Be warned, I poke fun at them and myself - this is all for shits and giggles :D
If anyone wants to use this as an excuse to make their own, please do! The more the merrier!
So let's start with the biggest one...

Ten fic tag game
The idea: one line any fic! rules: pick ten of your fics, scroll to somewhere midpoint, pick a line chunk and share it, and then tag ten people.
tagged by @dual-domination :D I do have quite a few to choose from, so I decided to choose the 10 with the lowest hit counts - great way to bring attention to some of my less read fics :D
1 - It's a Simple Love Between You and Me - JC/NHS, The Untamed/MDZS modern day cultivators AU:
“That's it!” Nie Mingjue burst out. “I've had enough of this bullshit.”
“Da-ge,” Lan Xichen tried to calm with a hand on Nie Mingjue's arm.
“No, I know you said to let him figure it out himself, but as you can see, my brother is a complete idiot. I love him, but he is.”
“Da-ge,” Meng Yao said warningly.
“No, don't think I don't know you're just trying to win the betting pool.” Meng Yao pouted but didn't even deny it.
“What are you even talking about?” Nie Huaisang asked, confused beyond belief. Because there should not be a betting pool that he didn't know about (or organize).
“Didi.” Nie Mingjue faced Nie Huaisang squarely. “You are the only person in the fucking universe who hasn't figured out yet that you've been in love with Jiang Cheng since you both were boys developing your golden cores. No, I'm wrong – you and Jiang Cheng are the only people who don't know because he doesn't know he's in love with you either, and the two of you have been driving us up the wall for over a decade now!”
2 - Secrets Through the Eyes of a Child - Gen, Jin Ling-centric, The Untamed/MDZS
His Jiujiu angrily sat on the bed next to Jin Ling and let out a huff of frustration – he was long used to his Jiujiu being angry at anything and everything, and he didn't think he was angry at him. “Enough with the I don't knows. You're not Nie-zongzhu, so tell me what's been bothering you or else I'll break your legs.”
At the mention of Nie-zongzhu, however, all he could think about was Chifeng-zun's head in the secret mirror room, sad and lonely and far from his brother. He began to cry and he tried to wipe his tears away with the sleeve of his sleep robe, but his Jiujiu got there first, using his own sleeve to wipe the tears and snot from Jin Ling's face.
“Did Nie-zongzhu do or say something to you?” His Jiujiu looked confused – probably because Nie-zongzhu couldn't hurt a fly. “Tell me what he did? I'll go beat him up so he'll never do it again.”
Jin Ling shook his head. “Nie-zongzhu didn't do anything, Jiujiu. It's...” He cried even harder as he remembered everything he'd seen. “It's his brother. Chifeng-zun. He's sad and lonely and he doesn't deserve to be, not if there's a chance he can see his brother again.”
3 - Shadows Over Lanling - Gen, Jin Family-centric, The Untamed/MDZS
Jin Guangshan had often thought his son needed a little more backbone, but this wasn't the time. “I can't believe you would even ask this of me. Didn't Wei Wuxian bring you enough trouble at Cloud Recesses, and now you want to risk our disciples to save him?”
“Whatever my problems with Wei Wuxian, he and Lan Wangji saved all of our lives by holding off the xuanwu so we could escape. Is that not a life debt that needs to be repaid?”
“I'll lead the charge,” Jin Zixun claimed haughtily. “And I dare any Wen to get in our way. I'll show them what happens to those who dare mistreat the Jin.”
“That's exactly the reason you're not going,” Jin Guangshan snapped. “The last thing we need is you to start something we can't pull back from.”
4 - They Get Around - Various ships (LQY and NHS are bffs setting each other up on dates), The Untamed/MDZS
“That... doesn't look like the face of a man who had a successful date.”
“Well, she wasn't insane at least, but turns out she's a lesbian who only took the date to get her parents off of her back.”
“Seriously? But I thought she was perfect – a doctor, kind of snarky, drop dead gorgeous...”
“...and the first date you set me up on was with her brother. But I'm glad you liked her, because she's your date next week.”
“...but-but-but- she's out of my league!”
“Too late, can't cancel now, I've already promised her to act as her beard that night so her family will stay off her case.”
“...”
“You can thank me later.”
5 - Nie Mother's Day Drabble - Gen, the Nie bros and their moms, The Untamed/MDZS
“I made this for you, Mama,” he said, slipping a flower crown over her braided hair.
“It's beautiful, A-Sang.” She wrapped her arms around her son and lifted him up, cuddling him close as he giggled in glee.
He Yaling came over to her side, Mingjue still slung over her shoulder (though exhausted after his tickling). She ran an affectionate hand down Huaisang's back before pressing her temple to Nie Ziniao's. For her part, Nie Ziniao reached behind the other woman to playfully tug at one of Mingjue's braids.
It was a good day – uneventful, but the sort one remembered on cold, heartless nights to keep themselves warm and feeling loved.
6 - A Need I Can't Explain - NSFW- NHS/JZXun, The Untamed/MDZS
“A toast to your betrothal,” Nie Huaisang said sarcastically. “To years and years of a cold bed, of perfunctory sex with someone you can't stand, and feigning desire for a woman who will never, ever make you feel a fraction of the need you feel with me. A lifetime of pretending. I hope you enjoy it.”
Jin Zixun tightened his hands again. He should kill Nie Huaisang, toss his body into a river and never have to hear his poisonous words again. He was the only person who knew his secret, the only one he'd ever allowed himself to be so vulnerable with. If he did away with Nie Huaisang, there would be nobody else who knew, nobody else to remind him of what he'd had and could never have again, what he should never have had to begin with.
His vision blurred; the folding fan dropped to the floor and fingers wrapped around his cock through the luxurious fabric of his robes.
He should let go, shove the man away... but he smelled so fucking good.
7 - Maybe if the stars align, maybe if our worlds collide - NSFW, NHS/Jinzhu, The Untamed/MDZS
Her hands slid around his neck and he could feel her razor sharp nails sliding along his skin. He shivered, both in arousal as well as fear, knowing that she was no wilting flower and could easily take his life if she so chose.
That was the very thing that made him desire her so.
He leaned into her until she had no choice but to move up and sit on the table, her legs parting to allow him to step between them.. He broke the kiss and leaned in to smell along her neck, where her jasmine perfume was strongest combined with the delicious scent of her skin. “Let me worship you as you deserve,” he whispered next to her ear before sliding the tip of his tongue along the outer shell.
8 - The Day Our World Changed - Gen, Nie Bros fic, The Untamed/MDZS
There was a crash in the room and the terrified wail of a nine-year-old child. Nie Ziniao brought Nie Mingjue over to the doorway. “Stay right here, A-Jue. We'll get A-Sang to you, and the moment you have him, you get him out of here.”
He wanted to argue but he knew he would be of no help, not in the condition he was in. He watched helplessly as his mother's saber swung to block every strike her husband made. Nie Ziniao managed to circle the room while he was distracted, retrieving her sobbing child and carrying him over to the doorway. Just as she was handing him over to Nie Mingjue, she screamed, almost dropping Huaisang as she fell to her knees.
She shoved the two boys through the doorway with trembling hands as blood spread out from her side where a hunk of broken wood had impaled her, and used all of her strength to grab the door and close it lowering the metal bar with a clang.
9 - Comfort Amidst Chaos - NHS/JZXun, The Untamed/MDZS
“Try not to skewer your trainer, Nie-er-gongzi!” he called over, though there was no heat in the taunt.
“I told you before, Jin-gongzi, the only one I plan on skewering is you.”
Jin Zixun's lips twisted in a smirk and he continued leading the disciples away.
10 - The cat had found herself a new pet - Gen, fluff, NHS and JC and a cat, The Untamed/MDZS
“Huaisang, what are you doing here?” Because they both knew that he preferred to sleep in most mornings.
He was about to try and make up some sort of excuse when his eyes focused on the throne behind Nie Mingjue... and the fluffy grey cat that had just alighted there, its nose sniffing at the sect leader's braids. The Lan to his left began giggling softly, and from his angle, he could spot Lan Xichen doing his best to keep a straight face and only barely succeeding.
The grey cat seemed to be done sniffing and finally struck forward, taking one of Nie Mingjue's braids in its mouth and pulling at it as if it were prey. His brother yelped and jumped out of the throne, looking back to stare at the creature that looked at him back with eyes filled with outrage before taking off running again.
And now I will tag: @fortune-maiden @zaidnovi @roseclaw @pbaintthetb @cerusee @ibijau and anyone else who would enjoy the excuse to play along :D

Scary OTP: Nie Huaisang/Jin Zixun 👀💕
Oooh, thank you! People, get you a Mutual who is happy to indulge your weird little rarepairs ;)
And man, this turned into a mini essay :D
Which one is more fond of scary movies: Nie Huaisang - 1) because they give him an excuse to act more scared than he is and he can whine and cajole his way into being 'comforted', and 2) because to be quite honest, Jin Zixun is 'fond' of very little in the universe.
Which one gets the most excited about Halloween: Nie Huaisang - he LOVES the chance to dress up and act like someone else, preferably with a mask firmly in place (is it any wonder the first fic I wrote of this pair had them both in masks and fucking anonymously?). Jin Zixun would just see it as an event for his uncle to show off the family wealth to the world with a grand party where Zixun can go out of his way to piss someone off (when they're 'together', NHS allows him one or two asshole moves before dragging him off into the Koi Tower gardens, telling his brother he's just doing his part to keep the peace between the sects)
Which one would be more likely to survive the apocalypse: Nie Huaisang: 1) Do you REALLY think Nie Mingjue wouldn't do everything he can to make sure his brother survives the worst case scenarios? Plus he knows how to make the puppy dog eyes that make people give in to him. 2) Jin Zixun will think he's good because his uncle's money has of course paid for the BEST fallout shelter possible, and only the BEST people will be allowed inside, yet at the time of its necessity, Zixun will no doubt get into a fight with someone, likely a 'lower class' person trying to get into the shelter, and Jin Guangshan will decide his nephew is expendable and shut the shelter up before Zixun can get in.
Which one would literally kill for the other: BOTH. We all know from canon just how far NHS would go for someone he loves (the plot would not happen otherwise!). Jin Zixun is the same, in his own way. He's a guard dog for his uncle, doing whatever is asked of him, and is loyal to his cousin. Once someone is considered 'his', even if it's not love but possession of some kind, Zixun won't let any insult go unanswered.
Which one likes to scare or startle the other: Jin Zixun, for sure. Though NHS is rarely actually scared or startled - but he enjoys pretending, it lets Zixun feel he's got one over on him, and NHS has his own ways of getting under his skin.
Which one is more likely to need comforting when they get spooked: The operative word here is NEED - so my answer is Jin Zixun. NHS doesn't need to be comforted, but he LOVES it and will exaggerate his fear in order to get it. Zixun has actually received very little comfort (emotional/affectionate) in his life - you give your family face and suck up whatever you're feeling or else you're doing the Jin name dishonour - and deep inside him is a scared little boy who wishes he could have gone to someone to crawl into their arms when the world was rough. So yeah, Zixun NEEDS comforting more, but he'd never ask for it, would fight even if its given to him voluntarily and without being asked for, and he fights BECAUSE he's terrified he needs it that much.
Which one always puts on a brave face: Jin Zixun - no question! His family is all about saving face, and showing fear would NOT be acceptable in the Jin. NHS, on the other hand, happily whines and cries over every little inconvenience.
Which one would be more dangerous if they suddenly became violent: Nie Huaisang. JZXun we expect to get violent at the drop of a hat - any hat - but NHS is so severely underestimated that he'd hit you before you ever saw him coming (or convinced someone else to hit you, he doesn't like to get his own hands dirty).
Which one would be more likely to commit a crime: BOTH - depending on the crime. If you're looking at smuggling, conspiracy to (get someone else to) commit murder, and cheating in school, Nie Huaisang is your man. If you're looking at war crimes, then it's Jin Zixun.
Which one believes in ghosts: In canon, both - it's part of the universe. In an AU: Jin Zixun. NHS would pretend he does, but wouldn't actually believe unless there's evidence. Zixun, however, is extremely superstitious - he's a man who believes that all of his problems are caused by external things, and is more likely to believe that his bad luck is because of a ghost or a curse than because of his own bad choices.
Which one likes to watch spooky show on television: Nie Huaisang. He enjoys having fun, even if it's being scared. Zixun would act like the shows are just stupid and you'd have to be ridiculous to be afraid of anything on them, but secretly, because of his superstitious nature and belief in the supernatural, he's more likely to take them serious and be genuinely freaked out, hence he avoids them.
Which one would propose the idea of holding a seance: In canon, Jin Zixun, if only because it would be a normal part of his work as a cultivator, and Nie Huaisang wants to stay as far away from work as possible. In an AU, Nie Huaisang, because Zixun would be too freaked out by the supernatural to be on board.
Which one has nightmares more often: Jin Zixun. In canon, even though the Jin entered the Sunshot Campaign later than most of the other sects, they still participated - Zixun would have fought with his cousin, and war is traumatic. Furthermore, he would be haunted by the things he's done to the Wen in the post-war camps - he'd never admit it to a soul, especially not his uncle, but he's a human being, and one doesn't take part in that kind of torture and mistreatment and murder without it affecting them. And both in canon and in an AU, he would have regular nightmares about losing his position in the family - he knows his power and status is directly linked to what Jin Guangshan thinks of him and how useful he is to his uncle, and he has nightmares that the day will come that he's no longer useful, and fears what will happen to him then.
Which one would want to explore a real haunted house: In canon, Jin Zixun - like with the seance, it would be part of his job. In an AU, NEITHER - Zixun believes in the supernatural and would stay the fuck away, and Huaisang would NOT want to go someplace dingy and dirty and potentially get slimed, not in this outfit, do you have ANY idea how much it cost to get a matching fan?

The latest from my 12 months with Nie Huaisang and Jin Zixun - the word of the month is helicopter.
Warning: Major Character Death (Jin Zixun - in these fics he's a major character, okay!)
Summary: A flight over Shanghai goes terribly, terribly wrong.
~ ~ ~
Nie Huaisang looked out the window of the luxury helicopter as it headed over the Qingcaosha Reservoir, the lights of Shanghai bright beneath the midnight moon. It was a good night for a flight.
He just didn’t know if it was a good day to die.
“So,” he began, impressed at how quiet this model was on the inside, “when were you planning on doing it?”
“Doing what?” Jin Zixun asked, staring out the window on the other side.
“Kill me.” He saw Jin Zixun stiffen, but the man didn’t deny it. “I’m presuming you’re meant to take me out over the water and open the door. That is what you were planning, right?”
Jin Zixun’s jaw shifted as he ground his teeth together. “That was the plan, yes.”
Nie Huaisang sighed. “And here I thought we were having a little fun. I wasn’t that bad in bed, was I?” he joked.
Jin Zixun glared at him, and Nie Huaisang could see a war waging within him.
“Admit it,” he said softly. “We had a few good times.”
“It doesn’t matter,” Jin Zixun finally replied. “Nothing matters but what my uncle wants.”
“And he wants me dead. Because Da-ge pissed him off.”
“We lost ten billion dollars because of his interference.”
“I thought ten billion would barely be within Jin Guangshan’s notice.”
Jin Zixun blew out a puff of air. “It’s the principal of the matter.”
“And as always, you’re going to just do whatever your uncle wants.” A part of Nie Huaisang thought he should feel insulted by that, but he knew Jin Zixun – he was Jin Guangshan’s man to the bitter end.
“He’s my uncle.”
Nie Huaisang sighed and turned to lean across the soft leather seats, reaching out to trail his fingers up Jin Zixun’s arm. “Isn’t there anything I can do to change your mind?”
“You think another fuck can save you?” Jin Zixun ground out.
He shrugged. “It was worth a try. How about one last kiss goodbye?” He moved in, his lips millimetres away from Jin Zixun’s, so close they could feel each others’ breaths.
“You’re too shameless for a man about to die.” Jin Zixun trembled, and Nie Huaisang knew him enough to know it wasn’t from desire. “How can you be so calm about this?!”
“Maybe I’m still hoping I can talk you out of it,” he whispered. “You don’t have to do it, you know. You can go back and say I didn’t show up. Or you can come back with me, get out of the Jin and out from under your Uncle’s thumb. You can be your own man for once.”
“You’re crazy,” Jin Zixun ground out.
Nie Huaisang finally bridged the distance between them, their lips crashing together like two waves in a wild storm. It didn’t last long, and Jin Zixun looked down at him with something Nie Huaisang had never seen on his face before – genuine regret.
“I’m my uncle’s man until the day I die,” Jin Zixun whispered. “It’s nothing personal.”
“I know,” he sighed, and he did know.
“Besides,” Jin Zixun pushed Nie Huaisang away from him. “Even if I did want to change my mind, this is our helicopter, and the pilot obeys my uncle.”
“Ah...” Nie Huaisang backed into his seat and adjusted his tang suit. “About that. Think again.”
“What?”
He tapped the button on the armrest. “How’re you doing up there?”
“She’s flying beautifully, Nie-gongzi,” a voice crackled over the speakers. “Like a dream.”
“How long until we get to Chongming Island?”
“Just a few minutes.”
Jin Zixun let out a growl. “That’s not where we’re going!” he shouted. “Turn back and circle around the reservoir.”
“Sorry Jin-gongzi,” the pilot said, sounding far from sorry, “but I only take orders from the Nie.”
Nie Huaisang grinned when Jin Zixun glared at him. “You know, you Jin really need to get your heads out of your asses and get to know your employees. It’s a real problem when you think everyone else is beneath you; you have a hard time recognizing one underling from another.”
“Who the fuck is flying this thing?”
“One of ours.” Nie Huaisang tugged at his sleeve. “And this is a nice helicopter. I think it’ll make a nice addition to our fleet.”
“You little-”
“You have two choices,” he explained. “You can come back with us, or we let you off somewhere, but either way, I’m not dying tonight.
Jin Zixun slammed his hand into the interior wall and his face went red with fury. “You’ve just signed my death warrant.” His breathing began to grow faster. “If I return without this helicopter and with you still alive... you know what happens to those who displease my uncle.”
Nie Huaisang knew – their bodies were found with coins where there eyes had been and an old curse carved into their flesh.
“Then come back with me. You can work for my brother, even if you don’t give us any intel about your uncle’s activities, as long as you pledge loyalty to the Nie, we’ll keep you safe.”
For a moment – a very brief moment – it looked like Jin Zixun might accept his offer.
Jin Zixun quickly reached into his jacket and withdrew a gun. Before he could point it at him, Nie Huaisang reached out to grab his wrist and hold it away. The gun went off, and the helicopter swerved.
“What’s going on back there?” the pilot called over the speakers.
“Just keep flying this thing straight!” Nie Huaisang shouted as Jin Zixun tried to break his hold.
Nie Huaisang moved in to bite Jin Zixun’s wrist and the gun dropped to the floor. He kicked his lover in the shin and dove down to grab the gun before he could, but Jin Zixun jumped on top of him and held him back. There was a punch to Nie Huaisang’s back that had him howling and he tried to make another grab for the gun. Jin Zixun pulled him back and punched him in the jaw. Nie Huaisang kicked him again when Jin Zixun tried to make his own grab for the gun.
Jin Zixun sneered and made to get the gun again, but changed direction at the last moment. He pulled the lever to open the helicopter door, and the once quiet interior was filled with the deafening sound of the helicopter’s rotor. Then he made a grab for Nie Huaisang.
He fought back, but Jin Zixun’s superior athleticism had him at an disadvantage – Nie Mingjue would no doubt chastise him for all the times he’d skipped out of self-defence training. If he survived this, he’d let his brother berate him all he wanted. Nie Huaisang was quickly brought down to the floor and pushed toward the open door, and for a moment, his life flashed before his eyes.
Thankfully, he had an ace up his sleeve.
He flicked his wrist and flipped out a switchblade, then shoved it into Jin Zixun’s side. The man screamed and his hold on Nie Huaisang loosened, but when he tried to move backwards, Jin Zixun grabbed him again. At least the other man’s injury made them a little more evenly matched, and they shoved and punched each other at the helicopter’s open door with the lights of Shanghai bright down below.
Then Jin Zixun’s knee slipped and his legs went out from under him, and he began falling out the doorway. Nie Huaisang dove over to grab his arm, keeping him from falling with barely enough strength to keep them both from toppling over. They stared into each others’ eyes as they were frozen in a precarious tableau.
“You don’t have to die!” Nie Huaisang screamed over the roaring of the helicopter. “Come back with me!”
Please, don’t make me kill you.
Jin Zixun’s face softened for the shortest moment, reminding Nie Huaisang of passionate nights, shared insults in the middle of banquets, and quiet moments of honesty where neither of their families were there to witness them. Then Jin Zixun let go.
Nie Huaisang was a coward – he turned his head away, unable to watch as Jin Zixun fell to his death. He took a shaky breath and grabbed the door, sliding it closed with one great shove. Instead of blissful silence, the air was filled with the yelling of his pilot demanding an update. He went to sit in the leather seat and pressed the button on the armrest.
“It’s fine, I’m here.” He paused, thankful for the silence once the pilot stopped yelling. “But Jin Zixun made an unexpected departure.”
The speaker went still for several moments. “I’ll radio ahead to your brother and let him know.”
Nie Huaisang shut off the connection to the cockpit and sat back into his seat, looking out again over the lights of Shanghai. He kept reminding himself that it had been Jin Zixun or him, that this was the only way this could have ended.
It didn’t stop his chest from filling with a profound sense of sorrow.
“Goodnight, A-Xun,” he whispered. “May we meet again in our next life.”

For the Bingo— “Comfort Amidst Chaos”
:D For my followers who don't know, this is one of my NHS/JZXun fics
Tumblr media
The great line I HAD to use (and the accompanying scene) was “Well, I always did say I was going to skewer you with my saber.”
Thank you so much for the ask! :D

sangxun enemies to lovers??????👀
As some may be dismayed to know >.< I have a little thing with shipping NHS with Jin Zixun of all people, and this is a fic I've been working off and on for a while. There's a few scenes of them at various ages locking horns, but then the big part of the fic will take place during the Sunshot Campaign.
When NHS is smuggled to Gusu for his protection, they come across a Wen scouting party and get attacked. The whole thing is witnessed by a Jin party headed by Jin Zixun - at this point, JGS hasn't committed to the Sunshot campaign - and the moment the disciples realize NHS is in the fray, they realize that if he's captured, it could hugely affect the Sunshot campaign - so JZX takes his disciples in because they've been secretly pissed their sect leader hasn't taken a stand, and they don't want the whole thing to be decided then and there.
Basically, at the end of it all, there are only 2 people still alive - NHS and JZXun, the latter of which is severely injured and barely able to walk/stand. NHS gets them to safety, helps with some first aid, etc etc - and then they're on the run from the Wen (because JGS was happy to throw his nephew under the bus when confronted by WRH about Jin bodies at the scene of battle). Of course feelings are to be had, etc etc...
And then I was going to do 2 endings for the story and post them both as separate chapters. Ending 1: JZXun, through his love for NHS, doesn't provoke WWX the way he does in canon, vastly changing the way things happened, and through high and low, they do actually get a happily ever after. Ending 2: JZXun doesn't change, his antagonism of WWX tears SangXun apart, and canon happens as canon does.
My planned title was "Happiness and Disaster"
Now for the excerpt:
<center>~*~*~*~</center>
Lan Qiren felt like he was on the verge of a qi deviation.
This year's batch of students in Cloud Recesses had looked to be quite promising, and with only one great sect sending an heir (he expected the Jiang and Jin to send theirs the next year), he had hoped some of the usual inter-sect animosity would be at a minimum, allowing the students a peaceful place to learn and grow. He had thought he could dedicate himself to his lessons and observing the students for their potential as great cultivators of the future.
He had thought wrong.
He held back a sigh as his nephew, Lan Xichen, approached with a teapot and cups which he prepared and distributed to Lan Qiren and the two boys kneeling opposite him at the table. Two boys that had already been caught cursing each other out no less than two dozen times since classes had begun. Two boys that had been warned and punished several times, and yet here they were, in his office again after having been caught shoving each other and trading insults, proving their punishments had been for naught.
He lifted his tea to his lips and took a sip, hoping the bite from the piping hot tea would give him some strength to handle these two troublesome teenagers.
The boys for their part, couldn't have been more different than night and day. Nie Huaisang had looked sheepish at first, though when Lan Xichen arrived with the tea, Nie Huaisang had given him an innocent smile as if to gain sympathy by reminding Lan Xichen of his friendship with Nie Mingjue; Lan Xichen had a kind heart, if one that was terribly naive, and had returned the smile whole-heartedly. Next to Nie Huaisang knelt Jin Zixun, arms crossed over his chest and nose held high in the air as if he couldn't believe anyone would hold him accountable for any of his actions and that if Lan Qiren even tried, Jin Guangshan would come and stop him; he wasn't the first Jin student who had obviously never been disciplined as a child and he wouldn't be the last, and Lan Qiren hoped this wasn't an example of what he'd have to deal with Jin Zixuan next year.
Lan Qiren waited until Lan Xichen had left before speaking to the two boys opposite him.
“What have you to say for yourselves this time?”
Nie Huaisang blinked owlishly. “I don't know what you mean, Laoshi Lan. I really don't know why I'm here.” It was the exact same tone of voice the boy used when he 'didn't know' where he'd put his saber when it was time for sword training, or 'didn't know' where he'd put an assignment that was due but he didn't have in hand.
Jin Zixun snorted but made no other sound – he did, however, finally uncross his arms if only to pick up his teacup and take a drink.
“It wasn't bad enough that the two of you were fighting again, but this time it turned physical. There were <i>dozens</i> of witnesses, all of whom were very forward with their accounts. It seems neither of you have made many friends among your classmates, certainly not any that would stand up for either of you.”
Nie Huaisang's 'innocent' look finally slipped, as did Jin Zixun's arrogance. Perhaps if either of them had shown some sign of remorse earlier, this could have been avoided. Unfortunately, a decision had already been made – one neither of them would like. Those tended to be the best and most objective, he'd found.
“It has been decided that having both of you in classes together is a distraction to every student in Cloud Recesses. One of you will be returning home early and will be asked to repeat their classes next year, and the one that remains will be under severe house arrest, their movements restricted to the classroom, their dorm, the training field, and the library – even meals will not be taken with the other students.”
Both boys were now looking down at the table, genuinely upset at the verdict – but they had nobody to blame but themselves.
“Our decision as to who stays and who goes was very easy – we looked at two different considerations, and both led to the same result. Jin Zixun will remain in Cloud Recesses, while Nie Huaisang will return to Qinghe and come back next year. Firstly, as you both know there are age limits to the admission of students, and Jin Zixun is closer to it, and thus would have less possibilities of returning in future years. Secondly,” Lan Qiren gave a pointed look to a fearfully shocked Nie Huaisang, “judging by Nie Huaisang's test results in class, he will very likely have to repeat next year anyway as I can't see a single subject that he will pass in.”
“Ha!” Jin Zixun crowed, a victorious look upon his face as he looked down on the other boy.
“I wouldn't celebrate too quickly,” Lan Qiren interrupted, and he enjoyed how the pleasure drained away from the boy's face. “As I said, your movements will be restricted... but you will <i>also</i> be required to do extra work. That should help fill in your free time before this year's session is over.”
The one good thing that Lan Qiren could say about the two was that neither of them argued with his decision. They knew they were in heavy trouble, both had received many warnings that they refused to heed...
“Now, you'll both have a day or two before both of your Sect Leaders arrive to speak to you so that everyone is fully informed on what has happened and what we have decided to do about it. Have either of you any questions?”
“Da-ge is coming?!” “Jiujiu knows?!” Both boys spoke in near unison, their faces matching pictures of distressed panic.
A good Lan would not feel a certain level of vindication at students having to face the consequences of their actions, so that's certainly <i>not</i> what Lan Qiren experienced. He was simply satisfied that perhaps these two might finally learn their lessons.
“You are both dismissed and will remain in your dorm rooms until your sect leaders arrive to speak with you. Do you understand?”
“Yes, Laoshi,” two voices echoed in dismay.
Lan Qiren watched as the boys rose up from their cushions, made proper bows to their teacher, and then with the experience of many years teaching growing boys and girls, Lan Qiren silently counted to five as the boys left the room. One... Two... Three... Four... Five...
“This is all your fault!”
“My fault? You're the one who said I was uglier than a yao!”
“So it's my fault I told the truth? You're the one who shoved me first.”
“And I'd do it again!”
“Boys!!!” Lan Qiren gave his voice enough power to be heard across the sect grounds if necessary. “If you do not separate this instant, I will have to have you escorted back to your rooms, and given further punishment to be completed before your sect leaders arrive. Is that clear?!”
“Yes, Laoshi.”
Lan Qiren lifted fingers to his forehead to ward off his coming headache. He made the decision to spend his evening after dinner in the ancestral hall, making prayers and offerings to his ancestors. He would plead and beg with them if necessary, all for one very simple wish, for the sake of his sanity.
That next year's studies at Cloud Recesses be much less eventful than this one.
(His prayers would not be answered.)

Ship Meme :) 🍃🌼🌹🎭🌙💟 for NHS/Jin Zixun :D
Thank you thank you thank you! For allowing me to indulge my cracky pairing of choice >.< Of course they're not my *healthiest* pairing, but oh well lol
🍃 What do they do when the other is stressed?
I think it all depends on the source of the stress for both of them.
When NHS is stressed: For 'regular' stressors, omfg Jin Zixun will bring out his worst side if only because he LOVES it when NHS is catty and vicious - so pretty much taking him someplace public where they can make fun of people behind their backs. And it kind of works because it gives NHS the perfect venting he usually wouldn't allow himself. But when the stressor is NMJ or family in general, JZXun knows this is a touchy subject so pure distraction is the best way to go, and the best distraction is sex for these two, and not vanilla sex either - JZXun would be goading NHS to top him, not just because of fun sexy reasons but also because there are so many ways NHS doesn't have full control in his life, *especially* in his relationship with NMJ, and when NHS Doms, it gives him a feeling of control he often lacks.
When JZXun is stressed: For most stressors, NHS will help JZXun get to someplace he can vent in a physical way, like going to a mundane tavern and letting him pick a fight with someone if the stress is really bad, but otherwise nasty talking the people around them can help reduce the stress. But JZXun's 'special' stress is the same subject as NHS, his family - particularly his relationship with his uncle - and that's when NHS will let JZXun spend some time alone in a room with breakable items until he's vented the worst of his anger and the floor is littered with debris, and then pull him into bed where they can fuck each other silly until they can barely remember their own names.
🌼 How do their personalities complement each other?
Partners in Crime is the best way to describe it. They're each others' worst influences and love to goad each other on... but they also benefit each other in unexpected ways. JZXun gives NHS the opportunity to indulge in his catty side, and NHS forces JZXun to be more subtle with his snipes and poisonous looks. And all that being said, they actually have a ton of interests in common re: the Arts.
🌹 Who is the hopeless romantic?
Without a doubt, NHS. JZXun doesn't even really believe in love or if he's even capable of it - growing up watching JGS fuck his way through almost every woman he sees has messed with his views of love, affection, and romance - plus I write him as very closeted and repressed, so very little romantic about that. NHS, however, has been fantasizing of romancing a partner ever since he picked up his first spring book.
🎭 Who is the dramatic one?
*looks at NHS, looks at JZXun*: BOTH. NHS is more about crying or fainting his way into/out of trouble, and JZXun is all about starting a fight in the middle of a fucking banquet because he just can't keep his fucking mouth shut and leave Lan fucking Xichen alone. *ahem*
🌙 How do they comfort each other when they are helpless to do anything about the situation?
The thing with both of these two is that the particular scenario wouldn't occur to them. Let me explain - either one of them would definitely have situations where *they* feel helpless over their own life, but the other one would never feel helpless because the other is suffering. Neither would comfort the other - but BOTH would fuck up whoever was making them feel helpless (if possible). They're both men of action, in their own ways, and both people who are their better selves when they're standing for someone they care about (e.g. NHS getting revenge for his brother, JZXun supporting his cousin). So if the other felt helpless, they would both take action instead of wasting words comforting because they both know words can be hollow and won't really work on either of them.
💟 What do you think makes them perfect for one another?
(Are they? I don't know! I just like them, damn it!) When they're together, they don't have to put on masks for each other. NHS knows JZXun is a royal Asshole, and JZXun knows NHS is a shit cultivator who couldn't care less about physical pursuits. But when they banter and snipe at each other, they're equals both holding their own - and on the off-chance that the other wanted to reveal anything about their relationship, they're pretty sure nobody would believe it. There's kind of a freedom in that.

Warning: what I'm about to type will be cursed :-p
Now thanks to that post by @mxtxfmk I am now imagining if, because the hundred holes curse affected Su Minshan as the caster, if what one feels, the other feels, at least in terms of someone touching Jin Zixun's holey areas. Like even if the holes themselves aren't erogenous, if they're at least painful, then if JZXun's being dommed by someone (*coughs* NHS) who's taking full advantage of it to bring on some sort of blissful pleasure/pain, then what the hell is going through SMS's mind when he's in the middle of a meeting or training disciples and suddenly gets these weird overwheling sensations and they scare him both because it hurts bit also because it's making him horny. And he hates it - and hates it even more when he figures out what's causing it if only because he can't fathom JZXun having that kind of sex life, especially if his is on the boring side at the time ;) And then it awakens something in him, and he eventually has to credit the person he hates most in the world for bringing on this revelation that actually helps him make his life better.
Just weird holey thoughts lol

Twelve Months project fic updates for February
February's theme/inspiration word was: Prey
The One Braincell Trio:
“You still haven't told me what in the Heavens you two were doing up there.” Wei Wuxian opened his mouth to answer, but a loud tweet came from the ground. He looked down in time to see Nie Huaisang pull a small cage from his sleeve and look on it with a victorious grin. “An orange-headed thrush!” Nie Huaisang crowed. “We don't see these in Gusu very often, and just look at him, he's gorgeous!” The bird tweeted and tilted its head. “You two nearly broke your skulls over a bird?!”
Luo "Mianmian" Qingyang/Nie Zonghui:
There was a brief cough before Nie Zonghui straightened even further, then with a dignified gait, he walked over toward the group of women, most of whom took a step back at his approach, likely because of the carcass he carried. Nie Zonghui then stopped before Luo Qingyang and gently lowered the slain deer onto the ground before her. She blinked. “Luo-guniang,” he offered, giving her a proper bow. “I hope you will allow me to honour you with this gift, which I have caught myself today.” She glanced down at the deer – if she were to be honest, she would have preferred it to still be alive. She looked over to the other women, not quite knowing how to respond. Lan Feng was stone-faced and difficult to read. Ouyang Zhiwei looked somewhat horrified. Jiang Yanli, however, had a knowing smile upon her face, and she looked at Luo Qingyang encouragingly. “Any gift this one receives from Nie Zonghui is welcome,” she finally replied, giving a small bow in return.
Nie Huaisang/jin Zixun: NSFW (featuring an homage to *that image* from MDZS Q)
As the stretcher was carried to Koi Tower with a moaning Nie Huaisang lying face-down upon it, the doctor took one look at the dead snake with its jaws firmly fixed on the young man's backside. “It looks like the snake attacked while he was distracted by something. I wonder what it was.” Jin Zixun's crossed arms tightened. “I have absolutely no idea, I just found him this way,” he lied, trying to forget about just how close he'd come to being dismembered by Nie Huaisang's teeth. “I killed it, but the fangs are in deep.” “No, it's good that you didn't try to yank the head off, you might have done more damage that way. We have tools to do the job much more efficiently.” “Fine.” Jin Zixun's chin jerked. “Is there anything else? I'm wasting enough time here as it is.” “We're good,” the doctor replied. “We'll let Chifeng-zun know that you're the one who helped his brother, I'm certain he'll want to give you a reward.” He held back a flinch – the last person he wanted to talk to was Nie Mingjue. “No need, I just wanted to get him off the field so the rest of us could hunt.” The doctor waved him away and he began to turn, though he threw a glance over to where Nie Huaisang was being carried away. Their eyes met. Nie Huaisang winked. Jin Zixun snorted – he was certain the other man would take full advantage of this opportunity to lie back and do nothing. It was his favourite position, after all.

List 5 things that make you happy, then put this in the ask box of the last 10 people that reblogged from you!
Writing something that I feel proud of - doesn't matter if others like it or not (and usually if it's completely self-indulgent, others won't enjoy it as much), but when I look at it and re-read it, the satisfaction I get just makes me so happy (I'm still on the high of writing that SangXun fic yesterday, I just feel so proud of how it turned out)
Listening to a song I love - it doesn't matter if the song is happy or sad, as long as it makes me want to belt out the chorus
Doing something kind for another person when they don't expect it
Hearing about people fighting against bad/oppressive laws and policies, especially when it's in unconventional ways (e.g. kids countering the "don't say gay" shit by showing up to school in pride flags and saying gay all the time whether they're lgbtq2+ or allies)
Looking at pictures of baby animals - makes me feel all warm and fuzzy!
Thank you for the ask!

Nie Huaisang traced a finger along the gag that filled his lover's mouth, checking the fastening behind his head to make certain it wouldn't come loose.

Jin Zixun glared at him with narrowed eyes.

Having trouble deciding what fic to work on so I thought I'd channel NHS and outsource the decision ;) so any votes on which people would like me to finish first?
1. My epic SangCheng conspiracy fic (40k and counting)
2. A chapter if the Fragile Scarlet Tree (my NHS is a Jiang wip)
3 A chapter of The Three of us in the Dark (my NHS/JYL/NZH poly fic)
4. My kinky turned feel-y SangXun fic
5. My NHS tries to get JYL and JZXuan back together and everyone falls for one another fic
6. My post-JGY death SangChengSu
7. My JZXuan plans the Phoenix Mountain Hunt and accidentally changes everything fic
I have many others but these are the ones I might feel up to working on this week.

Hi, is the latest WIP you mentioned by any chance from a deleted kink meme prompt? That would be me 😅Just realized I got my roommate to reup hers but never got around to reupping my own orz Should I reprompt? As in, does it help you get readers or something if it’s on the kink meme? Because I’m subscribing to your work anyway (<3!) If it’s unrelated just disregard this haha. This ask is a mess I am sorry
If you're referring to this I'd put in tags to a previous post:
#a man feels like he's just an accessory in everyone else's stories#so he goes into event planning#and inadvertently becomes an advocate for veterans' mental health support#meanwhile his half-brother falls in love with his nursemaid#his cousin gets so grumpy about not getting laid that our man makes up reasons to use him as a courier#and the party will go so well that our man will earn two favours#he uses one for an excuse to invite his crush and his bestie to hang around his home#the other he uses to free some POWs
...then yes! It's from a Kink meme prompt I've been working on between other fics, and the prompt did disappear at some point - I think I'd actually cut and pasted the text of the prompt when I started, which was a good thing because I might have forgotten some elements otherwise. The prompt was about Jin Zixuan taking over the planning of the Phoenix Mountain Hunt after JGY is forced onto stress leave, endgame XuanLi with sides of NieYao and SangXun :D
As for readers, I'm not sure tbh - some fics I've done for it got lots more than I expected, and some next to nothing, so in the end it probably depends upon the characters involved and the subject matter. As for reprompting, don't worry about it - but as I'm always working on at least a half dozen WIPs, I could always use a cheerleader! Especially since it's your prompt - feel free to DM me and I'll see about putting what I have in a Google Doc for you to read, hopefully it'll be up your alley :D That is of course if this is the right prompt lol.
