SS: High School AU
A few days before the start of Sakura's senior year in high school, excitement and anticipation filled the air. As the elected senior class president, Sakura played a vital role in organizing various student events. Driven by her ambition to make a positive impact and pursue her lifelong dream of becoming a doctor, she aimed to excel academically and secure admission to a reputable university.
One of the upcoming events was the student orientation, which Sakura and the student leadership group were in charge of organizing. Their school, Konohagakure High School, was renowned for its academic excellence and nurturing strong leadership qualities. Assembled from the brightest minds and hearts in the school, this young leadership group embarked on their preparations.
"Alright, everyone," Mr. Hatake announced, "You will be the first to have your photos taken for the yearbook and collect your school supplies. Make sure to finish before the first wave of students arrives. And remember, if you have any questions, reach out to me or Sakura. She'll be in the gymnasium at the yearbook section. As for me, I'll be in the leadership classroom, immersed in my book... so go to Sakura if you need anything!" The students chuckled at their teacher's remark, knowing he was only half-joking.
The students dispersed, and Sakura, being stationed at the yearbook section, was one of the last to have her photo taken. She sat down in the chair, and a student from the photography program asked if she was ready. "Yup!" she replied.
"Hey, Sakura!" Naruto called out. He was one of the captains of the sports teams on campus and was like a little brother to Sakura, though he had a knack for occasionally bothering her, as any little brother would.
As Sakura posed for the photo, Naruto's interruption caused her to become distracted. Annoyed, she looked at him. "Oops, sorry. I'll ask Mr. Hatake," Naruto said, walking off slowly, feeling guilty.
"Can I take another one, please, Sasuke?" Sakura asked the photographer.
Sasuke sighed, sounding exhausted even though the day had just begun. "It's supposed to be only one photo per person..."
"But I got distracted... please?" Sakura pleaded.
"Hn... fine," Sasuke reluctantly agreed. He walked behind the camera and took another photo of her.
"Can I see it?" Sakura asked excitedly.
"We usually don't show it to people..." Sasuke hesitated.
"Please? Come on, no one else is coming in for another couple of minutes," Sakura insisted.
Sasuke gestured for her to join him and view the photo, giving a slight nod of his head. Smiling, she rose from her seat and walked over to his side. As she leaned in to peer at the camera, she found herself in close proximity to him.
"Oh, I hate to do this..." she said timidly, "Can I fix my hair and take another photo?"
Sasuke cast his gaze downward, noting the significant height difference between them, as Sakura stood a head shorter than him. With a subtle nod, he responded, "Hn... go ahead and take a seat again." Sakura reached out and gently grasped his arm.
Her smile brightened as she expressed her gratitude, "Thank you, Sasuke!"
A few meters away, the senior class secretary, Lee, approached Shikamaru, who was busy texting his girlfriend from a rival high school. "Hey, Shikamaru... who is that guy?" Lee asked, pointing toward the photographer.
Shikamaru, still focused on his phone, replied, "Oh, who?"
"Look up, and you'll see... the photographer!" Lee insisted.
Shikamaru glanced at the back of the photographer's head and instantly recognized him. "Oh, that's Sasuke Uchiha. He's the head of the visual arts program at school, specializing in photography," Shikamaru explained. He also noticed Sakura clinging to Sasuke's arm and teased, "Getting jealous, are you?"
Blushing, Lee tried to hide his embarrassment. "No, it's not like that! I was just wondering who he was because I've never seen him before."
"I think they live in the same neighborhood, along with Naruto," Shikamaru added.
"They've known each other their entire lives?" Lee wondered.
"I suppose... ah, damn, she's looking at us. She probably wants us to get back to work," Shikamaru said, leaving the gym to go to his assigned station. Lee lingered for a moment longer, trying to catch another glimpse of Sasuke and Sakura. Sasuke turned around, making direct eye contact with Lee, who immediately felt intimidated and hurried after Shikamaru.
Sasuke leaned over slightly to adjust the camera's focus, glancing at Sakura. "You certainly rule with an iron fist," he remarked, standing back and positioning himself beside the camera, his hand resting on the capture button.
"I'm just passionate about my job, that's all," Sakura playfully rolled her eyes.
Sasuke looked at the camera and then back at her. "Hey, Sakura," he said, amused, "look at the camera and not me for your photo."
Sakura's face reddened as she redirected her focus to the camera, flashing a picture-perfect smile for the yearbook. The flash went off, and Sasuke raised an eyebrow, smirking at her. "Wanna see it?" he asked.
Sakura smiled and scoffed, "You know me so well." She got up and looked at the photo, exclaiming, "That's the one!" with a wide smile.
While Sakura continued to admire the photo, Naruto reappeared, attempting to sneak up behind her. "Hey, Sakura! Did you get your perfect shot?" he teased, grinning mischievously.
Sakura turned around, catching Naruto in the act. "Oh, not you again, Naruto," she said, rolling her eyes. "But yes, I did. Thanks to Sasuke here. He agreed to take it one more time."
Naruto's eyes widened in surprise. "Wow, Sasuke, you actually bent the rules for Sakura? You must like her more than you let on!" He laughed and playfully nudged Sasuke.
Sasuke's expression remained unchanged, but a faint blush appeared on Sakura's cheeks. "Naruto, stop teasing us. Sasuke was just being helpful, that's all."
As the other students began to enter the gymnasium, Sakura straightened up, adjusting her posture. "Well, we better get back to work, Naruto. We have a lot to prepare for the student orientation. And Sasuke, thanks again for the photo."
Sasuke nodded, his dark eyes meeting Sakura's with a subtle warmth. "No problem, Sakura. If you need any more help, you know where to find me."
Sakura and Sasuke remained near the yearbook photo area, occasionally exchanging lingering glances that Naruto had keenly noticed. As the day came to an end, Sakura felt exhausted. She headed towards the student parking lot and approached an expensive sleek black car.
"Well, you came out late," Sasuke remarked.
"Mr. Hatake and I were discussing our plans for the seniors this year... Plus, I've become the go-to person who's here first and leaves last," Sakura replied, sinking into her seat.
"So, does that mean I'll have to accompany you when you arrive and leave?" Sasuke teased.
Playfully smacking his arm, Sakura asked, "Is that an official offer, Sasuke?"
"It could be... What kind of boyfriend would I be otherwise?" Sasuke responded.
"True..." Sakura's tone turned lighthearted. "So, no one suspected?"
Sasuke inquired, "Surprised that no one did."
"I mean, they'll figure it out eventually, but that damn Naruto must've spilled the beans to some people, I assume," Sakura laughed.
Sasuke smirked, leaning back in his seat. "Well, he's not exactly discreet, is he? But let them speculate all they want. It's our business, after all."
Sakura glanced at him, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "You know, it's kind of exciting, having a secret like this. It's like we're playing a game, hiding our feelings from everyone."
Chuckling, Sasuke acknowledged, "I suppose you're right. It does add a certain thrill. But it won't be a secret forever. Eventually, we'll have to let everyone know."
Agreeing, Sakura nodded, her smile widening. "I can't wait for that day. I want to see their surprised faces when they find out that the stoic Sasuke Uchiha is actually my boyfriend."
Sasuke's expression softened as he reached out to tuck a strand of hair behind Sakura's ear. "And I can't wait to see your smile when they find out. It's a sight I never get tired of."
For a moment, they sat in comfortable silence, reveling in the joy of their secret relationship. As the sun began to set, Sakura finally spoke up. "I should get going. My parents will start worrying if I'm too late."
Sasuke started the engine, backing the car out of the parking lot. As he turned his head to look behind him, he extended his arm around Sakura's seat. Pausing for a moment, he leaned in to kiss her before adjusting the car into drive. Together, they drove out of the parking lot and headed home.
