, that there may be similar themes between these two shows as to what SCOY was addressing by way of personal and industry-related psychologies.
I'll get into those themes in a second, but as so many of you know as well: this was also the first production for Saint Suppapong's agency, Idol Factory, featuring (for 2022) a slate of incredible new QL actors and actresses who have already made a fast and deep impact on the genre (...fast and deep impact huh huh ANYWAY).
Putting ourselves into Saint's shoes -- a man well familiar with the pitfalls of the BL industry, vis à vis his associations with his previous PerthSaint and ZeeSaint ships -- I can make a safe assumption that he approached the production of SCOY with the intent to make a groundbreaking show, and to approach the fan service side of the BL industry with as much consciousness for his actors as possible. While I'm not watching Idol Factory's latest show, The Sign, I am noting that The Sign's two stars, Billy Patchanon (of SCOY) and Babe Tanatat are very good at their fan service offerings. (Heng in this video, omg.) But all that being said, the unfortunate incident last year of the untimely revelation of Seng Wichai's and Freen Sarocha's relationship indicates that Idol Factory is also not immune to the controversies and pitfalls of the BL and shipping industries.
What I particularly loved about SCOY -- and why I agree with @absolutebl and many BL fandom veterans that it belongs on the OGMMTVC list -- is that this show unabashedly insisted that all people are people, all humans are equitably humans, and all humans deserve the same emotional and social respect as anyone else. It punched social expectations of the "winners" and "losers" down to the ground to offer nuanced narratives of most of its characters.
We see Toh (Seng Wichai) and his group of friends repeatedly put down and bullied. We see Toh and Jao kicked to the ground for their looks and presentations. We see popular Nuea (Billy) and Sky (Heng Asavarid) suffering from jealousy, insecurity, unrequited love and desire. We see Nuea and Sky objectified. We see Daisy question themself for their femme identity, and we see Daisy's group of friends become so moved and emotional about this change as to both uplift Daisy's preferences and to support them in whatever changes they want to make.
We also see -- for only the second time on the OGMMTVC list, and surely in the biggest BL up til 2022 -- a prominent femme side character in Daisy, one who is very much pursued by a cis male suitor in Touch. (The first time we see such a prominent femme character on the OGMMTVC syllabus is, again, in Cheewin's Make It Right 2, in the character of Yok, who was very out and very gay throughout that season.)
I'm going to examine this more in just a bit, but I also want to note, in a fabulous conversation I had with @bengiyo about SCOY, that this show also somewhat upends social expectations of who exactly gets bullied in a "typical" school setting. We do very much see Toh and his friend group get attacked. We see that friend group come together in support of each other. But we also see them very much accepted, as they are, by the older, more popular friend group.
There are many more examples of these themes, but in any case:
These were nuanced, layered, and sophisticated depictions of humanity, all for a show within the BL genre that had started its journey, way back in 2014, in demanding clear seme/uke dynamics and male/female characteristic assumptions between main couples. SCOY clearly took great pains to examine and upend these assumptions. In particular, the hot tub conversation in episode 9 had me going wild; a conversation that has become legendary as it was the first time (and not the last!) that a character of Billy Patchanon's stated that he was verse:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
By the time we get to 2022, I love what this conversation signifies for Thai BL. From SOTUS's Kongpob saying that he'll make Arthit his wife; to Pat clarifying to BOTH Pran AND Phupha, "I'm not your wife" -- and, now in SCOY, to Nuea being like, "oh, roles? Yeah, whateves, I'm down," is such a refreshing spin to the conversation about the demands that the genre, AND society, place on hulking cis-presenting men like Nuea/Billy.
Of course, the biggest upending to any assumptions that viewers (including myself) may have had about the dynamics between the two main couples of NueaToh and SkyJao was in seeing how deeply insecure both Nuea and Sky were of the stability of their relationships with their boyfriends in Toh and Jao. Nuea and Sky both recognized that it was literally society itself -- and the very deep internal impacts that society could have on the psyches of the nerdy Toh and Jao -- that could threaten the sanctity of Nuea's and Sky's relationships.
Nuea and Sky weren't relying or assuming on their good looks or popularity ranks to win Toh and Jao over. Nuea and Sky were very much in love with these two men, and both wanted to have holistically complete and committed relationships with their boyfriends. And Nuea and Sky WORKED for these relationships, and feared the worst, often, if an internal obstacle (like Jao's insecurity) or external obstacle (like the girls in pursuit of Nuea) got in their way.
@bengiyo, in reference to my conversation with him earlier, mentioned a social shade to all of this that I found fascinating. He noted that this show did NOT interrogate the "weirdness" of Toh and his friend group. I'm actually going to criticize that just a touch in a bit, because I would have liked more background context into Toh, myself. However, Ben makes an important point about this, because he noted to me that majority society WOULD interrogate the origins of Toh's "weirdness" -- and would NOT interrogate the popularity, good looks, and success of Nuea and his group, because majority society would well assume that Nuea and his group are... "normal."
I find these instinctual inclinations to be FASCINATING to ponder, and I really think SCOY did a wonderful job in allowing us as viewers an "in" to a loving alternate reality that those who are considered "weird" in this world deserve a fair and equitable shot at love and acceptance from all corners. Ben noted for me that MUCH more often in majority society, that being queer makes someone vastly unpopular. (Ben also noted for me that what SCOY posits for Nuea and Sky by way of their queer presentations against their popular standings would likely have led to them being ostracized in real life.)
I want to note that this loving alternate reality for the unpopular is almost exactly similar to another fictional environment created by Cheewin in Make It Right -- which prompted an early and memorable conversation between Ben and me early in this project. (Thank you so much to @bengiyo for giving me time and space to read and comment on this SCOY piece.)
I want to posit -- again, without having seen War of Y -- that all of this is fascinating territory for Idol Factory, in its first show, to tread by way of humanizing IF's gloriously good-looking talent in Billy, Heng, and others. I'll know more by way of comparison when I actually watch War of Y -- but I think SCOY does a FABULOUS job in slowly leading viewers to contemplate our assumptions about how "easy" it might be to be a good-looking and/or athletic person in society. Insecurity and instability are common characteristics among all of us. SCOY very decidedly skewers any assumptions that viewers, and society, may have about the "transcendent" nature of the show's fictional "celebrities" to bring all of its characters down to a more common and equitable human level.
By a long shot, these themes are the ones that I loved absolutely the most about SCOY. I have a few personal takes on the show that I'll share in just a moment, but one more shout of celebration that I'd like to offer to SCOY is the following:
Of all the excellent acting in this show -- from Billy, to Heng, to the utterly DELIGHTFUL Looknam Orntara as Som, to the fabulous Surprise Pittikorn as a conflicted and insecure Jao -- let me offer all the flowers to
Seng Wichai, who had me CRINGING, OMG, *CRINGING*, throughout most of SCOY.
I hope this man won AWARDS for this role. All of my feelings towards the character of Toh aside -- Seng Wichai absolutely BODIED this role. I was SQUIRMING during the first three quarters of this series. God, he NAILED every last characteristic that would make a person like Toh so interpretively painful and pitiful. That Seng left Idol Factory last year, before his relationship with Freen was exposed, is, I think, a huge loss for IF. I know War of Y is chaotic, but I actually can't wait to watch it simply to see another side of Seng's acting.
For Seng's Toh to be pursued so intensely by Nuea -- and for Toh to be so Toh throughout that pursuit -- I truly can't think of a past BL actor from the past OGMMTVC dramas that could have done a better and more nuanced job than Seng Wichai to just remain so COMMITTED to Toh's modus operandi of stalking and collecting, especially so DEEP into the 14-episode run.
I will admire Seng's performance endlessly. My very own personal take on SCOY -- which I do not want to detract from its importance in the BL genre annals -- was that I think some of Cheewin's typical chaotic flourishes did not quite comport with the complicated emotionality that SCOY otherwise served.
At the end of the series, we meet Toh's parents in rural Suphanburi -- but we don't get a sense throughout the series of why Toh decides to pursue Nuea only from afar, in stalker-like actions, for so very long. Again, this stalker behavior is only presented as an MO -- and as @bengiyo noted to me, that was likely on purpose, as a means of showing that Toh's friend group would be accepting of each other NO MATTER their unique characteristics.
We also have to wait a VERY long time in the series for Toh to be held accountable for his stalking actions, as he even continues to collect items well into his relationship with Nuea. The flip side of this is an empathic one -- he's collecting the items out of an assumption, on his end, that his relationship with Nuea WILL end. However, it's made clear that Toh had no intention to ever tell Nuea of this side of Toh's behavior.
There were other moments in the show that tonally confused me, particularly in episode 5, the first time that the group goes to the beach, where Toh is in the hotel room with Nuea for the first time, and is both overtly confident that he might get it on with Nuea, but also seems reluctant to actually pursue it once Nuea starts offering hints. I worked this out with @lurkingshan (thank you, friend!) that Toh was demonstrating a brave face and fantasy to start, but was surprised when Nuea actually reciprocated the consideration. This happened a couple of times throughout the show, and Shan's assessment makes absolute sense -- I think I could have used some language clarity around those scenes myself, particularly when Toh was talking postgame with his friends after those moments, that he was surprised by Nuea's acceptance. But, @lurkingshan -- your assessment of the pattern holds, and I understand it.
Once I finished the series, I read @absolutebl's 2022 review of SCOY, and ABL -- I totally understand your perspective. I get the pull between adoration and cringe for this show. A stalker premise is HEAVY. It didn't help, in that heaviness, to have no past context to Toh's behavior, coupled with Seng's incredible cringy performance.
If another director without as many chaotic tendencies could have directed this show -- I think we would have gotten a more complete and contextual emotionality to the show that would have helped Toh's and Nuea's relationship be portrayed as fully full-circle.
I think this is enough of a quibble that'll keep me from easily rewatching SCOY. But, towards the end of the series (@twig-tea, YOU WERE RIGHT!) -- especially from episode 9 onwards -- I felt that I finally and truly understood where this show was going, and what it was about, and I felt endeared to it.
I think many in the fandom will agree that SkyJao was actually the couple that interpreted, much more clearly, the impact of social pressures and insecurities on a relationship, and for that, I will forever shout
SKYJAO! SKYJAO! SKYJAO!
as one of my absolute favorite side pairings of all time.
SCOY was a hard watch for me because of the interruptions of the holidays, of life, and because I've gotten a little less patient with Cheewin's chaos (...I dropped Playboyy, omg, I have to admit), despite my utter admiration for his work on Make It Right and Bed Friend.
But the difficulties I had in watching it should not take away from honoring this show as a hell of an important one. It makes me admire Saint Suppapong to no end for spending his own damn money towards the pursuit of better BLs. And the acting in SCOY was truly FANTASTIC. Despite my own personal reservations, I cannot recommend SCOY highly enough -- because watching it, and enjoying it, is truly a perfect demarcation to understand how far Thai BLs had gotten to its airing moment in 2022.
[OKAY! As I mentioned above, this project has gotten even richer with the addition of my current reading of Dr. Thomas Baudinette's Boys Love Media in Thailand -- I look forward to offering my thoughts on that book after my watch project is over.
I have added a few shows to the watchlist! The recently-aired Last Twilight makes it on as a show that centered disability vis à vis BL for the first time, and Cherry Magic Thailand makes it on as Thailand's first major adaptation of a Japanese manga and dorama. I've also added 23.5, GMMTV's first GL, to the list, although the premiere date continues to be up in the air for that show.
AS WELL! An actual Japanese BL makes it on the list, ha ha! I'm obsessed with this because I'm learning from Baudinette about the Japanese roots of Thai BL. I am in LOVE with Ossan's Love Returns, and it happily features a cameo by none other than Loong Jim and Wen, who hilariously (AND SMARTLY, go get yer money, guys) franchised Moonlight Chicken to Japan. Earth Pirapat and Mix Sahaphap make the most adorable cameo, and they will be inhabiting Haruta's and Maki's roles when the Thai version of Ossan's Love starts filming later this year.
FINALLY! My own personally long-awaited KinnPorsche (OOOO-WEEEEE!) rewatch is up next, but I'm taking a beat to catch up on Cooking Crush. I can't wait for my late-night liveblogs on KP, though -- they're coming soon!
Here's the status of the list -- as always, Tumblr's web editor is NOT nice to this list, so please mosey over to this link for your very latest updates on the project!

Destiny Seeker - Thai BL 2023
quickie review
Tumblr media
I binged this one so here ya go!
Destiny Seeker is a darn near perfect pulp.
Basically it’s 3 tsundere/sunshine pairings on some iteration of enemies to lovers. At least one half of each does a decent amount of pining and there’s lots of kisses. All pairs are likable.
Tumblr media
There is nothing overly complicated about this show, except the manufactured conflict. Love triangles abound but none are seriously KBL about it. Absolutely everyone is gay (in a 2 Moons franchise kinda way) also absolutely everyone has the same hairdresser (from late 90s Seattle). There is also quite a bit of seriously fun word play and linguistic jokes.
Tumblr media
Classic tropes I haven’t seen in ages popped up, like post-it love notes, the sexy water bottle, sponge bath, etc... It’s higher heat but awkward about it (although there is an a--eating scene and that’s v rare). It left a distinct impression that the actors were pushed beyond their comfort zones. So there’s room to be conflicted if you want. I wasn’t.
Tumblr media
The baby freshman (above) have the funnest story arc and wonderful conversations about consent. The most appealing side couple, PikeMeen, had the best chemistry. But having superior sides dishes is par for the course in Thai BL. I hope we see Pre-Saint Nattapat Suwanich again, he’s a cutie.
Tumblr media
The final episode had a 3 year separation instead of KBL’s 1. I guess Thailand has to do everything longer when it comes to BL? Also some super creepy masks.
All in all?
Tumblr media
It’s fun. Better story than 2 Moons 3 but not as good chemistry from the leads, still I’d put it in that camp. As a couple, the leads when they get together are possibly the sappiest ever fielded by a BL. And that is saying something. And what it’s saying is that this show goes to a level of cringe I didn’t actually think I would ever see on my screen after SCOY.
Final thoughts?
A decent pulp, few issues, good chemistry and heat from all 3 couples, plus communication and queer rep. Sublimely cheesy but a good rainy day offering with tons of rewatch potential.
8/10

I have a couple of thoughts regarding the Kim action scene in the last episode of KinnPorsche. Of course, I find Chay's complete oblivion just as funny as the next person but I was struck but a couple of other things while watching the scene. The first is that Jeff has done surprisingly well in the action scenes for the series for an actor who has no action experience. Like, Apo does amazingly well in his scenes but he's done a lot of action series in the past. For Jeff to do as well as he has is actually pretty impressive. But then he has been such a pleasant surprise throughout. I had enjoyed him in Ingredients but that series wasn't exactly one that you had to really get your teeth into as an actor.
The other thing that I noticed was about Kim's character. He is the sibling who wants the least to do with the mafia life but he also seems to be the one best equipped for it. I just find that interesting.

We've all talked a lot about how amazing characters like Jao, Sky, Daisy, Touch, and Nuea are in SCOY but I really feel like the unsung hero of the show is Som. She is so fiercely protective of her people. And what she said to Daisy in episode 11 tore me apart because it was so beautifully put.
But yeah, don't sleep on Som.

It cracks me up how many people are suddenly thirsting over Seng as if he hadn’t just starred in another BL where his looks were never mentioned. It’s like the Clark Kent and Superman of BL. Apparently glasses and a button down really are enough to hide someone’s true identity.

I’ve been thinking about something for the last week regarding Gram and Nuch. First off, I have to acknowledge how huge it is that a main character in a drama dated a trans woman. This should not be overlooked in our excitement over a possible Gram/Black ship.
But I want to actually acknowledge something else that Gram’s relationship with Nuch does. It place a male lead - an actor with a large fan base who is widely considered to be one of the best looking actors at GMMTV - in a relationship with a plus sized woman. This is a different kind of representation. One I never expected but one that warmed my heart nevertheless.

The use of physical things to illustrate internal feelings in Not Me episode 8 was brilliant.
Dan stripping naked literally and figuratively.
White being bound by his secrets literally and figuratively.
Both Sean and White falling for each other literally and figuratively.

Another thing I love about Chay (aside from uhhhh everything) is that he genuinely isn’t trying to cozy up to Kim. He showed up to play a song for Kim, but it wasn’t because he wanted to ask Kim questions or pester him into more lessons or whatever. He just wanted to play the song and prove he did his homework. Then he left, no muss no fuss. Kim’s probably spent his whole life with everyone around him trying to get close to him for personal gain, both as a mafia prince and as a musician. This kid, though, he just appears, plays a song, smiles a lot, and dips. It’s extremely charming.

You know what? I am so glad that kinn and porsche have fun together. It would be so easy to make their relationship tense and passionate and all-consuming (and it is! In many ways!) but they also just, like, make each other laugh. Their sex is joyful. They go on dumb cheesy dates and exchange forehead and sniff kisses. Kinn finds Porsche’s quirks charming rather than something he puts up with. Porsche finds Kinn and his awkward, hidden earnestness cute. They flirt SO badly. Outside of the sex and the mafia and the danger, they just want to hang out. Love this for them.

My favorite thing about kinn being “calm” and “patient” with porsche is that he’s saying the exact same rude, demanding things but in a very soft voice as if that will make a difference

hands down kinn wears the best suits I've ever seen in a drama. close runner up is fang leng (my girlfriend is an alien) and it's only because he's so "charismatic" that he could wear a trash bag and still have me in a chokehold.

attuma/okeye + shuri/namor + namora/riri demons & angels au!
okeye - as one of Heaven's top generals - is sent on a mission to capture one of hell's most calculating and vicious demon (who also happens to be a general) named attuma.
something is happening in the underworld, with more and more demons popping up in random places and shuri (the top angel/ (Michael ig since this is slightly supernatural based ngl)) is TIRED of it. she sends okeye to earth where attuma is rumoured to be.
and.....
okeye finds attuma with a bunch of kids hanging off of him LAUGHING.
okeye has no clue what's going on, but she instantly is on guard. she doesn't attack first - no that's dumb and a way to get yourself killed.
no, she waits until attuma spots her (who saw her the moment she appeared) and throws down a challenge.
"come with me peacefully or come with me unconscious"
attuma - who is one of the most vicious demons for a reason - is annoyed at this uppity angel who's interrupting his peaceful time. he thinks it's going to be nothing to kill her.
he is wrong and they both come out of that battle bruised with no clear winner. and that's when attuma falls in love.
Yada yada, more things happen, attuma keeps flirting with okeye and being respectful and good with kids (of all ages) yet never loses his intensity, he rocks her world, she rocks his, and shuri comes down from heaven because at this point she's going to have to kill attuma herself because something is scarily different with okeye and she's heard stories about attuma, and namor (Lucifer ig) comes up because shuri! is! here! and the whole demons popping up was him trying to court her because she hasn't been off of his mind since three thousand years ago when she could've killed him in a battle but gave him mercy.
and namora? namora hates angels, would kill anyone who tried to ruin her people, but that girl - the smart girl who hangs around attuma and laughs with - at - him like he couldn't kill her with a twitch of his finger - riri Williams who's all human but has amazing weapons because she was raised in the life but she's always been a little twisted. Oh, namora wants to kill her, wants riri's blood underneath her fingernails and then they fight and namora is being blasted with holy water and now she wants riri underneath her for other reasons.
..... Okay I'm done, who wants to write something like this?👀
(main MAIN couple is okeye/attuma tho)

While I'm still in my Toh Is Not A Stalker Stop Fucking Calling Him That feels: You wanna see a femme queer character who Actually exhibits stalker-like behaviour who Toh looks like a well-adjusted angel next to in comparison because Toh is, in fact, completely harmless? Green from 2gether. Constantly following Tine everywhere including the toilet, inserting himself into Tine's interactions with other people. The show did give him a little bit of a character arc that made us forgive his previous actions but still, the negative stereotyping of a femme queer person as predatory was still there and people sure as fuck did not stop watching that show after ep 1.

Secret Crush on You ep. 10 mini review ✐∗  ˖࣪ ༻
rating 𓄷9.5 - This week's episode really topped what we've seen so far. So much character development is happening, and continuing to happen, and it's so exciting to see.
spotlight couple of the week 𓄷 Jao and Sky (FINALLY THE RELATIONSHIP WE DESERVED)
spotlight actor(s) of the week: Surprise and Seng (I couldn't choose between the two of them, they both did a stellar job)
Review:
The character development coming out of Jao is enough to make me want to cry. Seeing him go from being the shy and insecure kid that was scared he wasn't enough for Sky, to being this confident dude who nows let's Sky know that he's enough for him is *chef's kiss*. Finally, they are together, we got the cutest scene between the tow, and a first kiss that complinetned their overall tone of the series. I'm so thankful that they aren't rushing into anything, so excited to see where the show takes them next.
Good googly-moogly Billy and Seng know what the hell they are doing. God, the hot tub scene was so well shot and so well done. Toh's little moans KILL ME. I don't know how anyone could've survived that scene w/out having to pause and compose themselves. The SCREAM that came out of me when Nuea pushed Toh's head down..lord. Again, onto Toh, I love that we're starting to see his character development slowly increasing. That was my initial hope when I first started the series that his stalkerish and hoard-ish type behavior would lead to some character development. Yay.
WE DIDN'T GET ANY DAISY AND TOUCH THIS EPISODE BUT YOU ALL SAW THE WAY TOUCH SMILED AT DAISY AT THE CONDO, NOTHING MORE TO EXPLAIN.
God, I love this group of actors, they look like the best of friends, and we see that while they're all at Nuea's condo hanging out. I rewatched that scene just cause it just causes the biggest smile. I'm going to miss them so much when this is over.
Next week's episode looks ridiculous, but I expected nothing less from this series. Saint has done such a fantastic job with this show, I hope he will possibly produce more in the future!

Secret Crush On You
i don't usually make review posts because im not good with words and there are many other people who can explain why SCOY is a fantastic show way better than i ever could. still, this show was a source of such happiness and comfort to me in the past weeks that it felt wrong not making a post to say goodbye to it now that it ended. so if you see this post and are wondering if you should give this show a chance, let this be a sign that yeah, yeah you should. you may have to deal with a lot of second hand embarrassment, especially at the beginning, but it's worth it. just know that the show is very self aware and the writers know what they're doing it. im very strict with my ratings and i can't give the show a 10 because i wish they had given more space to intouch/daisy and kongkwan/fon, but it has definitely become one of my favorite shows and i cannot recommend it enough!!!!!

OMG I loved MBM! I'm such a sucker for that sort of co-dependence. Do you have a list of your favorite dramas or just general reviews of some of the drama's you've watched? Or can you just recommend some of your favs?
I mean, same. I adore co-dependence in fiction. One of my favorite unhealthy tropes. I just adore it because it only works in fiction.
Hmmm.
I mean, I have many lists.
Here, you can look at my ratings on MDL! That's the place I have the biggest list and ratings.
You can also ask for more specific lists, if you want!
I don't write big summative reviews the way @absolutebl does. I tend to just write lots and lots and lots and lots of smaller posts based on what I've watched.
I am not good at generalized top lists, though, because those change constantly. My Beautiful Man is my top. It's my 11/10. It's my absolutely perfect, favorite show and everything else lives in a space below it and changes depending on my mood or what I'm thinking about or what I'm prioritizing.
A Tale of a Thousand Stars is always there, alongside Cherry Blossoms After Winter. Innocent is one of my absolute favorites but is deeply fucked up, deeply, and I do not recommend it unless you're comfortable with severe mental illness being handled... mediocrely. Love it anyway. My Ride is gloriously soft and hit my top just for that but it's not, like, the most amazing show ever outside of that. SCOY and Cutie Pie are both vying for top places as long as they stick the landing...
Sorry, anon. I'm not the most helpful for this!
I will say that I don't find codependence to be the most common trope and I wish it was more common but also don't because, well, unhealthy dynamics in shows are often taken the wrong way so I might love them and enjoy them as they are and in comparison... Let's just say that I'd like codependence to be a more common trait in less popular shows.

Honest review of SCOY-
When I pretend Toh does not exist by skipping all his scenes it's actually somewhat enjoyable.
Seriously though, FonKwan are adorable from the get go and SkyJao are interesting too as of now. Like it's pretty poorly made but it's the Why R U director so I doubt anyone was expecting quality content. Still, the characters are mostly funny and quirky in an over the top way that can be quite enjoyable when you just wanna watch something silly. If it weren't for the fact that the main character is literally a creepy ass stalker this show could have been a fun, light-hearted watch.
As of now I'm pretty much only watching for FonKwan and a little bit for SkyJao. But even then I can't say it would have been entirely worth it just for them if I wasn't fast forwarding Toh's scenes, he's that bad.

I was chatting with some fellow drama fiends yesterday about my Old GMMTV Challenge watchlist project, and just wanted to quickly note (for anyone who’s reading and is interested in offering feedback!): my watchlist includes a ton of shows that are NOT from GMMTV.
@absolutebl‘s original post on the topic listed two GMMTV shows in SOTUS and 2gether, but also had Love Sick, which was before the time when GMMTV began to produce BLs. I definitely felt like I needed to watch Love Sick and Make It Right if I was going to watch GMMTV’s first BL in SOTUS -- so I could understand what GMMTV was going to DO with SOTUS by way of telling a queer story via a major Thai network, complete with issues of censorship and the like (thanks to @so-much-yet-to-learn for explaining that part to me a few weeks ago).
We can obviously TELL how GMMTV has progressed in telling queer stories from, say, SOTUS to Moonlight Chicken -- that was the original thesis of ABL Sensei’s original post. But I’m curious about how GMMTV could get there, and who was responsible for it. And that journey has definitely taken place both within AND outside of GMMTV’s own internal trajectory in developing BLs -- Make It Right/MIR2 are great examples of what happened in early BL outside the specter of GMMTV’s demand for specific tropes and specific ships. GMMTV’s media certainly didn’t develop in a vacuum unto itself -- it had to be informed by what else was happening in the world of Thai BL media.
My watchlist project has definitely expanded from the original goals of:
1) learning about GMMTV’s brand of BL, and  2) learning about only significant BLs, to now include  3) analyses of generally historic BLs as well (like Make It Right, Together With Me, TharnType, ITSAY, etc.), and now also includes sub-spotlights on 4) significant ships (like KristSingto, MaxTul, and OffGun) and significant/repeat actors (like Singto, Gun, Off, Ohm, Earth, Mix, etc.) and  5) trajectories of particular directors, like Aof Noppharnach, New Siwaj, and Cheewin Thanamin, all of whom play with ideas of queerness, acceptance, and social change in various ways in their works.
That’s the big bundle of inspiration that’s fed the list, pasted below. I’ll definitely continue to take recommendations on what y’all think had impacts on the developments/trajectories of the genre!
As per ABL Sensei’s thoughts on yesterday’s Make It Right/season 2 review: I’m adding Cheewin Thanamin’s Secret Crush On You/SCOY. I wrote in my MIR2 review that I was DEEPLY moved by Cheewin’s penchant for demonstrating journeys of queer love and joy with trauma-filled starts and markedly happy endings. @absolutebl and others: if I’m correct in this projection, are we seeing Cheewin move from high school journeys (Make It Right/MIR2), to college journeys (SCOY), to journeys with working adults (Bed Friend)? If so -- that is so fucking rad. I’m glad to include SCOY in this.
Here’s the updated list, if you’re interested in perusing! (I made another chronological boo-boo, by the way -- I didn’t realize that Make It Right, season 1, aired BEFORE SOTUS, so I adjusted it below.)
1) Love Sick and Love Sick 2 (2014 and 2015) (review here) 2) Make It Right (2016) (review here) 3) SOTUS (2016-2017) (review here) 4) Make It Right 2 (2017)  (review here) 5) Together With Me (2017) (review here) 6) SOTUS S/Our Skyy x SOTUS (2017-2018) (watching) 7) Love By Chance (2018) 8) Kiss Me Again: PeteKao cuts (2018) 9) He’s Coming To Me (2019) 10) Dark Blue Kiss (2019) 11) TharnType (2019) 12) Senior Secret Love: Puppy Honey (BL cuts) (2016 and 2017) (I’m watching this out of order just to get familiar with OffGun before Theory of Love, will likely not review) 13) Theory of Love (2019) 14) Dew the Movie (2019) (not an official part of the OGMMTVC watchlist, but I want to watch this in chronological order with everything else) 15) Until We Meet Again (2019-2020) 16) 2gether (2020) 17) Still 2gether (2020) 18) I Told Sunset About You (2020) 19) Manner of Death (2020-2021) (not a true BL, but a MaxTul queer/gay romance set within a genre-based show that likely influenced Not Me and KinnPorsche) 20) A Tale of Thousand Stars (2021) (review here) 21) I Promised You the Moon (2021) 22) Not Me (2021-2022) 23) Bad Buddy (2021-2022) (thesis here) 24) Secret Crush On You (2022) [watching for Cheewin’s trajectory of studying queer joy from Make It Right (high school), to SCOY (college), to Bed Friend (working adults)] 25) KinnPorsche (2022) (tag here) 26) The Eclipse (2022) (tag here) 27) My School President (2022-2023) 28) Moonlight Chicken (2023) (tag here) 29) Bed Friend (2023) (tag here) (Cheewin’s latest show, depicting a queer joy journey among working adults)

10 Sunshine/Sunshine AKA cinnamon roll couple BL
A note: usually one half of the sunshine is a bit more quiet and introverted than the other, but they are both still sunny sweeties. Side dishes not included.
Tumblr media
1. My Ride
Thai 2022 Gaga
Thai BL grew up with this pulp - a truly lovely and special little show featuring mature explorations of relationships using one of the softest, sweetest and most innocent friends to lovers vehicles. Kindly, overworked doctor meets broken-hearted motorcycle taxi driver in an “other side of the tracks” slow burn romance. The support cast is excellent, making for great friendship groups and family dynamics. With honest queer rep that adds to, but doesn’t impede the story, and genuine conversation about the nature of class, wealth, and classism, not to mention communication, honesty, and respect for boundaries, you can’t go wrong with this show. In other news, I am a sucker for a single dimple. Full review here.
Tumblr media
2. Vice Versa
Thai 2022 YouTube
Jimmy is insanely charismatic and takes up all the air in (the proverbial cinematic) room, but I warmed up to Sea eventually. As a couple they read as more teasing and brotherly than sexy, but that’s GMMTV’s brand for you. I enjoyed the concept of this show (I’m big into magical realism and skewed reality - see my adoration for Color Rush) but JittiRain’s plot was contrived and weak (normal for them). Look, here’s the thing, flaws and all I pretty much spent this entire show smiling.
Tumblr media
3. My Only 12%
Thai 2022 iQIYI
Y-novel adaptation (author Afterday - Bad Buddy) and strong little BL romance (tailor made for SantaEarth) about holding onto first love and childhood, but it’s buried under waffling family drama and formless side characters so that it took a lot of digging to get to - still I recommend it for the killer softly domestic couple chemistry.
Tumblr media
4. About Youth
Taiwan 2022 Gaga
A truly lovely little coming of age high school BL with a classic YA low drama but high angst and an earnest depth. I didn’t even mind the singing, and that’s saying a lot. A weak seme/uke dynamic but tons of BL tropes (both rare in a high school setting but common for Taiwan) makes this one feel both sweetly and colored by an almost real world authenticity and grit. Full review here.
Tumblr media
5. Ghost Host Ghost House
Thai 2022 YouTube?
This is light horror combined with family drama built around a well executed BL trough-line that felt honestly queer with fantastic chemistry from the lead pair. (I hope that we see more of them.) Pluem delivers the softest most seductive krap ever, Tod Techit (Kewin) is one of the prettiest humans on the planet, and watching these boys flirt over noodles is an unalloyed pleasure. Use of I/you pronouns is super interesting and cute as well. For me, personally, the surrounding cast, premise, and story didn’t resonate but if you like a touch of gothic in your BL this might appeal.
Tumblr media
6. Dear Doctor, I'm Coming for Your Soul
Thai 2022 iQIYI
This is a romance between a doctor trying to save his patients and a reaper who is both his enemy and (eventual) lover (basically the genius premise of a gay Doom at Your Service). High concept looks good on you, Thailand. It’s lovely to see KarnNat back on screen together and they are still great, and Karn is just as painfully beautiful as ever. I enjoyed this one more than it’s ending deserved, and the best I can say is that it’s not strictly HEA but if you’re okay with Life: Love on the Line, you’ll be okay with this BL. It’s set up well, there’s no surprise unpleasantness like HIStory 3: The BL that shall not be named. Full Review here.
Tumblr media
7. Secret Crush On You
Thai 2022 YouTube
Formerly call “The Stalker” for a reason. Highest cringe factor in the biz mixed with flashes of unparalleled genius and insanely good representation of multiple different kinds of queerness makes this entirely unique content we’ve never seen before in BL, the opposite of sanitized gay, like a naked glittery hello kitty doll having kinky sex. I was ALL OVER THE PLACE about this show. SCOY drove me nuts and made me bush but had flashes of unparalleled genius. It had a ton of things I really did not like (e.g. the humor was crass and awkward, and the whole stalker thing was extremely stomach churning, I suffer from bad second hand embarrassment). It also had things that really worked: (e.g. all the queers are INTO each other, it very Taiwanese feeling - in that there was no doubt that the characters want to bone). Honestly, if you can make it through the first half and survive the never ending cringe-factor that IS this show, the second half is entirely unique and kinda special. But I, personally, could never really like this show for all there were bits I loved. Full review of mixed feels.
Tumblr media
8. The 8.2 Second Rule
AKA 8.2 Byo no Hosoku
Japan 2022 microfilm YouTube
Very short JBL about a schoolboy who makes magic candy for a series of handsome classmates, questing for a soulmate. Each ep is a new love interest and while the sweets help others, they keep failing to bring our sunshine the love he wants. Of course, he’s overlooking someone. The lead was very good and the theme, cooking, and eventually romance were charming, but it is a series of BL vignettes not really a cohesive story, no kisses or anything. Japan doesn’t give us sweet BL this short very often, so it’s nice to see them try out the style.
Tumblr media
9. Ai Long Nhai
Thai 2022 iQIYI
Look, this show was just a typical Thai BL university pulp about a confident gay and a clueless manic pixie dream boy. It had potential, chemistry, and earnestness going for it, but no plot and not enough attention side dishes. In the end, it was boring and you know I always rate boring lower than hot messes (because at least the hot mess TRIED). That said, Ai Long Nhai is better than your average Thai pulp, nothing happens but at least the nothing was mostly shirtless and there were GREAT gay dads (IRL husbands Arm & Porsch).
Tumblr media
10. Coffee Melody
Thai 2022 Viki
Stars Pavel (my love) as a cafe owner (Forth in 2 Moons 2) and Benz as a composer (Call it What You Want). This should have been my kind of BL - on the fluffy end of the spectrum plus honestly queer. Unfortunately, the slow pacing, manufactured angst, odd secondary story arcs, and a selfishly immature unlikeable wet dishcloth main character, Yi, meant its flaws outweighed its charm. Jean (flame on snark fairy) is MINE, I love him so much but in the end neither he nor Pavel in an apron could save this show for me. It’s not bad. It’s not good either. Ultimately so forgettable I’ve probably already forgotten it.
BONUS Strongberry
Tumblr media
Please Tell Me So
AKA That's my Mr.Right!
Korea 2021 microfilm YouTube
Cute barista (played by Han Hyun Jun star of Love Class) has a crush on his customer, musters up the courage to ask him out.
Every list should come with a Strongberry bonus, like a cherry on top...
This lists dated Dec 2022, not responsible for keeping it updated. But if you have more to add or ones I have forgotten please comment or repost with additions! Keep the dream alive.

Congrats @barryschwabsky & @tbradway LANDSCAPE PAINTING NOW reviewed @hyperallergic “Art critic Barry Schwabsky’s new book, “Landscape Painting Now: From Pop Abstraction to New Romanticism” (DAP), delivers a global and multi-generational perspective on what may be the most malleable of painting genres. Along with editor Todd Bradway and historians Robert R. Shane, Louise Sorensen, and Susan A. Van Scoy, Schwabsky sets out to update readers on what artists have been doing with the pliable clay of landscape painting since 1950. With a specific focus on paintings completed since 2000, a view unfolds of a genre that earned only sporadic attention from critics while its practitioners were busy expanding, redefining, and generally complicating the form… Readers will be left with the question: can landscape painting retain its distinction as a genre, or is it doomed to drift toward Jackson Pollock’s “I am nature” paean to solipsism? For those invested in such inquiry, I suggest post-it markers placed at the pages where they feel the author’s inclusiveness led him adrift. For that participatory exercise alone, above and beyond the volume’s intelligence and visual sumptuousness, I believe ‘Landscape Painting Now’ could play a significant role in our conversations about contemporary painting and its meaning.” — Peter Malone #landscapepainting #landscapepaintingnow @landscape_painting_now #pleinairpainting #pleinair #figurativepainting #nature #contemporarylandscapepainting #postpoplandscapes https://www.instagram.com/p/BvRkN-bHePu/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=vb377eb9c2vi

Top research centres in Delhi for a law student to intern in
In this article, Anushka Ganguli of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab discusses top research centres in Delhi for a law student to intern in.
Research knows no bounds. It is everything around you. It is about unravelling every story that exists around you. In simple terms, it is a quest to find out what the common eyes cannot, and only the thirst for more and more can actually discover.
Knowledge is power, and research is the tool to bestow this power upon you. It is the in-depth study and investigation of facts to draw concrete conclusions, and solutions.
Research, for a law student, is an indispensable weapon. The nature of the profession is such, that one cannot escape the clutches of laws, acts, facts, precedents, law reviews and the like. This is why legal research stands out as an essential tool for every law student, that becomes a part of him and any individual associated with this profession.
Undoubtedly, legal research is an essential lawyering skill, but to develop this skill is no petty task. It takes time, patience and pursuance and may involve hours and hours of study and dedication.
