In a world where the period drama industry is dominated by Netflix and its modern vision of period dramas, PBS Masterpiece's "Miss Scarlet and the Duke", "Sanditon" and "All Creatures Great and Small" are such a hidden gems, a light amongst darkness... quality period drama content.

Masterpiece Madness, Sanditon Smackdown Edition
Two years ago, we ran a Masterpiece Madness elimination bracket to find out twitter’s favorite drama. This year, we’re back with the Sanditon version, where we’re trying to find out everyone’s favorite moment from the show so far.
Loathe as we are to send you over to the social media site everyone’s actively fleeing at present, we still don’t have polls (😭) so if you want to vote in our bracket, here’s where to do that:

The Bingley Family Album: Volume XV
We're catching up with another member of the Bingley clan today - Benjamin, over in Sanditon, and his fiancé Walter.
Tumblr media
Top of the list after getting his own place, was to adopt a dog from the animal shelter. Enter Moody! He reminds Benjamin a lot of his childhood pal Bella.
~ Libra
~ Doofus / Lazy / Friendly / Pigpen
Tumblr media
He proves to be great company while Benjamin is alone at home during the day.
Tumblr media
And the pair soon form a close bond. (He also sports some rather splendid facial hair, just like his master.)
Tumblr media
He quickly becomes a favourite with Dog Person Walter too. His family never had any pets while he was growing up, but he's thoroughly enjoying having Moody around now.
Tumblr media
Benjamin was also keen to set up his own dedicated art studio at home, to pursue his dream of perfecting a masterpiece.
Tumblr media
He finds inspiration everywhere he looks.
Tumblr media
Well, I guess his ambition to make his mark on the art world has to start somewhere!
Tumblr media
Robert doesn't know about art, but he knows what he likes, and that includes his ex's oeuvre.
Tumblr media
Walter meanwhile is still risking life and limb on a daily basis as an Adventurer. He's certainly well equipped for tackling the considerable risk posed by taking a shower.
Tumblr media
Also on the agenda is hosting a house-warming party. Unfortunately, it turns into an occasion for Benjamin's past conquests to come back to haunt him - including his flings with Townie Chandler Platz (undocumented), Julia,...
Tumblr media
...Robert and Anna.
Tumblr media
While Walter was happy to be just one of many before their engagement, he now expects a little more commitment from Benjamin.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that they've reached a firm understanding as to the footing of their relationship, everything is soon smoothed over between them.
Tumblr media
And - much to the surprise of both - it's hello, impending parenthood! But will Walter stay the course this time, or will he cut and run, just as he did in the past with Cassandra? (I've given up trying to rationalise same-sex pregnancy in my game - Sims aren't humans, they don't have the same biology as us, so it just happens, because I want it to! 😁)

So they have announced the new replacement for William (Masterpiece/PBS; Alibi/UKTV) and I cannot believe they had the gall to actually use the word "replace":
Durant Pritchard plays Alexander Blake, a handsome former soldier and respected detective inspector who joins the force at Scotland Yard to replace William “The Duke” Wellington who has gone to America.
Yeah he was going TEMPORARILY. I guess "for now" means "forever" and you want to replace him with some lookalike.
They seem to think that this show is Sanditon and that can just add in a man named Alexander and we’d all be happy (small comfort: Mary on DA didn’t end up with Charles Blake lol).
I had more to say and no time to say it in, so except a rant later tonight, but suffice it to say I won't be watching this (not that I was going after Feb 29th anyway).

One of classic literature’s greatest mysteries is about to come to life.
Keeley Hawes (Bodyguard) and Rose Leslie (Game of Thrones) will star in Miss Austen, a new drama coming soon to Masterpiece on PBS. Hawes plays Cassandra, the sister of literary great Jane Austen, who infamously burned Jane’s letters after her death. But Miss Austen reimagines that tale as “a fascinating, witty and heartbreaking story of sisterly love,” per the official description.
Leslie plays Cassandra’s friend Isabella, who is about to lose her home after her father’s death. Cassandra wants to help Isabella, but she also wants to find a stash of her late sister Jane’s private letters that could ruin Jane’s reputation if they came out. The letters take Cassandra on a trip down memory lane, with flashbacks to her and Jane together as kids: “Finding a way to guide Isabella towards true happiness, Cassandra is finally able to understand and celebrate the sacrifices she chose to make for her brilliant sister, Jane.”
Joining Hawes and Leslie in the cast are Jessica Hynes (Years and Years), Phyllis Logan (Downton Abbey), Kevin McNally (The Crown) and Max Irons (Condor). Andrea Gibb (Call the Midwife, Sanditon) pens the adaptation of Gill Hornby’s bestselling novel, with Aisling Walsh (Elizabeth Is Missing) serving as director.
